Freewheeling: Bossy Wheel

[WARNING: if you can, rather use a desktop version than the navigator one, as the game may run a little less smoothly, and the mouse zooming controls seem not to work (but this is less serious as the keyboard ones do).]

Make the hamster roll the fire demon wheel towards the water pool!

The upper the hamster is, the faster the wheel, but the more dangerous, as he comes closer to the fireballs. You also have to take care of the slopes. And ice is a double-edged sword!

Made with Love2D.

Controls
  • Left / Right: move the wheel
  • Up / Down: change storeys
  • Esc: quit
  • Mouse wheel down / Left Control: zoom out
  • Mouse wheel up / Space: zoom in
  • Mouse wheel press / Left Shift: default zoom
  • P: pause
  • Return: try again
  • Tab: generate a new level (also resets the maximum reached distance)
Known Bugs
  1. It looks like that on some rare occasions, the hamster will not properly change storeys (despite the sound and visual effect).
  2. Semi-bug: the hole detection for the innermost storey may be just a tiny bit not exact, as the expected formula did not work and I ended up putting an empirical corrective factor. Hopefully, this is not really perceivable.
  3. The navigator version seems to lack mouse controls, at least on my Firefox. This may be caused by love.js or by Web-related focus issues rather than the game itself. (There was also no music, but I suddenly remembered that you have to switch the music from stream to static to make it work, and here you go! :))

Creation context

Made for Mini Jam 113 with theme ‘Final Boss’ and limitation ‘Stuck In A Loop’. (Running time: from August 19th 2022 at 6:00 AM to August 22nd 2022 at 6:00 AM.)

One very little note: I wavered with Hotrock (also by the Kevin) for the music, which is both ‘bossy’ and funny at the same time, but I went for the more serious and dramatic one seeing the game jam’s theme. You can put it on for yourself while playing the game if you want to see what it would have looked like. ;)
