Hey Defenders, my name is Nolan, best known as (CG) Paimon at Chromatic. Im here to talk about some of the behind the scenes and philosophy of our revisit to the roster of Dungeon Defenders 1 and define a bit about who the elusive hermit is. To start, lets cover the why: It's been a long time since a new hero has emerged in the original Dungeon Defenders, so why now? Well, to put it simply; we are a bunch of Dungeon Defenders fans internally as well! After all this time the game continues to have a high player concurrency and active community. This considered, we wanted to help that wonderful community by breathing more life into the game with hopes that the community and the community-made content will continue to flourish. So let's look at the Hermit himself.
The Hermit
The Hermit is a solitary figure who roams the wilderness of Etheria, seeking enlightenment and wisdom. He has spent years studying the ancient tomes of magic and mastering the natural world's secrets. As a result, he has gained incredible powers over the elements and the creatures of the wild. Although he rarely interacts with others, the Hermit is respected and feared by all who know of him. The Hermit was intended to be a hero who could harness the forces of nature to protect their allies and vanquish enemies alike. When creating the hermit the goal was to bring viability and variety to the poison element within the game. Until the Hermit only a single tower utilized poison. Luckily this toxic defender brings three new poisonous surprises to the roster. The Hermit's Defenses are as follows:
- Seed Bomb Tower Description Blasts enemies in a wide radius and poisons them. Enemies who are felled by this poison explode! 4 DU
- Mushroom Spore Tower Description Launches poisonous spores at enemies, infecting them. Infected enemies spread the infection to other foes nearby. 6 DU
- Forest Golem Description Possessing colossal health and attack power, this guardian of the forest passively heals nearby allies. 8 DU
- Nature Pylon Description Greatly increases range and resistance of all nearby Defenses, &and increases speed and casting rate of nearby Heroes! 4 DU
- Wall of Webs Description Damages and webs enemies that pass through it, &reducing their speed and resistances. 2 - 4 DU (Min and Max range)
- Thorn Shot - Shoots 5 poisonous thorns in a spread pattern that pass through enemies!
- Nature's Gift - Increases speed, restores health, and adds poison damage to the Hermit's attacks!
Revisiting Old Etheria
The popular Lifestream Hollow map returns in a new capacity to the realm of Etheria. Previously only available as a monsterfest / pvp map the reworked version will bring this magical forest to traditional campaign and a new ogre crush challenge. This update also brings a new fearsome foe out of the woodwork, the forest ogre. Known to only utilize melee attacks, the ogre is faster and stronger than his traditional counterpart.
When?

DEFENDERS, Today we are surprising everyone with our newest game: Dungeon Defenders Going Rogue! This is the Chromatic Games take on the roguelite genre using your favorite Etherian Heroes. In Going Rogue you will battle through familiar dungeons, fight waves of enemies, and defeat reimagined bosses in your never-ending quest for loot. To celebrate our expansion of the Dungeon Defenders Universe, we are now offering bundles with DDA and Going Rogue!
DDA and Going Rogue Bundles
Since Going Rogue is built out of DDA, we wanted to make sure we provided not only a fair price to purchase the game, but also something that rewards people for already owning DDA. Thats where the Dungeon Defenders Bundle comes in! If you own DDA, youll be able to purchase Going Rogue for a reduced price, and even better saving during our release sale. However, were also releasing with a sale, so purchasing Going Rogue through the bundle will be even less! For our new Defenders that purchase Going Rogue, but do not own Dungeon Defenders Awakened, youll be able to pick DDA up for a reduced price as well through the Dungeon Defenders Bundle as well (and again, even cheaper when there is a sale going on).
Dungeon Defenders II Development
Were currently working on getting an update out for DD2 that includes new maps, a new enemy, a new boss, some new gear, which well be talking about in the coming weeks. Past that we have some MAJOR things were going to be working on and getting your feedback, because weve got big plans and want our Defenders to be part of that process. Were not going to talk about this much for right now, but stay tuned, big things are coming!
Dungeon Defenders Awakened Development
We are still hard at work on Episode 2 and so far we have revealed:
- New Map: The Bazaar
- New Map: The Lost Metropolis
- New Feature: Runes
Free Going Rogue Cosmetics
First, the thing that youll be getting right away. In Dungeon Defenders Awakened, we will be providing the Going Rogue versions of the base four characters FOR FREE. All youll need to do is update your game, and you will have them. Thats it. This is something were doing for ALL PLATFORMS. While Going Rogue wont be on consoles right now, we want to make sure that all our Defenders are able to have fun with these new cosmetics! Getting the cosmetics onto consoles is going to be reliant on the certification process, so once they pass the individual platform certifications, well have them out to you. Second, we gave a very small tease on our next hero, which people had guessed, but well announce it here as part of our Going Rogue celebration.
The Outcast
An exiled general from the armies of the Old One after questioning if war was the answer, The Outcast uses his crystalline arm to call upon forces to aid him on the battlefield.
Were not going into his kit just quite yet, but the Outcast will be the answer to what many fans have been asking for a remake of The Summoner that fits within Dungeon Defenders Awakened. This is also another hero that well be bringing into Going Rogue as well. Were serious about making the most out of all the things were creating! We are very excited about the future of DDA, DD2, and now DDGR. Thanks for all of your support, and we look forward to showing off even more in the near future!

