Thank you for all your support!!!
You rock!
The Soda Den Team
Hello, lovely Pachans!
Things seem to be speeding up around here. There are now only two more devlogs until the 1.3 update drops! For those just joining us, weve been counting down devlogs instead of days, as wed like the press to cover us and help spread the word. So, we have to keep the update release date under wraps for a little while longer.
Now, on to todays devlog! Be aware of spoilers for new end-game content and mini-games!
Only three more devlogs until the 1.3 Update goes live! If youve been following along, you know that we need to keep the date a secret a little longer. So, we are counting down devlogs instead.
On another note. Next week, on April 25th, Roots of Pacha turns 2! Its been quite a journey, and were so glad you could be there with us! The best part of making this game is reading supportive comments from players who are enjoying what we created. It is an honor to bring joy to so many people, especially when the world feels dark at times. Thank you for being a light in our days as well.
To celebrate Roots of Pacha turning 2, were doing an AMA over on Reddit next week, Friday, April 25th, at 10 AM PDT / 9 PM CEST! The AMA will be hosted on the r/rootsofpacha subreddit, and you can start asking us questions a few days in advance if you wont be able to participate when the actual AMA goes live.
Now that were in the party mood, this devlog will be about the two new festivals! One Mograni and one Yakuan. Spoilers going forward for themes, dates, a couple of screenshots, and a mini-game.
Now, on to the devlog!
Welcome back for another Pachan Prophecy! There are only four more devlogs until the 1.3 update releases! Today, well focus on caves!
The Forest caves of Roots of Pacha that you may have already explored held many secrets. Today, well share a bit about the new caves coming in the 1.3 update, where a few new secrets await. We will do our best to tell you about the caves in the upcoming 1.3 update without divulging too much about what you will find inside.
That said! Spoilers are ahead if you choose to dig deeper into the caves.
There are only five more devlogs until the 1.3 update goes live! As we mentioned in our previous devlogs, weve been counting down devlogs as we wait for our big release date reveal.
Developing Ideas is one of the core aspects of Roots of Pacha. Its through these ideas that we see life change. It's hard not to get inspired when looking back on how these now common things revolutionized the world at the time. In the game so far, these Ideas have helped us water crops and process food. In the 1.3 update, well have five more Ideas for you to develop!
If you choose to keep reading, the following contains spoilers for these Ideas. So, if you want to find out on your own. Now is the time to stop reading.
Now, on to the Devlog!
Were back with another Pachan Prophecy! We only have six more devlogs until the 1.3 release! As we mentioned in the previous devlog, we need to keep the release date a secret for a little longer, but we wanted to create a way to let you know that it IS getting closer.
Now, on to the devlog!
After tending the fields, it's nice to end your day in a cozy, decorated hut. And we absolutely love how creative people have gotten with the decorations so far! You all are amazing!
Once you complete the caves and open the new areas, in the 1.3 Update, there will be a number of new decorations for you to discover. Some you can trade for, while others the new characters will send them as gifts. In this devlog, we will highlight a few of the items you can trade for and who to visit to get them.
So, depending on what you consider a spoiler, as always, beware.
Hello again! Were back with another Pachan prophecy about the 1.3 update! We noticed some comments about waiting to start the game or looking forward to starting over. So we wanted to clear something up. All the new content is mid-game or end-game. It becomes available only after you finish the
caves
, with even more unlocking after you finish the main story (aka the
pyramid
). So you wont be missing anything. Even if youve finished both of those, it will still make sense.
As you can imagine, this update is a big deal for us, and we would very much like the press to cover us. Which means we need to keep the release date secret for a little longer. SO! We came up with a solution. A devlog countdown (see the title of this devlog). Its not days, but its something we can share with you. (Just dont tell anyone we told you )
Now on to the devlog itself! Once again, spoilers ahead, so beware! We think theres plenty more to discover about these characters, but we want to give a fair warning to those who want to go in fresh.
