Hotfix 1.2.0b

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where players could load a save game file in which they had already completed the game by pressing the "Continue" button (thanks to Robbe for the report);
  • Main menu buttons can no longer be pressed when a message about unlocking New Game + appears.

Balance adjustments:

  • Energy conservation module now also reduces the amount of fuel received, except for refueling at a maintenance station. This was done in order to prevent the "cheese", where players could combine several special upgrades to achieve infinite fuel (thanks to BadSniper for bringing this to my attention).

Update 1.2.0 is finally here!

Hey dieselminers!

Great news! New Game+ is finally available in the main version of the game!

So, what does Update 1.2.0 include?

New Game+ features

New Game+ is aimed to make Ad Fundum endlessly replayable, so it includes: [olist]
  • Endless restarts. After completing New Game+, you can start again in New Game++ and New Game +3 and so on. There is no limit to how many times you can restart, and the game adjusts tile hardness, ore prices and boss damage to keep up with your progress. Moreover, starting from New Game++, ore prices will randomly change providing a new challenge for you - to find ores that will yield maximum profits. Of course, theoretically, at some point beyond NG+50, numbers in the game might break... but no one can reach that far, right?
  • Infinite upgrades. In New Game+, you will unlock infinite upgrades for your mech. The mining speed, fuel regeneration rate, anti-gravity effect duration, and 9 other parameters of your mech can all be upgraded indefinitely. These upgrades will allow you to become the ultimate mining god!
  • New special upgrades. Also, in New Game+, you can discover new special upgrades with game-changing (or even game-breaking) effects.
  • New achievements. New Game+ comes with several new achievements, some of which require skill to unlock. Sorry, folks with 100% achievements, but you can't rest on your laurels! [/olist]

    Improvements since Open Beta

    Compared to 1.2.0.beta.6, Update 1.2.0 includes the following improvements:
    • Fixed a bug with the Cargo Cleanse protocol working inconsistently (thanks to Wylab and Sandbag for their help in tracking down the issue);
    • Ore minimap colors when using the Ore Detector have been adjusted to make them more distinguishable;
    • An issue where returning to the save slots menu after New Game+ settings menu would make the save slots not interactable has been fixed;
    • A problem with aggressive plants at level 5 randomly turning off when the player leaves their attack range has been resolved (thanks to Pico for the report).
    Open Beta version of the game will be discontinued today, as it is no longer required. Steam should automatically change the version of your game to the main branch.

    What's next?

    Unfortunately, this is the last content update for Ad Fundum. There are still things in the game that I want to improve and bugs to fix, so there will be 1 or 2 more updates aimed at increasing the game's performance and adding some small QoL features, but that would be it. After that, however, I will focus on bringing Ad Fundum to other platforms. Right now, I cannot say exactly which platforms Ad Fundum will visit, as this depends on a publisher that I have not found yet. However, I can assure you that I will aim for as many platforms as I can.

  • Update 1.1.4 & Beta update 1.2.0.beta.5&6

    Hey dieselminers!

    Today's update includes many bug fixes and improvements, but the most significant one is that New Game+ has reached its final form. Based on your feedback from the Open Beta, I have significantly rebalanced the progression in New Game+, and I think the new version is much improved. I even believe New Game+ is now ready to be integrated into the main game, but I have decided to keep it in the Open Beta for another few days just to be sure.

    So, regarding the update. Update 1.1.4 includes:

    New features & improvements:

    • It is now possible to collect more than one piece of ore using the Cargo Cleanse protocol when the cargo storage is full (thanks to SandBag for the suggestion);
    • To make it clearer how to access the vaults, a new feature has been added. Now, the first earthquake occurs after the player receives a call from Nathaniel Forge near one of the vaults;
    • The automated refueller now has a higher priority when the game decides what to use to fuel the mech when the fuel level drops to zero. Additionally, a message is displayed whenever Ignitium is used to restore the fuel level, and the amount of fuel restored has been doubled.

    Bug fixes:

    • Explosives can no longer be used in the boss area before the start of the boss fight (thanks to beazermyst for letting me know this was possible);
    • A bug has been fixed where teleporting from the final level while affected by metal spikes could cause the mech to slow down on the surface;
    • Another bug has also been fixed, where the elevator would sometimes deliver the player to the wrong platform if they hadn't found one of the upper platforms (thanks to Robbe for reporting it);
    • Fixed a bug where consumable items could accidentally be used multiple times if the player entered a dialogue while holding the item button;
    • Fixed a bug where player sometimes didn't take damage when falling onto closed gates;
    • Fixed a bug that caused players to take damage during earthquakes while mining through tiles with falling stones spawned inside;
    • Drills are nolonger slowly moving away from their original position due to incorrect animation resets (thanks again to SandBag for reporting this);
    • Fixed an issue where exploding multiple mines at the same time on level 4 could cause the game to crash (thanks to Pico for the report);
    • The magnetic field inverter now shuts off whenever an earthquake begins (thanks to Pico for noticing the problem);
    • ENDGAME SPOILER WARNING: [spoiler]I made an attempt to fix a bug where the "Slay that monster" button appeared not interactive despite meeting all the requirements for the "secret" ending. However, as I have not managed to reproduce this issue, I cannot guarantee that it has been fixed. Please let me know if you experience this bug again.[/spoiler]

