Hello! I just released a patch with some gameplay fixes and two great features.
Hello! This new update focuses on players quality of life with some screen interractions reworked. Also: Korean language has also been added to the game, thanks to the community. Wh'os Who windows The who's who window is now more practical, and will display more informations. You can now manage more things from the who's who, like recruiting characters or delegating them to the AI. A faction tooltip has been added, and you can jump directly on that faction's diplomatic screen by clicking on the faction icon. Once a character has been selected in teh who's who, it is now easy to inspect all other characters from that faction, thanks to the side arrows I added. Diplomacy and government panel The navigation has been simplified, and factions tooltips added everywhere. Districts management screen Hovering the faction flag will now display a tooltip, so you don't have to click teh flag to get more informations. Army screen I added the same faction tooltip as everywhere, and you can now jump right into a unit faction's window by clicking on the unit icon. Province screen (that's the screen you access from the left button on the map view) I added more informations on characters, like the origine province and if they are southerners or northerners. End turn reports The end turn reports panel will now automatically pop up at each new turn. That festures has been requested several times, and now you have it! If like me, it annoys you, you can simply descativate that feature from the options menu. I hope this update will make things more simple for new players not familar with the warlord era. Have fun! PS: If you want to see what I am working on these days, there is a demo available containing 6 scenarios. It is a strategy game about the cold war, much more easy to play than Rise of the White Sun. The demo can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3361850/Maestros_Cold_War_2_Demo/
Hello, As you now, I am working on next DLC, and I am doing some invisible heavy work (like making the game's resources lighter to support all the new content). But I am also adding some new small but awaitd features: You can now set the level of banditry to "low" That feature is in playtest, so it is only on Windows builds for the moment. If everybody likes it, I will keep it and extend it to Linux and Mac. To set the Banditry level to low, just push the button in the scenario selection screen. Beware the impact may be well beyond just the bandit activity: for exemple, the AI loves recruiting new armies directly from bandits. So less bandits may sometimes make the game easier (or more difficult, depending upon your playstyle) Tell me if you like it and have fun! Maestro Cinetik Post scriptum 1: Have you tested the demo for my next game? They already are 3 playable scenarios in it! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3361850/Maestros_Cold_War_2_Demo/ (this game is about the Cold War, and is much more simple than Rise of the White Sun, and it plays faster) Post scriptum 2: I made the first scenario of the next DLC appear in the scenario list so you can have an idea about what it will be.
As I progress in the development of the 1929-1933 DLC, I can share with you some screenshots and informations.
The First scenario of the DLC will cover 1929-1930, and will be called "Taming the tigers"
January 1929,
The victory of the Guomindang (GMD) in the Northern Expedition was supposed to bring an end to warlordism in China.
But has it really?
As discussions on general disarmament continue, many regional factions within the victorious coalition grow increasingly wary of Jiang Jieshi's expanding power.
The Guomindang strongman is now relying more heavily on a close-knit circle of supporters from Zhejiang and Jiangsu.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party is swiftly reorganizing. Though its strongholds remain scattered, they are steadily growing in influence...
It will play on the whole map (save Mongolia), and feature more than 50 new characters.
Some major Characters will have evolved and gained new traits and a new portrait.
Feel free to ask me any questions you have about that dlc, I will answer with pleasure.
Have fun!
Maestro Cinetik
PS: What else?
Last Windows patch
That patch fix some minor issues, including triggering conditions for the new achievements.
Linux and Mac build will follow later
Hello there! Here is the October content patch. In it: -A new 1923 sandbox scenario -Zhili AI improved in the 1920 scenario -UI reworkd for 1280-800 px and 1280-700px Resolutions -A famous spy gained the new badass portrait he deserved -Last week save bug is fixed I also reorganized the scenarios to make room for new ones in the future. On this occasion, a small Guangxi scenario made its return in the tutorial section. I also added 7 new achievements. Some scenarios may seem daunting (like having all of China under your control or that of your allies), but remember, a skilled diplomat is all it takes to secure allies across the country. Diplomats are the most underutilized yet powerful role in the game. 1929-1933 DLC ETA No release date yet, but heres my progress so far: The characters and factions have been defined for the first large scenario of the DLC. Expect over 50 new characters in this scenario alone. It will be titled 'Taming the Tigers,' covering events from January 1929 to the end of the Central Plains War. The Communist faction will use the same group system as in the 1927 scenario, with groups in Hubei, Shaanxi, Guangxi, Jiangxi, and more. Expect significantly more officer characters for this faction. I am currently working on the map and army data for the scenario's start. After that, I will write the introductory texts, victory conditions, and AI. Then Ill focus on the dialogues and events. Once all of this is complete, I will begin playtesting and shift my attention to the second giant DLC scenario, which will focus on the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. From now on, expect fewer updates until the DLC release, though Ill share regular news on development progress. Have Fun!
