Untrusted Winter Event

It's time for the winter break event! From today, December 21st to January 6th 2023, you can unlock exclusive avatars ingame by playing! During any opsec, certain players will be given the option to use "The Gift of Giving" skill, which will allow you to either bring a present, or coal, to a target operative. If you choose to bring presents, the target will obtain 2 events point. If you choose to bring coal, you may get 3 event points, or you may lose 3 event points. The RNG % will vary during this event. Experiment and have fun! Events points will also be awarded upon win, and randomly during the OPSEC. Drop % of lucky drops will also change during the event! Famed Operatives are available for purchase Winners have been contacted privately, and anyone can now purchase the season 5 famed ops in the store as usual. Untrusted/Trust No Bunny winter event! There's also going to be a cross-community game day between the communities of Untrusted and Trust No Bunny, another cool social deduction game! We'll be teaching Untrusted to players from their community, and viceversa, they'll be teaching us TNB! This skill on the surface behaves like 'Midnight Meeting'. Murderous Summer!

Good news, everyone! With this patch, the summer 4-weeks long event, Murderous Summer begins! One or two random players per OPSEC will obtain, during a non-specified night a new skill, called Murderous Night. This skill can be selected normally and will be listed as usual in the skill panel (some classes may lose temporarily one of their skill to make room for this one). When selected, this UI will show up:
You can then select a proper weapon and a target: if you correctly deduce the target operative class type (based on the weapon selected read the description of each weapon by clicking on it) that operative will die that night. Note that it is still possible to prevent you from doing your nightly action, and the target operative can use protection skills to thwart your murder attempt. If you are successful, you will gain 4 event points. If you are not successful, your target will instead gain 4 event points. Patch 1.147 + Manhunt Community Event!

A dangerous cybercriminal has been arrested recently, and is now on the run from AGENT after a spectacular jailbreak: Impersonate the manhunt AGENT team: 7 avatars are available for purchase using untrusted coins for the duration of the event. Once the manhunt event is completed, these avatars wont be available for purchase anymore. Gather clues: play games as you normally would to gather clues under specific circumstances you may be shown a clue that will lead you to the identity of the escaped convict. Clues are shown at the end of the game and will not be (obviously) saved in the game web logs make sure to write them down! You can click Event Logs while you are in the post-game lobby if you need to re-read the game clue. Win coins and bragging rights: as you gather clues, you can piece together a special code that can unlock 250.000 untrusted credits and an exclusive avatar. Playing with friends? Was the Field Agent occupied, or is the Forensics Specialist up to something? Untrusted - Early Access - v1.097 changelog

Hello Operatives! Today marks the release of Untrusted v.1097, and unless disaster strikes, this will likely be the last patch before Untrusted transitions from Early Access to the official release. The game is now complete with the features I envisioned, but that doesn't mean development stops - there still needs to be improvement, bugfixes and polishing, but the game is certainly ready to be enjoyed. So, without further ado, lets have a look at what this patch offers, before moving on to dicussing future development.

New Class - Corrupt Detective


With this patch, we finally see a new class (it's been a while since the latest class, the Rival Hacker, was introduced) called Corrupt Detective. This class is a neutral field operation (despite the name) class that will win (among other conditions) as long as AGENT faction loses. It's the neutral opposite class to the Rival Hacker, as the Corrupt Detective is essentially a NETSEC player. Players who spawn with this class will need to first use the 'Steal Intel' skill and then use 'Upload Intel' on any hacked node. If that was not enough, the corrupt detective must be in play at the end of the game (not dead and not arrested). This class also have some interesting properties that will enhance and create an additional layer of paranoia in the game: doxx results will show this class as AGENT, however, if he gets lycnhed, the Operation Leader identity will be revelead. In addition to this, the Corrupt Detective can get bribes during the day, which have no impact in the gameplay but will increase their payout in case of a win. This class has been in the development wishlist for a while, but was put on backburner due to rising priorities. It requires some testing and probably balance although it should be already fun and interesting having (or not having!) one in the game. As an additional, small buff to Rival Hacker, whenever the Corrupt Detective uses 'Bribe', the Rival Hacker will gain important intel. Will you risk giving an opponent intel or will you just cash out and risk it?

Supporter Store!


