Rogue Kingdoms Launches May 5th

Hi defenders, Super excited to announce Rogue Kingdoms launch on May 5th 2025 - mark that in your calendars. The full game includes exciting new features and content beyond the demo:

  • 2 new maps and longer runs: In the demo, you defended 3 maps. Now, youll take on 2 more, including an epic final boss.
  • 25 new enemies: On top of the 29 from the demo, face new foes with advanced mechanics that will challenge your strategy.

The last demo patch

New features:


  • Choose from more starting builds: 6 per hero, including a more appropriate weapon per build.
  • Random button to pick hero starting build and another for global random starting build.
  • Sell towers - get full refund for a tower if you want to change placement.
  • Button to restart the current wave from the pause menu.
  • The merchant now offers juicy discounts, -20% off, or more with certain relics.

Balance changes:


  • Dismantle refund price 90% -> 50%
  • Hordes in 3rd map (globlins groups) have more time after spawning, before the next group.
  • Dark heroes movement speed reduced when using light weapons, kept the same or slightly increased when heavy weapons.
  • Dark summons HP -50%.
  • Poison and burn damage increased +50%.
  • Buff to mortar. Attack power +1.

Visuals:


  • Enemies now when hit they get a hit effect visual.
  • Added a panel with full release extra features. More about release soon!

Others:


  • Before moving to the next map with >100 gold, the game will ask if you are sure. No more forgetting to shop.
  • Added tutorial page for transition map.
  • Some optimization done. Game should be lighter and run smoother.
  • All relics completed. Capped 92 in the demo and 50 exclusive for full Release.

Controller / Gamepad Support

Hi defenders! Were excited to announce that Rogue Kingdoms have from now on controller / gamepad support. Feels great to play with your gamepad exclusively, or even to navigate the UI with only keyboard.

Patch notes:


  • Controller support - fully play with your gamepad
  • UI navigation with stick or keyboard exclusively.
  • Full rebinding for both keyboard/mouse and gamepad.
  • Pause during gameplay -> show wave info UI (enemies in wave + info & next waves)

Balance changes:


  • Sneaky Goblins -> When close to Castle they will undo invisibility.
  • Sneaky Goblins & Necromancers -> When close to Castle they will not be able to cast Skills
  • Taunt from boss only affects the shown area, and the attraction is smaller.

Rogue Kingdoms in Steam Next Fest

Hi defenders! We are excited to share that tomorrow Rogue Kingdoms will be participating in Steam Next Fest! To celebrate it we are releasing a special limited edition demo for the next 2 weeks, with all relics unlocked! Also, introducing some changes in the last patch:

Construction Mode:


  • We heard you. During stress moments, where the wave gets crazy, it takes a lot of time to click the tower to build or upgrade.
  • Now we have a Building Mode, just press Z or X and youll open a tower building UI. And with Z and X you can move to the next tower!
  • This is going to be specially useful when playing with controller. Stay tunned!
  • Also added New tutorial for building mode.

Dialogue:


  • Created a storyline for the game, adding dialogues at the end of the maps and for the hero with the boss.
  • The full version will have more storylines as you beat the game more times, and 2 more maps to expand the story.
  • Now we have promoted our Intern Merchant to full employee, and he will explain some things when chatting with him.

Visuals:


  • Now Production Increase perks (wave reward) will appear in the top right corner so you know how much extra resources production you have.
  • Added 2 extra tutorials for 1) Skill Upgrades, 2) Curses

Bug Fixes:


  • Bug Fix: When calling start wave with key, next wave was automatically spawning
  • Not really a bug, but increased the size of Tower Building icons, and made less blurry certain images.

Tiny Actions, Huge Impact!

