You may know that I have been working for months now on my new game about China warlords era. I am glad to announce that Rise of the White Sun is now available on Steam in early access. Unlike the Cauldrons of War games you were acustomed to, Rise of the White Sun also depicts political struggles, diplomacy and province management. What's next?

What I am working on for 2022?



Have you ever dreamt of playing as a Chinese Warlord in the 1920's? I am sure you have never played a game about the Northern Expedition. That will be possible with Rise of the White Sun. The steam page is open now, so you can wishlist it (A playable demo is planned for the first half of 2022, don't miss it) December 1926: as the victorious National Revolutionary Army units commanded by Bai Chongxi are approaching Shanghai, CCP and GMD agents are busy planning an uprising. Behind the scenes, high-ranking warlord officers are negotiating a comfortable future for themselves in exchange for betraying their masters while Jiang Jieshi is plotting with the Green Gang to get rid of his communist allies. This is a time of dishonest plots and brutal action. Have fun!

Cauldrons of War Stalingrad is officially released


From Crimea to Stalingrad and the Caucasus oil fields, lead the Axis or the Soviet forces in the bitter fightings of the eastern Front in 1942. Cauldrons of War - Stalingrad is an immersive 'command at the highest level' wargame with tough decisions to make. Its clean mechanics and low complexity allows the game to focus on what is really important : strategical decisions. There is no micromanagement here, but more depth than you imagine.

Play the main operations in 1942 on the eastern Front :


As the German, will you grasp the Baku oilfields ? As the Soviet, will you trap a whole German army near Stalingrad ?

Play fast and often


: you don't need a 100+ hours investment in a monster game. Some scenarios can be played in 1 or 2 hour. But don't worry, the game contains several scenarios and is challenging enough to keep you entertained for a long time.

Play against the AI or against your friends


: with a hot seat mode and a Play By Email Mode Cauldrons of War - Stalingrad is the second opus of the "Cauldrons series". If ever you have played Cauldrons of War - Barbarsossa, you won't be disoriented, but you will notice some improvements here and there. QUALITY OF LIFE OVERHAUL

It was a promise, it is now done. Cauldrons of War Stalingrad being finished*, I've just pickup some of its new features to increase the CoW Barbarossa quality of life. So, What is new?

Tooltips everywhere & Minimap


I know most of you weren't big fan of consulting the wiki: now, you will just have to hover elements in the operation window long enough to make the tooltip appear. If you hover an action sending a unit somewhere else, a minimap will appear so you won't need to close the operation window to check where exactly on the map you are sending this unit. This feature alone will change your life.

A new map and new display options


Most of the "old maps" are still in the game, but I have added the Stalingrad Map as the default map. You may like the new button on the left :
Click on it to Display the troops on the map.
Now you can quickly visualize if you are really weak somewhere.

Other minor changes


PBEM : -those damn load game buttons are now easy to click -That damn PBEM folder is easy to find and open (I've added a button to do so) English event texts: -They have been reviewed one more time (Thank You Red_Jar), so you should find less misspellings and typos) Bugs: -They should now be even rarer (mostly those bugs that produced strange results at turn change) Have Fun! Cauldrons of War Stalingrad - The HQ Management patch

CoW Stalingrad is evolving fast and some of its features will be added to CoW Barbarossa

You can now transfer ressources between your Army groups or Fronts.


This may not succeed however : Generals were constantly asking for reinforcements and those had to be taken from other Army groups whose general would fight not to let their assets go... You can now too play this petty games. Click on your Fronts or Army Groups : you will see a new HQ icon along your armies. This icon gives you access to new actions : - Ask for more trucks - Ask for more reserves - Ask for more aircrafts If playing as the Axis, you ma be offered the possibility to activate Army Group Crimea if it isn't active. This new transfer feature has been playested in the previous days and seems to work fine. I hope you will enjoy it.

