Cook, Serve, Delicious! is coming to PS4, PS5 and Xbox One/Series S/X Soon!

Hey y'all! I'm excited to announce that the Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X versions of Cook, Serve, Delicious! are coming February 28th, and the PS4 and PS5 versions will be following that later this Spring! (The Nintendo Switch version is available now!)

Originally I figured that Cook, Serve, Delicious: Re-Mustard! would essentially be the first game's debut onto consoles, but having that strange gap of the first game not being alongside CSD 2 and CSD 3 had a lot of people wondering if it was de-listed or what exactly happened to the first game. I was actually inspired by the Steamworld Dig devs releasing Steamworld Dig 2 on Switch, only to release the first game months later- I was a bit confused as to why they opted to do that, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense to be able to welcome new players with a more optimal starting point.

I thought I'd go over some of the small changes I was able to make with these new releases, specifically tied to Achievements.

Achievement/Trophy Changes

When I originally made Achievements for Steam it came at an era where I think a lot of devs were still trying to figure out what Achievements would actually be- should they be extremely difficult, so that players would feel that much more rewarded upon gaining them? Or should they be easier to get to fully maximize the 100% completion rate?

I fell more on the side of challenging, though once the PS3 introduced the concept of Platinum trophies my stance shifted a bit more- it was fun going for the Platinums, though that means just one single hard/impossible trophy could potentially run Platinum runs for players.

So with this release I kept most of the original Steam achievements for Xbox and PlayStation, changed some and removed others to make this a much more achievable 100%! Note that this is only for the console versions- the Steam Achievements will not be altered, as it wouldn't be fair to change them for players that have already earned them.

Removed/Altered Achievements for Consoles

The Love Chef (Date the entire pool of people from Cook4Luv) / ClicknStart Investor (successfully funded all ClicknStart projects) - I think the email based achievements can be a bit too easy to miss, and if you do, you basically have to wait for the game to loop back after "beating" the game. The Love Chef specifically has an issue where if your restaurant is too full your date may not be able to stop by at all.

Why wasn't this fixed for consoles? Well, to be honest, this one bug is tied completely into the delivery system and messing with the code now would have the potential to cause a cascading amount of bugs. I'm rewriting the entire game for Re-Mustard so that the order system won't run into these kinds of issues.

15k Customers Served - This one had one of the lowest clear rates for Steam, and you have to play a considerable amount more after completing the game. This felt like too much of a grind, so it was ultimately axed.

All Food Pins - I dialed this down from 1,500 to 1,000 for all pins for a faster clear rate.

The VIP Treatment (serve a VIP guest) / Quick Challenge (Complete the Quick Challenge in Battle Kitchen) - You're only allowed a certain number of points for both Xbox and PlayStation achievement lists, and I was running out of allotted space, so these two felt like the easiest to cut since they are extremely easy to achieve. Quick Challenge has been cut from the consoles as that mode was actually just the Weekly Challenge from Steam that was discontinued back in 2017 or so with a static challenge that hasn't changed.

When It's Ready (Read a peculiar email) - This is an interesting one, in that this meant to tease what our next big game was at the time of making CSD 1- it was going to be a city builder of sorts, but we ultimately made CSD 2 instead and used the city builder assets for CSD 3's backgrounds. The email is still intact for consoles, but I didn't want to call any attention to it since it's a very outdated teaser. But hey, who knows, maybe we'll revisit the concept someday...

PS4 and PS5 Versions Coming Soon!

We're aiming to release the PS4 and PS5 version of Cook, Serve, Delicious! in April (we're going through the cert process now!). Along with this we're also releasing (for the first time) PS5 versions of Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! and Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! so that our trilogy will remain forward compatible for the years to come. This will feature some neat PS5 extras like an Activity card that lets you jump right into the game. I'm really looking forward to designing games that utilize more of the PS5's feature set in the future. You won't be able to transfer PS4 saves to the new PS5 versions as the game is a completely new build, but we do plan on releasing to PS4/PS5 simultaneously for games going forward.

It's been fun revisiting my old code and getting it back into shape for consoles, and makes me that much more excited to design Cook, Serve, Delicious: Re-Mustard! Thanks everyone for all of the support over the years, and here's to many more cooking adventures to come!

A MASSIVE Cook, Serve, Delicious Announcement Buffet!

What a great day for some Delicious announcements. Can you believe it's been over ten years since Cook, Serve, Delicious! launched on Steam? Since then this little franchise has spawned numerous sequels and has millions of players all over the world. It's been humbling to see our little game grow in ways we never imagined.

As we released more sequels to CSD I always felt the first game was its own unique adventure that still holds up today. I've been wanting to go back and really explore the first game in a way that I've never been able to before, and today I want to show what we've been cookin' and what's to come!

Cook, Serve, Delicious: Re-Mustard!

