Orange Season Launch Official Statement

Hello, everyone! We can hardly believe its been almost a week since the full release of Orange Season! We want to thank you for joining us on this journey and for supporting us every step of the way. While we hope youre finding much to enjoy in our game, we also recognize that it hasnt been a perfect experience for everyone, and for that, we sincerely apologize. The game has evolved in many ways, and we admit it has been a challenge for us all. At this time, our main focus is to address the issues many of you are facing, especially those game-breaking bugs. Patch notes below: Features: + Added Tomato War + Added Summer Festival + Added Chicken Race Tomato War A festival that starts in the town square on the 14th of Spring. During this event, you and the other three competitors will throw tomatoes at each other, earning points for hits and losing points for getting hit. The one with the highest score when the time is over wins. Don't worry, all the tomatoes used weren't apt for consumption anyway.
Swimming Festival A festival that starts on the beach on the 6th of Summer. The objective is to be the best swimmer there is. Here, you'll compete against four others to swim to the end of the course and back to the beginning. Do not be too hasty; otherwise, you won't get far.
Chicken Race A festival that starts in the town square on the 23rd of Autumn. Here, you'll set up your favorite egg-layer against the top chicken in town and hope for the best. Do not be too disappointed if your chicken doesn't win, they are chickens, after all.

Information on the recent update

Hey everyone,

We wanted to make a post sharing some information about the new version of the game. We're aware that there are various bugs and problems with the new version of Orange Season. We want to apologize for the state of the update and let the community know that were working hard on fixing these issues. Please do keep in mind that the game is still in early access; 99% of these issues will not make it into the final version of the game. With that being said, we want to thank everyone for all the support, feedback, and patience. We've been going through all the bug reports and the team is tackling them one by one. In the meantime, we will remain available for any questions, bug reports, or other queries moving forward. Naturally, updates are on the way

From the Dev Team:

"The demo we released is a way for us to show you what's being developed, to test and get feedback, as well as to give everyone access to new content. The team is working hard to bring all the content from the old game back as soon as possible. It's a slow process, as it is pretty much remaking the game from scratch. But we are putting all of our efforts into it, and we're aiming to deliver a fun experience for the players. In the upcoming weeks we will focus our attention to fix the bugs and making the demo more stable. We are fully aware of all the issues and the team will work to fix them. We know everyone has expectations, and we want to meet those as best as we can." In the meantime, it's still possible to play the old version of the game, along with your old save. In order to do so, please follow the steps below: 1. Go to the properties of the game via steam by right-clicking the title in your Steam library. 2. After, select 'Betas' from the left side menu. 3. Select the build you like to play. old_version beta branch. (4. If you want to go back to the new version, repeat steps 1 to 3, and select the word none as step 3) Thanks again and speak to you all soon, Robert, Rafael & Kazz

We feel this gives everyone enough time to still finish off some things in the old version.
We are super excited about the update! We hope you are too. More changes coming to "Orange Season"

Hey everyone!

Not the monthly update today... but we do have 3 exciting weeks upcoming for the game. To start us off slowly, we'll be changing the game name and Key artwork. The game will no longer be called: "Fantasy Farming: Orange Season" but instead, it will be called simply "Orange Season". (this will be reflected on the store home page soon as well). We believe the name change was needed, it also ties in with the rest of the changes happening. Below is the new key artwork for the game:
What do you think? Like the change? As many of you know, the team is hard at work moving the game into another engine. Next week we'll have more information on this and how it'll impact the current version. We should also have some new screenshots of the game within its new engine to show as well. Big changes are coming to Orange Season soon so make sure to keep an eye out on our social channels for updates as well. Thanks, Robert, Rafael & Kazz

Development update August 2022

Hello everyone!

Today we are going to show some work that we are undertaking to create a new game world for Orange Season, a world filled with personality and history! For this, we went back to one of our core tenants of Orange Season, To provide a place for you, the player, to belong, to call it home. A cozy space for you to take your life in your pace of your own choice. With this in mind, the areas surrounding Orange Town and the town itself were given a new brush of life to reflect the many changes made by the flow of time and by the life of its inhabitants. Now, while traversing this new town, you will stumble upon the marks left behind by those who make this land their own. Marks such as:
The profitable Brittanys Farm, with its high fences paid by the advantage of being owned by the mayors sister.
The beautiful lake inside the Forest, a place to enjoy the heat while sightseeing the flocks of ducks that thrive here. But beware, for this body of water
holds marks from a distant past! Maybe you will fish something interesting here!
Or maybe you will fish out some friendships at the Inn! The Spa now is officially part of the best (and only) Inn in Orange Town. This is now a hotspot (literally) to mingle with the villagers! Of course, your farm also has been brushed to become a green blank canvas for your new life. An empty lot with trees and a modest house will be your starting position to build a place for you (and your chosen villagers) to belong.
This will be your starting position to build your home! Plant crops, and animals or buy the neighboring plot to further build the place where you belong! Please, be advised that this and more are all under active development, and can change in the future. This is it, for now, we will keep you posted on how further we will be developing Orange Town to be a special place for you! (Ps, for everyone who read till the end, we should have a trailer showing the new content coming soon). Thanks, Robert, Rafael & Kazz

BIG Festival - Development update July 2022

Hello everyone! We just got back to our normal schedule after being at BIG Festival last week! It was really special to connect with everyone that played Orange Season, truly something out of this world! We are working hard to continue doing our best to bring Orange Season to you, building Orange Town to be a place where you can live and make meaningful relationships with the inhabitants. We hope to meet everyone again at future opportunities! And a big thanks to everyone that gave their permission to be photographed and to SOEDESCO to give this opportunity to Orange Season. Here are some of the photos from the event:

However, this announcement is not only about BIG Festival! Today we are also showing the last romanceable characters that you will be able to smooch! Let me introduce Annie and Raphael, people firmly rooted in the supernatural aspects of Orange Town.

ANNIE, the daughter of everlasting hunger

Can you keep a secret? Annie is a witch. She can teleport around the town and even make it rain, but don't tell everyone. Not everyone is as open to someone who defies the natural order. (And other witches may not like the competition.) But, hey, can you keep an even bigger secret? Annie is the chosen daughter of the infamous Cuca, a witch known for her wickedness and insatiable appetite. A true boogeyman of this world. Unfortunately, Annie's got her mother's knack for magic and hunger. Each day, her appetite increases, especially when she uses her powers. Annie wishes to great her things in her life, and plans to abuse her magical advantage to make a name for herself in the world. However, how far is she is going to go to satiate her ever-increasing hunger to accomplish her goals? What is going to be the main dish for such a curse? Age: Witches dont believe in numbers. Can talk about for hours: Fashion and drinks Will not talk about: Food and horror films. Known fact: Some cows mysteriously vanished after she appeared in town. (Also, Orange Season uses the term witches to refer to any human being that uses magic, no matter how they present themselves.)