Patch Notes
New Content
- The Old One on a Treadmill will no longer be obtainable. In its place, the Baby Old One will be craftable with 40 Void Crystals. Compared to the Old One on a Treadmill, it has the same stat rolls but gives 1.25x ground speed instead of 1.45x. It collects mana for players, similar to the dice

- A new tier of diamond has been added to the Coal Forge! The Radioactive Diamond is a builder pet which is spawned with 22 Radioactive Coal. It has approximately the same rolls as the Old One on a Treadmill.
- Boomerang weapon has been added. It is included in the same drop table as the Redux special weapons (Plane Gun, Devils Pitchfork, Heartbringer, etc.).
Quality of Life
- The Coal Forge, Void Forge, and Divine Forge have all received UI overhauls to make them more intuitive to use.
- Build phase now resets cooldowns! Your tower boosters will be grateful.
- Build timers are no longer present when hardcore/ruthless are not enabled.
- The extra effects tab when clicking on a pet now displays its size as a percent of the maximum possible size for that type of pet.
- Reduced the size of the Mini Goblin Mech pet projectiles to improve visual clarity.

- The Ascension-only special weapons are no longer purchasable from the Tavern shop. Instead, they now drop as end-of-map rewards using the same rates as Divine Crystals.
- All tiers of coal now sell for more mana.

Greetings Defenders! The launch of the Redux version of DD1 by the community run Redux Development Team has been quite the success! We've received positive feedback from all areas of the community including new and returning players. Outside of the package mismatch error the overall launch has been going quite smoothly from what we've seen and has been reported to us at Chromatic Games. With all that in mind, all launches of something new or major updates cause bugs to come along that need to be squashed that affect the player experience and of course unforeseen balance issues. Instead of waiting for the next bigger update of Redux a bunch of changes are coming in today to make Redux even better experience especially during the holiday break. Since a lot of maps are affected by this update this patch is going to be quite large. If you want to know more about this update, Redux in general, or find new friends to join on your DD1 Redux adventure we highly recommend you join both discords: Dungeon Defenders RnG and Dungeon Defenders Official Discord

The Void Misplaced Old One Bracer can be acquired by completing Crystalline Dimension on Ascension (Neither Hardcore nor Ruthless required), Crystal Cave as well as No Towers Allowed: Crystal Cave on Hardcore or Ruthless.
- True Boss Rush now rewards Divine and Void Misplaced Old One bracers with random stats as well as the otherwise Tavernkeeper shop exclusive weapons on map completion on Ascension difficulty.

We've heard several requests for having Redux not be on a branch but access through various different methods that other games have used for a community made update like Redux, mods, or a new version of the same game that can be toggled. Unfortunately we're in a bit of a unique situation regarding that and isn't something that can just be done right now with a flip of a switch. However we are looking into the possibilities that something can be done to help players access Redux easier but there is no time frame of when or any guarantee that another method of access can happen. We'll definitely let the community know if a method is found that does work for Redux and all the details regarding that when it comes time.

Defenders,
We have some exciting news for DD1 fans! Ice has worked with the team behind DD1 Redux and found a way for CG to provide official branch support here on steam for the overhauled version of DD1. Whats DD1 Redux? Check out the summary, the story and the massive change log below. Shoutout to all of the fans who worked on this project, we are proud to support their work and provide a new opportunity for veterans of DD1 and newcomers alike!
What is Redux?
Redux is a re-imagining of what is possible using the base form of Dungeon Defenders with no limits. The CDT updates were limited in balance changes, map changes, and types of additions. However without these limitations Redux could be designed differently. This time design is heavily influenced by player feedback from all aspects, resulting in an experience that may feel better for the player overall. New features are far more extravagant than anything could ever have been done before, still maintaining the soul of how people enjoy the game most. Redux is filled with new content in the form of new maps, game modes, difficulties, quality of life changes, and other systemic overhauls.
Back Story from IHDC
This project began before my CDT endeavor and the original idea was to make a different version of DD1 that I wanted to play. Ever since the official updates for the game (content-wise) have ceased I decided to pick up this project again. Picked it up again I did and every week Redux continually got more and more ambitious as more & more changes were added. I did all of this out of love for the community because I was afraid to see the game die. Lastly, I want to give my full thanks to CG, the Redux community, and especially Ice for giving us this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Instructions:
Right-click Dungeon Defenders - Properties Click the BETAS tab Click the drop-down and select DD1 Redux Official If you do not see DD1 Redux Official listing please restart Steam
Save Handling:
Ranked:
When you first connect to Ranked on Redux you will get a 1 time only automatic copy from Ranked to Redux Ranked.
- There is no method of Ranked to trigger this copy a second time.
- There is no method to transfer anything save related from Redux Ranked to the original Ranked save.
Local:
Your save will automatically copy from DunDefHeroes.dun to DunDefHeroes.dun.rdx and be your new save location. Attempting to copy from redux back to normal will likely cause data loss, missing items, broken stats and isnt recommended.
Future Updates:
Currently there is no specific date on a future update for Redux but there are plans to have them in the future as the Redux team needs and wants to add additions.
FAQ:
- Q: Will redux ever replace the current live version of DD1.
- A: No. Due to the drastic changes and the original state of what DD1 is today the game is considered complete and in a stable state.
- Q: How can I have both versions side by side?
- A: After downloading Redux you can navigate to the installation location on Steam (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Dungeon Defenders) and copy this entire folder to a new location. Then switch back the beta branch to NONE - Opt out of all beta programs. Create a shortcut to the bigger exe file DunDefGame.exe in both folders and name them accordingly to which version you wish to launch.

