Update 1.1.8 Released

Andromeda starmap white square fixed. Reflection Quality dropdown added in settings with 6 settings from "Off" to "Very High" (2048x2048). Update 1.1.7 Released

This update is mainly to fix bugs from the engine upgrade. Some of these might already have been listed in the "Quick fix" patch that was only released on Steam. Crashing caused by engine upgrade fixed. (hopefully) Sleazy Steve's shop not showing prices fixed. Some objects rendering blue fixed. Baked shadows on ship interior being messed up fixed. Missiles and other misc. shaders improved. Stellar Rep EXP fixed. Fixed the resource trackers on the bottom to display how much was earned offline. Reflections on ships adjusted. Planet Destruction and Creation lowered to 5 minutes in starter. Null reference exception when attempting to increase the level of a leader without a planet selected fixed. Performance improved significantly by disabling shadows that somehow got enabled from the engine update in the last build. It looks the same with and without shadows since you never really see shadows cast on other objects. Planet creation and destruction timer in the starter system changed to 5 minutes. Bug where starter system planets didn't get specialty slots fixed. Bug where destroying a planet while viewing it wouldn't update that the planet was removed till you left the solar system and came back fixed. Bug where planets mid creation could have warnings like "No Storage" fixed.

Update 1.1.6 Released - Engine Update

This Update mostly updates the game engine to the latest version and hopefully fixes all the stuff that broke during the update. The goal with the engine update was to fix UI scrolling offscreen on some devices, but I'm sure it includes lots of other improvements on the engine side. Other changes: Advanced Detectors changed from finding Ore on all slots on a planet to: Slots with Mines refill Ore. Slots with Quarries refill Quartz. Slots with Gem Harvesters refill Gems. Slots with Gas Harvesters refill Gas. Mining ship build cost changed to not require Super Alloy. Bazaar text typos fixed.

Season 2 started! Update 1.1.5 Released.

I'm making the game seasonal and doing a server reset for season 2 since the player count is pretty low and tons of people are requesting a reset. The seasons will be really long, like a year or more since it's the type of game it is. I'm going to add stuff that is carried over from one season to another such as titles to lessen the feeling of "What's the point of doing anything if it's all going to be lost", and the starter system will be more customizable and kept between seasons. Existing alliances will also be kept. Time Crystals purchased will also be re-added. I'm not just doing a server reset though, a lot of work has been put into the update that will come with it. The reset will come with the 1.1.5 update which adds: Passive credit income added back. Stellar Rep leveling reworked to cost Credits since any positive income will become Credits now. (So Honorariums removed) Reworked worker/tourist growth to not use an invisible cap and show "Max Tourists" gained from the Standard of Living bonus on the Resort itself. Easier ship leveling. Anti-bot screen fixed so logging out can't bypass it. Planets creatable and destroyable in starter system up to 11 planets. (which will be carried over from one season to another.) Citadel nerfed a little bit. The "Alien Homeworld" raid made easier. Ease of use features like the bazaar screen having arrows to scroll between resource types. Several other UIs given a bit of love. Hopefully it revitalizes the game. It's definitely at it's best when the server is fresh. (edited)

Update 1.1.4 Released!

Changelog: Ship weapon and module slot counts fixed on production screen. Worker counts on the corp stats rounded to 2 digits instead of 4. Alien ships not staying unlocked fixed. Bug fixed where Gas Extractor addon 3 doesn't show the cost. Sound effect added for when lightning beam is activated. Nuke and ship explosions sounds swapped so nukes have the most powerful explosion sound. Bug fixed where the close screen sound tried to play after the guide was closed and the sound source was disabled. Bug where tab to open star and plant count on the starmap stays enabled after opening the slide-out fixed. Inconsistencies with habitat and resort max population numbers being 4.5m instead of 45m on building stats screen fixed. Guide updated to fix some of the vestigial instructions that are no longer good advice, like building a greenhouse early. I made a new page on the "Guides" screen that has buttons to open the click by click tutorials that play when you first start the game, and I merged some guides into each other to free up space. Click by click Tutorial added to help new people get started. Orbital slot specialties added. More music added. Automated weekly server maint added. Block list not masking properly fixed. Fleet icon not disabling when a new fleet is selected fixed. Bug where the first mission entry on the campaign screen wasn't always enabled and extra padding at the top of the missions screen fixed.

