Welcome back Volunteers to Anna: The Series Test! Dr. Alleyne is all too excited to share with you what she's been working on while she's been away!
First things first, I am well too aware that I should have given you all an update on what was going on behind the scenes months ago; and for that I can only apologize. At the beginning of this year I lost one of my immediate family members and that loss completely threw my whole motivation for working on this game out. All these years I've been creating Anna: The Series Test, this family member was the one who I was always discussing ideas, routes and literally anything else I had planned, with.
Truthfully, they were my main motivation and losing them just killed me. Afterwards, I did try getting back into working, yet without having them by my side to bounce ideas off, I just couldn't. However; recently I've been coping better and in an attempt to get my motivation back I have gone back and remastered nearly all of phase 2.
Okay, with that out the way let's move on to what's new! This update brings with 1809 remastered renders to phase 2 and 3. Plus 13 remastered videos!
Some of these new renders you may have already seen as I've been slowly trickling out updates over the last couple of months as each section has been remade, and these small updates will continue over the near future. Today though comes the biggest of the small updates yet! Which is a full remaster of Alleyne's date event, Cherry fantasy date event, and Freya's phase 3 romance/cherry event.
The scenes affected and remastered are:
Welcome back Volunteers! This announcement is simply a brief update on what's been going on behind the scenes and a showcase of the new outfits coming in the ending phase! Since the phase 5 release a month or two back, I've been pretty quiet on what's been going on with The Series Test, but you'll be happy to know I've been hard at work on the endings and getting everything ready for the full release, which will be the next update. Hopefully this won't be too long now. As far as the endings go, there is roughly about 10 unique endings per replica. This is all based off the affinity system, giving you either a good or bad end based off relationship, then also being matched with what you chose in phase 5 will give various endings. (Not including Kiyomi and Alma) Take Freya as a rough example with this: If you have a good affinity with Freya you'll get a good end; but, if you choose 'option 1' in phase 5 you will get 1 unique version good ending, but if you chose 'option 2' you'll get placed on a different unique good ending. Same with bad and bad endings affinity. And then this will change again based on who you're dating and what you've done throughout. (The example below doesn't include any 'double ends' with two replicas as Freya doesn't have any. Not any what are set up on her side at least.) [olist]
Good News Volunteers! Anna The Series Test: Phase 5 release is finally upon us! Plus there's now an in-game guide! But... The Series Test isn't over!
Dr Alleyne welcomes you all back to Series Shores Volunteers for the new phase 5 update! She's been hard at work preparing the next phase of the test for you and she can't wait to show you all what she's been working on! This phase you'll be travelling deep inside Aiko's mind, solving a murder case with Sheriff Way and exploring forgotten cities and beautiful mountain tops with the Valentina girls! But... There is a catch.
I should probably start with the catch, so phase 5 is releasing, but this is not the final version of Anna: The Series Test. Instead this is version 0.95, the next release will be the final version. What this means is you can play the game up until the end of phase 5 now, yet currently there's no ending to the game.
Why am I releasing phase 5 without the ending? The main reason for this is because there's going to be so many unique and varied endings in the full version, it's going to take me some time to get these complete. So in the mean time I'm releasing phase 5 so you can get a full round experience with the girls of Series Shores and see how their phases close off, before the ending of the game comes.
So, although this is the new phase 5 update, this only includes 6 new scenes which close off phase 5 from where you last left off. There is one for each replica, and two for Alma as her path split back in phase 3. (The seventh scene for Aer's replica was released a month back.) There are no new scenes for Alleyne, but her phase 1 and 2 renders have been updated to newer versions.
Alongside this update, there is now a fully functional in-game guide which can be accessed from the main menu and the quick menu while in the game. This includes how to unlock all the True Routes, the date routes, the secret routes and events. Plus some secret events in the game you may not have found.
There's always been a guide in the discussions but it's easily missed and a hassle to keep switching back and fourth to see where you want to go, so now you can easily plan out your test while in game from the menus and then follow that path all the way through.
All this unfortunately means this update is smaller than the usual updates with only 850+ new renders, 6 new scenes for the normal mode and 6 scenes for fantasy mode. Kiyomi Sasaki is now romanceable. (It's early for her relationship so full scenes will come with the ending update. Although if you really want to make some sweet love to Kiyomi, follow her and Alma's true route.)
Okay so what does this new phase offer?
Good evening Volunteers! I haven't really got much to say here, this is only small news of an update which will be rolling out within the next hour which will change the beginning town intro scene. The renders and such will stay the same, but all the scripting and interactions you have with the replicas has been edited to more fitting with their personalities. I've already mentioned before about how I've gone back and changed the early game to make it more in-line with the rest of the game as my skills developed, same thing has happened here really. As the game developed so did the replicas personalities and it no longer felt like this beginning intro reflected who they are. Freya's supposed to start off cold towards you and grow from there, as one example. Also having Kiyomi telling you to F*** off in the first five seconds didn't fit who she is. She's heartless toward you, but not crude. So yeah, this is just a small script change to make the replicas feel more like themselves. Encase anyone was wondering what was changed. Still hard at work on phase 5 and now only Kiyomi's scene left to complete. Good news there! Enjoy your weekends Volunteers! (An edit to this update, today the game has also been updated with a new GUI textbox as the due to the transparency on the previous one, it was sometimes difficult to read the text. Hopefully this new GUI will correct that problem. Also the default text could be difficult to read, there was always the option to change font in the preferences, but this wasn't always picked up upon. So the new default text is more clean and easy to read. You can still change your choice in the preferences menu.) (Lastly, I recently noticed a bug where if you were on Aiko's true route and selected Freya to evict at the end of phase 3, it would crash the game. I believe this a new bug released in a recent update, either way, it is now fixed.)
