Martian Farming Simutater 2119 is a small game made for GMTK Game Jam 2019, which had the theme "only one".

The theme is implemented by giving the player only one single potato at the start of the game. After toiling the fields, the player might discover how to get new varieties of taters by following hints found in the environment... Again starting with a single plant. Your friendly Martian neighbors also seem to have mysteriously disappeared, making you the only farmer that is still trying to tame the red soil.

Story Setting

Samuel Spuds was just your average Martian potato farmer until he started having drug infused hallucinations that urged him to free his people from slavery breed the very best radioactive potato in his Martian backyard. All the while being helped by hints left by the mysterious entity living in the toilet cave. Outlawed by at least five different galactic imperial senates, it was time for this vegetable to take his rightful place among the stars!

Join Samuel on his daily adventures on our red brother planet and get those taters out there for the world to see!

Controls

Samuel Spuds

  • MOVEMENT: ARROW KEYS
  • SPRINT: SHIFT
  • GROW THOSE TATERS: D
  • INTERACT: E, ENTER or SPACE-BAR

Tips

This was (of course) meant to be in-game. It will pay off to grow longer until the plants are fully matured to harvest them. You probably learned something about potatoes today!
