At the start of each round, players must uncover the Don's killer by finding Clues. Delivering enough Clues to the Clue Processing Unit reveals a Traitor. Traitors conspire against the Innocents, Detective, and Doctor. Traitors win by eliminating all Innocents, while Innocents win by identifying and eliminating the Traitors.

Treason Update #11 (12.12.2025)

The final update of this year. Welcome to Treason Update #11! Without further ado, let's get right into it.

The highlight of this update is native Linux support. We have ported Treason to Linux, which was quite more complicated than just hitting "compile" on the source code. Be warned, if you had Treason installed before with the Windows build on your Linux machine, you MUST uninstall the game completely and reinstall it again, because of capitalization issues with our assets that Steam does not fix with an update, only with a full reinstall. Can't do anything about that, sorry!

The rest of the update was focused on implementing feedback from you, our community, after a very complicated update #10, which took a lot of our time. Thank you for helping us shape the game to make it better! We promise to keep updating the game with more exciting stuff in 2026!

Stability

  • The game will now throw an error on startup if your hardware does not support Shader Model 2.0b. It wouldn't work regardless before this change, this is just making it clear as to why you might not be able to run it!

Gameplay

  • Fixed a bug where selected melee would reset to defaults every restart
  • Changed Disguise duration to 20 seconds
  • Added manual deactivation for Disguise by pressing the Disguise button again
  • Changed default Bear Trap count from 2 to 3
  • Reduced normal Taser stun duration from 6 to 3 seconds, added a separate command for Detective Taser stun duration (t_taser_detective_stun_duration)
  • Updated default Poison Dart count from 4 to 6
  • Increased top speed of Spectator Ghosts and reduced their acceleration
  • Spiked Bat is now a single-hit gadget
  • Renamed t_weapon_bat_ console commands to t_weapon_melee_, because they affect all melee weapons
  • Removed death sound from being killed with Silenced Pistol, it is now part of weapon script instead of being hardcoded
  • Poison Dart hit sound is now spatialized (meaning it originates from the player who got hit, instead of being inside your ears)
  • Silenced Pistol can now be scanned by the Detective
  • Swapped Detective Locator and Doctor Locator abilities for one Team Locator ability
  • Decreased damage of all default guns by 1
  • Changed Silenced Pistol damage from 23 to 15 and 1.6x headshot multiplier to 3.0x
  • Increased Finger Gun player push force
  • Changed Bat and Stiletto movement speed, damage and attack rate
  • Updated headshot death sounds and poisoned sound
  • Changed default max rounds from 7 to 6
  • Weapons now drop from player's hands in third person, rather than the center of their model

  • Using Finger Gun's hands push will now apply some small damage to non-player entities
  • Added separate Spiked Bat player hit sound
  • Reduced default Don spawn time at the start of the round from 5 to 4 seconds (t_clue_objective_start)
  • Added a spatialized "progress bar" sound, which will play when you try to do any action that requires you to hold your USE button: defusing a bomb, reviving a player, toggling the Power Supply, etc
  • Fixed Health Station being unusable by Doctors
  • Fixed a bug when players would be stuck in "you are being revived" mode if a player who was reviving has left the server while reviving, and potentially other ability/gadget-related issues with players disconnecting mid-action

UI

  • Updated chat message when someone joins the game when pseudonames are disabled
  • Changed HUD events duration on-screen from 7 to 9 seconds, added a separate command to tweak important HUD events duration on-screen which is 10 seconds by default
  • Updated Play or Spectate menu: moved loadout to be a separate button, and pressing Play now instantly puts you in the game
  • Updated Detective Scan HUD event icons
  • Fixed HUD carried item icon overlapping 6th weapon slot (gadget slot)
  • Fixed a bug where HUD "you are being revived" progress would go out of bounds due to server lag/crash

Announcing Treason on Linux

Hello!

We've been working behind the scenes on getting Treason to work natively on Linux, and we would like to get your help in it.
We've pushed a brand new beta branch called linux_testing for both game client and dedicated server and we would like you to test it out before we can officially push it to the main game. It is compatible with the public build, meaning you can connect from Linux beta to public servers running the main Windows build.