Good News Volunteers! A new update for Anna: The Series Test is now available!
Recently the 2 year anniversary of The Series Test passed and I missed it! I've been so caught up on working on phase 5 and the endings so I can have the game released in its full version this year, that I let this milestone pass by. But, good news, today I'm releasing a small content update to celebrate.
Admittedly this is a very small update with only one new added scene with about 35 renders and one new soundtrack. But, it's a start for what's to come next.
For those of you who have taken Alei-yin's route, you may have seen you have the option to pick Aer's replica as your finally candidate if you followed closely enough; and admittedly, I always felt guilty for leaving this end the way it was for the phase 4 release. With all the other replicas you were given the final scene with the portal, yet with Aer, you never got this. It just sort of faded out.
So this update is an apology to our favourite Volunteer! After all, The Series Test would be nothing without Aer.
Releasing today is an additional scene which will come after your final pick if you have chosen Aer as your final candidate. In this scene you will be visiting someone very special to her and asking for advice on where to go next. Adding in a whole lot of emotional depth and understanding to why the Xiao's are close as they are now. Here are a few teasers from this update.
Also, along with this update is a few new updated renders of phase 1, and a re-work of 'Alleyne's' dance routine.
It's no secret I'm not a fan of the original phase 1 and 2 renders, and that I've been going back and re-working them when I have the time. Already all of the replicas phase 1 routes have been updated and now so have Alei-yin and Aer-dula's. These updates are now live, and I'll show off the differences below.
As for phase 5! It's getting there!
Moving onto news for phase 5 and the end of The Series Test. Previously I took some time off to work on Cherry's true route (which is already live), after though it was full steam ahead on working on the main storyline and we're getting there.
Already complete is Aiko's, Freya's and Cherry's phase 5 route. Script, story and renders complete. While Kiyomi's and Alma's phase 5 routes are scripted and only needed rendering. Once these are finally done I can move onto implementing the endings into the game and I'm complete. (Minus the Xiao's trials and True routes.)
With this though, I am unsure whether to release phase 5 when it's complete, as this will only include 1 scene per replica, or whether I should wait until the ends are complete too so the next update is a well-rounded ending to the game. Start to finish, it's there. I'll decide more on this later. If you have an opinion though, I'd love to hear.
Lastly, for endings I'm in the process of planning out all where everything ends up and currently we are pushing over 50 unique endings!!! 50!!! In theory there are 97 different ways for the test to end, some are going to share endings, so shortened down, there should be over 50 unique ways for you to end your test!! (Truthfully, I'd planned about 13 when I started the game, but over time the game has just grown and evolved so much, with dating Alei-yin, Cherry, Alma. Then Jordana coming into the mix and the ghosts.... And this isn't even including true routes or the Xiao trails.)
A tease of Cherry's, Aiko's and Freya's phase 5 are below.
So yeah, that's all I got share for now. If you happen to jump back into Series Shores to see Aer's new scene or the updated renders, please let me know what you think. Besides that, I'll share more news with you when I've got it!
Stay awesome Volunteers!! Dr Alleyne will catch you soon.
Just a quick note on the update which will be releasing today. A re-work to Aiko's and Freya's phase 1 routes, plus minor bug fixes.
Hello Volunteers! As the title suggests this is just an announcement on a small update releasing today. This isn't going to be nothing big, nor any new content, but it is a re-work to both Aiko's and Freya's phase 1 renders; meaning all of phase 1 main stories have now be re-rendered. Also there's a few minor bug fixes and spelling errors being fixed in this update.
So yeah, isn't much more I can say here. Phase five is still in the works and progress is going good. I'll have more information on that as it becomes available. Below I'll put a few of the new renders compared to the old ones, old ones on top, plus a showcase of the phase 5 outfits.
Thanks again Volunteers! Dr Alleyne will hopefully see you all soon for Phase 5 of Anna: The Series Test.
Good news Volunteers!! Your first dive into the True Routes is finally here, in the way of one Mrs Cherry Valentina! Discover her new extended story where she becomes a little too close with The Mother.
In this new update you'll continue down Cherry's path as she allows herself to become further consumed by the Mother's ideologies. After remembering a traumatic memory Cherry's emotions become consumed by depression which slowly twists itself into a bloody thirsty urge for revenge.
With both the Xiao's and Princess Michiyo on her list. Who will walk free when Cherry starts to wage a one woman war on Series Shores?