Hello everyone, I was planning to share some exciting news about new content, but instead, I regret to inform you of the less exciting news below. Some of you have encountered a very annoying bug that affects the save files. Heres the good news: -The bug was easy to fix. -Your old save files will work again, and you will be able to finish your current game. However, heres the bad news: -Im unable to update the game at the moment (so your saves will stay broken) -It has been three days now. -The issue is on Steams end, and I can't say when it will be resolved. Unfortunately, I have not received any response from their support team, and I dont know if anyone at Steam is actively working on the support ticket I submitted. I will keep you updated as soon as I have more information. Thank you for your understanding. Maestro Cinetik
As you may know, I am working on an exciting 1929-1933 DLC. While it is quite a heavy workload, I wont keep you waiting too long for new contentI will ship smaller updates like this one from time to time!
You now have a minimap of China. You can display it or hide it, change its side, drag it where you want it, etc... It is clickable to open provinces map. Navigating between provinces has never been so easy! As for all my summer patches, it is for windows only. Linux and Mac versions will have to wait for September to be updated. Have a nice summer! Maestro Cinetik
This is summer time, and I am both far from my historical documentation and working on my next project. Therefore, I will take this occasion to ship only small updates to fix minor issues, instead of more content. These summer patches are for Windows only; Mac and Linux users will have to wait until September. In today's patch: * I reworked the Zhili clique AI for better defense of the Beijing Area. * I changed the cost of the new relief actions (those that cost 4 QI now only cost 3). * I fixed the behavior of the "escape" key, taking into account players' feedback. If you were wondering about my next project, you can play its free browser draft here. I am actually remaking that Cold War game for PC. The aim is not only to make a more polished version but also to create a highly moddable game. Have a nice summer!
The changes in that patch only apply to Windows.
If players like them, Mac OS and Linux will receive them too.
Did you know that the game's author was color-blind?
One might have guessed it given the audacious color choices in the game's UI.
Well... I finally acknowledged that this needed a rework.
The game now has sober colors.
But don't worry, you can still revert to the original UI by selecting the option "Make my eyes bleed!" in the options menu.
I took the opportunity of that patch to add a long-requested feature: the ability to search for a character by name in the Who's Who menu (the one you use to display lists of characters).
That's all for today.

The latest patch includes:
Hello! I have been frantically patching the game recently to improve the quality of life, add new features, and release a free DLC. I hope you will be as satisfied with the result as I am!
You may have noticed that the game now has some few achievements. This is only the begining, as I am testing the feature. There will be much more achievements (and they will be translated into Chinese) Stay tuned, more informations about what is next will come soon. Maestro Cinetik Maestro Cinetik
Dear players, I am pleased to announce a fantastic new update! Playtesters were highly satisfied with it, so I believe you will love it too! The main contents of this update are:
Hello, The work on the 1923 scenario is progressing smoothly, and I am correcting bugs and adding features along the way. When I have cool stuff that can be published before the next content patch, I will release small updates like this one. Today's update only applies to the Windows version. Versions for Linux and Mac will follow later.
Rise of the White Sun will participate in the Turn-Based Fest, and it's truly an honor. On this occasion, I've updated the game to reflect the latest advancements in the Simplified Chinese Community Translation. All materials in the game, up to the year 1927, should now be accurately translated. This amounts to approximately 90% of the game's content being translated by the community. I cannot thank them enough for their patient and diligent efforts. Some minor, albeit rare, bugs have also been addressed in the latest patch, though none were significant enough to warrant a detailed discussion here.