What Have We Been Up to?
Recently the latest and last update was sent out for the original Dungeon Defenders from our Community Development Team (who are incredibly awesome, and you should check out their work). This was done in anticipation of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened entering Closed Beta, with the game releasing in February 2020. DD:A is a return to the soul of Dungeon Defenders, bringing back heroes, towers, enemies, and levels youve cherished into a new engine with all new assets.
Weve received a ton of praise for DD:A with phrases like the magic is back and this IS Dungeon Defenders. Our continued work is to iterate on the feedback that many Defenders have provided so far while we finish polishing prior to our February release. Were calling all Defenders to join us in helping make Dungeon Defenders: Awakened the best game it can be. The reception so far has been stellar, and its only fueled us even more to make sure we pour our hearts and souls into making DDA something players feel pure joy playing!
What is Dungeon Defenders: Awakened?
The past has been changed! Choose your hero and construct an epic defense to fend off hordes of enemies while you jump into the fray to protect Etheria. Fight alongside friends in four player combat to claim legendary loot, level up, and take on the legions of enemies that await you! Revisit familiar places, but also unseen destinations throughout Etheria, new in Dungeon Defenders: Awakened.
Master the Squire, Huntress, Apprentice, and Monk to fight off any enemy that approaches. Build and utilize each characters unique arsenal of blockades, towers, traps, and auras to keep the Eternia Crystals safe. The only requirement is to win, but its up to you to choose how! Defending Etheria is better with friends! Bring three of your friends to jump into the fray with you. You can play online, local LAN, or offline 4-player splitscreen. The choice is yours! With Cross Save functionality, youre able to take your save here on Steam over to your Nintendo Switch on release, if you own DD:A on the Nintendo Switch. The same functionality can be done later when we release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
Collect mountains of loot while battling waves of attackers! Swords, crossbows, staves, polearms, axes, grenade launchers, beam sabers, and so much more are yours for the taking. Theres even more epic loot coming to Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, with brand new rewards from monsters, bosses, and challenges weapons, pets, armor, and more!
In Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, customization is king! Choose what gear you bring into battle, your heros appearance, the defenses you build, and where you build them. In Etheria, youre the master of your own destiny!
Preorder To Get Beta Access!
By preordering Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, you gain access to our limited Closed Beta, letting you give us feedback and helping make it the best game it can be! To keep things simple, when you activate your Beta key, it automatically converts to your release copy when we release the game in February. Make sure to not give away your key or cheat!

Greetings, Defenders! Today marks the final Community Development Team update for Dungeon Defenders. For over four years now the CDT has been creating content, fixing bugs, adding new features, and so much more to keep the game alive longer. Weekly meetings, reviewing feedback from the community, and internal debates on the best way to implement new changes felt like watching a small indie studio creating the best updates they could. Seeing what they have accomplished in Dungeon Defenders is nothing short of amazing in my mind and truly makes me happy to see everything theyve done. I wish to express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all the CDT members past and present for everything youve done. Especially Acen, Alhanalem, Antony, Crzyrndm, Gigazelle, Gunnerq69, Harry, IHDC, Mischief, Nexus, OtterDarkness, Plane, TheBeev. Sincerely, -Ice

Greetings Defenders!
Earlier this week we revealed what we were working on so far this year, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened! As Chromatic Games, we're a new studio (which can you read about here) with entirely new leadership, vision, developers, goals, and focus: to make player-centric games. This new Dungeon Defenders title is our first step in the right direction and we hope that you'll join us along for the journey.

Dungeon Defenders II is officially out of Early Access and free-to-play on Xbox One, PC & PS4! With this major milestone in our game’s history, we’re releasing Update 1.0.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftaYaX5A84c
Update 1.0 focuses on our New Player Experience. - 3 New accessories for Embermount - Brooch, Mask and Bracers