RAPHAEL of all trades

Talking about curses, there is one more cursed being to talk about. Amanda is chained to an unfair contract to the flowers and Annie is a factor to consider when planning against food scarcity, but Raphael is knee-deep in magical trouble. The stoic carpenter had the bad luck to cross a narcissistic witch in his past. Actually, he was their romantic partner, and he screwed up big time. He never said he loved them, never gave them a present, never provided anything to them, never hugged, and never spent enough time with them. If there were any new love language, Raphael most certainly would have committed atrocities against it! Thats if you take their word without question. The truth is that Raphael was in an abusive relationship and got cursed as a result. Now, Raphael is the perfect partner! All that you need to do is ask, and he will magically become what you want, at the best of his abilities. Want a cook? You got one. A farm hand? Yep, you got it! A carpenter? A got the man for you! All done against Raphaels will, who wishes nothing, but freedom to choose his own path. Will he be able to get out of this situation with your help, or is he fated to do the bidding of others? Age: 25 Can talk about for hours: Nature and soccer Will not talk about: Work Known fact: Raphael is a lousy cook. Dont ask him for his help. Seriously, dont. Value your own life! This is the end of our romanceable characters. 10 partners, each one with their own merits and flaws. Each one with a story to entangle you. Will you find love in these conflicts, or friendship is all that will bear fruit? Or their story will be left for them to live, while you target your efforts into other areas? The answer lies with you. Of course, these arent the only people you will meet in your new life in Orange Town. There is still plenty more to meet, and we hope to introduce them to you in the following news. Before we finish, there is still something else that we need to show you. After teasing for months, we wrapped our work on the new Forest map, transforming it from the ground up. Now it is a place with a story, where you can see the signs of an older Orange Town and where the displaced find haven. Be it the disgruntled Benjamin breaking his back on a farm that he doesnt wish to have, where Raphael tries to find solace in his curse, or where the few kids hang out to escape the adults gaze.

With the new Forest, we aim to make you connect with the world of Orange Season. A place where you may try to build a new life with interesting characters. A place where you can lose yourself in it. The Forest is not the only new map that we are working on. The road in it leads to interesting places, places filled with history and power, but these will have to wait for future announcements. - Robert, Rafael & Kazz

Love is in the air part 2! - Development Update May 2022

Today we are back on showing you the romanceable characters in Orange Season! Last time you met Benjamin, Stella, Lucas and Devin (and if you did not meet them, you can check our previous announcement here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/416000/announcements/detail/3194751677700069676) Now, unto the next batch of bachelors and bachelorettes! Please, be advised that everything shown here is a work in progress and can be changed during development.

VIKTOR, the caged blacksmith

Viktor is the older brother of Richard and nephew of Mia. He is a blacksmith against his will, being held in Orange Town as a punishment for past misbehaviors. Viktor would long have fled from the small town to pursue his dreams as an artist in the capital, but after becoming the legal guardian of his little brother, he is at a crossroad. Now, Viktor is restless. Does he still try to chase his wish and leave Orange Town? But what about Richard? What kind of life his little brother will have on the run or if he stays behind? And if Viktor stays, what kind of life he fears to have if he abandons his dreams after he did so much for them already?
  • Age: 25
  • Can talk about for hours: City life and arts
  • Will not talk about: Orange Town and Richard
  • Known fact: Dances with the dancer Gabriel when everyone is asleep.

AMANDA, the supernatural debtor

Amanda is the florist of Orange Town and responsible for organizing the Flower Festival. She is a fun, amicable character that can talk with her flowers and will love to have the new farmer as a new friend or something more. However, she holds a secret dangerous close to slipping out. Her connection to flowers run deep than a career. She holds a great debt to them, a supernatural dept. One that she is been trying to pay for a long time, but each time they change the terms. She will need help if she ever wants to have back control of her life.
  • Age: 35
  • Can talk about for hours: Flowers,
  • Will not talk about: The supernatural
  • Known fact: Some seeds from her selling stock are burned by her.

CINDY, the sapling living in the shadows

Cindy is the youngest granddaughter of Rory, and, unlike her family, has no aptitude for farming, lacking even the basics skills. Cindy is the black sheep of her family, preferring to stay indoors instead of doing in the farm. She is the complete opposite of her cousin Stella, a fact that her grandfather loves to point out. However, Cindy has recently found a knack for woodcarving, creating furniture that looked like they were always inside the wood. Cindy will need to find courage if she wants to change her oppressive situation, but it is not simple when you are caged under the shadow of your family for your whole life.
  • Age: 20
  • Can talk about for hours: Houses decorations, cute animals
  • Will not talk about: Farming
  • Known fact: The mischievous Saci flees from her for unknown reasons.

NATHALIA, the dream chaser

Nathalia is the right hand of Julia or at least, was. She was the first one to embark with the mayor in the journey to transform Orange Town, abandoning her path in college. At first, she joined out of love to help her friend, but she quickly discovered that she entrapped by Julias charisma and wished to give her the world. Everything was wonderful. Nathalia become a political figure in the hall to help Julia and in her free time tendered the library, for her love of stories never faded out. Now, it sees that Nathalia is no longer useful, having been robbed of her spotlight by Julias family, becoming an afterthought for the mayor. Will Nathalia recover her importance or will find another path in life? Or coming to Orange Town in a whim was a horrible decision in her life?
  • Age: 22
  • Can talk about for hours: Gossip and Orange Town
  • Will not talk about: Julia
  • Known fact: Cant keep a secret, but her cake will make you spill anything to her.
For now, we showed you 8 of our 10 romanceable characters, but today we also want to share a bit more of the main story. Back in January, we showed a snippet of Billy declaring war against the player for, supposedly, taking his farm away from him. Orange Season today already tell that your farm was previously Billys and Julia took it away from him for not being profitable enough, nullifying their social contract. You are an innocent in this situation, but Billy sees you as a usurper in Julias pay roll and declares that Orange Town isnt big enough for both of you. The main story will center around this conflict. Billy will try to take your farm away from you, but since he cant do it with force or money, he will use his charisma to convince the other villagers of your supposedly wickedness.
However, Julia will tell you not to fret over it. If you keep your farm profitable, Orange Town will prosper and everyone will accept your regardless. But, if you ever feel unconformable with the lies of Billy, you may try to win the villagers hearts with your skill. Good luck, though. Billys specialty is handling people and nobody has ever seen as his equal in social skills.
What kind of farmer you will be? When challengers arise, will you opt for profits or will take care of the villagers as well you take care your farm? Maybe you will try stay in your lane, letting things blow over, but what if this isnt an option? How will you defend your place in Orange Town? This is all for today. Be tuned for our next announcements and news! -Marten, Rafael & Kazz

Love is in the air! - Development Update April 2022

Hey everyone! Orange Season has a set of characters that you, the player, will be able to romance. Today we are showing four characters that we have been flashing out to be a suitable partner for your player character. You will see them mature over the course of the game, helping them with their problems and being witness to their newfound assurance of themselves. Please, be advised that everything shown here is a work in progress and can be changed during development.