Can the Xiao's fix the ever so innocent and Series Shores most loveable replica, or will the darkness consume her and leave Xiao blood running? Find out now in the newest update. Cherry Valentina's True Route!
Unfortunately, this update does come with a slight disclaimer. This update is, for better choice of words, early access to the early access. This update does give a full story add on, equivalent to roughly a quarter of a phase. (240 new renders and 5 scenes.) But it is unfinished.
Without trying to bore you all, recently I've been going through some personal stress and I don't know whether that's why, but I weirdly feel like this new scenario isn't working to the best it could be. Personally I think, I could make this route better, but I'm not sure if that's because of the stress or over-working myself.
So that's why I'm putting out this update now, hoping if anyone has the time they could give it a run through and let me know what works and don't work in the discussions. Whether it's alright, or it could be better. (You can find out how to access Cherry's True route in the guide. Also in the discussions.) In future there will be a scene selection system like the normal routes, and the music may be edited. But yeah... If anyone has the time I would appreciate any helpful feedback.
That's going to be from me, and as a last note I'll drop some renders from the new update below here. Thanks again everyone! Hope you enjoy the latest addition to the test Alleyne has given you.
This announcement is just a quick update on what to expect going forward in The Series Test now that phase 4 is live. The name sort of gives that away.
It's been one or two weeks now since phase four went live and I hope you all enjoyed jumping back into Series Shores to see what this phase had to offer, but now phase four is live, the question is; what comes next?
Now, I would love to say that phase five and the ending comes next; however due to the amount of varying endings this game has and plus there's still one full scene left to come for each replica, this is going to take some time to create. Each phase comes with new outfits, new stories and most importantly new outfits which take a long time to create. Now the holiday season is over, it is back to full working schedule and hopefully this next phase will be worth the wait.
So phase five is going to take sometime, but what about now? Well, I'm happy to say the true routes will be coming soon!
While working on phase 5, I am also going to be working on bringing each true route up to date with the phase 4 release so everything runs smoothly into phase 5 and the ending. Between now and the phase 5 release I am going to be releasing each true route update as it is ready! So no more waiting for a huge update, but as each new phase is complete it will go live!
Currently I am working on Cherry's true route so once that is complete, you'll be able to play it while I work on the others. Hopefully this will give you all something to tide you over while you wait for phase 5 and each new route. The current schedule is:
- Cherry's true route.
- Aiko/Freya true route.
- Aiko's true route.
- Freya's true route.
- Alma's true route.
- Kiyomi's true route.
This is subject to change but Cherry is definitely coming first. As a side-note, The Xiao Trials have been placed on the backburner until after phase 5 release. This will still be free add-on content and not DLC.
Also as a side to that, I have been periodically going back and redoing all the renders from phase one and two to make them more up to par with what is being released now. In the last year or two I've been creating this game I've learned so much and want to correct early renders. I mean, honestly tell me the new render doesn't look miles better than the original below. (These new renders were already released in the new update and each are the same render. Besides the Alleyne one.)
So yeah, that's basically it. A rundown on what's going on behind the scenes. Phase 5 is being worked on. The True routes will be released as they are complete and the game is being tidied up as we go and thank again Volunteers for all the support!! I appreciate you all.
###
One last little bit here for anyone who has played the new update and has gone a certain route. You may have noticed a new warning there when you started up the game. All of that content is entirely avoidable. Anyone who does know what I'm talking about? Being a massive Alleyne fan myself, creating this scene below? It was a HEARTBREAKING NIGHTMARE!
Excellent news Volunteers! After spending ten long months in the Alleyne's lab, Anna: The Series Test phase 4 is finally here, and playable now! Dr Alleyne can't wait to share with you all what she's been working on!
This phase is jam-packed with content from start to finish, plus reworked scenes from the original release. This phase is going to push you into the hardest choice you've made in The Series Test so far and it's going to be asking you; who's your victor for The Series Test?
Phase four is going to have you walking through Alleyne's test and connecting with her replica's while they are at their most emotional state. Each replica has encountered The Mother in some way or another in their previous, cloned, lives. Now this phase you'll be visiting the replica's in their homes all so you can ask them the most important questions of all. Who is The Mother? How do you know her? And, can you end her rebirth?
So, what has Alleyne prepared for you this phase? Let's find out:
- Kiyomi Sasaki:
This phase you'll be visiting Kiyomi's private abode trying to figure what exactly it is the master assassin knows. Only problem is, while you've been laying out your plans, Kiyomi's been making plans of her own. What's Kiyomi really been up to this whole time you've been loitering around Series Shores, and how much of what she's found out will she be willing to share with you?
Kiyomi story comes to a decisive choice this phase which lay you on the path of betrayal or mutual trust. Does Kiyomi care enough to let you make the choice or will she make it herself?
- Aiko Michiyo-Sasaki:
Every single time you've encountered the princess of insanity thus far, she's been a unpredictable cannon of sheer violence and madness. Now you're catching Princess Aiko in her own home, will she be stable? Stable as she can be at least.