Stability

  • Temporary (or not) workaround for low model quality causing player models to render inadequate decals and crash the game (disabled LODs entirely for now; probably not going to come back any time soon, unfortunately)

Treason Update #10 (22.08.2025)

Hello and welcome to our latest and greatest update for Treason! This has been the longest update to make, but we have a lot of things to share with you! We hope you like it.

We're starting off by introducing global Steam Leaderboards. This is launching as an experiment, so we've only added a handful of things to track, but more are coming in the future! Right now they include total score earned, number of bombs planted, number of players revived and number of clues delivered. Next up, we did a major overhaul to abilities. Many of you asked us for a way to re-arrange your abilities, and we heard you! We have added an entirely new loadout section when you join a game, where you can re-arrange your abilities however you like (except the first ability for Innocents and Traitors, it's still locked to your class ability.) But that's not all! We have also added a lot of brand new abilities, suited for different playstyles: whether you wanna make a lot of noise as a Traitor, or blend with the crowd, we have covered you!Game Description Image

But even that's not all, either! We are also introducing a brand new Gadget system. With many of the abilities we've added, we realized that you can very clearly divide all abilities into two categories: something physical (such as the Bomb as Traitor) and something abstract, like a skill that you can learn (such as Doctor Resuscitate, because we imagine it as CPR.) So with the new Gadget system, we have divided the abilities into those two categories. Abilities are now things that you can do however many times you want (minus the cooldown) and that don't depend on any external device, basically like your skills. Gadgets on the other hand, are tools with limited quantity, that can be used whenever you want and however many times you want with no cooldown. We have took our time (quite a lot of it actually) making characters feel a tiny bit more alive. We have added facial flexes to all our characters with the help of a 3D modeller RIVEN_LLOYD, meaning players' lips sync to the lines they say and they can express various emotions (which is not in-game yet, sadly, but they could do it if we wanted to!) and with the recent-ish addition of Treason mounting support to Garry's Mod , this is a very welcome addition for many of you poster-movie-makers out there (including for SFM, too!)Game Description ImageGame Description Image

We have added a way for you to spend time while you are bored after dying. A new Spectator Ghost match! When you are spectating, press your ability 1 key to enter a Spectator Ghost mode, where you can throw hats at other Spectator Ghosts, score hits and earn a new achievement! The best Spectator Ghost receives a praise in server chat when the round ends.Game Description Image

We've made some major changes to how Karma works. Previously, it worked exactly the same as score: despite it's name, it did not actually show how good of a player you were, you would get points for just doing random things, exactly the same as score, except capped in the range of 30 to 100. We have changed that to try to represent actually good actions from players. In detail, we:

  • removed any Karma points for winning a round
  • added Karma penalty for damaing confirmed teammates (when you shoot a Traitor as a Traitor, for example)
  • added separate Karma penalty for killing confirmed and unconfirmed teammates (so you would get less Karma punishment for killing an Innocent as Innocent without knowing their role, than if you killed a Traitor as Traitor)
  • added Karma for killing confirmed enemies as Innocents (so you would get Karma for killing a revealed Traitor or a Zombie Traitor as Innocent)
  • added Karma for damaging confirmed enemies as Innocent
  • added Karma for healing players as Doctor
  • added Karma for resuscitating players
  • added Karma for scanning Gadgets as Detective
  • added Karma for revealing roles of dead people
  • added Karma for turning on the Power Supply
  • added Karma for defusing a bomb.
With that, we've also lowered lots of Karma numbers, so it's not as easy to gain or lose Karma as before. And to reflect on those changes, we have increased default Low Karma threshold (t_teamkill_karma_threshold) from 50 to 70 karma.