Hello, I'm seizing the opportunity presented by this patch announcement to seek your input on the game's future content. Please spare a moment to cast your vote for the upcoming content here https://strawpoll.com/3RnYl59Yxye What's new this week? This content patch is currently available for the Windows version only. Versions for Linux and Mac will be released at a later date. Minor bugs: -n the 1925 scenarios, an issue where the Comintern Compound's "Propaganda Department" action inadvertently removed the option to undertake the "Military Committee" action has been resolved. -The issue of disappearing refugees in Xinjiang upon loading a saved game has been fixed (applies only to new saves made from this point forward). Typos and proofreading: -The poorly written English texts and typos identified in the Steam forums have been addressed. Content: -Two characters, Dai Kemin and Pan Zhongru, have been added to the Hubei CCP faction in 1927, as requested by a player. Currently, they are represented with default portraits, but I have commissioned the artist to create historical portraits. -The "split army" action has been slightly nerfed, and a quick action button for this action has been introduced. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik
In this week's update: *Some English texts in the battle reports have been corrected. *Minor inaccuracies have been addressed in some characters' histories (for example, Xiong Kewu is now correctly associated with the right province). *The issue where the peasant school unit from the Guangdong Provincial Committee disappeared after loading a saved game has been fixed (this fix will only apply to saves created after this patch). Additionally: A New Action to Split Your Units You will find this option in the organization section of your armies' action panel. This action can only be conducted by officers and the Generalissimo and incurs a cost (3Q1, 25 Fame, and 15 Supporters). You may also encounter loyalty issues. Enjoy! Maestro Cinetik
In this new content update: The 1925 Sandbox and the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenarios have been extended to cover whole China (save Mongolia). The Yunnan and Guominjun factions now have more characters in 1925. The 1925 sandbox scenario has been extended and now covers more than 400 turns. That was few words but a lot of content! Next update will certainly be some more content and fine-tuning for the 1925 scenario. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik
Hello! A weekly update packed with numerous small yet significant improvements:
Hello there! This week's patch is small yet significant.
Some fixes, balance and new content for the week
Hello there! I hope you are enjoying the latest significant content update. This patch is relatively small, focused on fixing various issues. Please read below for the list of changes.
Hello! A new big update full of content is now online!
It's incredible how quickly time passes when you're working hard on a game! A player recently informed me that I haven't posted any news for over a month. So, here's a preview of my current work. A significant content and quality of life update is in progress. I've included some images below for you to take a look at. I don't have a specific ETA yet, but it's about 80% complete. What's included?
Hello!
-The map dragging feature has been overhauled, making it faster and smoother. -A new tooltip has been added to summarize all mouse interactions with characters on the bottom characters bar. -Colors have been added to locations on the city map. -- -- -- -- -- * * *
Hello! As you know, I will keep adding content to Rise of the White Sun (until you all get bored by the game^^) And you have your word to say: the poll about the next big content patch is still open here
This is a windows patch. (Linux and Mac will follow soon) *The latest texts translated by the community have been added. (some 900 new entries, but there is still a long way to go) *A new cheat code: "jackofalltrades" will give all roles to your selected character. *Small bugs have been fixed here and there -- -- -- -- -- windows Linux Mac * 900 *jackofalltrades *
Here we are! After two years of development, the major stepping stones I set for the game to exit EA are now reached: *You can now play the Northern Expedition scenario! *You can now also play on your Linux and Mac computers. I will push the publish button this evening around 6pm hour of Paris. I am sure you will have a lot of fun with the game. It offers deep and complete content, with a high replay value. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ps:
I want to thank the players who have reported bugs in the game. This helps improve the game. For example, now you can play 'Red Spears' without any worries in Chinese language. Some Shanghai uprising issues have also been corrected. I know that some of you may not have easy access to Discord. You can report bugs to the following email address: admin@gaming-at-work.com In the email, please include the following information: -Description of the error -Some instructions for reproducing the error -Archive file ('Data.dat') -Error log file ('ErrorLog.dat') You can access game files from the options menu. Bugs reported with these elements can be dealt with very easily and quickly. I will be making updates every day until September 21st. I believe the current version is quite stable and reliable. If I'm wrong, please don't hesitate to write to me! Enjoy the game!"
The bug where the characters cannot recover their energy after clicking on the next week is fixed. Thank you so much to the player who sent me his saved game.
-I fixed some bugs that I introduced yesterday. -You have now more actions to get rid of your characters -Many balance and small issues have been fixed in the Northern Expedition Scenario -Policemen characters are now more efficient to create militia units - - - -
The Northern Expedition scenario is opened to playtest for the Windows version (Mac following soon) Chinese texts further cleaned from missing characters. WindowsMac
Last Update Content: The Circular telegram has been reworked to reduce its impact on factions with which you have low relations. You now have the option to enable "dark mode" for dialogues. A bug in the Chinese version of the Mongolian scenario has been fixed. Disclaimer: Please note that this patch may potentially disrupt your saved games.