In our last devlog, we talked about two Yakugan characters, Akhi and Ugvin. In this devlog, well focus on two new Mograni characters.
If youve played the game so far, youve likely met Zeda, the Mograni leader, and her younger siblings, Touk and Vallah. You may have also met Cohh, Havri, and Anda, the Mograni Keeper, at festivals. We also introduced Azkel in a previous devlog, the new Mograni romanceable character.
In this devlog, we will talk about two new Mograni Characters. Koli, Azkels daughter, and their neighbor Jiyla, the tailor for the clan.
Hello, lovely Pachans!
Were back with another Pachan prophecy about the upcoming 1.3 update.
This prophecy contains a handful of character spoilers. As always, you should stop reading here if youd prefer to explore it on your own, but theres still plenty more you can discover about these characters.
If youve played through spring, youve already met the leader of the Yakuans, Inza, her partner Brub, and their son Krak. During festivals, you may also have met Pellek, Kocha, Ash, and Javvi. And in an earlier devlog, we introduced Sayra, one of the new romanceable characters. In the 1.3 update, you will get to befriend all of those characters, as well as explore the islands where they live.
In this devlog, we will introduce you to two of the new characters: Ugvin, Sayras brother, and Akhi, Brubs brother.
Hey there, Pachan Farmers! Its time for another chapter of the Pachan Prophecies. In todays update, were unveiling more details about fruit trees and plant mutations. As always, this is the point where you can stop reading if you wish to explore the new additions on your own.
Hey there, lovely Pachans! It's time for a love-filled chapter of the Pachan Prophecies in honor of the day. In todays update, were unveiling exciting new details about two new romantic characters, which also means some heartfelt new child dialoguesjust in time for Valentines!
And remember, if you wish to learn about these characters on your own, now is the perfect time to stop reading
Hello Pachan friends, Were back with another Pachan Prophecy! Today, well share some details about the animals in the 1.3 update. As always, if you want to be surprised by the new animals you encounter, take this as your 'spoiler alert' warning from here on.
Its easy to fall in love with the animals we encounter in the wild. Many of us have since befriended these lovely creatures, inviting them to live with us either as pets or on our farms. So, of course, the new regions needed to have some new animals. Who wouldnt want a dodo as a pet?

Weve been hard at work developing the future content for Roots of Pacha and have devised a plan so that we can get you what was promised as soon as possible. Since all the content we want to add takes time to design, develop, and test, weve divided it into two juicy updates. The 1.2 update and the even bigger 1.3 update. With the 1.2 update arriving in early Q3 (in about 4 months).
Fixes - Cheese cloth sound leaks. - Newborns lost track if their needs had been fulfilled if a cutscene happened after crying. - Newborns kept crying at festivals and the notification showed in cutscenes. - Duplicated beds on a specific save/load scenario (this was related to not being able to interact with newborns). - Beekeeping idea could trigger before meeting Zeda. - Beech and Birch saplings had wrong descriptions. - Igrork's trees offered only a selection of trees everyday. - Cave painting festival not counting towards the pyramid goal. - Mounts sometimes lose their pattern color. - After moving a spot building the props (trees, rocks, etc) of the previous spot did not update. - Fish stuttering some times due to the the direction they choose. - Minor crafting UI issue using a controller. - Disk space check on PC/Mac/Linux version was hanging on some hardware.

Hello Pachans
We are still amazed by the love and support our game received in 2023 (and before). Timo and I started this game development journey from our shared passion for the farm sim genre. A genre that, for many people, including us, is a way to chill and relax after a busy day.
Our game was designed so you can play at your own pace without fear of missing out. Yes, time, days, and seasons pass by, but you can complete the game as you please without any penalty. Enjoy a day of fishing on the beach, ride with your faithful mount through the savanna, or just chill with the rest of the Pachans inside the Hearth on a rainy day.