Aiko holds the key to The Mother's previous demise and that is a key you so desperately need. But what exactly happened when Aiko encountered The Mother last time, and why did she do what she did? Time to step into insanities lair and find out.
- Alma Way:
Sheriff Alma Way has always been somewhat of a wild card. She wants you think she trusts you, you want to trust her, but do you? Does she? What did you do in phase three? Did you spill the beans to the Sheriff or have you played your cards close to your chest?
Depending on what you chose in phase 3, depends on where Alma's phase goes this time as it splits into two paths. Are you planning to have the Sheriff help you blow Series Shores wide open or do you want to keep her locked in her own mind doing your bidding?
- Cherry Valentina:
Cherry Valentina has been so excited to show you all the treasures Series Shores offers. She's been happy to live in her own world ignoring the darkest sides of life her replica sisters hold. Yet what will she do when you bring the darker side to her doorstep?
This phase you'll be meeting Cherry in her home, or yours if you're loved up, while trying to uncover whether Cherry has a darker side lurking within. A darker side you're going to need if you ever want to stop The Mother's threat. After all these months though, have you hardened Cherry's resolve or has she softened yours?
- Freya Valentina:
The most tortured soul in Series Shores, Freya Valentina, is she still in your test or was her hatred toward your kind too much for you to handle? This phase you'll be learning all about Freya's history and why she detests humanity so much. Is her hatred just, or is this a woman who's bottled up so many bad memories that she's now bound to explode?
Freya only wants to live a peaceful life. She's been through the worst and now only wishes to hide away from the rest of the world. Question is, are you going to let her? Or is the power she holds too much to pass up on? Even if it means destroying another's life.
- Alei-yin Xiao:
Alei-yin has more content in this phase than she's ever had before and this time she'll fill in all the blanks you been holding onto for months. Who is Apex? Who is The Mother? Who are you?
Plus, after phase three's heated ending, the cold doctor has some explaining to do herself. What exactly has she been doing to the replicas once you push their buttons? Find out in phase 4.
So, as you can see there is lots of content going on in phase 4 and that's just explaining the basic routes without dipping into the variations each one has, or the secret routes where things will go a little off course. As always I will warn that due to the amount of varying paths in this game, to see all the new content will require more than one playthrough. If you are playing on one route there is loads of content for you, but there is more elsewhere.
Update notes and content include in the new update:
Hello Volunteers! This is has been long overdue, so now I think it's time I give you all an update on what's been going on behind the scenes, plus the planned release schedule for the next update! First and foremost, this announcement is going to be both good and bad news. I'll sour you all with the bad news first and then move onto the good news once this paragraph is over. Get it out the way, so to speak. So bad news first; an update is going to be coming soon, but it's only going to be a core storyline update. (Main story and fantasy mode.) This means it won't have any true route updates or any Xiao Trials updates coming with it. Those will be released shortly after once they are complete. This also means the update may feel shorter, however it's come to a time where a core update is better than no update. I am sorry for the delay. This core story-line update will take you to your final choice and end after. This is due to my living situation drastically changing recently, and therefor having taken claim to some of the time I dedicate to creating The Series Test. Over the last two months I've gone from living alone to taking care of two nephews and a busy house... Big change, you could imagine. So the game is still being worked on, however the next update will be 0.87 and then 0.9 when the true routes are released too. Also I will be stopping my patreon at the end of this month as I no longer have the time to make new and fresh wallpapers for there, but I am still building a collection to add to the DLC upon 0.9 release. On to the good news! When is the next update? Within the next 30 days! Unfortunately I can't give an exact day count, but I am in the final stages of completing everything necessary to get through phase 4 and onto your last choice. The hardest choice by far. Even though this update is going to be missing the true routes and Xiao Trails update, and it may feel short on one playthrough, it is anything but. This phase is going to be jam-packed with so much varying content that you'll missing out if you don't seek it all:
We're finally here Volunteers! The first, and hopefully second, DLC release!! Dr Alleyne can't wait to show you what she's been working on!
So releasing today, and hopefully over the next few days, is not one but two DLC add-ons coming for Anna: The Series Test! Going to be upfront about this first, the DLC isn't any story add-on, it's simply artwork and lore.
Encase the DLC isn't shown on the store page, get it here.
The first DLC which should be going live any second now is 200+ 4k renders/wallpapers of all your favourite replicas. Whether the giantess Freya Valentina or the cocky Alma Way is your flavour, maybe even the Xiao's are your thing, either way you are going to be covered here.
Over 200 renders of all the gals you've come to know and love in Series Shores in a mismatch of scenarios. Some are adult themed while others will be more acceptable with your family. It isn't even just the replicas getting involved, it's everyone! From the the weirdly loveable Xiao's to the true woman who our replicas are based off. The best news?! It's going to keep on growing!! For free!
That's right, get the DLC now and it will updated again upon the release of the phase 4 update! Great news, best news as our beloved Aiko would say.
The reason for this is because these renders are a collection of all the renders I've released over on my patreon over the last few months and I release new renders every two weeks. So get them there early, or wait and when I release phase 4 I'm going to update this volume with any new ones which will release between now and then.
