Happy new year! A minor update with a little gift

Hey everyone! Happy new year! We have just pushed a minor Slybots update... in a sly way :) If you open Steam today, the game will update itself and you'll see a new - albeit temporary - festive version of Slybots. Two things have changed:

    • First, you'll see on the battlefield a new "weapon": the Champagne Bottle. What better way to celebrate the new year than to spray your foes with a bottle of Moet et Chandon? Warning: it's harmless.
    • Two: you'll see Christmas presents popping out of the Transport System every now and then.

But be warned: You have only 5 days to enjoy the new stuff. So, try Slybots before the 6th and celebrate with us! (and did I mention it's still 30% off? hurry up, guys!) Happy Sly Year, everybody!

    Merry Frantic Christmas!

Hey everyone! The Christmas holidays are upon us, and hopefully you're using this extra free time to play through the games backlog you surely have, like us! It seems you liked the new name, and that many of you decided Slybots was a good party game to play these holidays, between one mega-dinner and the other! <3 Thanks!
This is very motivating as we move closer and closer to the release, which is going to be... I can't say yet when! :D Stay tuned for more news early next year! - Team ERROR

Meet Slybots: Frantic Zone. Now at 30% OFF!

Hey everyone, it's been a pretty long time since the last update, anyway here we are with some juicy news. Lately, we've been working on a lot of stuff. We are now getting ready for the big launch in early 2016 with many enhancements and a brand new name, Slybots: Frantic Zone. Today, were proud to announce weve just added compatibility with plenty of different controllers (Xbox One, PS3, PS4, etc.) in addition to Xbox 360 and Steam Controller, and keyboard/mouse of course. Aside from several bug fixes, such as different colours for players in team matches, removed pointer in menus, an improved Doppelganger clone, we changed the graphics, focusing on the stealth mechanic elements (Transport System entrance, Invisibility plate, Doppelganger plate), to improve the game experience. Weve also created RoboFlak, a new robot with totally redesigned graphics and animations. So guys, if you havent purchased the game yet, this is your moment. Christmas is round the corner and so are party games! There's never been a better time to grab Slybots at such a steal of a price. You will have tons of fun, while supporting the last stages of development. Happy holidays!

    Quick development update

Hey everyone! Just a quick update on the development and about the game in general (there's a lot of stuff to handle outside the development itself!! :D) We are slowly rolling towards a full release of the game. We don't have a final date yet, but we'll announce it soon, and the release day itself is going to be not very far in the future. We also are a bit stretched after taking part in a couple of live events (we spoke about the GamesWeek Madrid here). These events have proven to be very interesting in terms of contacts, as we met people that are going to help us in making FATAL ERROR even better. As such, we are not going to release a full update this weekend. We're probably just going to push one of those 'stealthy updates' with mostly bug fixes. We have some BIG changes to make, and you're going to see them very soon - don't worry. PS: if you haven't got the game yet, don't forget that it's going to be at 20% off for a couple of days as a part of the Halloween sale! Until very soon!

New build B07 - "King of Errors" is live!

Hey everyone! A new FATAL ERROR update is live! This one is one of our biggest updates so far, with a brand new game mode (Endless Mode) complete with support for Steam Leaderboards, 5 Steam Achievements (and more to come), a new scenario for the aforementioned game mode (called "Great Escape"), a new robot (a minion called "Chromo"), improved feedback all around, possibility to change the language from inside the game, new glitchy menu graphics, and the usual plethora of bug fixes.

    Endless Mode

"You are not getting out of here so easily!" Endless mode is a new single-player game mode based on high score. You have to protect an exit from waves of endless black little robots, which will do anything to get through the exit portal. They'll use the Transport System and other stealthy tricks to confuse the player and get to the exit. How long can you keep them out? The mode only has one scenario for now, but in future updates we'll add more stages and more ways to play, like Hack the WiFi, and each one will have its own Leaderboard.

    Changelist

Here's a complete list of the changes:
    • Endless game mode and a new stage Great Escape (https://trello.com/c/x9nDz3pO/54-endless-survival-mode)
    • Steam Achievements (https://trello.com/c/zLttXeMO/22-design-the-achievements)
    • Ability to change the language from the game menu (English, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Swedish, Neapolitan)
    • New glitchy menus (https://trello.com/c/ZO3uUjgI/101-flickering-logo-and-menu-backgrounds)
    • Feedback when taking damage (https://trello.com/c/o4sxart1/119-feedback-on-damage)
Psst! Don't forget the game will be 31% off until tomorrow! steamhappy Until next update!!

