Hey chummers and chooms, The game has been updated to version 1.3.2, once again bringing visual improvements to the game to enhance the immersion and player fantasy.

New Heist briefing cutscenes

From very early in development, we knew we wanted the crew to have these snappy briefing dialogues where they go over the heist plan, just like in movies like Mission: Impossible or Ocean's Eleven. But as we got into the later stages of development, it became clear that with our limitationsmainly the time left until releaseit would be the best candidate for a cut if we didnt want the rest of the game to suffer. Since all of the VOs were already recorded, we decided to implement a 'less expensive' solution as briefing dialogues.

With this update, we're finally bringing the briefing cutscenes back. They're done in the same motion comics style as the rest of the cutscenes in the game. Demo Update

So, what's new in the demo?

• Character Screen - Now you can inspect the stats of your character and alter them with...
• Cyberware - A major RPG component of the game is the ability to buy Cyberware in the Black Market, which is now available in the hub. (You earn the money you need by completing the demo mission, and you can then try it out in the Combat Simulator.)

• New and better combat tutorial - now explaining how the card types and the combo mechanic works.
• Improved combat UI with a better communication of when your combo is online.
• Improved card animations and handling - Based on the feedback we received, weve completely overhauled how you interact with the cards. The new system feels much smoother and is now on par with the standards youd expect from the genre.
• Improved combat animations and VFX.
• Quite a lot of UI improvements of pretty much every screen in the game.
• Enemy inspect screen - A brand new UI screen that allows you to take a closer look at each enemy, inspect their stats, and see the cards they can play.

• Full map of the city - You can explore the city and imagine where the story of the game will take you.
• New Music - We've added another track to combat and a special music track for boss battles. Theres also a brand new music track for the hub and world map.
• The way music is handled has also changed, so it should no longer get abruptly interrupted when you change screens.
• Xbox controller support - The demo should be fully playable with an Xbox controller. If you find anything that isnt working as expected, be sure to let us know.

Even though HeistGeist is a story-focused RPG, the card combat constitutes a significant part of the game. With more than 40 cards, each with two different upgrades, theres plenty of room for discovering powerful combinations and builds, as well as playstyles that might not meet expectations. Hey folks, looking back on 2023, it's been a wild ride for our game development journey. Before we step into the new year, let's rewind and appreciate the significant milestones that made it special.

January

In January, we released our very first HeistGeist demo, offering everyone a sneak peek into the envisioned look and feel of the final game. February

In the week of February 6-13, we dived headfirst into the Steam Next Fest, swimming in a pool of positive and constructive feedback. This event marked our first opportunity to showcase the game to a broad audience. Despite our initial concerns, the reception was pretty great. It gave us a reality check on whether our game was hitting the mark. Throughout February and March, our focus was dedicated to reviewing player feedback and making crucial game design decisions and implementations. We concentrated on enhancing visual clarity and adding controller support.

March

From March 21 to April 1, we participated in the online festival "The Storyteller's Festival."

April

In April, we made a significant overhaul of the hacking mechanic. From April 24 to 26, we participated in the prestigious REBOOT Develop Blue conference in Dubrovnik (Croatia), where we showcased the game. This marked our fourth appearance at this conference, but the first time post-pandemic, adding a chill holiday flavor to the experience.

May

In May, we incorporated Guardian nodes into the hacking mechanic and introduced the combat simulator mode to assist in testing combat mechanics and balancing.

June

On June 2-3, we were part of the Game Access conference in Brno (Czech Republic), likely the biggest and coolest conference around. It was a lot of fun, meeting both familiar and new faces, and walked away with the "Best Art Award"!
Throughout the summer, our focus was on writing developing the story, dialogues, and events for each heist, methodically tackling level design intricacies one level at a time. We crafted dialogue scripts for voice actors, and proofread texts, and this has remained an ongoing task ever since.