Lovign scenes like this? Well, there's atleast 200 more where these come from.
The second DLC, which is still going through the process of getting reviewed and I pray it makes it, Is all four novels Anna: The Series Test is based off in PDF form.
Four complete novels for the price of one paperback release! Dr Alleyne loves to offer a bargain where she can. So if your aching to learn more about your favourite replica why not pick up their origin story and uncover all those mysterious details who made them who they were? No better time really, not now that the woman from the novels have started appearing all over Series Shores in the true routes!
In the first novel you'll learn all about our favourite detective Alma Way. Book two offers a tale of Kiyomi's daring prison escape and revenge against Little Tokyo. In book three you'll span a decade learning the origins of Freya and the Anna. Lastly book 4 is a two part story telling the twisted birth of our beloved Princess Aiko and a detailed memoir written by Cherry who's seeking a mother!
To be honest again, I'm not sure whether story DLC is on the cards for The Series Test at the moment. My original plan was to make The Xiao Trials DLC, but you've all already supported me so much through this journey I wanted to give you something in return. Maybe once The Series Test is complete, but I already have a concept in mind for a second release..... We'll see how it goes.
Thanks again Volunteers! You are all awesome!! Each and every one of you!
Welcome Volunteers! Some exciting news coming for phase 4! It's been a month or so since I update you all with what's been going on and today I hit sort of a milestone in creation so figured it was a good time. This is sort of going to be a brief update on progress and a showcase of al the replica, plus Alei's and Aer's, phase 4 looks. Plus the reveal of a brand new character coming to Series Shores in phase 4! Our favourite detectives estranged wife, Jordana Way. Firstly, progress update on phase 4! I'd love to say phase 4 is reaching the end of it's development, but it all really depends on time. The good news is I'm getting pretty darn close. All the replicas main stories have been complete and rendered being ready to go. Leaving the only thing left to work on being the true routes and The Xiao trials. This phase you'll be seeking out the replicas in their homes where they are most likely to open up to you about what it is you truly seek, The Mother. With time running short and Alleyne on your back you become more desperate than ever to through your test and hopefully make it home. Who with though is still your choice.
It's finally here! Well, a tease of it is here. Today you can make your start in The Xiao Trials!
I think I've spoken about this before, but upon full release of The Series Test, there will be a new game mode included called The Xiao Trials. In this mode you will take control of Dr Alleyne herself as she tries to make it through her own test.
Now unlike Aer-dula's test, which is all player choice with the evictions, this new mode will be completely random and based off a random number generator. At the beginning of each phase the game will roll and random number and that phase the corresponding replica will malfunction magnificently! It's the Series Test but fully randomized!!
This mode is still a work in progress and the first proper draft with choices should be playable come phase 4 release, for now though? A tease!
Just released is the start of The Xiao Trials which introduces you to all the familiar characters plus one extra and let's you get a feel for Dr Alleyne's 'quirky' personality.
Because of Alleyne's lewd and crude personailty, this mode is a mix of Fantasy mode and regular mode.
Come on, how can you not love that face?! And now she's not giving away all her resources to keep her favourite Volunteer alive, she finally has some cheeks! Both kinds! So if you fancy hoping in a getting a grip on this new mode, you can try now. And if you have the time, let me know what you think in the discussions on the way this mode is going.... Basically, their personalities and conversations. Do you think they fit each persons persona?
Also, the town intro has been reworked!
it's never been a secret that I wasn't a huge fan on the way the town intro was rendered, (besides the huge memory problem it had. Png's.. Don't use em. Lesson learned.) But it was my first ever dip into rendering and building scenes and the rest. So I've jumped back to my roots and reworked the whole town intro. The script is basically the same, yet all the renders and movies have been re-done to be a lot smoother and crisper. Plus Aiko has a sweet Ooh-ahh dance going on now rather than the other one.
So if you fancy checking out The Xiao Trials, or the new intro, or maybe go back a look for a few true routes, (guide now in discussions.), now's a good time to revisit Series Shores, Volunteers!
