My Current Recommendation

Livestreamer Twitch GUI - Very polished, allows you to pick your means of chat and video player. I currently use livestreamer and chatty, and it integrates well with those.

Alternate Methods

Gnome Twitch - Very polished, but in development.
Chatty - Feature Rich, Java based.
twitch-curses - CLI based.
Youtube-dl - Haven't done this, but I've been told you can watch Twitch this way.

Twitch Video

livestreamer will allow you to watch a Twitch stream in your favorite media player, such as mpv, vlc, etc.

Twitch Chat

You can use any IRC(Internet Relay Chat) client to connect to Twitch's chat. A few examples(install them via your package manager):
Irssi
Weechat
Hexchat
But there are MANY more.

Configure IRC Client

Twitch IRC Configure Page
This page will get you set up, but I have found that the actual address should be irc.chat.twitch.tv. Hopefully Twitch will update their page in the future.