That's right y'all, the original Cook, Serve, Delicious! is getting an all new remake in 2024!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2139040/Cook_Serve_Delicious_ReMustard/

Originally I thought it would just be a simple update to the original, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to make this a much larger game. You can read more about the new features on the Steam page (be sure to wishlist it!!) but we plan on adding new modes, new features, more foods, a new campaign, but still retaining the same classic gameplay as the first game. For those who want to shake things up a bit, we also plan on adding an all new Typing mode that tests your Ingredients-Per-Minute! Look forward to more details in the months to come!

Cook, Serve, Delicious! Gets a PC Update!

Today we're releasing a new patch for Cook, Serve, Delicious! on Steam! This all new update adds Steam Deck support that is currently going through the Steam Deck Verify process, as well as adding some quality of life features such as volume controls, replacing the Wii U gamepad with the Switch Pro gamepad, updating the code to the latest version of Game Maker Studio to ensure forward compatibility (as well as adding support for the latest Mac OSes), fixed some longstanding crash bugs, updated some graphical UI elements, and more!

More Platforms!

For the first time ever, Cook, Serve, Delicious! is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox later this year! It always felt odd to have CSD 2 and 3 on consoles but not the original, and this was something that I always wanted to do and the time seemed right to do it. This is a great way to enjoy a classic before the all new remake comes out next year, so be sure to grab it on your platform of choice!

And More CSD Related Goodness!

In case you missed it, Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! and 3?! got their own updates to be Steam Deck Verified over the summer, so be sure to grab those on the deck! Speaking of which, all the CSD games are currently on sale to celebrate this trove of announcements, so why not pick up a few to complete your collection?

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/32041/The_Cook_Serve_Series_Bundle/

We're also releasing a major update to Cook Serve Forever next month, our chill narrative spinoff game that we aim to release in 1.0 early to mid next year!

The Future is Delicious!

I'm excited to be diving back into the Cook, Serve, Delicious! series again- we have lots of news to share in the months to come so be sure to follow us everywhere, including our new Threads account!

Thanks y'all and here's to another decade of fun, Delicious gaming!

Cook, Serve, Delicious! in SimFest!

Our friends at Auroch Digital and Stray Fawn Studio have put together a festival celebrating simulation games on Steam, and the OG Cook, Serve, Delicious! got the invite!

In celebration, we're pleased to share that both verified status on Steam Deck as well as a limited-time demo are currently being reviewed for release by Steam and we expect both to arrive imminently. Steam Deck verification is something we've been working to get for all our Cook Serve games (currently CSD2 and CSD3 are verified, while CSD and CSF are playable); and after dusting off the original CSD code even further, we're excited to be able to offer a demo for folks that might be new to the series, along with anyone that's been on the fence, or those looking for insight on how the game plays before they make their purchase.

The incoming CSD patch will also include a number of small fixes and quality of life improvements (such as volume sliders for music and SFX), as well as porting the game to the newest version of Game Maker Studio, which will also bring a new Mac version for newer OSes that have previously been unable to play the game. Look for details very soon!

Starting today and continuing on through the festival and the rest of July, we'll be detailing everything else we currently have in store for the the original CSD and the entire Cook Serve franchise -- including news on future updates, platform releases, and more. To stay current with all Vertigo Gaming Inc. updates now and down the road, check out our newsletter and Discord. The next week in particular is going to be a flurry!

End of Year Surprises!

Hey Chefs!

The year of Cook Serve Forever is almost here! We hope youve had a fantastic 2022, and to cap it off weve got some special holiday gifts for you.

Holiday Gift #1:
Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! was our teams first foray into proper storytelling in a game. While were very proud of the story we told, its integration into the gameplay meant that only players determined enough to play all the way through the 45+ hour game actually got to experience it. In the indie game industry, we call that a real bummer.

So, for this holiday season, we have compiled every cutscene and moment of in-game story dialog from CSD3 into a single 27-minute-long movie on YouTube. Check it out right here, complete with chapters for easy navigation:

Holiday Gift #2
We have some big stuff to announce about Cook Serve Forever soon but in the meantime heres a little tease of the first campaign menu from the game:

Ahh yeah that looks slick and worth adding to your wishlist!

But hey, who says this holiday gift has to be limited to one image? We'd like to also formally reveal the Cook Serve Forever box art!

Holiday Gift #3

Were discounting our games across all platforms for the holiday season! This is a great time to finish your collection or pick up a gift for a friend!

Cook, Serve, Delicious! v3.20- The Steam Controller Update!

Hooray, it's finally here! With the launch of this crazy awesome thing I've added several new features to CSD to support the official Steam Controller. I've also added a few additional features for all gamepad players. Enjoy! (Windows and Linux patches are live now; for the Mac patch, see notes below.)

