Hey all, I am so sorry for not updating sooner, and for not being on top of things recently. I realize i owe all of you much more than I have offered so far, the main reason for the slow pace of everything is a combination of full-time work & now having a family. I gravely underestimated the amount of time that these things would take up and how it would affect my work on Caffeine. So for now I am not talking about dates or episode two, I am going to be taking it one step at a time and the first part of that will be to finish the update i promised to episode one and then finish work on episode two. Again i'm sorry for all this but i hope i can redeem myself somehow by getting these updates & episodes out. thank you for your patience and thank you to those of you who have poked me on twitter to encourage me to keep going. Dylan

Hello everyone, I know that it has been slow going for Caffeine updates this year and would love to announce that I have added a new alpha build of Caffeine to Steam which will be available as a “beta” branch to everyone who owns the game already. The build in this new branch is being updated with features and fixes which will make up the final patch to Caffeine Episode One, at this time the playable area is similar to the original demo in size and will expand over the next few weeks. To enable this experimental build of the game, head to the Beta tab under Caffeine’s Steam settings and select “alpha2016″ with the password “coffeeisthekey” . Please take note that this is a very experimental branch intended to gauge compatibility issues and performance improvements, please send bug reports to dylan@incandescentimaging.net. Thank you all for remaining patient with me, and enjoy the holidays! Dylan

Hi everyone, I am afraid to say that everything is moving at a snail's pace at the moment, sorry about that! Anyway I am about 60% of the way to finishing the optimization / VR patch and tests have been great both running normally and in the Vive (no VR sickness yay!) I am hoping to share some screens on Sunday and hopefully can get this out asap! Thanks for your patience and kind words. Cheers Dylan

Hello there, As promised I am here writing this out tonight! While there are a few people that do like the game so far, I can see there are some problems with Episode One in it's current state a few things also did not turn out exactly as good as they could have in the game. I have been working hard behind the scenes slowly re-writing a heap of the games underlying systems and plan to flesh out areas which seem to have been neglected in the caffeine ridden world in the coming months with multiple updates to the game. I will be posting once a week here about the progress and any upcoming content to be added to the game. While there isn't a huge amount to show yet (most of it so far has been behind the scenes) I can reveal that so far these re-writes along with a newer engine version have boosted Caffeine's frame-rate by almost double which i think is great news! I will be pushing this optimization out in the next couple of weeks and will be sure to make a fuss once it goes live. Anyway thanks for your support and patience towards a lowly part time one man dev :) Cheers Dylan

Hi everyone, Sorry about the less frequent updates recently, I am still gathering together fixes for the few that are having a crash in DX12 mode. In the mean time I thought I should drop a line here to let you know that Caffeine gets quite a large performance boost from the newest AMD Crimson drivers (10-30fps increase in DX12 mode). Interim VR support has also seen a performance increase with the new drivers. Enjoy the weekend! Dylan

Hi everyone, Due to numerous reports and an investigation into a few game breaking bugs in update v117 I have decided to rollback to v116 while I get these few issues fixed. Hopefully it will only take a few days. Cheers Dylan

Hello all, I just wanted to give you all a heads up on when the next patch is dropping, originally I was going to post one tonight but i have decided to hold off till Sunday to get some more fixes and optimizations into it. Stay tuned, Cheers Dylan
Performance Fix #1
Good evening all, I just pushed a small patch which added the ability to turn off the in game sun in the settings menu, as well as disabling the sun when shadows are turned off so that the game still looks great with shadows disabled. Disabling shadows usually provides up to a 50% performance increase at the moment so having the game still look good with them disabled is very important. Stay tuned for a larger update tomorrow evening. Thanks for being patient and enjoy your night! Cheers Dylan
Today a patch has been released to address most of the launch bugs / day one issues. This is just the start of many updates to come to improve both the game experience and to fix current issues players are having with the game.
Added
- Small tutorial system in the first area, familiarizes player with gameplay concepts. -Renamed the Steam store package to Caffeine - Season One to avoid confusion as to what you are buying.
Fixed
- Texture streaming (All notes and terminals are now readable on any graphical setting) - Various collision glitches (No more loosing the first keycard inside the monitor) - Game now remembers graphics options and applies them at startup. - The two checkpoint saves in the game are now working. - Physics (Objects are now much less likely to break the space time continuum) - Small performance increase from complete obliteration of static lighting. - BSOD after 10 mins of playing.
Hello everyone! So we had a bit of a rocky release, I believe I can still turn it around.
Most Issues Now Fixed
First off the bat I would like to note that I have been trying to keep up with all the bug reports and will be sending out a patch today to mainly address the note textures not rendering properly in some situations. That being said I have patched out pretty much all of the bugs described in the first two negative reviews on Steam, so they should all be fixed as that patch went up on day one. All of you please know that I have been reading almost everything that is being posed here and I am vowing to get everything fixed and make Episode One better, before moving over completely to Episode Two development.
Linux Support Is Here
I am glad to announce that the Linux version of Caffeine is now up and running on Steam!
Hey everyone! Well the introductory episode one is mere hours away, I wanted to take some time here to let you all in on the details of the release in a few hours. Platforms Caffeine - Episode One will be available on Windows & Max OSX at launch, while the Linux version will be up as soon as I crush some unforeseen last minute bugs (should be within a day or two). Issues & Bugs If you experience any bugs or issues please let me know via support@incandescentimaging.net and feel free to suggest features / settings that you feel would add to the usability of the game. On that note, this is our first game release on multiple platforms so don't fret if you find a bug, we will attempt to crush it asap! VR Support On release Caffeine will have full in-game Oculus Rift support by hitting alt+tab while in-game. The main menu and settings menus are currently displaying incorrectly while in stereo mode, this will be patched into the game along with OSVR & SteamVR support later on in release week so we can iron out gameplay related issues first. Anyway that's enough for now, back to bug fixing! Cheers Dylan

Caffeine - Episode One
Synopsis
Caffeine is a quirky first person adventure game with environmental puzzles and a touch of psychological horror.
Set in the near future, the entire population of Earth is vigorously addicted to coffee. Massive space stations built by the biggest corporations roam the stars mining minerals to create a synthetic caffeine.
You awaken aboard one of these caffeine mining stations alone. Before long you realize that you are a young boy with no memory of what has transpired on this seemingly empty space station.
Naturally you set out to explore the depths of the huge structure to figure out what exactly is going on.
Caffeine is a collection of three episodes, the first of which will be released on October 5th 2015.
Episode One is a 1 hour adventure which sets the story and tone of what is to come and be expanded upon in Episode Two and Three.
Episode Two and Three will be released as free updates to the Season Pass version of the Game in the first half of 2016 and will feature longer play times and challenging puzzles.
Graphics
Caffeine utilises various technologies like DirectX 12, Ray traced distance field shadowing and dynamic lighting to give players a visually stunning game which looks great on low and ultra settings.
Audio
Caffeine features stunning sound design from Jonathan Wachoru (Outlast) and a serene music score by Adam Klingman of Bay Drive Sound.
Oculus Rift Support
On release Caffeine will have full in-game Oculus Rift support by hitting alt+tab while in-game. The main menu and settings menus are currently displaying incorrectly while in stereo mode, this will be patched into the game later on in release week so we can iron out gameplay related issues first.- Processor: 2Ghz Dual Core ProcessorMemory: 4 GB RAM