FATAL ERROR at Madrid GamesWeek (and we won an award!)

Hey everyone! Sorry for the radio silence, this past weekend we didn't update the game, we know! The thing is, we've been to Madrid GamesWeek, a 4 days game event in the Spanish capital, to showcase FATAL ERROR in the MadeinSpain Games booth together with another 30 games...
Well guess what? People absolutely loved the game, and in the end we won the AUDIENCE AWARD!! Out of all the dozens of games in the MadeinSpain Zone, we were voted the most fun of all! How cool is that? We brought a special challenge to the fair for people to test their FATAL ERROR mojo... it was a "simple" path they had to walk in under 3 minutes:
    Many tried, a few succeeded:
And by winning that, we gave a cool t-shirt. Like the one this guy won:
In general, Madrid GamesWeek was a lot of fun and a lot of work (44 hours of work at the stand in 4 days!! Plus a bit of bug-fixing during the night steamfacepalm ) We found out once again people love the game, and we came back more happy than ever. Now, let's get back on track with the regular updates, shall we? See you next weekend with some news!

New build B07 - "Guiding Light" is live!

Hey everyone! New build is up, and this week it's right on time!
It's the seventh update we do for Early Access, and we have called it "Guiding Light" because it's full of challenges that will guide you through the basics of the game: controls, aiming, the sword, the weapons, and hiding. For instance, this one is about using the sword to attack and to deflect bullets:
We are very happy of how the challenges turned out, and we can't wait for your feedback! Since it's a tutorial, we made them quite easy. Don't worry if you blaze through them super-fast: the next ones are going to break your (robotic) bones! In the next build, we're going to add the Endless mode, with Leaderboards! And more challenges! And save games! And Achievements! ... and whatnot! (as always, keep an eye on the Roadmap to know where we're going) See you in a week!

    The full list of changes:

    New:
    • Way more challenges (https://trello.com/c/SEHTgdOL/106-challenge-stages), and in detail:
    • In the Dark (https://trello.com/c/C2wcyHj1/109-in-the-dark-aiming-tutorial)
    • Refined Swordman (https://trello.com/c/KmfSpxhF/113-refined-swordsman-sword-tutorial)
    • Delivery Package (https://trello.com/c/RxVsviqD/115-delivery-package-compact-tutorial)
    • The Sheriff (https://trello.com/c/VwLyVymh/114-the-sheriff-shooting-tutorial)
    • Shooting Range (https://trello.com/c/eLbTBsfP/116-shooting-range-shooting-tutorial)
    Changes
    • Transport System exits now show button prompts (https://trello.com/c/JldlxK9I/103-add-button-prompts-on-transport-system-exits)

New build B06 - "Lone Wolf" is live!

Hey everyone! New build is up: B06, codenamed "Lone Wolf"!
The biggest single addition to the game this week is the Challenge mode. It is a mode that's composed of a string of challenging scenarios, mostly single-player, that have a difficulty that ramps up from "trivial" to "impossible". The first ones are basically a big tutorial: they teach you the controls and the basics of the game. In the current update, you'll find only a few challenges though, but don't worry: the biggest part of making that game mode was setting up the whole structure (which is what we just did), while more and more challenges will be coming fast in the following days and weeks. Another cool thing we added are full-screen effects (see image above). They're currently active for every Quality level, but we'll give you a way to disable them in case they slow your computer down too much. For the complete list of changes and new features, here it is: New:

    • Single-player Challenges (https://trello.com/c/kJngfDty/53-single-player-challenges)
    • Added fullscreen effects: SMAA anti-aliasing, bloom effect (https://trello.com/c/6UC29Vn8/104-full-screen-post-processing-effects)
    • Challenges music track (https://trello.com/c/JgU8vpSU/57-challenges-track)
    Changes:
    • Greatly improved rendering (very technical :D)
    • Small changes to how sword/gun control is handled (https://trello.com/c/Ov7uzX3l/97-swipe-sword-while-shooting)
    • The usual 1000 bugs fixed (see here: https://trello.com/b/fo6bDn4z/fatal-error-bug-tracking)
As usual, keep following the Trello board to see the latest features "as they're made", and post your opinions here in the forums!

New build B05 - "Fix Tape" is live!

