Minor update 8/18

  • Fixes/improvements to reduce enemies teleporting directly on top of players
  • Fix for enemies sometimes making the return trip to the bar between encounters

January Update Is Here!

The latest round of new content, improvements, and bug fixes is now available. Thank you to the community members who offered feedback suggestions, many of which have made it into this update. Additionally we're super grateful to all those who submitted bug reports on our official discord to help us track down and resolve pesky issues.

Checkpoints!


Checkpoint support for solo runs is finally here! Every return trip to the safe house creates a checkpoint which you can then use to resume at a later point. (community request)
Please let us know if you encounter any issues or inconsistencies when resuming checkpoints!

Looting/Kiosk improvements



Instead of only showing whichever one you're focused on, both options in a duo loot chest are now visible at the same time. This makes it much easier to decide which to pick, especially in the heat of battle. (community request)
Items in the upgrade and weapon kiosks can now be locked. This allows you to save an option for your return trip if you don't have enough cash on hand to purchase it immediately. Note that locked items prevent another item from being offered in the shop so you're trading off the chance of a rare RNG drop if you're locking items. (community request)

New weapons!


Six new weapons have been added across multiple tiers for you to find or purchase in the weapon kiosk. One of the first weapons is mid-range rifle called the Dart Rifle which applies a small damage-over-time effect in addition to the normal hit damage. Another weapon that is fantastic for crowd control is the Sonic Grenade which will stun enemies in the detonation radius - very useful for those hordes of scraps or sticky exploders. Also be on the look out for the Defender, Easy Shot Rifle, Volunteer and Commando SMG.

AI improvements and tweaks


AI have figured out how to open unlocked doors. Smarter every day! Improvements to how AI handle traversing down ledges - they should get hung-up far less often and make it down quicker on average. New changes with how different AI are populated through the levels to start adding more diversity in the encounters. Still very much a work in progress, expect to see more improvements here. Troopers with helmets now uniformly take less damage while the helmet is attached, but then take normal headshot damage afterwards. Knocking off a helmet will also provide a temporary armor break. Improved pathing updates for several AI but specifically for exploders so that they are more efficient in tracking their targets. Implemented a new method for tracking Windup's fight progression to resolve an issue with the teleporter sometimes not activating after picking up the juice tank. Fixed an issue with AI getting stuck to the player when melee attacking but getting knocked back (i.e. Nomad's bonk weapon will reliably knock back troopers and scraps).

Other improvements & bugfixes


New ghost dash and jump powers have been introduced into the basic pool. Ghost powers focus on enhanced mobility options, with ghost dash allowing you to pass through thin barriers and doors instantly for example. More ghost powers to come with future updates! Loot barrels now pop right away instead of having an awkward delay. Sometimes it's the small things. Shareable icons are hidden in various HUD elements if there's nobody to share with. Juice tanks now properly insert into the processor when playing in solo. Reduce min time for startup movies to play so that players can load into the game faster if loading completes before movies end by clicking to bypass them. Several improvements have been made to the base double jump along with a new animation plugged in. A new perk "Bloody Mess" is available for purchase in the kiosk. It significantly bumps up the blood and gibs, plus gives a small global damage boost. Added an option to suppress the Overdrive activation music has been added. (community request) Optimizations to Powerstation and Rubble to improve performance along with AI navigation. Moved the dead super objective in Downtown Zone B to the rooftops for a more balanced experience.

Experimental Build Notes (Updated 12/27)

The test branch has been updated with new changes planned for the next update, and is available via the "client_ptr" beta branch in Steam. As always please share any and all feedback on our official discord in #sv-feedback (sv-feedback) or in the forums. Note: This build is a development build which has additional debug information to help us track down any issues / crashes and the like. Performance will be degraded compared to the official public build. The progress made with the test branch will not carry over to the public build.

December Update Is Here!

New Map Variants


We've created night-time Downtown and day-time Powerstation variants that will show up in the unlockable timelines.

Flying AI Improvements


We've made a slew of improvements to all flying AI to ensure they properly engage the players even if beyond their ideal combat range. They're also much better at avoiding staying too close (or especially over top of the player), while also staying closer to the eye level of the player. This should make them more challenging and engaging to battle for the short term while we continue to tinker on more improvements.

