Greetings, fellow detectives, On October 18th, we released the next chapter in our thrilling saga, Kona II: Brume. Take a glimpse into the unfolding mystery with this trailer: [previewyoutube=Gs6MFVTsYGk;full][/previewyoutube] Our tale resumes right from the conclusion of Kona. Venture further into Manastan's environmental enigma. Seek answers to Carl's unnerving hallucinations and uncover the cryptic tales entwined within Hamilton's properties.
The North, Rendered Beautifully
Kona II: Brume is crafted using Unity's latest High Definition Rendering Pipeline. Every visual element has been designed to harness its full potential, offering a visual experience that surpasses its predecessor, especially on top-tier hardware.
A Different Experience
Though Kona II: Brume shares familiar elements with the original, it ventures into uncharted terrain. While the first game had you combing through houses, this sequel guides you to Hamilton company's properties, and introduces you to other enigmatic survivors. With new modes of transport, an engaging dialogue system, and innovative features, Kona II: Brume stands distinctively on its own. We've poured a lot of passion and dedication into this sequel, and we sincerely hope you find it as enthralling as we do. Oh, and Kona is off 75% for the occasion (starting at 10 AM PT), tell all your friends :)
Cheers and enjoy the investigation! - Alex and the rest of the team at Parabole

Hi everyone, As a follow-up to our presence at Gamescom 2022, we have decided to release the Kona II: Brume demo here on Steam for the Next Fest, a multi-day celebration of upcoming games! The demo starts at the very beginning of the game. The player steps into the shoes of detective Carl Faubert, and must explore his surroundings in order to find out more about a strange phenomenon called the Brume. It presents the first thirty minutes of the experience, and showcases several items useful to Carl's investigation and survival. The demo is for Windows only, and requires a fairly decent GPU, such as Nvidia RTX 2060 or higher. The game is still in development, so you may expect a lot of improvements and optimisations in the final game. On top of this, we're revealing a new trailer: [previewyoutube=VL8pJBb4bv0;full][/previewyoutube] If you have any feedback or question, feel free to ask in the forums, or join us on Discord. We hope you'll enjoy! Cheers :) - Alex

Hi everyone,
Its been a whilefour challenging yearssince we last shared anything substantial with the world. There will be a time to discuss these extraordinary years, as well as to discuss an update to Kona, but today we're here with some other news.
We are pleased to reveal the existence of Kona's sequel: Kona II: Brume.
[previewyoutube=ZJ6IE1_sJpo;full][/previewyoutube]
Kona II's mysteries revolve around the Brume, a bizarre, mind-bending mist engulfing the fictive region of Manastan, in Northern Qubec, Canada. The game starts where its predecessor left off, in October of the year 1970, but explores new grounds, and a storyline that lives on its own. Kona II: Brume is carefully made to please fans of Kona as well as newcomers.
Developed by Parabole and published by Ravenscourt on PC and consoles, the new adventure will be playable during Gamescom in Cologne (August 24th29th) at the Indie Arena Booth. For those not attending, there will be plenty of footage and new details uncovered at the same time. In the meantime, you can take a look at Kona II: Brume on Steam for additional details and screenshots of the game.
We hope you all enjoyed hearing back from us and Kona II's teaser, and we are looking forward to revealing more next month!
Cheers!

Kona for Virtual Reality has arrived, with support for Oculus, HTC Vive, and motion controls! Here is the trailer: https://youtu.be/HIpAa0fdwYo And for this special occasion, we have prepared a FAQ just in case you’re wondering how it all works:
How Do I Get Access to the DLC?
Kona VR is available on our store pageas part of a bundle for new players and as DLC for owners of the base game.
So What’s Different on VR?
Well, not much really. It is Kona, but in virtual reality :) The only big change we’ve made is introducing a safe mode that is always on in VR, which removes combat against wolves. Encounters didn’t feel right in VR and caused motion sickness for many players.
What Happens to my Saved Game?
Nothing. You may continue your progress in VR, and swap back to non-VR anytime. Kona VR is just another way to immerse yourself in the Manastan region.
So What’s Next?
We have been hard at work pushing all versions of Kona in the last four years; PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, Android TV, Switch and now VR. During that time, many users encountered and reported issues with the game, which we are keeping in a nice todo list. So now that all the promised platforms are supported, we are going to (1) fix the issues and provide updates for the game, and (2) think about our next big thing :) There are more news to come, but for the time being, we are going to support our recent launch and work on updates. Stay tuned!

