Difficulty levels & new cheat codes

Hello,

The work on the 1923 scenario is progressing smoothly, and I am correcting bugs and adding features along the way. When I have cool stuff that can be published before the next content patch, I will release small updates like this one.

Today's update only applies to the Windows version. Versions for Linux and Mac will follow later.

Today's Update:

Difficulty Levels

You can now select a difficulty level when you launch a scenario. There are four difficulty levels:

Green Difficulty Level:
This is the default difficulty level. It is perfect for playing as an underdog faction or for discovering the game.

Seasoned Difficulty Level:
This difficulty level is intended to raise the challenge when you play as one of the major factions. Your opponents will be able to grow and maintain larger armies.

Elite Difficulty Level:
Not only will your opponents be able to grow and maintain larger armies, but the game will also shamelessly cheat by giving random resources each turn to characters controlled by your opponents.

Dare Death Difficulty Level:
Not only will your opponents get all the bonuses of the Elite difficulty levels, but your troops will also have a malus at their morale checks during fights.

New Cheat Codes

"endwar" will disband a unit.
"flowerpower" will send all weapons of the selected unit into your faction stockpile.
"oneguntwoarms" will send rifles from the selected unit, but will leave 1 rifle per man (if there are enough guns).

For those new to the game: just press the "c" key to open the cheat console.

Annoying Bug Fixed

You won't be able to use [enter] to trigger the action buttons anymore. That will prevent a free multiple action exploit.

I hope you will have a lot of fun playing with this update. I also need your feedback about the difficulty setting, as it certainly needs balance.

Content Poll result : what's next - Chinese Community Translation 90% complete

Rise of the White Sun will participate in the Turn-Based Fest, and it's truly an honor.

On this occasion, I've updated the game to reflect the latest advancements in the Simplified Chinese Community Translation. All materials in the game, up to the year 1927, should now be accurately translated.
This amounts to approximately 90% of the game's content being translated by the community.
I cannot thank them enough for their patient and diligent efforts.

Some minor, albeit rare, bugs have also been addressed in the latest patch, though none were significant enough to warrant a detailed discussion here.
So what's next?
You cast your votes here to decide the focus of the next content update.

The winner is:
-A 1923 scenario about the United Front
And a close second is:
-More content for the 1927 scenario

Given the tight race, I've decided to tackle both updates in the order they were voted for. Following these updates, my attention will likely turn towards improving the game's manual or enhancing the wiki.

I'm excited to share that the 1923 scenario will encompass all of China except Mongolia, introduce more than 30 factions, and feature many new characters.
The GMD, the Chinese Communist Party, and the Fengtian Clique will be the primary factions, enriched with their own events and dialogues.

The GMD's challenges will include:
-Forming a United Front with the CCP, securing aid from the USSR, and transforming the Party and its Army.
-Establishing a new government in Guangzhou after once again ousting Chen Jiongming and setting the groundwork for the future.
-Navigating relationships with its unpredictable allies.

The Chinese Communist Party's challenges will involve:
-Organizing strikes and unions along the Beijing-Hankou railway.
-Joining the United Front.
-Expanding their influence in Guangdong.

The Fengtian Clique's challenges will focus on:
-Modernizing the Army.
-Enhancing their supply and industrial capabilities.
-Seeking revenge on the Zhili Clique.

The additional content for 1927 will revolve around new strategies to establish Red Bases, following the VIth Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. Given the Communist faction's lack of statesman characters, these new actions will offer opportunities to develop districts with peasant leaders and political workers. We'll also likely introduce more upgrades for the Communist armies and militias.

Enjoy!

First March patch notes and poll about next content patch

Hello,

I'm seizing the opportunity presented by this patch announcement to seek your input on the game's future content. Please spare a moment to cast your vote for the upcoming content here
https://strawpoll.com/3RnYl59Yxye

What's new this week?

This content patch is currently available for the Windows version only. Versions for Linux and Mac will be released at a later date.

Minor bugs:

-n the 1925 scenarios, an issue where the Comintern Compound's "Propaganda Department" action inadvertently removed the option to undertake the "Military Committee" action has been resolved.

-The issue of disappearing refugees in Xinjiang upon loading a saved game has been fixed (applies only to new saves made from this point forward).

Typos and proofreading:

-The poorly written English texts and typos identified in the Steam forums have been addressed.

