If you're one of the lucky players who has received their Steam Deck, we have some good news - One Deck Dungeon is now optimized to play even better!
On Steam Deck, the game will have larger text areas and fonts, and will show button graphics specifically for that device.
In case you're wondering why the game isn't showing as "Steam Deck Compatibility Verified" - there's quite a long queue of games waiting to be reviewed by Valve. Once it's our turn, we're confident we'll get a green checkmark! Until then you can rest assured that the game is 100% compatible with Steam Deck.
This update also includes a few bug fixes and small improvements, notably:
- Fixed a problem where Terrorshell's level 3 ability did not always work properly.
- Right-stick click will now dismiss the full dungeon card after you bring it up.
- Start button will now close the menu after you bring it up.
- On the main menu, the back button now correctly quits out of the game.

One Deck Dungeon is now fully playable with gamepad controllers!
We officially support Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Pro gamepads, but most gamepads should work. The game switches seamlessly between gamepad and mouse depending on what you use.
If you have feedback about how the gamepad interaction feels, or if you run into any bugs, please reach out to us directly in-game using the Send Feedback button in the in-game or main menu. One Deck Dungeon is coming to Nintendo Switch soon, and we're looking to make the gamepad support the best it can be.
This update also features a brand-new tutorial, more interface improvements, and bug fixes. If you're an experienced dungeoneer and want to try the new tutorial, visit the How to Play screen.
Other Fixes and Improvements
- The stairs card now shows time icons instead of hearts. It works the same way as before - whenever 3 icons are on the card, a hero takes 1 damage and 3 icons are removed from the card.
- The boss card now shows a skull icon for its total HP instead of a heart icon. It works the same way as before - once you've earned at least that many skulls by striking the boss, the boss is defeated.
- On wide screens, hero skills are now shown in 3 columns instead of 2.
- Identical effect notifications will now only show once per game state.
- The Piercing Blast effect can now stack with multiple uses.
- Fixed a problem with replacing items when using the Bandages talent.
- Transmute and Prep now work together correctly.
- Various other bug fixes and small improvements have been made.

Gamepad controller support is coming to One Deck Dungeon, and we want to make sure its the best it can be. Starting today, you can try out a preview version on Steam, as long as you own the game!
So far we are primarily supporting Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Pro gamepads, but most gamepads should work. The game switches seamlessly between gamepad and mouse depending on what you use.
We're looking to gather feedback from you about how the gamepad interaction feels, uncover any lurking bugs, and in general make sure the feature is as solid as it can be. Please post general feedback in the special sub-forum, and report bugs directly in-game using the Send Feedback button in the in-game or main menu.
The beta version also includes a brand new guided tutorial that replaces the freeform hint system. You can give it a try from the How To Play screen. Let us know what you think!
Using Steam to participate in the beta:
To access the Gamepad Public Beta, do the following:
- Quit and restart Steam, then open the Library tab.
- Right-click on One Deck Dungeon and select Properties.
- Click the BETAS tab and choose gamepad - Gamepad Public Beta from the dropdown list.
- Steam will update the game automatically.
- Right-click on One Deck Dungeon and select Properties.
- Click the BETAS tab and choose NONE - Opt out of all beta programs from the dropdown list.
- Steam will update the game automatically.
My gamepad is acting as a mouse! Help!
This problem can occur because Steam does not yet know the game has controller support. It tries to make your gamepad control the mouse cursor instead. Once gamepad support is shipped in the public version, this problem will go away. Until then, please do the following:
- In Steam, open Settings (or Preferences).
- Select Controller.
- Click General Controller Settings.
- Uncheck the Configuration Support box corresponding to your controller (or all of them, if you like).
- Go into Big Picture Mode.
- In Library, select One Deck Dungeon, then Manage Game.
- Select Controller Options.
- Set "Use Steam Configuration for Non-Steam Controllers" to "Forced Off".

