Hello there!
New Original Sound Tracks
Jrmie Frmont has composed three exceptional new pieces for the game. If you appreciate Jrmie's work, you can explore his other compositions here:https://jeremiefremont.bandcamp.com/
Reworked Action for Hiring Bandits on Your Side
Previously, unlikely outcomes were possible, such as Communists hiring White Russian Bandits. This issue has been resolved with the current patch. Hiring bandits outside of a character's home province is now more challenging, especially if the bandit unit is strong or heavily armed. In such cases, you might need to pay extra to recruit them. Consequently, you should now send only your most skilled negotiators to persuade bandits to join your side. Traits like being an opium or gambling addict could be advantageous in negotiations with bandit leaders.
The HQ Panel Has Been Debugged
There were some odd behaviors observed while using the HQ panel for troop management. These issues have been resolved. The HQ panel should now function seamlessly, making it an effective tool for managing large factions with multiple armies. -- -- -- -- -- Upcoming Updates: *Improved proofreading for the English version and more community-translated content are on the way. *With many players now adept at the game, it's time to enhance the 1920 sandbox AI. *I have also a pile of small bugs to fix, huge enough to qualify for bug patch alone. -- -- -- -- That's all Folks! Have fun! Maestro Cinetik |
Some fixes, balance and new content for the week |
Hello there! |
Hello!
New Scenario: 1927 Red Bases
The new scenario features the entirety of China, except for Mongolia, and commences in August 1927. Anticipate numerous communist uprisings! The new scenario introduces new actions and abilities for the Communist player: Red Guards: A novel type of unit geared towards guerrilla actions. An uprising mode for Guangzhou. Long marches. A plethora of new CCP historical characters, some with a military background. Now, you'll truly be capable of establishing robust red bases and defending them. Playtests have demonstrated that seasoned players can assume control over multiple provinces. When playing as the CCP, you can select your initial faction: will you lead the Nanchang uprising, the Harvest uprising, or the Hailufeng Soviet? New abilities for the Guomindang: In this scenario, you govern a new entity: the Nanjing government. Your mission is to both conclude the Northern Expedition and reunify the Party, currently fragmented into several factions. You may consider dismissing your Generalissimo, Jiang Jieshi, to facilitate the Party's reunification. If you do so, he will return even more potent later on. With a perpetual need for funds, you gain new actions for government control of the opium market (they become available after developing the anti-smuggling brigade in a district). New abilities for the Fengtian/Anguojun: The Northern warlords have coalesced into the Anguojun and, at the scenario's inception, are launching a final (perhaps desperate) counter-offensive. You'll need to manage your currency printing: as long as you continue to gain ground, all will be well, but any setbacks may result in the devaluation of your currency. The Japanese are no longer as friendly as they once were and aspire to seize control of Manchuria. If you begin to lose ground and your relations deteriorate, they might even plot your assassination! This faction also gains new actions for relocating peasants from the central plains of China to Manchuria and enjoys a special logistical bonus for supplying any unit connected by rail to the Mukden industrial complex.
Quality of Life Features
Many enhancements have been incorporated, addressing numerous inconveniences. Take a look at the options menu while in-game: you can now adjust settings such as disabling the automatic display of district reports or displaying area control colors on the map regardless of the zoom level. Managing large factions has been made significantly more convenient with a new feature: you now have the option to delegate a character from your reserve pool to the AI. Such a character will act autonomously, utilizing their best abilities based on their roles. This option becomes available once you have a minimum of five characters in your active pool. To simplify navigation between provinces, I've added buttons throughout the province map. Additionally, you'll notice new buttons in the upper-right corner of character sheets for smoother interactions with your characters. And for added convenience, you can now press "P" to instantly open the province map for the selected character's current location.
New Cheat Codes
You're in for a treat with the second one! **"miamivice": Grants you anti-smuggling brigades and opium suppression offices in every district under your control. **"thepartyneverends": Extends the game's duration by an additional 100 turns. **"cantonragtime": Originally intended for playtesting purposes only, this cheat code may produce unexpected results if used in the wrong scenario or with the wrong faction. It triggers the 1927 Guangzhou Uprising. Use with caution!
