Update 1.1 "Retro Ridgeclimb" Live

Heya everyone, Steam Spring Sale has just started, and with the start of the sale, I've also released the first major update to Ronny's Climb which you can play right now! Update 1.1 named "Retro Ridgeclimb" comes with a new secret stage complete with new achievements to unlock, as well as customizable keybindings, support for Steam Deck and other exciting changes. Find the full patch notes below. As always, thanks a bunch for your support following the release of Ronny's Climb. It's been an exciting time. If you own a Steam Deck, I'd really appreciate if you could try and run the game on it and give me feedback in case something isn't working.

Unlocking "Retro Ridgeclimb"


Similar to "Balloon Bonanza", the new stage is a secret level as well and you'll need a code to unlock it first. Here are some hints for finding it: Hint 1: [spoiler]The code for "Retro Ridgeclimb" is hidden in stage 3.[/spoiler] Hint 2: [spoiler]To find the code, you'll have to climb the very top of the desolate tower at the end of stage 3. Ronny&#039;s Climb now supports Steam Cloud

Heya everyone, I have just activated Steam Cloud saves for Ronny's Climb. If everything went well, you shouldn't see any immediate impactall your savegames and options should hopefully still be there, and now they will also be synched over multiple devices!

A word on the Steam Deck


Ronny's Climb doesn't officially support the Steam Deck at the moment (mainly as I don't own a Steam Deck myself, so testing for it is difficult). Also, Ronny's Climb is a small game and Valve doesn't allow me yet to even apply for the 'Steam Deck Verified' badge. That being said, apparently the game runs fine on the Steam Deck as is, using Proton for compatibility. Some players have reported graphics bugs in the menu or Steam achievements not working as intended though. In order to fix these issues and to provide actual Steam Deck support, I will add a dedicated Linux and Steam Deck build soon. However, I don't exactly know how the savegames interact between the Proton emulation and an actual Linux/SteamOS build. While I said I don't really support the Steam Deck yet, I also don't want anyone who has played Ronny's Climb on it to lose their save file. Hence, what I recommend is that if you have been playing exclusively on the Steam Deck and if you want to avoid risking your save file, that you run the game once in the next few days to ensure Steam uploads your save to the Steam Cloud. Once I provide a dedicated build for the Steam Deck, I hope Valve's Steam Cloud feature will take care of everything. Should you ever lose your save file due to issues with the newly activated Steam Cloud feature or during the transition from Proton emulation over to the Linux/SteamOS build, please contact me and I will help you restore your progress to the best of my ability. Update 1.0.9 - More Dialog Improvements

  • New option: "Fast Textboxes". Setting this option to ON will cause dialog text to appear instantaneously.
  • Even without "Fast Textboxes" activated, text will now appear slightly faster.
  • Vsync being turned on is now the default option.
  • Added a small tutorial box for balloon riding which telegraphs that pressing up/down will cause the player to accelerate and decelerate.
  • Defeated enemies will now drop from the screen faster.

Update 1.0.8 - Skippable Dialogs

  • Added a way to skip dialog so that players who are speedrunning or replay levels for badges don't need to sit through mandatory conversations. Use for keyboard and for Controller to skip the current dialog immediately.
  • Made the credits scene more beautiful with some animations (if you have seen the credits before, you can replay them by beating the finale again using the 'Continue' option instead of 'Stage Select')
  • Jumping on bats in the finale will now always propel the player highly whether they hold the jump button or not. This should support players who are not aware that holding jump while jumping on monsters will cause them to jump higher.
  • Fixed some broken backgrounds in the finale
  • Added another mention in the credits

  • Made it slightly easier to achieve the par times in some of the later stages
  • Inserting the moonstone now spawns a teleporter to reduce backtracking
  • Added a health bar for the final confrontation

Release Date Announcement

Improved Ladder Mechanics - Update 0.8.2

Heya! This is just a teeny-tiny update adding a small gameplay improvement which has been requested: Being able to dash while holding on to a ladder. While this is only a small update for the demo, the full game is now in the final stretches of development. Expect a release date announcement very soon! Changes in 0.8.2:

Bonus Stage available to everyone! - Update 0.8.1

Hey everyone! A new update to the Ronny's Climb Demo just dropped which made the previously secret bonus stage available to everyone! Again, this "bonus" stage is a complete level with new mechanics, 100 gems to collect, and new achievements to unlock! The demo stage will automatically start after the official end of the demo. If you have already completed the demo previously, you'll find the demo in the stage selection screen. There are also a few other changes as part of this update. Here is the full list:

  • The bonus stage is now available to everyone! It will start automatically after the previous end of the demo. If you have already finished the demo, you'll find the bonus stage in the stage selection menu.
  • Overview screen now includes progress on the bonus stage.
  • Modified and added dialog relating to the end of the demo.
  • Reduced the par time for stage 1 to make it slightly more challenging.
  • Adapted the screen shake effects to make them less visually taxing for some players.
  • Made stalagtites easier to dodge.
  • Added a badge graphic to the stage selection UI.
  • Added 'additional thanks' section to the credits.
  • Fixed a sound bug when stalagtites hit the ground.

Secret Bonus Stage! - Update 0.7.1

Hey everyone! I just released an update to the Ronny's Climb Demo, which includes the secret demo stage I've teased before. Im calling it a "bonus" stage because its not part of the main storyline, but really, its a complete level with new mechanics, 100 gems to collect, and new achievements to unlock! As previously announced, this demo stage will be exclusive to a few selected creators and subscribers of the fan club for a short while. So, keep an eye out for Ronny's Climb streams or subscribe to the mailing list if you want to play it right now! Everyone else will get to play it around the beginning of December. Heres the full list of changes:

  • Added a secret bonus stage; subscribe to ronnys-climb.com for hints on how to gain access.
  • Changed and shortened the end-of-demo dialogue.
  • Made a minor adaptation to Stage 3.

End of Steam Next Fest and Update 0.6.8

Heya all! Steam Next Fest is over, and I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for the overwhelming support during the event. I'm blown away by how many of you have wishlisted, played, streamed, and reviewed Ronny's Climb. You all made this week an absolute joy, and I can't wait for the full release next year! So, whats next? First of all, the demo of Ronny's Climb will remain available at least until the full version launches, and Ill continue to support it with updates. Even better, in November, Ill be adding a full bonus stage to the demo! Itll be exclusive at first to a few selected creators and subscribers of the fan club (if youre not subscribed yet, you can sign up here ^-^). Later on, Ill make it available for everyone. In the meantime, heres update 0.6.8, which adds a little extra content and fixes several bugs and annoyances discovered during Steam Next Fest:

  • Adjusted various sections in all stages to remove sources of frustration, like gems becoming unreachable after moving stone blocks and Ronny sometimes being unable to backtrack to earlier areas.
  • Added NPCs with new dialogue to Stage 3.
  • Enabled chaining multiple dashes in quick succession.
  • Increased the speed at which Ronny pushes stone blocks.
  • Made movement on slopes more fluent.
  • Tweaked dash behavior to prevent Ronny from barely getting stuck on ledges while dashing.
  • Improved contrast and visuals in dark cave sections.
  • Fixed a visual bug that occurred while pushing stone blocks.
  • Fixed a bug where restarting Stage 3 would load Stage 1 instead.
  • Fixed an issue where sounds would temporarily no longer play in stage 3.

Update 0.6.4 and News regarding Steam Next Fest

Heya everyone, Hope you're all having a wonderful day. I have just pushed another update for the demo of Ronny's Climb, but before we go into the changes, some words about Steam Next Fest: As you might or might not know, Ronny's Climb is participating in Steam Next Fest October which starts... tomorrow! If you like Ronny's Climb and want to support the development of the game, now is the time. Tell your friends and family. Wishlist the game if you haven't done so yet. Or leave a review if you're feeling particularly kind. Everything helps to get word of the game out there. There's also a small teaser I have in store for you: I have decided to expand the scope of the demo by adding a bonus stage. That's right, another full stage for you to play even before the game releases! It will unlock with a future update coming soonish. Members of the Fan Club will be the first to know, so if you want to be among those people, this might be a good time to subscribe - it's free! Finally, here is the change log for update 0.6.4:

  • Reaching a checkpoint now restores all missing hearts.
  • Dashing is now also possible using the SHIFT key.
  • Added some new sounds.
  • Just barely not reaching a ledge will now give the player a tiny push to help them make the jump.
  • Reworked some sections where the player could barely not reach a life-saving platform after falling into a spike pit.
  • Improved visuals for moving platforms and fixed jittering.
  • Fixed a bug where flickering could occur during the death animation.