Hey everyone! Sorry to keep you waiting, for we usually release on Friday and today is Sunday... and yet, we haven't really kept you waiting, since this wasn't supposed to be a release week. We decided to break the release plan and push a new build a bit earlier, to fix a few bugs and address a couple of minor things related to button prompts and languages. As such, we dubbed this release "Fix Tape"! Here are the changes: New:

    • Custom cursors (https://trello.com/c/oMJ2CvTf/89-custom-cursor)
    • All screens now show button prompts for both controllers and keyboard (https://trello.com/c/Vy3jYuQn/94-keyboard-button-prompts)
    • Added German, and revised Spanish translations
    Changes:
    • Fixed a stupid bug we added in the last build (https://trello.com/c/cpYBw1VD/43-match-doesn-t-start-when-playing-without-ai)
    • Improved tutorial to clarify things (https://trello.com/c/u2923sVf/42-tutorial-refers-to-the-crates-but-there-s-only-one-crate)
See you next Friday for a new build!

New build B04 - "The Penguin" is live!

A new build, B04 codename "The Penguin", just went live. The biggest news is: we have Linux support now!
Building for Linux from Unity was smooth as silk (thanks Unity Technologies!), the only issue was a bit of fighting with Linux libraries. But, we came through as victorious! So enjoy the game, because it runs super smooth! (this being the game in motion on Vine) Besides this, you'll find just a few changes which might seem minor for now, but they're paving the way for bigger stuff. Basically we just reworked all menus to be slightly smaller, to accommodate more options as the come in the next updates. New:

    • Linux platform (https://trello.com/c/Ia6k0oQX/46-linux-build)
    • Added Spanish localisation
    Changes:
    • All menus are now translated (https://trello.com/c/Icim357s/93-translate-all-menus-part-1)
    • Improved in-game menu (https://trello.com/c/fw3w7hTN/90-better-menus-during-match)
As always, if you want to contribute with translations (we need everything except Italian and Spanish), please get in touch! So yeah, this is it for now... but expect more news (and maybe more frequent updates) in the coming week! Hasta pronto!

New build B03 - "The Core" is live!

Hey everyone! The heat of summer is on us, you’ve probably gone to gamescom (or maybe not) and as we move towards the peak of August, FATAL ERROR update "B03: The Core" is live. And this one is called “The Core” for a reason. You know FATAL ERROR’s core gameplay is based on deception and “hiding” on the same screen. Until now, we only had one mechanic: the Transport System (the purple holes that teleport you on the conveyor belts in the form of a compacted robot). This update introduces not only one, but two new ones: the Doppelganger (on Trello) and the Invisibility (on Trello)! The Doppelganger is activated by a green plate you step on, and as soon as you do, a clone of your character is created. The clone is identical to your robot, and it mirrors its movements along an axis (depending on the stage, sometimes it's vertical, sometimes horizontal). The clone is vulnerable and can't kill nor take the Database, but you can use it to confuse your enemies and make them feel under attack when in reality... you're somewhere else.
The name of this mechanic comes from the German word Doppelgänger, which represents "a clone that looks and moves in the same way". As for the Invisibility, it's what it sounds: step on a blue plate, and your robot will became nearly invisible as long as he doesn't shoot or dies. When you shoot, you become visible again. The robot is never 100% invisible, and players with a keen eye might be able to spot invisible opponents. (psst: we have a million changes in mind related to these mechanics already, graphic adjustments, AI refinements, and whatnot, but they're going to come in the next update!) Along with these new powers, we have created 3 new stages (2 Solo stages and one 2v2) taking advantage of the new mechanics: Dungeon, Bloodbath and Construction Yard, upping the stage number to 9 now! We have started the process of translating the game. We only have English and Italian right now, but we're going to implement French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Swedish, and (probably) Norwegian, Russian, Polish, and Finnish as soon as possible. We are going to crowdsource the translations, so if you want to help us in the translation or know someone who does, drop us an email at info [at] fatalexcerror [dot] com. We will give you (or your friend :D) one or more copies of the game as a thank you, and obviously put your name in the credits of the game. Apart from this, there's always a plethora of minor changes and fixes, which you can find in the Build description on Wunderlist, but here's a recap: New:

    • Invisibility stealth mechanic (more..)
    • Doppelganger stealth mechanic (more..)
    • Game translated into different languages (more..)
    • New stages specifically built for the new mechanics
    Changes:
    • More feedback on every player action (more..)
    • Sword kills are worth more (more..)
    • Streamlined menus and method of control (more..)
    Bugfix:
    • Inaccurate mouse aiming (more..)
    • Lead Drone still moves during pause (more..)
    • Players already have guns in the tutorial on the second time (more..)
    • Transport entrance and invisible portal block shots (more..)
    • Highlighter a bit off during pre-match players setup (more..)
    • [Claimed fixed]Scores stuck on animation (more..)
    • [Claimed fixed]Sometimes the Orb is spawned twice per match (more..)
Please, play the game with us and tell us whether you like or not the new mechanics and the new stages, and what would you change. As always, your feedback is gold! Enjoy FATAL ERROR responsibly! - Ennio Team ERROR

Hey everyone! Here we are: 15 days have passed and we're live with the first real Early Access update. We tried to keep quiet and not shoot too high for the first update, but nevertheless we got something you might like (which was requested several times): 2vs2 Team-based matches! And with it, 3 new maps made especially for teams! Apart from that, the usual plethora of fixes and improvements. Here's the full list: New:

    • Team-based Capture the Orb mode (https://trello.com/c/QUFtNGtO/61-teams)
    • 3 Maps designed for team-based matches (https://trello.com/c/DNWeg90e/83-2vs2-foundry-stage)
    Changes:
    • New robot 3D models, improved animations (https://trello.com/c/tosxsDDw/12-new-robot-3d-models)
    • Changed models for bases and spawn points (https://trello.com/c/eQKRML4Y/80-separate-base-and-spawn-points)
    • Changed the Orb into the "Database" (https://trello.com/c/50pdXWWN/50-change-the-orb-to-another-item)

New build B01 - "Quick Fox" is live!

We have just put online a new build, a quick update after yesterday's release nicknamed "Quick Fox". The biggest introduction is the possibility for player 1 to play with a keyboard and a mouse. We also shuffled the options around a little bit, and they all save for the next session. We listened to your feedback (we promised, remember?) and we made the AI a bit dumber, but we also offered the ability to choose from 3 difficulty levels. This is the full list of changes: New:

    • Keyboard always active in the menus Player1 can optionally play with a keyboard/mouse
    • Control schemes are explained in the Controls menu
    • Many settings are stored (audio levels, controls, graphics) between sessions
    • AI has 3 different difficulty levels, which can be chosen
    Changes:
    • Implemented performances whenever bots were present in-game
    • Flying Drone projects a purple light, so it doesn't feel like it's associated to the green player
    • Many small fixes here and there (see https://trello.com/b/fo6bDn4z/fatal-error-bug-tracking)
    Hope you enjoy this update!

Early Access is A-GO!! (+ Videos)

Good news, everyone: FATAL ERROR is now live on Steam! Please get it while it's hot, and help us shape it with your feedback! For those of you who missed it, we posted a small trailer yesterday: https://youtu.be/UvIlYXc8Aac In the video you can hear part of one of the fantastic tracks ("Lé Saboteur") by our composer Joakim. The soundtrack is really great, personally I'm in love with the menu theme! Here's also a video of gameplay, from the three stages we have for now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RmR8nnXDrw This time the background track is called "Brawl at the Ironworks". See how in the last 30 seconds it goes up in rhythm? Those are the seconds where everything can happen! Hopefully the videos will give you a clear idea of what the game is about, and how fast-paced it is. So please, get the game, play it with your friends, and leave us suggestions and comments in the Discussions! Hope you will enjoy FATAL ERROR! - Team ERROR

It's almost time for Early Access!

Hey everyone! We have worked very hard these past months, and FATAL ERROR has transitioned from being "a nice prototype" to a real project with a real schedule! As FATAL ERROR was born in game events, and especially under a heavy barrage of player feedback, we decided that the most natural way to develop it was to continue with this process. Because of this, we have chosen to release the game in Early Access so you can have a peek at the development as we work towards the full release. We want players to be part of the process, and we have setup many tools to gather player feedback and be as transparent as possible during the coming months. In short, there's a board on Trello to see all the features that are in the making, one for the bugs (pretty empty, eh? we're the best developers in the world), and a Roadmap of future milestone builds with a rough list of the features that each one will contain. You can find all the details here. Also check the Early Access description on the game page for more info. So hang tight for a week, 'cause FATAL ERROR will be available on the 13th of June 2015. In the meantime, you can follow it by using the Follow feature on the game page. See you very soon!!