What's Next
It seems like it's time to start working on a better wiki. On the to-do list, we have: -Adding new music tracks to the game. -Expanding "Guangdong Revolutionary Base" and "1925 Sandbox scenarios" to encompass all of China. -Introducing a "Shanghai" Communist group to the 1927 Red Bases scenario. -Creating a 1927 sandbox scenario. -Incorporating more spy/underground life-specific actions and Red base organization actions into the "1927 sandbox." -Expanding the People's Liberation Army (PLA) with additional abilities, such as the ability to change commanders at will. -Pursuing the translation into Simplified Chinese.* Please share in the comments which of these developments excites you the most. Maestro Cinetik *It still progresses, but expect some delays, including the fact that the new patch alone introduced tons of new texts. |
It's incredible how quickly time passes when you're working hard on a game! A player recently informed me that I haven't posted any news for over a month. So, here's a preview of my current work. |
Hello!
What's next ?
The results from the poll are very clear: the 1927 scenario about Communist Uprisings (Nanchang, Hunan, Guangdong...) is far ahead. So this is what I am currently working on. What I can already tell: There will be many more Communist characters. And may there will be several communist factions to reflect the fact that it was really difficult to coordinate any action between the provinces at that time. If I choose that path, a communist player will need to make his junction with other groups to add their characters and troops to his own. Hainan will be reworked to add districts so guerilla units there won't be cornered so easily. I may add (or not) an uprising mode for Guangzhou. The scenario will be long enough to support a 1927 sandbox version.
New quality of life features
Quick district actions Some of you were tired of reading district policies texts, so I added quick actions for the districts, like the system used for the armies. A new characters and ditricts management panel by provinces You will be able to access it from a button on the left of the map or by clicking with the right mouse button on the China map. With that new panel: You will spot at a glance all characters present in the same Province. You will follow more easily the progress of your policies. This new management panel will make it easy to spot that Russian agent plotting assassinations against your characters. That's enough Quality of Life improvements for the moment, I will now work on more content. |
The map dragging feature has been overhauled, making it faster and smoother. |
Hello!
The Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
From your feedbacks, I learned that many of you were confused by the fact the Communist players also controls the Mongolian People's Party. This was because in the developer's intent it was a Comintern faction, not a Chinese Communist Party faction. That was not clear, and the desire to play the Communist Party alone totally understandable. ==>You can now play the Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios without bothering about Mongolia and White Russians You can still play as the Comintern if you prefer (because some players prefered it that way).
Military actions for the Chinese Communist Party in the 1920 scenarios
Many of you asked for military features for the Communists that are more "1927 and beyond" related. But, well, ...why not! I want to keep the game the most historical possible, so, turning your 1920 students into seasonned guerilla warriors will be done by using cheatcodes to unlock contents that are available later in the game. Here are some new cheat codes: "downwithlandlords": will unlock useful actions, to raise peasant armies, proclaim soviets and punish landlords "redarmy": will add 3 historical officer characters to your characters reserve pool (if you are playing in 1920) "1927mao": will unlock an event to turn young 1920 Mao into a peasant guerilla leader And an old useful cheatcode: "redsu": will launch a communist uprising in Shanghai (you will need to control pickets, if you don't want to lose it immediately)
Dealing with bandits and disasters
Some of you had trouble dealing with bandit and disasters. Others had many questions about province management. I added a province management "practice scenario" set in Shanxi. This is not exactly a tutorial, but a scenario with far more turns that needed, and no warlord opponent. So you can take your time to experiment. Many help panels will be displayed during this scenario answering the FAQ related to province management, bandits and disasters. Tell me if that new kind of scenario is useful or enjoyable for you. You can also answer this Steam news to request such scenarios to explore other topics.