Hey everyone! As you know, Canada is famous for its nice and warm weather (especially in the winter). We wouldnt want to keep it for ourselves, so we make constant efforts to share it with more people around the globe. Today, we are happy to announce that a new Kona update is now live, and it includes Simplified Chinese localization, bringing the games famous blizzard on more screens! To celebrate, Kona will be 40% off as part of the Daily Deals! The sale starts at 1:00 PM ET! The patch also contains small bug fixes and optimizations. There is only one significant change (except for SC) in the patch: we changed the way visions are triggered. The reason is mostly tied to the end of the game, so we will not explain it here to avoid spoilers. If you really want to know, please let us know in the comments and well create a sticky thread in the forums.
Coming Next: Russian Localization
As you probably know, localization can be really expensive (both in time and money), which is why Russian language is not in the game yet. So why is Simplified Chinese language in the game before Russian? We had a generous opportunity for Simplified Chinese localization, which made it possible for us to add it in the game first. We understand that its been a few months since the games official release, and we would like to thank you for your patience. Rest assured that todays update didnt delay Russian localization, which will be added in Kona by Q4 2017.

Hey everyone! That’s right, there’s a new update today! We know that some Mac and Linux players experienced issues with the last update and this is mostly what we improved here. However, we do not have access to a wide range of machines running on these operating systems, so if you encounter bugs, glitches, etc, please let us know in the forums or by email at support@parabole.ca.
FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
That being said, here is a glimpse of what today’s patch brings:
- Linux: The black screen glitch in the main menu should be fixed
- Linux: The mouse should now appear and work correctly in the main menu
- Mac: Bloom and Depth of field are now disabled by default as we are working on fixing compatibility issues with both effects (can be enabled if you have no issues with these options)
- Shader quality can now only be set at “high” if your graphic cards supports DirectX 11+
- Fixed the ice spike attack bug when encountering ice wolves on the snowmobile, which would sometimes make the game crash
- Most random crashes (when loading a game, for instance) have been fixed
- Other minor bug fixes and optimizations
UPCOMING CHANGES & KNOWN ISSUES
And here’s a short list of known issues and changes to come:
- Linux: the name of the region you are visiting doesn’t show on the screen when you arrive
- Linux: some may still encounter the black screen glitch and/or the mouse not working bugs in the main menu. If this is the case, please let us know, there is a work-around fix and we will make a sticky post in the forums
- Mac: Bloom and Depth of field disabled by default should fix most of the graphical glitches encountered in the last update. However, if you encounter similar glitches while these options are disabled, please let us know and we will fix them as soon as possible
- Random crashes: we were able to fix most of them, but there may be some that we might have missed. As usual, we will work on fixing them as soon as you report/we notice them
- We will add Russian language for subtitles, texts and menus
- We will add an option to enable/disable quick loading screens between areas
- More optimizations and bug fixes, as always ;)

Hey everyone! An update for Kona has just been released!
FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
Heres a list of bug fixes and improvements that come with the patch:
- We removed two loading screens (on bridges, when leaving the General Store area)
- You can now delete photos (by clicking on a picture, a small window will open and let you choose)
- Mouse smoothing option has been added in the controls options
- In the same option menu, we also added an option to enable/disable autosaves
- We fixed unresponsive mouse and trackpad clicks in menus (when you have a touch screen)
- The yellow arrow in the middle of radial menus is now aligned accordingly
- We fixed a screen resolution display issue for Mac and Linux, which always showed the same resolution. This prevented players who changed it of bringing it back to its default value
- The first journal entry of The Hunt is now triggered automatically when approaching
the first crossbow bolt
instead of direct interaction
- We fixed a rare bug in which the player would complete the game in daylight when loading a checkpoint at a specific moment and location.
- We fixed a rare bug that would let the combat music continue at the end instead of changing for the end credits song.
- We fixed the invisible mouse cursor on Linux
- Many textures and collision fixes
- Other minor bug fixes and optimizations
- Graphics settings will be reset to their default value. Before playing, make sure to set them back to your own preferences
- If you own a computer with a not-so-powerful CPU, but with a good GPU, the game should run better than before
- Some visual effects and materials have changed a little (they were not compatible with the new version of Unity)
- Cloths have been temporarily deactivated due to unusual crashes. Most have been replaced with animations, others will be fixed in the next patch
UPCOMING CHANGES & KNOWN ISSUES
And heres a short list of what to expect in the next months:
- We will add Russian language for texts, interface and subtitles
- We will add an option to enable/disable quick loading screens between areas
- More optimizations and bug fixes, as always ;)

