Hey, Hunters! This is a small update for Mac users only. In our big Remix announcement, we highlighted that there were problems with the Mac version of the game that were actively working on fixes for. This is the fruit of that work. If you right click on Relic Hunters Zero: Remix in the left hand side of your Steam library and head to Properties > Betas, you will see a drop down menu containing mac_beta. If you select that beta, youll change your game build to one that launches Relic Hunters Zero: Remix appropriately! Please note, however, that it does not have Steam achievement functionality. In other words, your Steam profile will not recognize that you have unlocked achievements; however, achievements will unlock normally through the in-game achievement system. The Relic Hunters Zero: Remix update takes off with significant updates and expansions to the games classic, addicting game modes! This isnt intended to disrupt the use of Steam Workshop mods, but its likely that mod creators will need to update their content to properly interface with the Remix Update. Otherwise a guaranteed way to play with your mods is playing on the original Relic Hunters Zero branch (minus the Remix update). You can follow this link to find detailed instructions on how to change your playable game version. One last note: This update covers Windows operating systems, but there is an issue currently with MAC which will crash the game. PSA: MAC Users: Please be patient, the update will take a couple of days to go live on OSx. Sorry about that :( Hey Hunters, So here we are, after a few weeks of teasing: the Storm update is live! This is the biggest update to the game since launch, and I am super stoked to see what you think about it. https://youtu.be/W7bWzMqzJqQ The updates namesake is a completely new game mode called Storm. I have been having a lot of fun with Risk of Rain recently, so I looked at Relic Hunters Zero and thought hey, I could totally make a RoR-inspired gameplay work in here... ...so thats what I did! Of course, it is still a bit wonky and nowhere near as deep as Risk of Rain, but it is still a heartfelt tribute, a good change of pace from regular Relic Hunters and, hopefully, a lot of fun! This comes with a massive update to everything in the game, from combat overhaul, bug fixes, rebalancing, new content, and much more. And remember, the game is still open source. You can mess with the code yourselves, and if the community wants to make additions and changes to this new gamemode, maybe we can turn it into something really special! It was supposed to be just a small, quick update for April. I ended up working on this for over 30 days on my spare time. According to my logged hours on Steam on Game Maker Studio 2, it was almost 120 hours of work. As much as I love working on Zero, the game is now big and complex enough (and the codebase bad enough) that updates are a very serious effort every time. So after 4 years I have decided to add a Donation option on Steam. If you have enjoyed Relic Hunters for free at any point during these last few years and want to thank me, Betu and Raph for it, you can now purchase it. It does NOT come with any content, not even a cosmetic one, nothing at all. The game is still 100% free, and donating (or not!) will not change that. I will update it for as long as my computer is still able to open the project and compile it, because I love this game so much and I am very grateful for what the game and the community brought to my life. Updated forever, remember?

Hey hunters,
Long time no see, uh? Well, for Zero, at least. We have been working hard on the sequel (“Relic Hunters Legend”) for a while now. It doesn’t mean we forgot about our little game <3.
Today is a super special day. Exactly 3 years ago, Betu Souza, Raff Müller and myself released this tiny little game called Relic Hunters Zero. It surprised us (and everyone else apparently) with a MASSIVE amount of love.
So here we are, three years, 1.5 million downloads and thousands of fans later. Thanks to this little game, my life has completely changed. I am now working full-time on the sequel, thanks to the Kickstarter funds from our community. We have a Discord channel with over a thousand active members. Rogue Snail is no longer just me - it is now a full-fledged company with 8 people, investors, and a plan to take over the world.
And we owe everything to this little game, and especially to you, our loving community. You have supported us through the hardest of times, and we hope to build an incredible game for you in Relic Hunters Legend.
But today is not Legend’s day. It is the birthday of Relic Hunters Zero! I prepared a small Update to celebrate. It is not a massive update, but it is made with love, just like every single line of code in the game.

With this Update, I tried to solve 3 issues that were plaguing Endless mode for quite a while now.
Weapon upgrades meant that sometimes you would feel "stuck" with a gun just because you had already invested so much Bounty in upgrading it. It was also frustrating to "waste" a good drop of a rare gun when you were already equipped with a better one. Finally, going for maximum Bounty using items like the Morning Star was a dominant strategy.
I feel like Scrap and Recycle fixes all of these things! I hope you like the new system.
We are also celebrating with party hats and confetti in-game! It will last all the way up to the end of August. It is a silly thing, I know, but it makes me happy for some reason!