BENJAMIN, the falling star of Laranjal

Benjamin is the younger brother of Julia and Brittany. He is a washed-out actor that only appeared in one film, famous for its turbulence production. Out of options, Benjamin now runs a farm to help their sisters dreams for Laranjal, but finds no joy in it. Haunted by his past and oppressed by his present, Benjamin has ceased to dream, deaf to any other calling in life but this may change when old wounds are opened when Laranjal demands something that he is not.
  • Age: 27
  • Can talk about for hours: Films, his original passion, and places he wishes to visit.
  • Will not talk about: Films, his snuffed-out passion.
  • Known fact: Is actually wearing his costume from his failed movie.

STELLA, the farming titan

Stella is the oldest granddaughters of Rory and cousin of Cindy. She is the pinnacle of her family, being considered the best farmer that they (and Laranjal) ever saw. With skills surpassing the supernatural, Stella is a key actor for Brittanys farm rise to success and her grandfathers farm demise, being creating golden ages when she works on the fields and creating destruction when leaving them. But she is yearning for something more. She sees a farm unlike any other when she closes her eyes, a place as powerful as her. Stella has set her mind to make it real, but what happens when such a powerful person decides to go on her own way? Specially one that can spell doom for a place when they leave?
  • Age: 28
  • Favorite topic discussion: farming, music
  • Will not talk about: family
  • Known fact: During her teens, Stella was detained for crashing a live show in the next city when she came through the roof with Rorys horse.

LUCAS, the square shape in a circle shape world

Lucas is a reserved young man minding his own business in Laranjal, working from home to meet his dues. He tends to keep to himself, but it is a known figure in any social event, even if he stays by the sidelines, wanting to join in. The young man would love to be a part of them, but his past with his overbearing family still has a strong hold on him. Like the player character, Lucas is also a newcomer to town looking for a new life. Maybe they can help each other out and find something unexpected in each other. Lets just hope nothing else came with Lucass emotional baggage.
  • Age: 21
  • Can talk about for hours: Cartoons, fishing
  • Will not talk about: Himself
  • Known fact: He roleplays with his action figures at the forest when he thinks no one is watching.

DEVIN, the life and blood of Laranjal

Devin is quick. Quick to meet new people, quick to make friends, and, specially, quick to please. Serges adopted son is the hemoglobin of the town, responsible to empty the Harvest Bins of every farm and to deliver every package to everyone in town, keeping the city alive. But Devin feels alone in his position. Even though he knows everyone, he doesnt have any real friends, a fact that he tries to remedy by giving gifts to everyone, but nothing seems to stick for unknown reasons. Maybe a newcomer with no prior knowledge of him is just what he needs to start making friends.
  • Age: 21
  • Can talk about for hours: Trivia and jokes of anything that someone may like.
  • Will not talk about: Work and the weather
  • Known fact: Number one costumer of the SPA. His good skin is the result of being the first one to dip in it every day.
That's it for this time! Hope you enjoyed. Let us know what you think, stay tuned for another dev log next month and see you then! PS: We've just pushed a game update to solve crashing! A Deeper Dive in the Forest! - Development Update March

Hey everyone! We are back again to show how the new forest area is coming up! Today we are showing snippets of the lives of the villagers that make the woods their home. Of course, make sure you read the previous monthly dev update posts as well! After last post there was a bit of confusion, as some players thought all these things are live NOW in the game. What's happening now is that the game is essentially being rebuilt in the Unity Engine instead of the current RPG Maker engine which opens up a lot of possibilities for the future of the game! Read more about it in the first devlog: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/416000/view/3121552948617618656 Please be aware that everything shown here is a work in progress and can change during development ;) So! Benjamins farm is now situated at the border of the woods and the city. The last house before natures abode. Here you can find him toiling away on the fields to surpass his sister Brittany farm, but our cowboy only managed to be stuck in second place forever. However this might change. Brittany may be on a collision course with her life.
Benjamin may have an important part to play in a land dispute taking over at his sisters farm. Our cowboy may be the number two farmer in the city, but to his animals he is the most valuable farmer. Benjamin takes pride in taking good care of his animals, giving them a comfortable life on the edge of the world where Orange Town is. Benjamins horses can go to country capital in one gallop and be back in another. A feat that will be put to test!
Drama will bloom in the next harvest at Benjamins farm, but this is not everything for the new Forest map! Gazing over the trees, one may find a spot unlike any other. A spot where the trees dictate the law of the land, where the unreal takes shape. Amidst the new map, lies the entrance to the new Enchanted Forest, where magic makes its home. Few in Orange Town dare to explore it, but carpenter Raphael has been seen running in the area on Thursday to Friday nights for unknown reasons
To finish this log, we also would like to give you a preview of Jonas Zaggos new music for Orange Season! This time, it is the day theme for Winter: [previewyoutube=6pM9ul2jMEE;full][/previewyoutube] That's it for this time, I hope to welcome you to another dev log next month! Of course let me know what you think :) -Marten, Rafael & Kazz

Romance Story Arcs, Updated Forest map & OST - Development Update February 2022

Hey everyone! Another dev update and YES, I know. We're a tad late. This is supposed to be the February update, but please bear with us :D. Today we'd like to share some new stuff surrounding Amanda and Benjamin, the updated forest area that's underwent a lot of changes and of course another piece of brand new OST composed by Jonas Zaggo.

Story Arcs Amanda & Benjamin

Story arcs that the player will encounter if they pursue Amanda or Benjamin (or both)
There is more to Amandas relationship with flowers than everyone knows. The florist will need to face new challenges if she wants to continue her lifes work.
Benjamin, the left hand of the Mayor, may hear again a calling of his past. A drama worth of a Telenovela may cross his path.

Updated Forest Area

We have a set of images of the new Forest area that's underwent a lot of changes. Here you can see what the Forest map looked like before:
The Forest in its current form. A great place to nap. And this is what it looks like now:
Phi and Richard now have a treehouse to play, but their new club only accept kids. No adults allowed, unless they have pizza with them
Raphael, the Carpenter, now lives in the forest, away from the chaos that the farmers of Orange Town create. These new maps belong to the same area. The Forest is now a bigger map, where you can also find Benjamins Farm and the Magical Forest. Of course, these maps are still a work in progress and can change during development!

New Soundtrack - Autumn (Day)

Jonas Zaggo is creating an entirely new OST for Orange Season and here is another example! Check out the day theme for the Autumn season: https://youtu.be/MOZ4scIuuvI That's it for "this" month (February), sorry for being late again :(. But of course for March we'll have another dev update lined up :) Hope you enjoyed it and see you next time! -Marten, Rafael & Kazz

New mines, story progress and new OST - Development update January 2022

Hey everyone! Another month has passed, a new year has started. Let's talk about what the team has been up to for Orange Season! Make sure to check out last month's dev update if you haven't already, some good stuff in there: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/416000/view/3121552948617618656 This time we'll talk about some brand new stuff that's been in the works. As we talked about last time, the game is currently being rebuilt in the Unity Engine which opens up opportunities. One of these is the way maps could be structured. Map designs - New Mines The previous engine limited the map structures to being square and having square borders. That's why currently, most maps in Orange Season are big squares with paths. The most prominent example of this are the mines. They're big, squared boxes fliled with clay and rocks, at all levels, from the surface to the bottom. Thankfully, level design can now be made in a more 'free' manner, like these brand new designs show!

