The Insane Patch 1.2 is here!


Greetings, travellers of the Otherworld!


The year is coming to an end, and looking back it definitely was the best year for our studio since its foundation. Drova's release was a great experience and the following months after were a huge source of joy. It's been extremely motivating for us to read all of your feedback and thoughts about Drova and we're looking forward to a future of developing games together with you, our community. But now it's finally time! We've been hard at work for the past two weeks to be able to now present to you our second major Content Patch. We proudly present to you Version 1.2, the "Insane Patch". We're very excited (and slightly nervous) to see your reactions to the additions and changes! As usual, we've prepared an Update Video for you as well. The Insane patch


This Update is mainly about our new difficulty, "Insane", and the new Save mode, "Hardcore". Both are completely new additions to the game that will offer new possibilities to experience the world of Drova.
The "Insane" difficulty is for those players who feel like they've already mastered what Drova had to offer on "Classic" and are yearning for a more difficult challenge. It's been important to us to not just skew around some numbers to increase enemy HP. We also integrated new behaviors and attacks for known enemies that were not in the game previously. The Save mode "Hardcore" is an iteration of the mode "Iron". It's a special challenge mode in which your character is not allowed to die - once you do anyway, your save will get changed to the "Iron" mode automatically. This will be applicable to both classic and insane difficulties. To be able to play any of these new modes you'll have to start a new game- In the character creator you'll now have the choice between the difficulties Explorer, Classic and Insane. It is not possible to change your difficulty from a lower one to Insane nor from Insane to a lower during the game.
When starting the game, you'll be asked for your save mode of choice. Next to "Classic" and "Iron" you'll now also be able to choose "Hardcore".

Challenges


To properly celebrate the occasion, we came up with something special: Starting from today, there'll be two special challenges running. The first players able to master them will receive a special role in our discord and will be put into the game itself in the form of a statue in the Remnant's camp.
Challenge 1 - No Hit Run Whoever manages to beat the game first without their character being hit one singular time will be the proud bearer of the title "The Invulnerable". But be aware! Just a single scratch, and you're out! You'll have to choose either Classic or Insane difficulty for this, Explorers may not enter the fray. Save mode doesn't matter. No reloading previous saves! Challenge 2 - Insane Hardcore Whoever first triumphs over death and insanity will be known forthwell as "The Invincible". Everyone can have a go at it, but only the fiercest warriors in all of Drova will have a lick of a chance. This challenge asks to be the first player to beat Drova on Insane difficulty and Hardcore save mode. Both of these challenges come with some stipulations, naturally:
  • The entire run will need to be given to us in video form.
  • The game timer must be visible for the entirety of the run. We've added one in the options, in the interface subsection. When active, the time will be visible in the top right of your screen.
  • The use of mods that change the game experience is disallowed, especially the cheat console, excluding translation mods. If youre still having any uncertainties or doubts concerning mods you are using, feel free to ask us directly.
  • After finishing the game having beaten a challenge, you'll have to send us your corresponding save files. This can be done, on PC, using the Bug-Report feature on the F2 key.
Apart from these handful of things, feel free to use all your knowledge and skills gained in your adventures through Drova to be able to master the challenges at hand. We're looking forward to seeing your attempts and are excited to see how long it'll take until the winners emerge!

Insane Difficulty


The Insane difficulty will prove to be a challenge even to those that have already explored every nook and cranny of Drova, putting to test their mastery of skill. Behaviors of most enemies have been reworked to create new challenges. From the getgo, your character receives 30% and gives out 20% less damage. You will, however, also be offered settings to further modify these values to customize the game further to your liking.

New Enemy Attacks


In the new difficulty a bunch of enemies have learned a few new tricks to surprise you with. This will of course mix up the battle and cause some new situations to occur.
The Stone crusher follows the player while continuously hitting the ground- you should better keep a safe distance away!
The magically changed spiders are now able to channel their energy to buff themselves- making them doubly as dangerous in impending attacks!
The red Froglings will try to get as close to you as possible to catch you in the explosive force of their own bodies. Better keep away to not also be torn apart! These were just a few examples for the new attacks enemies will use, but there are plenty more. Have fun discovering them!

General Changes


We've received plenty of feedback from you, our players, on a multitude of platforms over the past few weeks. Taking your wishes and ideas to heart, we've decided to implement a few more general changes that'll influence all difficulties. Here are some we'd like to put to your attention:

New Snaptor variants


To make the riverbed Snaptors more exciting and interesting to fight we've decided to add some more variants to their flock.
The blue Snaptor is a new edition to both normal and insane difficulty, while his green sibling only appears in Insane. Both of these variants have unique attacks that discern them from their kin.