August

In August, we added and reworked numerous VFX effects. We introduced several new status effects to spice up battles and included new enemy types. Furthermore, we wrapped up the implementation of the first iteration of full controller and Steam Deck support.
From August 28 to September 4, we participated in the online festival Steam Strategy Fest.

September

In September, we tackled the conceptual, visual, and mechanical design of most in-game enemies. Additionally, we successfully implemented a significant portion of UI screens and elements.

October

In October, our amazing composer, Robert Bruckmayer, completed work on a truly breathtaking soundtrack for our game. We had a blast at Game Days Kosice from October 26 to 28! It's the biggest (and only) conference for game developers in Slovakia and an awesome event, especially for our local community. The atmosphere is super friendly.

November

In November, we crafted an entirely new story trailer, featuring numerous fresh shots from the game, showcasing enemies, new battle screens, and a sneak peek into a couple of story elements from the final game. This trailer was featured in the showcase at the online Steam festival "Czech & Slovak Games Week," held from November 13 to 20. Additionally, we participated in the parallel online festival Turn-Based Carnival from November 14 to 21. December

December is like the Friday of the year, a time when we aimed to tackle unfinished tasks. However, the COVID gods had different plans, and practically all of us fell ill at different times during the month. This threw a wrench into our planning and management, disrupting things just before the Christmas holidays. Fortunately were all fine now. --------------------------- The next year is shaping up to be a significant one for us. We're gearing up to kick off the beta testing phase for our combat system and gradually move closer to the release of HeistGeist. It's a mix of scary and exciting stuff. What's new in the d1.1.1 update

Combat improvements

• Improved communication of when you have the combo ready - When the combo condition for a card you are about to play has been met, the card now displays a visible golden glow. An animation has been added to the last played card indicator, making it easier to follow.

• New Visual Effects (VFX) - Several new visual effects (VFX) have been added to nearly all attack animations, for both Alexandra and her enemies. We've also added impact VFX for various damage types: slashes, stabs, shots, electricity, poison, and more.
• Notifications - Every time a character in combat receives a status effect or their HP value is changed, a notification pops up next to them.
• Change to Shield visuals - Now, when a character with a shield is attacked, a special animation is played, showing the shield being impacted. There's also a special animation for when the shield gets destroyed.
• Improved combat animations - Work continues.
• New cards - Six new cards have been added for you to try out.

*NEW* Combat Simulator

• A new type of 'mission' accessible from the city map. This involves a series of combat encounters in which you can try out the new cards and experiment with different deckbuilding strategies

Hacking overhaul

• Visual improvements -
• Tooltips - When a Node on the grid is hovered over, it now displays a tooltip with all the necessary information about it. This eliminates the need to refer back to the tutorial when you're uncertain about remembering something correctly.
• Card effect preview - When you target a node with a card, the effect it will have is now previewed on the grid. This informs you about how the strength of the node will change, or whether it will be captured or destroyed.

• Guardian Node - New type of ICE Node that you will have to overcome
• Garbage Node - New type of Node that you can use to discard cards you currently don't have a good use for, so that they wouldn't take up precious memory space.

New Music

• New music tracks have been added to the heist map and hacking.
• All of the music tracks have been broken down into individual instruments with a predetermined chance of being played. This ensures that when the track loops, it sounds different from before.

*NEW* Controller and Steam Deck support

• The game should be fully playable with an Xbox controller and also on the Steam Deck. This marks the first iteration of this feature, so we're very much open to your feedback. We're also aware that some of the text on the Deck might be a bit too small; that's something we plan to work on.

Hello everyone! We wanted to take a moment to update you on what we've been up to over the past few months, as well as what we're currently working on and what we have planned for the near future.

Reboot Develop Blue 2023

Last week (April 24-26, 2023), we had the pleasure of attending the Reboot Develop Blue conference in (mostly) sunny Dubrovnik, Croatia one of our favorite events.
At our demo booth, we unveiled the first version of our experimental Combat Simulator, a mission that challenges players to fight their way through increasingly difficult enemies. We also previewed four new cards that we're currently testing out. Aside from gathering valuable feedback from the developer community, we had the opportunity to connect with fellow developers and try out several exciting new games. What we're working on

Apart from attending conferences, we were also hard at work finishing up all the game's features and creating content.