Story improvements This month there's been 30+ story arc drafts made. They include events and tasks for both the main story and characters you can interact even have relationships with. Check out these dialog examples:
The town aint big enough for both of these farmers. Billy promises farm-warfare to regain his position in the eyes of Orange Town.
Any day is the best day to fight the forces of destruction, specially if Pilot Lucas and Pilot Richard are using their mechas to save humanity and orangekind!
Phi always says that skirts are a sign of intelligence and wisdom. Devin needs to really think if he wants to impress whoever is going to receive his present!
Some families sit together to watch TV while others feud over fertile lands. Stellas Family may be reaching a point of no return if her feud with her grandfather Rory is not resolved. We also have new concept art for the new intro, that shows you the journey to Orange Town:
Summer Festival In the last dev update, we shared some swimming characters. This was for the new Summer Festival! Check out how far it's come (also, peep the new music in this preview) [previewyoutube=yjKj8pXwK8c;full][/previewyoutube] New OST in the works Orange Season's composer, Jonas Zaggo, has been working hard to create new tracks that we believe deepen the game experience. We have a very little sneak peek of the new Spring Theme, one of the first tracks you'll hear in the updated version: [previewyoutube=4b1WLdE2qco;full][/previewyoutube] That's the update for now! We're progressing to a better, more stable new version of the game. At this moment we do not have an estimate for when this goes live, but of course this will be the first place to hear about it, along with the Discord server (https://discord.gg/DtykZfFTGn or https://discord.gg/soedesco). -Marten, Rafael & Kazz

A sign of life! - Development update December 2021

Hello everyone, So... It's been a while! The last big game update (v0.6.2) was back in August of 2020. In the meantime we haven't been sitting still, but what is going on? Behind the scenes a lot has happened in terms of the team. The project's original lead developer who you might know as 'Hudell' on the Steam Community Hub and the Orange Season Discord server is no longer affiliated with Fantasy Farming: Orange Season. No, nothing happened. He's just off to do other things! Thank you for everything, Hudell! The team that was working on Fantasy Farming: Orange Season under Hudell is still there, and a veteran from the team has taken over the lead role. Introducing: Rafael & Kazz! Them and I will be the main points of contact both here and on Fantasy Farming: Orange Season social media/Discord. In the meantime, a lot has happened on the development side behind the scenes, check this out! When summer comes, some villagers like to test their skills in the water
Updated day/night cycle
The mines are getting expanded. New maps and system are in the oven
BUT, what about game updates? With this change in management, another decision came. Fantasy Farming: Orange Season was built on an engine that does not fit with our plans for the title. This is why we decided to start a porting process to the Unity engine. We expect this process to be done around May of 2022 and it'll come as a free update right here in Early Access on Steam. This also means that in the meantime, we will unfortunately not have any game updates for you in the meantime. However, what will we have? From now on every month, we will post development updates to show you what kinds of new stuff we're adding to the game, that will become available once the Unity version of the game launches once we're ready! If you have any concerns, please let us know through the Steam Community Hub! We'll see you in the next development update ;) -Marten, Rafael & Kazz

If you want a list of requirements for dating each villager, there's one right here! Orange Season Update 0.5.1

Hello everyone! Today I bring you a new update, version 0.5.1. Here's what's new:

World Changes

The beach was added back in the game, with a new layout, new graphics and a new location. There you can catch sea water fish and other exclusive items. You can access the beach through a new area that was added to the right of your farm, or by going down from the town in the passage near Gabriel's house. This new area between the town and the beach is mostly empty now, but in the future it'll be used for building a petting zoo, where you can keep all the wild animals you tame. There's also a new shortcut from your farm to the mountains, making the mines faster to reach.

New Mines

The layout of the mines has changed to be better manageable. Some areas may require an upgraded hammer to be accessed, while others are available from the start but can be accessed faster after you upgrade the hammer. Blue and White crystals are now more easily dropped, but limited in quantity. The game will also boost the crystal drop rate every day that you don't find any, so you can hit the mines every now and then with an increased drop rate instead of going there everyday to try your luck. There are also new kinds of rocks to be found on the mines and on the mountains, each one requiring a different hammer level to break.

Keyboard Mapping and Controller Profiles

The keyboard mapping screen was fixed to allow customization of the key controls. The gamepad mapping screen was replaced with the controller profiles screen, where the game will detect what kind of controller you are using and show what actions are mapped to it. I've also implemented support for the nintendo switch joy cons, with different mappings based on which joy cons you have connected and how many. Playing with a pair will behave the same way as any other controller, while playing with a single joycon will have adapted controls for the smaller number of buttons.

Diary screen

You can now check the list of items you've shipped, as well as checking the detailed progress of the game. There are also new keys to open the inventory screen directly.

Tool Upgrades

From now on, you'll need to acquire experience with each tool before you are able to upgrade them. If you have already upgraded a tool that you don't have enough experience on, the game will temporarily downgrade it until you reach the required exp. You won't need to redo the upgrades. This update also includes two Fishing Rod upgrades. The upgraded rod will attract fish that swim close to the bait, allowing you to catch fish that only swim far from you. The fish location, spawn rate and prices have all changes with this update as well.

Graphics

Some graphics have been improved, while others were added in this update:
  • New Fences
  • New Town roads.
  • Five New Villager Portraits
  • New Weather Effects and Weather Announcement TV Channels
  • Festival Announcement TV Channels
  • New emotes
  • Small changes on the town layout
  • New graphics for weeds, tree stumps, logs and stones

Other Changes

  • You can now buy ores from the blacksmith after you ship a certain number of them
  • You can buy lumber from the carpenter
  • The game will show what kind of crop is sown on your farm when you approach it
  • The game will show animal names when you approach them
  • The hay maker now turns wheat into hay as well.
  • New tasks.
  • The bank and debt systems were removed from the game.
  • The miner's guild was removed from Orange Town. You now get access to the gold mine by upgrading your hammer.
  • The mushroom people were removed from the game.
Since the mushroom people were underdeveloped, with no personalities and nothing but the promised ability to open passages on caves, I've decided to replace them with new unique characters. I'm writing a few new villagers that will show up in the next few updates and are going to be much more interesting.

What's Next?

The dating system is finally being implemented. It'll most likely be released in an update two months from now.

Orange Season Update 0.5

Buckle up everyone, as Orange Season v0.5 is finally here! The changelog this time is much larger than usual, so I'll try to keep things short. Feel free to reach out if you want to know more about any change.