NEW ADDITIONS

  • Steam Controller support has been added! You can now select it from the all new gamepad quick select main menu, or through the options menu.
  • An official preset has been added for the Steam Controller. It will be auto selected when starting up the game with a Steam Controller. You can also select it manually by choosing "Official CSD Preset" in the Configure Controller menu.
  • A guide on how to best use the Steam Controller for CSD has been created. View it in the official Steam Guides section for CSD.
  • DualShock 3 (PS3 controller) button mapping support has been added.
  • An all new gamepad quick-select menu has been added at the start of the game that allows you to quickly choose your controller.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a few bugs regarding Wii U Pro button mapping.
  • Fixed a few bugs for previous controller mappings for certain situations (mainly multiplayer).

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MAC OWNERS

Due to the new changes in the Mac OS system in regards to running apps outside of the official Apple App Store, the state of exporting to Mac via Game Maker Studio (the engine we use) is in a bit of a disarray right now. I've spent the last few weeks trying to find solutions but unfortunately it's a huge mess right now, and completely out of my hands.

What this all means is that from now on all patches are opt-in only for Mac users. You will need to right click on Cook, Serve, Delicious in your Steam Library, select Properties, and click the Betas tab and select the Mac Patch beta branch. Once you do so and download the new game, try running it. You will be informed that the game is an app from the internet, so press OK/accept to run it. Try running it again if it does not load. You may need to run it a few times before the game starts up, at which point you shouldn't have any further problems when running the game. I realize this is a less than ideal situation but just last week I was faced with the possibility of not being able to patch the Mac version anymore, and that's completely unacceptable to me. So this is how it'll have to be. Remember, just keep trying to run the game and eventually it will go through, and you shouldn't have any more errors forever after that, or at least that's been my experience. I will update with more info if Game Maker Studio or Apple's new App process is sorted and fixed.

Cook, Serve, Delicious v3.17 Update

Hey who's ready for an all new update? This patch fixes a few bugs and adds some requested features, including a new track for CSD soundtrack owners! Woo!

NEW ADDITIONS

  • You can now select different Fish recipes in practice mode if you have upgraded to three stars or higher.
  • Alternate metrics added in the Statistics menu for Food Volume.
  • In the Practice Chores mode, robberies are now delivered to Prep Station 2 so you can practice them exclusively w/o having to practice all the chores first.
  • Added a CSD 2 teaser email.

NEW ADDITIONS (CSD Soundtrack DLC)

  • The Tutorial track has been added in FLAC and MP3 formats for users who have purchased the CSD Soundtrack DLC. For details on how to access your soundtrack, visit the main store page.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug that would cause the game to display error messages when going to the main menu, as well as glitching Weekly Challenges.
  • Fixed bug that would allow hash browns to contribute to daily income in practice mode.
  • Changed Laci's VIP requests in order to hopefully fix the bug where she wouldn't visit your restaurant, even with the proper foods on the menu.
  • Fixed bug that prevented the last two recipes of Nachos to be practiced in Practice Mode.
  • Fixed small email glitch that displayed the wrong name for a few male dates for Cook4Luv.

IMPROVEMENTS/BUG FIXES

CSD: Battle Kitchen Update- Mystery Box Mode, Wii U Pro support and more!

Hey everyone, the newest update for CSD has arrived! This includes a bunch of new additions and features, as well as fixing a few minor bugs. Thanks and enjoy the free update!

NEW ADDITIONS

  • Mystery Box Mode (1-4 players, Battle Kitchen) For the first time in the game, all 30 foods will be in play in this challenge. The catch: all orders will be in secret mystery boxes until they're selected. How far can you go in this crazy challenge?
  • Weekly Sprint Challenges are now supported! These small bite sized challenges are 3 waves long (24 foods) as opposed to the standard weekly challenges (40 foods). There can be a mix of sprints and standard challenges from now on. Enjoy!
  • Wii U Pro Controller support added for the Mayflash Wii U adaptor for PC or any other third party system that allows for Wii U Pro Controller support.
  • Crazy Dave Bet emails now have text that explains the bet offer has expired if it isn't taken on the day it's recieved.
  • The Enchilada tutorial text has been clarified a bit better.

BUG FIXES

  • Adjusted system that deploys VIPs and dates. Originally if you had a high buzz restaurant, there was a chance that your VIP or date would not be "fit" into the order system, resulting in a "missed" date or VIP. That system has been tightened considerablly to try and prevent this from happening.
  • Crazy Dave's Bet 17 now properly resets if won, preventing the "bet not taken" error messages and errors related to bets.
  • Fixed a small menu display error in the Battle Kitchen menus when using a controller under certain circumstances.
  • Endurance runs ending due to food burning now properly reset when immediately retrying the event.
  • Updated Vertigo Gaming Inc. logo across the game.
  • Renamed Characters to Local Co-op in the main menu.
  • Fixed some minor errors with button images when two different controllers are used in the Battle Kitchen.

CSD: Battle Kitchen Beta v3.15 Now Available

Hey everybody, here's the latest Cook, Serve, Delicious update, going into beta for PC today!

