This is another hotfix build for the demo!
This build adds audio options in the settings menu, and implements the first fix attempt for some users seeing flashing black boxes.
Fixes / Changes
- Add tabs to the settings menu
- Add audio volume options for music, sounds, voice
- Fix a few settings not showing their remembered value in ui
Audio settings
Nothing surprising, just adding the missing options to control the audio levels
We'll continue to polish the experience during and after Steam Next Fest!
Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo!
This build tries to clarify how input building requirements work.
Fixes / Changes
- Show an icon for the direction of input requirement
- Show some text in world for the input requirement issue (see below)
Input Requirements
Previously, building input requirements were shown as a simple piece of text in the pre-build info. This was a little unclear for many so we 1. Switched the order of the wording 2. added icons to clarify that the words are a direction. 3. Display the information on the game world as well!
We'll continue to polish the experience during and after Steam Next Fest!
Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build tries to clarify the last research level in the demo, and introduce more flexibility in the experience. Fixes / Changes - Slow down intro rotation to reduce motion sickness - Add 'pause to read' option, changing the default to false. See below - Add clarity to the descriptions of Storage Foundation (Waste), Resource foundation (NANO) - Add hint from the drone for Waste + Nano if you are still looking for it. These new prompts will get VO soon. Pause To Read Previously, when the hover panel/build/upgrade info was displayed it would pause as to not waste time of day, in an effort for you not to feel rushed as time ticks past. From feedback, this seems like a preference people prefer to not have enabled, so we're trying with the default to off. If you'd like that behaviour, turn it on in the settings menu. Black flashing blocks Please note if you are experiencing this, we are aware of it and are working on fixing it. You can visit our discord to help fix that. We also have a work around while you wait. Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build fixes a breaking bug that snuck in during our previous patch. Sorry for the inconvenience! Fixes / Changes: - Fix breaking bug where cursor stays stuck on the building you built - Disable debug keys that can break the experience easily Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build fixes some issues surrounding the cursor + the camera following it (especially in gamepad mode). Fixes / Changes: - Draw the grid cursor as a tall beam when entering the fog, so you can still find it - Fix grid cursor secretly moving around in the menu or when ui is open - Fix grid cursor starting in an odd place, now starts the same place consistently - Fix camera snapping back after moving the grid cursor (e.g when entering the fog) Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build fixes some UI issues introduced by the resizable UI. Fixes / Changes: - Fix hidden Cycle counter - Fix UI being wrong size on fullscreen launch sometimes - Fix camera jumping around in menu with gamepad input again Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build makes things a bit nicer all round. Fixes / Changes: - Tweak resident scale - Fix camera fade being wrong size - Make pause screen navigable by gamepad - Fix camera control during intro camera transition - Add gamepad 'start' button to pause/unpause the game - Fix camera jumping around in menu with gamepad input - Fix OBS/related cropping when using Game Capture source (thanks Silver_Streak!) Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is another hotfix build for the demo! This build reworks gamepad input for the UI, making it a lot more fluid and intuitive than the old workflow. Fixes / Changes: - Display a trail when navigating between elements with gamepad - Remove all explicit prompts and make navigation implicit + directional - Fix rogue gamepad prompts (and more) in intro Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
This is a hotfix build for the demo! The most important fix is the Steamdeck build is a lot more stable now! While we're still polishing the Steamdeck build, it should at least work well enough! If you run into issues try reload the save, and let us know! Fixes / Changes: - Fixed missing VO! - Experimenting with blob shaped residents! (instead of rectangles) - Fix performance regression on resizing UI every frame - Fix 'paused' status showing when not paused - Make sure all UI is displayed correctly on different resolutions - Update logo to latest and display it correctly - Fix clipping on some ui elements on Steamdeck Thanks for all the players that reported issues and tested, we look forward to more feedback!
Hello friends!
We've been quiet for a while for various reasons, but since we're moving towards release we would love for you to try out the Mossfield Origins demo, and let us know what you think!
The demo is a small slice of the full experience, 20-40min on average, and isn't final. It could have bugs and performance issues, all stuff we're expecting. We'll be updating the build over the next week and more since the demo will also be in Steam Next Fest next week!
If you have feedback you can feel free to email us, or join the discord. Thanks and see you out there!
Studio Any Percent has decided to move forward with self-publishing Mossfield Origins rather than partner with Kitfox Games for its release. We appreciate your patience as we settle into the new community set up!

Greetings Residents!
This past month has been eventful, both literally in real life and more virtually here on Steam. Happy Pride Month!
In real life, our main developer Ruby has been out of commission for a little bit (including resting up and staying healthy), but things are picking up again as we revisit our last bits and bobs before launch. Well hopefully have a roadmap and release date to share with you soon. (Here's a cute server giving some side-eye to a house)
Meanwhile, here on Steam, event after event seems to occur. For example, Mossfield Origins was selected by the Cozy and Family Friendly Games Celebration and the currently ongoing Future of Play Festival. We have more in store for the coming months, so welcome, any and all new residents who discovered us through these promotions. All we want to do is make a lovely little experience for you to play, and your wishlist and eventual purchase helps us go on to make more like it.
Were up to more than 28,000 wishlists now, which is great, but if you have a friend who likes snack-sized builders, why not share it with them today?

