Our friends from TinyMagicians and HypeTrain Digital have just released a demo version of Outbreak Island - an open-world survival simulator with detective elements. We think the game deserves attention, so we decided to tell you about it!

[previewyoutube=O-jyhpW27U8;full][/previewyoutube]

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1442530/Outbreak_Island/

In the demo, youll play as Howard Chapman trying to get out of a mysterious underground laboratory. Use your camera and flash to find all the evidence and escape the insane human test subjects. Learn the tragic story of the head of the laboratory, who became a victim of his own research. Eat, drink, heal wounds, look for resources, craft tools and weapons on the go do everything you can to survive and reach the surface.

The laboratory will consist of four completely different floors. On one of those floors players will have to act as stealthily as possible, on the other try to survive in the pitch-darkness, and on the next one solve the mystery of experiments and find evidence.

We hope you enjoy Outbreak Island as much as we did. And check out the new trailer for the game, which is exclusive to IGN.

1 DAY LEFT - VAPOR-3 Reports

Greetings, Survivors!

An unnamed whistleblower recently provided us with several documents, leaked directly from VAPOR-3 servers. Among these files, some were particularly intriguing

Report File #001

Coordinates: 64.2005 N, 149.4937 W

Object: U.S. Navy Submarine SSN-792 Vermont

Point Of Origin: 8.7832 S, 124.5085 W

Report:

The Vermont was found during area survey by researchers and . This report is a transcription of their spoken word re-telling of the encounter with the Vermont.

We were patrolling through the woods - looking for the any evidence of Dark Matter , which began showing up more and more after the .

We initially thought that it was another part of the Kennicott Mining Facility, since the mines were scattered all over the area after the event.

However, upon closer inspection it turned out to be the hull of a submarine. How did it get there? It almost looks like it was just transported from somewhere - and just stuck into the middle of the land. Like a teleporter accident, where a guy gets stuck in the wall - like in one of those sci-fi movies, you know?...

We circled it a bunch of times before we found any markings on the hull - and after we found out the ships name, we immediately reported it to Mann. After a few minutes, word came back from the facility that there was a submarine that went by that name and number. In fact - there was a SSN-792 Vermont out in the Atlantic Ocean at the time, with its crew completely intact.

Soon as we heard it, a deafening thud shook both me and - and it sounded like multiple people, banging against the hull. Were those people, in fact, people or not - I dont know.
We ran off as fast as we could
Whoever could help the crew - it wasnt gonna be us.

Report File #002

Coordinates: 64.2013 N, 149.832 W

Object: Kennicott Mining Camp

Point Of Origin: Kennicott, Alaska

Report:

This bears many similarities to the Vermont Case:

  • This structure, originally found in the center of Kennicott, Alaska , has appeared in the vicinity of VAPOR-3 Facility
  • The structure appears to be a copy of the actual place - as the original in Kennicott is still intact.
  • The structure has undertaken heavy internal damage, with many of its interior destroyed.
  • Heavy Dark Matter readings near both structures.

However, what is different this time is this - the Vermont had the entire crew inside.
The building itself is completely empty. In fact, not a single trace of human remains were found in the building.

Some of our researchers reported sounds of footsteps and howling-like sounds - but no evidence supporting any kind of creature being inside the facility was found.

Will continue to investigate.

====

Report File #003

Coordinates: 64.2013 N, 149.832 W

Object: Dimension Portal

Point Of Origin:

Report:

This picture, along with the polaroid camera it was taken with, was found on grounds - along with other seemingly random items, scattered around the area. Some of the items closely resemble the ones pictured in the photo - especially the object itself, broken into pieces all around the area.

Near the camera was an Anchorage Aces hoodie, a pair of jeans and shoes. Presumably, these items belonged to the owner of the camera - however, there was no trace of the owner himself. More than that, there were no footprints, or any markings that couldve indicated a person being anywhere near the area.

