More zombies and less bugs in the DLC

Greetings, Officers!

After reviewing your feedback, we updated the Zombie Case DLC to make the gameplay more enjoyable for you:


  • Made the zombies slightly weaker than before, but they're still a serious threat;
  • Redesigned zombie missions:
    a) Changed zombie spawners and suspects;
    b) Overall, there are more zombies and civilians, but fewer bandits;
    c) Some rooms now only have zombies in them;
  • Fixed a bug with using a defibrillator on a partner in cooperative mode;
  • Missions will now not end as long as at least one infected person remains on the map to avoid conflicts at the end of the level;

Improving the balance in Zombie Case

Greetings, Officers!

Today we have made small changes to improve the balance and gameplay in the Zombie Case DLC:


  • Increased the viewing radius of the zombies. Now they will attack the suspects in the room more often, rather than attacking the policeman immediately. But the logic of their behavior is the same - they attack those who are closer;
  • The time limit for the time bonus on all missions from Zombie Case and Story of Charlie McDennis has been increased.


These are not the latest innovations to improve gameplay with zombies, which we will be adding to the game soon. We hope that your opinion on the DLC will be better because we are trying for you.

Fixes in the Zombie Case DLC

Greetings, Officers!

While work on Police Stories: The Academy continues, we're polishing up what we've already released. In particular, a lot of work is being done on the Zombie Case DLC:


  • Fixed an issue with the partition wall display on the left side of mission 12 of the main campaign;
  • Fixed an issue with passability in the sofa area in the first Zombie Case mission;
  • Fixed zombie spawning, now the "heaviest" zombies will not spawn in the first levels of Zombie Case;
  • Fixed a problem with evidence spawning in some missions;
  • Slightly reduced zombie health to make it a little easier to deal with them.

We listened to your criticism of the DLC, so there are still more balance tweaks to be made to the Zombie Case DLC in the future.

The Academy References and Easter Eggs

Fixing bugs

Hello, officers! We continue to improve Police Stories, and today we made a small update.


  • Fixed a bug with the "Gunsmith" achievement (unlock all equipment). Now the achievement is displayed correctly.
  • When using the antidote in the Zombie Case DLC, the target for the shot is now highlighted
  • Fixed a bug where the antidote was caught in the quick missions of the main campaign
  • Reduced the supply of pepper spray
  • Added collision of new objects

Update: Early access to DLC

We made a small update to Police Stories - now, users who purchased the Zombie Case DLC can play it immediately after entering the game.

Playing Zombie Case will not affect playing the main campaign. However, note: the equipment will be opened only with the passage of the main 18 missions.

Important: New missions assume that you are already familiar with the basic game mechanics of Police Stories and are ready to face even more difficult tasks.

Bugfixes and plans

Greetings, officers!

Today we want to tell you about the in-game bugs we fixed.


  • Fixed localization in German tutorial;
  • Fixed problems with display of Chinese language;
  • Fixed a bug with replacing partner's visuals with other visuals;
  • Fixed two misprints in the cutscenes;
  • Fixed a bug with new missions not being displayed to players;


We know that the "Open 22/23 gear" achievement exists. We are working on it!

We also want to warn you that we are working on making the Zombie Case DLC walkthrough available to players after the 4th mission of the main campaign, not after the 23rd. Unfortunately, this will take a little longer. We'll keep you posted.

Zombie Case is out now!

Greetings, officers!

What haven't Rick and John encountered yet? This time its something much more interesting! No manual tells you what to do when facing the living dead! Help our heroes prevent a threat to the safety of the world.

Note: you can access new missions from Zombie Case DLC only after completing the main story campaign. However, we know that you may want to fight with zombies even earlier. That's why a special patch will be released by March 29, which will unlock the Zombie Case walkthrough after the 4th mission from the Police Stories story campaign.