Last but not least of the major changes, we have slightly changed pacing of the game with this update. Previously, all clues would spawn at a time, so in a high-skilled server, Traitors would have very little time until all clues get delivered all at once by multiple players, and a Traitor gets revealed. This was what we called Clues 2.0 and we are now introducing Clues 3.0! Clues 3.0 is similar to 2.0, but the clues spawn one at a time, and the clue spawn sound is now directed towards the clue location. This showed potential in increasing Traitor survival rates for high-skilled lobbies in our testing, but you can always revert to Clues 2.0, or even Clues 1.0 if you want, by using t_dev_clues_objective_version command or your lobby settings.

For anyone wondering, Clues 1.0 is when all Traitors are revealed at once instead of one Traitor at a time, and all clues spawn at once.

  • Players can no longer use abilities after the round is done or before the investigation starts
  • Increased default player speed when charging a heavy Bat hit
  • Gameplay hints will now only appear when entities related to them are actually usable (i.e. bombsite hints will no longer appear for Innocents)
  • Added an option to toggle pseudonames on and off on your server (will use Steam names when toggled off)
  • Slightly increased fidelity of player lag compensation
  • Added radio voice chat for Traitor communication and 2-way Detective-to-Doctor communication (old players need to bind a key in controls settings, or reset their controls settings to defaults)
  • The game will no longer enter pre-game state if it's duration is set to zero
  • Added distance readings to Info Room dummies
  • Added "Prevent consecutive Annihilation rounds" option to lobby settings (t_carnage_prevent_consecutive)
  • Potentially fixed a bug with double clues spawning when two players interact with the Don
  • Fixed dropped clues not disappearing on round end
  • Players can now push each other by pressing secondary attack on Finger Gun
  • Added first and third person animations for sprinting with Finger Gun out
  • Renamed t_dev_body_detective_radar_duration command to t_dev_detective_call_radar_duration
  • Fixed an issue with player legs being stuck in wrong direction if players stay still after spawning
  • Stats and achievements will no longer be recorded in Info Room
  • Fixed a bug where Resuscitating as Doctor would give score for reviving a Zombie and vice versa (the values were the same, so it did not affect the game by default, unless you changed them on your server)

For the final time this year, welcome back to the new update! We've got something special for you this time...

The biggest addition of this update is introduction of friend lobbies! You can now play with your friends without occupying a public server with just one press of a button, powered by P2P networking from CoaXioN Coplay. Treason Update #8 (31.10.2024)

Welcome to our longest update in the making thus far! We've continued to expand on the gameplay in many different ways, so we hope it was worth the wait.

Player classes

Please welcome some new faces to our ranks: the Light and Heavy classes! With this update, you now get to choose between three classes, each with its buffs and nerfs. These gameplay modifiers do not apply in Annihilation, and when you play as special roles (Detective & Doctor) or Zombies.

Light class

The fastest of all, but also the weakest

Weapon balancing changes

All weapons have been updated to make their purpose more clear. Light and fast sub-machine guns are now deadlier at close range, while heavy rifles are more dominant at long range. All weapons also received a speed nerf, so you won't be running around at speeds faster than Half-Life 1 sprinting (which also breaks physics in the most unexpected ways!) Running and gunning have also been nerfed: there is now a finer line between hip firing and ADS firing, and moving accuracy is suffering much more in both, as opposed to barely any difference like previously.

You're probably thinking: where is the fun in nerfing everything?! and we'll tell you: gun fights feel even more satisfying than before when each weapon is doing its designated job and just as fun! We hope we've managed to strike a balance between the old fun of running and gunning and more distinction between guns because we felt like there was too little of that. See below for a more in-depth list of changes.

The Bat has received a secondary attack: a heavy swing. Hold down your secondary attack button to charge a hit, and then let go of it after it's charged to deal t_weapon_bat_heavy_damage_multiplier (default: 200%) damage to your opponent. We've also added separate, quieter Bat death sounds, so you could sneak up on your enemies from behind, kill them with 1 or 2 swings (Light class dies from just one heavy attack to the back!), and leave unnoticed.