Side note on this, I am still working on phase 4. There isn't any updates with the continuing phase in this update as the phases need to be uploaded as a whole and not in parts. More info on that as it comes. :)
Celebrating the one year anniversary of Anna: The Series Test! A huge thank you to everyone! Crazy to think that The Series Test has been on sale for one whole year! Honestly the time has flown by, and I'm ever so grateful to everyone single one of you who has played or shown interest in the game. It's even crazier to think that this started for as a hobby to pass the lockdown isolation and now we're here. One year on.... Wow. As always, a sidenote first. In all truthfulness this anniversary sorta crept up on me, and I've been working so hard on getting phase four ready that I didn't have any time to do anything special to celebrate. So unfortunately, no anniversary update. :( This announcement is more going to be a big thank you and a few insights to the test and how it was nearly completely different. A side-sidenote, as a thank you to everyone who has offered advice, feedback, been active in the discussions and announcements. Plus backed me on patreon. In the next update I'm going to include a thank you wall with all your names on it! (If you don't mind, obviously) I want to give back where I can and this seems doable. :) Going to put the stuff about the journey here first and update news at the bottom, so scroll down if you just after that. :) Anyway, guess I'll begin with how mad it is that we've come this far from where The Series test started. I apologize for only having one major update in the last year, but due to how winding this game is, and it being set in stages kinda helps, it seems ideal to update with each phase. We're now three phases down with two more left! The next update will be end of phase 4, then the last update should be phase 5 with all the endings tying every up. Achievements will also be hopefully integrated with phase 5! This last year has been a journey for me and taught me a lot about game creation, like the do's and don'ts. Like I learned not to render everything as a PNG and at the same time learned to listen to my gut. Also learned a hell of a lot more about the software I'm using allowing the renders to get better with each phase out. On that note: This phase I've gone back and re-worked the town intro and rendered everything again using the skills I've picked up over the last year. So next update, when you enter The Series Test again, everything should look much crisper. Now we're a year deep into the Series Test, I dread to imagine what it would feel like without the sadistic yet loveable Dr Alleyne running the show, truth is though, she nearly wasn't there at all. During the first draft of the Series Test and all the way up to the start, Alleyne didn't exist, neither did Aer-dula. The original plan was to never reveal who you, the volunteer, were until the ending phase, yet during the town intro I needed a set of legs to render so I created Alleyne. (Go back and watch the town intro, those are Alei's legs.) And then when I needed someone to introduce the test I already had Alei so she took the role. Kinda like dating Alleyne, that was never meant to happen, yet to counter Cherry's loveable sweet dating route, I wanted something darker. so in come Alleyne again... But She was also you, and I needed to correct that which gave us Aer-dula, you, the Volunteer. After that while writing the story I wanted to give these woman more of a backstory like the replicas had, problem was I had the replicas stories already written through my books. These women were blank sheets and had endless opportunities and it was a blast to give them the backstory they have. Giving the Xiao's a past and a future, turned the Series Test from a straight shot to the finish to this convoluted love story. After all if you've travelled that route then you know why they are in Series Shores. For love. I dropped so many hints about the Xiao's relationship in phase 2, before it was reveled in phase 3. From writing on their clothes, to slipped sayings, and if the Chinese was translated there was dead give away there. One player actually pointed out their relationship before phase 3 revealed it. And to honour that, Alei actually makes a comment in her route, (Phase 3, 2nd home visit, about how this player already sussed it ages ago.) If anyone has any suspicions about where things are going, Let me here them! Get it right and I'd love to include you in the game. :) There's already loads of hints in phase 3 about phase 4. Not only with the Xiao's but true routes were never going to be a thing either. It ended when it ended, on each replicas single path, but their backstory gave me the opportunity to bring in the real people who these replicas are based off, which in turn, gave me the chance to make secret endings. The true routes. A way to see the actually people you learning about... Take Aiko for example, A few people have mentioned to me about her backstory and how sad it is, well the true routes give you chance to meet the actual women they happened to. See how close she is to her replica. Likewise with dating Cherry, that was an off the cuff decision which worked wonders. Same as dating Aiko, or Freya, all being spur of the moment ideas. Talking about spur of the moment ideas, this phase I've had ideas where you can possible get a secret romance ending with Kiyomi and also a secret ending where Aiko and Cherry end up together... I'm intrigued to see how they play out. So yeah, that's kinda why these updates take so long because when I get ideas like that I'm just like 'Yes! Do it, this can work as a story!' I mean, imagine what The Test would feel like if you couldn't date Alleyne? If you couldn't romance Cherry? Or if there wasn't varying endings where you could go off the rails?! Oh, Fantasy mode! That wasn't going to be a thing either, once again spur of the moment and now... Yeah. :) So thank you to everyone who has stuck by and waited patiently while I just go nuts on every idea which comes to my mind. All in all, it bettered the Series Test for everyone. :) :) Lastly for the rundown on a years work. Some player choices and feedback given by the community! When people contact me via email, or in the discussions, I always ask about their choices, favourites and route on their first playthrough. So here's a few rough statistics based on those responses.
We're another month deeper into The Series Test and another month closer to the next phase being released! Which is great news, but I was hoping for a bit of feedback this month if anyone has time!
Going to break this up into three sections as there is three different subjects I'd like to talk about. Not really a necessary read, but I haven't done a monthly update in a while so here it goes.
First off, does anyone have any opinions about a guide?
Since the release of phase 3 I've received a few emails and comments about how to uncover the six (seven if you count Alei-yin's) true routes in the game. I always intended The Series Test to be a play as you go experience where you're never quite too sure of where your choices would lead you. That way you can try out different options and be surprised when you get the next outcome. Leaving mystery behind your choice... However, I can also see how it can be annoying trying to get down one specific route but missing it because of one wrong choice and then having to go back and do the same thing trying to figure out what went wrong.
So with this in mind, what are peoples opinions on making a guide? Do you feel like it would take the mystery and choice out of the game or would you rather have the option to sort of pre-pick your path?
I could either draw up a guide on steam, or implement on into the game itself. (This would be just a guide on how to get the true routes though. Just bullet points on what options to take and all story aspects would stay removed. I'll tell you how to get to the ending, just not what's in it.)