Content:

-Two characters, Dai Kemin and Pan Zhongru, have been added to the Hubei CCP faction in 1927, as requested by a player. Currently, they are represented with default portraits, but I have commissioned the artist to create historical portraits.

-The "split army" action has been slightly nerfed, and a quick action button for this action has been introduced.

Have fun!

Weekly patch + a new army action

In this week's update:

*Some English texts in the battle reports have been corrected.
*Minor inaccuracies have been addressed in some characters' histories (for example, Xiong Kewu is now correctly associated with the right province).
*The issue where the peasant school unit from the Guangdong Provincial Committee disappeared after loading a saved game has been fixed (this fix will only apply to saves created after this patch).

Additionally:

A New Action to Split Your Units

You will find this option in the organization section of your armies' action panel.

This action can only be conducted by officers and the Generalissimo and incurs a cost (3Q1, 25 Fame, and 15 Supporters). You may also encounter loyalty issues.

Enjoy!

1925 Content Update

In this new content update:

The 1925 Sandbox and the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenarios have been extended to cover whole China (save Mongolia).

The Yunnan and Guominjun factions now have more characters in 1925.

The 1925 sandbox scenario has been extended and now covers more than 400 turns.

That was few words but a lot of content!

Next update will certainly be some more content and fine-tuning for the 1925 scenario.

Have fun!

First February weekly patch

Hello!

A weekly update packed with numerous small yet significant improvements:
Annoying Bug of Armies Going Out of the Map
This bug has finally been fixed!
The bizarre effect of armies flying off to the moon should no longer occur.
AI reworked
I have begun reworking the AIs for the 1920 scenarios.
Yunnan and Shanxi have received the most extensive reworks, with the Zhili Clique undergoing a minor rework.
Smaller warlords should now also be slightly more cautious.
I will continue to enhance the AIs for this scenario.
Please let me know which factions you would like me to rework next.
Music pack
The new music tracks have been compiled into an original soundtrack album. You can access it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2810180/Rise_Of_The_White_Sun_Soundtrack/
Yunnan faction upgraded in the 1925 scenarios
I have added characters introduced in the last 1927 scenario to the Yunnan character pool for the 1925 scenario (Guangdong Revolutionary Base and 1925 Sandbox).
Yunnan is now a faction with great potential, possibly overpowered (it features a generalissimo and several competent statesmen characters).
"1927mao" Cheat Code Debugged
You should no longer encounter two different Maos in the same game.
More Proofread Texts
This is for the English version. Given the total volume of text, there may still be typos and awkward sentences scattered throughout.

Have fun!

New soundtracks!

Hello there!

This week's patch is small yet significant.

 • New Original Sound Tracks
 • Reworked action for hiring bandits on your side
 • Debugged the HQ panel
New Original Sound Tracks
Jrmie Frmont has composed three exceptional new pieces for the game. If you appreciate Jrmie's work, you can explore his other compositions here:https://jeremiefremont.bandcamp.com/
Reworked Action for Hiring Bandits on Your Side
Previously, unlikely outcomes were possible, such as Communists hiring White Russian Bandits. This issue has been resolved with the current patch.

Hiring bandits outside of a character's home province is now more challenging, especially if the bandit unit is strong or heavily armed. In such cases, you might need to pay extra to recruit them.

Consequently, you should now send only your most skilled negotiators to persuade bandits to join your side. Traits like being an opium or gambling addict could be advantageous in negotiations with bandit leaders.
The HQ Panel Has Been Debugged
There were some odd behaviors observed while using the HQ panel for troop management. These issues have been resolved. The HQ panel should now function seamlessly, making it an effective tool for managing large factions with multiple armies.

-- -- -- -- --

Upcoming Updates:

*Improved proofreading for the English version and more community-translated content are on the way.
*With many players now adept at the game, it's time to enhance the 1920 sandbox AI.
*I have also a pile of small bugs to fix, huge enough to qualify for bug patch alone.

That's all Folks!
Have fun!