- Moon Pet added to Moonbase Survival
- Cosmetic Accessory Set Bonuses: Crystal, Embermount and Palantir (based on hat, mask and bracers)
- News page updated
Improvements
- Items rated as transcendent or above have a particle beam showing over the item to make picking them out of the pile easier. Beam only shown on items not filtered from the minimap by quality
- Added toggle key (b) for particle beams
- Updated minimap colors for ult+ and ult++ (orange and red respectively)
- Electric auras can damage the tavern dummy
- The highest damage dealt to a target by chained proximity mines will be dealt instead of the first to deal the damage
- Maximum starting wave is now set per map (24 on 25 wave maps, 28 on 30 wave maps, 32 on 35 wave maps, 36 on 40 wave maps)
- Camera rotation is locked when in top down placement mode (building / repairing / upgrading)
- New Setting - Can move while building (disables movement while in top down placement)
- New Setting -Enable tower dynamic lighting (significant performance benefits when disabled.) Affects traps and projectile towers (most notably inferno traps and fireball towers) Requires restarting DD after enabling to take effect. Disabling requires a new tower of that type to be built.
- Cursor placed relative to the hero in the placement casting state
- Removed slight frame rate dependency from many damaging towers. All projectile towers, Lightning Tower, Slicen Dice, and Proton Beam. Every point in tower rate counts. There are no breakpoints.
- New item comparison calculation for armour and accessories
- Items can be renamed when at their maximum upgrade level at the cost of one upgrade
- Item naming character limit has been increased to 36
- Added a report issue button to the pause menu
- Palantir, Greater Turkey Hunt, CD, Temple of Love, Winter Wonderland, and Silent Night accessory multipliers now match those awarded by lab assault
- Moonbase now has a survival mode
- Added confirmation message when hitting 42 on Moonbase DDR machine
- Initiate Enemy Drain ability, Spider Minion web, and Wheel of Fortuna buff/debuff enemies resistance factor applied to the training dummy
- Jesters Move Tower and Wheel abilities can be used in the tavern
- Trap/Aura selection priority is identical for repairing. Selection will be based only on current health percentage.
- Trap/Aura upgrade priority favours traps when upgrades are equal, otherwise whichever tower has the least upgrades.
- Instant upgrade will favour towers that can be upgraded over repairing towers that are at their maximum upgrade level.
- Traps and auras can overlap spawns and show a warning when doing so
- BucBay - Repositioned the hero spawn points to face the main crystal and open area instead of the dead end.
- Golding an enemy (by Djinn / Wheel) increases its power by a percentage so the power boost scales into higher level games
- Djinn ability casting durations depend on difficulty (enemy gold beam and tower desummon). That is to say, buffing/desummoning takes more time on a lower difficulty
- Summoner minions can move sensibly over short distances with no pathfinding mesh present (ie. when placed on walls, they wont always jump off before moving along)
- On Nightmare difficulty, the 50% of loot that was not receiving wave/difficulty multipliers has been replaced with fully scaled items
- Party Popper tower animation scaling reduced so it doesnt spaz out with only a few points in tower rate
- EV beam collision is now much more consistent between pre/post placement
- Armour vs. weapon comparison skewed more in favour of armour to bias the drop removal priority
- Traps on uneven terrain can now trigger on any walking enemy inside its radius
- Slow ogre spawns on some maps on NM difficulty are much improved in many cases
- Armour type drops rates boosted by 25% for random equipment drops.
- Character health over 1 million is displayed using the high value format to 4 significant figures (eg. 1.234 M) to prevent the health value running off screen
- Excess equipment removal function has been rewritten. Fixed an unconfirmed issue which removed many more items than intended under some circumstances, and it is much faster.
- Excess mana removal function rewritten. Introduced a biasing system to keep tokens with a larger value around for longer. Large tokens will still be deleted eventually. This is not a bug, but a design decision that was made to prevent players waiting until the end of the round to collect mana and not being significantly penalised for doing so.
- Multiple upgrades can be applied to an item in a single click when using pro mode. No key down - 1 upgrade per click. Shift down - Applies up to 9 upgrades per click. Ctrl down - Applies up to 50 upgrades per click
- Predicted stat value will account for the number of upgrades to be applied
- Invasion shows the current phase number in the UI
- Inferno trap damage and attack rate updates for (de-)buffs in real time
Balance Updates
- SliceN Dice and Lightning Tower - Higher damage output. Damage per tick now increases with the attack rate stat so that damage output continues to scale into lategame (including buffs and debuffs). Scaling revised to account for this.
- Bowling Ball Tower - Faster attacks. Animation time exponent increased from 0.8 to 1.0 (significant increase in high end attack rate). Bowling ball tower damage had fallen well behind at high levels due to its below average animation duration scaling. Increasing the scaling exponent to 1.0 brought the damage up to comparable levels and makes it easier to compare across towers for future changes.
- Magic Missile Tower - More powerful attacks. Damage scaling exponent increased from 1.105 to 1.15. Single target towers need to do more damage than multi target towers. The MMT wasnt, so it gets a small buff.
- Darkness, Inferno, and Gas traps - Base charges increased to 3 from 1/2/2.
- Ethereal Spike Trap - Base charges increased from 2 to 4. Attack radius now scales with trigger radius so it can always hit the enemy that triggered the trap. Damage now scales much, much faster
- Proximity Mine Trap - Base charges increased from 2 to 4

