Ooh, that's crunchy. The DUSK graphic novel has now become over 300 pages and we're talking to publishers about turning it into a hardcover book because honestly, we have to at this point...

Welcome back once again... Today we bring an update for all the WORTHY playing DUSK in 2024. Updates to both the DUSK SDK and DUSK HD (with more soon to come)
The DUSK SDK is getting a sizeable update today! With better Quake and Half Life map support as well as the ability to make ENDLESS LEVELS, fixing some major bugs and advanced music scripting!
New Entities
info_playlist
Creates a music playlist. Give this entity a targetname, and assign a sequence of music tracks by setting track0, track1, and so on to music file paths.
trigger_playlist
Activates a music playlist. Set the target to the targetname of an info_playlist entity, then trigger the trigger_playlist in order to begin playback. You can set shuffle to 1 to enable shuffling of the playlist, and loop to 1 to cause the playlist to loop. When a playlist is looping, you can use a trigger_changemusic trigger to stop it.
point_template
Used for creating enemy templates that are later spawned with a trigger. Refer to the Source point_template documentation for further details. DUSK additionally supports specifying teleportfx 1 to spawn teleporter particles on each enemy spawned.
info_endless_node
This entity will trigger its target when a new wave begins, if the current wave is greater than or equal to its first_wave property. The last_wave property can be used to disable an info_endless_node starting from a specific wave.
trigger_remove_target
This entity will immediately delete any entities it is targeting when it is triggered.
You can now create Custom endless maps by setting endless to 1 in worldspawn
Enemy template entities also require an endless property set to 1 on them in order to be tracked as endless wave enemies
Fixes/Changes
- Fixed memory leak when finishing a custom level
- Fixed fence texture rendering for embedded BSP textures
- Game will now default to D3D11 instead of OpenGLCore
- Fixed load order buttons in modding menu

As for DUSK HD: Garumin has been a busy boy! So much so we've had to stop him from adding more things to DUSK HD and save them for mods on the Steam Workshop!

Five years. It's been five long years since we launched DUSK v1.0
Even longer than that if you count Early Access and the two years of development that started in 2016. And throughout all that time, we always promised to make DUSK as open and moddable for you as we possibly can. But what we didn't promise you was a full remaster of the game only 5 years after its release. And that's what we've somehow done. What started as a fun way to beef up the DUSK Steam Workshop soon evolved into a full blown visual remaster thanks to the hard work of a group of very talented developers at New Blood under the supervision of David Szymanski, myself (Dave), our QA Lead Cam, Dev Support Lead Scott, and the rest of the New Blood crew. So much so that we've decided to make it into its own FREE DLC that you can download and play without having to install anything else... RIGHT NOW.

This massive undertaking has been the work of primarily two of our developers. Ben "Zombie" Moir has been rewriting DUSK from the ground up for nearly 5 years and David "Garumin" Bonin has remade every single visual asset from DUSK by hand over the last two years as well as creating all new ones to add to DUSK HD. And unbeknownst to them, all the profits from DUSK for the month of December 2023 will be split between David and Ben. Don't spend it all in one place, lads. The entirely new enemy and weapon models were made by our 3D artist Cody Lambert and all the new animations you see were made by our animators Dom Antonazzo and Lachlan Milne. These developers all started out as external contractors for us and because of DUSK HD they are now full time New Blood employees working across all our games. WELCOME TO THE CULT.

First off, let's go over what's in THIS small update we just pushed.
Save deletion!
Finally, you can delete your DUSK saves in-game. Sorry it took us 3 years to add this feature. There's also neat new icons so we don't have to localize the words SAVE / LOAD / DELETE into more languages!
Next up...
A CONTINUE button!
As you may remember, DUSK was released episodically throughout 2017 / 2018. So in order to start a NEW episode you had to go back to the main menu after you beat every episode.
Well NOT ANY MORE. Now you can play right through all 3 episodes of DUSK without ever having to stop!
Go on, try it... taste the continuity.
And finally...
a MAX LOADOUT button.
For when you want to start a level with MAXIMUM firepower. But less button clicking.
So that's what in the game NOW.
However... As part of our Switch port (which is totally almost finished we swear) we've completely redone the world map and loadout menus to be easier to read and navigate with a controller, keyboard, mouse and eyes.
And when we release those versions of the game?
We'll be simultaneously bringing the features from consoles (like that new world menu and the weapon wheel) back to the PC version.
As well as the Classic HUD we've shown off and been promising to you for so long.
I think we already told you this but anyway... yeah!