The VAPOR-3 Researchers current theory is that the owner experienced vortex - however, how did he, along with , got there is currently unknown. Some speculate that he went hrough to the portal - and that the reason these have been appearing more directly coincides with increased activity near the Dark Matter core.

Of course, all of this still remains nothing more than speculation.

So, what other mysteries might await the survivors in Act 2 on their way out of the seemingly-normal Alaskan forest?...

Find out tomorrow, as The WIld EIght launches on October 3rd, at 9PM Pacific Time!

6 Days Left - Animals Of The Wild Eight

Hello, Survivors!

What is the Wild without any animals? Today weve got for you a mighty informative post about animals of The Wild Eight with the real-life facts about them!

Sitka Black-tailed Deer

The Sitka Black-tailed Deers are native to the Alaskan wilds. Over the years their range of habitat expanded and now they can be found in the lands many coastal forests. However, due to their diet, their population heavily depends on the severity of winters.

Since in The Wild Eight the spring might never come, in-game deers can be considered endangered species! Their only sustainable in-game source of food are those northern berries and mushrooms which are constantly getting plucked by the players. Maybe thats why its so much easier to tame them in The Wild Eight than in real life? So dont forget to feed your pet deer well you might be its last hope for survival!

Interior Alaskan Wolf

Despite its name, the Interior Alaskan Wolf is not even close to becoming domesticated and is instead called like this for inhabiting the interior part of the Alaskan wilds. They differ from their North American counterparts by a longer skull with bigger and heavier teeth in both jaws. Alaskan wolves have a very bloody history they were hunted extensively even before Alaska became a part of USA. They mostly rely on migrating caribou as a source of food. And this led people to believe that sudden drop in numbers for caribou herds was caused by wolf overpopulation.

While this is turned out to be mostly untrue in case of the real-life Alaskan wolves, in The Wild Eight they pose an immense threat! Especially for the players in the early stages of the game. However, there is very little food for them around, so they might be just incredibly hungry and not necessary bloodthirsty. Tame a wolf and treat it well and youve got yourself the most loyal and powerful ally!

Brown Bears

There are multiple subspecies of brown bears scattered across Alaska and its archipelagos. Dall Island brown bear which has a broader skull and almost black fur. The infamous grizzly bear with its slightly concave face, a distinctive hump between shoulders and noticeably longer claws. Kodiak bear thats inhabiting the Kodiak Archipelago for more than 10 000 years and can sometimes compete with polar bears in size. And the Sitka brown bears that look a lot like Alaskan grizzly, but inhabit only the Alexander Archipelago.

Apart from varying appearance, everything else about the brown bears is mostly the same -- theyre omnivorous, go into hibernation for winter, and are very protective of their cubs. The biggest threat to brown bears is industrial logging. And we all know that some players in The Wild Eight mow down trees faster than any industry can. Be mindful of the bears!

Alaskan hare

Also known as Tundra hare, has shorter ears compared to a normal hare and changes the colour of its fur through the year. It has brown fur with white underparts in the summer and fully white coat with dark ears in the winter. Tundra hare, unlike a common one, doesnt nest in a burrow but instead hides between the rocks and bushes of the Alaskan tundra.

In The Wild Eight Alaskan hares are heartless monsters. These little devils run away slow enough to look like a potential catch but are too fast to be actually caught by the player without any equipment. Teasing and exhausting the unfortunate survivors, hares lead to hundreds of deaths among the newer players [1].

Alaskan Red Fox

Another species of a canine family famous for their dexterity. Red foxes are introduced species and were brought to Alaska to be farmed for their pelts in 20th century. Wild foxes are not the strongest animals, so they usually run away from anything that can pose a threat including humans. Foxes are omnivores and easily adapt to any surroundings so easy, in fact, that they can harm the ecosystem in some cases.

In the case of The Wild Eight, nothing threatens foxes unless survivors are planning to hunt them for those sick fox-tail hats.