This new release contains an all new mode, the Mystery Box, as well as some user requested features and bug fixes. As with all betas, if you decide to opt in, please back up your saves! For information on where to find your saves, visit this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247020/discussions/0/864980153147332444/

To opt into this beta (Windows only) you'll need to right click Cook, Serve, Delicious in your library, click properties, select the Beta tab and click the Beta branch from the pull down menu.

Here's a list of what's fixed and new in this update:

NEW ADDITIONS

  • Mystery Box Mode (1-4 players, Battle Kitchen) For the first time in the game, all 30 foods will be in play in this challenge. The catch: all orders will be in secret mystery boxes until they're selected. How far can you go in this crazy challenge?
  • Added an option to enable support for touchscreens and tablet PCs. This will get rid of the "double tap" method of input that had to be done for touchscreen users. To enable, load a game and go to the main options screen, select Keyboard/Tablet Options and then enable the option in the following menu.

CSD: Battle Kitchen v3.12 Update

Hey, who's ready for ESPORTS? Cause I got a brand new mode for you in this new update for CSD: Battle Kitchen!

When I first announced the new Battle Kitchen update the idea was that I'd have an eSports mode which would generally be another challenge type event with five foods and random recipes, like the strike challenges. However I was quite surprised with how popular the endurance mode was, so much so that I thought I'd just merge the eSports challenge idea into a brand new endurance event.

I hope you enjoy the event and the final part of the Battle Kitchen update (which includes Versus modes for multiplayer) should hit in January. Thanks and happy ESPORTS!

BUG FIXES 3.12

  • Fixed an issue that caused burgers and corndogs to sometimes disappear from your menu even if they've been purchased. Burgers that have been upgraded at least once will be returned to your menu, otherwise burgers and corndogs lost to this bug will need to be repurchased one last time. My apologies for that issue.
  • Fixed an email that referred to some old gameplay modes that have since been replaced with the Battle Kitchen.
  • Fixed minor spelling issues.

BUG FIXES 3.11

  • Fixed an issue that didn't properly reset Risotto calls when retrying an Endurance challenge (both regular and eSports)
  • Fixed bug that would sometimes improperly halt Endurance challenges at the start with a failed "food burned" message.
  • Fixed chef Risotto's calls not coming through properly when the prep stations are full. As a result, some players never got another Risotto call during the initial one for the eSports challenge. Because of this the eSports board has been reset and can only be used with this newest patch. My apologies for the glitch. Do note that your new score for the eSports challenge will go through to the Steam leaderboards, even if you do not beat your old local score.
  • Halved the amount of time the Risotto call is on screen after the player chooses an option.

BUG FIXES 3.10a

  • Fixed a corrupted graphics package that went out with 3.10. The burger's lettuce image is no longer a series of PlayStation button images.

NEW CONTENT

  • eSports Endurance Mode (1-4 players): the new eSports challenge for CSD is finally here! eSports Endurance takes the standard Endurance challenge, changes the four starter foods (which are now Soda, Sushi, Pasta and Ice Cream) and increases the "replacement pool" with hard foods across the board, as well as upping the difficulty at the start at a considerable degree. Good luck!

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug that slowed the first three orders of every Weekly Challenge before adjusting to a fast speed. Orders will now move quickly after the first one.
  • Fixed minor UI elements with Endurance menus.
  • Fixed bug in Endurance where the player was asked to replace a food with the exact same food in the Risotto call.
  • Adjusted leaderboard displays for the removal of avatars. While I hope to bring this back in the future, right now it's causing way too many issues for users so unfortunately they are disabled for now.

CSD: Battle Kitchen v3.04b Update

Update: v3.04b is available now and fixes a few minor issues:

BUG FIXES

  • (3.04b) Adds developer option to disable handling of avatars remotely. Apologies for all the updates recently but these last few have been critical bugs or additions that the game needs in order to perform properly. Thanks!
  • (3.04a) Fixes a bug that skips half of the tutorial for new players.
  • Performance improvements for booting up the game have been improved for a few users who had issues playing offline.
  • Avatars no longer reset or show up blank after certain instances, such as quitting an event.
  • A few minor menu navigation bugs with the mouse have been fixed.

---

Hey y'all, version 3.03 of CSD: Battle Kitchen is now available! This adds a few general and fan requested improvements as well as fixing several bugs. It's rolling out now for all platforms, and here's the change log:

IMRPOVEMENTS

  • Turning off Rush Hour text flashes in the options now also turns off fireworks screen flashes in Battle Kitchen.
  • Toned down bright flare effects from the fireworks in Battle Kitchen.
  • "New" badges indicate a new weekly challenge has been downloaded, typically scheduled for Monday of each week.
  • The way that scores are being pushed to the Steam Leaderboards have been altered, solving the issue of some beta testers not being able to set new scores.
  • You can now tap or click the top left portion of the screen to continue instead of pressing enter in the CSD title screen. This is to better accommodate touch screen or mouse only users.
  • Leaderboards are now available outside of the game! http://steamcommunity.com/stats/CookServeDelicious/leaderboards/547524/

