With the 1.1.4.0 patch starting power was changed to 100. While the intention was to keep every bonuses acquired during the match the same, unfortunately item bonus to attack damage was overlooked. That resulted in severe damage reduction for attack damage heroes. With this minor balance patch the goal is to pull attack damage heroes back to their previous level.

Patch 1.1.4.0 brings more experimental gameplay and balance changes and minor bug fixes.

Gameplay

General

• Starting power adjustments:
  • Starting power for all heroes reduced by 23%: 130->100.
  • Starting damage of all NPCs (lane creeps, neutrals, bosses) reduced by 23%.
  • Starting health for all units (heroes and NPCs) reduced by 23%.
  • First tower health and damage reduced by 23%. Other buildings damage and health reduced by the same amount as first tower.
  This is the biggest change of the patch. While the main focus of the change is to make power more intuitive as a mechanic, we also expect the change to make health, health regeneration and mitigation items to become stronger while resistance will become weaker at the same time.
• Generators: transferred some shield to health, shield to total health ratio: 19%->16%. While adjustment made to generator's shield was a change in right direction, the step was too big. While we were aiming to decrease efficiency of dealing slowly destroying generator by small damage each wave, we don't want to make single blow push the only option to destroy it.

Heroes

• Aemon
  • Concentration (Q):
    • Cooldown: 18/16/14/12s->12/10/8/6s;
    • Base damage: 10/20/30/40->20/30/40/50.
  • Hope (W):
    • Now reduces stun and slow duration by 25%/30%/35%/40%;
    • Base heal: 7/12/17/22->10/15/20/25;
    • Duration: 1.5s->2s.
  • Courage (E):
    • Duration: 1s->1.5s.
  • Justice (R):
    • Cooldown: 10/8/6s->16/14/12s;
    • Base Damage: 75/100/125->100/125/150;
    • Base Returned Damage: 15/25/35->20/35/50.
  With the changes above we hope it will be more rewarding for Aemon players to stick consecrated land, while not making him weak immediately once he leaves it.
• Malph
  • Healing Rations (W):
    • Total heal value reduced: 140,180,220,260->100,135,170,205;
    • Resistance: 20,30,40,50->15,20,25,30.
  • The Underground (R):
    • Mole Holes are concealed for enemies until they stay next to it for 1 second.
  Malph's W was one of the most absurd abilities in the game, giving incredible amount of health (in comparison to other abilities) and granting even more absurd amount of resistance on top of it. However it felt unfair to take something from the hero without giving something in return. Enhancing Malph's core mechanic was our choice to achieve that.

Items

• Giant's Visage
  • Power gain multiplier increased for base item (0.9%->1%) and enchantment (1%->1.1%).
  The change is part of Starting Power adjustment change.
• Healing Rod
  • Base item base heal: 100->130.
  • Enchantments reworked:
    • All enchantment additional gold 0.
    • Utility: Also gives target 50 Mana. Cooldown increased by 15 seconds;
    • Focus: Increases Base Heal by 30 Health, but range is decreased by 100;
    • Generosity: Decreases Base Heal to 100 Health but also heals allies in 600 radius around target.
  First of all basic item definitely required some love and therefore the base heal value was increased. However this was the item we decided to test our approach to enchantments: to focus on giving some benefit in exchange of some other property. Enchantments as a system currently is a pay2win/play2win mechanic, that was mostly designed to encourage gem purchase and giving advantage to players with many matches under their belt. With the new approach we hope to both make the game less punishing for new players while giving experienced players more variety.
• Inertia Boots
  • Movespeed bonus: 55->65.
  Melee heroes (who mostly by Inertia Boots) it should be able to get in touch with ranged heroes. And while CC-break is still considered one of the strongest mechanics in the game, it was incorrect choice to harm movement speed.
• Vampiric Dagger
  • Thirst enchantment: gold cost changed to 0, but no longer grants resistance.
  The Thirst enchantment is the best effect in the game, which alone was able to turn tide of battle. However we decided not to adjust the effect, but take away another item's benefit in exchange, following new approach to enchantments.