Boars or wild hogs

The population of wild hogs in Alaska is rather small and kept this way on purpose. These animals are considered highly invasive species that hurt the ecosystem on many levels. They uproot plant life, eat eggs of low nesting birds and even destroy crops in farmlands. Because of this, a hunting season for hogs is always open to prevent them from overbreeding.

While in-game boars dont cause any problems unless provoked, players at least can hunt them without having any regrets! Just make sure that you have an actual weapon equipped and not your pickaxe.

7 Days Left - Character Overview

There's only a week left before The Wild Eight 1.0 comes out - and what a better time to get better acquainted with the survivors of Flight IRIS 816! Each one brings something new and different to the table - so there's something for everyone in The Wild Eight!

William

In the past, William worked as an oil worker in Alaska so hes already quite used to the harsh local weather.

As someone whos used to tough environments, hes the most capable of the group.

At first, he didnt want to go back to Alaska he was planning to settle down in Portland with his wife and daughter, but the financial situation got too tough, so he was forced to go back to work.

After surviving the plane crash WIlliam immediately got himself together and quickly became the leader of the group. A man with a heart of gold and muscles of steel he stands when others fall.

Cole

Cole lived in Portland and studied to become a history teacher but soon after graduating he realized that it wasn't his calling.

He decided to devote himself to MMA and after his successful debut he began to win fight after fight. A good right hook has become his favorite way of communicating.

After seven victories in a row, Cole flew out to Anchorage to take part in his eighth fight. Cole is a brash, hot-headed athlete on his way to fame and he is the strongest one among the Wild Eight.

Vivian

Everyone always said that Vivian had the Midas touch no matter what she did, it always ended up leading to some kind of benefit or profit!

As lucky as she was, her brother Cooper was the complete opposite he always found himself in the worst possible situations, only to be saved by Vivian, again and again.

When word got out that Cooper was once again in a bad spot, Vivian flew out to Anchorage to get him. This time Lady Luck played a nasty trick on Viv she might have survived the plane crash, but whatever she faces next will show if lucks really on her side.

Anna

Anna is an exemplary pharmacology student at the University of Anchorage.

She went to Portland to visit her relatives over the holidays, but on the last day of her visit, a heavy snowfall started.

Anna quietly decided that she would spend the night at her parents' house and fly out tomorrow. That extra day would become the reason she happened to be on flight IRIS 816, which crashed in the middle of the Alaskan wilds.

Anna is the youngest of the group, but thanks to her specialty she knows how to be valuable to the group she gathers the medicinal herbs and plants and uses them to heal others.

Chang

Always smart and motivated, Cheng was naturally a quick learner staying one step ahead of his peers in the curriculum.

He chose "Improvement of Alaska's mineral exploration and extraction techniques" as the subject for his bachelors thesis. Soon he was contacted by Anchorage Science Centre, who offered Cheng a good position and a promising career. Eight days later Cheng was already getting on a plane.

His smarts will be of great use in any situation - and even here, in the wilderness, he has no equal.

Jeffrey

Jeffrey is a brilliant engineer. He collects various devices and mechanisms, and he loves nothing more than spending time alone with them.

The company he was working for was expanding a new office was to open in Anchorage. Jeffrey immediately volunteered.

After the crash, Jeffrey was dealing with nature, face to face. A perfectionist at heart, Jeffrey has always believed that whatever he did, everything had to be perfect. so crafting became something he excelled at.

Oliver

Oliver is a successful young entrepreneur, the owner of various well-known ventures.

He flew out to Anchorage to meet with potential investors, but the plane crash delayed the meeting indefinitely.
Oliver doesnt like to talk about his work now he knows full well that in the wilderness, it doesnt matter how much money you have. Only real skills will ensure your survival.

He adapted his exceptional problem solving skills to his new surroundings proving that no matter the difficulty, any trouble can be eventually resolved.