One of the artistic goals of Mossfield Origins is to reflect a healthier relationship thats possible between humans and the world(s) we live on, depicting a more sustainable approach to life and our habitation. If thats a theme that resonates with you, it might interest you to know that Kitfox is also supporting World Oceans Day (thats today!) with a special bundle! You can buy 4 Kitfox games at a discount, and your purchase benefits the Whale and Dolphin Conservation charity.
Thank you for your support!

P.S.
Don't trust personal messages with links to download the game from the internet. Any tests we do will be via the official Steam client. Malicious hackers have already accessed some peoples' computers by impersonating us. Stay safe!
Good afternoon Future Residents, A reminder that the Kitfox 10th Anniversary Sale is on for two more days. All our games are on sale, so don't miss out! This week's update shows off the visual upgrades we've beamed down to the planet. Even the textual elements are more clear. Read the full brief:
Hello Residents, It's your mission director checking in with an update about the mission launch.
The preparation for the journey is moving along well, with a lot of loose ends cleared up and a lot of major improvements landing to make our experience better.
(Note some details/visuals are not final, and the gifs lose a lot of quality!)
Hello future residents,
Welcome to February! In case you missed last months update, we are excitedly preparing for launch this year! Soon you will be able to cozy up and manage your own little space community.
Recently we ran some playtests with close friends and family to test out the design and tackle any early bugs that may appear. Check out what our playtesters have been up to in this gameplay impressions video. Keep in mind that this is early testing footage and does not reflect the final version of the game. Things done in the video such as placing buildings outside the fog is not part of the final experience:

We hope to open up testing to at least SOME members of the public soon, perhaps as spring approaches and the snow thaws. Make sure you join us over at the Kitfox Discord to chat with other residents and the devs and find out when the next phase of testing begins, or compare ideas for sustainable architecture and interplanetary diet management just beware scammers! Weve had a few false friends on Discord claiming to represent Any% or Kitfox, so just keep in mind we will never ask you to install an exe, and if the beta invitation is not coming from someone with rights on the Kitfox Discord server, theyre probably not to be trusted.
One of the quiet truths of Mossfield Origins is that recreation is research, that by taking care of yourself and balancing your life and work, youll contribute more meaningfully to both in a holistic way. In the game, your residents need time for themselves, recharging them to get back to whatever building tasks you might need during their worktime. Maybe we can see beta testing as a great example? More research for us and more recreation for you, but also a bit of both on either side.
To my family back home:
I wish you could see the sky here with me. In the day we imagine new ways of living, without damaging the ground beneath us, a new future. And at night, the stars form new patterns and clusters, and we can imagine new stories and legends, a new past and present. My favorite right now is a group of 5 stars to the northwest these days, in a rough V. I think of them as The Flock, an ever-migrating collective through space and time, unified in destination and purpose.
I hope youre well and can join me soon.
Also, the Kitfox team will be at PAX East! Let us know if youre in Boston, as well be hosting a panel and event around Dwarf Fortress and maybe well have more Mossfield Origins news?
Until next time,
Alexandra, Tanya, and Ruby
Hello Residents!
Alexandra here from Kitfox! We are excited that Mossfield Origins is part of the Season of Pride showcase on Steam highlighting 2SLGBTQIA games and developers.Check out the sales and streams happening over the weekend of released and upcoming games!
Mossfield Origins made by a queer dev team, but also features queer characters finding their way in a world dominated by the suspicious Life Corporation.
If you want to get updates on development join our newsletter
And talk with the devs in the Kitfox Discord where you can get a special Mossfield Resident title. Pretty snazzy if I do say so myself.
-Alexandra
Hello Resident, This is Alexandra, the Community Manager at Kitfox Games! I'll be helping Studio Any Percent with updates on Mossfield Origins development. We are excited to show off a brand new Mossfield Origins trailer which premiered on Future of Play Direct. This new trailer reveals the community management systems and some of the characters in the game! Watch now: [previewyoutube=9RW5Wl6SHNE;full][/previewyoutube] All is not what it seems when it comes to Life Corporation. Are they a force of good or evil? Some of the characters you'll meet along the way will struggle with these questions too.
We've teamed up with the wonderful folks at Kitfox Games to publish Mossfield Origins!
Kitfox makes great games like Boyfriend Dungeon and publishes gems like Dwarf Fortress and Pupperazi.
Working with like minded people on the same wavelength is a good thing for us, and we're excited to be able to focus on the game and work with them on crossing the finish line.