If you enjoyed chilling with Roots of Pacha, please consider nominating us for the Sit Back and Relax category or any other category you'd like.

Also, if you haven't written a review yet, please do so. It helps us a lot.

Roots of Pacha will be on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5 on November 28th! Xbox will follow with a release early next year. We are so excited to bring the game to so many more people. Players can join their friends in these Pachan lands no matter which platform they play on with cross-play.
If any Xbox backers would like to change their key to Nintendo Switch, Playstation, or Steam they can update their key request here: https://rootsofpacha.com/orders/. Since console keys are region-dependent, we will follow up soon on how to let us know your region.
Were so grateful to all who supported us through this process. And of course, thank all the Kickstarter backers who made this all possible.
Tame this ancient animal starting in year two to gather milk or fur. These cuties will have their own unique song for you to play and earn their trust. We have a feeling these animals will play a role in how the game evolves in future updates.
Take a load off by sitting on your beautiful decorations and get some of that all-important stamina back. Its a detail we have been wanting to do for a while.
Voda is now a romanceable. We dont want to spoil too much about her story. But youll join her out in the woods with the wolves and take a trip to the jungle.
Did you form a Union too soon? Youll now be able to break that union if you choose. Your partner will be upset for a bit, but in true Pachan fashion, they will forgive you after some time.
Once you get enough friendship, NPCs will show appreciation for you by sending smoke signals with gifts attached. Some gifts will be recurring with things like bones and fur, while others will be one-of-a-kind.
These one-of-a-kind gifts will include:

Hello, Pachans!
The first step of the Roadmap is already here. The Quality of Life update is now live! There is so much fun to discover, like:
Smilodon outfit. We love fashion and know this new outfit will make you smile.
New romanceable NPC. Enjoy more cozy moments with Jag in three new flower cutscenes and maybe even form a Union with him.
Pacha tree fruit. Once you complete the Pyramid, you'll be able to exchange for Pacha fruit that grants different boons to make your life easier. Be sure to save a good amount of contributions. You'll need them.
+50 new decos. A set of new elegant decorations is available to exchange with Reese. You can make your home even cozier with the new pots, furniture, and lighting fixtures in bronze, silver, and gold varieties.
Moving buildings. Did you find a better spot for your home? Now you can relocate idea builds and your hut by talking to Croll.
Flower cutscene indicator. It can be easy to lose track of relationships when you're busy in the fields. A new cutscene indicator will help you know which villager is waiting to share a special moment.
Magic Hand Axe. Complete all the challenges in the caves to get this dream tool.
Jukk, the stylist. For 500 contributions, you can ask Jukk to refresh your style.
Obsidian mirror. Tired of that hairstyle or tattoo? This mirror is more than just an elegant home accessory. Change your appearance by interacting with it.
Your house, your rules. If you pass out in your house, you will still wake up there.
And more! The full changelog is listed below
We hope you enjoy the QoL update and have as much fun as we did making it. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress along the Road Map.
Also, if you havent left a review yet, we would greatly appreciate it if you would.
You rock!

First of all,
A little over a month has passed since the 1.0 release of Roots of Pacha. We couldnt be happier with the initial reception of the game and cant thank all of you enough. Your feedback and kind words have made us even more excited to see Roots of Pacha reach its full potential.
Were also super excited to be included in the Cozy & Family Friendly Games Celebration! If you havent grabbed a copy theres a 10% discount during the event.
Were happy to see so many people making it to the end of the main story, enjoying the village they worked hard to create, watching their families grow, finding those rare and legendary animals, and even starting new saves to do it all over again! We think everyone will be extra excited to see what we have in store.
Driven by the setting, we took the risk of interweaving many of the systems in Roots of Pacha as it felt natural to make the community work as a real one. We feel this made RoP a unique take on a farming sim, with systems growing on top of each other like the farms you cultivate. To be able to achieve the same feeling, our current plan is to do 2 larger updates with a small patch leading up to them.