Backbone Tweaks


Backbone's damage immunity has been replaced with damage resistance so he can be minimally hurt with weapons/powers. Destroying the pustules is still the most effective method of taking him down quickly however! Additionally, Backbone's reinforcements are smarter about joining the battle wherever Backbone is rather than the original spawn zone.

Quality of Life Improvements


Dash can now be activated right before landing from a jump or fall, which will allow players to cancel out any potential fall damage if timed correctly. Also, small double jump has been added for all players before getting a jump power, which should make it easier to clear low cover and activate the melee groundpound powers. Finally, new option has been added (found under gameplay options) to disable the auto-cover system if desired.

Stability / Bugfixes


Multiple AI have additional logic and fallbacks to ensure that they do not become permanently stuck outside of valid playspace (including Windup). This should address any issues with Jarhead mission (and others) where sometimes all counted AI are not reliably engaging the players. Addressed a potential crash related to AI pathing as navigation geometry was being added/removed mid-session.

  • Addressed a potential crash related to AI pathing as navigatable geometry was being added/removed mid-session.
  • Improvements to all flying AI movement selection to ensure they properly engage the players even if beyond their ideal combat range, and avoid picking any points too close (or especially over top of the player). They are also more likely to stay closer within the eye level of the player instead of occassionally picking high points in the sky. (note: All flying AI is long overdue for an over-haul, and will be something to tackle in future updates.)
  • Fixed exploders not handling repeated movement failures correctly. They will now detect when unable to reach the player and will trigger the fallbacks to "unstick" themselves.
  • Experiment with allowing dash activation when about to land from a jump/fall, which will allow players to cancel out any potential fall damage if timed correctly.

Offline Mode


Planes, trains, and automobiles. What do these all have in common? Thats right, no stable internet connection. Luckily, that wont stop you from kicking Superior butt! Superior: Vengeance can now be played offline! NOTE: Progress made offline is stored separately from your online profile!

The moment you've all been waiting for has arrived Version 1.0 is here! This update marks the end of Early Access and the official full release of Superior: Vengeance. We've packed a lot into this update, including a new playable character, new boss, new powers, our first Battlebook, enhanced audio, full localization in six languages, and more! Heres whats new:

New Character: Renegade


Meet Renegade, Superior: Vengeances second Bruiser! Like Ronin, Renegade relies heavily on getting up close and fortifying his armor. Unlike Ronin, Renegade sports an affinity for shotguns and getting under people's skin. Utilize Renegades unique Taunt skills to keep high damage targets off of your allies and control the flow of the fight!

New Feature: Battlebook 1


Introducing the Battlebook - an all new way to unlock new cosmetics, snacks, and characters! Battlebook items are unlocked via Battlebook Credits - a new in-game currency which is earned 1:1 with XP. Whether you're at the Max Level or still on the climb, you'll continue to rack up Battlebook Credits as long as you have items left to unlock in your Battlebook.

New Boss Fight: Smash & Dash


Smash and Dash are a pair of muscle bound brothers infected by the Xeno parasite who are ready to give you a serious workout! Their routine includes dodging high velocity barb wire, avoiding extra sharp cutlery, and generally running for your life! Fight Smash and Dash on Beta Earth.

New Powers: Duos


10 New Duo Superpowers are now available to unlock via the Hero Hit List! These powers utilize the strengths of two different power families and will only show up when a player has invested in both of them. Duos are unlocked by facing Smash and Dash. Learn more about Duos here.

They say you cant teach an Old Growth new tricks. Yeah, well see about that. The Growth is more dangerous than ever with new friends and attacks to keep you on your toes!

Superior: Vengeance Steam Deck compatibility is currently pending official review by Valve, but while we wait to get our fancy check mark, we wanted to let Steam Deck players know now what they should expect if they want to play Superior: Vengeance on the Deck. Steam Deck/controller icons: We have integrated Steam Deck and controller icons within the game, ensuring a cohesive and intuitive gaming experience. Seamless functionality: Superior: Vengeance has been optimized to ensure that all functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration. Youll be able to dive right into the action without any hassle. On screen keyboard support: When joining a lobby, you can easily enter text by manually invoking the on-screen keyboard. Optimal performance: Superior: Vengeance runs at a resolution supported by the Steam Deck, ensuring crisp visuals and smooth gameplay. The default graphics configuration has been fine-tuned to perform well on the device. Legible interface: All in-game interface text has been carefully designed to be legible on the Steam Decks screen, so you wont need to squint or strain your eyes to read important information. Initial setup and gameplay: An active internet connection is required for the initial setup and for all gameplay modes. Future improvements: We are committed to delivering the best experience possible both on and off the Steam Deck. Head in a Jar Update


Why do they call him Jarhead? It's a mystery... wait, no it isn't! This month we have the brand new Jarhead mission type, a Revolt refresh, and a handful of other updates and bug fixes:

New Mission: Jarhead!