Weekly patch

Some fixes, balance and new content for the week
Fixes
-The cost to create a union in a district is now correctly displayed on the action button.
-The failed Guangzhou Uprising event will no longer chain trigger each turn.
-Issue with (Suzhou/Soochow) being located in Anhui province has been fixed.
-Fighting Opium consumption could be done only once; this has been fixed. If it is needed again, you can do it again.
Balance
-Red Guards will no longer lose loyalty and morale between turns if they are in a district meeting the "fish in the sea" conditions.
-There will now be fewer desertions during difficult times.
New actions
I added two actions to change the Tax Collector of a district:

1) A gentry or statesman character can now attempt to take control of a district in his home province using his local political connections. This action can only be conducted in districts controlled by your faction.

2) The Nanjing Finance Minister can now gain total tax control of a district where the Opium Suppression Office has been established. This action is the culmination of a long chain of policies and will facilitate the Guomindang faction's management in long games.chain of policies, may will facilitate the Guomindang faction management in long games.
New cheat code
"themanfromJiangxi": Will change the home province of the selected character for Jiangxi (beware, there is a capitalized J in that chat code)

That's all for these week!

Post Red Bases Fix patch

Hello there!

I hope you are enjoying the latest significant content update.

This patch is relatively small, focused on fixing various issues. Please read below for the list of changes.
First of all: A New Cheat Code!
"redvanguard": This cheat code will transform the units of the selected characters into red guards units.

"redarmy" cheat code has been reworked: You will now gain more officer characters when using it.
Now, These Things Have Been Fixed or Modified:
1927 GMD balance reworked: Playing as the GMD in Red Bases should be easier now.

Nanjing Government: When Wang Jingwei joins that government, the members of his faction will now correctly appear in the political chart, most likely as left Guomindang members.

Borderlands Move Arrows: They should now all be easily clickable. Some were obscured by the new feature button to open neighboring province maps.

Red Guards Move Dialogues: The dialogue has been debugged, and you can now move your red guards safely if you had the option to hide move dialogues unchecked.

Unholy Alliances: Setting up alliances between the Guomindang and the CCP in 1927 should now be really difficult.

Guominjun in Beijing: Returning to Beijing as the Guominjun will have diplomatic consequences someday.

Ready to Betray Characters: The bug that prevented you from recruiting characters ready to betray from the character pool, even if you had the money, has been removed.

Officers Switching Sides to the Communists: This should happen less frequently now.

Commissars Lost at Load: This issue should no longer occur!

Disappearing Ma Family: They will now be correctly displayed in the faction's list in the 1927 scenarios.

Have fun!

Red Bases 1927

Hello!

A new big update full of content is now online!

 • New scenario
 • Quality of Life Features
 • New Cheat Codes
 • What is next?
New Scenario: 1927 Red Bases
The new scenario features the entirety of China, except for Mongolia, and commences in August 1927. Anticipate numerous communist uprisings!

The new scenario introduces new actions and abilities for the Communist player:

Red Guards: A novel type of unit geared towards guerrilla actions.
An uprising mode for Guangzhou.
Long marches.
A plethora of new CCP historical characters, some with a military background.
Now, you'll truly be capable of establishing robust red bases and defending them. Playtests have demonstrated that seasoned players can assume control over multiple provinces.
When playing as the CCP, you can select your initial faction: will you lead the Nanchang uprising, the Harvest uprising, or the Hailufeng Soviet?

New abilities for the Guomindang:

In this scenario, you govern a new entity: the Nanjing government. Your mission is to both conclude the Northern Expedition and reunify the Party, currently fragmented into several factions.

You may consider dismissing your Generalissimo, Jiang Jieshi, to facilitate the Party's reunification. If you do so, he will return even more potent later on.

With a perpetual need for funds, you gain new actions for government control of the opium market (they become available after developing the anti-smuggling brigade in a district).

New abilities for the Fengtian/Anguojun:

The Northern warlords have coalesced into the Anguojun and, at the scenario's inception, are launching a final (perhaps desperate) counter-offensive.

You'll need to manage your currency printing: as long as you continue to gain ground, all will be well, but any setbacks may result in the devaluation of your currency.

The Japanese are no longer as friendly as they once were and aspire to seize control of Manchuria. If you begin to lose ground and your relations deteriorate, they might even plot your assassination!

This faction also gains new actions for relocating peasants from the central plains of China to Manchuria and enjoys a special logistical bonus for supplying any unit connected by rail to the Mukden industrial complex.
Quality of Life Features
Many enhancements have been incorporated, addressing numerous inconveniences.