Endless and Daily mode Hunters can now choose to Recycle weapons on the ground by pressing "X" on the keyboard or "Right Bumper"/"Right Shoulder Button" on the controller;
Recycling weapons give you a new resource called "Scrap";
Scrap is now the only way to purchase Weapon Upgrades from Gunnar on the Endless Shop;
Recycling upgraded and/or rarer weapons will give you additional Scrap;
Enemies have a chance to drop Scrap when they are defeated;
The Ducan Commander drops quite a lot of Scrap;
Luck effects and Morning Star do not affect Scrap drop chance or value;

Hey hunters, We have just deployed a hotfix for our latest patch. We made a very silly mistake and modded guns were not working with any character other than Jimmy (!) We are celebrating two years of Relic Hunters Zero! Thank you very much for taking this ride with us and being such this awesome, engaged and creative community of over a million players around the world!
As a birthday present, we have finally implemented one of the most-requested features since day one: Steam Workshop! It is still barebones, and it was a monumental effort to implement (which included re-coding most of the game), but we think it can become something great during the following months.
Update 17 (Year 3) is live with lots of fixes and improvements as well. We will always keep this game updated, as we promised.
We were asked many times during these two years about why we released Relic Hunters Zero for free. But you have given us so much - your time, your energy, your feedback, your support. We were convinced that Relic Hunters is something special, and we are focusing our efforts 100% on the franchise right now.
There is a new Relic Hunters game in the works. Some of you may know. It is online. It is 3D. It is free to play. It is our dream game. It’s called Relic Hunters Legend, and it will come to Kickstarter on October 5th. We need your help in any way you can - if you can’t back us, help us spread the word about it. Give us feedback. Steer us in the right direction. Because we want this new game to be yours, just as you made Zero your own.