    Beta update 1.2.0.beta.5 includes all the features of Update 1.1.4, as well as the following:

    New Game+ rebalance:

    New Game+ has been significantly rebalanced. Here are the main changes:
    • The price of infinite upgrades has been doubled, and they progress geometrically. The effects of most infinite upgrades, except for those increasing additional ore chances and hull strength, have also been doubled. Overall, this means that the price of upgrades grows faster but the value of each upgrade is much higher;
    • The effect of the infinite drill upgrade on the mining rate has increased, while the progression of tiles hardness between new games has been adjusted. Now, players will feel like their mech is mining a little bit faster with each new game;
    • Ore prices in NG++ and beyond now grow in geometric progression, and ores in these games will receive random buffs and debuffs to their prices for the entire playthrough, adding a new challenge for players to find the most profitable ore;
    • Boss fights in NG+ have become harder, and the hit points and damage of boss modules now grow faster with each new game.

    Other improvements:

    • Increased regeneration effect of the Alien metal hull from 2 to 5 HP per second;
    • Prices of some NG+ exclusive special upgrades have been increased;
    • The combined ore enrichment system bonus for additional ore chance has been reduced from 10% to 5% per mined tile. However, you now have 2 seconds to keep the combo instead of 1. Also, the current combo bonus is now displayed in the ore message;
    • Buying infinite upgrades that increase the maximum fuel amount/hit points now fully refuels/repairs the mech.

    Bug fixes:

    • Mines at level 4 will no longer produce ore piles after explosion if the player has the Industrial explosive charges special upgrade installed;
    • Fixed an issue with the names of Alien ore and Experimental alloys being displayed as "???" in the Statistics and Ore detector menus in New Game + (thanks to Pico and SandBag for their reports).
    Also, a few hours after beta.5 was released, beta.6 was released to fix an issue with the inventory not working properly when loading an old save from NG++ and later.

    Hotfix 1.1.3b & Beta update 1.2.0.beta.4

    Hotfix 1.1.3b includes the following improvements:

    • Added a line to the dialogue with Tobias that gives a hint on how to earn his forgiveness if the player makes him angry;
    • Fixed a bug that could cause the player to get stuck while mining crystal on level 3 if they tried to cancel mining (thanks to jaworeq for helping to track down this issue);
    • Addressed an issue where stalactites would continue to fall even if the player had Vibration suppressor 1.0 or 2.0 installed (thanks to SandBag for pointing this out);
    • Resolved an issue with elevator platforms not being displayed on the Terrain Depth Monitor (thanks to Lingluo for bringing this to my attention);
    • Fixed an issue with navigation with controller or keyboard not working in the Shop menu (thanks to Mysterio28 for reporting the issue);
    • Eliminated a visual glitch that caused a blue rectangle to appear above the player's mech after downgrading the thruster from S-tier (thanks to Pico for reporting this issue).

    Beta update 1.2.0.beta.4 includes all the features of Hotfix 1.1.3b, as well as the following:

    • Fixed a bug that prevented terrain from shuffling after earthquakes when the Earthquake survival system was installed (thanks to mashtong54 and SandBag for reporting this issue).
    • Fixed an issue where the Treasure detection system would continue to point to ID chips on Level 7 even after they were destroyed (thanks again to SandBag for bringing this to my attention).

    Hotfix 1.1.3a & Open beta update 1.2.0.beta.2&3

    Hotfix 1.1.3a (for the main version of the game) contains:

    • Fixed an issue where the player could accidentally replace a chassis with a lower-tier upgrade, causing chassis overload (thanks to Pico for the report);
    • Fixed a bug where the Cargo cleanse protocol treated wreckage as the cheapest ore in the game (thanks to Lingluo for reporting);
    • Removed a feature where the weight text increased each time the player tried to leave the Workshop menu with a chassis overload. This was a silly feature that I added as a joke, but it confused many players, so I have decided to remove it.

    Update 1.2.0.beta.2 contains the same fixes as the main version, as well as:

    • Fixed bugs with infinite upgrades not updating correctly after loading a previous save or starting a New Game++ (thanks to Lingluo and Sandbag for reporting);
    • Fixed an issue where mech stats would not update correctly after installing an infinite upgrade (thanks to mashtong54 and Sandbag for their reports);
    • Addressed an issue where surviving an earthquake with the Earthquake survival system installed would turn off the earthquakes (thanks to Lingluo for reporting this).

    Another update for Open beta has also been released today. Update 1.2.0.beta.3 includes:

    • Once again, fixed an issue with infinite upgrades not transferring from NG+ to NG++ (thanks to Sandbag for reporting this again);
    • Fixed a bug where supercapacitors weren't displayed on the mini-map with Ore Detector installed (thanks to Sandbag for the report);
    • A bug with alternative music for building menus not playing has been fixed.