Robin

Robin is a young biathlete, winning championships eight years in a row.

Together with another member of the national biathlon team, he flew to Anchorage to the training base. They were sitting next door, but when Robin came to his senses after the crash, he saw that his partner was already dead.

Heartbroken and devastated, Robin quickly realized if he doesnt pull himself together, hell end up just like his partner. Thankfully, years of experience in biathlon have given Robin good marskmanship skills, and his athletic physique allows him to be the fastest and most agile in the group.

The Wild EIght - Update 0.12

Hows it hanging, Survivors!

The 0.12 update is now live!

This is going to be the final update before the Second Act - so before we move on, Id like to stress an important point:

This update is going to wipe the save files of every user - this is due to our work on improving the netcode.. We apologize for this issue, and will do our best for this not to happen in the future.

Now, onto the new things waiting for you in the update:

Lighting

The new and improved lighting makes the wintry Alaskan landscape look clear as a crisp spring morning. We hope that youll enjoy the way the game looks now!

Randomized Item Containers

Boxes and containers with randomized loot are now scattered all over the Alaskan forest - adding new flavor to an already familiar place!

Crafting re-structured

Weve remade the recipes for some of the items in the Workshop, and added new crafting components - all designed to make crafting in The Wild Eight more streamlined and, most importantly, fun! Plus, you never know - some of these crafting components might be of use later

Improved Combat

From new attack options, to new visual effects - a lot of work was done on the combat in this update. You can now use any type of attack while moving, and each successful hit is now accompanied with a satisfying shaky-cam effect.

Creature AI improvements

Everything in The Wild Eight is constantly changing - and the numerous creatures that roam the wilds are no exception. The AI is now more refined and responsive, not to mention unpredictable!

A few Quality-Of-Life features have been added to the game, aimed at making our players experience a bit less challenging. The Wild Eight: Shadow Hunt has arrived!

Hello, survivors! The long polar night of no content updates is finally over! Were thrilled to release a new major update for The Wild Eight called Shadow Hunt. The harsh lands of Alaska will present new challenges for the survivors with the introduction of the new boss and the food spoilage system!

Main features include:

New quest: find the mysterious totems around the map and get the clues for lifting The Curse Of Wendigo. Face Wendigo, the dark manifestation of the ancient indian evil, himself. Explore the darkest corners of the abandoned museum or study the bizarre stonehenges.

Food spoilage system: gone are the times when you could always have a fresh snack in your pocket. All of your food items now have three conditions - Fresh, Spoiled and Rotten. The freshness is portrayed by a bar in the lower part of the item and its description. The freshness decays at a constant rate that can be slowed down by storing the food in the snow or in the Chest.

New accessory and vanity items: pay homage to the indian heritage by wearing the Native American garb and fight the cold with the lighter which will help you lit campfires easier.

UI Improvements: a fresh coat of paint for all of the main parts of the interface and player HUD.

And even more additions and fixes: improved visuals for the world and its creatures, animals re-balance, tweaks for melee combat and all weapons.

Patch notes:

  • Added new quest Shadow Hunt. Find the mysterious totems and find a way to summon and defeat Wendigo!
  • Introduction of the Food Spoilage system. Your foods Freshness is portrayed by a bar in the lower part of the item icon - if it reaches the end, the food will become too rotten to eat!
  • Several UI elements received a visual upgrade: Shelter UI, Workshop UI, Equipment UI, Quest Panel, Toolbar, Weapon Slots, Stat Bars.
  • Adjustments to melee swing speed. Melee combat now has faster swings.
  • Weapon rebalance. Toned down overall power of melee weapons due to faster swings. Overall power of melee combat should remain roughly the same.
  • Changed control scheme for ranged weapons. Guns and Bows now both control differently. With Guns you now hold RMB to aim and then press LMB to fire. Bows require aiming with RMB, holding down LMB to charge the shot and firing by releasing LMB.
  • Added Survey button to the Main Menu
  • Rebalanced animals. All animals now move faster and the wolves have had their stats re-adjusted.
  • Added new visuals for wolves
  • Added camera shake for combat interactions
  • Fixed an issue with Metro interface not opening or ceasing to respond when called from the panel on Mirror station.
  • Fixed Isaac disappearing from the tile dedicated to Lost Future quest after players appearance
  • Fixed Isaac spawning in the wrong place or under the tile
  • Fixed the items disappearing from the Workshop if its inventory hasnt been changed after building in the case of its removal by Packing Up or due to the player's death
  • Fixed an issue with the item drop button switching weapon slots
  • Fixed left mouse button not looping attacking action when pressing and holding it right after another attack
  • Fixed one of the cars giving 100 scrap in Shadows In The Night sidequest tile
  • Fixed the tree in one of the tiles lying horizontally despite being available for harvesting
  • Fixed Throwing Stones disappearing mid-air on The Bunker tile
  • Fixed some tutorials being longer than the Quest Panel

We hope these changes will reinvigorate your surviving spirit and make the game more enjoyable! And if you happen to run into some bugs -- were always happy to hear your feedback in The Wild Eight's Steam Discussions thread or our official Discord channel.

The Wild Eight Beta is here!

Were finally ready to introduce the new changes and fixes into the game! But not just yet -- if you own the game, we invite you to take part in playtesting the beta version of the update. Participate in beta, share your feedback and lets make The Wild Eight better together!

New Mechanic - Food Spoilage

Get used to it - Food wont last forever anymore!

...at least in the beta, for now.

All of your food items now have three conditions - Fresh, Spoiled and Rotten.
Your foods Freshness is portrayed by the bar in the lower part of the item - if it reaches the end, the food will become too rotten to eat!
The condition of your food is also shown in the item description and is indicated by the color of the bar - Green, Yellow, and Red respectively.

The status of your foods Freshness is portrayed by the bat in the lower part of the item - if it reaches the end, the food will become too rotten to eat!

You can also slow down the spoilage by:

  • Storing food items in the Chest
  • Keeping food in the snow, which makes it Frozen - and lowers the spoilage rate.
  • Eating it as soon as you find it!

Were still working hard making sure this feature is implemented properly - so make sure to leave your thoughts about this system! That way well make it better in no time - especially if you fill out the Survey, conveniently placed right in the Open Betas Main Menu.

Animals

Following the updates to pathfinding, all animals now also have higher movement speed.
Also, the Wolves received a visual update and have new, rebalanced stats.

Balancing

Faster melee. Melee combat now has faster swings.
Weapons rebalance. Toned down overall power of melee weapons due to faster swings. Overall power of melee combat should remain roughly the same, but it now feels more responsive.
Ranged Weapon Control Change Guns and Bows now both control differently. With Guns, you now hold RMB to aim, and then press LMB to fire. Bows control similarly, except for one major element: you have to charge the arrow by holding LMB - and then release LMB to fire it.
Pistol rebalance. Pistol now has a more reasonable level of power.

Visuals and UI

New UI. While its still a work in progress, player HUD and all main windows got a new look.
Camera shake. We are introducing the camera shaking effect for more visual feedback.
World visual update. The in-game surroundings received some little tweaks to their visuals resulting in better image quality.

New Content Update Announcement + Release Date Moved

How are you holding up, Survivors?

Weve got a lot of news for our players in this update - some good ones, and some not-so-good ones as well.

Lets start with the good news first!

Introducing

The Wild Eight: Shadow Hunt

In the Shadow Hunt update, players will uncover the mysteries of an ancient Indian curse of the Wendigo, which for ages haunted the wilds of Alaska. Discover the mythical creature, and defeat him to rid the land of the curse!