Hi defenders! Last couple of weeks have been crazy. We've received lots of feedback from players and streamers, and it has been super useful! We're not much more confident and ready for next week's Steam Next Fest. Balances Changes: - Decreased Shaman's auto-healing to 10% of their damage. - Buffed Magic Beam - now the effect is 33% faster - yes, it was annoyingly slow! - Boss' Taunt now attracts more. You will always be able to escape independently of the weapon and movement speed you have, but the more movement speed the easier it will be. - Swapped relics that grant certain effects when you get to10 or 20 stacks for the other one. Summoning when reaching 10 stacks was too OP! Improving information: - Added tooltips to elements in the Pause menu for easier understanding. - Added weapon stats in the Run Book - when hovering the weapon. - Now in shop you can compare a weapon's stats to your weapons before purchasing it. - Added a Run Book tutorial. Visual Changes: - Reworked wave progress bar - Increased size of currencies and curses in the battle UI, - Added shadows to enemies. - Shadows are fixed now, they don't change their direction with the character movements. - Decreased some details in Barbarian. Now it has less abs! :) - Added a new font to replace the secondary font. - Changed text sizes so they are more consistent. - Visual popups when spending gold or resources. - Resources collection bar progress and resources collected popup. - New animations for hero when they attack and run at the same time. - Reworked all Cursors to better match the cartoony aesthetics of the game. - When not starting the battle, the button will start shaking every 10s in case someone doesn't see it. - When hero dies, now it shows their dead face and respawn counter in the Hero Bar (bottom left corner) also. And the respawning animation is back. - Changed the "?" tip icon to follow the other buttons' consistency. Bugs: - Fixed a rare bug where sometimes weapons were not visually changing in the UI - Now boss again has their own music. - Fixed a bug were the Tutorial was shown again when retrying a wav - Fixed a visual bug when sometimes you saw a negative death respawn time for their trait. - (Hopefully) Fixed a weird bug where the game paused when quickly entering the merchant. - (Hopefully) FIxed a weird bug where some enemies get stuck in their path finding. - Fixed Ogre Elite attack effect visual bug Settings: - Default FPS = 60 - New setting to turn on/off showing range of hero or towers when hovering. - New setting to turn on/off damage popups. - New cursor size option Others: - Enhanced text and localization. We've remastered the whole text, corrected typos, explained things better and localized everything from scratch. - Decreased Mastery Experience required to level up at earlier levels. - Changed Valkyries death sound - Clearer tooltip explaining you can't upgrade to level 3 towers at first map.

New Update - Quality of Life

Hi defenders! We are approaching the release, expected for May 2025. Well also be participating in Februarys Steam Next Fest. Because of that, his update has been focused on quality of life. Not much more content but building up on whats on there and polishing it.

Mastery Level / Unlocks


  • Every time you finish a run (win or lose), you'll gery Mastery Experience. With enough experience you'll level up. Every level up (up to 38) will unlock a relic, meaning you'll be able to encounter them during the run.
  • The goal of the unlocks is to hide some of the more complex mechanics for advanced players. If you want to unlock everything right away, you'll be able to if you select the "Unlock All" toggle in settings.

Achievements


  • Created achievements: 13 for the demo, 38 for full release

Visuals


  • Game Over screen more clear and gamified.
  • Maps 3, 4, 5 are now less bright, giving more importance to the character and towers.
  • Also towers and heroes now have a shadow and a subtle brightness aura.
  • Improved highlights when hovering on enemies or towers.
  • When hovering on the hero, it will show the hero's area of attack.

Balance


  • Wave Reward that gave resources over time now applies to the whole run instead of only the current map, and grants 5 resources / 6s.
  • When you lose, you'll be able to repeat the same wave without starting over.
  • Balanced probabilities of getting certain relics/skill upgrades.

Other


  • Steam Cloud Save enabled.
  • Added credits page in main menu.

New Update - Quality of Life

Hi defenders! Last update of the year, featuring many quality of life improvements:

Maps:


- More diverse, more crazy maps. - New Curse added which adds 1-2 more paths to the map.

Towers:


- New level 2 tower upgrade for all towers: Strong Projectile - damage x2. This gives more build versatility, so you can build pure damage not involving Status Effects applied.