Take a look at the options menu while in-game: you can now adjust settings such as disabling the automatic display of district reports or displaying area control colors on the map regardless of the zoom level.

Managing large factions has been made significantly more convenient with a new feature: you now have the option to delegate a character from your reserve pool to the AI. Such a character will act autonomously, utilizing their best abilities based on their roles. This option becomes available once you have a minimum of five characters in your active pool.

To simplify navigation between provinces, I've added buttons throughout the province map.

Additionally, you'll notice new buttons in the upper-right corner of character sheets for smoother interactions with your characters.

And for added convenience, you can now press "P" to instantly open the province map for the selected character's current location.
New Cheat Codes
You're in for a treat with the second one!

**"miamivice": Grants you anti-smuggling brigades and opium suppression offices in every district under your control.

**"thepartyneverends": Extends the game's duration by an additional 100 turns.

**"cantonragtime": Originally intended for playtesting purposes only, this cheat code may produce unexpected results if used in the wrong scenario or with the wrong faction. It triggers the 1927 Guangzhou Uprising. Use with caution!
What's Next
It seems like it's time to start working on a better wiki.

On the to-do list, we have:

-Adding new music tracks to the game.
-Expanding "Guangdong Revolutionary Base" and "1925 Sandbox scenarios" to encompass all of China.
-Introducing a "Shanghai" Communist group to the 1927 Red Bases scenario.
-Creating a 1927 sandbox scenario.
-Incorporating more spy/underground life-specific actions and Red base organization actions into the "1927 sandbox."
-Expanding the People's Liberation Army (PLA) with additional abilities, such as the ability to change commanders at will.
-Pursuing the translation into Simplified Chinese.*

Please share in the comments which of these developments excites you the most.

Maestro Cinetik

*It still progresses, but expect some delays, including the fact that the new patch alone introduced tons of new texts.

1927 Red Bases preview

It's incredible how quickly time passes when you're working hard on a game! A player recently informed me that I haven't posted any news for over a month. So, here's a preview of my current work.

A significant content and quality of life update is in progress. I've included some images below for you to take a look at. I don't have a specific ETA yet, but it's about 80% complete.

What's included?
1927 Red Bases
Red Bases will be an extensive scenario covering the entire China map (excluding Mongolia). I want it to be the equivalent of the Little Model China sandbox scenario, but set in the late 1920s.

The scenario begins with the Nanchang uprising, a divided nationalist faction, and Northern Warlords poised to launch a violent counter-offensive.

Certain parts of the game have been reworked specifically to simulate the Communist Party's evolution towards guerrilla warfare. Expect new gameplay mechanics.

To reflect the turmoil of the White Terror and the difficulty in communication between the Party Central Committee and the various provinces, the CCP faction is divided into four groups, each with its own victory conditions. Of course, you will be able to join forces with the other groups and reunite them.

Two new governments have been added: the Anguo military government in Beijing and the Nanjing government.

The Guomindang itself is divided into several factions (The Nanjing faction, Tang Shengzhi in Hubei, and Wang Jingwei).

There are many other exciting features coming with this scenario, but I'll let you discover them when it's released.
Quality of Life Features
Many more options, including:

The possibility to let an AI control characters in your reserve pool
This option will unlock when you recruit your fifth character. It will help you grow a large faction. Keep in mind that characters controlled by the AI won't be as loyal or efficient as you might hope.

Move on right-click option
This feature is designed to prevent misclicks. I'm not entirely sure if I like it, but it's now available in the options menu.

Do not automatically open reports
You can now toggle this option in the menu. I know it has been a source of annoyance for some of you.

More consistent map information at any zoom level
The system that displayed different information depending on the zoom level was not popular. Now, you can even keep the colored controlled areas visible on the map at maximum zoom levels if you prefer.

Improved navigation between provinces
I've made it easier to navigate between provinces on the province maps.

I'm sure I've forgotten to mention some of the features I'm working on these days, but you'll discover them in due time.

If you have any bright ideas or requests, please feel free to share them using the comment section.

Have fun!

Quality of Life Update + Information about the next content patch

Hello!

 • What's next (content patch)
 • Some great Quality of life improvements have been added.
What's next ?
The results from the poll are very clear: the 1927 scenario about Communist Uprisings (Nanchang, Hunan, Guangdong...) is far ahead.

So this is what I am currently working on.