Rework of the Bandit camp



The bandit camp in the north west of Drova has been expanding by adding another cave that's got good use as storage space for, well, whatever a bandit's heart may desire.

New Armor



Since most players seem to spend most of their time in Chapter 1, we've thought about how to improve the armor progression after the long ebb following the leather armor. We've decided to add the new, stronger Heavy Leather Armor to remedy this.

Food Buff Rework



Since food loses its potency in the late game, we've been thinking about ways to make it more useful in the long run. Food will now heal 1-3 life every 4 seconds while losing 1-3 charges depending on the dish. This should make the healing effect significantly more noticeable even at higher levels. ________________________

  • Reduced audio clutter in moor areas when frogs and Bloodfly are fighting each other
  • Removed some mud zones from the Riverbed
  • Moved pickaxe in the Deep Mines to make it easier to find
  • Gras weapon is no longer lootable from below the cliffs
Balancing
  • Changed damage calculations to always deal at least 1 damage
  • Stamina cost of Unarmed Kick increased from 20 to 33
  • Critical damage multiplier of Unarmed Strikes decreased by 50%
  • Strength scaling of Unarmed Strikes decreased by 15-30%
  • Green Frogling Mortar attack spread increased
  • Magic Vision duration increased from 120 to 300 seconds
  • Placement of ambush enemies iterated
  • Ring of Blood healing reduced by 25%
  • Expanded the ruins basement on the knoll of the floodplain forest
  • Expanded the bandit camp in the mountains to the north
  • Root trap poise damage reduced from 50 to 5 per tick
  • Tinker's Revenge bonus damage reduced from 100% to 50%

Dear travelers of the otherworld, The year is soon coming to an end. The Award season has started. And you can also vote for the Steam Awards now. And yes, of course, we'd be happy if you would vote for Drova. We know, our chances are obviously limited with so many great games releasing this year but hey, we also don't know the Steam metrics for whom will win in the end. However, we wanted to use this post in first place to thank you. Honestly, without this amazing community, without you, this journey wouldn't have been possible. As you know, we're not done with Drova just yet. There are two major Updates in the works. And also, this wouldn't be possible without all of you. The games industry these days is in a horrible shape, ruined often by greedy CEOs on the backs of talented people which get fired in the end for not meeting unrealistic expectations. Those people would love to keep supporting their games, nearly all developers want to do that. We love games as much as you do, it is not just a job for us. But in a lot of cases the support can't be offered due to a game not doing well enough or because other things are deemed more profitable. Luckily the indie game scene continues to grow and many studios can create games that dont try to appeal to everyone, but offer unique experiences that take you and your time seriously - however niche they might be. That was our dream here at Just2D. Develop the kind of games that we think are missing in today's market and reach the people that feel similarly to create a community. A celtic village that stands strong against every storm. Drova would never have reached its full potential without you! Feedback Patch Version 1.1 is OUT NOW!

Dear travelers of the Otherworld! Were happy to announce that we just released Content Patch Version 1.1! Since the release of the game weve been collecting and evaluating your feedback and build this version solely based on it. It was a super intense and exciting month for us - and at the same time were now curious how youll like it. We've also prepared a six minute long Update video. Keep in mind the video is in German but of course we've got English subtitles! Roadmap & Patch 1.0.5 Released

Dear explorers of the Otherworld! Today weve got some news for you but lets start with the new patch first. We have released patch version 1.0.5. We have also released a tool via Steam which allows you to create and share custom translations via the Steam Workshop. The tool is a separated download in Steam.

The Future


Since the release of Drova weve been asked countless times if wed go for a DLC. Let us be clear: We want to polish Drova a little longer now. Based on your feedback weve created a roadmap for the coming weeks and months. We have planned three major Updates (next to regular patches) which will further improve the game. Weve read all (!!) your feedback and evaluated what fits for the scope & vision of the game. Were also looking forward to your feedback!
Having that said, we also met up with Deck13 and together weve decided to not start working on a paid DLC for Drova. We dont want to come up with a half-assed cashgrab. Instead were making sure DROVA lives up to the expectations set by the Community and focus on the next step for our Studio and improve ourselves based on the feedback we got. Which means: Yes, we will focus on a new project afterwards. Last but not least theres also a new Devlog Video available which also picks up the Roadmap and adds some further details. Patch 1.0.3 is live