Version 1.5 of One Deck Dungeon is now available with support for Abyssal Depths! This DLC expansion adds a new threat to your Dungeon adventures: Fiends who hound you throughout your entire quest to reach the boss. Plus, 2 new aquatic heroes join the fight in the murky waters! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1418480/One_Deck_Dungeon__Abyssal_Depths Find Abyssal Depths with the Choose Fiend button on the New Game screen, or by scrolling to the new heroes.
Fiends
Abyssal Depths includes 6 different Fiends, each with two levels of difficulty:
- Endless Kelp
- Merflection
- Sharkwisp
- Spout Elemental
- Terrorshell
- Tidal Snake
Fiends have their own challenge boxes that can be filled at any time, even over multiple encounters. By filling all the boxes you can confront the Fiend, reduce its terrible effects, and claim a bonus! However, the Fiend won't give up so easily - the Threat Level rises again whenever you descend. Note: The Tidal Snake Fiend requires Forest of Shadows.
Heroes
Abyssal Depths also brings 2 new heroes to the fight: The magical Aquamancer brings a tsunami of heroic dice to the fight, while the Stalwart Dragoon wields her trident with considerable strength.
Additional changes in version 1.5:
- Notification popups now appear for various effects that occur due to the dungeon card, encounter card, Fiend threat levels, or other sources.
- Fixed various small bugs.

Spirit Island is a deep strategy cooperative game (what can we say, we like the co-op). Players take on the roles of the spirits of the island, and need to work together to build their powers. Protect the land and the native islanders, the Dahan, from the colonizing Invaders spreading blight and destruction!
One Deck Dungeon fans will find a lot to like in Spirit Island. Your spirits grow in power over the course of the game, and every turn is a tactical puzzle to solve to keep the invaders from getting out of hand. And those ODD players who "got gud" will recognize that a long term strategy is the key to winning in Spirit Island, just like preparing yourself for the dungeon boss!

Now is a great time to pick up One Deck Dungeon on mobile. It's the first anniversary of the game's launch and it's on sale! The core game is just $4.99 (50% off) and Forest of Shadows is on sale for $6.99 (30% off). The sale is on Steam and both mobile platforms and lasts until May 29th (all prices USD).
And since we know someone will ask:
I bought one of your games for Steam (or iOS, or Android). Do I get it for iOS (or Steam or Android)?
A purchase of one of our games is good on the store where you made your purchase and does not transfer to other stores. It would be best to decide where you want to play and plan your purchase accordingly. For instance, a purchase on Steam allows you to play on Windows, Mac, and SteamOS/Linux computers signed in with your Steam account. A purchase for iOS allows you to play on any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch linked to your Apple account. See more on our FAQ here: https://www.handelabra.com/faq

