Super Metroidvandia Month 20. BackstoryDecades ago, a tower erupted from the lush plains of a previously untravelled field. As the years went on, the tower remained undiscovered, but the vegetation slowly started to die around it. Creating a desert, it was eventually found when the trees and obstacles surrounding it had disappeared. People ventured into the tower, much to their own peril as they did not understand just how deadly it was. With monsters completely foreign to the humans and its meaning completely lost to them, they started camping near it, yearning for its secrets. Decades have passed since then, and the small camp has evolved into a tremendous city filled with greed, corruption, and promise. Eventually, people were able to journey deeper into the tower and they discovered what they would call “Artifacts”. These artifacts gave its users incredible power, from strength to flight, telekinesis to transformation. There was no certainty or explanation for their power, only that it came at a cost. To use the artifacts, one had to give up their life force. Anyone who uses an artifact is cursed to die before the age of 30, and those older than that, cannot use them. Now, the tower is known across the land, as well as its city and the warnings that come with it. Should you be ready to sacrifice everything for your dream, then the city will welcome you, but it rescinds that welcome should you disrespect it, or the tower.