    Update 1.1.3 & New Game+ Open Beta!

    Hey dieselminers!

    It's been a while since the last update of Ad Fundum, and since New Game+ still requires testing and balancing, I have decided to split Update 1.2.0 into two parts. Changes to the main game are be included in Update 1.1.3, and New Game+ is available in open beta. To join the beta, select Ad Fundum in your library, then go to "Properties" and select "Betas". In the "Beta participation", choose "Open beta". NOTE: The new Game+ update will introduce new achievements. The game will track your progress using internal statistics and award you with the relevant achievements when you load the game after the 1.2.0 update. However, the list of new achievements has not been finalized yet, so some of them may not be acquired during the open beta. Feel free to leave your feedback here Or on my Discord channel in the General discussion section: https://discord.gg/jxTnpxhSgA Now, what's new in the 1.1.3? This is the biggest update for Ad Fundum so far, as it includes:

    New features:

    • Added One-Life mode for those looking for an extra challenge. This mode erases your save file upon game over;
    • 0.5 second time window added to use the extra fuel tank after running out of fuel (thanks to the author of this post for the idea);
    • Mech's temperature has an impact on its visuals, making it easier to see when it reaches dangerous thresholds and use thermal stabilizers before taking damage;
    • Added an option to skip the entire story - useful for players who have completed the game and already know the story.

    UI improvements:

    • Added a comparison of the current mech stats with the stats of selected upgrades to make it easier to understand the differences between upgrades;
    • The shield strength is now shown on the HUD if the player has an S-tier hull upgrade installed;
    • Purchased mech upgrades are now highlighted in the workshop menu.

    Sound improvements:

    • The sound of Afterburner has been reworked, so it is now easy to tell when it is active;
    • The sound of the laser drill has been adjusted to be less noisy;
    • The sound of the locator has been reworked to make it easier to differentiate from the low fuel warning;
    • New sound alert has been added to indicate low health levels.

    Balance adjustments:

    • The cash rewards for finding S-tier upgrade blueprints have been adjusted. On levels 3 to 6, players will receive less money, but on levels 7 to 8, they will receive more;
    • After buying a special upgrade, finding its blueprint will now give a 25% reward of the upgrade's cost;
    • Threat Analyzer has been moved to level 4 and its price has been reduced to 1 million;
    • The reload time of charging stations on level 7 has increased from 5 seconds to 7, and their "charged" state duration has decreased from 4 seconds to 3;
    • Metal spike generation chance on level 8 has been reduced, and there are more ground tiles on the level. These changes only affect maps created after the update;
    • Earthquake duration in deeper levels has decreased to make them more challenging in the late game;
    • Being electrocuted with Electric power accumulator upgradeinstalled now gives much more fuel;
    • The amount of fuel generated by Thermal energy converter has been increased from 0.0075 to 0.025 liters per degree of excess heat per second;
    • Fuel reproduction tank now generates 0.1 liter of fuel per second, up from 0.06 liters.
    • Light energy converter now produces 20% more fuel, and it can also generate fuel in vertical mines connected to the surface. In addition, it generates a huge amount of fuel on the surface;
    • Biofuel production module now generates significantly more fuel from each tile;
    • High level Fixed-Cutter, Dredge, and Laser drills now consume significantly more fuel. This makes it more likely for your mech to run out of fuel in the later stages of the game. However, with the changes to fuel producing special upgrades, it is also easier to obtain fuel while underground;
    • Magnetic field inverter now costs 50 liters of fuel per use;
    • The recharge rate of the energy shield has been decreased from 10 per second to 5. On the other hand, visiting the Maintenance station now completely restores the charge of the anti-gravity engine and maglev chassis, as well as fully replenishing the energy shield;
    • The damage dealt by the Object 62-0 weapons has been significantly increased. Additionally, rotation and reload speeds of the weapong have been slightly improved. However, the health of energy cores has been significantly decreased. Overall, this makes the final battle more challenging, but also less grindy, giving the player a chance to defeat Object 62-0 even without taking out its weapons. The weapons' damage has not been changed for lower difficulty levels.