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed bug that halted the unlocking of characters even if there were still characters to unlock. For those affected by the bug, play any Endurance or Weekly Challenge and then continue to the main menu to get the character wheel spin.
  • Improved the display of combos over 199 in Endurance mode and Endurance menus as well.
  • Fixed a bug that could occur when loading and downloading a Weekly Challenge that would display recipes improperly.
  • Fixed the Campaign co-op bug that booted the expediter when the restaurant closed even if there were still customers to serve.
  • Fixed small bug that would reset Strike Challenge difficulty after clearing a Strike Challenge.
  • For those experiencing hard crashes upon booting up the game, press and hold Shift while the game boots up to disable avatars, as that will solve the issue. To turn avatars back on, press and hold Control while the game boots up.
  • The no-fun police somehow hacked my computer and fixed a hilarious bug that caused restaurant equipment to walk into your restaurant and order food.

CSD: Battle Kitchen is out of beta, available now! (v3.02)

Here it is everyone, the big update for Cook, Serve, Delicious! This is part one of a two part free update called Battle Kitchen, which includes campaign co-op, local multiplayer, weekly challenges, endurance modes, and tons tons more! As always bugs or any kind of issues should be posted here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247020/discussions/0/624075036534507076/

Here's all the improvements you'll see in the patch:

NEW FEATURES

  • Battle Kitchen Mode added! This new expansion is unlocked at the onset and is separate from the Campaign Mode. Some of the new modes include...
  • Weekly Challenges (1 player)- Leaderboard time based challenges with a new challenge each week!
  • Strike Challenges (1-4 players)- Take on twelve brand new challenges on your own or Tag Team with 3 others locally! For the first time Specialty Foods are mixed into these challenges, and the gameplay has been tuned to provide the most difficult waves of food yet. Select between Standard Difficulty or Extreme Difficulty for an ever greater challenge!
  • Endurance Mode (1-4 players)- How far can you make it as endless waves of food pour into the kitchen? Not only that, but calls from Chef Risotto has you upgrading and switching out foods on the fly, providing a unique experience that's unlike anything else in the game.
  • 25 Indie Guest Stars- 25 characters from Indie Classics to up and coming great games have stepped into the Battle Kitchen! Unlock them by completing Strike Challenges, participating in a Weekly Challenge or going as far as you can in Endurance mode.
  • Campaign Co-op- play with a friend simultaneously in the main Campaign! One person cooks, and the other expedites the orders. Works with your current save and is a fun way to play the game with others!
  • All new Statistics Menu- Three pages of detailed data that uses your current save, from how many pounds of meat you've served to a breakdown of each food you've made.
  • Enchiladas have been completely retooled to be more user friendly and faster to prepare (no more wait times needed for frying tortillas).
  • You can now select specific recipes to practice on in Practice mode.

NEW ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS (ENGINE)

  • Improved controller handling when plugging/unplugging a controller during a game. You can also navigate options and gamepad menus using the controller, and no longer need a mouse for first time gamepad setups.
  • A new "Load Game" option allows you to exit your current game to load a new save without having to quit and restart.
  • Utilized Game Maker's new audio engine and replaced all music with ogg files, so that there are now "clean" loops of music tracks.
  • Utilizes Game Maker's new engine improvements that addresses a rare bug that causes memory leaks for some video cards, leading to choppy performance over a short time. Also improves performance across all machines.
  • Implemented new render modes. Originally an option for "High Rendering" allowed the game to render at 1080p once restarted. Now there are three options: Standard Render (displays the game at 720p), High Render (displays the game at 1080p, is the new default option), 2K and 4K renders (upscales the game for resolutions above 1080p). These can be changed on the fly and no longer require a restart. These options significantly improve graphical quality for both windowed mode and for monitors above 1920x1080.
  • Engine improvements should fix an issue for some users that lead to crashing when going to fullscreen.
  • You can now resize the game window in Windowed mode.
  • Improved audio cues for certain actions. Thanks to the Nerd3 Blindfold video that inspired me to make this slight adjustment!

NEW ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS (GRAPHICAL)

  • UI overhaul on many menus to better illustrate options and features, including buttons and what can be manipulated.
  • HD assets added for food menu icons, email menu and other elements to improve graphical quality at fullscreen. Many food icons have been completely redone to better illustrate the foods as well.
  • Changed the visual look of the nachos, pizza, and burger bun tops for prep work.
  • Improved the six Food Pins design for achievements and in-game display. Also improved clicknstart/Love Chef achievement icons.

BUG FIXES

  • The game no longer saves the options when switching to fullscreen mode, preventing infinite crash loops for some users.
  • Finally solved the rare food bug issue that caused foods to be given to the player without purchasing.
  • Fixed the Steam Screenshot bug that caused odd outlines and incorrect alpha values in screenshots for Windows users.
  • The Perfect Combos meter now correctly displays combos over 99 during gameplay.
  • Gamepad input display for Pasta have been corrected (left stick prompts).
  • Smaller other bugs have been addressed.