But this year we're not just bringing back Spooky DUSKWorld...

We've also updated both the DUSK SDK... AND THE MAIN GAME?!
That's right, thanks to our work on the Nintendo Switch verison of DUSK (which we just delayed, sorry) we've been making lots of performance improvements to DUSK.
GOOD NEWS is that some of those improvements are making it back into the PC Version.
STARTING TODAY.
Loading tunes? WHAT TUNES.
You will now load into DUSK almost instantly after the initial DOS bootup sequence. YOU'RE WELCOME. Don't ask how we did it... (You can also now add a "-skip-dos" launch option to skip the FakeDOS intro screen entirely.) But you shouldn't because it's super cool and retro. We've also re-written the achievement manager, as it contributed to a significant performance loss.
Shorter loads. Better performance. For DUSK. In 2020. Damn right.
But the DUSK SDK has also gotten a host of updates! BEHOLD
- Heavily optimized startup code, which fixes the infamously long "loading tunes" screen.
- Fixed health and armor being incorrect after loading a save on a custom level.
- Lighting accuracy in Quake 1 BSP (v29) maps has been improved.
- Cartdogs no longer spawn without a model.
- Wendigos now correctly spawn invisible.
- Missing models will now display as a cube.
- Idle animations in custom models will now play correctly.
- Added a -skip-dos launch option to skip the FakeDOS intro screen.
- Fixed a bug that caused music (and possibly other assets) to occasionally fail to load.
- Significantly reduced texture allocations when atlasing lightmap data, resulting in faster map loads and better performance.

Intruders! Been awhile... hasn't it?
Seems like we haven't spoken... in AGES. Well, we've been busy. And we've got a lot to talk about. Because we've got a lot coming at ya...
First and foremost, the DUSK SDK (DAWN) is nearly ready to start being tested!
And rest assured, this ain't no simple level editor, you're going to be able to do EVERYTHING to the game. Change, import and export every texture, model, level, sound... you name it. Hell, by the time DAWN is ready - it will damn near be its own engine.
Basically, if you can do it to Quake, you can do it to DUSK - and vice versa.
To that end: we've just published a simple API called The New Blood: Clot (get it?) that allows for exporting DUSK assets into .iqm format. NEAT. Try it for yourself, rip apart your favorite games! https://github.com/NewBloodInteractive/Clot But that's definitely not as cool as this sweet as '90s style launcher we made for the SDK!
But we'll talk more about the SDK soon...
We've also been hard at work on LOCALIZATION.
DUSK has now been translated in to:

David gave the world its first look at DUSK

Not long after that video was made - David sent me a test build of DUSK. He was a fan of some of my previous work and thought I might like it... and I didn't... But it IS important. As we work to put the finishing touches on the game - we've brought DUSK fully into Unity 2018. This will allow us to do much more with the game moving forward (like the Switch port) and streamline all of our processes. Huzzah! One way or another... Be it by sickle, by sword, by shotgun... or by old age while waiting for Episode 3. And now... more than ever - BY PROJECTILE
That's right - the latest DUSKWorld update FINALLY brings client side projectile fixes making the Mortar, Riveter and Crossbow not only viable MP weapons... but some of the best. Why the best? Because we also nerfed the SSG. Sorry not sorry. We've also completely overhauled Vestibule & Dusk of the Dead. Vestibule even has TEXTURES now. Woah...
Spectate mode now occurs on death!
Press LMB to switch between players if you get tired of stalking the guy who killed you...
The Welder has joined the fray! He's big! He's fat! He's got a welder's mask on!
With this latest update you'll find that DUSKWorld is not only more solid and polished but more BALANCED as well. SO HAVE AT IT. Now more than ever it's the best time to join the fight. We've even got new LFG channels in Discord.gg/NewBlood ... JOIN US. And since it IS the Steam Summer Sale - we went ahead and finally added trading cards, emotes and backgrounds! (They should be live SOON) Based on the art from the upcoming DUSK comic - we think they're all very unique and a fine addition to any Steam collection. Happy hunting.