Pets

• Tortus
  • Rejuvenate (Active):
    • Now restores 15% of Max Health.
  • Harden (Triggered):
    • Now reduces damage from basic attacks by 50% for 2 seconds.
    • Cooldown: 13-7s->12s.
  Our last change to Tortus proved how hard it is to balance ability with static values in Strife: we made Tortus extremely hard to deal in early game, but it was still not a big deal in late game. And since every other pet scales with power or is %-based we did the same with Tortus for consistency. We still will monitor and expect to adjust the value slightly one way or another, but we are confident that is the correct way to make him impactful but not overpower through the whole match.

Bug Fixes

• Malph's The Underground (R) now have proper limit on Mole Holes as intended.
• Aemon's Consecration (Q) and Justice (R) no longer deal damage to neutrals in opponent Aemon's consecrated area.
• Captain's Crest now reduces damage minions receive from all structures correctly, not just the first tower.
• Magic Lifesteal now works properly with Trace's Bomb Toss (W).
• Values of attack damage bonus in tooltip for Blazer's Overcharge (E) and Vermillion's Dead Eye (E) now scale with power.
• Damage % increase in Rip's Dark Empowerment (E) tooltip is no longer colored orange.
• Fixed link to Newbie Checklist on main screen.
• Black and Guardian colors of Rook's Dawnbringer skins are now shown correctly in preview.

For patch 1.1.3.0 we focused on improvements for Captain's mode, bringing back Scrim matchmaking mode and fixing bugs.

Gameplay

• Eye of Tempra: cooldown increased: 45 90s. Eye of Tempra is one of the best items in the game (if not the best), allowing players both to engage and disengage a fight with no counter to it. Its low cooldown (with combination of cooldown reduction it granted) allowed using it carelessly with no risk of missing it in the right moment or even twice during a single teamfight. With its cooldown now increased, missing an opportunity to use Eye of Tempra will carry greater consequences, while properly timing and positioning the item remains just as impactful as before.

Bug fixes

Captain's mode

• Captain is assigned correctly now in the custom game lobby.
• Fixed right-click menu for hosts to work properly in custom lobby.
• Switching to spectator slot in custom lobby works properly now.
• Adjusted UI to make it more clear, when captain is able to choose heroes.
• Adjusted UI to make it clear for spectator which team picked a hero.

Scrim mode

• Enabled again.
• After accepting Scrim mode game now both teams will be added to captain's mode lobby instead of diving into a match right away with no time to prepare.
• Scrim lobby will be disbanded if any player leaves the match.

While Captain's mode and Scrim mode should be working properly now, they are still a work in progress. Expect more updates on UI, QoL features and changes to format in future.

Heroes, pets and items.

• Buford
  • Fire Slug (W): ability no longer triggers tower and minion aggression when an enemy hero steps into fire, but triggers it if projectile creating fire hits an enemy hero. This aligns with behavior of other similar abilities.
• Harrower
  • Predator Strike (Q): now properly grants bonus damage after leaping around walls.
  • Grendlefang (R): While in beast form first use of ability now properly switches Harrower to human form after using Razer's Into the Shadows (Active).
• Malph
  • Tunnel Bomb (Q): now triggers tower and minion aggression when dealing damage to heroes.
  • Mud Field (E): fixed missing headlines in level breakdown in tooltip.
  • The Underground (R): now tooltip displays maximum number of holes on each level.
  • Is no longer able to use Retreat (H) while underground.
  • Russian translation added.
• Midknight
  • Absorb (E): no longer triggers on debuffs that are not slows or stuns (e.g. Harrower's Feast on Wounds (E)).

  • Roll Out (W): move speed bonus is now shown in level breakdown menu and no longer colored orange (which usually means parameters scaling with power).

Patch 1.1.2.0 brings more experimental balance and gameplay changes along side with minor bug fixes.