A C-list Superior needs more juice to fuel his psychic powers and he's picked you to get it for him! Can you survive the onslaught?

Revolt Updates


Get amped! Revolt is feeling the spark after some rebalancing. This fight is more electrifying than ever!
  • Decreased the damage of Revolts Lightning Orbs from 50 to 20 per orb
  • Increased the number of Lightning Orbs Revolt fires in subsequent phases
  • Revolt is now invulnerable when he electrifies the environment
  • Revolts Storm attack now summons henchmen to his aid

Investigate Anomalies Update


  • Number of active polyps on each pustule reduced to the number of players
  • Polyps now play a tell before they fire
  • Polyps fire in short bursts that scale with the current threat level
  • Polyp now properly target and damage turrets
  • Projectiles can now be shot down
  • Increased projectile damage radius and speed
  • Reduced mega pustule laser tracking speed

Say hello to multiplayer challenge runs, new mutators, new items oh, and did we mention the pistols? Theres gonna be pistols.

Challenge Mode


Introducing Multiplayer Challenge Runs!


  • Team-up with your friends to take on Superiors together to unlock cosmetic rewards!
  • One player launches a challenge lobby and can invite their friends. All players must have a challenge key.
  • Abandoning a multiplayer challenge run counts as a death.

New Mutators


  • Scrapped (Challenge mode only) - Scraps move at 50% and arent worth any points
  • Critical Mass - Crits deal +45% damage, non-crits deal -35% damage
  • Allergic Reaction - Armor and Overshield depletes after 10 seconds of not dealing damage

New Content in the Hero Hit List!


Someone new has joined the Hero Hit List! Talk to the Bartender to start unlocking new Weapons and Items.

  • Gun Fu - Pistol damage is also increased by Melee Boost Kits
  • Pistolero - While a Pistol is equipped, move and reload faster and shoot with greater accuracy
  • Poppin Pistols - Your Pistols become grenades when you reload them
  • Pistol Whip - Melee does twice as much damage while a Pistol is equipped
  • Money Barrels - Loot Barrels give more cred. Stacks per player.

The Mega Melee & More Update


We have a HUGE update for you today, so lets get right to business!

Gameplay


  • New Content!


    • 3 new Melee weapons with all new attacks!
    • 5 new items!
      • Beatdown - Melee damage against the same target increases damage. Stacks up to 5 times.
      • Plasma Blades - Your Melee applies a plasma burn, dealing damage per second. Scales with melee weapon damage.
      • Slimy Touch - Your melee deals up to 100% more damage when you are Slimed. Scales with Slime amount.
      • Puncture - Melee kills on Exploders cause an instant detonation that does not damage you.
      • Off Menu - Reroll this store, then gain 3 additional rerolls. Rerolls work for the Juice Injector, Weapon Depot, and Upgrade Station.
    • New Boss Fight! Double Trouble??
    • 2 New Loot Drops - Reroll and Bag of Cred
  • After defeating Revolt, The Path to Growth is available from the first time you enter the bar on the next run.

Power Updates


Previously, we had been very strict about when players got certain powers, leading to somewhat stagnant builds over multiple runs. With this update, we are setting ourselves up for more build diversity by changing when we offer powers and tweaking existing ones.
  • Jump, Melee, and Dash powers are only guaranteed in the first Bar. After that, they are mixed in with the other augments, letting you pick and choose when you want to invest in new active powers, or double down on augments!
  • Powers that improve Xenos (such as Frenzied Xenos) now require you to have a source of Xenos before they can be acquired.
  • Armor Eater now requires the player to get Enhanced Metabolism before it can be acquired.
  • Hot Burn has been temporarily removed and will return in the future.
  • Flare Up has been reworked and now causes Lava puddles to deal more damage over their lifetime.
  • Wildfires has been updated to propagate on Burn applications and affect a greater radius of enemies.
  • Fork has been reworked and now causes Volt Disks to split after their first bounce.