Well, as we wrap up Episode 3 we'll be bringing the entire game into Unity 2018, revamping all of the in-game menus and options, adding achievements, maybe a in-game codex filled with dank lore? and much much more. Hello again, friends...
Over the last week+ since Duels at Dusk 2 we've released an update + several hotfixes for DUSK! The major changes include... *The NEW sword! (In SP and coming SOON to MP) The sword is now faster, beefier + can not only do a (silent) charged attack with more than 100hp...
but can ALSO now block/reflect when you have more than 50 morale. Go try it out!
There's now a player death animation and GAME OVER screen in both Campaign and Endless that will show you how many kills and secrets you got. mmm that's nice.
And don't forget there's now sweet sickle icons for completing all the awards in a level! Are you... UNHOLY?!
MOST IMPORTANTLY - there's now buttons on the main menu to get to DUSKWorld from DUSK and vice versa (as well as a New Blood website button for that sweet sweet upcoming merchandise)

We're being purposefully candid about a lot of things because we just really really really don't want to spoil a lot of the stuff we've got coming up. Trust me when I say episode 3 is gonna get WEIRD We're gonna turn you upside down and inside out
Yet, as you no doubt noticed above - one of the biggest changes we've made is to The Sword. No longer a hidden and useless weapon, the sword is now faster, stronger AND can also reflect projectiles! (if you have more than 50 morale)
And we're so in love with the way the new sword works that we're not going to wait to give it to you - it's going into the next patch which is coming THIS WEEK steamhappy
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.
That patch will also bring DUSKWorld updates like a new map, new playable character and Spectator Mode. There will even be some Single Player quality of life imrprovements like a new GAME OVER screen and color coded sickles for level awards on he world map D

That's right - the first ever DUSKWorld 1v1 Tournament is happening NEXT WEEK on Friday, February 23rd at 4pm Central time (10pm GMT) steamhappy Seeing as this is our FIRST tournament and DUSKWorld is still very much in a BETA state, we're keeping this tourney relatively small + low key for now but you can sign up at Discord.gg/NewBlood (check #dusk-events)
What can you win? Well, we've already announced that we'll be giving away Steam Gift Cards but I'm here to tell you we'll also be giving the winners brand new (and shiny) keyboards & mice from our friends at Corsair. You can't very well play DUSKWorld properly with some old garbage KB+M, can you? OF COURSE NOT.
Meanwhile - the news of this 1v1 "FRAGSTRAVAGANZA" doesn't come without news about DUSKWorld itself! So here's what you can expect in the upcoming versions of DUSKWorld - some coming as soon as NEXT WEEK: Spectator mode (how else you gonna watch the tournaments?!)

It's been two weeks since we launched DUSK in Early Access - and as you've no doubt noticed - the response is now officially, undeniably, OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE.
The team is ecstatic, thrilled and humbled - but this is no accident.
Those of you who have been here with us since day zero know that we've been building this game WITH YOU from the very beginning and that this outcome is the result of us building DUSK brick by brick, level by level, hup by hup with your feedback and guidance the entire time.
This is the result of never rushing, never stressing, and always communicating with YOU.
Because of YOU, people now know exactly the kind of game DUSK is, exactly the kind of player DUSK is for, and exactly just how legit it is at being both of those things.
So we're here to thank you once again. The reason this game is what it is and the reason we're here - is because of you.
But remember that THIS is only the beginning.
Work on Episode 3 continues and DUSKWorld multiplayer updates will keep coming during Early Access. New servers, new features, new fixes, new models, new maps, new modes, but the same old GLORIOUS gameplay. But don't just expect updates: During Early Access we'll also be running DUSK single player contests, DUSKWorld multiplayer tournaments, and of course continue hosting community Frag Night every Friday.