What I can already tell:

There will be many more Communist characters.

And may there will be several communist factions to reflect the fact that it was really difficult to coordinate any action between the provinces at that time.
If I choose that path, a communist player will need to make his junction with other groups to add their characters and troops to his own.

Hainan will be reworked to add districts so guerilla units there won't be cornered so easily.

I may add (or not) an uprising mode for Guangzhou.

The scenario will be long enough to support a 1927 sandbox version.
New quality of life features
Quick district actions
Some of you were tired of reading district policies texts, so I added quick actions for the districts, like the system used for the armies.

A new characters and ditricts management panel by provinces

You will be able to access it from a button on the left of the map or by clicking with the right mouse button on the China map.

With that new panel:

You will spot at a glance all characters present in the same Province.
You will follow more easily the progress of your policies.
This new management panel will make it easy to spot that Russian agent plotting assassinations against your characters.

That's enough Quality of Life improvements for the moment, I will now work on more content.

[ 2023-10-21 18:31:46 CET ] [ Original post ]

Small Qol patch /

The map dragging feature has been overhauled, making it faster and smoother.
-A new tooltip has been added to summarize all mouse interactions with characters on the bottom characters bar.
-Colors have been added to locations on the city map.

Chinese players feedback update - October update

Hello!

As you know, I will keep adding content to Rise of the White Sun (until you all get bored by the game^^)
And you have your word to say: the poll about the next big content patch is still open here

This first October patch is a Chines players feedback update.

I made a selection of things to improve from the many feedbacks Chinese have provided these last weeks, and put the result in this update.

Main topics:

 • The Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
 • The military actions for the Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
 • Dealing with bandits and disasters
 • The Chinese Translation
The Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
From your feedbacks, I learned that many of you were confused by the fact the Communist players also controls the Mongolian People's Party.
This was because in the developer's intent it was a Comintern faction, not a Chinese Communist Party faction.
That was not clear, and the desire to play the Communist Party alone totally understandable.

==>You can now play the Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios without bothering about Mongolia and White Russians

You can still play as the Comintern if you prefer (because some players prefered it that way).
Military actions for the Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
Many of you asked for military features for the Communists that are more "1927 and beyond" related.
But, well, ...why not!
I want to keep the game the most historical possible, so, turning your 1920 students into seasonned guerilla warriors will be done by using cheatcodes to unlock contents that are available later in the game.

Here are some new cheat codes:

"downwithlandlords": will unlock useful actions, to raise peasant armies, proclaim soviets and punish landlords

"redarmy": will add 3 historical officer characters to your characters reserve pool (if you are playing in 1920)

"1927mao": will unlock an event to turn young 1920 Mao into a peasant guerilla leader

And an old useful cheatcode:

"redsu": will launch a communist uprising in Shanghai (you will need to control pickets, if you don't want to lose it immediately)
Dealing with bandits and disasters
Some of you had trouble dealing with bandit and disasters.
Others had many questions about province management.

I added a province management "practice scenario" set in Shanxi.
This is not exactly a tutorial, but a scenario with far more turns that needed, and no warlord opponent.
So you can take your time to experiment.

Many help panels will be displayed during this scenario answering the FAQ related to province management, bandits and disasters.

Tell me if that new kind of scenario is useful or enjoyable for you.
You can also answer this Steam news to request such scenarios to explore other topics.
The Chinese translation
Here I need to apologize to the translation team.
I thought that using a robot translation to let players test the game until the translation was complete would be a pleasant surprise.

I believed the disclaimers and explanations both on the Steam page and in game would have been explicit, but some players blamed the translators for the poor Robot translation.

I, the dev, did it because I needed to kill the many bugs created by the Chinese localisation, and decided that it could be cool to make it available, instead of keeping it to myself.

Here is how it works from a dev point of view:

1)The game will fetch the translation made by the human team.
2) If that part of the text is not translated yet, it will then display the robot translation
3) If no text is found, the English translation is then used
4) If there is no English translation, a text will be displayed to report the missing variable to the dev

I was really proud of that cascade system.

I hope you will understand and be patient.

If you want to participate to the translation effort, you can just answer to this news.

Please don't use the answer to promote your paid translations services, because there is so much text that even with low costs and poor quality results if would cost more than the game will ever earn.

*You can now play the Northern Expedition scenario!
*You can now also play on your Linux and Mac computers.