[h2]New character - zombie[/h2]


  • A zombie has a unique and universal behavior pattern - it will attack the nearest living character;
  • Unique characteristics of each zombie: some of them will be faster than Olympic sprinters, and others will be real tough nuts. Stay alert;
  • Zombies are just as much of a threat to the bandits; they will try to eliminate them. Use this in your calculations;


[h2]Infection mechanics[/h2]

  • Zombies are dangerous because they quickly reproduce their kind. One hit from a zombie and a person becomes infected;
  • After a while, the infected person will turn into a zombie;
  • If the infected person dies before the timer expires, he will also turn into a zombie;


[h2]Antidote[/h2]
The police laboratory was able to find a quick solution in the form of an antidote. Use it on bitten characters to stop the infection.

Each of the 6 suspects can now hit you with the buttstock, and some will even hold only a knife or a bat from the beginning.

Zombie Case: New Locations And Types of Zombies

Hello, Officers!

We continue to talk about the upcoming Zombie Case DLC. Todays menu: screenshots of new locations and zombie types.

[h2]New Locations[/h2]

In Zombie Case you will have to visit not only crime scenes, but also a police station that has been attacked by zombies. The hall of justice will be a difficult place to survive, because there are a lot of hidden places and nooks. Stay alert!



We decided to work on the locations even harder and add more memorable moments and mini-stories to them. For example, there was clearly an accident here, and the driver flew out of the window. But there's no sign of his body...



[h2]Types of Zombies[/h2]

Some zombies will need a special approach. Some are too tenacious, others are very fast. They all differ in appearance (for example, the zombie in the screenshot has yellow skin colour - it is very fast), so you can quickly identify them and choose tactics to neutralize them.



This is only a part of the innovations, and we will tell you about the rest in the next development diaries. Police Stories: Zombie Case will be released later this year and will be a paid DLC for the main game. We will also announce the release date a little later. Weve been preparing this Police Stories version for a long time. An updated partner with improved AI. A new police story telling about a crazy anarchist Charlie McDennis. Finally, a Halloween mode in which youll meet the long-awaited zombies for the first time.

[h2]1. Partner with a switchable behaviour[/h2]

[h3]Passive mode[/h3]



  • Enabled by default;
  • The partner behaves as before, acting strictly on the players orders;
  • The partner will pay attention to the points of potential threat;
  • If the partner is left idle (not on the order), he will return to the player.


[h3]Active mode[/h3]



  • The partner will stand still only by the order of the player, in other cases he will return to the player automatically;
  • The partner himself looks at the points of potential threat, from where the suspects are expected to appear;
  • When meeting a suspect, the partner now independently takes actions to neutralize them if the player is not nearby:

  • Find your way to deal with an unexpected threat.

Yes, it's another Beta branch update! Most likely it's the final one before we move it to the public. That's why it's more important than ever for more people to check it to make sure everything is top-notch.

Based on your feedback, we decided to give players the ability switch the partner AI behavior on the go.

[h2]You can now access 1.4.2 Beta Version through Steam by choosing it in the BETAS tab (Right-click on the game in your library > Properties > Betas > Select open-beta > Download the update).

Beta 1.4.2 is full of new features:

[h3]New campaign is updated[/h3]


  • The new story becomes available after completing the main campaign;
  • All new missions are slightly reworked from the last beta version;

[h3]Partner character can now switch behavioral modes.[/h3]

Passive mode is enabled by default:

  • The partner acts strictly at the player's command, not performing any autonomous actions.
  • The partner will now notify players of potential threat points;
  • If the partner is left idle (no orders given), he will return to the player-controlled character;


When you point the cursor at your partner and press the orders key, you can activate your partner's aggressive mode

  • The partner will only stand still when ordered by the player, otherwise he will always return to the player-controlled character automatically;
  • The partner is on lookout for points of potential threat, from where suspects might appear;
  • Encountering a suspect, Rick will automatically take action to disarm him, if the player-controlled character isnt close by:
    • He first orders him to surrender;
    • He uses physical force if suspect doesnt comply;
    • If the suspect becomes aggressive or resists arrest, Rick might apply lethal force;
    • If a suspect decides to flee, Rick will chase him for as long as he thinks its safe;
    • Rick will automatically pick up weapons dropped by suspects;

  • If a suspect has given himself away, Rick will be ready for to take action;
  • Players commands have the highest priority except for the times the suspects take up arms.