1.1.3 Released!

Chapter 2 of the campaign and the second raid added. Most alien ships buildable. Some new alien ships added to fill out the alien ship roster. NPC fleet generation made a little smarter by making it not add Energy Cores on ships that don't have any use for energy. I got tired of how you couldn't double click an asteroid to access the "return to starter planet" and other navigation arrows, so I made double clicking asteroids open the planet stats screen just like a normal planet. Bug fixed where Military Budget still showed that it was costing even when the ship was mothballed fixed. EMP ship lightning weapon damage boost raised from 10% to 20%, and a bug where Lightning Beam wasn't being boosted fixed. Small visual improvement: Engines hand tweaked for each individual ship to look as good as possible and clip with the ship body less. Randomization added to make the engine effects look more natural and less perfect. Looks better with no performance loss. Memory improvements to reduce crashing on low RAM devices. Error with terraforming trying to set the atmosphere color with atmospheres disabled in settings fixed. Max Energy added to ship stats screen. Citadel Damage from x8 to x10. Lots of smaller bugfixes I never wrote down.

Update 1.1.2 Released!

Update 1.1.2 Released on 9/8/21: Reflections added to ships and planets. Lighting overhauled to be much darker and more realistic. Text clickable on top bar and planet stats screen with either help boxes or convenience actions. I plan on making text on more screens clickable in future updates. Ship Deck reflections being cleared when opening and closing the logs screen and other screens fixed. Planet cache system reworked. Dead land units showing up in inventory fixed. AI not using focus fire on the correct ships fixed. Another layer of AI Focus fire decision making added, prioritizing ships that are using repair or shield beam rather than just lowest HP. Comet gas effect improved. Max zoom distances increased so you can zoom in way closer than you would ever want to. Quartz and Rhodium asteroids added. Click the Star Name on the top bar or in the planet stats screen to jump straight to the star on the starmap. PvP Shield saying 1 hour cooldown but having an 11 hour cooldown fixed. I'm changing it to 23 hours with a 1 hour cooldown instead of 24 so it could be re-upped at the same time the next day, which makes more sense to me. Ads fixed. (Android Only) "Go to" button on the fleet screen fixed to go to the star the fleet is at instead of saying it's not orbiting a planet. Fleet commanders being assigned to multiple fleets fixed. "Recruit Leader" button changed into just "Leaders" and it now opens a leader inventory similar to the land unit inventory where you can see how many of each type there is and select what type you're viewing on the left. The recruit leader option is now at the bottom of that screen. Alien raid final planet being pitch black fixed. Alien raid planets orbits broken up a bit to make the systems look better. Behind the scenes audio bug fixed. Unity updated to 2021.1.20.

1.1.1 Hotfix

This update will be shorter to fix the notifications not popping up bug. I'm going to try to get as many other fixes in as possible. Notifications not popping up fixed. Aqua and Relgar moon names being swapped fixed. Bug where music/combat volume doesn't stay where you put it unless you quit the application after setting it fixed. Planets owned screen opening speed being much slower after the first time you open it fixed. FPS improved significantly on the Planets Owned Screen and other screens with scrolling. Loading message when opening the starmap added to make it look less like it froze up while it's loading the starmap. Starting module category being set to 0 and freaking it out if you tried to scroll without selecting a category first fixed.

Update 1.1.1 Released!

Update 1.1.1 Changes: Battle Management screen added, along with the number of active, incoming and incoming alliance battles being shown on the main screen under the "Battles" button. Toggle to automatically view a defense battle or not added on Battle Management screen. I've made the following changes to make HP/Armor/Shield regeneration over time play a greater role and make it feel more like a fleshed out mechanic: HP Regeneration timer tick rate changed from 30 seconds to every 5 seconds. Base Regen amounts were adjusted to be slower per tick than before since it ticks 6 times faster, but slightly faster overall. Shield and Armor modules updated to also make shields/armor regenerate a bit faster per tier or quality improvement. Spaceport still makes Shields/Armor/Hull regenerate faster for every Tier. Too much information version - For people that want the actual numbers, here are the numbers I've come to after testing and setting the values to what feels right: Every 5 seconds - Base Shield regen: .5% (of max Shields) Base Armor regen: .25% (of max Armor) Base Hull regen: .25% (of max Hull) Shield Generator regen per Tier and Quality improvement: .05% Armor Plating repair per Tier and Quality improvement: .05% Spaceport regen per Tier: .2% Selected fleet not updating when HP changes fixed. Ship HP/Armor/Shields not ticking up slowly when owner is logged out fixed. The first mission where you're supposed to orbit the Manthra type planet in the starter system counting when you orbit any planet fixed. I finally got it to split the work of loading the universe into 8 parallel threads without turning into error soup, which makes the server boot up twice as fast. Andromeda building tier limit removed. Reworking FTLDs + PvP shield a bit: I think the best solution that fixes the issue of people being able to block off entire systems with alts using FTLD + PvP Shield is to have PvP Shield fully protect against attacks and piracy, but disable FTLD while PvP Shield is active. Fleet selected not always updating when something changes (such as a ship being repaired and combat power rising) fixed. Bug where the amount of Stimulants used went up every second fixed. (Building current worker count wasn't being cleared between ticks) Small server and client performance improvement by caching wait timers instead of creating new ones every time. Bug where land units weren't properly removed from the planet when deleted via the land unit inventory fixed. Bug fixed where viewing the encounter screen with orbital defenses alone would create a placeholder fleet for the orbital defenses and not remove it, leaving a bugged blank named fleet in orbit above the planet. Unowned planets with orbital defenses now allow someone to enter orbit without destroying the orbitals. 10-15 minute delay between NPCs respawning on unowned planets, and attacking the same owned planet. I noticed sometimes after you destroy an NPC fleet another one takes it's place before you have a chance to do anything, so this is to address that. Add to fleet button not masking properly fixed. Land Units disappearing after a successful attack fixed. Land invasion effect being too far from the planet fixed. Selecting your own fleet with the magnifying glass in the middle not setting it as your currently viewed fleet (And saying unable to add ships when you try) fixed. Selected fleet CP on top bar not updating when a module is equipped/unequipped fixed. Bug fixed where the first campaign mission wasn't checked off on the campaign screen until some time after the first raid was started. "Server Booting Up!" and "Server Maintenance!" message for when the server isbooting up or shutting down added to the top of the login screen that disappears when the server is done booting up added for convenience. Unity updated to 2021.1.16f1 (latest stable release). Universal Render Pipeline updated to 11.0.0. Unable to unload troops onto your own planets with PvP Shield fixed.