The Kickstarter project for Aeon's End Digital has reached 100% and is heading into achieving stretch goals! Thanks to all our backers, especially One Deck Dungeon players.
Aeon's End is a cooperative deck-building game where you struggle to defend the city of Gravehold from The Nameless and their hordes using unique abilities, powerful spells, and, most importantly of all, your wits. We are excited to be working with designer Kevin Riley from Action Phase Games, as well as Indie Boards and Cards to bring Aeons End to Steam. Visit the campaign to try the playable demo (recently extended) and see for yourself!
Into the Breach: One Deck Dungeon Crossover Info
On the Kickstarter you can find more information about Xae crossing over from One Deck Dungeon into Aeon's End. But now we also have details about Mist joining the mages of One Deck Dungeon!
In her own words: Gravehold, my home, cannot fall. I wont let it. Somewhere, the source of the Nameless, humanity's greatest threat, must exist. Some world, some place that they call home. I can feel our time running out. For now, we survive, but can do little more. We cannot last like this forever. I will find a new weapon, allies... an edge must exist out there. So, each day, I channel a breach to a new far away place. Once, I nearly froze as soon as I stepped through. Another time, my clothes were aflame as I leapt from rock to rock in an endless lava flow. Always, I search for some sign of where they come from or others like us who can help. Today, this new world seems familiar. Despair hangs heavy in the hunched postures of its people. This is a place accustomed to tragedy. Perhaps I can exchange secrets with the warriors of this place. An unfriendly passerby points me toward a massive marble tower with a single utterance, The Guild. When I turn back to ask another question, hes already lost in the throng of people. I suppose The Guild must protect these people from the omnipresent gloom. Seems like they could use some help. I will prove my worth and then they will aid me. They must, for Gravehold depends on it. In terms of gameplay, designer Chris Cieslik has come up with some initial ideas (subject to change with playtesting): 1P: Heroic Feat - Focus: Roll any or all of your dice stored here. Store a Heroic die here when you use a spell. You may store up to two dice at a time. Innate Skill - Prep: [Magic X]: Store a Strength 2 or Agility 2 here for every 3 mana spent (max 9) and replace this skill with Unleash. Unleash: [Free]: Add 2 to each die stored here. You may gain them now, or leave them here. 2P: Heroic Feat - Focus: Roll any or all of your dice stored here. Store a Heroic die here when you use a spell. You may only store one die at a time. Innate Skill - Planar Insight: [Free] Any of the party's spells that have been used may now be used again. Of course, these will be playtested extensively before Mist comes to the game, and all of the above is subject to change before release. Remember, Mist will come to ALL copies of One Deck Dungeon for FREE - but only if we reach the $39k stretch goal! So if you havent already, why not head over to Aeons End and back it. Even a dollar helps!

Our next game, Aeons End, is live on Kickstarter now, and it comes with a surprise for One Deck Dungeon fans!
We are happy to announce that one of the first stretch goals on this new campaign is a crossover event between the worlds of Aeons End and One Deck Dungeon. If we can reach the goal, Xae, your favorite dungeon crawling mage will head to Gravehold to battle the Nameless. At the same time, Mist will join One Deck Dungeon as a new, FREE, playable hero!
Mist is a breach mage in the city of Gravehold, the last refuge of humanity. In her search for the domain of the Nameless nemeses that embattle the last human city, she has opened a breach to a strange world known as Mynerva. By doing so however, Xae has appeared in Gravehold in her place!
We think you'll find a lot to love in the variety and depth of Aeons End Visit the campaign to try the 5-10 minute playable demo and see for yourself. The city of Gravehold needs your magic to survive - and Mynerva could do with Mist's help too!

This is not an Early Access update - it's the real deal! One Deck Dungeon has officially left Early Access and version 1.0 is now available.
Phoenix's Den
The main new feature in version 1.0 will be the first expansion dungeon, available as downloadable content. The first thing you'll notice is the sweltering heat. The further you go into the dungeon, the more your enemies will doggedly pursue you. And to finally reach the Phoenix itself, you must endure its terrifying screech. Only the bravest heroes can handle the heat of the Phoenix's Den!
Phoenix's Den is now available! http://store.steampowered.com/app/860980
Other Improvements
This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones: Features
- Resolution and full screen options are now set in-game on Windows and macOS.
- Optimized disk and memory usage, improving performance and reducing the size of the game.
- Attempting to drag a die that's locked in an armor box will give you feedback so you know why it's locked there.
- When the Claim Loot step is skipped because of the Beetle's effect, it's more clear.
- The end game screen shows the dungeon floor that you reached.
- Cunning talent would be highlighted in some cases where it was not usable.
- Triple Strike skill could get stuck when you had to discard a die from the general supply.
What's Next
Just because we're out of Early Access doesn't mean we are finished with the game. We'll continue to make improvements and add more content. More expansion dungeons and heroes are coming soon, followed by the full Forest of Shadows expansion. Thanks for playing and we still welcome your feedback!