Gameplay

General

• Resistance no longer grants stun and slow duration reduction. This is our first step on solving the issue of Resistance being way too effective. Before we start changing resistance number granted by items we decided to see how much impact does less intuitive part of Resistance make to effectiveness of resistance overall.
• Crux: Increased damage against player controlled units by 100% (back to original value). Damage against lane creeps stays the same. While we are happy with how the change to Crux's damage affected one-sided games, unfortunately more balanced games we not unaltered. We hope that taking the best from both worlds will result to less frustrating games in both extreme cases.
• Generators
  • Maximum health: 9000->8000.
  • Maximum shield: 1500->2500.
  Generators feel extremely vulnerable to small attacks. It is very trivial to break through generator's shield, deal it some permanent damage and get away while enemy team is busy defending other lane. This makes defending team stuck on base afraid of generator's health being slowly drained by pushing team. At the same time generators are completely fine as they are when we consider how much time it takes to take it down in a single attack after a team fight or along side with Krytos. Therefore we transferred some health to shields to solve the first case while making no effect in the second case.

Heroes

• Buford
  • Poison Slug (Q): Instead of increasing basic attack damage by 10/15/20/25 now increase basic attack damage by 6/8/10/12%.
  Early game damage done by Buford's basic attacks increased by Poison Slug was way higher than any other bonus damage ability in the game. This resulted into Buford bullying enemies away from lane under enemy tower just simply because nobody was able to fight back. While this change will decrease Buford's damage output early game, switching to percentage bonus should scale better into late game.
• Pal
  • Roll Out (W): Pal now longer is slowed by incoming damage.
  This ability is far away from being strong on its own. And once enemy gets Inferno Brand it actually hurts Pal using the ability at all.

Pets

• Fitz
  • Bounty (reaction): Bonus Gold reward for hero kills: 130->110. Ability cooldown: 40s->55s.
  One of the changes from unreleased Strife patch. Fitz's bounty increased player's income too much, making him a valuable pet even player stay passive.
• Tortus
  • Harden (reaction): Instead of of blocking 36-106 damage once per 12 seconds now blocks 50-150 damage once per 13-6 seconds (damage block and cooldown improve with level ups).
  Tortus always felt underwhelming. Especially its Harden ability barely had any impact on the game. We hope that with the change Tortus will be more viable through the game, while not too strong in early game phase.
• Pincer
  • Breakout (active): cooldown 100->120 seconds.
  Pincer is the best pet: universal and with no mediocre abilities. As part of a CC-break rebalance this change we expect to bring him up to level of other pets.

Items

• Inertia Boots
  • Cooldown: 50s->60s;
  • Max health: 300->250;
  • Movement speed bonus: 65->55.
  CC-break is incredible feature by itself, so it felt unfair that Inertia boots grants great (compared to other boots) movement speed. Also we expect that the change will make next item in the list more attractive to players.
• Oracle's Trinket
  • Recipe cost 1125->925;
  • No longer provides resistance;
  • Grants 5 Attack Damage instead (scales with power).
  Oracle's trinket was almost never used, mostly because Inertia Boots and Pincer outshine it. With making both alternatives weaker and making the item more attractive (especially for basic attack damage dealers) we expect to see the item more often.
• Stone Skin
  • Now grants 30% stun/slow duration reduction for its duration.
  This change simply restores the stun and slow duration reduction from resistance, that no longer grants it. The effect will approximately the same as it was with resistance CC reduction.
• Fell Blade
  • Now also grants 5% bonus movements speed while out of combat.
  Fel Blade is supposed to be alternative to Throwing Axe for gankers. So we decided to add additional bonus effect that would be attractive for roaming to other lanes.

Quality of life

• "/ping" command now available for players.
• Penalties for leaving the game were restored to original values.

Bug fixes

• Functionality for most of achievements was restored. Note: if you already have some progress with achievements of "Win 10 games as..." those won't update until you get the same number of wins in your account stats.
• Fixed tooltips on scoreboard in new UI.
• Restored end game screens.
• Fixed weird numbers in Jin She's Everthirst Flame (Q) tooltip.
• Pal now gets disarmed while using Roll Out (W), but will not stop right in front of enemy without getting closer for impact.
• Fixed a typo in Arcane Emblem of Focus tooltip.
• Daily spin: No longer visual effects are cropped. Also some minor adjustments to sound effects and animations.

New update for Strife brings technical improvements, bug fixes and experimental gameplay changes.

Gameplay

• Damage of each Crux's weapon reduced by 50%. We expect this change to make one-sided games end faster, while not affecting matches with evenly matched teams. This is our first experimental change, that is result of discussions on our Discord. Experimental balance and gameplay changes are expected to be tweaked or even reverted based on player feedback. Expect more experimental changes like this in future patches.

