The V2.0 update is here! Here's some info on what this brings to Crawlers and Brawlers.
Dungeon Revamp
We felt the dungeons in the original release were too small to actually do much beyond running straight at the enemies. In 2.0 we've modified most dungeons to have larger hallways and rooms in order to provide the ability to dodge enemy projectiles.
We also wanted to make the dungeons a little more dynamic than in 1.0. To that end we've added traps to some dungeons to make exploring the dungeons a little more dangerous. We've also added more breakables to dungeons.
Boss Fights
Each boss fight in the game has had mechanics added/altered to make them more challenging.
Enemy Revamp
We've got new enemy types and changed some of the old types. Most enemies will now have animations associated with their attacks. Additionally more powerful enemies will roam the dungeons.
New Inventory/Store UI
The old UI was designed specifically to fit 4 players in a 1280x760 screen. We've done away with that limitation to provide a less cramped Inventory/Store UI. The new UI should be much more functional while still supporting 4 player split screen via scaling.

We're wrapping up our work on v2.0 and are ready to announce that the update will go live on 4/29. We decided last year while working on a console port of Crawlers and Brawlers that we wanted to do some additional work on the game. The final list of changes turned out to be pretty large and 2.0 was born. We think it's the best version of the game to date. This is a free update for all current owners.
Major Changes:
- A tutorial is available to new characters to guide them through the basic controls and game mechanics.
- Dungeons revamp. They're larger, have new effects, breakables and traps added.
- Boss fights improved with new/changed mechanics.
- Enemies reworked/added with new mechanics/behaviors.
- New Inventory UI to allow for easier item management.
- New Store UI to allow for easier buying/selling/comparing of items.
- New Crawl mode UI to make it easier to see where other players are and their status.
- Item re-balancing. Stats have been reworked to provide a more stable power progression. We've also added a few new secondary stats like move speed. Finally, we've added two more item slots on your character to equip loot.
- Visual changes. We've added some effects to the world to flesh it out. Fog of war in dungeons and environmental effects in the town. We've also adjusted many of the projectile effects to be less distracting.
Minor Changes:
- Smoother keyboard movement around obstacles. No more getting stuck on the edge of a tile.
- Adjusted the default key binds to be more usable.
- Character skills now will be unlocked over your first few levels instead of all being available at lvl 1. This does not effect Brawl games where all skills will be unlocked regardless of character level.
- Some enemies now have attack animations.
- Character skills now all have use animations
- Dungeons all have names which appear when opening their maps.
- New Arena map and Arena enemies no longer spawn specific waves, but spawn from a pool of enemies.
Price Change:
In preparation for the v2.0 release we have changed the price from $4.99 -> $7.99 (Adjusted for local currencies). We hope new players still find this to be a fair price for the game. This will match the price of the game in other stores.

The Crawloween event is only available for a limited time, so make sure you do all of your trick or treating by November 15th!
- Night has fallen over the land, the dead are restless, and the town is beset by pumpkins!
- The Headless Goatman has a mighty quest for the fearless among you. The rewards are a real treat!
- Do the normal human skin types seem boring to you? Select one of the new Halloween skins for something a little spookier.
- The monsters are quite festive as well, look for new item drops that provide bonuses to gold, experience and item drops.
Patch Notes for 1.4.2:
We wanted to focus on difficulty with 1.4.2. We've had a few patches of power creep which needed to be addressed. In short we've made Easy and Normal a little harder. Hard and above are more significantly affected. We'd love to hear from you folks as to whether the new difficulty is too hard/easy. In addition to the difficulty tweaks we've made a few fixes to outstanding issues.
- Crawloween is back!
- Enemy damage increased on all difficulties (Arena damage is unchanged).
- Reduced the drop rate of health potions.
- Town fountain no longer heals on Hard or above difficulty.
- Increased the gold lost when dying on Hard or above difficulty.
- Turned off persisting blood on Arena games.
- Fixed the Arena pop up to not show if you select "Don't show again".
- Added a short description of the Arena to the tutorial.
- Added error handling to loading screen hangs.
- Fixed an issue that could cause a crash while chatting.

Hey Folks! We've just released patch 1.4! It's got some cool new stuff in it that we hope you all enjoy. If you do, or even if you don't, let us know what you think in the forums.
Skill Trees
We wanted to make leveling up your character more meaningful so we've added Skill Trees. These are a set of upgrades you can select for your character that improve your overall character, or improve one of the class abilities. You'll get a skill point every even level, and with the new level cap of 40 you can get 20 skill points. That's enough to max out one of the abilities and improve another. We hope these allow for some greater variety in game play for each class, and allow you to specialize a character more.
If you make a mistake with your skill selection don't worry! Well, don't worry too much at least. You can find Amnesia potions that will let you reset your skills, or purchase them from the potion vendor for a small fortune.
The Arena
We wanted to increase the PvE challenge of the game, and maybe get some competitive juices flowing, so we're adding an Arena game mode in patch 1.4. The Arena will stuff you into a small level, with a bunch of enemies that have been "enhanced". They'll be faster, stronger and do more damage. Your reward for clearing each wave of the dungeon will be some loot and a spot on the leader boards. It's easier said than done, as not only do you need to kill all of the enemies, you need to do it in a time limit. So you'll need to balance damage and defense in order to clear the higher tiers. We've got leader boards setup for both solo and team play. So no matter how you play the game you should be able to participate. This feature is in a bit of a beta state. We want to hear your feedback! Leave a message on the forums, or contact us via e-mail/twitter.
Local Co-op Story Mode
You can now play the story mode in split screen! This will support up to 4 players. Unfortunately online co-op story mode is still not supported.
Other Changes
- Level cap raised to 40. The time to hit 40 is roughly equal to the time to get to 30 previously.
- The inventory UI has been reworked to take up more of the screen. We'll be using this space for some more stuff in the future.
Minor Changes
- Fixes for a number of crashes.
- Your location on the town map will be saved in Story mode.
- Story quest items will no longer remain in your inventory during Crawl/Brawl games. They'll be added back in when you resume the story.
- Fixed an issue with some enemies that might cause a desync.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent you from seeing other players on the Island Camp map.
- Reworked controller UI for some menus. Controllers will now use drop downs similar to how mouse/keyboard work.