One Deck Dungeon will be leaving Early Access and entering retail release on Friday, May 18th. Additionally, the mobile release will happen 5 days later, on May 23rd on iTunes and Google Play. The retail price of the game will be $9.99 (USD) across all platforms.
A huge thanks goes out to all those who participated in Early Access. The game is so much better as a result of your thorough playtesting and feedback, both in terms of little things like visual polish, or big things like the undo feature. We couldn't have done it without you!
The first of the DLC dungeons (Phoenix's Den) is now in testing, and the first DLC hero (Fanatic) will be in testing soon.
You can read more about our mobile plans on our Kickstarter update.
One More Thing
We would hate for you to miss the Forest for the trees so today we have one more surprise for you...
In conversations with Chris from Asmadi after the Kickstarter funded, we all decided that we wanted to bring Forest of Shadows to digital as soon as possible. As a result, we’ve been sneakily working on the engine for it while we’ve been finalizing the retail release of One Deck Dungeon! There’s still tons of work to do, but we’re much further along that you might guess (since before today, a good guess would be “they haven’t even started”). Basically, we’re not out of the woods yet. But we are trunking right along and branching into new areas for this expansion, and we promise to let you know when it’s ready to leaf development! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHB6wWApQv0

Our fourth major Early Access update has the most oft-requested feature from you, the players: undo! Oh, and a little thing called Gauntlet Mode... read on for all the details!
Undo
The people have spoken, and we have listened! This feature has been in the works for a while because we wanted to make sure it struck the right balance within the gameplay of One Deck Dungeon.
During the game you can use the new Undo button to go back after making a decision in most cases. This means you can change your mind after fleeing, using a skill or potion, claiming loot, converting dice into a heroic die, descending, etc. However, when any new information is revealed, you can no longer go back from that point. For example:
- Whenever dice are rolled, you can no longer go back.
- When a door card is flipped face up, you can no longer go back.
- When face-down cards are discarded (usually by spending time), you can go back as long as you don't view the discard pile. Once you view the discard pile, you can no longer go back.
Gauntlet Mode
Are you ready for the ultimate test of your One Deck Dungeon skill? The goal of Gauntlet Mode is to defeat each of the bosses in as few total games as possible. You start with a blank checklist and bring a different party to each game. Gauntlet Mode games and checklists are recorded separately from regular games and checklists.
In order to access Gauntlet Mode, you need to prove your worth by defeating each of the core game bosses in regular mode. You can choose any difficulty level for each game, and your final score will be recorded on the leaderboard of the lowest difficulty across all games. To get a rank on the higher difficulty leaderboards, you need to play each game at that difficulty or harder.
Card Library Screen
A brand new screen is now accessible from the main menu - Card Library. This screen allows you to review the details of each hero, dungeon, encounter, and other card in the game at your leisure.
Other Improvements
This update has several other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones: Info Display
- Click the XP lantern track to view the cards you've claimed as XP.
- Click the hourglass to view the cards in the discard pile (note the interaction with undo above).
- When viewing your full hero card, you can click Item and Skill buttons to view their full cards all together.
- The other XP Level cards are now accessible in-game.
- When viewing a full encounter card, you can see the status of that card for the Monster Hunter and Librarian achievements.
- If you lose a game, the end game screen has a Try Again button to play the same game setup again.
- If the general supply had no more agility or strength dice, Force Bolt would not work properly.
- If the general supply had no more heroic dice and both heroes used Armor Crush, it would not work properly.
What's Next
We are getting close to the end of Early Access and the 1.0 launch. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

Note: Achievements and stats will not be counted on any games in progress from the previous version. They will be tracked starting with your first new game.