Ronny&#039;s Climb Demo - Update 0.6.0

While most of the changes are technical improvements under the hood (please report bugs to me if you find any), I also added the possibility to reset your save file in the options menu. If you'd like to start a new game from scratch, without having any of the unlocked abilities, you can now do so.

Ronny&#039;s Climb Demo - Update 0.5.1

Heya, Zephyrix here! I want to give a big thank you to the whole community around Ronny's Climb. The days leading up to and the week following the release of the demo have been an absolute blast! From streamers covering the game to people doing speedruns and uploading them to YouTube, it was incredibly fun to watch you play my game and you were all very kind and helpful with feedback. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who streamed, reviewed, wishlisted, or simply played Ronny's Climb. Here are a few changes and fixes I just pushed for update 0.5.1:

  • Improved long jump behaviour after stomping enemies
  • Added atmospheric sounds to Treetop Trails
  • Added some new and missing credits entries
  • Fixed cause of accidentially triggering the ground pound when using the analog stick
  • Fixed window size resetting after returning to main menu
  • Fixed sounds sometimes playing incorrectly after leaving or restarting a stage
  • Fixed a bug causing invincibility after finishing the initial demo playthrough

Demo Announcement

Hello folks, Zephyrix here! A short post but with big news: The demo of Ronny's Climb is almost ready and will be released on September 30th! Ronny's Climb will also be participating in Steam Next Fest in October, so keep an eye out for it and be sure to tell your friends! To help shorten the wait, Ive prepared a surprise: On www.ronnys-climb.com you can join the fan club (aka mailing list). By subscribing, you'll receive a handwritten digital developer diary and get access to a sneak preview of the Ronny's Climb Soundtrack. This mailing list is also the best way to stay up-to-date with Ronny's Climb (and potential future releases!). Ill be sharing updates there first, and I have other freebies planned for the future, which I will also distribute through the mailing list. Last but not least, Ive decided to shift the planned release of the full game by a month to January 2025. This change will give me enough time to finish the game and support it after the release without the interference of Christmas and New Year's celebrations. Roadmap and Demo Release

Hello folks, Zephyrix here! Since February, the Steam page for Ronny's Climb has been live, and believe it or not, Ive been working on this game for over a yearthe earliest code dates back all the way to April 2023. So far, I have been rather quiet about its development. But thats about to change. ^-^ Over the past few months, Ive made significant progress on Ronny's Climb, leading up to an internal demo that's currently in playtesting. This is all in preparation for an official public demo. Initially, I aimed to release this demo in time for Steam Next Fest in October, and it looks like Im on track to meet that goal. As we get closer to the demo release, Next Fest, and the full launch, Ill be sharing more updates and doing my best to spread the word about Ronny's Climb. In the coming weeks, Ill be incorporating feedback from the playtesting phase, focusing on bug fixes, gameplay enhancements, and continuing to refine level and narrative design. The result will be a public demo, which I plan to release in September. I dont have an exact date yet, but Ill keep you posted. In the meantime, if youre excited about Ronny's Climb and want to support its success, there are several ways you can help. Pixel art platformers like Ronny's Climb have become something of a meme in the game development community as it is widely known that it's an oversaturated and rather unpopular genre on Steam. Thats why getting the word out is crucial. Tell your friends about the game, share it on social media, and link to the Steam page. Please consider adding it to your wishlist, and when the time comes, buying the game and leaving a review would mean the world to me and help me continue improving it. As for the full release: Unfortunately, I dont have a firm date yet. Im still aiming for a 2024 release, but time is flying, and theres no slowing it down. A significant portion of the second half of the game is still unfinished. However, most of the key features are fully implemented, so its not as daunting as it might seem. There's still levels to design, features to refine, and dialogue to write. Theres a possibility that 2024 might come and go without the release of Ronny's Climb, but its too early to say for sure. If that seems likely, Ill let you know. In the meantime, Im working hard to make a December 2024 release possible. Thanks so much for reading and for your continued support.