Secondly, on about player choice. I'm happy to announce the development of the Xiao Trails!
This will be an entirely new story (hopefully coming in phase 4 and for free. It won't be DLC) which is going to take The Series Test in a whole new direction! The test now is all centered around player choice and what you pick. So I figured, what would happen if you took that out? Well, you get the Xiao Trails!
You'll enter Series Shores again, but this time playing as a new volunteer, Alleyne Xiao. The difference with this mode is that the game will be completely random as you experience the complete meltdown of the test. The replicas will fly off the rails, things will go wrong, and you will have to survive.
This new mode will all be based off a random number generator. At the beginning of each phase the game will run a random generator, assign a value to each replica, and during the course of that phase the replica chosen will malfunction magnificently!! Only problem being, you'll never know what replica it is until it happens. It's The Series Test, but fully randomized!
There won't be any true routes in this mode, as the randomness would simply make getting to one near on impossible. How it will actually end is to be worked on.
Lastly, an update on phase 4 and the free wallpapers.
This time around I'm not going to overestimate my abilities and say the next update will be finished within a month, (hopefully two or three months max. Hopefully.) The addition of true routes has increased the work load, although it does add substantially more to each update. However to make up for this I am releasing free 4K wallpapers to my patreon every other Tuesday. There is no need to be a patreon either! It's simply the easiest way for me to offer you free extras Although I do release more adult orientated wallpapers for those who sign up. Patreon doesn't allow post involving nudity public.
Last week I uploaded 16 free 4k wallpapers, 3 of each character! Two weeks ago I released 6 wallpapers with Aiko's many different outfits. Grab them for free here!
So thank you everyone for being here, I appreciate you all and the support you give just by playing the game, enjoying my stories and letting me ramble on once a month. This month I finished off the aftermath of phase 3 and Freya's phase 4 route so i'll leave a quick glimpse of that below.
But yeah, thank you all!!
If anyone happened to notice an update roll out last night, it was nothing too serious. A few minor grammar and spelling corrections. Also some sound files have been added giving Alleyne a voice!
The most outspoken person in the whole Series Test finally has a voice to use, partially anyway. The latest small update adds some spoken words in a tone befitting of the sadistic doctor. Despite her very abrupt and bitchy personality, I've always had the idea of Alleyne being a sweet and caring woman at heart who has been trapped in her own nightmare. One created by another which lies beyond her control.
So I saw it only fitting to give her a soft spoken tone, a gentle voice to introduce you to the test and guide you through. Some dialogue is spoken in Mandarin, which is then repeated in English. Please remember Alleyne, or Alei-yin, is a Chinese native running an test which takes place in China.
(All dialogue is optional and can be turned off in the settings menu by turning the sound bar down in the options. This will not effect the soundtrack. Also a few people have asked me about the pronunciations of some names, mainly Alei-yin and Aer-dula, this may help there.)
In the future I am looking at getting the whole test voice acted, but with so much varying dialogue and actual dialogue, this is no easy feat. With that said, if there is anyone out there who voice acts or wants to give it a try please feel free to reach out to me. :)
Anyway! Moving on and continuing with Kiyomi's renders, I'm still keeping up with offering biweekly free 4k renders on patreon. This week is 8 free 4k renders on Kiyomi. You do not need to be a patreon to download them either! Completely free and there will be more every other Tuesday! I'll try to make this the last time I mention patreon here. Sorry.
Kiyomi's 4k Renders!
Thanks again Volunteers! Appreciate you all!
So I've opened up a patreon account! Where I will be uploading weekly/biweekly 4k renders and wallpapers.
That's pretty much going to be the bulk of this announcement. Although at the end of this part I will be showcasing the new look the Volunteer (Aer-dula/or what ever you've decided to name her) will have in the coming phase 4.
So every Tuesday I will be uploading 4k downloadable exclusive renders to patreon. Except they will work on a biweekly basis. Starting from today every other Tuesday I will be uploading between 5-10 wallpapers for those who are patreons. (This week was Alma, Aer-dula, and Freya's new submissive outfit from her AIko/Freya route.) However, every Tuesday between that (so week on, week off.) I'll be uploading 3-6 free 4k renders for anyone. Even if you're not a patreon you'll have access. You can find me on patreon here.
I will still be updating steam monthly with showcases on renders and progress news! There is no need to sign up. In all honesty just having people play the game makes it all worth it. So this is more for those who want to communicate with me or want the extra wallpapers.
This part is just me going over my reasons why I opened up a patreon. For the new Aer-dula look scroll to the bottom. :)
Opening up a patreon account was something I've been toying with for a while. At first I wasn't going to because I didn't want it to feel like I was forcing people over there and hopefully I'm still not, but Anna: The Series Test has grown way more than I ever thought it would. (Honestly I'm so grateful.) So I wanted to find a way where I can give something back to those who have supported this project and patreon is probably the best way to achieve that.