Melee Improvements


Melee was always intended to be a primary pillar of Superiors combat system, but it felt lacking compared to power and gunplay. This update aims to increase the depth of the melee system as well as make it a first class feature that benefits all characters.

Key Updates


  • Dash Strike: Performing a melee at the end of a dash with performing a dash strike that propels you forward and damages enemies in your path.
  • Jump Strike: Performing a melee at the height of a jump will launch you up with a backflip, allowing you to get to greater height even without a Jump Power.
  • Light Melee 3 Hit Combo: Performing 3 subsequent light melee attacks ends in a finisher move that deals bonus damage.
  • Light Melee Magnetism: Light melee brings you into range of nearby enemies, ensuring your strikes hit their mark!
  • Hit Frames: Enemies damaged by melee are momentarily stunned, preventing them from slapping back.
  • Invincibility Frames: While performing melee, take reduced damage from other enemies, letting you stay in the fight!

New Feature: Gig Rerolls


Gig Rerolls can now be randomly obtained when completing regular runs. Gig Rerolls can be used to replace your current daily gigs, whether they are completed or not, giving you new targets to chase after for your next run!

Steam Updates


  • New local Solo Mode!


    • Fastest way to play, no need to wait for match making or a game server to spin up! Great option if you have spotty internet or high latency.
    • Balanced for a fun and challenging solo experience. Progress in solo is saved, so you can take your favorite character right into co-op with your friends!
  • Added first round of Steam Achievements, with more to come in future updates!
  • Steam players no longer compete against other players for cosmetics. Beat the challenges score and get rewards!

Characters & Skills


General


The early levels of the characters are super important to introducing players to the world of Superior. However, we felt that the early game skill trees didnt offer new players enough ways to get over some early hurdles. With that in mind, the trees were rearranged and organized to offer more exciting decisions throughout the whole tree, giving players more build options from start to finish.
  • New Generic Skill: Self-Reliant - Start the run with 1 Self-Revive. Requires character Overdrive skill.
  • New Generic Skill: Luck of the Draw - Start every run with 3 store Rerolls. Works with the Juice Injector, Weapon Depot, and Upgrade Station in the bar. Requires Booster Lottery skill.
  • Cred Infusion moved to the early portion of the tree and reduced to one level. Requires characters second skill.
  • Booster skills (such as Black Market Perks) are moved earlier in the tree and are optional.
  • Reduced the lag when unlocking skills.
  • The player can now right click a skill to refund a single skill point from that skill.

Ronin


Ronin is VERY fun, but his Overshield mechanics make him a little too powerful of a force to be reckoned with. Moving forward, Ronin will be getting tweaks to bring his survivability and damage more inline with Nomad and Murmur. The first change for this involves tweaking Kinetic Energy.
  • Swapped the position of Kinetic Energy and Overshield Burst
  • Changed Kinetic Energy to Energizing Kills gives +3 Overshield for 3 seconds after performing an empowered melee, jump, or dash.
  • Grandslam now reduces damage for each enemy it passes through.

Nomad


Nomad is dear to our hearts, but her skill tree decisions sometimes felt very lacking. Self-Revives offer a unique avenue for survivability, but by the final boss of a run she was often able to have more than she knew what to do with. With this update, we want to make her builds feel more intentional and give Nomad mains a more even experience over the course of the run.
  • New skill: Extended Mag - +10/20/30% magazine capacity on all weapons.
  • New skill: One in the Chamber - Crits have a 50/75/100% chance to add +1 ammo to your active weapons magazine.

Armor Update


The Bartenders gotten his hands on some fancy new Armor upgrades! Theyre available now from the item kiosk in the bar:

  • Medical Station: Health Pickups will appear in the bar each time you return.
  • Armor Repair Station: Armor Pickups will appear in the bar each time you return.
  • Explosion Resistant Armor: You take -75% damage from Explosions while you have Armor.
  • Fire Resistant Armor: You are immune to Burn while you have Armor.
  • Slime Resistant Armor: You are immune to Slime while you have Armor.
  • Sticky Resistant Armor: You are immune to Sticky while you have Armor.