New Mouse Controls:

Playing with a mouse was too complicated before, but now almost everything is done with a left mouse click. The game will automatically determine what it should do based on what you clicked on. A few actions still have specific commands, like double clicking to remove a building / fence / machine / sprinkler. You can also right click an item or tool on the HUD to quickly use/consume it.

New Save System & Steam Cloud:

I changed the way the save files are stored. From now on, the game will generate a file with your character name that will hold all of your data. Those files can be opened and modified with any text editor (like windows' notepad) but be careful of what you change, because you can easily break the data structure too. The game will also sync your save files with Steam Cloud now, so you can play the same save file on multiple computers. Do make sure all of your computer clocks have the right time, or this feature may cause an older save to overwrite a new one.

New Menus and Interfaces:

The thick of this update is that every menu screen has changed: the game loading, title screen, main menu, storage, shipping bin, trash, item shops, animal shops, recipe list and probably more that I'm forgetting right now. I'm very excited to finally share all those new interfaces, because I've been working on them since last year. A few of them (like the tool list) may be looking incomplete because they are prepared for some new features that are not yet implemented in the game.

Maps:

Probably the most requested feature of the game on recent times, the maps are finally in. Press the map key anywhere to load a map showing the whole area you're in and the location of any villagers within it. The villagers will appear inside their houses if they are awake there, but will disappear from the map if they are unavailable.

Credits Screen:

Press the map key on the title screen to access the game credits.

New Teleporter Requirements:

You'll need to befriend Annie and complete a series of tasks to receive the teleporter now. If you load a save file that already has the teleporter, it will be removed from your inventory.

Machines:

You can now ask Viktor to build machines for you, like the mayo maker and cheese maker. Put an item in, get another item out of it. There are no timers, but with the exception of the hay and feed makers, you can only put in one item at a time.

Portraits of the main characters:

Your own character and the first 10 marriage candidates now have a portrait picture that will be displayed whenever they say something. Some of those characters had their styles changed on this update as well. And since many people had trouble with her name, Cinth was renamed to Cindy.

New Conversations:

Every character that received a portrait on this update also received dozens of new conversations. Only one of the new conversations will be triggered per day and it'll usually be the first thing the villager will say that day. Most of those are related to the beginning of the game, so don't mind if a character you've been talking to for ages suddenly act like they barely know you. Tasks and Cutscenes may require you to have seen some of those new interactions. Some of them can only be triggered during spring, but it doesn't need to be on year 1.

New Tasks:

Other than the tasks I mentioned on previous items, there are also new fetch quests. Nothing too exciting, but they can give you some extra friendship points.

New Tool Behaviors:

Some tools will work in a different way now. The watering can will always be used on it's max level, so you don't need to hold the tool button anymore. The sickle will also be used on it's max level when cutting weeds, but it will only cut crops if you click on them (one at a time). When cutting crops with the sickle, there's a chance you'll receive back a seed for it. Cutting weeds with the sickle will also give you the weed item that you can now use to make hay. The other tools like the hammer, axe and hoe do not have an area of effect. The axe and hammer will always have the strength of it's max level, while the hoe will have a faster animation and a largely reduced stamina consumption when upgraded.

Changed availability of animals in shops:

I've reduced the number of animals available for sale on the shop (for example: 8 kinds of cow instead of 32). Mostly because there were many animals that were only a couple pixels different from others. Now each animal is unique.

Changed Crops/Seeds Prices and Growth Time:

I changed the prices of several seeds and crops to rebalance everything. A few seeds also changed their growth time, but those changes were minimal.

New weekly shop:

On saturdays, you can find the salesman on the restaurant, where he'll be selling you random items that you've shipped before, as well as some very rare items that can fetch a high price.

Pause time inside houses:

Previously the game would only pause the time inside your own house. Now it applies to all houses. Many players asked for this and it also makes things easier on my side, as I no longer need to implement Serge kicking you out when you decided to sleep right in the middle of the store. Sleeping on the floor will not recover stamina and fatigue when if time is paused.

Even more:

There has been a lot of other small details that I changed during all this time that this update was cooking. See if you can find anything.

Next Update

This is not yet a promise, but version 0.5.1 is planned for August. It should include the portraits of the other villagers and some new festivals, among other things. I'm also working towards completing the dating system, which will be included on version 0.6.

A huge update is coming later this month

It's been nearly nine months since I released version 0.4 of the game. Version 0.5 was supposed to come only three months after that, but many things delayed it's arrival. It is finally going to be released on June 24th, with a lot more than I had initially planned. The first big thing I started working on after the september release was an overhaul on the mouse controls. It was a popular complaint among players that those controls were too complicated. That happened because when I first started it, I wanted the game to have the same controls as the PSX Harvest Moon game. Mouse and Keyboard controls were only emulating a controller instead of being used directly in the game. That changed now.
The next change was one of the most requested features: a map. Yes, it's finally here! There are three maps available on the game now: the town, the mountains and the forests. You can see by the image above that the villagers will also be tracked in real time on it, simplifying the job of all stalkers. While I added the map and changed the mouse controls, Ryan was busy drawing new menus for the game: title screen, inventory, calendar, shops, storage, trash cans... every user interface has been replaced with something much better. For example:

Other than all the visual changes, there is a lot of new content on the game: new tasks, hundreds of new conversations with villagers, new items to be found on the caves and machines. You can buy any of the machines by talking to the blacksmith, but they require rare materials and a decent amount of money. The machines that are already available are: - Mayo Maker - Cheese Maker - Bird Feed Maker - Hay Maker - Seed Maker If you have already played the game before this update and befriends Annie, you'll get an alert when you load your save file, saying that the teleporter was removed from your inventory. To acquire it again, you'll need to increase your friendship with Annie and complete a few tasks. Nothing too complicated. Those were just a few spoilers about what's coming on this next update. There's still a lot more. Stay tuned.