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed an issue with consumable items sometimes appearing on top of each other when dragged to the 1-9 slots from the inventory menu;
    • Fixed a bug where the player could get hit by Object 62-0's hull while it wasnt moving;
    • Resolved an issue where the drilling animation sometimes didn't play when damaging parts of Object 62-0;
    • Several spots in level 7 that were previously inaccessible without the S-tier thruster have been redesigned;
    • Player can no longer take damage while falling on the ground and not being able to control the mech due to an earthquake;
    • Addressed a problem where ore messages showed "+0 [Ore]" when using the Cargo Cleanse protocol and automatically discarding the cheapest ore;
    • Eliminated an issue where charging station lamps appeared above a mech when mining through them in level 7;
    • Fixed a bug where players could sometimes access buildings after game over;
    • Fixed a bug where the mech could sometimes get stuck in one of the tiles near the final level of the game (thanks to rOdyNZ for the report);
    • Fixed an issue with the elevator ride price sometimes being displayed incorrectly (thanks to AlexGamingPleb for the report);
    • Fixed a bug that caused stalactites from level 3 to get stuck on the elevator platform sometimes (thanks to Dystopia Dweller for reporting);
    • Fixed an issue where cables would sometimes remain after destroying a bomb;
    • Fixed an issue where bomb fuses would sometimes disappear after destroying one of the bombs;
    • New game settings menu no longer flickers when changing difficulty preset;
    • Fixed a bug where tracks would sometimes keep spinning after game over;
    • Fixed a bug where the money counter sometimes behaved incorrectly (thanks to Dystopia Dweller for reporting);
    • Fixed a glitch with clicking sound and navigation issues after changing VSync settings (thanks to AlexGamingPleb for the report);
    • Fixed a bug that allowed the Expedition headquarters to be upgraded beyond the maximum level;
    • Fixed an issue where the names of some buildings in the Expedition headquarters menu were displayed incorrectly when they reached the maximum level;
    • Fixed issues with refueling and repairing prices sometimes being displayed incorrectly;
    • Fixed a bug where the single-page text would not display after the player switched from a text with multiple pages (thanks to AlexGamingPleb for the report);
    • The "Can't Mine" sound will no longer be played when a player is trying to mine near a reinforcement beam (thanks to Dystopia Dweller for the report);
    • Fixed a bug with item selector sometimes selecting wrong items (thanks to Dystopia Dweller again for the report).

    Other changes:

    • The locator no longer detects collectibles inside the vaults unless they are opened during an earthquake;
    • Elevator platforms now appear broken until the player upgrades the elevator to the required level;
    • Some dialogues in level 7 can no longer be triggered after visiting level 8. This dialogues are not required for the "People Person" achievement and make no sense story-wise after visiting level 8;
    • A new in-game timer has been added. It displays the time spent in the current playthrough, including time in menus (but excluding the pause menu). The timer can be accessed by pressing the ~ button. NOTE: the timer is only accessible in runs started after the update, and the time displayed is different from the ingame time shown in save slots and statistics menus;
    • The response time for radio calls has been increased from 20 seconds to 40;
    • Magnetic field inverter and Threat analyzer can now be used from the inventory or assigned to slots 1-9 for easier use;
    • The player can no longer purchase upgrades which lead to chassis overload (thanks to Dystopia Dweller for the suggestion).

    What's coming with the update 1.2.0: new upgrades, new game modes and more

    Hey dieselminers! It's been a while since the last update for Ad Fundum was released and I'm still working on the New Game+ update. So, I wanted to share some details about update 1.2.0 with you.

    What will this update include?

    New Game+

    What could be better than starting a new game, saving all your upgrades, items, and most importantly, the profits? Starting over again! In 1.2.0 update, you will be able to start New Game+, then New Game++, New Game+++ and so on. The game will adapt to your mech with each new playthrough. Yes, just like in Dark Souls!

    Infinite upgrades

    Of course, it wouldn't make sense to have endless restarts without anything to spend your hard-earned money on. After starting a New Game+, you'll unlock infinite upgrades for your mech. Progress has no limits!

    New special upgrades

    And what is the point of starting a new game if there is nothing new to discover? That's why in New Game+, you will be able to find 8 new special upgrades. Some of them have insane effects!

    Finally, there are small improvements, such as:

    [olist]
  • Ability to use extra fuel tanks shortly after running out of fuel;
  • New sounds for the treasure detector and for taking damage when your health is low;
  • New visual effects to indicate when the mech is overheating or overcooling;
  • One-life mode for those looking for an even more challenging experience;
  • Option to turn off all story dialogue for those who know the story of the game already. [/olist] And many other minor improvements and fixes to make the game better!

    When will the update be released?

    Everything is ready, but there's still a lot of balancing and testing to do. It should take me 7-14 days to finish everything, but as you may know from my previous messages, I'm quite bad at predicting release dates :) So I can only say the update will be released soon, but time is relative. P.S. I would also like to apologize for the delay in releasing the update. Some issues in my life have distracted me from working on the game and, since I am a solo developer, progress has been halted for over a month. However, I am devoting as much time as possible to improving the game.

    Hey dieselminers!

    First of all, unfortunately, Update 1.1.2 does not include New Game+, but it is my next priority and will be released soon. Update 1.1.2 took way longer than I expected, but it brings many fixes and improvements:

    Hotfix 1.1.1d

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed an issue where some tutorial arrows pointed at the wrong buttons (thanks to the user Supaserrin for reporting this and other tutorial-related bugs);
    • Fixed a problem where the player didn't receive money after a certain dialogue in full tutorial, despite "Prometheus" stating that they would get a cash bonus;
    • Resolved an issue with some dialogue lines in the tutorial not appearing in English localization;
    • Addressed issues with difficulty ratings sometimes displaying incorrect values when selecting a new game difficulty;
    • Vaults should no longer spawn at the same location as elevator platforms (thanks to the user Daniel for reporting);
    • A bug where starting a new game rarely led to freezing has been fixed. If it persists, please let me know.