Ps:

 • What I will be working on now?
 • What is planed for Rise of the White Sun?
 • Vote for the next Rise of the White Sun content update
 • The complete list of cheat codes to explore the game
What I will be working on now?
I will work at a slower path for some weeks now, seeing friends and reading good books.
My next "big" project will certainly be made on Godot Egine, so I will take the time to get familiar with that engine.
I will probably make 1 or 2 small games with Godot to get used to it.
I am not sure what they will be about, but I already have some concepts and game titles I'd like to explore.
Would you play to a game called "Mad Men in Bunkers", or "Graal"?

When I feel confident enough with Godot, I will adapt Cold War 2 for PC.
What is planed for Rise of the White Sun?
The Chinese Community translation is still going on.
It is currently at 80% done, and the files are being reviewed for integration to the game.
As you know, chinese localisation may produce bugs for Chinese players, so, I will really take my time to limit the troubles.

I will take a month to slow down and ship only small patches and fixes.
Then I will try to make a nice content update.
(see just below)
Vote for the next Rise of the White Sun content update
You can vote here

Here are the 4 proposals:

-An Autumn Harvest / Nanchang uprising scenario
-Bandit factions & a Bai Lang rebel odyssey scenario
-Steam achievements
-A pack of more characters available to any faction, comprising historical figures of adventurers, mercenaries, foreig nagents and old China hands.
The complete list of cheat codes to explore the game
These cheat codes were created for playtesting or bug reproducing purpose.
They should work fine in any normal game context, but strange unintended interactions may occure.

Power cheats

yollo: gives max resources to all your characters
: same effects as "yollo"
megayollo
:same as "yollo", but stronger

coin1920: a lot of warlords AI in the 1920 scenario switch to a counter-insurgency stance
endgame: next turn will be the last turn
nearendgame: you will be 3 turns from the last turn
endgamesandbox: will advance you to the last turn but will then add 60 more turns (may break the game after 1928)
youdieofdisentery: Selected character is now sick
suicideispainless: Selected character is now depressed

they are more cheatcodes, but they are so oriented "debbug" that you won't be able to do anything useful with them.

Play in Chinese, on your Mac

As the game is in its final stages before release, some long-awaited features are now available:

Mac OS - Yes, you can now play on that infernal machine of the devil!

Chinese - You can now experience the entire game in Simplified Chinese.
Most of the translation has been done by the community, and the missing texts are currently being translated by a robot.

Quality of Life:

1)The neighboring districts now refresh in real time.
2)Clicking on a character in your character bar will directly open the interactions panel.

Game Release Date - Well, I would say it's almost finished now, and I am proud of how far it has come.
You won't recognize that rough, unpolished game it was when it first launched in early access.
I genuinely want to thank all the players who have been with me throughout, playtesting and providing feedback.

Steam data confirms that an increasing number of players are accumulating really long total play times.
This is a strong indication that the game offers a rich experience.

1925 Sandbox

Hello,

As you know, I am working on the Northern Expedition scenario.
That includes many new mechanisms, including the Wuhan government and adapting the Shanghai uprising into regular campaigns.

To playtest this new content, I created a 1925 Sandbox scenario.

I also added the possibility to extend the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario if ever you obtain a minor victory.

In both the 1925 Sandbox scenario and the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario, you should have more events now.

It was very difficult to finish the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario as the Communist faction, because Guangzhou was often stormed by Chen Jiongming's armies.
That should not happen anymore: the Guomindang AI has been reworked and now it rocks!
(Playing as Chen Jiongming should be more challenging now)

You may spot small improvements here and there.
For exemple, I've debugged the Chinese version, but a lot of the text is still awaiting to be translated.

Now I am waiting for the feedbacks and playtests to improve the Sandbox and the futur Northern Expedition scenario.

Question: What is the Quality of Life improvement you need to see in the game?
It may end-up in the next content patch.

Have fun!

Guominjun & Red Spears

Hello!

The Guangdong Revolutionary Base has been extended to include all meaningful provinces for the Northern Expedition.

This is only a geographical extention: the scenario still lasts 40+ turns.
Next update will allow the player to extend its duration to include the Northern Expedition.