The partner AI turned out to be a major challenge, and we wanted to have a well-polished feature. A few delays had to be made for better player experience. We hope you enjoy Rick's switchable behavior.

We received a lot of useful feedback on the new AI partner. Taking into account your comments and analyzing the situation, we decided to make a few more changes.

The main guideline in these changes to the partner was that we wanted to make him a second player able to act autonomously, but still be dependent on the main player. We overdid it a bit with his aggressiveness, so we made him a little weaker.

One of the most popular complaints we receive since the game release is about partners AI. Now it's time to fix it.

In 1.4.0 our aim is to make sure Rick is a real aid to the player, and not just a dummy carrying grenades.

Weve added a tutorial window with destructible walls to the first level. Now new players will be aware of their presence in the game for sure.

Our team would like to thank all content makers. We watched a lot of your Police Stories playthroughs and realized that destructible walls were not visible enough. Therefore, we decided to make them animated so that you no longer have to strain your eyes.

1.3.1 - Balance Improvements

Greetings, officers!

This small fix-patch is devoted to your feedback. We read all your commentaries, reviews, complaints and suggestions, and, of course, analyze them. Many players experience difficulties with the completion of missions. The game still has a high entry threshold, which not everyone can handle.

We have lowered the penalty for mistakes, making it easier to beat the game overall. However, if you want to complete the game with a high score, youll have to spend the same effort.

Also, players have difficulty in situations where negotiations are already useless, and delay can cost Rick and John their lives. The heartbeat quickens, and the blood boils, as you made the difficult decision that the only way to stop the criminal would be to shoot, and every millisecond becomes worth its weight in gold. But at the most important moment, the hand of the police officer shakes and the bullet doesnt hit the target, while the cold-blooded bandit deals with the lawkeeper with one precise shot.

We have slightly increased the accuracy of the police officers, while the criminals have become slightly less accurate, which increases your chances in a firefight at long distances.

Thanks to everyone who leaves feedback. Thank you for your responses to the last survey. Weve received a thousand replies a lot to think about. We continue to work on the game and make it better.

The following bugs have been fixed:


  • After completing missions in online co-op, an error no longer occurs, which made it impossible to pick up evidence;
  • Melee strikes no longer pass through doors;
  • Fixed a bug that prohibited shooting after pressing reload and firing at the same time;
  • Fixed a crash in local co-op when the second player selected a shotgun;
  • Fixed a crash when you started the game without selecting the main weapon.

1.3.0 New Weapons & Destructible Walls!

Greetings, officers!

It's time for some great spring news meet update 1.3.0!

Much work has been done, and now wed like to share what awaits you in the largest update in a long time :)



Firstly, weve added 5 new weapons to the game. One is stronger than the other, and now theyre getting unlocked as you progress through the game and complete missions. To keep you on your toes, the game now starts with the weakest weapon:


  • R226 pistol, with which normal walking becomes faster (initially unlocked);
  • Automatic submachine gun NP5, which is already familiar to players (gets unlocked after the 2nd mission);
  • Pump shotgun Moss 500 (gets unlocked after the 8th mission);
  • Automatic carbine MA41 (gets unlocked after the 10th mission);
  • Semi-automatic rifle AAR 15 (gets unlocked after the 16th mission);
  • Automatic shotgun Stelvio M4 (gets unlocked after the 17th mission).



New shot sound effects have been added to all new weapons. All weapon mods work differently for new guns.



Secondly, destructible walls have been added to the campaign. They break with 8 melee hits, 8 shots, or the installation of explosives on them. But here's a piece of advice: do not spare resources for their destruction, because they give a great tactical advantage!

Thirdly, we fixed some bugs and slightly tweaked the balance. We know that the game has a high entry threshold, so the bikers (the main enemies in the first levels) have been weakened. We will continue to work in this direction to make the game even more friendly and more fun.

Following bugs have been fixed:


  • Game crashes in local co-op mode;
  • AI ally now indicates a bomb on the map when he sees it.


