BloodGate servers will be closing down on 31st of August 2017

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the shutdown of BloodGate at the end of this month. We can no longer afford to keep the servers running with such a small player base.

We are a very small team who put a great deal of effort into developing the game, but we never really recouped our costs as the sales of the game were few and far between, despite getting generally good reviews.

We would like to thank all of you who have played our game over the past year or so - we hope you enjoyed it.

All the best,

The BloodGate Team

Balancing Recap

We've made several balancing updates to the game over the last month or so (which we didn't make an announcement for but instead had an in-game message). We're acutely aware that some players are still not managing to get good enough gear and are instead trying to grind their way up (which ruins the game experience for them).

Great weapons can be forged from very mediocre ones using the salvage/crafting part of the game. Offense is the best defense, so focus on improving your weapon first. Don't just upgrade one spell line as you will run out of crafting materials and not have enough for other items. Don't go back and grind dungeons to get your level up as you will end up with low-level gear that doesn't match you or your enemy's level (stick to the dungeons close to where you are up to - good items will drop from them).

To help those who don't seem to get good item drops (and those who like the gambling buzz of spinning to win), we've dramatically dropped the price of the standard chest (from 1500 to 500 gold) while significantly increasing the gold drop rate in dungeons (which should help players keep upgrading their gear). We've also made the rare chests able to be opened with gold (though we still recommending the salvage/upgrade path rather than relying too much on luck).

Here's a recap on the last few balancing tweaks:

3 July 2016

We've just tweaked the loot drop to be a bit more generous, as well as giving more Gold per fight. We hope you use this to craft better items, so you don't have to go back and grind!

17 August 2016

Just a quick balancing tweak to increase the target completion time for the Tutorial dungeon and to remove some of the dodge spells used by enemies (in PvE).

26 August 2016

We've increased the dungeon gold drop, and made the standard Chest cheaper (and drop better loot). The rare chests can now be opened with Gold.

Thank you for playing our game. It was never meant to be a game with massive "end game" content - it's about the skill challenge of beating that next opponent and improving your character's look and capability along the way.... and getting fame and rewards for being in the top PvP leagues. That said you should get 80+ hours out of the game - all for a very humble price.

Balancing Update - 23 June 2016

We just released a balancing update to the game with the following changes:

Cheaper Crafting
Lowered the Gold cost for crafting equipment by 50%. Spell/skill crafting costs remain the same as before. This is to enable and encourage players to improve their items more often.

Ditched the Dodge
Reduced or eliminated the Dodge (and Spell Dodge) ability of all enemies. We found that especially on enemies with high dodge stats, it ruined the tactical elements of gameplay. PvP still has dodge enabled though.

Royal Rewards
Improved League Rewards (additional items and keys). Just because.

Kibosh the King-Hit
Reduced the "strong melee" skill multiplier of major bosses. This is to reduce the chance of being killed by 1 or 2 hits if your equipment is a little lacking.

Lots of Lootz
Improved uncommon item drop rates to help players to get better level-appropriate equipment.

Ground the Grind
Increased XP rewarded for lower level dungeons to help players level up faster if they find they are having to grind (or course we hope that the other changes will mitigate this somewhat).

We'll be evaluating these changes (with your help and feedback) over the next week to see if they are making enough of a difference. Cheers!