Nice new content includes:

 • Feng Yuxiang's Guominjun
 • More Peasants' secret societies (Red Spears, Big Swords, Heavenly Gate)
 • More than 20 new characters

Feng Yuxiang's Guominjun

An interesting faction. you start in a poor territory, but you control the government and will be offered support from the Soviet Union.

This faction's armies can benefits from special "christian" buffs refleating the many ideas of Feng Yuxiang, and of some improvements brought by the soviet advisors.

However, letting soviet advisors conduct political work in your units is a double edge sword: will they remain loyal to you?

Red Spears, Big Swords, Heavenly Gate

These 3 new factions plays like the Spirit Soldiers. The Only difference is that they start in an area with a high density of Warlord and Bandit armies.

Zhang Zongchang?

I don't know why; but you always ask about Zhang Zongchang ^^.
In this scenario, he starts in the Fengtian Clique characters' roster and he is fighting in the Shanghai area.

He will certainly receive his own mini update at some point.

Have fun!

Maestro Cinetik

PS: Other useful news

XthatRandomGamer made a great stream of the game: you can watch it here

My other game Jey's Empire is also in a bundle with Rise of the White Sun and is currently discounted at 50%.

You can now also play Jey's Empire on your phone.

Painless Playtime: Addressing Annoying Issues for Seamless Gaming!

Dear Players,

I am glad to bring you the latest update:
These days, I have been working to address those small but pesky issues that have been causing irritation and frustration among the player community.

This update is all about improving your gaming experience and making your time even more enjoyable. So without further ado, let's dive into the cool new changes you can expect:

 • Build arsenals faster!
 • Merging units
 • Change a unit commander if the unit belongs to a Generalissimo
 • Disband militias
 • Every one of your characters can now Reclaim governorship (not only the character controlling the capital)
 • Governors can now try to reclaim the taxe collection from other characters of your faction
 • Some stuff recently broken have been fixed
 • You can now get easily ride of your sick and bipolar characters

That list contains most of the most requested features since the game's launch. I hope you will enjoy it!

To build faster arsenal, select districts with railways or Major ports, in indistrial or minig districts.

To merge units, they must be on the same district, have the same commander, and one of them must be a regular unit.

Changing a unit's commander, is only possible for generalissimos and apply only to units they are actually commanding.

Disbanding militia is only possible if they are in their origine province, and will reset at 50% the policy that create them. (Exemple: dissolving a merchant militia will start again the create militia policy in the district the militia is from, with a progression score of 50%)

Reclaiming governorship & rclaiming taxe collection: this will enable you to better organize your growing empire. But be careful, your warlords don't like being depossessed from their domains.

Bugs fixed: I am working to extend the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario to more provinces. I can break some stuff here and there in the prossess (mostly saves): that will not last and will be fixed quickly when the bugs are reported.
The Chiense language integration test that was broken too, is now fixed;

Sick and bipolar characters: You now have a special zero cost action to have them die.

Have fun!

Maestro Cinetik

PS: I am immensely grateful for your continued support and enthusiasm.
Your valuable feedbacks, really drive me to constantly improve the game.
And your bug reports, make it possible for super fast bug fixing.

Sandbox Scenario new content

Hello!

As you may have noticed, the game now has a sandbox scenario, where one can pick the victory conditions that suits his playstyle.

Here is the list of what have been reworked or added to the game in that sandbox context:

 • 4 new characters (Puyi, Semeynov, Duan Qirui, Panchen Lama)
 • Events when you take Beijing or Lhasa based on faction
 • Some new character's actions & interactions
 • Golog's victory conditions changed
 • Some minor warlord's AI have been reworked
 • Tons of new cheat codes
 • Some more treason mechanisms
 • Integration tests for the Chinese language have begun
New Characters & Political custom events
Puyi: Few factions have the restoration of Puyi as a goal, but Ungern for exemple may have this kind of fancy ideas

Semeynov: Every white Russian faction taking Beijing will have the option to get Semeynov onboard. He won't come with empty hands, but with Japanese patronage.

Duan Qirui: Some warlords from the Anhui Clique may be proposed to let Duan return as President of the Republic. That's useful as the man as strong connections, and can recruit many characters.

Panchen Lama: A Chinese warlord conquering Lhasa will sent the Dalai Lama in exile once again. The Panchen Lama will be added to his characters' pool.
New Characters' actions
I plan to add many more actions, but for the moment, you have that 3 new actions available from the Character's interaction window:

Indulge: two characters with the playboy role may become real life friends with this action!