Hey everyone!
NVIDIA GeForce drivers that were released today unlocked NVIDIA Ansel support for Kona, which means that you can now take even more awesome screenshots!
NVIDIA Ansel is a revolutionary technology that hands gamers the tools to capture unique, professional-grade 2D, 360 and Virtual Reality 360 screenshots on GeForce GTX graphics cards.
By pressing Alt-F2 in the game, you can capture personally-framed free-cam screenshots, adjust the field of view and rotation of the screen, add optional Instagram-style filters, and save to shareable file types with a single click. The game pauses during the process, so you dont have to worry about freezing to death. Here are a few examples of filters you can apply on screenshots:
Hope you enjoy Ansel :)
Cheers!

Not only do we love the screenshots you guys are sharing on Steam, but were now working with NVIDIA to bring the magic of Ansel to Kona. Ansel allows any player to freely move the camera around to take gorgeous HD screenshots, 360 panoramas and VR-compatible stereoscopic images of the game. Ansel is already supported, but not yet whitelisted in the official drivers. You shouldnt have to wait long for the update to arrive, but for those who are eager to try it out, you can simply open the command line, paste the following line (including quotes) and press enter: "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools\NvCameraEnable.exe" whitelisting-everything When its done, pressing Alt-F2 anytime during gameplay (except during cutscenes) will open Ansel. Note that this requires a compatible graphics card (NVIDIA 600 series and up). Were going to share more details about Ansel in another update. EDIT: Driver update is now live on Geforce Experience and Kona is now whitelisted by default. You don't need to write this command anymore :) Thats it for todays update! https://youtu.be/iHdcOzC1UJc Hey everyone! After a year on Early Access, Kona is now officially out! Wed like to thank all our early supporter who gave us all the helpful feedback we needed to make Kona what it is today!
Whats new
If you played Kona on Early Access, you probably wonder what will change starting today. During early access, approximately 30% of the game content was available. Starting today, you can finally discover the rest! You will also be able to find and drive a snowmobile and you can expect new encounters, among other things (we wouldnt want to spoil the whole thing now, would we).
Original soundtrack DLC
Along with the official launch, the original soundtrack will be available soon as a DLC on our store page. We will publish another article when the time comes.
Kickstarter Shout Out
Our friends at Borealys Games, an indie studio from Montreal, just launched a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming game Mages of Mystralia. We played it at PAX and its really awesome. Follow this link to learn more about this action-adventure game and help them out if you like it!
The Next Step
We expect our forums to be a lot more active, so it may take a little more time for us to answer everyone. Rest assured that we will read every post though! With Kona out there, well begin working on other projects. We are still in the brainstorming phase, but as soon as we can talk about it, we will! Hope you enjoy the full version of Kona! Cheers!