Orange Season Update 0.4

Hello, everyone! Today I'm releasing Orange Season version 0.4, which changes a lot of things on the game: The most important thing is that Rock Town and Orange Town were merged into one, with every Rock Town villager moving into Orange Town. While my initial idea was for the game to have three towns (Orange, Rock and Pudding), as I watched different people play the game I decided it was better to have everyone closer to the farm. With the merge, Orange Town was redesigned to accommodate everyone. I also changed it so the whole town is loaded as a single area, to hopefully prevent people from getting lost on it (the map is still coming). Festivals are held on a special area on the north side of town, while your farm is now to the south (and bigger than before). The mountains and forests are on the same place as they were before, while the beach was temporarily removed. The mountains and forests were also redesigned and are loaded as a single area now. Additional new forest areas were created to hold the special seasonal fields (all four of them are on the other side of the forest now, accessible only after the first fall season). Those new huge areas may require a little more CPU power to run smoothly, so I took some time to make a lot of performance improvements to balance things out. I also added a new setting that will let you change the game to run at 30, 40 or 48fps if needed. The art style was also improved, with changes to the grass, land and snow that reflect the changes made to the trees on a smaller update a few months earlier. The fishing system and the way that the fish spawn was also changed. From now on, you'll see new fish shadows showing up and also disappearing as you walk by. If you use your fishing rod, they'll no longer swim towards your bait, so you need to throw it on their path. Bridges are usually the most effective places for fishing. I've added many new conversations and cutscenes. I also changed some of the existing ones. From now on you'll start the game with a dog instead of getting one from Mia. Due to some recent issues with the wild animals, this update will move all of them back to their original position. If you have already tamed any wild animal, you will need to pick them up again if you want them on your farm. The friendship level will not be lost. Other than that, I've also balanced some item prices, changed spawn rates and fixed lots of bugs that had been reported. If you haven't played in a while, there are also some more changes that were done on smaller updates that I didn't write any announcement for. Those changes include the possibility of crops dying, new hair and skin colors for your character, new types of fish and items, new options on the storage screen, new caves, new jewelry, a brand new database screen, the ability to jump over fences and a lot more. You can check the in-game changelog for a full list of changes. Even though this update was huge, it is still not everything that I wanted to have ready for this version, so I'll be releasing a 4.1 update in a couple weeks to make up for it. One last thing: yesterday the game completed 4 years in production. It's a very long time, a lot more than I expected it would take to finish the game, but things have been moving faster now, as I'm no longer working alone. While I'm still calling the shots on everything, I've three people helping me with the game now. They are:

  • Marcos Freire (RyanKamos), who has been working on the game art for over a year now.
  • Rafael Magnino (Rajuma), who's now helping me write the story, cutscenes and conversations.
  • And Bruno Nicodemos, who has already played the game for hundreds of hours and is now helping test and analyze bug reports.
Since I'm no longer alone, I'll soon be changing my dev name from Hudell Tales to "Tropical Puppy", the studio name we picked. This is just a heads up so you all don't need to worry if the name suddenly change. It'll still be me behind the game! Thank you all for playing it and I hope you enjoy the update. As always, let me know if you find any issue!

Orange Season Update 0.3

Hello everyone! Have you missed me? It's been nearly three months since I released version 0.2.9 of Orange Season, but there's finally a new major version here: 0.3. This post will highlight everything that changed through every small update since version 0.2.9:

New Inventory

The main reason why this update took so long to complete, is that the whole inventory system of the game was remade. The previous system was more complicated than it needed to be (and that was one of the most common complaints that I used to receive). This new system is similar to many other PC games and should be much easier to use. The main difference, is that you no longer pick items out of your backpack when you want to hold them. Instead, you only need to select a backpack slot to be the one that represents the item you're holding. The button that used to move items from and to the backpack (default to F and PageDown) is now used to change the selected slot. You can also press Ctrl + F to deselect the slot (leaving your hands free to use any tool). When playing with a controller, you can change slots with the triggers buttons (press both at the same time to deselect). Another thing that changed is that you can no longer drop items on the ground. Once you pick an item you have to either use it, discard it or put it on a container (storage, shipping bin, etc). Dropping items was a feature that was rarely used on purpose, but many people often dropped items by accident while trying to gift villagers and other similar actions. If you're using the mouse to play the game, you now need to right click food items on the item bar if you want to eat them. Right clicking anywhere else on screen won't do anything for food items. This should prevent you from eating items by accident. The max number of items you can carry also increased. You now start with 10 item slots and can expand it to 30 slots maximum. The screen will only show 10 items on the itembar, but you can switch to the next 10 by pressing Tab (or back/select on the controller). The ribbon tool was replaced by two separate skills: sleep and teleport. They work the same way as before, but you can now equip each of them separately.

New Interface

The changes on the inventory system required the interface to be reorganized too. I used this opportunity to redo the whole weather and health HUDs as well.

New Health System

The Sleepiness and Hunger hidden variables were removed from the game, while the fatigue level is no longer hidden. The new system is based only on the stamina and fatigue levels. Basically, stamina depletes fast but can be recovered with items, while fatigue is only a problem if you work too much but can only be recovered by resting. You can now pass out if your stamina depletes completely.

Cooking System

The game finally has a cooking system. With 6 different cooking utensils and more than 80 recipe variations for 50 different dishes, you only need to expand your house once to be able to access it.

Time is now paused inside your house

Last year I opened a thread on the steam forums to ask everybody's opinion on pausing the time inside houses. After listening to the responses, I decided to change the game so that the time is paused, but only inside your own house. This way your house works as a safe space where the flow of time can't pressure you.

New Animations

Many game elements received new animations: pushing barrels, sleeping, passing out, waking up.

What's Next?

For the next two months, I'll stop adding new features to the game to start working only on content. This means that I'll be adding many new tasks, conversations, cutscenes, items, recipes and secrets. I'll also finally start working on the game's main story. I hope you all enjoy the new stuff and please let me know if you find any bugs. Until next time!

Orange Season Update 0.2.8!

Hello everyone! It's me again, with another new update for orange season! There's nothing big this time, but there are a lot of quality of life improvements:

  • Fixed hud flickering.
  • Fixed invalid location when moving between summer areas.
  • Added new villager conversations.
  • Improved calendar.
  • Changed general store layout.
  • Improved game performance.
  • Added Green Watering Can Update.
  • Added a New Shop Scene and used it on all stores.
  • Tool Upgrading now takes a few days to complete.
  • Added an option to sell animals.
  • Added an option to chat and gift villagers while they work.
  • Changed blue crystal drop rate to be less random.
  • Fixed issue that caused the rooster to never be delivered.
  • Fixed the Curupira's quest triggers.
  • Added option to shutdown the game from the pause menu.
  • Changed watered tiled soil color.
  • Fixed bug that could be used to duplicate items.
  • Fixed issue that caused objects to stop working if you were inside the mines at 6am.
  • Fixed issue that caused the game to crash on macs.
  • Fixed issue that caused the game to give the player free items when they don't have enough money to buy something.
The next big update I'll work on is the cooking system. If you've been following the game for a while, you may remember there used to be a very basic cooking system available in the earlier demos a few years ago, but I recently had a new idea for it that I want to try and I think you're all gonna like it too. There may be one more quality of life update before the new system is ready, but it should be complete by next month. As usual, if you find any bug in the new update, please report it so I can patch it ASAP.

Orange Season Update 0.2.7

Hello everyone! It's been almost two months since the version 0.2.6 of Orange Season was released, but there's finally a new one. And it's packed with content:

Companion System:

One of the main features of Orange Season is finally available. For this version, there are seven companions available: Annie, Benjamin, Devin, Julia, Nathalia, Raphael and Viktor. Once you reach a friendship of at least one star level with any of those, you can give them a special gift and they will ask if you want them to hang out with you. Each one of them has a special skill that is activated automatically when they are with you:
  • Annie will let you teleport to additional locations with no stamina cost!
  • Benjamin will slowly increase your friendship with animals.
  • Devin will slowly increase your friendship with male villagers.
  • Julia will make the time slower, giving you more time to finish your daily chores.
  • Nathalia will slowly increase your friendship with female villagers.
  • Raphael can get you discounts on some stores.
  • Viktor will increase your chance of getting good ore pieces when breaking ore nodes.
With the exception of Annie, the better your friendship with your companion is, the better will be the effect of their skills.