[ 2021-08-24 04:10:27 CET ] [ Original post ]

Update 1.1.0 Released!

  • New raid added that serves as chapter 1 of the campaign. I'll be adding more raids that continue the story in future updates. I've already written the story.
  • Bug fixed where the message: "The planet we are trying to attack already has a battle happening around it!" was being sent to the planet owner instead of the fleet owner.
  • Computer chip research nanotube cost being inaccurate clientside fixed.
  • PvP Shield added. New players got 7 days of PvP shield, and it can be re-upped for 1 TC for 24 hours for players that have 50 planets or less. PvP Shield ends early if the shielded player attacks another player.
  • Planet defense notifications setting added to settings screen by request. This changes the notifications when a player begins an attack on your planet or your fleet, cancels an attack, and when a battle ends.
  • Bug where default terraforming values weren't being loaded for raid planets so they were just black fixed.
  • Selected fleet packet and planet stats packet broken up into 2 separate packets so that the selected fleet is shown when logging in viewing a star, and just because it's a cleaner way of handling it.
  • Bug fixed where you could change AI ability priorities for fleets you don't own.
  • NPC fleets sometimes spawning with multiple prism gels even though one is ever necessary per ship fixed.

Update 1.0.8 Released!

Update 1.0.8 improves the UI by adding a back button to return to the previous screen, and adds the core functionality of being able to observe other people's battles. It also contains tons of other polish and bugfixes. Changelog - Improvements: Ability to observe other people's battles added. (Located in the top right corner when viewing a planet with a battle going.) To make it easier to see when a planet has a battle active around it, a planet with a battle going on in orbit will have 2 3D ship models firing at eachother in orbit. Either model can be clicked to view the stats of the attacking or defending fleet. Back button added to go to the previous screen. Close buttons moved to the top right corner on all screens where it wasn't already to keep it consistent. Party screen improvements and party joined and left messages added for the person joining/leaving and the rest of the party. Spaceport description updated to say how repair in orbit works. Balance Changes: Tier limit raised from 2 to 3 for Andromeda. FTLD overclocking for Andromeda disabled to keep the starmap open for new players to move around in. Bugfixes: "Go To" button on the land unit inventory not working if the unit was on a ship fixed. "Location" for land units in inventory fixed to show if they are on a ship, and what fleet the ship is in. Bug fixed where ships in orbit around Sol planets that have timers when you login don't tick. Deadlock server freezes fixed. Another pass over all UI screens with various resolutions fixing things to scale properly done. Stellar rep hub bonus fixed to work on starter and sol. Raid not being fully ended when a party is disbanded fixed. Alliance screen not scrolling far enough to view a ton of members fixed. Ships still playing the warp in effect when viewing a battle that has already started fixed. Bug where colonizing a planet wouldn't update the building count from any buildings on the planet fixed. Modules per type overflowing past 255 fixed. Bug fixed where login would hang.