The Chinese translation
Here I need to apologize to the translation team. I thought that using a robot translation to let players test the game until the translation was complete would be a pleasant surprise. I believed the disclaimers and explanations both on the Steam page and in game would have been explicit, but some players blamed the translators for the poor Robot translation. I, the dev, did it because I needed to kill the many bugs created by the Chinese localisation, and decided that it could be cool to make it available, instead of keeping it to myself. Here is how it works from a dev point of view: 1)The game will fetch the translation made by the human team. 2) If that part of the text is not translated yet, it will then display the robot translation 3) If no text is found, the English translation is then used 4) If there is no English translation, a text will be displayed to report the missing variable to the dev I was really proud of that cascade system. I hope you will understand and be patient. If you want to participate to the translation effort, you can just answer to this news. Please don't use the answer to promote your paid translations services, because there is so much text that even with low costs and poor quality results if would cost more than the game will ever earn. |
This is a windows patch. (Linux and Mac will follow soon) |
Here we are!
What I will be working on now?
I will work at a slower path for some weeks now, seeing friends and reading good books. My next "big" project will certainly be made on Godot Egine, so I will take the time to get familiar with that engine. I will probably make 1 or 2 small games with Godot to get used to it. I am not sure what they will be about, but I already have some concepts and game titles I'd like to explore. Would you play to a game called "Mad Men in Bunkers", or "Graal"? When I feel confident enough with Godot, I will adapt Cold War 2 for PC.
What is planed for Rise of the White Sun?
The Chinese Community translation is still going on. It is currently at 80% done, and the files are being reviewed for integration to the game. As you know, chinese localisation may produce bugs for Chinese players, so, I will really take my time to limit the troubles. I will take a month to slow down and ship only small patches and fixes. Then I will try to make a nice content update. (see just below)
Vote for the next Rise of the White Sun content update
You can vote here Here are the 4 proposals: -An Autumn Harvest / Nanchang uprising scenario -Bandit factions & a Bai Lang rebel odyssey scenario -Steam achievements -A pack of more characters available to any faction, comprising historical figures of adventurers, mercenaries, foreig nagents and old China hands.
The complete list of cheat codes to explore the game
These cheat codes were created for playtesting or bug reproducing purpose. I want to thank the players who have reported bugs in the game. |

I fixed some bugs that I introduced yesterday. |
The Northern Expedition scenario is opened to playtest for the Windows version (Mac following soon) |

As the game is in its final stages before release, some long-awaited features are now available: |
Hello, |
Hello, |
Hello!
Feng Yuxiang's Guominjun An interesting faction. you start in a poor territory, but you control the government and will be offered support from the Soviet Union. This faction's armies can benefits from special "christian" buffs refleating the many ideas of Feng Yuxiang, and of some improvements brought by the soviet advisors. However, letting soviet advisors conduct political work in your units is a double edge sword: will they remain loyal to you? Red Spears, Big Swords, Heavenly Gate These 3 new factions plays like the Spirit Soldiers. The Only difference is that they start in an area with a high density of Warlord and Bandit armies. Zhang Zongchang? I don't know why; but you always ask about Zhang Zongchang ^^. In this scenario, he starts in the Fengtian Clique characters' roster and he is fighting in the Shanghai area. He will certainly receive his own mini update at some point. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik PS: Other useful news XthatRandomGamer made a great stream of the game: you can watch it here My other game Jey's Empire is also in a bundle with Rise of the White Sun and is currently discounted at 50%. You can now also play Jey's Empire on your phone. |
Dear Players,
That list contains most of the most requested features since the game's launch. I hope you will enjoy it! To build faster arsenal, select districts with railways or Major ports, in indistrial or minig districts. To merge units, they must be on the same district, have the same commander, and one of them must be a regular unit. Changing a unit's commander, is only possible for generalissimos and apply only to units they are actually commanding. Disbanding militia is only possible if they are in their origine province, and will reset at 50% the policy that create them. (Exemple: dissolving a merchant militia will start again the create militia policy in the district the militia is from, with a progression score of 50%) Reclaiming governorship & rclaiming taxe collection: this will enable you to better organize your growing empire. But be careful, your warlords don't like being depossessed from their domains. Bugs fixed: I am working to extend the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario to more provinces. I can break some stuff here and there in the prossess (mostly saves): that will not last and will be fixed quickly when the bugs are reported. The Chiense language integration test that was broken too, is now fixed; Sick and bipolar characters: You now have a special zero cost action to have them die. Have fun! Maestro Cinetik PS: I am immensely grateful for your continued support and enthusiasm. Your valuable feedbacks, really drive me to constantly improve the game. And your bug reports, make it possible for super fast bug fixing. |
Hello!