We are also aware that with the 1.2.3 update, certain issues with Mac OS appeared. Unfortunately, therell be no updates available to Mac players until we fix this bug. We are trying very hard, but have not yet figured out how to do it. And so that players on different platforms can play together, weve opened version 1.2.2 on Steam for Windows users. You can access it as follows:

Right-click on Police Stories in your Library > Properties > Betas > Choose 1.2.2 > Download the update.

We sincerely hope that this will serve as a temporary compromise solution while we continue to work on resolving the issue.

1.3.0 Open Beta - Multiple Weapons, Breakable walls

One of the most requested features is ready for your test! Were excited to announce the open beta test of the new upcoming version of the game, in which you can switch between 6 different weapons and break walls!



Whats new:


  • Weapons

  • R226. Police officers pistol. Low ammo, high accuracy. If youre going to shoot, then dont miss your chance.
  • NP5. Golden classics. Automatic submachine gun. Mobility, ammo, damage it has it all.
  • Moss 500. Pump shotgun. Reliable and irreplaceable assistant. High firepower and low rate of fire.
  • MA41. Automatic carbine for serious situations. It will ensure fast and powerful shooting.
  • AAR 15. Semi-automatic rifle. Shoots rarely, but accurately. Will not let you down at any distance.
  • Stelvio M4. Automatic shotgun. Totally indifferent to the number of enemies. Try not to hit your friends.
  • Destructible walls
  • Rebalance: the game starts with a R226 pistol, bikers are slower.

You can access this new version through Steam by choosing it in the BETAS tab (Right-click on the game in your library > Properties > Betas > Select open-beta > Download the update).

Since this is a beta of an upcoming update, you can come across various bugs, balance imperfections, and so on (the product is unfinished after all) wed be glad to receive any feedback, which you can share with us through Steam Discussions. Please note that this beta is only available for Windows, and only in English and Russian languages.

1.2.3 - Bugfix Patch

Greetings, officers!

While the next large update is on the way, we continue to polish the game on a regular basis. Here is a list of all the changes:


  • A bug that caused a game crash when selecting a map from the Steam Workshop has been fixed;
  • Gamepad controls and detection in co-op mode have been fixed;
  • Discord link in the main menu works again;
  • Lots of Korean players complained about an inconvenient font. It has now become more readable;
  • Female characters now dont refer to themselves as males in some languages;
  • Some of the spelling errors and text bugs (when certain text blocks didnt fit on the screen) have been fixed.

    1 Year Since Release: Results and Plans!



    Hey everyone!

    Todays the big day for the project its been exactly one year since the first release of Police Stories on Steam and Nintendo Switch. A lot has happened in a year, be it projectwise or not, but youre still here playing the game, and we want to sincerely thank you for that!

    Wed like to take stock of the projects evolution and briefly review the results weve achieved so far. So, lets get started!


    • More than 150k game owners at the moment (Steam, GOG.com, Nintendo Switch).
    • Implemented Online Co-op, Customizable controls, Custom Missions, Quick Play.
    • Launched Level Editor on PC more than 200 user levels are already available for download from Steam Workshop.
    • PlayStation 4 Release.
    • And now were actively working on Xbox release, which is coming quite soon!


    Oh, and not to mention numerous patches, bugfixes and so on. It always could be better, but weve been working on Police Stories a lot trying to improve and enhance the experience it provides. And, to be honest, we think we did quite a good job!

  • Level Editor for the Drawing Tool now automatically shows the fields for setting parameters for the items to be displayed (for those that have them).

    1.1.0 Online and controller fixes

    Hello Officers!

    In this update we improved online co-op stability and controller support. Also you can now find new civilian type monopoly of green men is finally over.

    All improvements:


    • New civilian type added - woman in blue
    • Smoother corners of shadows
    • Potential online multiplayer bug fixes, better stability
    • Correct localization for Custom Mission Mode was added
    • Fixed errors preventing proper obtainment of certain achievements
    • Bugs in localization and item description text displaying in some languages were fixed
    • Shaky aim bug appearing in certain situations was fixed
    • Readability of character-based languages was improved
    • Gamepad aim control got smoother
    • Button icons and buttons in DualShock 4/Xbox One Controller tutorial slides are now displayed correctly


    You may have noticed a slower pace of the new updates lately it was mostly due to preparing the game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And we're glad to say that the largest part of porting is left behind and we're coming back to the main game. So please stay tuned for more updates in the nearest future!