Dear travelers in the Otherworld, we have uploaded the patch version 1.0.3 und just unlocked it to the wild. But first of all we'd like to say something: We have almost reached 1000 reviews on Steam. That's incredible! Never ever would we have expected to hit that milestone so quickly. Thank you for your support Now on the Patch. The full patch notes are listed below. On our Discord you can also find the Known Issues list. To avoid possible deadlocks, we have also introduced a second autosave slot for the Iron Mode. And we would like to hear your feedback on that change, if you can accept that or if you think that's a no go. Please let us know! For console players: We will update a bit delayed, as the consoles have different unique issues. We will add the zoom option back to Switch, fix Xbox not showing savegames in the main menu after updates (you can open character creation and go back to fix until then) and for Playstation we are still waiting for a verification to allow saving the options to the machine. Please keep in mind that after uploading the patches, the console patches still need some additional days to unlock the patch for your machines as they have to pass certification tests from platform holders. Next up, we will read through all the feedback and create our roadmap next week (actually having a meeting with our Publisher Deck13 tomorrow to plan the details). Please understand that we want to collect all feedback before we announce anything and that this will take some time as we are only a small team of 6 people. Fixed Deadlocks


  • Fixed Tiaas meat quest, you can finally give her the meat properly
  • Fixed Deep Mine bug at Jendra where player can't progress after mining the silver
  • Fixed expedition on Remnants side. It coulnd't progress after sleeping
  • Fixed guard errors that occured when having a brawl nearby and walking through the guarded area
  • Fixed the end of Deep Mine where Jendra is supposed to open the wall, but wasn't
  • Fixed two cliff jumps where the character could stuck in the wall afterwards
  • Fixed that Muc didn't want to go to Rura
  • Fixed giving Kora rustmoss
  • Fixed bug where the quest "Missed" couldn't be finished

Changes/Tweaks


  • Satiated buff no longer disappears after sleeping
  • Improved chance to gain items when having mining talents
  • When Aldo is gone, taking items from his shop is no longer a crime
  • When selecting VSync, Framerate is no longer adjustable (these are exclusive to one another)

Bugfixes, Macs, Prices & Mods

Bugs & Fixes


What a launch. At the time we are writing this, we're sitting on 97% positive ratings on Steam. That. Is. Incredible. Thank you for all your support, your feedback and also for the bug reports and feature requests. We're working on a fresh patch for tomorrow (and also will update the console versions as we go, but keep in mind that each patch has to pass certifications first so that naturally takes a few days longer). Fixing various issues you have reported.

Mac Issues


We also fixed a critical bug for Mac Users... which then caused another issue sadly. Savegames did not sychronize correctly. We have fixed the issue but in some cases that might lead to issues with savegames in general. If you lost your savegame, please get in touch with us. There is a Workaround Thread in the Forums as well. If that does not work, please contact us.

Polishing Prices


We've checked the prices for Poland again. RIght now we can not adjust them while the Launch Discount is still active. We were using the regular Steam conversion rate. Turns out that the prices for Poland are too damn high (insert Meme here). We'll adjust these once the Launch Discount is gone and Steam allows us to do so.

Modding


The first Mods have arrived. We still will soon start looking into Workshop (right after the initial bugfixing phase). Please give us some time. When you post in the Forums about your Mods, please make sure to upload to websites we can verify easily (e.g. Nexus Mods). Otherwise we will have to remove the postings in first place to check them later on manually.

Additional Languages


That's kinda related to the mods. With the introduction of the Workshop system we plan to enable community translations. The sheer amount of words in Drova makes translations quite a challenge and rather expensive. And we want to have a certain quality level, so official translations... We will be looking into that. Another option we are currently discussing would be to buy out Community created translations. It's something we have to figure out along the way. We fixed a bug that didn't allow you to give Tiaa the 10 Juicy Meat required for the quest Tiaa's Stew. If you still have a problem with the quest, try to pick something up or consume something. As soon as the inventory is changed it will work again. We are working on another fix for that. If you have a soft- or deadlock, send us your savegame with F2 and we will repair it as quickly as possible and send it back to you. You can also join our Discord and we will help you directly on site. We are also currently live 24/7 on Twitch and stream the time after the release. Greetings everyone! The time has come. DROVA is out now. We hope you will enjoy your journey in this Otherworld which is now finally ready to murder you in so many ways. It feels like a journey coming to end - while it has just begun. Countless playtests, iterations, fixing sessions and feedback rounds during all these years. This is a very emotional day for us. What's Next?