Beyond the Quality of Life patch, we can only commit to a general timeframe as we want to ensure the updates are of the highest quality and not rushed. As we get further along in development, well be able to give you exact dates and in the meantime, well share our progress via Discord and occasionally social media too.
A small update with a group of quality-of-life features, the promised localization fixes, and some commonly requested player feedback, which will come in the following weeks.
This update will focus on an expansion of the current systems. That includes children growing to the kid stage, plant and animal evolution, new Union locations, another romanceable option, the ability to break your union, and more interactions with pets. We also plan to expand the end-game content and include smaller details like players being able to sit in places around the world and other community suggestions.
Wed like to launch this update along with consoles. Theyre separate processes that are currently being worked on in parallel, so were hopeful theyll be ready at about the same time later this year.
This update will include a whole new level of content, like kids growing to teen years and ball sport from the Kickstarter stretch goals, but it will mainly consist of being able to visit the Mograni and Yakuan settlements. Youll be able to explore their regions, the Tundra and Turtle Islands, find new fauna and flora, discover Ideas, meet new characters (some being romanceable), and dive into new caves. This will be a much larger update that will take more time to create. Our plan is for this one to come out sometime next year.
As we mentioned before, we cant commit to exact dates for the updates yet as we want to make sure theyre meaningful and fully tested before they reach your hands. Were confident that our team will be able to deliver it in an acceptable time frame.
Thank you all for following us on this journey. If you havent already, wed greatly appreciate it if you could leave us a review on Steam. It helps a lot.
You rock!

Hello Pachans!
April 25th is around the corner, and were so excited for you to play the game!
Before diving into the amazing journey its been developing the game, here are a few important things to note.
Hello Pachans!
In February, we worked on polishing many aspects of the game! We spruced up some building interiors, added an introduction to each Pachan and their relatives, and worked on the Pyramid Prophecies UI.
We also have some great news at the end of this devlog
As we get closer to the 1.0 release, we continue expanding whats possible in the Pachan lands. In this devlog, well highlight our recipe book, buffs, animal melodies, and new experiences in The Land.
Hello Pachans!
We hope you're having a great start to the year.
Lets ring in the New Year, the year of Roots of Pacha, by sharing some of our latest developments. In this Devlog, well focus on new decor and art portraits.
As we mentioned in our previous devlog, our updates leading up to release may seem smaller than usual. We want some of Pachas mysteries to be revealed only when its time.
Hello Pachans! This devlog is quite unique! Are you prepared?
After several months of work, we arrived at the date when Roots of Pacha will go forth into the world.
..Let the drums roll...
Hello Pachans! Its hard to believe that the year is almost over! As always, a lot has been accomplished in this last month. This time, well be highlighting animals and cooking.
Hello Pachans! Another month of hard work has passed. Weve continued to expand NPC animations, portraits, and their stories. Now, in this devlog, we will focus on a brand new festival and the expanded caves.
Since last July, the team has been working hard to bring more depth and complexity to the Roots of Pacha experience and theres still more to come!
We had a pretty amazing June! We started off with Day of the Devs and the associated Play Days event, IGN Summer of Gaming , Steam Next Fest, and releasing a demo alongside it all. Seeing our work in the limelight has been an unbelievable experience, but nothing can top the amount of love weve received from people playing the demo.
With so many players, weve received helpful feedback that were incorporating into the game. Some examples include a way to return from the top of the Forest mountain without retracing your steps, increasing options in the character creator, and more!
One of the incredibly exciting parts has been seeing our community grow. We grew so much this month that all 5 fires were lit in the Discord mini-game!
The reception of the demo has been beyond our wildest dreams. Thank you all for playing and giving us your feedback too!
With so many awesome events; Day of the Devs, IGN, and Steam Next Fest. We wanted to do something fun with the community that rewarded people for being active, so we decided to celebrate Pachan style with a festival! Hello Pachans!