Hey everyone! It’s Friday, and we have good news for your guys! For starters, a new update will go live in a few minutes. On top of adding text support for German, Spanish and Italian, the new build also contains hundreds of layers of enhancements as well as support for Steam Achievements. Before moving further into the details of the update, we have something equally exciting to announce: Kona is finally coming to Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One and PS4 simultaneously in March of this year, thanks to our new and awesome partnership with Ravenscourt! “But you said no update until launch, you liar!”. True.
Reasons for Update
IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR OLD SAVEGAME WON'T WORK WITH THE NEW UDPATE, as explained down below. We had long talks about whether or not we should update the game on Steam and GOG, but many factors helped us make our decision. Firstly, even if we did our best to avoid it, your existing save data won’t work in the final game. This is due to the large number of changes we made to Kona since the last update. However, any savegame you create in the new update will work on launch and afterwards. To us, this was the main reason to update. The last thing we want if for you to be penalized for having supported us early on. Secondly, as we mentioned before, some story-related elements were stripped out of the game in order to keep some surprises for the final version. This was great six months ago, but with Kona’s launch just around the corner, we feel like you should be playing something closer to the actual thing, hence the need for an updated build. Thirdly, on the business side of thing, the game base price will be USD $20 after launch. At some point we have to get closer to that price, but we can’t if we do not provide anything in exchange. With this update, Kona pricing will increase now from USD $10 to USD $18 (of course, if you own it already, you won’t have to pay extra). The bottom line is that we did not want past and new Early Accessors to be disadvantaged on game launch. We wanted our message to be clear and consistent across Steam, GOG, press releases and trailers.
Content of Update
With this update, the game world and play time will remain the same as before. It simply is a more polished first hour (or so) of gameplay that won’t be erased in March when Kona finally launches. Still, you’ll find many drastic improvements. You will also notice that all voices (French and English) are now in the game and that texts, subtitles and menus have been localized in Italian, German and Spanish thanks to Ravenscourt (Russian language is still part of the plan and we will keep you in the loop as soon as we are ready to add it to the game). Finally, you can now use F to equip your flashlight and M for the map (it works in the car now). The key remapping feature for keyboards will come in another update we will publish soon. Published by Ravenscourt Everywhere outside of Steam, GOG and Humble store, Kona will be published by Ravenscourt. That is on Xbox One, PS4 and other PC storefronts. With a team of 7, we can’t handle them all, but we still believe being close to our audience is really important nowadays in the industry. On that front, our partnership with Ravenscourt is simply perfect. We get to keep talking to you all while bringing the game to new crowds.
Thanks (again) to All of You
That’s all for now, but again, we want to thank you all for believing in our project and for your patience facing the many delays the game had in the past. The real thing is coming and it looks great! Try it for yourself and feel free to send us your comments, as always :) Talk soon! Everyone at Parabole

Hey everyone!
Wherever you are in the world, we hope you had as many sunny days as we had here! Unless you’ve been playing Kona the whole time, of course!
Today, let’s not beat about the bush: we are going to push back the game release once more and spend the next months finishing, porting and marketing Kona. Plus, our Early Access build will, from now on and until launch, only receive stability updates.
It took us several attempts to word this message correctly, wishing for our post to be as transparent as possible for our loyal fans, just as we wish for your honesty. The following paragraphs will go through explaining our vision of Early Access and how that positively affected the game’s quality, but somewhat negatively on our release plan.
Time to Move Past Beta
Early Access is a great place to gather and address feedback from the community, which is really cool to improve a game. At some point though, we just need to wrap up the experience, which means going through the whole development, QA and localization process – this takes time.
We want all our early supporters to experience the game in its true, bug-free form.
For Kona we wish for us and for you to receive what you paid for, meaning to release a game that has gone through the proper quality assurance procedures. We want all our early supporters to experience the game in its true, bug-free form.
In the next few months, we will be in “finish, fix and port” mode. This “mode” is unfortunately incompatible with Early Access’ “deploy, listen and improve” loop. We hope that you understand this, even if it means waiting a bit longer to get your hands on Kona. Trust us, we don’t want our title to be one of those “forever in Early access” games. We truly are looking forward to releasing it, but rushing its launch on the market after nearly three years of hard work will not serve any purpose.
In other words: from now on and until the official launch, we will keep sending updates for stability and bug fixes, but we won’t add new content anymore. It’s time to focus on finishing the game.
"Q1 2017" Is All We Can Tell for Now
Right now we can’t tell what the exact release date will be nor can we confirm all the platforms we will support at launch. For now, we can tell that it’s no later than Q1 2017, though watch this spot for news to be published soon!
Changes to Expect in the Final Experience
Without spoiling anything, here’s a quick list of the elements we’ll be working on as we move toward the game’s release:
- Improved graphic design signature: we hired a graphic designer of 9+ years of experience in video game branding. While Kona will keep its identity, you can expect it to be much cleaner, from the boot screen to the ending credits, in the final game
- No more placeholders: some menus, voices and animations may feel a bit stiff from time to time. They will be polished in the next few months
- New beginning: from the moment you start the game, the experience will be different. We had to remove some elements from the beginning part of the game in order to avoid spoilers for the final release. We will now put them in there, and we encourage all players to revisit the whole game once it comes out
- Improved voice overs (English): we scheduled three additional recording sessions in order to fix some spoken lines that users felt annoying or out of place
- Larger map: the part of the map that is accessible in Early Access is about less than half the size of the full game environment
- More languages: in addition to French and English, we will add German, Spanish and Italian subtitles for game launch, with Russian following soon after, if not at the same time
- The snowmobile: yup, we kept it for the final release. Trust us, it’s awesome
- Community space: that is still part of the plan, so you can expect some details in the next few weeks
- And dozens of other surprises: obviously, we won’t list everything here as we’re trying to keep this article somewhat short.
Busy, But Still Here!
We will still be reading and answering all of your feedback, even if our news posts will be mainly around stability updates until the final release. The most important to us is our community and we love talking to you all! Also, as soon as we can tell you more about all of this, we will! That’s it for the wall of text! Thank you so much for understanding and don’t hesitate to leave us comments if there’s anything! Cheers! Parabole Team