Work hasn't ended. We're already working on some free additional Updates for the game. There are a few things we want to add along the way, such as a hardcore mode for experienced players. And of course, depending on the success of the game, we would like to add more things, especially in terms of translations. We know we have a strong following in Poland for example. Considering the sheer amount of words in DROVA, translations can become quite a risk. However, we are looking into options such as community translations and possible partners. Dear travelers: DROVA's release is getting closer and closer! Were hard at work wrapping things up and making those final tweaks. With launch right around the corner, were focusing on getting everything ready, which means some changes wont be in the demo, and we cant guarantee save game compatibility for now. Drova is a grim world where every man is for himself. After more than six years of development, DROVA finally has a release date carved in stone: October 15th. Dear travelers from the otherworlds, it's this time of the year again! Gamescom has arrived. And we're, once again, at the Indie Arena Booth, showcasing Drova. One. More. Time. Feel free to visit us in Hall 10.2 and say hello, we'll be there till Sunday. With bleeding feet and joy in our bones. And the best thing: We're not showcasing a demo. We brought the full experience with us. Playable on PC and Nintendo Switch. And we'll open up a savegame just for Gamescom. We have finally updated our Demo for the game, introducing tons of improvements, visual upgrades, fixes and finetuned features. Closed Beta We are currently on the final stretch and because of porting we had to break some foundations of our code again so that Drova runs on all target platforms smoothly. This had some unfortunate side effects and we have tried to minimize them as much as possible. In order to get a clean release, we need you! We would like to do a Closed Beta here on Steam where ~15 people get access to Drova and can test the whole game for 2 weeks. We hope to get a lot of bugs and balancing feedback so that we can get a clean release soon. Time frame for Closed Beta: 09.09.2024 to 22.09.2024 Estimated playtime as a tester: 40h+ Please note that we are looking for testers for a Closed Beta. Hello We are amazed and surprised that so many of you have signed up to playtest Drova. We have received a lot of feedback and we have had many conversations about bugs and desired features. Thank you very much for your help. We have received many kind words and these words give us strength to finish the last phase of Drova - the upcoming release. It was originally planned that we would close the playtest on Wednesday, but since there are still so many registrations, we have decided to extend the playtest until Sunday 17 June 2024 and distribute another 150 keys. The Drova Playtest is here!

Hey! The time has come. We have finally invited the first players into the mysterious world of Drova. As we are a small team and we don't know exactly how much feedback we can expect, we've invited the first 100 players now. We will add more the coming days once we know how much feedback we get. This is the first time we're doing a playtest of that scale with our first game - so we need to be careful to not drown in feedback.
Those of you which have access now, feel free to enjoy the 8 - 10 hours of gameplay we've prepared for you. There are some known issues such as the fact that the English translation has not yet been corrected. But we think you'll enjoy your time.

Playtest - Date Announcement

Hey, A new month, a new update video. We have been working on usability, polishing and balancing. We are going to share more details in our upcoming update video 30 (English subtitles available - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyteitj7GP0). Last month we worked very intensively on a version for the international playtest. In German our dialogues are finished and we finally got the first iteration of the English texts aswell and we can now publish the playtest. To take part in the playtest, you need to sign up for it on Steam (you can still sign up NOW). A certain number of registered players will be selected and will be able to play Drova for about 8-10 hours. The playtest will then start on 29.05.2024 and run for 2 weeks. Our goal is to have a clean version for release and we want to have the best possible feedback from you to achieve this goal. It's that time of the year again. Time for another season of "Drova - Arena"! This time with even more cool prizes and new features. All you need to do is launch the Teaser, select "Drova - Arena" within the launcher and click "Play". The Arena is a spin off focused around combat and player feedback to test out system for our upcoming RPG "Drova", which we will start developing in early 2022.

"Drova - Arena" Season 2 launched!

Hey! It is done. More than three months have passed since the last season and a lot has happened in the meantime. We left the basement and we're ready to show what we have been working on.

What is "Drova - Arena"?


The Arena is a spin off focused around combat and player feedback to test out system for our upcoming RPG "Drova", which we will start developing early 2022. Play the most recent version of our combat system! The Arena will be a 5-minute-long, fast-paced arena fight with multiple waves of challengers. We want to present new weapons, new enemies, controller support and a completely revamped UI. Provide us with your feedback and shape the next season of the Arena! You can join our Discord to discuss features, express your criticism or just generally tell us you like or dislike something, even if you can't exactly pinpoint why.

How can I play the Arena?


All you need to do is launch the Teaser, select "Drova - Arena" within the launcher and click "Play". The official release is on 01 December, if you wanna play right now, join our Discord and grab the Early Access key. What are you waiting for?