Other minor features


-Turkey can now directly besiege Batumi -Giant Pockets have been added to the western part of the Caucasus -A new Axis event have been added in the case the Army Group Center destroys all the soviets units in Rhzev or Orel. (Some of these features have been added since a week or two , but they are now well tested and debugged, so they make it to the "official patch")

Become a bug buster


In the menu, I've added a "bug report" button : this feature will greatly facilitate my bug hunt. Here is a list of some of the recently killed bugs: -Some Buggy operations have been fixed : Narva, Kharkov, The Caucasus Giant Pockets -You now really score points as the Soviet for taking Kharkov -If you send aircrafts to "briefly" help Model, you won't lose them next turn. -You no longer spend 2 Command points to fight partisans in cleaning operations. Many other minor bugs have fallen, but I just keep track of the "Star Bugs".

The Stalingrad City Scenario


Still in progress... I am testing a lot of ideas... and discard a lot of them. But I am starting to get satisfied. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik

Cauldrons of War - Stalingrad is out!

Finally, after long months of development, Cauldrons of War is out, And I believe the game is allready quite good : Here is the latest review from Tally-Ho Corner ==> Here it is

Bundle CoW Barbarossa and CoW Stalingrad


I have created a bundle so those of you who earn allready CoW Barbarossa can get the new one at a discound price (That adds to the launch discout). So make sure to get yours from the bundle. Oh, and I also added some kind of super long campaign to CoW Barbarossa (you will need to unlock it with a 11pts victory as the German at Barbarossa)

New features in CoW Stalingrad


- More display options on the map buttons - New actions for the soviet : Maskirovka and massive artillery concentration - Some new mechanisms (you will see) - And 6 scenarios (no less!) I hope you will enjoy the game! I will send later informations about "what's next", as the game is still in early access.

The Cauldrons of War - Stalingrad Store page is now open

Hello, CoW Stalingrad is progressing well, and the Steam Store page is now open. [previewyoutube=RV4M7Mp94Ow;full][/previewyoutube] Here are the contents and features: (As the game is still a work in progress some of these may change)

Scenarios


For the early release : -Fall Blau from june to november 42 -Edelweiss (centered on the Caucasus campaign alone, that will be a fast played scenario) -First fruits (the early Kharkov and Crimean May 42 operations) -A longer version of Fall Blau, from may 42 to December 42 For the final Game : -Uranus and Jupiter -Wintergewitter -Two small scale city centered Stalingrad scenarios on their own particular map

Other features and improvments


-The possibility to delegate an Army Group management to the AI -An "Axis firmness score" : if this score is too low, the Axis minor forces will be less efficient -A "Focus on Moscow" score for the Soviet : while it is too high, you may be unable to send forces South -Air superiority may now triggers some automatic strike against your oppenent during its actions -Small scale units may be supplied by horse drawn carts where the trucks can't pass -The Human wave soviet actions will only be available on some particular operations -New operations terrains types like steppe, dense woods, mountain ... -A Maskirovka effect for the soviet player who will be able to hide entire armies! -The Turcs may join the feast if the german player performs well in the Caucasus -As the operations may reach Iran, you may even see some british unit -Some new unit traits to simulate obsolete equipment or heavy siege guns And many other thinks I may have forgotten to mention. There is still a lot of work to be done, but step by step, the game is taking shape.

Cauldrons New Look

Hello, As promised, I will add to the game some of the features I am working on for Cauldrons Stalingrad. What's new : 1) Better looking maps 2) Meteo icons will now disapear when you hover an operation (for better visibility of the operations below) 3) A rework of the zooms mechanisms (you can now double click 2 times for a more progressive "zoom-in", and the max zoom have been increased) 4) The fog of War is less brutal (estimates of a unit's strengh will now be displayed instead of the "?") That's all for the moment ! What's Next ? Here is a list of the things I am currently working on for CoW-Stalingrad : (I don't know yet wich of these features will be retrofited into Cow Barbarossa...) -A better german AI -More unit traits -Some improvements in the supply actions -New actions for the units -New terrain types -Air force rework Also: I have amassed the documentation for a short Winter War 39-40 scenario with Finland, but I have no idea about when I will add it. Some news about Cauldrons of War Stalingrad