  • Thompson now has slower overall movement speed, slightly less damage, slightly faster fire rate, less overall accuracy
  • The Don's body will no longer disappear when the round timer hits 0, allowing players to summon Zombie Don after round timer has ended
  • Zombie Don syringe will now spawn when the round timer hits 0
  • Fixed DNA Scan ability sometimes not working
  • Detectives and Doctors can no longer be summoned as Zombie Don

We're back with another update! This time, we've got quite some interesting stuff for you to look at. Please share your feedback with us!

Some of you might've already noticed it on our Steam Store page, but we added Steam Achievements! With that, we've also added some new Steam Stats for them! Playing Treason now has more reward than ever.

We've added a C.P.U. Power Supply. Traitors are now able to turn it off to shut down the C.P.U. and all electric lights around the map. You can use it to stop clues from being processed altogether.

One more big thing to talk about is our addition of the Zombie Don! Whenever there's only one innocent left, an event triggers that says there's only one innocent left. Now, with that event you will see a special syringe spawn somewhere on the map, that only the Innocent would be able to locate and pick up. After doing so, they can walk up to the Don's body and revive it by pressing their use button. The Zombie Don will be played by the first killed Innocent that round and will have t_zombie_don_health health (default: 150) with no Heal ability.

We got a brand new gun in stock today for you! Remington Model 81 is a powerful 5-round rifle, capable of quickly disposing of those pesky Traitors.

We are back with the last update for this year! Please share your feedback with us!

First thing we introduced is Steam Rich Presence. Now whenever you see your friend playing Treason, you'll see what map they are playing and how many players they have on their server while also being able to join them by clicking RMB on them in friends' list and then "Join Game", as long as they are not playing on a LAN server.

Next big thing we added is a server creation UI. Initially we wanted to make a fully working lobby system with players being able to create their own lobbies with their own settings, but unfortunately it turned out to be impossible in our current situation so we decided to at least bring a common Source server creation UI to the game, although with a prettier layout, which functions almost the same to the lobby system, except you will still have to deal with port forwarding or using virtual LAN software.

And the last of our big changes is a change to pre-death state. Whenever you get killed with a live Doctor on the server, you enter a pre-death state with a brain icon that will slowly drain until you are rotten and can no longer be resuscitated by the Doctor, but it looked really wonky. So we made it look prettier by showing the player when they are being revived, by linking the view to your actual body and by making sure that you cannot die when you are being revived, so that last second Doctor arrival can still save you. We've also made it so that calling for help brings you slightly closer to death by t_pre_death_use_penalty seconds (default: 2), so that you cannot spam the help sound infinitely or you could skip pre-death state quickly if you want.

  • Doctor's Radar ability has been replaced with bodies being outlined for Doctor when someone tries to search it while it's not rotten yet, similar to Detective outline
  • Aiming down sights now requires holding the button by default (t_weapon_hold_to_ads or Multiplayer Advanced options menu)
  • Sniper will now unzoom when bolting rather than immediately when shooting (t_weapon_delay_sniper_unzoom or Multiplayer Advanced options menu)
  • Fixed voice icon above player heads not working on dedicated server
  • Players that joined the game after round ended will no longer be spawned immediately

Treason Update #4 (26.10.2023)

We're back! This update certainly didn't take as long to cook as the last one, but it doesn't mean that it's a small one, either! Please share your feedback with us!

For starters, we updated the leveling system we introduced in the last update to ensure that it takes longer to obtain new levels. Each new rank now requires slightly more score per level, as opposed to having the same number of score per level across all ranks, and we increased the total number of levels from 30 to 50.

Switching to gameplay itself, we've added a new ability: Adrenaline. During Annihilation or when playing as Doctors, players will receive this ability that they can use to increase their movement speed by t_adrenaline_speed_multiplier times (default: 1.25) for t_adrenaline_duration seconds (default: 5) with a cooldown of t_adrenaline_cooldown seconds (default: 15).

And last of our big additions is Steam Chat Filtering. We've noticed an increased amount of offensive messages in-game, so to combat this, now you can enable Steam Chat Filtering in your Steam Client settings (Steam -> Settings -> Friends & Chat -> Manage Chat Filtering) and hide potentially offensive words or sentences based on your preferences.