    Other changes:

    • The new game menu now requires the player to select difficulty before pressing the "Into the Depths" button (thanks to the user Supaserrin for the suggestion);
    • Difficulty settings in the new menu can now be changed with any preset selected. However, changing any setting sets the preset to "Custom."

    Hotfix 1.1.1c

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed an issue where the cargo cleanse protocol was useless at the "Meditating" difficulty level;
    • Fixed a bug where loading the last save right after starting a new game led to the map not loading properly.

    Regarding New game+:

    When the game was released, I shared that New game+ would be released in mid-July. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the game required more fixes and QoL improvements than I had originally expected, I was unable to begin working on New game+. However, following the release of Update 1.1.2, which will include additional QoL improvements and some adjustments to the final stages of the game, and which is scheduled for release next week, I will begin working on New Game+. Hopefully, this update will be available in mid-August.

    Hotfix 1.1.1b

    Bug fixes:

    • Once again, fixed issues where messages about earning or spending money got stuck or the HUD displayed the incorrect amount of money the player had. I hope these issues are now fixed for good.
    • Fixed an issue where the "Press 'E' to enter..." message sometimes appeared above certain menus;
    • Adjusted the 3D sound effect of lava to make it less loud and prevent "duplication" of sound.

    Today's update includes one important bug fix:

    Update 1.1.1

    Hey dieselminers!

    Update 1.1.1 took longer than I anticipated, but it's finally here. It includes a lot of changes (mostly to the interface), bug fixes and adds the Claustrophobia safe mode.

    Claustrophobia safe mode

    The Claustrophobia Safe Mode is designed for people who experience fear or discomfort due to limited visibility. This mode makes the dark space around the screen almost invisible. Additionally, it changes how darkness at level 4 works, so your visibility range is no longer limited by the surrounding darkness. However, to see ores and mines, you still need to use a direct scanner (flashlight).

    User Interface Improvements

    Added tooltips that display the name of items in the inventory menu. To view the tooltip, select an item or hover your mouse over it.
    Fuel scale has been expanded. Now it will display how much light energy you are getting when you have a Light energy converter installed, and how many seeds are draining fuel from your mech. Relevant indicators will appear in the HUD when you install a light energy converter or get hit by a seed from a chemotrophic plant.
    Added indicators for the availability of Automated emergency repair system, Automated refueller, and Automated thermal stabilizer in the inventory. These indicators will appear on the screen after you upgrade the Shop to the level where these items become available. These indicators will glow green if you have at least one of the relevant items in your inventory.
    Added an indicator to the altimeter to show exactly at what depth you are currently located; The terrain depth monitor now shows the depth at which you will hit the ground, even if it's red line is outside the altimeter's range.

    Bug fixes

    • Fixed an issue where messages about earning or spending money get stuck. Also fixed an issue where the current player's money was displayed incorrectly after buying something;
    • Fixed a bug where air flow around the falling mech stayed red even after the mech's speed had been decreased to a safe level. Now, the air flow only appears red when the fall damage at the current falling speed is fatal;
    • Fixed issues where S-tier upgrades couldn't sometimes be selected with a gamepad. Also fixed a bug that allowed S-tier upgrades to be bought with only 2 out of 3 required blueprints.
    • Navigation with a gamepad in the inventory menu now works correctly;
    • Fixed a problem where the cost of going to the surface using elevator platform sometimes would be shown with an incorrect discount;
    • Fixed an issue with ore and grass tiles on the first level not displaying correctly after returning to the surface with an evacuation beacon;
    • Fixed an issue with the Earthquake Precognition System displaying wrong time left until an earthquake after using explosives or a Seismic Charge;
    • Finally, all issues with simultaneous use of several items have been fixed. The system for their use has been reworked so you can now use several items simultaneously and there is no risk of using the wrong item or using one of them endlessly. WARNING: If you have assigned items to different buttons in the controls menu (e.g., "F" for the first item instead of "1"), those changes will be reset to the defaults.
    • An issue with mines on level 4 occasionally disappearing has also been fixed, although I was unable to reproduce this bug, so I am not entirely sure whether the changes really fixed it. Mines on old maps where the bug occurred won't appear again, unfortunately (or fortunately, for some players).

    Other changes

    • Backup saves will now automatically appear under the save slot when the game in this slot is completed;
    • The effect of explosives on the time until the next earthquake has been reduced by 50%;
    • Added an option to quit the game without saving. To do so, you will need to toggle this option when quitting the game;
    • The graphics of Propeller 6 have been cleaned;
    • Increased the amount of fuel obtained from each glowing plant using the Light energy converter by 25%.

    Open beta update - Ad Fundum is now available on Steam Deck in beta!