Chinese version has been debugged. You can now rename your armies Local militias may now mobilize and defend their districts against small raiding parties.
As the game is in its final stages before release, some long-awaited features are now available: Mac OS - Yes, you can now play on that infernal machine of the devil! Chinese - You can now experience the entire game in Simplified Chinese. Most of the translation has been done by the community, and the missing texts are currently being translated by a robot. Quality of Life: 1)The neighboring districts now refresh in real time. 2)Clicking on a character in your character bar will directly open the interactions panel. Game Release Date - Well, I would say it's almost finished now, and I am proud of how far it has come. You won't recognize that rough, unpolished game it was when it first launched in early access. I genuinely want to thank all the players who have been with me throughout, playtesting and providing feedback. Steam data confirms that an increasing number of players are accumulating really long total play times. This is a strong indication that the game offers a rich experience.
Hello, As you know, I am working on the Northern Expedition scenario. That includes many new mechanisms, including the Wuhan government and adapting the Shanghai uprising into regular campaigns. To playtest this new content, I created a 1925 Sandbox scenario. I also added the possibility to extend the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario if ever you obtain a minor victory. In both the 1925 Sandbox scenario and the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario, you should have more events now. It was very difficult to finish the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario as the Communist faction, because Guangzhou was often stormed by Chen Jiongming's armies. That should not happen anymore: the Guomindang AI has been reworked and now it rocks! (Playing as Chen Jiongming should be more challenging now) You may spot small improvements here and there. For exemple, I've debugged the Chinese version, but a lot of the text is still awaiting to be translated. Now I am waiting for the feedbacks and playtests to improve the Sandbox and the futur Northern Expedition scenario. Question: What is the Quality of Life improvement you need to see in the game? It may end-up in the next content patch. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik
Hello, I have been shipping a serie of small but useful updates these days. Here is a summary of the new features:
Hello! The Guangdong Revolutionary Base has been extended to include all meaningful provinces for the Northern Expedition. This is only a geographical extention: the scenario still lasts 40+ turns. Next update will allow the player to extend its duration to include the Northern Expedition. Nice new content includes:
Dear Players, I am glad to bring you the latest update: These days, I have been working to address those small but pesky issues that have been causing irritation and frustration among the player community. This update is all about improving your gaming experience and making your time even more enjoyable. So without further ado, let's dive into the cool new changes you can expect:
Hello! As you may have noticed, the game now has a sandbox scenario, where one can pick the victory conditions that suits his playstyle. Here is the list of what have been reworked or added to the game in that sandbox context:
Hello, I have been adding frantickly tons of new content these last weeks, and a direct consequence has been the game growing insanely huge and heavy. That could not last. I took a moment to optimize it so you can experience it even on your older computer. Well, may be not on your 2001 Microsoft Visa computer... This week and next week, I will add every day (or every two days) some small QOL, UI/UX updates. Do not hesitate to jump into the Discord to ask for your dreamed feature: https://discord.com/invite/289Pr4g Then, I will add some Northern Expedition content. (Now that we have whole China in the game, and a grand scenario, I should be able to deliver new content fast) Have Fun! Maestro Cinetik
You have 103 turns to reform Tibet and revive the old Tibetan Empire. The 13th Dalai Lama rejected Chinese tutelage and assumed both the spiritual and political leadership of Tibet. The Tibetan forces gained a lot of ground East of Tibet, against Chinese troops abandonned by the Chinese Government. Although a fragile peace accord was eventually signed, China's persistent claims on Tibet remained unresolved, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the region. In order to safeguard Tibet from Chinese influence, the Dalai Lama sought the support of the formidable British Empire and set his sights on creating a robust military force. To fund this ambitious endeavor, he proposed implementing taxation and economic reforms.\nHowever, these reform ideas faced vehement opposition from the powerful monasteries, who viewed them as secularist and foreign-inspired. This clash of interests heightened the risk of an open rebellion against the emerging class of "modernist militarists" surrounding the Dalai Lama. Caught in the middle, a third faction composed of conservative government officials could potentially play the role of mediator in the escalating conflicts.