    Our 1.0.9 patch is up, and we have quite the features in it Custom Mission Mode, Achievements and more! Please notice, that localization for the new content is coming in days.

    Custom Mission Mode

    You can use Custom Mission Mode to populate The House map only with terrorists and make your own top-down Rainbow 6 Siege. Truly case-hardened officers may test their skills by playing only with civilians and fake civilians on the map. Either way have fun fiddling around with this new feature!

    (Custom Mission Mode is coming for Switch in January 2020)

    Quick Play
    If you dont have the time to spend choosing suspects and a map we have a Quick Play option. Just click it and get right into action! The game will pick a random map and populate it with random suspects.

    Steam Achievements
    Achievements are here! Now you will get acknowledged each time you do something profound. Like forgetting your police training and blinding yourself with a flashbang! Or thinking that you can do everything yourself and detonating a bomb by cutting the wrong wire! Or ruining the crime scene by leaving bloody footprints everywhere (poor forensics team)!

    Changes to Input Hot Swap
    Weve received a number of reports from players who couldnt play properly on a keyboard because theyve had some other controller connected. Our solution was to remove hot swap function from the missions and leave it enabled only for the Main menu. For situations when you want to switch to another controller during the mission you can use the Options menu.

    Good day officers!

    In our continued effort to improve Online Co-op experience we've prepared a new update!


    • Fixed the incorrect voice lines for Rick in co-op
    • Possible fixes towards the black screen issue they should be mostly gone, but we continue our work on fully resolving this problem.
    • Fixed a crash when selecting the equipment for Rick in single player mode.
    • Fixed equipment duplication in online co-op
    • Fixed the issue where the chosen equipment wasnt present in the mission
    • Fixed issues that were causing crashes in online co-op. Were continuing to work on eliminating the rest of critical errors.
    • Fixed the issue where the main menu occasionally stuck on loading when returning from online co-op
    • Fixed incorrect placement of bullet particles after hitting the doors
    • Fixed a crash happening during Local co-op
    • Fixed the player in single player not being able to order Rick to unlock metal doors without interacting with it first.
    • Fixed a crash occurring when the player spammed E key and mouse clicks on the equipment selection screen
    • Fixed the bug, allowing Rick to endlessly switch to shield if the command wheel was opened on a suspect. Also fixed switch to main weapon command missing from the wheel.
    • Fixed the game copying the path to its executable file on the first start
    • Possible fixes towards game performance on integrated CPU graphics.


    Of course, these are not all bugs which were reported and we continue working on fixing them!

    1.0.5 Online Co-op Bugfixes

    Greetings officers!

    We've fixed some of the critical issues with online co-op all thanks to your feedback!

    Changelog:
    - Fixed the critical error that occurred when the players tried to connect through Steam invites;
    - Players are now able to properly join and invite to the game through Steam;
    - Fixed the in-game "Invite friend" button;
    - Fixed some of the issues with equipment loadouts;
    - Fixed the critical error caused by both players simultaneously using borescope on the same door;
    - Fixed multiple other smaller bugs.

    Of course, these are not all bugs which were reported and we continue working on fixing them!

    Online Co-op Coming October 2nd

    Hello officers!

    We regret to inform our audience that Online Co-op will be coming to Police Stories on October 2, as mentioned in the roadmap below.



    Weve worked extra hard to eliminate critical bugs before the games release, but, we just need a bit more time, since were a small team. Were confident in fixing the problems weve encountered in Online Co-op. Closed Beta participants know that it was already working very well in past.

    We will create a separate version of the game with Online Co-op available in the Beta branch, so that every owner of Police Stories can help us with testing. More details about the beta branch will be posted later in Steam Discussions.

    Suspect Types and Behaviour + Webcomic!



    Release day for Police Stories is getting closer and closer. To make the wait feel less daunting we will be sharing some info about the games core aspects. Today well be talking about types of suspects and their behaviour.