    Hey folks! Ad Fundum is finally playable on Steam Deck! It is currently in beta, so you may encounter some minor issues. However, based on the test results, it seems to be working fine. To play Ad Fundum on your Steam Deck, you need to join the open beta. To do so, select "Ad Fundum" from your library, then go to "Properties" > "Betas" > "Beta participation", and choose "Open Beta - Open beta for Steam Input Testing". Once I'm sure there are no issues with Steam Input, the game will be available to everyone. And if you join the beta, please let me know about any problems you encounter.

    Steam Input support status

    Hey, folks No patch notes for today, unfortunately, as I was trying to get Steam Input working for the entire day. It's now working in open beta, but there are a couple of catches: [olist]

  • For some reason, Steam Input might not work in the main menu at launch. You may have to use mouse or touchscreen (which should be working) to start the game;
  • I was unable to create official layouts for any controllers except for the DualSense controller. Steam did not allow me to create layouts for controllers that were not connected - I only own a DualSense. I am not sure if it is possible to use a layout for other controllers. I will address this issue sooner or later by asking my friends to create layouts or making some community layouts official (in this case, I will release a guide on how to create "developer intended" layout). For now, you may need to create your own controller layout. [/olist] Thus, I cannot recommend joining the beta at this time. However, if you still want to try the game despite the aforementioned issues, you can join the open beta. To do this, select "Ad Fundum" in your library, go to "Properties" -> "Betas" -> "Beta participation" and choose "Open beta - Open beta for Steam Input testing". P.S. With this post, I actually just wanted to let you know that I amworking on improving the game andfulfillingmy promiseregardingSteam Input.

    • The elevator now "remembers" the depth you selected last time.

    Update 1.0.5

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed issues with navigation in Inventory and Settings when using a controller or keyboard;
    • Made another attempt to fix the bug when an item will be used infinitely after pressing several item buttons at the same time. Now, you shouldn't be able to use an item while pressing a button to use another item.;
    • Fixed an issue where the mech would sometimes fall through the ground while mining. There may still be something else that could cause this, but the chance of it happening again has been reduced.
    Other changes:
    • Added separators to money amounts to make them easier to understand. For example, $1000000 will now be displayed as $1,000,000;
    • Added lamps to the "Special upgrades" button in the Mech Workshop menu. These lamps will be flickering upon entering Workshop menu when a new special upgrade is found, reducing the chance of forgetting about it until the end of the game :)
    Regarding Steam Input support: I am still working on it whenever I have time, but there were a lot of issues I had to deal with. Now, as I get fewer bug reports every day, I hope that I will be able to devote all my time to working on Steam Input. I believe that I need 1-2 days more to make a version ready for testing and 1 or 2 days for testing.

    • Elevator platforms and some other platforms are now correctly displayed on the altimeter when "Terrain depth monitor" is installed;
    • Fixed an issue where selected button wouldn't display for some time after opening menu when using controller;
    • Fixed a bug where the premonitions of secret frequencies would still appear even after finding the correspondingfrequencies;
    • Added more safety checks to prevent the situations where an item is still being used after you stop holding the relevant button. However, as I couldn't reproduce the issue, this problem may still persist.
    If you experience this issue, please send me the Player.log file. It contains console logs about your last play session, so I can see which parts of code are broken. Update 1.0.4

    Earthquake bugs:

    Fixed another bug related to the eternal earthquakes. This should put an end to the type of bugged earthquakes where the player experiencesendless screen shaking andis unableto visit buildings or savetheirgame. However, the type of earthquakes where the player would be unable to move might still be present. If you experience any bugs related to the unending earthquakes or other bugs that appear to be an issue even after reloading the game, please send your save file to one of these: 1. My email: tech-support@oldbut-gold.space (this is not actually some kind of a tech support email, it goes directly to me); 2. My Discord server: https://discord.gg/v3AaBWmyhq (create a new post in the bugs forum with your save file); 3. Or, to my DM on Discord. To do this, you will need to join my Discord server and send me a friend request (I usually accept such requests within a matter of minutes, if I'm not sleeping). Most of such bugs occur due to a combination of factors that are extremely difficult to replicate, even with a detailed description of the issue. Save files could greatly assist me in tracking down and fixing them. The save files are located in: Windows: C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\LocalLow\Oldbut Gold\Ad Fundum\Saves (the AppData folder is hidden, you may need to make it visible) Linux: $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/unity3d/Ad Fundum or $HOME/.config/unity3d/Ad Fundum Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Oldbut Gold/Ad Fundum

    Ad Fundum is finally released!

    The time has come, my friends!

    After years of hard work, passion and unhealthy perfectionism, Ad Fundum has finally been released! And the release is not the end of Ad Fundum's journey - it's a new chapter in its story!

    So what's next?

    1. Steam Input support

    My primary goals for the first week are to add Steam Input support so that Steam Deck owners can play the game to its full potential, and of course, to fix any bugs and address any issues that will inevitably arise during the first week after the release)

    2. QoL improvements

    Once Steam Input is added and bug fixing is done, I'll focus on some quality-of-life improvements that I couldn't implement before the release, such as buying 5 items at once in the shop, adding better structure to the Special Upgrades UI and so on.