Quality of life

• Windows: If either DirectX 9 or DirectX 11 renderer fails to start, game will try to launch the other renderer instead of crashing immediately. This should solve error "CreateDevice() failed" when trying to launch game on Windows for most players.
• Button for opening item builds menu in-game was renamed to "Builds". This should make its purpose more obvious for new players.

Bug fixes:

• Scoreboard:
  • Now available for Legacy UI.
  • Hero tooltips now shos correct information instead of Ace icon and question marks.
  • Player name no longer disappear when their hero is dead.

Clubs have been added to Strife. Use the community tools associated with clubs to identify your account with a group. Clubs allow for text & voice chat and a meeting place to build parties, teams, and bolster social interactions within the Strife playerbase.

• Roll Out (W):
  • Activate to transform, granting increasing movespeed at the cost of reduced turning.
  • If you contact an enemy, deals 80/100/120/140 Magic Damage and stuns them for 1.3 seconds.
  • Taking damage slows down your movement.

• Infernal Core (E):
  • Activate to begin dealing 25/30/35/40 Magic Damage/sec to nearby enemies.

  • By right-clicking a Mole Hole, you will channel for 1.4 seconds - entering the underground upon completion.

After serving as the founder and leader of the Order of the Golden Crescent for many years, he has decided to enter the Trials of Strife to face his enemies directly and spread the truth about the divine power of the Astoran Plane. Consecration (Q): Consecrate an area. The area will grant vision and remain consecrated until Aemon travels too far away. Passive: Aemon’s attacks deal damage to enemies within Consecration. Hope (W): Aemon gains a powerful resistance buff for a short duration. Passive: Aemon’s attacks heal ally heroes within Consecration. Courage (E): Aemon gains a burst of movespeed. If activated within consecration, the duration extends to 3 seconds. Upon activation, Aemon’s next three attacks slow the target. Justice (R): Aemon calls down a pillar of light on him and on his Consecration, dealing damage to enemies. Passive: Aemon’s attacks grant a charge of Justice. Patch 1.0.4

Patch 1.0.4 brings us the most radical wave riding Heroes of Strife, Eanu along with an awesome new Jin She gearset Iron Claw JinShe, some dyes for Bandit.0, Iah and Rip and several balance/gameplay changes. Make sure you check out your surfing skills with Eanu!

==Gameplay Changes==

Hero Kills Killing heroes through ganking has become less rewarding since the introduction of larger creep waves, so we wanted to bring back the incentive. Hero kill bounty increased from 250-500 (capped at lvl 11) to 300-650 (no lvl cap). Disconnects Disconnected players gold is shared among their team after 1:30 instead of 2:00. Leaver Penalties We heard the complaints about rating loss with leavers and have made it more beneficial for everyone who stays. Leavers on a Winning team no longer gain rating, their rating boost is divided to the remaining players. Leavers on a Losing team lose the same rating as before, but rating lost by the remaining players is reduced (by 50% for 1 leaver and by 100% for 2 or more leavers).

==New Hero==

Eanu

Eanu is a water elemental from the Forgotten Kingdom, a society deep beneath the frozen surface of the icy side of Tempra. As the champion of the Forgotten Kingdom, he is confident that he will be the greatest hero in the Trials of Strife. Trident Charge (Q): Charge Eanu's trident up to 3 times, causing his next attack to deal bonus damage and apply a tapering slow (per charge) and also gain 100 range. When used on a Wet target, the bonus damage will splash units in a small radius. Geyser (W): Target location to emit a geyser from Eanu's chest piece, dealing damage and pushing enemies away. Enemies hit by Geyser become Wet for 5 seconds. Tidal Flow (E): Eanu channels the tide Inward and Outward, alternating each cast. Inward Tide restores Mana and grants Resistance. Outward Tide reduces nearby enemy’s Resistance significantly. Enemies hit by Outward Tide become Wet for 5 seconds. Breaking Wave (R): Target location to ride a massive wave, dealing damage and stunning all enemies hit by the crashing wave. Enemies touched by Breaking Wave become Wet for 5 seconds.

