Its here! Whether you want to chill to Marina Montagues soothing dragonsong, groove to Exo Spectras dark electronic arrangements, enjoy Emery Aylars delicate piano work, or spiral into infinity with Maya Faes guest track for Malice, the Ravager Soundtrack has you covered. All of our musicians and singers did a great job creating the soundscape for the game, and its a pleasure to share it with you all. |
I was recently contacted by Annie from SPG - she wanted to record a podcast about monstrous love, and was looking for a guest speaker for the episode. |
Im back! Its been a difficult couple of months for me; Corona-chan hit me particularly hard this time around. Fortunately, we have an excellent team, and they have kept everything in motion in my absence (and while Ive been catching back up) - something I am extremely grateful for. |
The Ravager soundtrack will launch on 26th April, in two weeks! It features all variations of the Dragonsong composed and sung by our voice actress Marina Montague, the electronic suites created by Exo Spectra and arranged by GreyScale, and the guest compositions by Emery Aylar and Maya Fae. |

Midwinter is always the most cursed period of development - a constant onslaught of plagues, family commitments, and other terrible woes. This year, weve been able to keep the smut-engines running (at a slightly slower pace) throughout. Now the ice is thawing, spring is around the corner, and were revving up for the most pivotal year in our journey. |
For those of you who celebrate lunar new year, this might be the most exciting time in the calendar. And it can't have escaped your notice that we are welcoming in the Year Of The Dragon. I'm not usually one for festive art - however, this kind of opportunity does not come around often (or, indeed, ever will again). So here's a little bonus pic from Undoodle: |

I am back! After a month spent catching up on sleep (and very occasionally other things), I am settled at my desk and burning through all the delicious content that was crafted whilst I was away. It is going slightly slower than I would like, thanks to my first personal introduction to COVID, but you can still look forward to a slightly-delayed release this coming weekend. |

Hail, conquerors! I am learning from the last State Of The Realm post and getting this one in early, in the soothing wake of an update, before I am inevitably swept up again in the riptide of pre-release activity. |

Hail to all you draconic kings (and queens, and other assorted monarchs)! This months State Of The Realm is a little later than usual - after the massive release of v5.0.5, I took a much-needed week off to go outside and touch some grass. And a very pleasant week it was. I figured that maybe this month would see a nice little tidying-up build, but no, everyone in the team has been extremely industrious and I am doing all I can to catch up. You should see the results this weekend, assuming playtesting goes smoothly. |

It has been a month of intense ups and downs, back here in the smut factories. Our sound director and good friend Spam passed unexpectedly, and weve taken a short while to find our bearings again. He is succeeded by a kindly group of volunteers: HereToHelp as coordinator, Mokkel and GerdGenus as engineers, and GreyScale as SFX artist. Together, we will finish the work that he was so eager to complete. |

We did it! A years background work, plus three months crunch, and weve turned the page into Act V. Decembers build is the biggest update weve ever done, in word count and file size and technical scope, and I hope youre enjoying the hunt for all its many possibilities. On my side, I have been catching up on sleep, and getting the team ready for our next major undertaking - which is to finish what weve now begun. |

Ah, the curse of H-development! Im not going to lie, it has been a rocky month or two for those of us tending the smut-engines. Both of my co-editors were struck down by multiple woes, which has squeezed our pipeline considerably. But if youre thinking this is a preamble to announce a delay, youd be wrong - we still plan to launch on the 29th December, assuming I can avoid whatever meteors are headed my way. Doing anything of note has always required making rude gestures at fate. |

It has been a hot minute since I had the chance to sit down and put my thoughts to paper. Pushing out a major update is a labour of love - but the umbilical cord has been snipped, and Im proud of the results. If you havent played Version 4.4 yet, I recommend you go do that. Because I think its pretty good, and because Im going to talk a bit about it here. |

I promised you all a major update to enjoy whilst we're putting the finishing touches to v5.0.0. Today's news is that it is (almost) ready to share! |
The last couple of months have heralded a significant expansion of our numbers - the recruitment of Korwu as our second scene artist, HereToHelp as our newest writer, and the return of old hands like Mattrex, DoItToJulia, and Undoodle. This has given us a considerable boost in getting the rest of version 5 done, and weve already finished our second phase of playtesting. |

Its a beautiful time of year, where I am: the weather grows warm, the days grow longer, and my to-do lists grow shorter. Act V has ceased to seem such an insurmountable mountain, and new chunks of it fall into place each week. So hows it all going? |