The following is a list of improvements from beta build 3.01:

VERSION 3.02a

  • Fixes minor bug when restarting using Control/Back/Select and then completing a Weekly Challenge.

VERSION 3.02

IMPROVEMENTS

  • You can now restart Weekly Challenges by pressing the Control key, or by pressing Back/Share/View on your controller.
  • Added the option to check the Single and Tag Team Endurance leaderboards through the Endurance menu.
  • Leaderboard mode filters have been added to better navigate through each leaderboard. You can now select Career leaderboards, Weekly Challenge leaderboards and Battle Kitchen leaderboards.
  • Updated Assault Android Cactus logo to the most recent version.
  • Improved leaderboard position of user within the Weekly Challenge mini-leaderboard.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed bug that did not properly upload or download Battle Kitchen saves from Steam Cloud. Beta testers: be sure to start up the game using the computer you used to test the beta with so that your BK save isn't overwritten.
  • Fixed bug that ended some Catering, Iron Cook and Hungry Festivities events too early which also unlocked the Weekly Challenge achievement.
  • Fixed bug when exiting a failed Extra Event and then trying a Weekly Challenge, which gave you penalty time on the first attempt.
  • Fixed a crash in the pause menu of Battle Kitchen when trying to alter music options.
  • Fixed leaderboard display error for the Weekly Challenge when exiting the Battle Kitchen menu after doing an Endurance event.
  • Fixed bug that showed beer and chicken breast foods as 2/4 star levels when shown as a final food in Endurance Mode.
  • Fixed error that did not allow leaderboard results to be loaded upon exiting an Endurance or Weekly Challenge round.
  • Fixed error when clicking "Back to Modes" when an email is opened up, leading to visual errors.
  • Fixed some minor typos.

CSD: Battle Kitchen 3.01 Beta Update Now Available

Hey everyone! First off, thanks to everybody who sent in bug reports, requests, and general improvement ideas for the initial release of Battle Kitchen. The beta had way more bugs than I was expecting, so I've been busy nailing down every single one of them while improving the game further. This will potentially be the last beta patch before the update goes live for everyone, so if you have any bug reports at all, be sure to post them in the Steam CSD forums!

The update is rolling out right now, and here's the change log:

NEW ADDITIONS

  • Added option in the Delete Saves menu to delete your Battle Kitchen save. Deleting your Battle Kitchen save will NOT affect your main save in any slot.
  • Endurance mode now tells you which four foods you had on your menu for high score records, along with their upgraded star rating. This will only apply to future records set within this new patch.
  • The Hungry Festivities Ninja character is now unlocked for all Platinum Star restaurants.
  • You can now refresh the Weekly Challenge if it does not load properly the first time.
  • You now have filters for the sub-leaderboard in the Weekly Challenge menu.
  • Avatars are now uploaded via Game Maker Server so that your character will represent you on the leaderboards.

IMPROVEMENTS

  • Changed the way controller input is handled. When a gamepad is plugged in when launching CSD, you can press enter on the title screen to switch to keyboard controls, or press A/X to continue using gamepad controls. This also makes it easier to have gamepad and keyboard mixed control schemes for multiplayer.
  • Co-Op/Tag Team: Fixed issues with controller handling when an event or day is completed or failed. (All control is given to Player 1 when navigating menus.)
  • Adjusted achievement difficulty for character unlocks down to three and six character unlocks (from four/twelve unlocks originally).
  • Improved the way the game handles character unlocks after all the characters are unlocked (it no longer displays how many stars to go or bring up the wheel to spin after being awarded stars).
  • ENDURANCE MODE: Slightly increased starting difficulty and increased difficulty after 100 perfect combos and beyond.
  • BATTLE KITCHEN: Resets difficulty to Standard when finishing an Endurance or Weekly Challenge run, and keeps the chosen difficulty when in Strike mode.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed the wrong menus being shown after completing a campaign day, leading to emails and weekly challenges overlapping each other.
  • Fixed the low tenderize sounds.
  • Fixed small bug with looping friar cook sounds when using gamepad.
  • TAG TEAM (All Modes): Fixed bug that allowed a player to reset the tag team clock and gain control back by pressing B/Circle.
  • TAG TEAM: Fixed bug when using different controllers (PS4 and XB1 together, etc.) which resulted in the wrong button prompts when "frozen."
  • CO-OP CAMPAIGN: Playing Extra Events (Catering/Iron Cook/Hungry Fest) is now supported properly in co-op mode.
  • CO-OP CAMPAIGN: Fixed issues when using a keyboard and gamepad together for co-op.
  • ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed hard crash when completing the mode.
  • ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed bug that compared single player records instead of Tag Team records for Tag Team Endurance.
  • ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed randomization issue with Endurance Mode that prevented unique randomized foods in the Risotto Calls each time you started up the game.
  • ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed bug that did not save blue star progress, causing it to reset to 10 combos needed for the next unlockable star each time the game was booted up.
  • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed a bug that caused too many zeros in leaderboard times, as well as times being shown in milliseconds instead of the proper format.
  • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed scrolling bug for Weekly Challenges leaderboards that did not assign the proper times to the correct user.
  • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Prevented players from trying the Weekly Challenge if the challenge has not been downloaded.
  • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed a bug that did not halt the challenge when all foods were cleared, making it impossible to complete.
  • WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Installed some failsafes that helps Weekly Challenges to be downloaded properly.