Enemies Friendly Fire:


- Enemies can now damage themselves or other enemies. Also some enemies like Shaman can heal other enemies of the same species if the attack hits them. - Enemies in map 1-3 that can damage other enemies are: Ogre, Ogre Elite, Shaman. - Updated enemy descriptions to reflect this

Quality of Life:


- Now Relics and Skill Upgrades draw have rerolls. - New mode during Character Select to select a random combination of Hero - Starting Relics.

Visuals:


- Healing Tower only will show area when hovered - When hover over Hero, the area of effect will show - HP Bar is shown on top of the hero apart from the bottom HP bar. - Improve highlighting of selected enemies or towers on hover.

Balance Changes:


- Drops are now much more dependent on current build. - Nerfed Archer's starting relic "Chaos Contagion". Before it added a random SE for each SE applied. Now it has a X% chance to do so. - Nerfed Burst Mortar's Status Effect projectile. Before each projectile had 100 Status Effect Power. Now each will have 25. - Boss has now more HP but there are less enemies to compensate for it.

Huge Update: New Bosses, Difficulty Options and more!

Bosses:


- 2 new bosses in map 3 replacing the previous ones: Dark Barbarian, Dark Archer. - You'll get as a boss enemy the dark hero you are not playing. - The boss will have a random weapon from the hero weapons pool - The boss will have 2 skills: the 2 you don't pick when choosing skills in map 1 and map 2.

Difficulty and Map curses:


- Removed previous Difficulty settings. - Now you can choose 5 different difficulty modes. Depending on which one you choose, you'll get 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 curses in each map. - If difficulty is higher than "Normal", every map will have curses. In the first map you'll not be able to choose what curses it has, but in the rest it will be a deciding factor for what map to defend. - Existing Curses can be (for now): - Enemies have more HP - Enemies deal more damage - Enemies have higher movement speed - Waves spawn more Enemies - Hero gets less HP Regeneration - You get less building spots - You get less drawing aid - Reduced resources collected - Shop prices are higher (next shop) - Reroll prices are higher

Quality of Life / Miscellaneous


- Now when choosing a map to defend there are 3 options. - Enemies now are less cluttered, improving visuals and clarity - Added many accessibility, graphics and quality of life settings - Added speed time current times indicators. - Added a mark to see where is the hero - Changed wave rewards art - Added a map and curses tutorial.

New Hero & Summon

Status Effects Rework


  • Now SE can be stacked, and each stack will have the same intensity independently of the source. Stacks can go up to a maximum of 20.
  • SE Power now only determines how many stacks to apply. Every 100 power will apply 1 stack, and the remaining is the chance for an extra stack. For example, 340 power will apply 3 stacks as a base, and 40% chance of being 4 stacks.
  • Removed relics that allowed to stack SE from multiple sources
  • Added many other relics related to SE. Some that provide extra effects/mechanics when reach 5-10-20 stacks of an element.

Introducing new Hero - Ilyana


  • The new hero is an Archer, specialised in ranged attacks. She has half the HP of the barbarian, but can keep the distance to enemies.
  • The hero has 6 new weapons she can use: bow, crossbow, longbow, shieldbow, throwing axes, throwing knives, all with different stats and purposes.
  • Also 3 new starting relics

New Skill - Summon Valkyries:


Created new skill: "Summon Valkyries". Very similar to Summon Barbarian, but now it's valkyries, yes. Valkyries have higher HP and armor but lower attack damage.

Summons Rework:


  • Now Barbarians throw axes from a distance instead of melee attacking. Their HP has been reduced.
  • Now skill upgrades for "Summon Valkyries" and "Summon Barbarian" only apply to summons from the corresponding skill. And any relic upgrade will apply to ALL summons unless specified.
  • Introduced many other summon mechanics after events (eg when reach 10 Poison Stacks, when killing with a crit,...)

Others:


  • More than 100 relics or skill upgrades introduced or reworked.
  • Heal towers for now are free, making them more viable. In the future they might also grant boosts.
  • Improved movement feel when moving and targeting with mouse click.