Are you registered for the prize competition?


Pick up two prizes by playing the Arena! Just join our Discord and type "!register!" in the #registration channel to make yourself known to our Arena Lord. He will then send you a DM containing the arena key, which you will have to insert into the main menu of The Arena to complete your registration. The prize competition ends on 29 December, 2021 11:59 PM CET. First place on the high score list:
  • Become a part of Drova! You always wanted to be a quest NPC or a statue in the world of Draheim? Together with you, we will work out how to immortalize a representation of you in the final game!

"Drova - Arena" Season 2 is coming soon!

Another "Drova - Arena" Season is coming your way - on December 01, 2021, were releasing the second Season with new features and new enemies!

What is "Drova - Arena"?


Even an RPG needs a good combat system, thats why we decided to showcase our combat system in the Arena. We would like to test new weapons, new enemies and other features in an approximately 10 minute long arena fight. The final game will still be an RPG. We want to collect and review your feedback to make Drova as good as we possibly can once we start development of the final game in 2022. In this season we will show you controller support, new weapon types, a revamped UI and new opponents.

How can I play?


There will be an update for the Playable Teaser which enables you to choose between playing the Teaser or The Arena when launching it.

Thats right, you can win two prizes.
    Immortalize yourself in our game and e.g. become an NPC! Additionally, you will be mentioned in the credits. 50 will be raffled among all participants that submitted a score to the leaderboards.

"Drova: The Arena" has launched!

Hey, you! We made it. Two weeks ago we announced The Arena and today is the day. Our coffee supplies are depleted and today we proudly show you what we've been working on in the past three weeks.

What is The Arena?


Dive into the arena and combat mighty foes in a fight for life and death! Will you advance to the rank of gladiator or will you be lying in the mud? Play the most recent version of our combat system! "Drova: The Arena" is coming soon!

A big update for Drova is coming your way - on August 24, 2021, were releasing the first season of Drova: The Arena. Thats already in two weeks!

What is The Arena?


Even an RPG needs a good combat system, thats why we decided to showcase our current combat system in The Arena. We would like to test new weapons, new enemies and other features in an approximately 10 minute long arena fight. The final game will still be an RPG. On one hand we want to show you our current progress as well as collect and review your feedback to make Drova as good as we possibly can. On the other hand, we dont want to leave you in the dark about the state of Drovas development and share our passion about the game with everyone. On August 24, 2021 were launching The Arena. In season one, over the course of four weeks, we will show the revamped spell system, new enemy types and basic enemy AI.

How does The Arena work?


There will be an update for the Playable Teaser which enables you to choose between playing the Teaser or The Arena when launching it. The plan is to continuously improve our games features in cooperation with the players over the course of multiple Arena seasons. This will not be possible without your feedback. Take this chance to participate in the development of an RPG! We gladly accept any feedback that you might have. There will be a form to fill your feedback in but you can also contact developers directly on our Discord. Basically, after you equip yourself at the merchant, we throw you into an arena and you will have to defeat the incoming enemies, much like the gladiators did back in the day. In doing so, youll collect a highscore, for example, for the time needed to complete The Arena. This way you can compare yourselves with other players and you can even win a prize.

Theres a prize?


Thats right, you can win two prizes. After all, we want to give you something in return for giving us feedback.
    First place will live on forever! Together we can work out how exactly you want to be immortalized in our final game, be it as a quest NPC or just a statue. On top of that, you will also receive the exclusive title "Gladiator" on our Community Discord server and you will be mentioned as Gladiator in the credits of the final game! In addition to the main prize, another prize will be raffled among all participants. What exactly itll be will only be revealed once The Arena launches, so stay tuned ;)

Release of a free, playable teaser

Today is a special day for us, as we are releasing a free, playable teaser here on Steam. It showcases the vision of this game. It offers a completely different story from the full game, so you won't be spoiled. Some features are still missing and most features and graphics are being polished or reworked. We are grateful for our community, testers, collaborators, friends and family. Your support is awesome! Of course, this is only a small step and we continue to work hard on the full version to bring you a unique RPG that aims to capture the essence of the Gothic series. Drova - Forsaken Kin is an Action Based RPG filled with handcrafted open world adventures inspired by the much renowned Gothic game series.

A society has discovered the power of a dead empire: to capture the spirits that govern nature and rule over them instead. However, the anger of the remaining spirits divided them. Where will you stand?

Journey through dangerous landscapes, fulfill tasks, fight, trade, take the side in a conflict of factions, gather equipment and become strong enough to survive.