    Behaviour

    Each suspect in Police Stories has different behaviour and on top of that, it gets randomised each time you start a mission. As such, memorising their behaviour is crucial for a successful operation.

    If a suspect wasnt alerted to your presence he will either be on a lookout or patrolling surroundings. They react to loud noises like gunshots or explosions, so its always a good idea to act more discreetly in order to avoid taking unnecessary risks.




    • Aggressive
      Some suspects are going to open fire as soon as they spot you. If a suspect raised his gun youre allowed to use lethal force.

    • Fleeing
      Suspects can run away from you and try to find a better hiding spot. They may try to shoot you if theyre cornered but until they draw their gun, you should stick to non-lethal tools.

    • Refusing to comply
      Some suspects wont immediately act hostile towards you, but are still going to ignore orders. Same as before, use of lethal force is only advised when a suspect is aiming at you.

    • Holding a hostage
      In some cases, a suspect will hold a civilian at gunpoint ready to shoot as soon as he sees the police. Use non-lethal grenades or a breaching charge to ensure the hostages safety.

    • Surrender
      Even if the suspect surrendered, the threat is still present. If you decide to turn your back on a surrendered suspect, he may get his gun and try to shoot you.


    Suspect types

    Our heroes will meet a lot of different perps in the city streets. Each type of suspects carries different guns, has varying shooting proficiency and reacts differently to orders.




    • Thugs
      They are at the bottom of the criminal world. Like to act tough, but a lot of times they try to run away or simply surrender when ordered. They are armed with pistols and have poor marksmanship.

    • Rednecks
      Not very different in their motives from the thugs, but have much more experience with firearms. They also use more serious guns like assault rifles or shotguns.

    • Gangsters
      Members of street gangs and organized crime groups. They are seasoned criminals who dont think twice about breaking the law. Gangsters are less likely to surrender. Their weapon of choice is UZI.

    • Terrorists
      Mercenaries and fanatics, who see their attacks as the only way to achieve their goals. The terrorists are highly trained and have both good marksmanship and combat tactics. Most of them would rather be shot than choose to surrender.

    • Civilians
      Everyone you see on a crime scene is a suspect. Even if hes unarmed its best to put him in handcuffs until hes proven innocent. However, sometimes even civilians wont listen to your orders. They may stand in shock or try to run away in fear

    • Fake civilians
      After a couple of missions you will start to encounter suspects disguised as civilians. They look exactly like hostages but will act like any other suspect refusing to comply or even trying to shoot you.

    One month left! A look at Police Stories past and future



    Hello officers!

    The wait is almost over! Even though there is still some work to be done like game balancing, localization and bug fixing, we can clearly see the finish line as the game nears its September 19th release date.

    Police Stories will come to Steam and Nintendo Switch first, and then, later this Fall, to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, since we want to make sure that the players on each platform are getting the best experience.

    It took us nearly 4 years to finish Police Stories, and during this time nearly every aspect of the game was tweaked or reworked. Previously called Pixel Police, the game came a long way to becoming what it is today. Since the Greenlight Page for the proto-police is still up, you can take a look at the project and see the progress yourself!

    Lets take a look at the features which werent even planned in the beginning, but will be an essential part of Police Stories:

    1) Narrative


    At first we wanted to simply add more personality to the main characters. However, later we realized that an actual plot will add much more value to the game. And so weve put together a narrative for Police Stories, which gives context to the missions the player experiences.

    2) Online (Steam exclusive) and local Co-op Modes


    Having no prior experience of adding co-op functionality this was a hard task on which weve spent about 9 months. Yet the thought of abandoning this idea never crossed our minds. In the end weve successfully added local co-op to the console version of Police Stories, and online to the PC version.

    3) Full controller support

    This sounds like a basic task, but it turned out to be a lot harder than expected Police Stories features a command wheel which needs the player to be able to point at anything on the screen.

    Even after the games release we will continue working on the game: taking into account your feedback and implementing new features.

    First up is Custom Mode where players can select any mission and choose the types of the suspects. And after that, as a separate app, were going to release Level Editor which will allow players to create their own maps.

