It’s been a while but here we are with a ton of new stuff - new and totally free content, new languages and fixes. Let’s get to it!
The biggest addition this time is more game. “Roboto Factory” is a free DLC that lets you get inside the famous Roboto Factory, where all the bots you've met on Speculo were created. You will discover its workings and see your old mechanical companions in a new light.
We’ve also added the support for both simplified and traditional Chinese - now not only you can enjoy the game with Chinese subtitles but also with Chinese text within the game world!
Additionally we’ve implemented some new fixes:
- We’ve moved onto a newer version of the Unreal Engine. Thanks to that we’ve been able to further optimize the game and improve its performance in some locations;
- With the new renderer the depth of field has been improved;
- Buggy handles better and has improved physics;
- Fixed the achievement “Get 6600 units of graphene” - now it should unlock properly;
- Fixed the occasional issue with incorrect display of subtitles;
- Added the option to turn off the vibration on gamepads;
- The puzzle with guiding a robot at the beginning of the base game has been improved to deliver maximum satisfaction;
- Added the option to reset your save files, so you can restart the level you’re currently in. In the main menu just press LCTRL+LSHIFT+F5 and listen for a sound indicating that the reset is done.

We know it's been a while since the last patch. The devs from Carbon Studio are working on another big one containing fixes, more gameplay, and additional localization. This is still TBA however, although it should come out soon - we'll roll it out as soon as it's ready.

Hello everyone!
We know it's been a while since the last patch. The devs from Carbon Studio are working on another big one containing fixes, more gameplay, and additional localization. This is still TBA however, although it should come out soon - we'll roll it out as soon as it's ready.
For now we have something somewhat unexpected for you - support for Linux.
In short, if you have a machine running Steam OS, you can enjoy ALICE.

Phew, it took longer than we thought but we’re finally here! Another patch comes, as promised, and it should fix many of the issues you guys were having recently. We’re vigilant and we’re looking into all of the problems you’re reporting. We know that at the end of the day you just want to play a cool game without any hassle, so we’re truly thankful for all of your feedback. Thank you!
Ok, now enough of this jibba jabba and let’s get to what’s new:
- Added a teleport system to the game. It’s entirely optional and you can find it, unsurprisingly, in the options menu. It’s the point-to-click sort where you freely choose the location you want to go (instead of moving to a predetermined zone). It works with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive;
- Fixed the OSVR support for the newest HMD, just choose one of the HDK2 compatibility modes while starting the application. There’s one caveat though - HMD scaling (supersampling) is currently unavailable on OSVR;
- Broader support for unsupported devices. Now the game launcher will be giving you six choices instead of the usual three. If you happen to have an HMD that is not of the Oculus-Vive-OSVR variety, you can now choose one of the new compatibility modes and (fingers crossed) everything will be working. No guarantees but we believe in many cases that should do the trick;
- Fixed the issues with game saves. We’ve tested it extensively to find the cause of the problem and the saves you’ve provided were of huge help to us. Now both saving and loading works as intended;
- Changed the locations of several checkpoints, so no Alice will be trapped in a no-win scenario ever again;
- Snap turning on HTC Vive will no longer cause you to move backwards, so now everyone can follow Pop’s mantra: “Never backwards, always forward”;
- Fixed all discovered causes of players getting out of bounds, because in the game of croquet everyone needs to stay in the play area;
- Now on HTC Vive you can use both motion controllers and a gamepad, so even if your HTC Vive is the off-brand type, you can still play Alice VR;
- The camera position on HTC Vive has been brought in line with its position on Oculus Rift. Yeah, it’s a weird thing to mention in patch notes, I know;
- Fixed achievements (On Foot, Grown a Conscience, Greedy, Carbon Footprint, Mommy?). Now the system works faster, is shinier, and in case it bugged out on you the first time, you’ll be able to get the missing achievements on your second go-round;
- Fixed collision issues, especially on ramps. Ramps are tricky;
- Enhanced lighting effects in the City.