Wind-Ups Workshop


Happy new year! Hope youre looking forward to 2023 as much as we are. Today, weve got an important new tool to add to your arsenal: a big selection of deployable turrets! How many, you ask? Weve got:

  • Standard Turret
  • Laser Turret
  • Plasma Turret
  • Rocket Turret
  • Shotgun Turret
  • Scatter Beam Turret
Weve also got new mods in the weapons shop for them:
  • Turret Ammo Module: Your Turrets have a 30% chance to spawn an Ammo pickup on kill.
  • Turret Armor Module: Your Turrets have a 30% chance to spawn an Armor pickup on kill.
  • Mechanist: You can deploy an extra turret.
  • Deployer Recon Module: Your Deployer periodically applies Mark to nearby enemies.

Sweet Tooth Update!


We always associate this time of year with sweet treats, so weve introduced some new snacks in the vending machine in the bar. Test your teeth against a Tough Taffy or if that sounds too dense, try a soft Angel Food Cake instead.

  • Refresh-Mints: Gain 5 Kiosk rerolls for the run (rest of the run)
  • Tough Taffy: Take 25% less damage (3 more encounters)
  • Angel Food Cake: Take 35% less damage and gain -25% XP (3 more encounters)
  • Mega Mixer: Gain double XP (3 more encounters)

Bug Fixes, Balance Tweaks, and More!


We have some big fixes and improvements this week, so lets dive right in: Hotfix Changes

  • Added more map variety on the hunt for Brute Force
  • Increased variety of weapon drops within an encounter
  • Murmurs Holograms now give credit for kills
  • Turret and Healer Drone health reduced
  • Fixed an issue that caused Wind-Up to occasionally become unresponsive during the second phase of the fight
  • Fixed several bugs related to firing weapons while in cover and blind firing
  • Potential fix for cinematic black screen bug

The Growth Appears!


A new alternate Earth has been found and with it, the most challenging superhero yet! Starting today, theres a brand-new Earth to explore with new bosses, new powers, and new environments. Making it to The Growth will be one challenge, and taking him down will be another.
We're also raising the level cap to level 30 and adding an Infamy system that lets you build even more powerful characters! As always, weve been hard at work on bugs, balance, and other issues too:

  • Just when you thought heroes couldnt get worse than Revolt, a new baddie appears. Are you up to the task of taking this behemoth down?

New Feature: Infamy


  • Go above and beyond with the Infamy system!
  • When a character reaches max level, you can increase their Infamy ranking, permanently increasing their max level.
  • With Infamy, you can bring your character up to level 50 and explore much more powerful and diverse builds on your character!

Hi all!, We've got another hotfix for you today to address a few things before our next content update goes live. Hotfix Changes

  • Added a setting to enable or disable VSync
  • Fixed a bug where it was possible to do a leaderboard run and not get your score posted
  • Fixed a bug where getting extra juice could inadvertently give you the option to procure a power you already owned
  • Made a few additional preparations for our upcoming content

Nov 29: Thank you! Hotfix!

Thank you all for checking out Superior and for sharing your Early Access feedback with us. Thanks to your reports we've been able to address some issues and squash more bugs. Please continue to let us know if you run into issues. Here's what changed for this hotfix:

  • Added a skippable intro cinematic
  • New handling for login and authentication errors to be less jarring when the client needs to close
  • Changed the default FPS cap setting to 60
  • Fix for players automatically getting revived when the teammate reviving them gets knocked down
  • Fix for intermittent issue where sometimes skill icons were not showing up on the HUD
  • Fix to leaderboards not giving rewards at the end of a run
  • Fix for Ronin's blade master ability giving >57,000% melee damage

Nov 18th hotfix

Hey all, We've got another hotfix for you here on Early Access Day 3! A handful of bug fixes that should make your weekend superhero killing sessions go a bit more smoothly. Here's what we've got:

  • Hardware auto-detect has been tweaked to provide better default settings for your system
  • Improvements have been made to the delivery and language of the error messages
  • Notifications are now properly coming through to tell you when matchmaking is having issues
  • QuickPlay is giving a little bit more time for connecting players to join up
  • Fixed a bug where it was possible to get over the max level cap limit of 25. Apologies to all of you overachievers.
  • A potential fix for a physics projectiles crash bug that was causing some game to end abruptly

Nov 17th Hotfix

Hey all, Thank you to everyone who jumped in on Early Access Day 1! You helped us find a few issues we hadn't seen before and we were able to fix the following:

  • Black screen should no longer occur when using Quick Play
  • Game servers are quicker to disable new player joins once the session has started, which addresses other issues like infinite loading screens.
We've got lots of other fixes and new content on that way. Looking forward to sharing it with all of you!