Hey Folks! We're preparing the first non-annual Summer of 2017 patch, aka 1.4. The changes are larger than most of the stuff we've done since release so we'd like to give the players a chance to check it out early and provide feedback/help us test it. In order to give it a shot you just need to change to the beta branch in Steam. It's pretty easy: 1. Right click on Crawlers and Brawlers in your game list, then go to Properties 2. Click on the "BETAS" tab on the far right. 3. Click on the drop down and select "beta -" 4. Steam should download the new version automatically, if not then close/reopen
NOTE: You will not be able to go back to the release version until 1.4.0 goes out!
Enough of that, you're probably wondering what's changed.
Patch Notes
- Skill Trees added for each class, allowing you to specialize your character more.
- The inventory UI has been reworked to accommodate more info on each screen. More changes coming here.
- Story mode can now be played in split screen.
Minor Features
- Your location on the town map will be saved in Story mode.
- We've added a little motion to some elements of the world.
- Story quest items will no longer remain in your inventory during Crawl/Brawl games. They'll be added back in when you resume the story.
- Fixed a few crashes present in 1.3.4

Hello Folks, We're releasing a small quality of life patch. We'd like to thank Conviction for their suggestions. If you have feedback on the game we're always available on the Steam forums.
Map UI Update
The Map UI has been given a once over. We've made the dungeon map a little larger, and the town map much larger. The town map can also now be scrolled using your mouse/controller, so you can look around the map. Initially the town map will be hidden, but you will reveal it as you move around the town and surrounding areas.
Item Locking
In order to allow you to manage your inventory faster, we've added item locking. This prevents an item from being dropped or sold. You can lock items using the compare UI, or in the inventory panel using the thumb sticks, or middle mouse button, depending on your controls.
Secondary Keybinds
Keyboard and mouse users can now bind a second key to actions. You can do this by right clicking an action in the Controls menu.
Additional fixes/changes are below:
- Crashes will now list the error on the pop up.
- Button bound to Interact will now work as the "Skip" button when talking to an NPC.
- You can now drop items when comparing in the inventory.
- Fixed bug where caps lock could not be used as a keybind.

Crawlers and Brawlers Anniversary Sale
It was a year ago today that CnB released on the Xbox 360 indie store. To celebrate that we're having a sale!
Patch 1.3.2 - Buff Status UI
New in build 1.3.2 is a UI showing the status/effects of buffs in more detail. You can now see a description of each buff along with the time remaining. The UI will display whenever the inventory screen is open. Buff icons will still be visible on the HUD during normal game play. We may adjust this UI in the future to make it more usable, please let us know if you have any feedback.
Fixes
- Fixed a crash related to the new luck potion buffs.
- Fixed a crash related to deleting a character on the select screen when another player is selecting a character.
- Fixed a crash related to network enemies.
- Fixed an issue that prevented artifact level luck potions from spawning in the store.
We're releasing Patch 1.3.1 today. It's a small patch fixing a few bugs, adding a new feature and adding some diagnostic data we can use to improve the game going forward.
Fortune Potions
A new item you can purchase at the potion vendor are Fortune potions. These grant you a buff on use which will increase the drop rate of certain qualities of items. The tradeoff is all items below that quality will no longer drop. So a Rare Fortune Potion will increase the chance of blue drops by 2x, but green and white items will no longer drop. This does not affect potions/gold.
Other changes
- Added some data collection to the game. This is non-personal info regarding gameplay that we hope to use to improve the game. It can be disabled in the gameplay settings menu. Automatically disabled when running in Offline mode.
- Drops will now indicate the type of item in the pickup text. So you can get some idea as to what you're about to pick up.
- You can now only pickup items for your class. This should make split screen games a little easier, since loot drops won't get mixed up.
- Fixed a bug that might have a black bar appear on the right side of the screen.
Ho there adventurers! Crawlers and Brawlers has been updated special just for Halloween. We've made our worlds extra spooky and added some exciting trick or treating features as well as some highly requested ones.

- Do the normal human skin types seem boring to you? Select one of the new Halloween skins for something a little spookier.
- The monsters are quite festive as well, look for new item drops that provide bonuses to gold, experience and item drops.
We've also made some improvements to the game.
- You can now select a difficulty for your story games. Note this cannot be changed, so choose wisely.