- (Partial) Fix for repair/upgrade auto selection finding a tower out of range

Balance Updates
- Tower Buff Beam - Base boost values increased while upgrading effectiveness has been reduced. Fully upgraded buffs are nearly identical, but unupgraded beams are significantly more powerful and the scaling with stats is much more noticeable
- Deadly Striker Tower - Slightly slower, more powerful attacks. Animation time exponent increased from 0.67 to 1.0. Attack Rate exponent reduced from 0.77 to 0.6. Damage scaling exponent increased from 1.1 to 1.36 Base damage decreased from 350 to 300. An even worse case than the bowling ball tower for the attack rate being restricted by the firing animation. Overall attack rate scaling was reduced to compensate for the faster animation and keep the tower in its niche (slow, high damage). Damage scaling increased to bring it closer to other towers at high stats (because of a quirk in how damage is calculated, base damage remains the same even though it was decreased)
- Magic Missile Tower - More powerful attacks. Damage scaling exponent increased from 1.105 to 1.15. Single target towers need to do more damage than multi target towers. The MMT wasnt, so it gets a small buff. Darkness, Inferno, and Gas traps - Base charges increased to 3 from 1/2/2. Trigger radius scaling reduced to match cloud radius scaling
- Ethereal Spike Trap - Base charges increased from 2 to 4. Attack radius now scales with trigger radius so it can always hit the enemy that triggered the trap. Damage now scales much, much faster, starting off at ~3.5x a proximity mine trap, and ending up around 10x the same trap
- Proximity Mine Trap - Base charges increased from 2 to 4
- Mana Bomb and Purity Bomb - Significant increase in damage scaling. Blocked in assault challenges due to combination of absurdly high damage and long range

- Maximum starting wave is now set per map (23 on 25 wave maps, 28 on 30 wave maps, 33 on 35 wave maps, 38 on 40 wave maps)
All projectile towers, Lightning Tower, Slice’n Dice, and Proton Beam.
- Jester’s Move Tower and Wheel abilities can be used in the tavern
- Summoner minions can move sensibly over short distances with no pathfinding mesh present (ie. when placed on walls, they won’t always jump off before moving along)
- On Nightmare difficulty, the 50% of loot that was not receiving wave/difficulty multipliers has been replaced with fully scaled items
- Party Popper tower animation scaling reduced so it doesn’t spaz out with only a few points in tower rate
- Multiple upgrades can be applied to an item in a single click when using “pro mode”. No key down - 1 upgrade per click. Shift down - Applies up to 9 upgrades per click. Ctrl down - Applies up to 50 upgrades per click
- Predicted stat value will account for the number of upgrades to be applied
- Invasion shows the current phase number in the UI
- Inferno trap damage and attack rate updates for (de-)buffs in real time
Bug Fixes
- Proton beams and inferno traps with high attack rates now deal damage every tick. Multiple proton beams can also damage the same target because of this fix
- Public games being played on a different version no longer visible in matchmaking
- Items with all negative stats no longer show as an upgrade if no equipment is present to compare to
- Large auras (>18 units in radius) are always picked up immediately when entering upgrade/repair/sell casting modes
- Fix lightning tower not being able to chain off an enemy if it kills it in the same tick
- Fix for semi-random interval between first and second shot after reloading a gun
- Fix for other heroes banked mana being displayed incorrectly in the pause menu
- Fixed ghost pillars in Hall of Court
- Palantir no longer warns of fish wyverns
- Old One’s belly crystal can be attacked by all weapons
- Instant upgrade will no longer attempt to repair towers that have health above the normal repair threshold
- Fixed south west doors on Buccaneer Bay that wouldn’t animate on wave start..
- Fixed unintended increase in high level armor dropping
- Fixed Ogres dropped by Goblin Copters damaging crystals in CD and WW.
- Fixed Djinn casting time being accelerated by ensnare auras
- Enemies set to golden state don’t retrigger the Wave 10 and Wave 20 survival difficulty spikes
- Prevented any item spawning with negative damage, upgrades, or ammunition (observed as 1/1 upgrades, 10 damage, or 1 ammunition spawning too frequently)
- Summoner minion collision on client games now matches the host (no more rising out of defences)
- Phase shifted summoner can no longer be killed by explosive attacks exceeding 100,000 damage
- Fix apprentice / squire / huntress weapons spawning with incorrect (high) quality ratings
- Fix items with 8 negative stats being evaluated as godly
- Possible fix for a wave skipping bug
- Fix double multiplication bug causing items in the tavern shop to show up with much higher than intended prices
- Mix mode skeletons will now always timeout if they get stuck in an unrevived state
- Moonbase gravity is not dependant on frame rate
- Tavern XP bonus doesn’t award a “score”
- In Local/Open game modes, having the mod missions selected will not lock out the Shards and Lost quests buttons
- Loot multiplier scaling now increases with every wave of a map (integer division…)
- Fix stretched Squire masks
- Fix for wyverns, djinn, and goblin copter pathfinding logic stalling and appearing stuck. Fixes the infamous CD wyvern along with almost every other stuckage for these three enemy types
- Fix floating damage numbers disappearing offscreen when attack rates continuously exceed 10 times per second
- Fix health decay rate for proton beam depending on the attack rate
- Possible fix for goblin copters forgetting to drop their ogre when the drop zone is reached
- Possible fix for DEW / Spider targeting when there are no targetable players on larger maps
- Jester “Move Tower” ability now uses the same placement rules as when the tower is being built.
- Fix mapname not being visible to clients in the tavern in some circumstances
- Fix accented ‘U’ in Uber maps being incorrectly formatted and not showing as an accented ‘U’
- Fix projectile speed multipliers on Moonbase Quietus reward being unexpectedly low
- Fix issue preventing item particle effects showing up correctly while dropped on the floor (to be used for new items)
- Fix weapons equipped to the series EV not always hiding all particle effects correctly
- Fix map selection UI jumping to Deeper Well if a player joins the game when looking at the Lost Quests maps
- (Partial) Fix for repair/upgrade auto selection finding a tower out of range
- Fix for minimap quality filter breaking for qualities above Ultimate
Balance Updates
- Tower Buff Beam - Base boost values increased while upgrading effectiveness has been reduced. Fully upgraded buffs are nearly identical, but unupgraded beams are significantly more powerful and the scaling with stats is much more noticeable
- Slice’N Dice and Lightning Tower - Higher damage output.
Bowling ball tower damage had fallen well behind at high levels due to it’s below average animation duration scaling. Increasing the scaling exponent to 1.0 brought the damage up to comparable levels and makes it easier to compare across towers for future changes.
Overall attack rate scaling was reduced to compensate for the faster animation and keep the tower in it’s niche (slow, high damage).
The MMT wasn’t, so it gets a small buff.