Hey everyone!
Today, we are really happy to announce that 10,000 copies of the early access version of Kona have been sold! This includes all backers who claimed their keys on Steam as well as copies we sold on the Humble Store, GOG and our own website.
Steam Statistics
For those of you who like numbers, here are some raw Steam Product Data from Kona: Units Over Time
Units per country
Special mention to our Canadian friends for their support! For a country with a relatively small number of inhabitants, their share of the pie really is impressive! Anyway! This is more than just numbers we are talking about here. Thanks to your support, the game has improved a lot since we released the first beta version. Here’s a glimpse about what we accomplished since the beginning of the beta:
Wolves
Players could see wolves passing by sometimes, but we decided to add some encounters to spice things up a bit.
Lee Enfield 303 & Other Items
With wolves around, you need something to defend yourself! There are many ways to deal with them, but adding a Lee Enfield 303 rifle in the lot can help… a lot.
Flow Improvements
We added a few puzzles and tweaked many areas to introduce players to some of the game mechanics without using boring tutorials or dialog boxes.
UI Styling
One thing we changed progressively during Early Access is the color palette and general look and feel of the UI. It is now more contrasted and can be seen on subtitles, location titles and so on. The UI has improved since we first posted this image and we will continue to work on it until the full release.
Stress Gauge
The stress gauge was already there upon release, but the mechanic was only introduced a few weeks after, which adds a bit of difficulty to the game.
Visions
The first version did not have any goal. This quickly appeared in the reviews and in the forums, so we introduced something that was already planned, but just not anchored in the game yet: the visions and frozen inhabitants.
The Journal
Although it is still work in progress, it is now a lot easier to know about the areas you visit and what you can/need to do next.
Interaction System
While keeping the same game mechanic, we were able to change the interaction system to make it less confusing for players.
Optimizations
We managed to optimize performances a lot! Sure, it’s not perfect yet, but a few months ago, the game would take several minutes to go past the initial loading. It even crashed on some computers.
Bugs and Suggestions
So many bugs (like the missing cutters) were fixed during Early Access thanks to all the feedback we’ve had! We also received suggestions that we were able to add in the game, like the stash in the back of the pickup.
Behind the Scene Changes
Obviously, we’ve worked hard on stuff that will only be unveiled in the final version of the game, so you can expect many surprises in a few months :) So that’s it! Again, 10,000 times thanks for your support! Let’s get back to work now, and we hope to say thanks a lot more times upon the full release! Cheers!