Towers/Generators/Crux We’re liking the increased pacing of the game resulting from spells hitting towers. Now we’ll look to reduce some of the cheesy stuff. Backdooring is definitely a strategy we try to keep from becoming too strong, so we’ll ask you to bring a creep wave or stand in the line of fire yourself if you want to nuke towers. -All buildings have 300 resistance unless enemy units are within tower attack range. Buford Exploding slugs gave Buford another powerful tool to add to his arsenal, but we think he needs toned down a bit. -Poison Slug - Explosion damage reduced from 100/150/200/300 to 100/140/180/220. -Poison Slug - CD increased by 3 seconds and damage reduced on ammo by 5. -Fire Slug - Deals 50% damage to towers. -The Buford Special - Reveals enemy targets. Chester Any ability that you set and forget was too powerful against towers. -Knight Blitz - Deals 50% damage to towers. Iah Any ability that you set and forget was too powerful against towers. -Quickpit - Deals 50% damage to towers. Malady Any ability that you set and forget was too powerful against towers. Unstable Shard This item is creating a lot of fun and crazy new interactions. One of those was to combo an invulnerability ability or item to escape the damage at the end of the buff. The intent of Unstable Shard is to be high risk and high reward, so we’re going to try making the risk more consistent. Also, CDR made this item usable way too often, so thats no longer the case. -Unstable Shard will deal its damage at end of any ongoing invulnerability states. -Effective base cooldowns increased to 60 seconds, which starts AFTER the effect expires.

Patch 1.0 introduces the ability to hit towers with spells, Rip, the stealthy swordsman from Gael, along with a new pet Zen, three incredibly powerful new items, balance changes and bug fixes. Be sure to test your skills with Rip and see how the new items affect the game!

==Game Mechanics==

Towers Towers now take damage from abilities. (We felt that abilities flying through towers didn’t really make much sense. I mean...why would a rocket hit a floating cat, but not a tower? This change should increase the pace of the game and give more fun interactions like Midknight being able to hook himself over to a tower.) Resistance Resistance can no longer go below zero. (We’re pretty happy with how easy it is to kill a squishy target at 0 resistance, so we added a clamp.)

==New Hero==

Rip Rip, swordsman of the wastes, hails from a mysterious tribe of Elves – the Kenar-Ahdam – that eek out an existence in the ruins of Strife where they have been effectively exiled to by the other races of Gael as a result of suspicions that they are half-Dharkwave/half-Elf. Rip, second son of Mhernad, ventured forth to join in the Trials of Strife in order to win himself a place within his tribe, and his tribe a place amongst the rest of the races of the planes. Smoke Cloud (Q): Target area to create a smoke cloud, reducing enemy resistance and drastically lowering their vision. While inside the cloud, Rip is stealthed until you deal damage or use an ability. Vanish (W): Target area to vanish for 1 second, then reappear at the target location. Upon reappearing, deal damage in the target area. Dark Empowerment (E): (Passive Skill) Every 5th attack charges your blade. Once charged, your next attack deals bonus attack damage. Avoiding enemy vision instantly charges your blade. Nether Strike (R): Target direction to dash, attacking all enemies you pass through. If you hit at least 1 enemy, you may cast this ability again for up to 6 seconds - up to a total of 3 times.

==New Pet==

Zen Wisdom (Passive): Increases mana regeneration. (scales with hero level) Revitalize (Passive-Active): Prevents going into combat for 5 seconds when out of combat. Knowledge (Active): Target a position to send Zen flying over it revealing the area for 8 seconds.