You can now support the development and maintenance of Untrusted! You can check the Donate page for more information (as more ways to help are coming soon!), but in short, every month a new badge and an exclusive avatar will be made available for purchase for a small sum. The avatar will be some way of showing your support, and at the same time it's a great way to 'immortalize' moments of Untrusted, as they are all inspired by particular events that happened when the badge was released, either an ingame event or something unrelated, such as a seasonal gimmick. You will also gain a very small amount of ingame credits that you can spend however you like. Untrusted is still a game that everyone can play for free and I'd rather keep it this way with no paywall and just cosmetics/bragging rights in-game purchases. By showing your support you gain bragging rights and the knowledge that you are helping Untrusted grow, as the money will directly proceed in maintaining the product (all costs including assets, server maintenance, etc) as well as its further development. You can now purchase retroactively (until the end of May) the February, March and April supporter tokens, which will give you an exclusive badge and, respectively, the Heart of The community avatar (commemorating the Early Access release), the Mega Bug avatar (commemorating the server 100% cpu bug on /kick) and the Aprils's Fish avatar (commemorating the April's Fools event) Untrusted is still a hobby project - there is some runway but ultimately, how long the server will stay up and the game developed/updated will depend on how much interest there is from the community There will be more information available soon on what are the next step in development, so you can also get a better feel if you think you should be spending your money on Untrusted or not. You can still help untrusted without reaching your wallet: keep playing and spreading the word to help Untrusted grow!

Future Development


There is quite some new stuff on this patch, so expect bugs and issues - always remember you can reach out in the official Discord Server or via email at root@playuntrusted.com What's in store for the future? Certainly more content such as badges and avatars, community events and of course, the usual balancing and bugfixing. Most importantly there are some network infrastructure changes that needs to be addressed in order to scale up better - the older system resisted to 90CCU back in early february (at the very peak) but started lagging early - the current system should at least hold that many (and possible more!) but in order to scale up even more, there are other network changes that need be addressed. As you can see, there's still plenty more to do, but that doesn't mean Untrusted isn't ready to be enjoyed!

Server Maintenance Thursday, Feb 18th, 17-19UTC

Hello operatives! There is a small patch coming this thursday (v1.091) and since it won't be retrocompatible with the current client the server will be briefly unavailable from 17UTC for at most 2 hours. There will be some minor balance changes, client/server improvements (hopefully removing forever the 'please wait' issue some of you have been experiencing) and maybe some little new content (badges and/or avatars) depending on various factors. The deployment and maintenance should take 1h or less but possibly extending to 2h.

Untrusted - Early Access - v1.090 changelog Balance changes / New features + "Planned Raid" now occupies the target. + "Script Kiddie" gains "create hideout" + It is now possible to select a minimum level when creating a public game. I *STRONGLY* encourage you to keep playing with new players, otherwise new players will never be able to find players to play with and ultimately it will create a closed, elitist community. If I see that nobody is playing with new players anymore, I'll consider disabling this feature. Please help new players if you can - the more we are, the better for everyone. Ideally you will use this option only when the server population is high enough that it warrants "walling" some players outside. + It is now possible to kick someone from a game lobby. Type "/kick playername" (without the quotes). Abusing the kick function will cause a ban and possibly a name change and xp reset with extreme prejudice. Please report toxic behaviour as usual and lets keep Untrusted a friendly place for everyone! Hello! There is upcoming server maintenance, expect downtime from 17UTC to 19UTC :) The server will be moved to a better infrastructure to allow for better growth. You may also experience lag and hiccups after the move, as data is gathered to address the performance problems.

Untrusted is now live on Steam Early Access!

Good news, everyone! Untrusted is finally live! There will be three scheduled game sessions during the weekend:

  • Friday 29th January, 20:00 UTC
  • Saturday 30th January, 16:00 UTC
  • Sunday 31st January, 20:00 UTC
As the game is new, it's possible that the server population may be low during certain times of the day - these sessions are scheduled so that you can find enough people to play with! Untrusted - Launch Weekend Event From now until Sunday, get twice the xp as you play and an exclusive badge to commemorate the launch to proudly show on your profile! There will also be more events: keep an eye out for extra exclusive content such as avatars and extra coins!   • "Untrusted - Web of Cybercrime" (or in short, "Untrusted") is an online multiplayer (10 to 16 players) hacking/social deduction game inspired by the Werewolf/Mafia genre and similar games.

    In Untrusted, hackers from the fictional NETSEC group are tasked in hacking a specific server on a computer network. NETSEC members must use their skills and wits to outsmart the undercover AGENTs that will try each night to perform arrests or have other players become snitches for them.

    The game ends as soon as the NETSEC group gains root access of the target node (meaning that they completed the hack opeartion) or when all AGENTs or NETSEC members have been eliminated from the game. If the NETSEC operation leader gives root access to an AGENT member however, it is also instant game over.

    Role playing, deception and deduction are key aspects of the game, which currently features 22 playable classes with more than 70 unique skills, with two factions and neutral classes that may overthrow the game by siding with either faction.