Update 1.0.7

Improvements: Option to display Buildings on the Planets Owned screen added. This should make managing multiple planets significantly easier. Chat screen changed to be color coded by what channel you're on to make it harder to use wrong chat. Chat color can now also be set. Solar system and starmap mouse drag reversed because it felt backwards. Research Points and Time Crystals added to resource trackers. Bugfixes: Bug fixed where asteroids would sometimes randomly be owned. Bug fixed where stellar reps were assigned to more than one system at once. Bug fixed where Citadel HP would overflow past 65535 back to 0. Bug fixed where "Login Failed" messages weren't being sent correctly because the client was disconnected before the main thread got around to sending the message. Bug fixed where Rayeon planet type said it could have Uranium and Aluminum specialties when it couldn't. Pirate King message and Damage numbers going super fast on unlimited FPS fixed. Planets spinning super slow on unlimited FPS fixed. Mothball status not updating when you click the mothball button on the ship stats screen fixed. Server "receive message limit" lowered to hopefully avoid the message overflow error that caused the server's networking to stop working once. Performance improvements: Nice little performance boost gained by hacking the renderer and disabling post processing volumes from calculating when post processing is disabled. Unity updated to 2020.2.7f1 (Latest stable build)

Mini Update - Improved Chat Channel Colors

Chat UI now changes to the color of the chat channel you currently have selected to make it harder to accidentally talk in the wrong chat. Colors can now be set for each chat channel. So if you don't like galaxy chat being yellow you can set it to whatever you want.

Andromeda isn't like most other games, it has been slowly developed by one person for years now, and the direction it has taken has been constantly shaped by feedback and ideas from users to make it what it is today.
It is very indie, and it is a constant work in progress.

It's released on Steam primarily to allow people that play on their phones to play on PC, and not necessarily trying to compete with the Steam library.

It's not super fast paced. You can't really pick it up for an hour and get much out of it. It's intended to be a digital universe in your pocket with its own virtual economy and a community of people that will probably be around for awhile.

To be clear though, it's not an idle clicker game, it does take thought and strategy to succeed.

It is heavily economy oriented, with an emphasis on colonizing entire solar systems full of planets and building structures on them to generate resources over time, making it a bit of a mix of a 4X space game (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate), Universe Simulator, and a Tycoon game.

Fleet battles are 1v1, so while you can't be in the same fight with a friend, you can help defend your friend's territory from attacks by leaving your fleet in orbit over their planet.

The universe is persistent, so anything gained is kept, allowing you to build up a large interstellar empire over time.

Gameplay -

* Play as an interstellar Corporation that warps to the safety of the Andromeda Galaxy to escape an alien invasion of Earth and The Milky Way.

* Build up an economy by constructing and upgrading habitats for workers, solar arrays for power, resorts for tourists, mines and refineries for metals, and much more.

* Hire a Stellar Representative that levels up and gains perk points that can be used to boost the efficiency all the planets in a solar system.

* Use the resources you've harvested from your planets to build ships and outfit them with weapons and support modules.

* Create colony ships to expand your Corporation to even more planets and moons.

* Terraform your planets to make them more habitable for your Workers and Tourists by altering the planet's Temperature, Water Level and Pollution.

* Form fleets of up to 12 ships and retake Earth, Mars and the rest of Sol from the aliens known as "Strith", or fight against other players and take their planets.

* Not into PvP? The game is fully playable without going into the open PvP areas, although you'd run out of content much faster.

* Trade with other players for credits, resources, ships, weapons and support modules, or use the Bazaar to leave orders to buy or sell resources while your offline.

* Form alliances with other players and work together.

Fleet Battles -

Leave a fleet in orbit over a planet to protect it from other players while you're away.
Ships automatically fire at targets with basic weapons like gattling guns and lasers.
Players have control over unique abilities such as Nuke, EMP, Prism Gel, Draw Fire, Focus Fire, Repair Beam and Shield Beam making fleet composition and strategy important.
Hire a Fleet Commander that levels up from fleet battles and gains points that can unlock perks that boost all the ships in their fleet.

Land Battles -
Build defenses on the surface of your planets as a second layer of defense against other players that takes a lot longer to destroy than a fleet.
Fill up troop transport ships and enter orbit of another player's planet to land your troops and invade it.

Price, Ads and Micro-transactions -

* Only cosmetic or convenience perks for Micro-Transactions.
* Optional ads only.
* Uses the least invasive micro transaction system I can think of.
Micro-transactions can buy one thing: Time Crystals.
Time Crystals can be used to skip building and repair timers, painting ships, buying cosmetic holograms, or re-rolling resources on a planet slot. Time crystals can also be occasionally obtained as in-game loot, or from a rewarded video ad.
Build Timers are never crazy long forcing you to buy time crystals either, up to 1 hour for the best ships.

While the game can be played with a mouse and keyboard, it is designed to be played on a touchscreen device such as a mobile phone or tablet, and M&K is a bit clunky.
If the demand for the PC Steam version is high enough to warrant adding a UI redesigned around M&K, I may do that at some point. But no promises.

Available on Google Play for Android.
iOS version coming soon. (Hopefully)