Wed like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Let 2022 bring you plenty of warmth, bright moments, and happy memories. 2021 was an amazing year for us, full of surprises, events, and unwavering support from our community. To our Kickstarter supporters specifically, thank you for believing in us from the start, spreading the word, and giving us a chance to fulfill our dream. We quickly smashed the initial goal and ended up 1,115% funded!
It was a wild ride, hitting stretch goal after stretch goal, with many happy tears shed.
Following the Kickstarter, we were able to achieve another enormous milestone: a playable Alpha. Since then, weve released 6 major Alpha updates, each containing new game mechanics, overhauls, and polish.
Your feedback has helped us improve Roots of Pacha and shape the game to become the best possible experience for players. As we continue to work on the game, please keep it up! Were paying attention to everything you have to say.
At the end of 2021, we spent time scheduling things for next year and evaluating the teams progress. Here are our plans for 2022:
Happy Holidays Pachans! We couldnt think of a better way to wrap up the year than with a New Years Festival and live stream. We hope you were able to join us, but if you couldnt, heres a link if youd like to check it out. Otherwise, we hope you enjoy the summary below.

Hello Clan! We have some exciting news, were participating in Gamescom! We arent sure what that all entails yet, but the release of the full devlog and alpha update will be during the event later this month.
In our last devlog we talked about our progress with plant knowledge, a new tools station, and Igrorks idea of plant propagation. If you missed that update you can check it out here. We cant wait to show you that and so much more.
Plus the Clan loves a good party and so do we! So to celebrate our participation in Gamescom well have our own Mini-Festival August 25th-28th in Discord to coincide with the event. Well be raffling off the alpha, having fun with the community, and so much more!
Join us in discord to get the news first on whats to come!
You rock!
Hello Clan! Summer brought many new plants to our Clan, and our old tools could barely keep up. Acre, Igrork, and Ata have a few Ideas on how to improve things.
Hello Clan! Following our update cycle, today were releasing a new alpha version: 0.3.0 Guanaco.
Thanks to everyone who joined us in the livestream where we showcased many of the new features and content. We added a new area , a new season , expanded the processors , added plants , animals , & more!
[previewyoutube=iZDLPvh2e6c;full][/previewyoutube]
With so much new content we couldnt start at the beginning, so well tell you a bit about a new event, The Rite of Passage.
The Clans success depends on every adult being a contributing member to society. So the passage from adolescence to adulthood is something to be celebrated. As a new adult, you go through this rite on the 7th day, taking an oath and learning about your guardian spirit.
It's the end of the month, and that means its (almost) devlog time. But since it's also Alpha time, we're going to do something cool and stream the new content instead of doing a devlog. We thought it'd be a fun way to showcase the main features of this iteration and hang out with you, the community.
Join us next week as we explore the Savanna and take in the Summer sun in the Land Between Two Rivers. But dont worry we wont spoil everything.
The alpha update will be released soon after the stream ends !

Hi Clan! Its devlog time, and were starting to feel the summer vibes. Heres what weve been up to .
Were officially launching the Pachan Cooking Contest (think the Great British Baking Show of prehistory!)
Weve arrived at the Festival of Kickstarter! The Clan has already swam in the salty waters of the sea, feasted on their harvest, and danced to the rhythm of their drums. Now its time to listen to the tale of our origins and the greatness of our people:
Hello Pachans, weve reached the end of the year. December has been a month of game design and goals review. This devlog is not going to be our standard feature-based entry but a review of what weve achieved and whats to come.
First of all we want to thank you for your continued support. So heres a candle for each and everyone one of you who makes this Clan, our Clan.
Its never easy to begin any kind of project. Luckily, as brothers, we always had each others back. As kids we loved playing games together and even when life led us apart, playing a game was always a way to reconnect. We were working as devs and artists, we werent unhappy but there was a creative itch, something we realized we had to do, and thats how we embarked on this journey of making a game.