Greetings from the Community Development Team, Defenders! We are now into February of the new year and we continue to press on with the task of providing you new content and changes to enjoy as you defend Etheria. We have a couple of things we would like to share with you today to get you ready for what is coming.
When is the next update?
First up is the question that many are asking and direct at us quite frequently. Our usual response is "soon" since it is hard to get exact dates in place for various reasons. However we would like to let you know that we are targeting mid February to release the public beta.
What is in CDT Update 2?
As many may know by now, we are bringing Embermount Volcano over from DDE. Along with the new map comes a new tavern theme, new enemy, new weapons, accessories and pets. Here comes one of the pets trotting in now.
There are also plenty of QoL fixes and some rebalancing of a few towers that have needed it.
How can I help?
Help us test! This update is packed full of content and changes that need to be checked by you, the community. We would love to think that the release will be perfect, but we know bugs happen. So please give it a good run through when it is released and report any issues back to us.
Dev Help Needed!
We are in need of a visual effects artist. While the team is great at many things, this is one area where we could use some help. If there is someone in the community who is willing to share their talents in creating visual effects with Unreal Cascade, we would be grateful to have you on the team. The community would be grateful too.
New Community Event: Depths and Bubbles Event
There is a new event planned for Feb 12th - 14th. Please check out the details in the Depths and Bubbles thread.
More to Come
There is definitely much more come. Be on the lookout for futher news and opportunites for you to vote and share your opinions about what you think will make Etheria even better. We are already planning Update 3 for you so please keep the ideas flowing and submitting them to us. I will leave you now with a couple of screenshots from the upcoming Update 2 for you to enjoy and see what is coming your way.

- New Defenses added to the Jester
- Jack-in-the-Box (Level 1, 3 DU, 40 mana): A Defense with a fairly short-range, forward-facing punching glove. It has high health and a slow attack rate, but makes up for this with high damage and knock-back capability, with a 20% chance to knock back enemies normally immune to knockback effects, such as Ogres.
- Party Popper (Level 3, 4 DU, 50 mana): A standard, mid-range projectile defense which shoots a wide range of projectiles with different attributes at random: Magic Missile (generic), Archer Minion arrow (generic), Fireball (fire, small splash radius), Djinn magic bolts (Fire, Lightning, Poison and Purity- all piercing), Deadly Striker bolts (generic, passes through walls), and Ogre poison balls (poison, huge splash radius). Inspecting this tower will show the element and damage for the next shot to be fired.
- (Note: Only new Jester heroes will have the new defenses set to their hotbars autmatically. We have not altered the hotkeys for existing Jesters, so you will need to manually add them by opening the radial menu with the middle mouse button, go to Summon Defenses, and then hold the desired number key down for one second with the cursor over the Defense you wish to assign to the bar)
- Reload speed, charge speed, knockback, blocking, guardian and propeller cat boosting stat generation clamped within their allowable range (no more picking up a sword with 1000% Blocking Bonus only to find it turned into 30% in your item box)