  • New Quest The Wendigo Search for clues on how to summon the mythical creature of the Alaskan wilds, and defeat him to lift the curse.
  • Combat re-balanced visual and stylistic changes to the combat system, aimed to smooth out the gameplay experience.
  • New Feature Food Rot The Wild Eight just got more complex! The food you store in your inventory wont stay there indefinitely - it will now slowly turn bad, becoming Spoiled and, over time, Rotten. Keep your food fresh by keeping it in the cold - or storing it in your Chest!
  • UI additions between some last-minute UI polish, How-To Play instructions and other small improvements here and there, were finalizing the overall look of the games interface.
  • Emotes a new way to communicate with the other players around you, no chat required!
  • More side content new locations, in-game creatures and wildlife re-balanced, and more!

All of this awaits you in The Wild Eight: Shadow Hunt, coming to Steam on April 22.

....And thats not all!

All of our players will be able to test out the features included in the Shadow Hunt update before the official release of the update - and give their feedback directly to the development team, via Steam Discussions threads or our official Discord channel.

Well carefully examine all of the reports from our player base, and will tweak and balance those features accordingly.

Well reveal the dates, and features released for testing in the very near future - so check back here soon to become one of the participants!

The Wild Eight 1.0 Release Date
And now, unfortunately, its time for some bad news - The Wild Eight will not be able to make the previously-announced March 2019 release date as well as August 2019 for console ports. We apologize for misleading our audience.

Some time ago, we faced a choice - either to make the deadline, and release an unpolished product, with some of the planned content either missing completely or not realized fully - or to finish what we started, and take a longer time doing it.

For a long time weve been deep in the trenches, working hard on eliminating all of the bugs and issues that were caused by completely re-working the online infrastructure - a job that was needed to be done in order for our multiplayer to function properly. That increased the overall development cycle, but was ultimately worth it in the long run, allowing us to eliminate future issues with online - whether its on Steam, or consoles.

Were not able to give an exact release date to you yet - but our current plan is to finish work on The Wild Eight by the end of Q2 2019. Unfortunately, we cant give an exact date at the time - but well announce it in a short while, so please stay tuned!

Once again, thank you for your time, and have a great day,
HypeTrain Digital Development Team

New Interface

To make sure the game is fully playable with a controller, weve given both the main menu and in-game HUD a major overhaul! Its more practical than the previous version for multiple reasons - just as an example, the game now has a Mini-Map! The new style also gives the game a new, fancy feel, which we hope youll enjoy.

Changes To Game Session Structure

Weve decided to give players more freedom in regards to how they want to experience The Wild Eight. Starting from 0.10, you wont have to choose between Single-player and Multiplayer every time you start a server - now, youll be able to change between those modes right from the Pause menu!

Had a fun time exploring Alaska on your own, and want your friends to join? Thats great! Got really far in a public game, and want to play alone, while keeping the characters experience and items? No problem!

Network Optimization

Last, but certainly not least! As weve mentioned in the posts above, at a certain point in development we realized that our network solution had to be re-designed - and it took a lot of work, but we did just that!

No more of that pesky de-synchronization, no servers dropping for no apparent reason, and finally - 8 people can play the game on the same server without any netcode issues! (Hopefully.) So, were excited for you to give it a go and tell us your opinion! Please Note - there still may be some kinks to figure out with the new netcode, so please be patient - it will get perfected over time.

Please Note

Due to significant changes in the games architecture, the support for previous versions save files is now limited. Saves from 0.9 will be converted, and all of your progress will be brought over to the new version! Save files made on older versions (0.8 or below) will, unfortunately, not be available for use.

All of this, along with multiple bug fixes and balance changes, will be available on December 19th, 6 PM GMT / 12 PM CST / 1 PM EST - when the 0.10 Update becomes available!

P.S. You can try out a Beta version of the 0.10 Update right now! See this post for more details on how to join the Early Survivors, and try out the new features for yourself!

Development Blog: Upcoming changes

Hey survivors!

Today we would like to take a moment to share some details on what the development team is working on right now and what will happen with The Wild Eight this Fall.