- If you used a healing potion while deciding which hero would take damage, that could cause the game to get stuck

- The warning confirmation displayed when using a potion in certain peril encounter situations had a glitchy layout
- Quickly clicking dice in a wide box will no longer cause a display glitch

Our second Early Access update brings hero progression and a few quality of life improvements. Read on for all the details!
Hero Progression
New in version 0.7, every time you take a hero into the dungeon she will gain permanent experience to build up her power in future games. After each game you earn check-marks to unlock up to 15 talents for each hero. Each hero has their own progression sheet that persists across all of your games.
Practice makes perfect! The number and color of check-marks you earn in a game depends on a few factors. You earn one check-mark for descending, one check-mark for leveling up, and three check-marks for defeating a boss. Higher difficulty levels grant bonus check-marks if you reach the boss. The colors you can mark depend on the dungeon. After an easy (one dot) dungeon, you can only check off green circles, after a medium (two dot) dungeon, green circles or yellow squares, after a hard (three dot) dungeon, any colored spaces including red ones.
A blank canvas to be painted... Once you unlock a talent for a hero it's available to use with that hero starting in your next game. Basic talents can be used in every game. At the start of each game, though, each hero must pick one other focus for that game. Starting skills, basic skills (from the Veteran talent), and talents are shown a little bit differently than regular skills so you can better keep track of your skill limit.
After a while, the Rogue is totally pumped up!
Consequences Preview
During an encounter, the Consequences box at the bottom of the screen shows you what will happen when you press End Encounter. This box includes all active effects, but it's not always obvious where the numbers come from. Now you can hover the pointer over the box to see a detail popup of how that's calculated.
There are Freezing Winds outside, let's go kiting!
Remove Dice Button
At the top of each encounter there is a new button that removes all dice from the challenge boxes and puts them back in the dice pool. This can be handy if you change your mind about your approach to the encounter.
I want that Heroic 4 back and I want it now!
Other Improvements
This update has plenty of other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones: Visual Polish:
- Added animation for descending
- Sharing a screenshot at the end of the game indicates that it was saved to your Steam Library
- The current state of the game is shown in the top right corner, and you can click it to see context-sensitive how to play info
- Starting skills are made visually distinct from learned skills
- Full size hero card shows multiple stat icons instead of a number (like the physical game)
- Show Gameplay Hints options checkbox now can be clicked
- With 2 heroes, you can now use any number of healing potions at the start of each boss round
- If you replace a skill or item during Claim Loot, the game will no longer get stuck on a later Claim Loot
What's Next
We have more big features on the way including a campaign/quest mode, Steam achievements, statistics, limited undo support, and more. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

The first update of the Early Access period is a big one! Two-hero gameplay and improved skill buttons are the banner features, but there's a lot more. Read on for all the details!
Two-Hero Mode
Now in version 0.6 you can take two heroes together to face the dungeon. The core gameplay remains the same, with a few differences here and there. New gameplay hints will pop up the first time you play in two-hero mode.
It's double trouble for this foe!
Improved Skill Buttons
Both 1-hero and 2-hero mode feature improved skill buttons with iconographic representations of skill & potion effects. More skills can fit on screen (especially in 2-hero mode) and are easier to see. You can still hover the pointer over any skill or potion to read the full text.
Gotta learn 'em all!
Extra Confirmations
We've received a lot of feedback so far, and one notable area of discussion relates to the usage of heroic feats, potions, and skills. In this update we've made some changes to help avoid accidental usage. Now by default, using heroic feats and potions will require two clicks instead of one. You can disable the confirmation click, and also enable it if you like for free skills. The End Encounter button will require confirmation if you could easily cover a challenge box with dice in your pool. Furthermore, we're planning more improvements in this area so that you'll be able to revert decisions in some cases.
Be heroic, if you're sure!
Other Improvements
This first update is chock full of various other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones: Audio:
- Added musical stinger when the party levels up
- If a die is already on a box (but not locked in due to an unfilled armor box), you can drag it off and back into the box properly
- More animations obey animation speed option: arranging dice after rolling, exploring, opening door
- New Game screen indicates if you haven't selected a dungeon or hero
- When choosing between skill options (e.g. Lucky Familiar) the screen dims to focus on that
- Improved dice rolling so they will not roll as much towards the bottom of the screen
- Hero stat panel highlights on mouseover so it's clear you can click on it
- Increased sensitivity on scrolling areas
- Esc key opens the menu in-game
- When claiming an item/skill as loot, you can replace an existing item/skill even when not at the item/skill limit
- Dice are reduced in size to improve placement behavior and other interactions
- Improved game layout on widescreen aspect ratios
- A visual indicator is shown when Hydra's Reef Poison Aura decreases a die value
- Dodge and Kiting show the boss-specific effect while fighting the boss
- The meaning of "X" on the Swarm effect and the Minotaur is made more clear
- The concept of mana is made more clear in the How to Play screen
- The restriction on the die from Mana Fountain is now shown visibly. This and the Armor Crush restriction are shown in How To Play
- Improved warning when using skill with invalid dice during a peril encounter
- Warnings about item/skill limits are shown before entering a room as well
- The dungeon card is accessible to view during the Claim Loot step
- The current XP level maximum items/skills and bonus encounter dice are indicated on screen at all times
- The details of hero items are shown automatically when claiming loot
- Dice rendering improvements when overlapping
- Fixed problem where a die could stay small after moving it from a skill button
- The restriction on the die from Mana Fountain is now saved properly when you quit/continue the game
- Fixed a bug that could occur by pressing Back from the New Game screen and then Continue Game
- Fixed a freeze that could occur when there were no heroic dice remaining in the general supply
What's Next
The next big feature coming up is hero progression and campaign mode. It's likely that we'll have a smaller update or two out before that major feature is finished. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