- Online mode defaults to steam
- Fix for certain weapons forcibly spawning with max stats
A message from the Community Development Team: CDT Update 1 testing continues! We've included some additional fixes, as well as made some changes based on your feedback (The genie has decided to grant your wishes and returned to his old self)! If you haven't checked it out previously, it's not too late! Simply right-click on Dungeon Defenders in Steam, click Properties, click the Betas tab, and select "community beta branch" from the list! Here's the lowdown:
Jester
Jack-in-the-Box
- You asked for it, you got it: Now has 20% chance to "crit", dealing slightly more damage and applying knockback to all enemies (including Ogres!), as well as affecting heavier enemies such as Orcs more strongly.
- An errant muzzle flash left behind by the JITB's "projectile" has been told what to go do with itself.
- Overall attack speed slowed through a combination of adjusting Tower Rate stat scaling and animation scaling. The animation should be visible for a much wider range of attack rate stats. We felt that this was important since there is no other visual indicator of the tower attacking.
- Damage increased significantly to compensate for the slower attack rate. Now those punches really... pack a punch.
- Range is no longer affected by buff beams or Monk Guardians. No more super sonic punches that extend several times the reach of the punching animation!
- Base range slightly increased, range scaling slightly reduced; the Jack-in-the-Box should be able to bloody the noses of ogres attacking at their max range sooner. After all, they're Ogres, not Trolls.
- The Party Popper has given up dancing, and will no longer "Do the Twist" while attacking.
- Projectile ratios adjusted favor splashing/piercing projectiles slightly more for extra party fun:
- Magic Missile and Archer Arrow ratio decreased very slightly (Deadly Striker Bolt unchanged)
- Fire, Poison, Thunder, and Purity Djinn shot ratio increased very slightly
- Ogre Snot Ball and Fireball increased very slightly
- The pierce limit for Djinn shots has been increased by 50% (4 to 6). Magnum Bullets!
Maps
- Fixed an invisible wall on Buccaneer Bay. You'll have to practice your miming skills elsewhere, sorry!
- Fixed an edge case in Pirate Invasion where finishing a phase with only a few seconds left would cause the game to glitch out.
- Gave aerial enemies in Buccaneer Bay a strategy lesson. They should now spawn in a much less erratic pattern.
Bugs / Issues Fixed
- Say ARRRRrrrr: the Pirate Patch has been buffed up to Turkey Mask levels.
- Shiver me Timbers: The Pirate Skeleton on a Treadmill is sporting a new icon and a colorization issue on the skeleton has been addressed.
- The original Christmas map boss will now listen to you yelling at him to hurry up (or at least pressing the skip button) and thus his intro cutscene can now be skipped.
- Shock beams now use standard healing logic, which is a really fancy way of saying pets and abilities can now repair them.
- The Shock Beam was also told to stop using its cheat code, and no longer heals itself to full after every attack.
Bugs Added
- Genies will once again grant you three wishes, as we have reverted him to his previous state. This may be revisited in the future when/if the bug can be fixed without causing undue burden to our hardcore fans.
Known Issues
- Mac / Linux builds of Moonbase and later patches are still in progress. We hope that this will be able to be addressed at some point, but there is no guarantee.
- The Pirate Patch reward is currently clamped to Insane.
- The beta branch is defaulting to GameSpy (which no longer exists) as the Online Provider. To fix this, please go into the game's configure tool and change the Online Provider back to Steam in order to play online. Sorry for the inconvenience!

We've created a new Moonbase Update beta branch to give you your Ranked save data and to solve a number of access issues that have been reported on our forums. You will need to opt-in to the “community_beta_branch” branch in order to test the Moonbase Update beta. The current beta branch will be taken down sometime next week. Here’s how to opt-in to the new beta branch: [olist]
Thanks for your support! We’re thrilled to see the positive reception to our latest news, and we can’t wait to watch Dungeon Defenders grow. As promised, here is the public beta build of our first planned update to Dungeon Defenders. This current version of the beta build is for Windows only. We’re currently looking into providing Mac and Linux builds. This is a beta build, so you can expect to see bugs and issues. Early next week, we are incrementing save files for the beta branch, which means that you will enter this branch with all the stuff you currently have in the live game. Incrementing, though, also means that you will now have two parallel save files -- one for live, and one for beta -- where gains in one will not translate to the other. In the meantime, you can start fresh heroes on Ranked or play on Open. If you don’t see a requested bug fix or quality of life change below, please share it in the comments! It’s our goal to provide the Community Development Team with the tools required to make requested changes after our patches, and in order to do so, we need to make sure we have as many bases covered with our upcoming DDDK changes. It’s also important to test this patch as much as possible, so please take the time to run through the patch and post your bug reports in this Bug Report form. Patch Notes

Greetings Defenders, As we teased last week, we have an exciting announcement to share with you: We are hard at work on two more free updates to Dungeon Defenders! After these updates, it’s our goal to pass the torch onto you and give the community the tools to update Dungeon Defenders. The first update is planned to be released onto a public beta branch in late May. It will include some of the bug fixes and quality of life changes requested by you, and finally put Moonbase where it rightfully belongs -- in Ranked. The second update will be a free content update, partially made by the community! To assist, we are actively seeking community members who are interested in contributing to this patch. If you’re interested, please contact Acen, who has volunteered to help us get the team off the ground. After this, we will be assisting this team and you to release future updates. There are already many of you crafting unique creations for Dungeon Defenders every day, and we’re excited to give you a path to get these officially released into Ranked. The Dungeon Defenders community is filled with passionate, talented, dedicated people. While many of you have already visited Dragonfall and rebuilt your defenses, you mean everything to us and we want to set up a future where you can always revisit the original in all its glory. Sincerely, The Trendy Team
Greetings Defenders,
We’ve just updated Dungeon Defenders II Early Access with two of your most requested features -- pets and a boss! We’d really love feedback on these new features from owners of the original Dungeon Defenders, so for a limited time you can log in to DD2 to receive:
$6 premium in-game currency
“Veteran Defender” Title
We thank all of you for your support and look forward to your feedback. You might see our faces around here a bit more in the coming weeks, with some nifty news relating to the original Dungeon Defenders.