New Characters & Political custom events
Puyi: Few factions have the restoration of Puyi as a goal, but Ungern for exemple may have this kind of fancy ideas Semeynov: Every white Russian faction taking Beijing will have the option to get Semeynov onboard. He won't come with empty hands, but with Japanese patronage. Duan Qirui: Some warlords from the Anhui Clique may be proposed to let Duan return as President of the Republic. That's useful as the man as strong connections, and can recruit many characters. Panchen Lama: A Chinese warlord conquering Lhasa will sent the Dalai Lama in exile once again. The Panchen Lama will be added to his characters' pool.
New Characters' actions
I plan to add many more actions, but for the moment, you have that 3 new actions available from the Character's interaction window: Indulge: two characters with the playboy role may become real life friends with this action! Political networking: Your diplomat and statesman characters will gain a real influence when using this action. It is useful to shape your diplomatic operations. It is perfect as a preparatory action before taking over a government or issuing a circular telegram. Parade in style: is an easy way for warlords and officers to get Face.
Victory conditions and AI's reworked
The victory conditions of the Goloks are more difficult now. Some warlords AI and Ma QI AI have been reworked to make them last longer in the sandbox mode. As it is in test phase, only few of the warlords have this new AI.
New cheat codes
In a sandbox mode, using cheat code is more a way to explore the game than to really cheat, isn't it? These cheat codes have all been created to test the code. To use them type "c" to open the cheat console, then use the cheat codes below: "punksinpekin": will reinforce the Police in Beijing and check for a revolt (You will see nothing happening if you have strong garrison there) "angrylama": just watch the monks rebelling in Xikang, because... why not? "endgame": this one is very useful, it will advance you to the last turn, just one click away from the final victory screen. "duanqirui": Adds Duan Qirui to your character's pool "choekyinyima": Adds the Panchen Lama to your character's pool "grigorisemenov": Adds a famous White Russian Cossack Ataman to your character's pool "puyi": Guess which famous historical character that code will add to your pool? "tycoon": Speeds up all your policies development "yollo": That one will give max resources to all your characters (quite powerful) "wearefamily": Will boost to the maximum the loyalty of your characters "Bogdbreaksfree": Will clean Urga from units and set it neutral
Some more treason
Imagine you have many province capitals under your control: do you really imagine that garrison commanders won't start dreaming of a governor's career? If you have too many armies, the control over them will losen, I you may have some nasty surprise from time to time.
Chinese integration tests
You can click on the Chinese language button to test it. You will see that most of the scenario and landing page texts have not been translated yet. But some in game content is. I will add new texts from time to time as they become translated. Well, I hope you will have fun with this new content, Maestro Cinetik |
Hello, |
You have 103 turns to reform Tibet and revive the old Tibetan Empire.
What's next?
I will now concentrate my efforts on : *nice to have features, *coding rare occurence events (What if the Golog tribes take over Beijing?) *adding more personal actions centered on characters backgrounds and traits *adding more sandboxy stuff & features *Next content patc will probably either be an extention of the Guangdong Revolutionary Base scenario, or some 1927 KMT-CCP savage action across Southern China. Tell me what hypes you the most! Have Fun! Maestro Cinetik |