There will be bugs and there are major features still to be added before the retail release. Having said that, the Early Access version is fully playable with the 5 heroes and 5 dungeons from the core game. Upcoming Early Access versions will add 2-hero parties, character progression, campaign mode, and other improvements. One Deck Dungeon is a single player dungeon crawling adventure game. Each time you play, choose one of these 5 brave heroes:
- Mage - There's rarely a problem in the dungeon she can't solve with a spell.
- Warrior - Her favorite dungeon activity is squashing her opponents immediately.
- Rogue - Watch in awe as she dispatches monsters with style.
- Archer - Accurate, brilliant, catastrophically deadly.
- Paladin - She seeks out danger and shields her allies from deadly enemies.
There are 5 dangerous challenges to face:
- Dragon’s Cave - The thick-skinned wyvern who occupies this dungeon prefers her heroes on the crispy side.
- Yeti’s Cavern - If you can survive the freezing winds and biting cold, an abominable snowman awaits.
- Hydra’s Reef - Chop off one head, and another appears! This regenerating venomous monstrosity is a slippery foe.
- Lich’s Tomb - Hordes of undead foes, evil curses, and magical wards. What could possibly go wrong?
- Minotaur’s Maze - Abandon all hope, you who enter here!
Once you know your way around the dungeon, a game takes about 15 minutes. It might take a little longer if you're learning, or a lot shorter if you jump into a pit of spikes.
Warning: do not jump into a pit of spikes.
HELLO! Would it be impolite if I were to nom on your armor and weapons? That shiny metal looks oh so delicious. Oh --pardon me, how rude of me not to introduce myself! I am Glooping Ooze, one of the many extremely polite denizens of the dungeons in this area. I even have my own card:
Like all cards in One Deck Dungeon, mine is full of colored boxes, and HEY! What's the idea with all those arrows. Ugh, adventurers. So rude. So very very rude. I suppose you're rolling all your dice, attempting to fill in as many boxes as possible. For every one you don't fill, I'm going to make you pay for this arrow nonsense, in hearts and time! Precious time!
If you manage to get past me somehow, you'll be able to take Armor Crush as a skill, or add that magic icon on the left to your stats, or take the three experience lanterns in the upper-right.
Despite your arrowful attitude, I welcome you to the world of One Deck Dungeon. Adventure awaits!