March is always an exciting month for us - a chance to look backwards, as well as forwards. Because three years ago, I posted the first demo of Ravager (put together over various commutes and late nights) onto Itch. Two years ago, we had a small but devoted following, and the beginnings of a team. One year ago, I was able to finally shuck the day job and give Ravager the full-time focus it deserves. |
In the six months we've been here on Steam, we've sold over ten thousand copies. Which is incredible! Thanks to you, we've been able to acquire the services of a full-time animator, two splash artists, an extra editor, and a lot more voice talent. We've even gained a little of what they call 'resilience', which means we're less vulnerable to the whimsies of crowdfunding platforms and censorship crusades. |

Developing for Steam for the first time is challenging in a few ways, and one of those ways is getting achievements working properly. We've tightened up our playtesting process considerably, but a few particularly pernicious bugs slipped through before we did:
Unfortunately the only way to properly fix these involves resetting cheevie progress for everyone - and, after a lot of thought, that's what we've decided to do. I hate doing things like this, but I figure it's best to rip the band-aid off while we're still relatively early on the platform! This change will give a lot more people the chance to properly enjoy the achievement system we've set up, and hopefully the rest of you won't mind the opportunity to play through it again :) We'll continue to add new achievements as we update, and there becomes ever more to discover. |

Annie over at Sex Positive Gaming has covered Ravager before, in her videos about Monstergirls and Pregnancy, but this latest accolade is a high honour indeed! You can hear more about her thoughts on Ravager, and the other greatest H-games of the year, over on her YouTube channel. Thank you, SPG! |
I hope this deep, dark midwinter (for those in the northern hemisphere) finds you well! Midwinter is always a tricky time for development, between festivities and seasonal blues and winter colds (which are particularly popular this year). But we're continuing our work, and fighting the lewd fight. An update on how it's all going: |

I am quite attached to our release schedule, and our team is put together so that there is no single point of failure. However, even if you do that, sometimes every coder will get knocked out of commission at the same time, and there's not much you can do when that happens. |
Last weeks post left little space to talk about our current endeavours, so heres a quick view on where we are right now! |
Ah, what a time to be alive! With Novembers updates in the bag, were now ready to move on to that greatest of endeavours - Act V. Weve had quite a few questions and speculation about what that involves, which is great; its good to see that everyone is as excited as I am.
More than enough to keep us busy, I think! What Wont It Involve? One of the hardest things in any project is defining and maintaining your scope. It would be tempting to keep adding and expanding things indefinitely - but I dont want the game to spend eternity in development, and I dont think you do either. Ravager is, at its core, a choice-driven narrative visual novel. We could get deep into the weeds of kingdom management and economics and such, but that would leave us with a weird and slightly ugly chimera of different mechanics and tone. Youll still have the ability to determine the fate of the Realm, but itll be through more familiar methods of making decisions - your minions will take care of the accounting. More than a few people are interested in the world beyond the nations borders. So am I! Far too much, in fact, to cram it hurriedly into the end of the game. There are tales to be told of strange places, beautiful inhabitants, and their inevitable conquest beneath the shadow of a very ambitious dragon. More than enough tales to fill a game by itself, so thats what Ill do. How Will It Be Done? Most of our Acts follow a familiar pattern: an introduction, then a large open segment, which dovetails into a climax and transition into the next Act. But with Act V I want to have the chance to show the outcomes of your choices (both previous to and within it) over a longer period. Fortunately, mature dragons have a tendency to slumber - an excellent opportunity to deliver Act V in a series of segments, with the world and cast updating between them. It might be fair to call Act V three smaller Acts in a trenchcoat, but somebody suggested we should call the segments Chapters and I think thats more likely to stick. Each Chapter will be released as a major (main plotline) update, with the first one arriving as v5.0. This also has benefits for you, as you wont have to twiddle your thumbs for a year while we attempt to get everything done in one go. What you will see is that some updates are smaller than usual (because were getting ready for the next Chapter) and some are much, much bigger. When Will It Be Done? Anyone who has followed a game in development, least of all one made by a small team, will know that life laughs at the hubris of developers. But I also think that not setting target dates is an act of gross cowardice - so Ill say that the first instalment of Act V will arrive in early 2022, and I aim to have the main plotline finished before the end of that year. If we continue our current rate of hard work and steady growth, well be able to do that. And What Happens After That? Ravager will continue to receive free updates once the main plotline is finished. We want to bring it to full completion, and that means adding some extra features that would slow our progress if we had adopted them too soon. That includes:
But we wont be resting on our laurels. Our determination to finish Ravager is driven, in part, by our ambitions for games to come. We want to experiment with new genres and themes and technology, and keep on crafting amazing things for as long as the universe will permit. Ravager is just the beginning. |