Political networking: Your diplomat and statesman characters will gain a real influence when using this action. It is useful to shape your diplomatic operations. It is perfect as a preparatory action before taking over a government or issuing a circular telegram.

Parade in style: is an easy way for warlords and officers to get Face.
Victory conditions and AI's reworked
The victory conditions of the Goloks are more difficult now.
Some warlords AI and Ma QI AI have been reworked to make them last longer in the sandbox mode.
As it is in test phase, only few of the warlords have this new AI.
New cheat codes
In a sandbox mode, using cheat code is more a way to explore the game than to really cheat, isn't it?
These cheat codes have all been created to test the code.

To use them type "c" to open the cheat console, then use the cheat codes below:

"punksinpekin": will reinforce the Police in Beijing and check for a revolt (You will see nothing happening if you have strong garrison there)

"angrylama": just watch the monks rebelling in Xikang, because... why not?

"endgame": this one is very useful, it will advance you to the last turn, just one click away from the final victory screen.

"duanqirui": Adds Duan Qirui to your character's pool

"choekyinyima": Adds the Panchen Lama to your character's pool

"grigorisemenov": Adds a famous White Russian Cossack Ataman to your character's pool

"puyi": Guess which famous historical character that code will add to your pool?

"tycoon": Speeds up all your policies development

"yollo": That one will give max resources to all your characters (quite powerful)

"wearefamily": Will boost to the maximum the loyalty of your characters

"Bogdbreaksfree": Will clean Urga from units and set it neutral
Some more treason
Imagine you have many province capitals under your control: do you really imagine that garrison commanders won't start dreaming of a governor's career?
If you have too many armies, the control over them will losen, I you may have some nasty surprise from time to time.
Chinese integration tests
You can click on the Chinese language button to test it.
You will see that most of the scenario and landing page texts have not been translated yet.
But some in game content is.
I will add new texts from time to time as they become translated.

Well, I hope you will have fun with this new content,

Maestro Cinetik

Old Computer friendly patch

Hello,

I have been adding frantickly tons of new content these last weeks, and a direct consequence has been the game growing insanely huge and heavy.

That could not last.
I took a moment to optimize it so you can experience it even on your older computer.
Well, may be not on your 2001 Microsoft Visa computer...

This week and next week, I will add every day (or every two days) some small QOL, UI/UX updates.
Do not hesitate to jump into the Discord to ask for your dreamed feature: https://discord.com/invite/289Pr4g

Then, I will add some Northern Expedition content.
(Now that we have whole China in the game, and a grand scenario, I should be able to deliver new content fast)

Have Fun!

Whole China playable!

You have 103 turns to reform Tibet and revive the old Tibetan Empire.

The 13th Dalai Lama rejected Chinese tutelage and assumed both the spiritual and political leadership of Tibet.
The Tibetan forces gained a lot of ground East of Tibet, against Chinese troops abandonned by the Chinese Government.
Although a fragile peace accord was eventually signed, China's persistent claims on Tibet remained unresolved, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the region.
In order to safeguard Tibet from Chinese influence, the Dalai Lama sought the support of the formidable British Empire and set his sights on creating a robust military force.
To fund this ambitious endeavor, he proposed implementing taxation and economic reforms.\nHowever, these reform ideas faced vehement opposition from the powerful monasteries, who viewed them as secularist and foreign-inspired.
This clash of interests heightened the risk of an open rebellion against the emerging class of "modernist militarists" surrounding the Dalai Lama.
Caught in the middle, a third faction composed of conservative government officials could potentially play the role of mediator in the escalating conflicts.

Wanna try it?
here it is :
Current state of the game
• The whole China map is now playable, including Mongolia and Tibet
 • Every 1920 factions, is available
 • The core system have been playtested for more than 6 monthsnow and is pretty solid.
What's next?
I will now concentrate my efforts on :
*nice to have features,
*coding rare occurence events (What if the Golog tribes take over Beijing?)
*adding more personal actions centered on characters backgrounds and traits
*adding more sandboxy stuff & features

*Next content patc will probably either be an extention of the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario, or some 1927 KMT-CCP savage action across Southern China.

Tell me what hypes you the most!

Have Fun!

Maestro Cinetik