CSD: Battle Kitchen Beta Now Available!

I'm proud to announce that the new big update for Cook, Serve, Delicious, which includes weekly challenges and local multiplayer, is now available!

Originally scheduled for later in the month, I wanted to get a portion of this game's massive update available as soon as I possibly could. So this is part one of two major updates coming this month. In this update, you'll get access to the Weekly Challenges, Endurance Mode, 12 Strike Challenges, Campaign Co-op, and all the engine and game improvements and additions outlined below. A second patch later in the month will add Tournaments, Versus and eSports modes, as well as finish up the menu designs and any gameplay balances needed.

Because of the enormity of this update, I decided to push it into a beta as I feel I need feedback to make sure the new challenges and modes are properly tuned before releasing it to everyone. To play this update, simply right click Cook, Serve, Delicious in your Library, select Properties, then click on the Betas tab and opt into the "Betas" group. The beta is PC only right now but a Mac/Linux version is coming early this week.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES, OR USE A NEW SAVE FILE FOR THIS BETA. Battle Kitchen has its own save file so you can unlock content in that mode across multiple saves, however like any beta saves can be volatile and it always pays to back up saves. For information on where to find your saves, visit this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247020/discussions/0/864980153147332444/

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Avatars do not load properly in the Leaderboards, and the Leaderboards do not show mode specific to where you came from. You can simply toggle them via the button above the boards.
  • Endurance Mode final foods pictures do not load properly.
  • The initial Leaderboards section in the Weekly Challenge menu does not have a filter selector.
  • Gaps in between players (such as player 1 and player 3 joining a game without player 2) can cause issues.
  • Small other oddities will be addressed when the game is released outside of beta.

Hey everyone, Cook, Serve, Delicious! just got the largest content patch to date! It's available now for Win/Mac/Linux. Thanks to all the beta testers who made it the best update yet.

Here's a list of changes you'll find with this update:

NEW ADDITIONS

  • EXTREME DIFFICULTY mode added! Start up a new game and you'll get the option of choosing the Standard Difficulty level, or go full blown crazy with the Extreme Difficulty option. This is the most brutal challenge you will likely ever face. Good luck.
  • Full controller support added! The game now supports Xbox 360 and DualShock 4 controllers. All of the menus, foods, everything is controllable via your gamepad, with a brand new opening tutorial as well. Get ready for a crazy new experience!
  • (Windows) Rumble is also supported, allowing you to feel the hit of every tenderizer, the sizzle of the deep fryer, the pouring of delicious beer, and lots more. You can toggle this on and off in the new gamepad options menu.
  • New Game+ added! Now you can import your customers served count and achievement progress into a new game with a higher difficulty (Extreme) after achieving Platinum Star status. To activate, make sure you have a Platinum Star save, then start a New Game+ in any empty slot in the save selection menu.

CSD Beta successful! Major content patch for everyone coming Monday, April 14th.

For the last week or so the newest Cook, Serve, Delicious patch has been in beta due to it's major content changes, and it's been a complete success. The patch will roll out for everyone (PC, Mac, Linux) this Monday, April 14th.

I just want to thank everyone who participated in the beta and sent me bugs/ideas via email or through the forums. Y'all are awesome and made the game that much better.

Here's a list of improvements/fixes I was able to make thanks to the beta testing:

  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Separated the New Game+ feature from the new Extreme Difficulty level so that everyone can try it. There are now two difficulty levels to choose from when starting any new game. New Game+ automatically takes you to the hardest difficulty as well as carries over your stats.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Opening tutorial no longer crashes when being played after practicing a food.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Fixed a random occurance that would cause the game to crash after the controller is accidentally disconnected.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Trash is now thrown properly when using mouse controls.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Fixed a glitch that would give the player burgers and corndogs for their menu when starting a new game with a controller.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Change some wording in the tutorials to better communicate the LB/L1 and RB/R1 controls for the player.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Properly turned off rumble when controller is accidentally disconnected during the game when the controller is enabled.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Fixed a majority of duplicate customer errors when playing Extreme Difficulty.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Re-mapped the Pancakes gamepad controls so they feel more natural.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Certain foods now allow a full/rapid rotation of the analog stick to place all toppings/ingredients, but only when the recipe calls for all ingredients. The foods that allow this are Salads, Ice Cream, Fried Rice, Breakfast Sandwich, Nachos, Pasta and Pizza.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Changed the icon of save slots to indicate Extreme Difficulty selection.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Fixed a glitch that would not display an Extreme Difficulty save file properly when using the Restore Saves feature.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Changed achievement text to reflect the separation of Extreme Difficulty and New Game+
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Very slightly slowed time down even further for Super Rush Hours, extending them by ~4 seconds. More effects have also been added to Super Rush Hours to up the intensity.
  • (Beta 2.49 fix) Upgraded all silver-finished menu panels to 1080p (pause menu, main dialogue box, main menu).