    3. New Game+

    After QoL, I will focus on the New Game+, which will not just be an option to restart the game with current upgrades. I am planning to introduce some overpowered special upgrades that could drastically change the standard gameplay. It may take several weeks for New Game+ to be available in Ad Fundum, but it will be well worth the wait!

    4. Game's soundtrack

    Additionally, great news for those who enjoyed the music in Ad Fundum: the soundtrack will be released in 1-2 weeks!

    Hotfix 1.2.2a

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed a bug where the earthquake music would continue to play after loading the last save during an earthquake (thanks to the user Maximus for noticing);
    • Fixed a bug that caused the minimap to be activated when pressing the relevant button at the start of the game. The minimap was supposed to be available only after the player had upgraded the scanning tower at least once (thanks to the user Maximus for noticing).
    Other changes:
    • Made the marks on the altimeter scale thicker to reduce their twitchiness on high resolution screens;
    • Decreased the chances of stones spawning during an earthquake in neighboring positions at the same time.

    Update 1.2.2 Demo

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed a bug where several texts were not appearing in some translations;
    • Fixed an issue where reinforcement beams were not available in the item selector window for gamepads;
    • A bug has been fixed where ore piles were stuck in the ceiling when a rock hit a player in flight (thanks to user Maximus)
    Balance changes:
    • Stones falling during earthquakes have had their damage reduced from 25 to 20.
    Other changes:
    • Reinforcement beams are now visible on the minimap;
    • It is now easier to place multiple reinforcement beams while holding the relevant button.

    [ 2024-05-15 20:54:18 CET ] [ Original post ]

    Update 1.2.1

    This is a small update, but it brings a couple of cool new features: 1. Added a new item - Reinforcement Beams. Use them to protect your mines from destruction and stones from falling on your mech during an earthquake. However, they will not save you from the earthquake itself! (thanks to the user Marker for the suggestion) 2. You can now buy or use items multiple times by holding down the relevant button. Bug Fixes: 1. Fixed a bug where the radio did not give you a hint about whether you were close to finding a new radio wave or not.

    Update 1.2 Demo & Mac OS support

    Great news for Mac users - Mac OS support will be available upon release, and now you can already play the demo on your machines! Update 1.2 also brings important changes and fixes: 1. Added short version of tutorial - now you can play the beginning of the game without those irritating messages from Prometheus! 2. Reworked New games settings menu - there is beauty in the simplicity... until you want to customize the difficulty! 3. Stonefall during earthquakes has been reworked - now the number of stones falling is more justified, but on average, it's higher than before. 4. Consumable items have been reworked - the maximum amount of extra fuel tanks and repair kits in the inventory has been limited. To expand the limits, you'll need to upgrade the maintenance station. Otherwise, with 100 Extra fuel tanks in the bank the game is too simple, right? P.S. You can turn those limits off in the New game settings. Balance changes: 1. The prices of Extra fuel tanks and Repair kit have been doubled, but their effects have also been doubled. This was done mainly to avoid having to press the item button a hundred of times to refuel or repair your mech in the middle and late game. Now, you will only need to press it 50 times. :) 2. The costs of Maintenance station upgrades have been increased to reflect their new effects. Bug fixes: 1. Fixed a bug where the mech would get stuck in the air after dying due to running out of fuel; 2. Fixed an issue with radiowave selector not working properlu; 3. Fixed a bug that caused vault compeltion trigger to be activated too eartly; 4. Fixed a bug where the player entered the shop long after pressing the corresponding button.

    Hotfix 1.1.1b Demo

    Bug fixes:

    • Finally fixed a bug that caused mech upgrades to reset to default after reloading the game (thanks to the users Maximus and SandBag for their help in tracking down the bug)
    • Fixed an issue with elevator ropes being rendered above the elevator itself

    [ 2024-04-20 09:46:44 CET ] [ Original post ]

    Hotfix 1.1.1a Demo

    Bug fixes:

    • Fixed a bug with an earthquake ending too early when the player returns to the base (thanks to the user SandBag for noticing);
    • Fixed a bug with the cargo storage being displayed as empty after loading the game, even though the player has ore in storage (thanks to the user SandBag for noticing)

    [ 2024-04-18 12:48:31 CET ] [ Original post ]