Us, somewhere, a while ago (I wasn't trying to push him into the water, I promise)
Every piece of the puzzle started to fall in the right place. The farming & life genre, the stone age theme, an amazing artist whos excited about the project, a local publisher that gives us enough support without imposing their view on the game.
All those pieces were great, but we were lacking one essential thing, and it was you, those who wanted to be with us from the start. We presented the idea of Roots of Pacha to all of you back in May and got really excited to find a community with whom to share our dream. The game has changed a lot ever since. The art and the gameplay started to take a unique shape.
Making a game involves a lot of planning, trying out the idea and then deciding if it fits the game or not. Sometimes you need to scrap it all and start from scratch, and that changed our schedule and plans. We realized along the way that we needed more help to be able to iterate faster and include things that we wanted to have in the game, so we expanded our team.
We started working with wonderful people part-time and were able to do more concept art and game assets, add music and SFX, and improve the UI. The game has now reached a mature state where a lot of the mechanics are done, and adding and changing things is a much smoother process.
Thanks momomo, sizu, darkaos!
The best moments of the year were when you shared the excitement for something wed done, suggested a feature, created beautiful fanart, or simply followed our journey. It honestly renews our energy and helps to make Roots of Pacha even more special.
The game is at a state where we are almost ready to begin alpha testing. Were making a minigame for our Discord channel for us to have fun together and as a way to gain access to the alpha. Will you go out and explore? How about planting wheat, or brushing our newly tamed bison? What idea will we develop together?.
Theres still a lot of work to do but the goal is much clearer, and we feel its the right time for the team to grow in size once again. Because of this, we feel a Kickstarter campaign would be a great way to do it.
Roots of Pacha is a game about the community, about how we, humans, worked together to progress and achieve things that were thought to be impossible. Kickstarter not only will help us grow the team, it reflects how all of us can take Roots of Pacha and make it even greater than we originally thought it could be.
Were really excited and a bit nervous about this new challenge. For now you can help us by following the Kickstarter page and spreading the word. Details will come in the following weeks.
Thanks for reading and Happy New Year !

June brought us summer (or winter if youre in the southern hemisphere), and with that came along new animals and their taming mechanic, improvements to the regions, and new ideas and buildings that can be discovered and built.
In this edition dear Pachan, wed like to introduce you to the start of the game and some of its mechanics.
April has been quite a month for Roots of Pacha. First, we wanted to thank everyone who watched the teaser, joined our discord or wishlisted us on Steam.
If you still havent done any of it, please do and let us know your thoughts! Discord Youtube
Weve been working in Roots of Pacha for many months now in tasks ranging from art style and story, to multiplayer networking, inventory and farming systems.
Lets talk a little bit about plants. Those green living things we all love (well, we know some of you probably dont eat them everyday but we still owe them a lot!). Isnt it amazing that at some point in time, just by trial and error, or even by accident, someone stumbled upon the ancient version of a tomato?; And from there, to marinara, to ketchup, its just history. To show some love to that red ball of yumminess, here are the stages of the tomato plant:
Some of you might know by now that Soda Den is led by a pair of brothers, and it has always been our goal to evoke the feeling of playing together in the games we develop. Thats why Roots of Pacha is a co-op first game, and multiplayer will be supported from day one. Dont worry, if youre playing solo you wont miss out on any content, and we have some ideas on how to connect single players too.
Theres now a road in front of us that we are happy to share with you all. This month were going to focus on fine tuning some of the systems like day/night cycle and seasons, working on new stuff like intro and tutorials, and expanding regions around the village.
Heres a sneak peak of the jungle through an eagles eye. Sorry for the blur, were working on our seer power.
We also have a few ideas for how were going to show this devlogs and answer some of your questions in the future. So stay tuned for next month!
Hello Pachans,
We're proud to present Roots of Pacha, an upcoming co-op farming and life simulation game set in the stone age.
