This game was made for Global Game Jam 2023 (February 3rd - 5th). The theme of the jam was "roots".

HOW TO PLAY
Move with WASD or the left controller stick.

Aim with the mouse or the right controller stick. Your shots auto-fire.

Burrow/unburrow with left click or the gamepad's bottom face button. While burrowed, your scream attack will charge up. The yellow circle shows its area of effect.

Open the shop with the spacebar or the gamepad's top face button.

Defeated enemies drop gems, which can be used to buy upgrades from the shop.

Beware: enemies get stronger over time!

STORY
You've had a quiet life underground for centuries, minding your own business. But one day, you are rudely awakened as your home shakes violently and thunderous noises come from above!

Cautiously climbing to the surface, you peer outside and see that some of those strange "humans" have tilled the land and built a fence around the top of your home. But it gets worse; as you survey the damage, you see that you have other uninvited guests: POTATOES, who shoot orbs of stored sunlight; BEETS, who show off their strength by hurling boulders; and CARROTS, who recklessly launch themselves like missiles.

But you are not defenseless. After all, you are a mandragora (sometimes called "mandrake") and you are famously dangerous when uprooted. Your paralyzing scream is as potent as ever, and today you will show these interlopers their folly!