Hey everyone! A few weeks have passed since our last update, so it’s time for a new one! Following your feedback in the forums, we added the version number in the top-right corner of the main screen and we fixed a few bugs. Also, some of you experienced motion sickness while playing Kona. It usually goes away after a while or by changing some graphics options. However, someone suggested to add an option for a crosshair that could probably help a little. So we did! It is available in the controls options menu. This week, we also introduce our new interaction system. I will avoid spoilers and if you write comments that include spoilers, please use the
Spoiler
formatting.
Interactors
Most of the feedback we receive is about our user interface. We’ve decided to change all interactors to make things clearer. Here’s a preview of what it looks like:
From now on, every interactor you will see will be a little square (see image). When you approach, the square will turn a little and you will be able to interact with the object. If you don’t know what action it might trigger, you will see a brief description or a small image of what the interactor does after a few seconds.
No More Combine Menu
We decided to remove the combine menu. Instead, when you have all required items, you will need to hold the interaction key (usually the E key or the A button on a controller) until the bar is full. Since our game doesn’t really focus on crafting, why not find a simpler way to do so!
Known issues
Here are some of the known issues that we are already working on fixing:
- The mouse scroll for texts works now. However, some the W and S buttons don’t work in all of them;
- When you have the lantern equiped (and sometimes with the flashlight) and you smoke a cigarette, the lantern is still in your hands until the end of the animation.

Hey everyone! For the next 5 days, anyone who bought Kona on Steam can add the game to its GOG library through the new GOG Connect program —for free. GOG Connect gets you a DRM-free version of the game, 2 songs that will be part of the official soundtrack and other GOG features (for instance, GOG Galaxy allows you to play games offline). We believe that each player should only pay once for a game and that he should be able to play on the platform he/she prefers. We can't always do it though for reasons that are out of our control, so GOG Connect is a great opportunity that you shouldn't miss! Other games are available through the program. To link your Steam account and see what games are available, visit the GOG Connect website. Cheers!

Hey everyone!
Great news: Kona has been selected to be part of the IndieCade @ E3 Showcase on June 14-16, in Los Angeles!
What's IndieCade?
Known as "the video game industry's Sundance”, IndieCade is an international juried festival of independent games. At IndieCade, independent video game developers are selected to screen and promote their work at the annual IndieCade festival and showcase events, including E3 conference in Los Angeles.
A Game Update for the Event
For the event, we will release a new version of the game, featuring a major change to how the player interacts with the in-game world. We've read all the feedback we received from the community and one of the main concerns were the interaction system. The "combine" menu felt unintuitive to some players and environment interactions sometimes were unclear. We came up with a better and easier way for players to interact with objects in the game. This new version will be available around E3 dates on Steam and GOG.com. So that's it! Have a nice weekend! Cheers!

Hey everyone! Thanks to some of you guys, we found out a game breaking bug, so we're sending a quick update to fix it! It's something that happened at the Lachance's house, so if you still haven't visited the place, don't read the hidden message below. Here is what happened:
You arrive at the house and go through the vision, but when you get out of it, interactors don't work anymore. If you left the bathroom door closed, you can't even get out of bathroom.
So, we fixed it :D Thanks again for the feedback!

Hey everyone! We have a small update today. We fixed many bugs and worked on optimizations (as usual). Among other things, we fixes the treasure hunt maps that didn't appear in the menu. However, you will need to either find one of these or start a new game for them to work. If you don't want to do that,
here is a link to the maps
. Plus, we added a graphics option : Render Sampling. In short, this option allows you to raise or reduce 3D rendering resolution. Reducing it below 1 reduces quality but increases performance. Above 1, we can compare it to a powerful antialiasing. At the high cost regarding performances, the game looks way better.
What's next...
We are working on revamping the interactors and "combine" menus. Here's a glimpse of what it will look like (work in progress):
There would be no "combine" menu anymore, which makes things clearer for players. That's it! We will try to send updates weekly like we did before. Rest assured that I will keep you in the loop if we can't ;) Cheers!

Hey everyone!
You must be wondering what is going on with updates lately, right? Well, the General Store's parking lot is full, so...
Joking aside, the last build we tested broke some of our old save files. We don't mind that much for our save files, but we care about yours, so we will send an update once we fix this issue.
We'll keep you in the loop!
Cheers!