    Update 1.1.1 Demo

    Bug fixes: Fixed a bug that caused the "Damage sources" setting to change from "Reduced amount" to "None" after loading the game on the Meditating difficulty preset; Falling from a great height near the left and right sides of the map now deals damage (thanks to the user Maximus for noticing); Empty spaces in the vault will are now displayed correctly on the minimap; Bug with mech upgrades resetting to default after loading save and game crashing after refuelling when you don't have enough money must be fixed by now. However, I was unable to reproduce both of these bugs on my end, so they may still persist (thanks to the users BraveKitten, Maximus and ShadowStepCat for reporting these bugs) Balance changes: Fuel consumption and maximum speed of Jet thrusters 1 and 2 have been increased slightly; Added a cash bonus for finding all the treasures; New resources added during map regeneration after an earthquake will now be scattered around the map rather than generated near the borders in huge clusters. Other changes: Nominal values related to fuel have been decreased by 10 times. This means that although the basic mech fuel tank now has a capacity of 50 L, fuel consumption has also been decreased 10-fold, and you have the same amount of time to mine as before the update. The fuel price has been increased accordingly. Overall, this does not change the balance; it simply makes values more realistic and more in line with the lore (thanks to the user SandBag for pointing out that fuel values are unrealistically high) Physics for the mech movement have been slightly changed to make the mech easier to control and slightly improve game's performance

    Update 1.1 Demo has finally arrived - Custom difficulty and more!

    Custom difficulty

    The most significant change that it includes is Custom difficulty. Now, when starting a new game, you can configure various aspects of the game to create the best suited experience for you! Don't like the fact that your mines are destroyed after each earthquake? No problem! You can now disable map regeneration. Want to relax without worrying about fuel and damage? Change the settings, and no more dying from running out of fuel or crashing onto the surface! If you would like more options for custom difficulty, let me know in the Discussion section or on my Discord server!

    Cancel mining

    Another addition is the ability to cancel mining process. No longer will you need to watch as your mech digs gold only to throw it away because the cargo storage is full! You can hold the movement button in the opposite direction to the mining, and if you do this before you mined 50% of a tile, your mech will stop mining and return to the starting point.

    Special upgrades rebalance

    The last change is about special upgrades. From now on, finding a special upgrade won't give you money, but it will only unlock that upgrade in the Mech workshop building. However, if you find the second instance of the same upgrade, you'll get 50% off the price of that upgrade.

    Bug fixes

    The update also contains a number of bug fixes: [olist]
  • Fixed a bug with fuel consuming too slowly when difficulty option "Fuel drain" is on (thanks to the user SandBag for noticing);
  • Treasure names in the Collections menu are now displayed correctly;
  • Fixed an issue with the description of Thermal stabilizer not appearing in English (thanks to the user Lancerichy for noticing);
  • Fixed an issue with some texts not appearing in the Inventory menu in Spanish and Japanese (thanks to the user MPV070 for noticing);
  • Resource piles found during an earthquake will now not be collected if the option "Mine ore when the storage tank is full" is off and, well, the storage tank is full. [/olist] P.S. Actually, the update was released yesterday. However, I was so tired from working on it that I fell asleep before finishing this post. Sorry for keeping you waiting)

    Change of the expected release date

    Dear Players, I regret to inform you that the release of Ad Fundum, originally scheduled for March 2024, has been postponed to Q2 2024. As the developer, I'm committed to delivering the best possible gaming experience, and unforeseen challenges have necessitated this delay. I estimate the new release date for the game to be in mid-April 2024. However, this is not the first time that I have evaluated the time required for finishing the game incorrectly. This is why the new release date is so uncertain. The specific release date will be announced 2-4 weeks prior to the release of the game. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. Rest assured, this extra time will be dedicated to ensuring the game meets and exceeds your expectations. Thank you for your continued support.

    The Great War is over, and the Age of Diesel has come. While many believe this is an era of harmony and prosperity, you know that peace is more fragile than ever. You embark on a journey into the depths of Earth to find the means to avert future conflict. But what awaits you in the darkness below? Is it a boon or doom for humanity?

    Take control of a colossal mech, capable of drilling through hundreds of meters of rock in a matter of seconds. Collect valuable resources, then fly back to your base to sell minerals for immense profit. Keep a close eye on your control panel: in a dangerous environment, your mech may overheat or overcool, and, most importantly, it doesn’t run on air – it needs fuel to operate. And beware of falling stones - your machine's hull won't withstand too much damage.

    Rebuild your base

    Your base has seen better days, but with enough amount of money you will restore it to its former glory and beyond to enhance your mining performance and unlock special abilities.

    Upgrade your gear

    Upgrade every part of your mech individually to transform an outdated prototype into a technological marvel. Experiment with different builds to create the ultimate mining machine best suited for your playstyle.

    Find hidden secrets

    Discover artifacts to unravel the history of the first human civilization on Earth, or search for the remnants of the previous underground expedition to unlock special upgrades with unique effects for your mech.

    Explore 8 diverse locations

    The deeper you go, the more locations you will discover. Each has its own visual style, atmosphere, gameplay mechanics, and threats to deal with.

    Survive earthquakes

    The ground you dig does not stand still – it shifts, changing its terrain. An earthquake is a dangerous time to collect resources, but when it’s raining minerals, how can you resist not grabbing some ore?

    Other features

    • Procedurally generated world: each run will be unique!
    • Original soundtrack: every location in the game has its own music and atmosphere.
    • Several difficulty levels: whether you seek a challenge, want to relax, or aim for a balanced experience, you'll find a suitable difficulty.
    • Several story endings: can you unlock them all?