If there's anything I might have missed, please let me know below or in the forums. Thanks again and for a peek at just a few of the new additions and updates with this patch, check out the previous patch announcement.

(PC) CSD v2.49 BETA- Full Controller Support, New Game+ and tons more! Opt-in today!

Hey everyone, hope you're ready for more CSD cause' that's what I got! This is such a large content patch that I've opted to have it available as a beta first before rolling it out for everyone.

As this is a beta, be aware that there can be bugs and such that will not be a part of the final patch. BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES, which will be detailed below. This beta is for Windows users only.

There is a long list of new additions and updates that I'll post once the patch is live for everyone, but here are some key areas that I want to focus on for this beta:

  • Controller support (DualShock 4, Xbox 360 PC Gamepad). Everything in the game has been reconfigured to support full controller functions. Unless marked, there should not be any instances where a controller doesn't allow you to progress or perform an action. The two exceptions to this are the options menu at the start of the game and the key binding menu. Rumble is also supported across all foods. Please let me know what you think of the controls, how you might improve them, and so on. They definitely take some getting used to, but have been fine tuned so that you can punch out orders as quickly as possible. It's my personally preferred control scheme at this point.

  • New Game+. As this is a new mode, it's always a bit dangerous to mess with code that can affect regular games as well, but I'm pretty sure everything turned out great. If you have a Platinum Star Restaurant, you can jump right into the NG+ mode. I'd love to get some feedback on difficulty and what you think about the new changes.

  • New code for buying/practicing foods. There was a bad glitch that has haunted this game since release that would gift players certain foods after trying them out...or worse, remove foods from their menu that they had previously bought. To kill this bug once and for all, I had to redo the entire code for buying and practicing foods. Please let me know if there's any kind of glitch when practicing, trying out, or buying foods. Everything should be good now.

  • The ability to replay the opening tutorial. This may not seem like much but originally I could not get this to work because of some old legacy code, so it wasn't available. Thanks to the new code for buying foods, I can finally add this feature. You can replay the opening tutorial via the Tutorials menu, and get a different version when using a gamepad. Again, let me know if anything doesn't look right after replaying the tutorial on a normal save.

  • Many assets re-rendered in 1080p. As a result of providing better assets for High Rendering/1080p, there could be a glitch that makes objects or text appear twice the size it should be, or seem abnormally large. This definitely shouldn't happen so let me know if you see anything like that.

  • New Quick Options menu in the title/save select screen. Pretty handy if you ask me! You can click the cog on the top right to access it in the opening menus only.

  • Garbage throwing sped up by 30%. Let me know if any glitches seem to occur when throwing trash.

Now I've personally played a bunch of this beta and feel like I've squashed all the possible bugs in this release, but there's always the chance I've missed one, hence the beta. Lots of bugs from older versions of the game have been fixed as well, which I'll post when the final patch goes live.

Note that this is not the performance patch that will fix the issues of progressive slowdown that some users have been experiencing. That is a bit more out of my control but I'm hoping that the new stable version of GM Studio will be out in the following month, which should solve the issue.

Please please give me feedback either in the comments below or in the community forums for the game. I really appreciate it! So, here's the three steps you need to take to opt into the beta:

  • STEP ONE: Backup your saves. It is vital you back up your saves manually as this beta has a number of game changing updates. To do so, first go to your C:/Users/(your username) folder. Then go to the AppData folder (if you do not see that folder, make sure the ability to see hidden files and folders is turned on). Now go to Local, then CSDSteamBuild, and finally copy all Ndata1file.ini thru 6 files to another location on your computer. You should also copy the BCKNdata1file.ini files as well.

  • STEP TWO: Make sure your email is confirmed with Steam. Steam occasionally prompts you to confirm your email address within the Steam client. You need to do this before opting into the beta, otherwise your cloud saves may become out of sync.

  • STEP THREE: Opt-in. Go to your Steam client, select Library, then right click on Cook, Serve, Delicious and select Properties. Click the Betas tab. In the code box, type in

    iwantmoredelicious

and then hit Check Code. You should be accepted! Now click the drop down menu for the "beta you would like to opt-in to" and select v2_5 beta- Controller, NG+ Beta (3/31/14). Your download should start soon after.

I hope you all enjoy the beta, and for those waiting for the final version to update, it's gonna be worth the wait. ːcsdsmileː