Hi all!
It’s been a while since I (Alex) wrote directly to you guys. Since my brother and colleague took the whole PR and community management flag, I focused on the game production (which is a good thing), but today we have a rather important announcement: we are going to push the game release to a TBA date around August/September.
Why?
The quick answer to this is: Kona is our first game and we don’t want to screw it up, hence the need to work on it a bit longer than expected. TL;DR: Exposing our game here on Early Access was the best way we could find to gather feedback and fix issues efficiently. We could respect our commitment and ship Kona on the market in May, but the thing is, we got some really interesting and valid feedback/suggestions that we would really like to address. Plus, as you can see on the banner image, we went to PAX East in Boston last week. It was really nice and people really enjoyed the game. However, we felt that some areas would benefit from some adjustments. The bottom line is: we concluded that the best thing for our community and the project is to inject all the profits from Early Access, plus some contract work money, into making the game better.
What are you going to do with the additional time?
Since I do not want to write (and have you read) a novel about it, here are the major elements we are going to work on this summer:
- Improve English texts and narration;
- Improve the game performance;
- Rebrand the game (new logo, banners, UI, etc.);
- Make the UI more clear (especially the “combine” feature);
- Improve wolves AI;
- Adding Italian, Spanish, German and Russian translations;
- + Surprises!
(Art, not final, by Alex Asfour) Note that we will be trying several approaches, so that could definitely change in the future.
What should we expect to see in upcoming updates?
Kona is an adventure game. Unlocking more story-related areas would mean spoiling (more of) the game. Most of the changes we’ll introduce will be about how the player interacts with things in the game world. For the other 2/3 of the game, we want to keep it for the final release as you will appreciate it even more at that point. We also plan to introduce a special community area in the game. We are still discussing about what it should be (could be a house, room, or else), and we’ll soon make an announcement on this. The area will show off things made by you guys. It could be one line of text per user or some drawings. The goal is to have a hidden easter egg “credits” area. We want that place to be special and community-driven. More on that later!
Conclusion
Pushing the game back (again) is not an easy decision (we’d rather spend the summer enjoying the sun than working with snow), but a necessary one. We want all of you guys to enjoy Kona in its highest-quality form. We hope you all understand our position. Thank you all for all the good comments (and even for the bad ones :P) in the forums, the lengthy and helpful reviews, the beautiful screenshots in the gallery and for being simply awesome! As always, you can reach us anytime on Steam, GOG, social networks and at contact@parabole.ca. Cheers! Alex

Hey there, Today's update will feature many bug fixes and a significant framerate optimization. You may stumble upon some detail pop-in, but those should be smoothed out in the near future. We designed everything to get the best compromise between quality and performance at a level of detail setting of 3, and the new graphics quality presets start from there. Other important stuff we added:
- A wild river appeared!
- Adjustements to the stress mechanic
- Big "hangs" in loading scenes
- You may need to start a new game to access all journal features
[ 2016-04-23 00:56:52 CET ] [ Original post ]
Hey everyone, Today's update will feature many bug fixes. Hopefully, it will fix the issue some of you encountered this week. We can't pinpoint what it is exactly with the information we have, so if you encounter a similar issue, please send us the log file at support@parabole.ca. You can find the file here:
- Windows: C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonKonaKona_Dataoutput_log
- Mac: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log
- Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/CompanyName/ProductName/Player.log
- We introduce the stress mechanic (still work in progress). Keep your cigarettes close!
- Some Mac users encountered performance issue. We tested today's build and it run way smoother. Hopefully, you will get the same result ;)
- Big "hangs" in loading scenes
- You may need to start a new game to access all journal features

Hey everyone! Time for business, here’s what’s up with today’s update! As always, we fixed many bugs and worked on optimizing performances. Plus, a few things:
- Added more locations and characters to the journal. However, it might not work on certain old saves;
- Added a few burrows with talismans in them;
- Firestarters now have a weight and can be dropped;
- You now have a first-aid kit and a firestarter in the pickup trunk at the beginning;
- Added a few firestarters and matches to find in houses;
- You now keep the wired magnet after using it;
- Some “combines” now feature a glimpse of what they’ll look like once they are done (image).
Known Issues/WIP
- Big "hangs" in loading scenes, working on it
- You might need to start a new game to access all journal features