We’re currently preparing a very important update for The Wild Eight. This very update was the reason why we kept silent for the last couple of months. Our goal is to improve the player experience and bring lots of new features to the game in the future.

Network improvements

Lately we’ve been revamping our network system to provide smooth and stable performance. We completely changed the structure of the multiplayer by introducing a new, more streamlined networking system. For the sole purpose of bringing you the best multiplayer experience we’ve created a whole new network architecture.

The host machine will now give permissions to the client machines and manage the synchronization. Previously the world logic was running on both host and client PCs. This caused lots of issues including actions leading to different results on client PCs. The new approach will also help reduce server load and in general has proven itself to be way more stable.

Moreover, our new system will allow players to switch back and forth between singleplayer and multiplayer anytime. So The Wild Eight will have fully functioning Drop-In-Drop-Out Multiplayer. Therefore, you can invite your friends to the game you started solo or just continue playing on your own using the same session you had with your friends.

UI rework and controller support

You asked, we listened - UI will also be receiving a major visual update! We’ll be adding a mini-map that should help you navigate the world more easily. We also didn’t forget about the general map - it also receives some visual and mechanical improvements. Other UI elements will get enhancements here and there as well for a better experience.

Moreover, we’re not only working on the visual improvements, but also adding the long-awaited full controller support. And we must say that The Wild Eight feels just right when played with a gamepad.

New content

We’re also very excited to introduce all the new content we’ve been preparing. The content update is coming in a bit after the performance one.

Get ready for a new adventure with a new Quest we worked on lately. The Quest takes place in the new location - Alaska Visitor Center. Are there any survivors hiding inside? Why does this place feel so gloomy? Discover the secrets of this mysterious place.

Of course, lots of other additions are on it’s way so we guarantee that you’ll have fun exploring everything we worked on.

Recent update summary

In the previous several updates we’ve added quite a bit of new stuff to the game. For those who missed out on the game during the summer we will give a brief overview. We’ve added a player revival for the multiplayer mode, blueprint system and snow piles. Of course, we didn’t forget to add new content like new weapons, items, side quests. Besides that we fixed lots and lots of bugs and introduced a new improved pathfinding system.

We hope you’re as excited about the upcoming changes as we’re! Stay tuned for more updates, we’ll make sure to come back with some content to show soon.

0.9.23-0.9.25 – new pathfinding system

Hey survivors!

0.9.25 contains a renewed navigation pathfinding system, which ensures a smoother in-game animal movement. From now on, creatures in-game create their path not by using a regular square grid, but using a Navigation Mesh. This system will minimize issues, in which creatures got stuck and stopped moving altogether.

Be warned, you may still encounter some issues with animals moving through terrain - and we will resume our work on improving pathfinding and eliminating any issues that might occur. We would also greatly appreciate any and all feedback concerning issues you may encounter in-game.

Other improvements and fixes:

* Your blows now hit both animals and objects when they are standing close to each other
* Fixed a bug that forced a 'black screen' after teleporting into the past in 'The Door' quest
* Fixed a bug that made animals stand still and not drop resources

    Development update: Network code rework

    Hi!

Today we want to share some details on what the development team is working right now and what will happen with The Wild Eight in the nearest future.

In January we decided to take the plunge and rework the netcode from the ground up. It takes almost all of time of our engineers and they need around a month to implement it into the game.

Does the game really need it? Absolutely! It will fix most connection and desync problems we’re having, and will also let us add new game mechanics and content way easier.

Why wasn’t it done right from the beginning? There are a number of reasons: for original developers it was a first big game project and weak points were unavoidable. Also requirements to the system have been changing during the development, which also led to the increasing complexity of the architecture. Now, with a more experienced team and stable core mechanics, there is no doubt that new netcode is what the game needs.

We will keep you informed about all progress that’s been made. It will take some time, however - and we implore you to be patient. Thanks!