Lifting the Forest Spell:

Using the companion system, you can join Raphael and together figure out why there is a spell on the forest. You can solve the quest as soon as Raphael starts it, but the spell can't be lifted until the first year's fall season. Once you finally lift that spell, you'll be able to access a total of 7 new areas, including the Forest of Eternal Fall, where you can grow fall crops all year long.

A lot more!

The game now includes patch notes detailing everything that was added with every minor update, make sure to check it to see the fixed bugs and the smaller features that were included.

By the way...

Don't forget to check the useful links listed on the discussion board! There are a lot of stuff you can use to follow the game's development closer:

Orange Season Update 0.2.6

Hello everyone! It's me again, with another Orange Season update. Check out what's new:

New Areas:

The old Desert Area was replaced by a new Summer Area, accessed through a new cave on the beach. Eustace and Muriel live in this new area now, on their very own farm. To go further into the summer area, you'll need to give Eustace some fruits in exchange for permission to use his bridge. Across the bridge, there's an area where you can plant summer crops regardless of the current season. The Winter Mountains now have one extra area, where you can plant winter crops at any time. In the back of the Ancient Ruins, there's a new area where you can plant spring crops regardless of the current season. There's no Fall Area yet, it will be added in the next big update.

Daily Tasks:

In the center of Orange Town, there's now a signboard where villagers may post item requests. Those requests are generated randomly, based on some patterns. You need to deliver the requested items on the same day, or you miss the chance (there's no penalty if you miss it). Successfully completing a daily task will increase your friendship with the requester. In this version, there are 7 patterns of daily tasks, for the following villagers: Viktor, Phi, Bonnie, Annie, Benjamin, Chloe, Devin

New Items:

  • Snake Venom
  • Frog Legs
  • Spoiled Apple
  • Spoiled Orange
  • Acai Berry
  • Cashew
  • Yellow Mombin
  • Starfruit
  • Persimmon
  • Plum
  • Blackberry
  • Raspberry

And More:

  • Recolored some more object sprites, such as chicken nests, mine carts, fireplaces, etc.
  • Replaced the TV sprite with a new, much better one.
  • New Resolution Options
  • Removed Breath System. Running no longer consumes stamina.
  • Reduced the chance of rain in the Fall and Winter
  • New Teleport Destinations
  • Young Animals will now be smaller (they'll grow gradually)
  • Added more wild animals
  • Reduced number of crops you need to ship before unlocking wild bunnies and monkeys
  • Reorganized item drop rate
  • Many other smaller bugs were fixed.

Orange Season Update 0.2.5

Recolor:

  • The game went through a huge process of recoloring, making the scenarios brighter and more vivid.
  • Some of the Winter Season scenarios were redrawn.

New Areas:

  • Path to Winter Mountain - Can only be accessed in winter
  • Winter Mountain - Once you enter this area, you can take the mine cart in Rock Town to come back to it whenever you want. This area is always on winter season, regardless of the time of the year
  • Path to Ancient Ruins - A new cave inside the gold mine, unlocked with a task.
  • Ancient Ruins - The ruins of an ancient civilization, this area is always in spring time, regardless of the time of the year.

Sprinklers:

  • Although not initially planned for the game, sprinklers have been a popular demand ever since the first version released on Early Access. This version finally includes a basic sprinkler, capable of watering a 3x3 area around itself (8 tiles in total).
  • To unlock the sprinklers, you need to trigger a cutscene in Devin's plotline.

Other changes:

  • The drop rate of rubies (from ruby nodes) was decreased from 100% to 60%. With the new area, the game has a much larger number of Ruby Node Spawn Points.
  • From now on, your dog will always be near your house door when you wake up (unless you leave him in some other area)
  • Candy Day was moved to Winter.
  • Billy and Cinth can now accept gifts once a week.

Orange Season Anniversary Update 0.2.2

Hello, everyone! The Orange Season project completed three years of existence today, so I'm bringing you all a very special update. Shortly after releasing version 0.2.1, I made some deep changes to the game's internal system to make it run faster on computers with no GPU. Those changes had broken many of the game's features, so I had to carefully fix and retest every little detail of the game to ensure a smooth update today. I want to thank users ScaledWolf and FelipeFalcon for helping me test everything over and over. Now, to the actual changes in the game:

Farm Mechanics:

  • You can now pick up bigger weeds, so you don't need to use the sickle to get rid of it.
  • Smaller weeds were removed from the game.
  • The sickle's area of effect has been improved.
  • Shrank the hitbox of stumps, logs, weeds, stones, rocks, trees and items. You can now walk through some of those.
  • Improved fence's and gate's hitboxes.
  • Weeds will start growing back if you leave unused areas on your farm. Sometimes the wind may also carry a rock or log to your farm too.
  • WebGL Mode Only: New Visual Effect to highlight the area of effect of the sickle, axe, hammer, watering can and seeds.
  • Added "Breath System": Breath is a hidden variable that will let you run for short periods of time without spending stamina. It's recovered automatically when not running and the max breath increases infinitely based on how much you run.
  • You can now ride goats and cows after they reach a minimum heart level. Riding a goat is faster than running and don't consume stamina/breath. You can't climb stairs or enter caves while riding an animal.
  • Improved animal hitboxes.
  • Decreased the amount of friendship required to tame a wild animal.
  • Fixed an issue that caused cats and squirrels to walk through walls.

Towns and Villagers:

  • You will no longer be able to enter the villagers' houses. Instead, your character will knock on their door and the villagers will greet you there.
  • From now on, the lights inside the houses will only be on when there's someone awake inside it.
  • Added new Rock Town Villager: Billy.
  • Implemented other Rock Town Villagers (Adriana, Rory, Ilda, and Gabriel), but those can't be found yet.
  • Changed the size of some wild animals.
  • Simplified the blacksmith's house.
  • Changed Brittany's Schedule. She will meet with Julia and then Nathalia, before going to work.
  • Changed everyone else's schedule to make them go to their bedrooms at night.
  • Decreased the amount of friendship needed to start filling the stars under a villager's name.

Mines:

  • Small changes to the entrance of the big cave.
  • Added a new level to the iron mine, unlocked through a quest. This new level includes a wider area for mining silver and blue crystals. Check the walls on mine level 6 to trigger the quest.