And here we are, 12 busy days after the launch and spirits are high. We’ve hit some snags but we’re still working on the game, tweaking its performance and implementing changes requested by you. We are grateful for all of your feedback, both the good and the bad - we learn from it and it helps us make Alice VR a better game for everyone. At the moment we’re working on adding full teleport movement support for the game and we’ll be improving the performance of Alice on Radeon graphics cards (of course this is not the end of the planned tweaks). This patch should drop after the upcoming weekend but for now we have some glitch fixes for you. Those were included in the big GOG update that brought its version in line with what’s available on Steam. However for GOG we’ve added some new fixes on top of the old fixes, and now we have to bring the Steam version in line with the GOG version. Oh, how the tables have turned.
What’s new:
- Fixed the occasional bug when exiting the buggy could place you under the ground (but only waist down - we’re not monsters, we would never try to bury you alive, intentionally or otherwise);
- Fixed the issue with strafing in HMD;
- Fixed the occasional issue during the hallucination right after the Greenhouse level;
- Fixed the occasional issue with saving the game on the desert (right after the planetarium);
- Fixed the issue in the planetarium puzzle, which allowed gamers to acquire infinite amount of graphene. That was madness, Hatter’s levels of it;
- Sound tweaks in the first City level;
- Sound tweaks in the second City level;;
- Fixed the issue in the Greenhouse which kept the door open all the time. That wasn’t right, the Greenhouse closes at 6pm;
- Gameplay tweaks during the hallucination on the desert.

As promised, we’ve just uploaded our second patch. It contains some fixes in the graphics department as well as a bunch of additional tweaks.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
thanks to your feedback on the forums, we’ve found out why some of you were seeing subpar, blurry graphics. It turned out that we've had a problem with GeForce 1000 series cards. We tried to solve this problem in this patch and we are in contact with the people from Nvidia. In any case the right fix shouldn’t be too long. Huge shout-out to Wrath of God, Kris.vdv, sergo1000, and BaineTR for taking the time to help us find the root of the problem! Thanks guys! And now, the patch notes...
Graphics:
- All graphical settings should now work properly;
- Due to popular demand the maximum HMD scaling (supersampling) has now been increased from 1.50x to 3.00x. Go nuts, just be careful and don’t burn your rig down, ok?
Other:
- Fixed an issue causing some voices to not play correctly;
- Now pausing the game during voice playback works as intended;
- Tweaked how the game is being saved;
- Your audio settings will now be saved properly;
- Fixed the occasional issue with computer screens in the first level of the game;
- Fixed the collision issues in the City level;

Our first patch is here! First of all, thank you for supporting us and staying with us through this rocky start. Although things weren’t all smooth from the get go, this first update should put us on the right track. We truly appreciate your feedback, so please keep it up! Now, let’s see what’s changed...
The BIG stuff:
- added the requested option to change the HMD scaling (supersampling) on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Now you have the choice between 0.80x, 1.00x and 1.50x;
- graphics settings are now being saved properly, yay!
- the same goes for your language settings - on occasion they could default to your Steam language. No more.
The less big stuff:
- screen mirroring on HTC Vive should now work properly;
- some on-screen text and controller description fixes;
- fixed an issue during the encounter with the Hatter;
- Polish audio is no longer being selected automatically;
- tutorial messages are now turned on by default.
The new stuff:
- if you’re playing Alice in VR, as you should, you now have the option to turn off strafing and backwards movement (toggled in the options menu). All in the interest of your comfort and well-being;
- added the option to make 90 degrees turns on gamepads and HTC Vive controllers, because everyone should be able to play how they want to.

In every game music is responsible for creating the atmosphere, but it’s in VR games where it becomes one of the most important elements. When you put on your goggles and headphones, you dive into a new, virtual world where every sound you hear is part of your new reality.

Whoa, we've just finished implementing all of the voices for the game! As you probably know, Alice VR is a story-driven experience, so choosing the right voice actor for every character wasn't easy. Especially because there are no typical characters in Alice VR. The game's world is inspired by "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" so everyone there is... a little peculiar. And so we are very proud to announce that over 20 characters were recorded by Sound Cadence Studios, and the AI, which will lead you from the game, is played by Julie Shields and was recorded by the wonderful guys at Eon Sounds. Also, if you're not a native English speaker, please remember that Russian, German, French, Spanish and Polish subtitles (and Polish voices!) will also be available in game! If you want to hear the new voices (and some of the music...) be patient. Soon...

Hardcore Gamer
The planet is filled with trippy touches and striking imagery. There’s an adorable robotic companion who pops up from time to time to offer cryptic advice, and tons of interesting environmental details. (...) People who want to explore a striking new land in a relaxing fashion will be in heaven here. Adding to this are some interesting puzzles. An early one that involved rearranging pieces of a coil to reactivate the ships engine was simple and clever. Traversal puzzles that goof around with gravity are a delight to solve as they force a level of three dimensional thinking that is satisfying to solve.
VR Focus
The world that Carbon Studio has created is a fantastic mix of sci-fi architecture and bizarre dreamlike scenarios. The books inspiration can be seen everywhere, from the mechanical cat that occasionally appears to the out and out absurdly trippy experiences, sharks flying through the sky, menacing black and white forests, tunnels that twist and turn as your viewpoint changes, it’s a visual assault on the senses. Add to that the eerie audio score, and you have quite an engaging mixture.
God is a Geek