    Famous Video Game and Movie Cops that couldn't make it into Police Stories


    Robocop

    There is just so much that we love about the original Robocop movies: great satire mocking mega-corporations and blind consumerism, incredible action that holds up to this day, and even stands out among modern fights in cinema; gripping story about a protagonist finding his lost self and unleashing vengeance on the villians who robbed him of his normal life.

    But as cool as Robocop is -- meeting him in real life would be scary, even if youre not a criminal. His sense of justice is heightened to an extreme, where he would uphold the law in an extreme way - even in the most trivial cases.


    Leon S. Kennedy

    One of, if not the most recognisable characters from Resident Evil games. He officially worked for Raccoon City LPD for a whopping one day! But were sure that he would make a great police officer in real life.

    Though, its debatable, how Leon himself would think of such an opportunity. If he didnt go to work in Raccoon City LPD, his life as a cop would be a lot more mundane. Just patrolling the local suburbs and filling tons of paperwork. And anything beats paperwork -- even being chased by an ex-bodybuilder, dressed up in a trench coat and fedora!

    Since there are no zombies in Police Stories, Leon would probably be pleasantly surprised that his assailants dont take two boxes of ammo to put down. With his experience, he would be fine adapting to the new surroundings and make an overall great in-game cop. Though, we suspect that being such a hoarder, Leon would probably stash away any herbs he would find at the crime scene!


    Max Payne
    One of the first things that comes to mind when discussing the crime fiction is, of course, noire. And if were talking noire in video games -- story of Max Payne is one of the most famous ones.

    While working as a police detective Max is very focused on his task. But his determination mostly stems from his vendetta. Maybe, in a different life, where his family wasnt brutally murdered, hed be a regular cop and his life would go mostly uneventful. Still, being your regular police detective is a great deal of work anyway!

    Now lets imagine hed end up in Police Stories. Maybe with a different background, but retaining his signature Bullet time mechanic. Max would probably become a polar opposite of Robocop acing every mission, while taking his sweet, sweet time deciding on what course of action he would take! Please nerf!

    Level Editor, Nintendo Switch, Final polishing



    Hello, officers!

    Were happy to share some fresh news about Police Stories development.

    Level Editor
    Right now were working on the Level Editor. It will be available for Windows as a separate free application and will feature Steam Workshop integration. We really hope you will have a lot of fun sharing your creations and playing community created levels!

    The plan is to ship the editor with the base game on release, but we dont have any hard release date just yet.

    Nintendo Switch



    Were almost done with the Nintendo Switch port! It took us a bit more time to polish everything and make some final changes. But weve made sure to provide the best portable experience. The Nintendo Switch version will be slightly different from the PC version of the game: it will feature only a couch co-op, but youll be able to play with just one Joy-Con.

    We will make an official announcement once we have an eShop page and a new trailer ready.

    Apart from the Level Editor weve finalized all the main parts of the game. What we have to do now is put them all together. Currently were working on implementing tutorial tips and story cutscenes. Police Stories will not only provide a tactical action, but will also keep you engaged till the very end with a detective story full of twists! Weve also listened to your feedback and added more depth to AI behaviour. Suspects might now try to avoid open confrontation and leave the room to find a more advantageous position for the firefight.

    Were expecting that we will need 2 more months to implement all the features and finish language localization.

    Controller Support, Couch Co-op, Mac, And More



    Hey, officers!

    For the last several weeks weve been transferring the project to GameMaker Studio 2. Finishing this part of the development process allowed us to proceed to implementing some of the features we had planned for quite a while. As you can see on the gif, Police Stories is now both working on Mac and has a controller support!

    For now the Right Stick is responsible for aiming, which isnt very convenient. Were going to upgrade it with a more classic twin-stick approach, plus a special button combination to command your partner. Luckily, the menu is optimized for the controller since the very beginning, so most of the work is already done.

    Adding a controller support required us to upgrade the whole input system. It turned out to be a good thing, as now were able to implement changing control keys more easily.

    After finishing this part of the development, were moving to widely anticipated Couch Co-op. Aside from the tech side, it also includes update of the HUD.