Hey everyone! Good news! The original French voices are available in the game today! Our voice actor is Quebec actor Guy Nadon. For more than 40 years, Mr Nadon was part of more than 50 plays et took many roles in Quebecois TV series. He also dubbed Morgan Freeman and Dustin Hoffman in their films for the French versions in Quebec. He also has some experience in the video game industry (he voiced in 3 installments of the Assassin’s Creed series). Along with details on the update, we’ll elaborate on the gradual integration of French VOs, the Humble Store release and a change of translator for the English version.
Missing Parts
About 60% of the French VOs are available in the Early Access version. Some content has yet to be recorder, but it’s a good start!
Kona on the Humble Store
In the next few hours, Kona will be available on the Humble Store. Buying our game there will give you a Steam key. The good thing is that 10% of what you pay (same US price than buying on Steam) will go to charity, which is pretty great!
Change of Translator for English Version
We will soon have a new translator for the English version of the game. In the mean time, for the next 1-2 weeks, some translations will be homemade. We’ll do our best, but they might seem rough a little. Don’t panic, the good ones are on the way!
What Else to Expect in this Update?
Along with what’s listed below, a few locations will be added to the journal.
- You need only one log now to start a fire, but they are a bit more heavy;
- You can fill empty bottles with water. When Carl drinks it, his stress bar replenishes;
- We added a treasure hunt (the reward will be better in the future);
- Three houses now have mail in their mailboxes;
- There’s now a ladder at the General Store;
- Some pages were added in the “Locations” section;
- Many bug fixes and optimizations.

Hi everyone :) Today, Mac and Linux players can plunge into the mystery of Manastan via Steam Early Access. Kona is available now across Windows, Mac, and Linux at 33% off (while it is not displayed as 33% off, the final game will be USD$13.99. Steam does not allow discount tag for more than 7 days on Early Access titles :( ) Please note that since we only have two machines to test on, there might be some issues at first, but we promise to fix them asap :) (Also note that the Steam UI sometimes does not show Mac and Linux icons next to the game "add to cart" yet on non-english Steam pages)
Mac and Linux Requirements
- Please take a look at the full requirements on the game page - Mac: We recommend playing on 2013 Macbook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro and newer models - Mac: Since most Mac don't have powerful GPU, we recommend playing on low settings - Linux: The same requirements as the PC version apply to Linux machines.
Known Issues
- The game may not auto-select discrete GPU on laptops. For more details; read this thread - There are several hangs on scene streaming, we’re working on it; - On Mac and Linux, the initial loading can be very, very long. We are working on it.
Performance & Compatibility
- Kona is now on Mac and Linux! - Steam Controller is now fully supported; - Added an option to remove window transparency (shader quality setting); - Made several changes to occlusion culling; should improve frame rate on low settings; - We added support for various screen resolutions.
Gameplay & Balancing
- Now possible to walk on non-deep water. However, don’t do it if you don’t want Carl to freeze to death; - Added an option to turn off tooltips; - Made on-screen feedback a bit more aggressive when the character’s temperature decreases; - Temperature bar is now displayed when it’s filling up.
Fixed Bugs
- Fixed some animation glitches while manipulating objects and driving. - Cutting locks no longer equips the map afterward - Changed some Steam Controller settings on Steam store so it auto-select the right layout on game boot - Fixes various collision bugs
Upcoming
- We are playing with a texture streaming tech that should make the game run much smoother and noticeably reduce loading times. - We are working on a big area that we plan to unlock in April. - More translations & French voice overs. - Many more bug fixes Again, if you have any suggestion, concern or question about the game, feel free to discuss here or in the forums! Cheers guys and thank you for joining us on Early Access! - Everyone at Parabole

Hi all :) A new minor update has been uploaded to Steam and should soon be available for everyone. Here are the release notes:
Additions
- Inventory: Added the ability to deposit and withdraw items from the pickup truck trunk.
- Display: Added ultra wide screens support
- Display: Added 4:3 screens support (still, we do not recommend playing in 4:3)
- Audio: Surround is now supported, but you should change the settings in the main menu, not in game.

Adjustments
- We removed some useless voice overs.
- We moved some voice overs from "playing on trigger" to "playing on interaction"
- We changed the behavior of wolves so they do not "freeze" for 10 seconds, but they are still WIP
- We changed the two visions in order to make them clearer.
- We reduced the time it takes to freeze as it was too long.
Bug fixes
ZE FUTURE
We started working on Mac and Linux port. We should announce next week when we plan to release both versions. It should be soon enough :) We are also working on a big update scheduled for the beginning of April. More on that later! If there is anything you would like to see in forthcoming updates, feel free to write suggestions in the forums. We read them all :D Have a good weekend everyone! Cheers!