Superior Early Access is Live!

Gameplay


  • New Content!
    • New boss: Revolt
    • New map: Bunker
    • Added Volt Powers
  • Xeno and Fire powers damage reigned in a little bit
  • Added a deposit all button to the ATM
  • Added base interest rate to the ATM
  • Gig and Goal amounts rebalanced to be more attainable
  • Amount of XP required per level significantly reduced
  • Added hot new music tracks and sound effects

Challenges


  • Added a kill counter and a timer to the hud during a challenge
  • Challenges are now seeded to help reduce randomness
    • Enemy spawn groups are fixed
    • Objective locations are fixed
    • Powers, Items, and Weapons offered to the players are random
  • Time spent in the bar no longer counts towards your total time. Take your time :)

New Feature: Branching Paths


  • After defeating a major boss, the teleportal can be configured to take you to new worlds in need of saving with an added challenge!

New Feature: Snacks


  • Collects snacks from completing missions. Eat snacks in the bar to gain a temporary boost!
    • One Pound Burrito - Gain +10 Max Health for 3 Encounters
    • Really Hard Hard Tack - Gain +25% Melee Damage for 3 Encounters
    • Brutewurst - Gain +25% Overall damage for 3 Encounters
    • Kaiju Burger - Gain 1 self revive for the rest of the run

Characters


General
  • Added automatic scaling for characters overall damage scale up to level 30
  • Juicy Surprise now gives a Power Damage Boost Kit instead of a random Power Family booster.
Ronin While we enjoyed the power fantasy of Ronin, his damage potential far outclassed his comrades by a staggering amount. We reduced the damage bonuses from many of his damage oriented skills to bring him more in line with Murmur and Nomad. His early tree tankiness was also a bit too much, and could propel a Ronin much further into a run than anticipated. The minor adjustments to Energy Efficient and Energizing Blade will make aggressive players approach situations more tactfully while not robbing him of his tank potential.
  • Base stats adjusted to 10 Armor and 20 Health
  • Reduced Energy Efficient damage reduction from 75% from 50%
  • Reduced Energizing Blade melee damage bonus from 25% to 15%
  • Reduced In Your Face close damage from 10/20/30% to 3/6/9%
  • Reduced Get In There close damage bonus from 10/15/25% to 2/4/7%
  • Reduced Energizing kills Overshield bonus from 5 per close kill from 3
Nomad
  • Base stats adjusted to 10 Armor and 10 Health
  • Devastate now stuns armored enemies if triggered
Murmur Diving in and out of combat and circling around enemies is a fun gameplay loop, but a bit too tricky to pull off for the reward. Fade Away now makes building for flanking much easier while the new Explosive Exit stun gives her a unique CC angle and sets up her enemies devastating backstabs! Quick Recovery in the late tree was a little bit too nutty, allowing players to essentially become immortal. Players can now only stave off the inevitable before having to retreat and catch their breath for a second pass, playing into her more rogue-ish nature.
  • Base stats decreased to 10 Armor and 15 Health
  • Changed Backstab to Flank to better indicate what the player has to do to get the bonus.
  • While using Fade Away, all enemies are counted as flanked
  • Reduced Explosive Exit damage
  • Explosive Exit now stuns enemies for 5 seconds
  • Reduced Quick Recovery armor regen amount from 25/35/50% to 10/20/30%
  • Removed the Mark from Flatfooted
  • Holo Swarm changed to greatly reduce After Images cooldown instead of immediately spawning 5 holograms

Bug Fixes


  • Fixed Ice Melee not applying its held attack damage
  • Fix Fire reapplication trigger Hot Burn too often
  • Patched some holes in the world
  • Improved Orbital Laser replication
  • Fixed Murmurs holograms not replicating their firing animations and not firing as often