    Here is a small list of features were doing next:


    • Suspects AI improvement Escaping from the room or the level
    • Destructible walls (not every wall will be destructible)
    • Difficulty Settings for each mission
    • Tutorial tooltips
    • Enhanced smoke/gas grenade mechanics


    And dont forget about the Storyline. We have some progress there as well! Even though mentioned features will take quite a time in implementation, we believe that they are necessary to make a game lots of people will enjoy.

This Open Alpha update features 3 levels, one of which is available in Open Alpha for the first time.This version also includes some of the new mechanics we worked on as long with 3 kinds of enemies, each having different difficulty and weapon set.

    Current Development Status, Open Alpha Update, and more



    Hey, officers!

    Its been awhile since we last shared details on our development process. But rest assured, weve been working hard on making sure that Police Stories is worth the wait.

    The most important and time-consuming part of the development lately was the story. Weve been working day and night to think of the best way to tell you the stories of John Rimes and Rick Jones. A lot of the ideas got scrapped because they were not good enough for our players. We want to give you the best experience with our game and now were finally on the right track.

    Of course, our team was also working on improving the game from the inside. We improved our AI for both Rick and enemies. Now theyre doing a much better job at finding their way around with our improved pathfinding system. Also weve added the ability to shoot through the doors.



    Additionally we worked on polishing the visual effects. Melee combat is now way more impactful as weve added blood splats. Weve updated the explosion effect and some of the animations, for example the one for the stunned enemies.

    And most importantly, weve decided to update our Free Alpha next week!

    We know that a lot of players want to try out some of the cool features they saw in all the new Police Stories gameplay videos. We heard you and we will deliver. Were adding a new mission for you to play, some new items youve probably seen on the videos and some other Closed Beta content. But no Co-op this part stays exclusive for the Kickstarter backers.

    Unfortunately, we cant give you a release date of the full version yet. At the moment there are still so many aspects affecting the timeframe at which well be able to deliver you the full version of Police Stories.

    [Kickstarter] Updated Closed Beta is now Live for all backers



    Greetings, officers!

    Check the updated Closed Beta of Police Stories, which is now available to all Kickstarter backers. To find your key please check email from ib@hypetraindigital.com.

    It includes the tactical tools which you can equip before starting a new level and use during the operation, new sprint mechanic, breakable windows and VHS effect (can be disabled in the settings). We unlocked first 3 missions, so that you can jump into new levels without having to play first two missions from Alpha again.



    Here is a full list of available equipment:

    Smoke Grenade
    Motion Sensor
    C4
    Defibrillator
    Pepper Spray
    First Aid Kit

    (we will add more tools in the full game, some mechanics will be updated as well)

    Use [1], [2], [3], [4] buttons to select equipment while playing. We will be grateful for any feedback regarding the use of tactical equipment and any issues you might stumble upon while testing it. We want to make these items highly useful and fun so that player can rely more on a tactical approach rather than on the reaction time alone.

    Please note that weve disabled multiplayer options for some time (couple of weeks) since it needs more polishing. We will unlock it back soon.

    Commands in a row



    Just a little note to keep you updated!

    While improving player's interaction with AI mate, we finally decided to add an option to give him commands in a row.

    For such an interaction we use holding SHIFT + RMB for now, but may change to something else. Maybe it should be a standard option your thoughts are highly welcome. Also some UI visualization and changes to officers' speech are definitely needed.

    Equipment in Police Stories



    Stealth is what youll use in Police Stories a lot. We've also been pretty stealthy with the development lately. But let's put an end to this!

    Today, wed like to share some info about the use of tactical equipment in Police Stories.

    With a few changes to the controls layout, the player can now use all equipment without the help of a partner: explode doors with a C4, throw motion sensors and smoke grenades, use pepper spray to neutralize suspects and many other equipment will be available at your disposal!



    We did not reach the desired polish on both visuals and some in-game mechanics, but our final goal is to get the game to a point where the player can spend hours experimenting with different tactics for better results. Also, since all equipment will be unlocking gradually with your in-game progress, youll be able to replay old missions with new equipment - and maybe get a higher score!
