Small update with two small things: 1. Someone on Discord reported a crash when moving around without a scanner. Seems like it was related to how I generate random log messages. The crash has been fixed 2. While at it I ported the game to Godot 3.5.3 LTS which should have some nice engine bug fixes and optimizations.
Greetings Captain! Another minor update I've been wanting to add to the game for some time now. Some people thought the random log messages that show up from time to time where quite fun but from the beginning I was planning to make them more relevant with dynamic information showing up from time to time to help new players figure out what's happening. This is the major update this week. You'll now see messages like:
Greetings Captains! Seeing as things seem to have gone well with the interruptible crafting I've tried hard to add interruptible pickups as well. Hopefuly, that should drastically reduce YASD. [previewyoutube=W5D5XQbAFHE;leftthumb][/previewyoutube] After watching Brian play a few games I also noticed a few issues with Anomalies that have now been fixed and I've tried to balance a few more items and fixed a major issue with the way I handled difficulty scaling which made it so that planets would drop up to 140 items on easier difficulty! Fixes a crash I missed when entering side-branches because of a data file that was outdated. Sorry to anyone who experienced the crashes.
Since I've mostly been working on fixes for Version 1.0 I figured I might as well release them incrementally so everyone can enjoy them! This is a minor update to fix a bunch of random bugs and small quality of life improvements.
If you're stuck and the game keep crashing after the update let me know and I'll make an updater to fix the savegame too. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Finally something that's been on my todo list for a really long time but that required a lot (and I mean a LOT) of changes, it's time for ships to do more than just shoot lasers at each others! Ships (both players and enemies!) will be able to equip tools and weapons that can hack into other ship's computer. You'll be able to choose which system to disable with the new Remote DataHack weapon and if you're in a pinch you'll be able to disable every enemy ship around you for a while with the a powerful EMP blast! Watch out for cooldown on that EMP tough!
Major changes for the Alpha 5! I'm even considering making it the last release before 1.0 depending on how many things I need to iron out after such a massive release! What's new in release 0.5.0 - Jerg branch complete with story and boss fight! - Vorg branch complete with story and boss fight! - New death and victory animations - New sounds - New HUD layout - New items - AI improvements - Bug fixes Be sure to check it out because now getting to the end is not enough! To get a really good high score, you'll need to venture into the Jerg and Vorg branches where powerful bosses await! To do this you'll have to figure out the best strategy to target the bosses weaknesses and build a custom ship capable of handling them!
Thanks to several player who reported the crash. I'm very sad it slipped through the cracks when I was testing Alpha 4. Hopefully there won't be anything else major until Alpha 5. Minor fixes and improvements will come in Alpha 5 along with a complete UI overhaul and some new content as usual!