Surprise! Today marks the release of Dungeon Defenders Eternity, the definitive version of the original Dungeon Defenders. Eternity takes the best missions from the original game and includes a host of new features, content and anti-hacker security as requested by our loyal Defenders! Visit the Steam page to learn more!
So far we’ve given you quite a bit of insight into how our levels are developed visually from start to finish. There is, however, one final element that greatly contributes to the atmosphere of our beautiful maps: audio. Once our level designers have finished building and scripting a map, and our VFX artists have gone through to make sure everything is appropriately shiny, it’s finally time to implement sound.
When a map is ready for sound, my first step is to generate an audio asset list for our talented sound designer, Afshin Toufighian. It is during this process that I decide which environment pieces and effects will require an audio element and which areas of the map will require their own stereo ambient sound waves.

In the original Dungeon Defenders, we used different colors to designate enemy difficulties. This was a clear way to show that one enemy was harder than another, but it didn’t allow for variety in the way enemies were presented during each wave.
In Dungeon Defenders II, we’ve thrown out the color system, and we’re now using a tier system. A tier is basically an “upgraded” version of an enemy. We’ve shown you different enemy tiers in previous blogs from Javelin Throwers to the nightmare-inducing Ogres. These enemies and almost every other enemy in the game will come at your defenses in different tiers. Below, you can see a Tier 1 Orc, a Tier 2 Orc and a Tier 3 Orc.
Read More Here!
P.S. We're still working on the DD2 community hub to post all of this DD2 into. Thanks for your patience. We really appreciate it! And to everyone who just joined us over the Steam Summer Sale, we hope you're enjoying the game!

Customize and level your character, forge equipment, gather loot, collect pets and more! Take your hero through multiple difficulty modes and challenge/survival missions to earn more experience & even better treasure. Join your friends with 4-player online and local (splitscreen) co-op to plan your strategies together or compete in PvP Deathmatch.
Key Features
- 4-player Online and Local Co-Op - Team-up with up to 3 friends to defend cooperatively, with character classes that support each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Dynamically combine local (splitscreen) and online players and leave/join any time, so that the game’s always full.
- Tower-Defense Meets Action-RPG - Choose your class, customize your character & equipment, strategically assemble your defenses, and participate directly in action-packed battle to preserve your castle against the invading horde!
- 4 Distinct Character Classes - Each character class has a different skill tree, set of towers, and even basic attacks! You can choose if you want to play stealthy, turn invisible, and plant traps behind enemy lines with the Huntress or go all out, block off choke points, and brutally beat your foes into submission with the Squire!
- Loot and Level-Up - Grab the mounds of money and items that your defeated foes drop and trade them or store them for later use in your Item Box! Getting kills and completing waves earns you experience points, which can be used to upgrade your characters, skills, equipment, and towers on a per-statistic basis. Do you want to enhance Hit Points, Attack Rate, Damage, etc? The choice is yours... Store your massive overflow of money in the 'Mana Bank' and then spend it to improve your equipment or trade with other players. Proudly show off your best equipment in your own 'Adventurer’s Tavern', without fear of item theft!
- Tons of Enemies and Huge Boss Fights - Over 100 simultaneous enemies will attempt to tear through your defenses and gigantic Boss Monsters will appear to rain down havoc upon everyone. Only by employing the most effective defensive strategies, teamwork, and strong characters will you defeat such devilish foes! Many enemy types run the gamut from big dumb Orcs swinging huge axes, to lithe Dark Elves that strike from the shadows, to crazy kamikaze goblins! Can you defeat the epic boss battles and collect the special loot while still defending your crystals?
- Mission & Game Play Variety - Each level has a different visual setting, layout, enemy types, traps, and distinct surprises. To collect all the loot and reach the highest levels you must take your character through 4 difficulty modes, survival missions, challenge maps, and more! Some maps force you to have mobile defenses, guarding a crystal which warps around the map. Others have YOU attacking enemy encampments!
- Collect and Trade Pets Online - A variety of pets exist to assist you in the land of Etheria, each with distinct behaviors. These pets can be leveled-up and customized to match your unique play-style. They can even be traded online with other players!
- Secure Trading System - Afraid another player won't live up to their word? Use our secure trading system to trade your precious weapons, armor, and pets with other players online! Watch your name and fame spread online, as people seek out the best pet raisers or item forgers!
- A Mountain of Stats - Every shot you take, kill you make, and defense you build is logged and recorded for posterity. Pore over the voluminous charts and graphs at the end of each session to analyze your team’s performance, quickly review your best statistics for each level, and compare your data online with other players to see who is the greatest hero of all. Furthermore, your Achievements are visible for all to see within your very own Adventurer’s Tavern, and the highest scores for each of your heroes are ranked on the worldwide leaderboards!
- Dungeon Defenders Development Kit - Dungeon Defenders includes a free development kit where you can create and edit new Dungeon Defenders missions and more utilizing all of the existing Dungeon Defenders assets. Download and share these user created levels via Steam Workshop for an endless Dungeon Defenders experience!