==New Items==

Eye Of Tempra (5665) 10% Cooldown Reduction 10 Mana/sec. Activate: Cast a frozen sphere at target location. Everything that is hit by or touches the sphere is frozen and unable to take damage. This includes everything except for Baldir, Cindara and Krytos. Sundering +250 - Cast immediately at your location, radius increased. Dark Bargain (6035) +25 Attack Damage Activate: Spend 400 gold to gain +25 Attack Damage for 8 seconds. No cooldown. Can be stacked. After the 8 seconds, you retain 5 attack damage permanently for each stack. Diligence +500 - Increased duration by 2 seconds. Restraint +0 - Spend 250 to gain +15 Attack Damage, but no permanent damage. Unstable Shard (5665) Each kill/assist grants a 15% reduction of current cooldowns. Activate: Instantly regenerate 1000 mana and gain 500 additional max mana and 75% cd reduction for 9 seconds. On expiration, you take 1500 pure damage and deal 250 damage to nearby enemies. Greed +1000 - Increased to 90% cd reduction, self damage increased by 750 Wisdom +750 - Refreshes all abilities on activation, and you will die no matter what. Immortal Gaze (REWORK) Grants 20% additional Max Health. Passive-Active: Upon death, you will be revived with 15% Health and Mana. 180 second CD.

Buford Fire Slug - Now ignites and explodes Poison Cloud dealing massive damage. Fire Slug - Damage now scales with Power. Chester Mimic - Can now be cast on ally heroes. Very tricky! Flak Fixed an issue where EMP Cannon could not be purged. Iah Sand Elemental - Maximum number of elementals per level increased from 2 to 2, 3, 4, 5. Lady Tinder Stonebark Shield - No longer usable on creeps. Midknight Hookshot - Range increased by 25 and hit radius increased by 20. Chains of Judgement - Now applies a 20% slow to all enemies who are chained. Absorb - Now properly removes the slows from Bo Throw and EMP Cannon. Trace Boomerang - Range increased by 50 and mana cost reduced by 10. Vex Anti-Matter Shield - No longer usable on creeps.

Luster Blast - Reduced range by 25 to avoid missing Cindara and Baldir and wasting the ability.

Protection Enchant (400) - Cleanses all allies in a 500 radius. Spirit Ward Now grants a shield 40% of your Max Mana for 6 seconds. Down from 50% for 8 seconds. Titanslayer Reduced recipe costs by 450. Marksmanship Enchant (350) - Increases range by 30. Woundsplitter Attack damage now updating with power in tooltip.

Patch 0.9.16 introduces us to Buford, the slug shooting swamp creature from Lyrie, along with balance changes and attack timing tweaks to make Strife even more fun no matter which hero you play. Utilize Buford’s ever changing fighting style to win no matter what situation you might find yourself in!

==New Hero==

Buford Buford is an amphibious swamp creature from the backwoods of Lyrie. His interests include trappin’ critters, defending his property, befriending bugs, and polishing his shotgun. Normally content to spend his time in the bayou, Buford has set off to defend the freedom of Lyrie in the interplanar struggle that is the Trials of Strife. Poison Slug (Q): Target location to launch a poison slug the upon impact creates a cloud of toxic fumes. Fumes slow all enemies and reduce their resistance. Buford now fires Toxic Ammo that cause his attacks to deal bonus damage. Only one Ammo type can be active. Fire Slug (W): Target location to fire blazing fast fire slugs that create a trail of fire. Enemies take moderate damage per second while in the fire. Buford now fires Flame Ammo that cause his attacks to deal splash damage. Only one Ammo type can be active. Leech (E): Buford throws leeches at target location, which attach to the closest enemy, stealing health in 3 waves. Buford now fires Leech Ammo that cause his attacks to lifesteal. Only one Ammo type can be active. The Buford Special (R): Target enemy to launch a cage, dealing a small % of the target's max health and trapping the enemy for several seconds. The cage has health equal to 1/3 of Buford's and can be attacked by anyone.

==Hero Balance Changes==

Chester -Auto attack speed increased by 100 ms. Bastion -The Chosen One (R): Damage reduced from 200,260,320 to 180,240,300. -The Chosen One (R): Radius increased by 50. -The Chosen One (R): Attack Damage increased from 30,40,50 to 40,50,60. Still spawn in increments of 3. Observatories -Active duration increased from 35 seconds to 70 seconds. Division Rating -Division cut-offs recalculated based on current active players. Tutorial -Fixed Caprice tutorial crash bug.

Ace -Avalanche now has slightly lower range, speed and AOE. Chester -Knight Blitz cooldown increased by 1 second. -King Me! expires on death. Minerva -Fixed starting resistance. Shank -Ground Pound visual radius tweaked to match ability radius. Zaku -Sticky Trap activates faster.