The Cauldrons of War Stalingrad sequel is progressing well, and many features i am testing on it will end up in CoW Barbarossa.
Here is a sneak peak on the Edelweiss scenario. : Edelweiss That Edelweiss campaign will be the most difficult of the game (for the german) due to insane goals. You have to pierce through strong soviet defences while the time is quickly running away and the OKW is taking your units away to support the advance toward Stalingrad. The keys of that scenario are : - Destroying as many soviet armies as you can in the steppe, before you reach the Caucasus mountains - Carefully select your goals - Adapt quickly to the many changing situations and swiching OKW priorities. I will post regularly some contents about the game until the release. Have fun !

Rostov Patch

What's new in this patch? You can now attack toward Rostov from Kharkov This is a huge change in gameplay. Rostov will be easier to take, but doing so, the Army Group South may be burdened with too many operations. As the Svir junction is accomplished, Finland HQ will be connected to southern operations You will be able to use your clever winter proofed finnish troops in some new places now. The 2nd german army is now splitable Really, i don't know why it was not the case earlier... Also in this patch : some minor text and bug fixes. Now you have no excuses for not winning as the german ! Have fun! Maestro Cinetik PS: What's next ? I am working on the Cauldrons of War sequel "Cauldrons of War-Stalingrad". This new game will include the operations from may 1942 to february 1943 Cool features i will code for that sequel will be retrofited in Cauldron of War Barbarossa if possible.

October patch

Hello there! In the last patch : -A rare but annoying bug in the soviet counter-strike in the Baltic is now corrected -Typos corrected -A cheat code system have been added Cheat codes : -They don't work on multiplayer (of course) -They can only be triggered from the map view -They can only be triggered once per session -They exist to help you explore deeper the game, more than to help you cheat Type simultaneously "C" for cheat and : -"P" to add 1 command point to each of your HQs -"T" to add 100 trucks to each of your HQs -"A" to add 10 planes to each of your HQs -"R" to recon all ennemy units (this one is unlimited) Have fun!

Cauldrons of War official release september 25th

August quality of life patch

This patch includes many awaited features :

Informations about event choices


Multiple choices events now diplay informations bubbles about the consequences of the proposed choices. You won't be clicking randomly anymore.

You can now play "windowed"


Access the windowed mode from the menu or simply by pressing the "w" key.

Soviet victory events in multiplayer


The soviet events "AN IRANIAN JOURNEY" and "INDUSTRIAL RELOCATIONS" now can lower the german score in multiplayer (making it even harder for the german to win...)

Saved Games debuged

PBEM is coming

The good news :


You wanted PBEM? well you have it now ! While i did playtest it a lot by myself, i will need your feedbacks to fine-tune it. As the game don't have servers, the files will have to be sent by email or shared on the discord. I also fixed a lot of bugs. - Murmansk operation now should display the right colors on the map - Refiting will now desactivate most of the nasty traits of your units - Some texts errors in the english translation have been corrected - Spliting voluntarily units now really cost 1 command point - The main wiki is no more hidden between other buttons (it is on the bottom right now)

The bad news :


Downloading this patch will break your saved games. I am sorry for that, but I had to do a heavy rework of the save game system to make it suitable for the PBEM. Have Fun ! Maestro Cinetik

Cauldrons of War Barbarossa is a turn-based strategic wargame.
From June 1941 until the Battle of Moscow, play the USSR or the Axis forces in one of the largest and bloodiest operations in history.

That was the summary, now I want to explain to you as an author what I wanted to do with this game:


"My intention was to make a very historic Wargame which would be the ideal game to launch when you want your WWII shoot
without wanting to launch one of your usual games that last for weeks.

I was also tired of the hexagons and "regions", I wanted to test a new system based on operations.
The result is more historic, simpler and faster.

I also wanted the gameplay to be very different for the German and the Soviet,
and I think you will see by playing that each side has its own particular feeling.

What I can promise you is that you have never played a wargame like this before and that like playtesters,
 you'll want to come back to it often.