Making The Series Test takes a considerable amount time because literally everything is made from scratch by me. Now, I've always tried to have full transparency with everyone about what's happening behind the scenes. So in truth, I suppose opening up a patreon is kind of a two fold thing. One so I can offer people the 4k renders, but also so I hopefully make this my full time career one day. Creating this game has shown me how much I love doing this sort of thing and after the test is done I'd love to move on to other projects and patreon is likely the best way to support that career change. (Kinda a selfish reason there, but it's an honest one.)
Yeah, that's about it. Hopefully everyone can understand why. Once more, there is no need at all to support me there because you being here is already so much! But if you do chose to do so then you have my upmost thanks!
Anyway moving on to Aer-dula's new look this phase! Hope everyone is enjoying phase 3 so far!!
Good New Volunteers! Phase 3 of the Series Test and update V0.8 is now live! I'm going to put this part first as it's the most important. With phase 3 of Anna: The Series Test going live today, the price of the game will be rising over the next few days. (Pending Approval.) This won't affect anyone who has already purchased the game or purchases it before the change. This update has been another 8 months of non-stop work and passion for me, as well as doubling the amount of content Anna: The Series Test already has to offer. I just felt like I needed to be upfront about this so there isn't any surprise or confusion about pricing further down the line. Now on to the good stuff! Here's the update changes for version 0.8:
Finally The long overdue news on what's been happening within Anna: The Series Test! So starting off with the good news! Update 0.8 is finally coming close to release! I'm aware everybody is probably thinking; About time! Trust me I am too. But the delay has a good side which allowed me to include so much more in this update than originally planned. As for when? Hopefully two weeks! Definitely by the end of January. Currently I am just adding in the button choices and the scenes which follow after and then, as Cherry would say, Boo-Yah! All done and ready for release. What's the update going to include? Here's a quick bullet-point rundown of what to expect:
Three Month Progress Update!
Just going to get it out there first off, the reason this announcement is a bit delayed and the reason the update didn't come out this month is because I've spent the last two and a half weeks fighting the real world virus threat. (Not been a good few weeks, personally speaking.)
The good news is that all the scripting is done and now everything which wasn't completed previously is now in the rendering phase, which leads straight onto release! All phase three stories, true routes, missing replica scenes, plus bonus scenes are all in their final cycles, so hopefully not too long at all now until phase three release.
Because I'm so close to release now I'm not doing the bullet-point checklist, but here are a few renders of this phase. A sneak peek of things to come. :)
Hello Volunteers! Here to quickly give you the monthly rundown on the progress I've made towards getting the next phase out to you all! And an apology for not having it out this month like I'd originally hoped. I'll start this by apologizing for the next phase not being rolled out this month. I've tried my hardest to get the next phase complete for release, but unfortunately it just hasn't happened. That's not to say progress hasn't been made because it definitely has, and I'll run through that in a minute, but truthfully the delay is simply because I've just had so many new ideas and routes I want to take the test this phase and when I get ideas like that I just run with them. For example, in the early stages of this games development Alleyne wasn't even a character who was going to be included. She wasn't implemented until months later and that was only because I needed someone to introduce you to the test. So I created Alleyne, loved the personality I'd given her and then all these mad storylines came to me on who she could be and what she could do. Now she's the biggest part of the test. So I hope you'll all bare with me while I try to run with more ideas like these, they will only better your experience. Okay so now that is out the way I'll move on to how far phase three has come:
It's been one month since the release of, Anna the Series Test. And honestly I'm shocked and overjoyed to see that so many people have enjoyed it this far. When I was creating this game, from the first idea up to it's release, I wasn't sure if even one person would play it so to see how well it's doing now is great. So thank you to everyone who played it and every one who's left a review, they help out so much!! Anyway.... Enough about that, let's move on to progress. Progress made in the last month:
The Gallery Update! The newest update adds a unlockable gallery to the main menu which will allow the scenes you've come across to be viewed at your own leisure with out having to go back to find them in the story every time. Which is handy if you know what you're looking for. It also gives out rough hints (in the form of titles) saying where these scenes maybe. The majority are in the Fantasy Mode. Handy for a completionist who wants to see everything available, but also for highlighting some scenes and routes you may not of known existed. Don't worry, Anna Series is still being worked on! Just because the game is out now doesn't mean the work stops. Everyday I'm continuing to add more content and routes for phase three and beyond. The game will be updated with each new phase as it's complete. Roughly expect these updates to be between a month or two apart. (This is a full solo creation, meaning it takes time. Hope you understand and thanks for the patience.) Lastly, if you did like the game so far and have the time then please drop a review or email me (annaseries22@outlook.com) to let me know what you think! This is my first game, so all the feedback and the reviews help me figure out what works and what doesn't. Helps shapes The Series Test into the best version it can be. I will be updating here with news as much as possible. But I do update my patreon on the 15th and 30th (AnnaSeries) every month with everything I've done in the passing 15 days. It is all free! You don't need to subscribe to see the content there. I want this game to be as accessible to everyone as possible. So yeah, that's that. Once again a big thank you and shoutout to everyone who has played and enjoyed the game. Even if you didn't the fact that you were here is good enough for me! Appreciate you all! Until the next update!