Balance & Progress Update:


- Traits are no longer obtained on level up - Traits are more difficult to obtain now but have x2 value - Manu skill related Relics are now Skill Upgrades - After beating a level you move to a transition map where you can visit the store (as many times as you want) and choose the next map. - When choosing the next map to battle you get more information about enemies per wave and you can choose what reward you'll get for starting the battle. - New weapon introduced: shield claws, which grant heavy armor. Now the spear doesn't grant armor, but gives high attack speed as well as the biggest range. - Sword Beam has been massively reworked. Now it takes some time to charge but its damage is much more powerful.

QoL:


- ESC now closes (almost?) all menus - Added extra tooltips to explain key words introduced in a main tooltip. - Wave progress % bar to see how many pending enemies to spawn. - Castle symbol before the castle tile. - Now you will see from where each enemy will spawn in the wave. - Speed and slow time with a button.

Visual Effects:


Skills and Upgrades: - All skills base effect has been reworked. - All skill upgrades now have a clear visual effect in gameplay Towers: - Changed design of lvl1 and lvl 2 Archer towers, now easier to differentiate. Lvl 2 you can choose from Dwarf Tower and Elf Tower. - Lvl 2 mortars have unique attack patterns. Burst mortar shoots 4 stones. - Lvl 3 towers have now unique elemental designs - Lvl 4 berserker towers have improved aura - Lvl 4 double cannon towers show unique designs - Towers have now a unique projectile trail and curve. Enemies: - Necromancers have now improved summon animations - Some enemies have now an attack indicator, to facilitate dodge: Ogre, Skeleton Brute, Demon Skeleton, Skeleton Archer, Kamikazes, Ogre Elite - 2 new enemies introduced: Orc Shaman (casts AoE spells), Orc Archer (shoots 3 arrows in a cone)

New Update: Exciting Demo and Trailer Unveiled!

This update is packed with numerous changes, new mechanics, and a lots of quality-of-life enhancements. Heres what you can look forward to: Key Features of the Update:

1. Comprehensive Tutorial:


A new tutorial has been added to introduce the most important concepts, making it easier for new players to dive into the action.

2. Dynamic Skill Drafting:


Skills will now differ in each game. You can draft the two skills most useful for your build as a reward for completing wave 1 in maps 1 and 2, adding a strategic layer to your gameplay.

3. Status Effects:


Four status effects have been introduced: poison, burn, break, and freeze. These effects can be inflicted by all units, adding depth and strategy to combat. Learn more about them in the game.

4. Tower Upgrades:


Towers now have four upgrade tiers: 1st Upgrade: Choose between enhancing range or attack speed. 2nd Upgrade: Modify projectiles. 3rd Upgrade: Select between a double shooter or a berserker shooter. Projectiles from the second upgrade can now either cause status effects on enemies or heal allies.

5. Expansive Enemy Roster and Mechanics:


Numerous new enemies and mechanics have been added, including challenging bosses that will test your strategic skills.

6. Relic Overhaul:


The number of relics has increased from 16 to 101, each introducing game-changing mechanics that will keep your runs fresh and exciting.

7. Collection Feature:


A new collection feature allows you to view all content, making it easier to track your progress and strategize for future runs.

Greetings, Defenders of the Kingdoms! We're thrilled to share a host of enhancements that not only improve the quality of life in Rogue Kingdoms but also amplify the 'juiciness' and overall feel of the game. Heres whats new in our latest update:

UI Enhancements


Interactive Feedback: Experience new auditory and visual feedback when interacting with buttons, panels, and icons. Feel the click and see the response every time you hover or select!

Gameplay Enhancements


Skill and Damage Enhancements: Weve revamped the skill effects and damage animations to make combat even more satisfying. Tower Construction and Purchases: Enjoy enhanced sound effects and visuals that make building your defenses a visceral experience.

New Difficulty Levels


After your initial triumph, unlock new difficulty settings. Tailor your challenge: more foes, smarter enemies, or maybe less time?

Quality of Life Improvements


Convenience Settings: Navigate to Settings to enable quick casting, upgrade towers even when hero is dead, and more. Streamlined Interactions: Escape key now smartly cancels spells or exits menus. Plus, added confirmations prevent accidental purchases or salvages.