Items:

  • Building a Barn now requires 200 branches and 15 wooden sticks. The price changed from 10,000G to 5,000G.
  • Building a Coop now requires 100 branches and 40 weeds. The price changed from 7,000G to 3,500G.
  • Building a fence now requires 2 branches. The price changed from 50G to 20G.
  • Building a gate now requires 2 branches and a stick. The price changed from 200G to 50G.
  • Brick price changed from 40G to 30G.
  • Changed the icon used for weeds.
  • Added more wooden stick spawn locations.

Mouse Support:

  • Improved Shop Windows to include a "Buy" and "Close" button.
  • Mouse cursor will be hidden when not in use.
  • You can now use the mouse pointer to determine where to use tools (Previously you needed your character to be facing the spot where you wanted to use it).
  • Fixed issue that caused the Shipping Bin Prices not to update properly.
  • Fixed the hit area of all doors and other objects.

Main Character:

  • Changed the main characters' sprites to be slightly cuter.
  • Up until version 0.2.1, I had separate sprites for each possible customization of the main character (genre, skin color, and hair color). This is no longer the case, as the game now generates those sprite customizations on its own when starting a new game or loading a save file. This caused the total disk space used by the game do decrease and will also allow more customization options in the upcoming updates. Because of this change, I added a Loading Screen to the game. This process will need a few seconds when first loading your save file, but it won't show up during the game.

Text Changes:

  • Fixed grammar in Lucas' first letter.
  • Fixed the mushroom seeds description.
  • Fixed Red Watering Can name.
  • Some conversations that required you to talk to a villager twice to get all the messages no longer need so.
  • English only: Fixed some messages that showed large values using a dot instead of a comma (ex: 5.000G)

Tasks:

  • Fixed "Feeding Lucas": You no longer need to hold the food item you want to give him in your hands.
  • Added "Opening a New Path" task for Swamp.

Scenes:

  • Added a new scene with Brittany and Nathalia.
  • Knocking on someone's door is now animated with a small scene (the clock is paused during it).
  • Improved Annie's Introduction.
  • Title screen animations are no longer random.
  • Changed tutorials so that Benjamin tells you about the mouse controls too.

Perfomance Improvements:

  • Improved all sprite files.
  • Improved some math formulas that are used constantly by the game.
  • Improved map transition speed.
  • Fixed some lag that happened when skipping the tutorials on a new game.
  • Several engine improvements.

Others:

  • Implemented a zoom system: This is currently used to show a similar amount of content on the title screen, regardless of screen resolution.
  • Improved Item Shop Window: It will now show all items you need to have when crafting something.
  • Fixed some issues with Steam Achievements.
  • Swapped Mushroom Seeds and Wheat Seeds position in the general store.
  • You can no longer run while holding an item.
  • Changed the "Quick Start" button to a toggle option in the character creation screen.
  • Increased max save slots to 10.
If you find any bug with the update, please let me know so I can fix it ASAP.

Orange Season Update 0.2.1

Hello everyone! There's a new update for Orange Season out there, with a lot of new stuff, check out the changelog:

New Skin Color

When creating your character, you now have a third skin color available. If you want to try it, you can access the early access settings by checking the bookcase inside your character's house.

New Farm Area

You can now buy an extra area for your farm. You can't sow any seeds in this new area, but it is perfect to raise all of your animals. Talk to Julia in the City Hall if you want to buy it, but be prepared: it is expensive. You can move all of your animals to the new farm area by picking up the buildings they live on and placing them there.

House Expansion

You can now order your first house expansion from Raphael. It has no pratical effect yet, but you can already work towards expanding it.

New Items

Three new items have been added:
  • Gold Ore
  • Ruby (Rare)
  • Big Blue Crystal (Extremely Rare)
The Big Blue Crystal is extremely rare and can only be found near silver mining areas. The Gold Ore can be used to make Gold Ingots.

New Tool Upgrades

Your Axe, Hammer, Hoe and Sickle can now be upgraded to Gold Level. Your Watering Can can now be upgraded to Ruby Level.

Miner's Guild and Gold Mine

The Miner's Guild was added to the game. It's located in Rock Town and is currently the only accessible building there. When you enter it, you'll see a familiar face: Roberto. You can talk to him to join the Miner's Guild and get access to the Gold Mine. The Gold Mine has plenty of gold to mine, but occasionally you can also find rubys there.

Bank and Debt System

Starting with this version, you can talk to Julia to access your savings account on the Orchard National Bank. You can deposit and withdraw money from it and also view your debt list. You start the game with a debt from the money that your parents lent to you to buy your first farm. You don't really need to pay it as your parents aren't charging anything extra, but if you register another debt, you better be careful about the interest rate.

Mining Silver is now easier

There's a very small area where you can mine silver inside the Iron Mine. If you neglect breaking all the other rocks that show up there, in a few days there would be no space for the silver rocks to spawn. Starting with this version, there will be no trash stones in silver mining areas, so that you don't have to waste time and stamina breaking them to increase the chance of silver spawning.

Rebalanced some item prices

I have changed the price and availability of some items to try and keep the game balanced. I'll continue to work on this on the next update, so items may change price again.

Bug Fixes

As usual, all bugs found since the last update have been fixed. Some of the fixes have already been uploaded during the week. If you find any new bug in the game, please let me know. You can comment here, send an email or anything else (though I won't be able to read smoke signals or receive carrier pigeons).

And Some More

  • Changed Benjamin's Farm
  • Removed Some Villager's Crops
  • Resized Bunnies
  • Added a Bathroom to the player's house
  • New Perfomance Improvements

For Modders:

I've added a new method to the Content Manager: getCurrentSchedule.

    Orange Season Version 0.1.16 Changelog

Hello everyone! The game was just updated with some fixes and changes. The most important changes are:

    Changed default keyboard mapping.

Some people were having issues with the default keymap before, so I made a few changes to it. To get the new mapping, you need to go to the options screen and choose to reset the mapping to default.

    Increased day length:

The day length was increased to 20 minutes (from 14.4 minutes before). The villager's movement speed was automatically decreased by this change.

    Changed Seeds Area:

Before this update, one bag of seeds would generate 4 crops (in a 2x2 area). It was now changed to generate a single crop. The price of all seeds was decreased to 25% of it's previous values to reflect this change. If you already had seeds in your inventory, the game will multiply the amount you had by 4 when you load it in the new version.

    Full changelog:

    • Fixed issue that caused Lucas to bring lottery results several times.
    • Added a notification box when a task is completed.
    • Changed Benjamin's reaction when you complete his first task.
    • Added more Jasmine spawns.
    • Removed the dark screen tint inside houses.
    • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused crops to appear dry on rainy days.
    • Changed default keyboard mapping.
    • Fixed issue that sometimes caused messages to be skipped.
    • Changed the game to pick your Steam Screen Name as default name for your character.
    • Increased day length to 20 minutes (from 14.4 minutes before).
    • Changed the movement system to add a small delay before automatically avoiding an obstacle.
    • Changed the seeds to be sown in a single tile now. Also changed the price of every seed item to 25% of their previous value.
    • Fixed issue that caused the watering can highlight be shown in red over water areas instead of the regular color.