Controller and Steam Deck support

The first thing we'd like to mention is the controller and Steam Deck support that we've been working on. We're excited to report that we have a functioning prototype, which is working quite well. However, it has also highlighted some areas that still need to be addressed to achieve the high-quality experience we're aiming for, such as text size on smaller screens and intuitive navigation on the heist map.
We'll keep you updated on our progress, and we'll let you know when it's ready to be tested in the demo.

Content - Story, levels, enemies and cards

We're also hard at work creating new content for the game, including writing the game's story, designing levels, and creating new enemies and cards.

• Story & Levels - In the demo, you got a small taste of the game, but there is so much more to Alex and her crew's story. We have the story outline completed and are currently transforming it into individual levels with unique story events and dialogues. Players can look forward to meeting plenty of cool new characters and experiencing thrilling heists in locations inspired by real existing buildings.

• Enemies - Rather than talk about them, we'd like to give you a sneak peek of some of the enemis that will do everything in their power to stop Alex and her crew from achieving their goal.

• Cards - As for the cards, we're working on adding new cards for Alex to add a couple more archetypes to build your deck towards. While they still revolve around her signature combo mechanic, these new cards will introduce fresh mechanics and tactics for players to utilize. We will talk about them a bit more in a few months, when we'll be also looking for testers who would like to give these new archetypes a try.
• Hacking - We're also working on the next iteration of the hacking mechanic, which will add a new special type of barrier nodes called Guardians to the grid. In addition, we'll be introducing some more UX and quality of life improvements.

Game Access 2023

Next up, we'll be attending the Game Access 2023 conference in Brno, Czech Republic, where we'll be showcasing some of the features we've mentioned above. You'll be able to try them out in our demo, along with many other cool games that will be showcased at the event. If you don't have any plans for June 2-3, 2023, consider stopping by and say hi!

What's new in the d1.0.10 update

Choice events

• Change to the screen layout - Outcomes of your choices are now shown on the right side of the screen in a form of a list
• Updated typography - We have changed the default font, adjusted the spacing and font sizes of various texts, to make them more pleasant to read
• Dynamic image change - The title image associated with each event can now sometimes change to better illustrate what's taking place in the event
• More character animations - The characters on the left side of the screen are now more reactive to what's happening in the particular events
• Animated text - The texts of the event are now revealed gradually as they fade-in onto the screen over a short period of time
• New texts - Pretty much all of the texts of the Choice Events went through rewrites, stylistic changes and proofreading

Combat

• Simplified card texts - Introduced a new keyword Combo, that replaced the usually quite wordy explanation of how playing the cards in sequence work. The explanation has now moved to the card tooltip.
  
• Camera Shake - Due to a mistake, all the attacks and hits lacked the proper impact before, but not anymore!
• Replaced Vigilance with Payback - The Vigilance status effect is now replaced with a new, similar status effect, called Payback. It reads: Payback [X] - When this character is attacked, they deal [X] damage to the attacker. Lasts for one turn.
• Special attack animations for combos - Currently experimental. When you meet the combo requirement of playing a card in sequence with card of a certain type, it now has a slightly different animation.

Misc

• Subtitles in cutscenes - Added english subtitles to all three cutscenes present in the demo.

After her last job went terribly bad, Alex is on the run from corporate assassins and an unhappy client, as she tries to put together a team of specialists to pull off a heist of a lifetime. In HeistGeist you plan and execute highly sophisticated heists for super secret prototypes or classified corporate intel. But even the best laid plans can sometimes get messy.
If stealth is not an option, you fight guards and automated security systems in card based battles. You build a deck suitable to your playstyle, play the right cards and unleash powerful combinations on your enemies. Or you can attempt to hack your way into the most secure corporate systems in our reimagination of cyberspace net running with a special card-based hacking mechanics.