Hey Hunters, It took us a while, but it's finally here! Steam Workshop is up and running! Currently it only supports gun mods, but we are already working on melee weapons and characters for the near future! Hey Hunters, Thanks for your patience and collaboration during the release of Update 16. Even though the game was stable on our own PCs, changing so much of the code at once is bound to cause issues for some people around this big world of ours. You have proven once again what an amazing community you are by being patient and respectful, reporting bugs (with very high reporting quality, I might add), and even confirming afterwards if we fixed them or not. That's how awesome you are. We hope that 99% of the main issues with the game have been resolved by now, but please let us know if that is not the case. We are hard at work on Steam Workshop now, but we also want to make sure the base game is fully playable to everyone. Hey Hunters, Long time no see, uh? Sorry about the ridiculously long delay between these last updates. We've been hard at work around here - we shipped Chroma Squad on XB1/PS4/iOS/Android, released "Star Vikings Forever" on mobile and since then have been focusing on the new Relic Hunters game: Relic Hunters Legend! But we found time to update our dear Relic Hunters Zero. "Free forever, updated forever", that was the promise, remember? :) Today's update is a port to a new engine (Game Maker Studio 2), with a full re-work of a few technical problem spots in the game. A lot of old stability issues and crashes have been fixed (including the co-op and the Endless/Daily ones). There are massive performance improvements and a new "delta-time based" code that will no longer lock the game's framerate. Older computers will have a MUCH better experience with the game now. Let us know how it goes for you! Speaking of promises, we have reworked other areas of the code as well - with the goal of allowing something that was previously impossible: Steam Workshop! Oh yeah, you heard it right! Instead of the "Community Pack", we are making it easier to access everyone's content without us having to curate it. The current plan is to release Steam Workshop support for guns on the game's birthday (August 18th), and then roll out support for other things like characters over the following weeks. We are doing our best to hit the August 18th deadline, but it is going to be tight. Please forgive us if we can't make it - on the very least, we will have a Beta for anyone interested in helping us iron out the bugs and check out the feature. Thank you for your love and support for the last years! There are BIG things coming for the Relic Hunters franchise, and it's going to be a wild ride. Hey hunters, It’s good to work on the game again :) I just released my new game Star Vikings and, after a week off, I’m back to Zero updates! This will be a small but important update, as I’m trying to find the right balance for the Daily runs. They’ve been hugely successful: after Update 14 we were back on over 1,000 daily players, and we’ve had an average of 150 participants on each Daily run. But I feel they are taking too long, though - an average of 25 minutes, with high-scoring runs clocking over an hour. The sweet spot in my opinion is 10 minutes average with a long run being about 30 minutes. With this new goal in mind, I’ve made a few adjustments to the Dailies - they should get harder and more interesting faster. Let me know how it went! And no, I haven’t forgotten about the Community Pack :) Hang on tight, it’s coming! I don’t know how often I’ll get to work on Zero updates, because things have been hard financially for me this year - Star Vikings has sold almost nothing, and I’m struggling to keep myself in business for the next year. All my bets are on the new “Relic Hunters Legend” - let’s hope I can make a living off of that one! We have updated the game 14 times and it more than doubled in size. Hey hunters, Today our new playable hunter, Red, is finally out of Beta state and officially released! To unlock Red, you must break open 20 Kami Cages on Adventure or Endless modes. I hope you have a lot of fun with her! I have also fixed a long-time annoyance for gamepad players: sometimes you start to aim down sights, and the camera locks into a certain direction, but them you want to turn to the other side while still aiming… and the camera stays there! This is fine for mouse+keyboard, but could be improved for gamepads. Let me know if you like it right now! Hey hunters, Feels good to be back to weekend updates on Zero! This weekend I have polished Red, our new hunter, a little bit. She is getting some fixes, as well as a slight nerf. This should put her more on par with the other Hunters. Betu is at GDC since last week (and will still be away for a few days) and I need him to complete some missing art assets for Red. So she’s still considered Beta. Expect her full release in Update #13! As a bonus, I have put a new gun in the game: the Blast Pistol. It is a heavy ammo pistol that fires exploding shots. It is… a blast ;) And if you want to make mods (and can forgive me for that pun I just did) maybe you’ll want to check out our new tutorial video. It teaches you how to create a rocket that throws monsters. But a few bugs popped up during the week and ended up on my to-do list, so I figured I might as well upload them for you! Hey hunters, Betu and I have started work on the Halloween update! We are very excited about it, as it will showcase our vision of how Endless Mode can expand in interesting directions in the future. Also, sorry for the lack of an Update last weekend - we were at Brasil Game Show at the Sony booth, showcasing our game Chroma Squad on the Playstation 4. It was very tiring, but worthwhile! Today we bring you a lot of new guns! One of my personal favorites is the spectral shotgun called “Spooky Reaper”, inspired by the mod “Sweet Reaper” by ThoBeo. You can check the original mod right here, alongside his new Hunter mod “Scar”: Original Mod . To access the cool new Spooky and Ducan weapons, you will need a bit of luck to dig out the new chest types. They are still missing art, which is coming next week, so if you see a bright green or dark blue chest you will know you have found a Ducan Chest or a Haunted Chest, respectively. Opening these chests is not free, however - it will trigger a new unique Challenge associated with that faction, so think if you want to take the risk before opening! See you next week! Hey hunters, Here we are: October 1st. Our first major expansion for the game is done! The last couple of months have been really great. Almost 500.000 hunters joined the fight in Asteroid Dungeon Nemesis, and you have been creating mods and collaborating with the future of our little game. We couldn’t be happier! Hey hunters, We are very happy to announce the release date for Endless Mode: October 1st! The game seems to be stable enough, so we’re confident everything will go smoothly. Our work on Zero is far from done, however. Endless is a great foundation, but we still need much more content! We’re planning on integrating some cool mods into the game officially, as well as make new stuff of our own. We will probably have another balancing and fixes update after October 1st, but then we move on to new stuff. Up next: Halloween update! Hey hunters, Today is a big day! Endless Mode is finally feature-complete. It still lacks polish and might have bugs, so we’d appreciate if you would help us test it and give us your feedback! Here’s how: 1) Go to your Steam library; 2) Right-click “Relic Hunters Zero” and select “Properties”; 3) Click the “Betas” tab; 4) You will find a field labeled “Enter beta access code to unlock private betas”. Type the following password (without the quotes): “endlesstester”; 5) Click “Check Code”; 6) If you did everything right, you should see this message: “Successfully opted into the ‘endless_test’ content beta.”; 7) Click the drop-down menu labeled “Select the beta you would like to opt into:”, and then select the option “endless_test”; 8) Close the window. Hey hunters, This is our fourth Update, and it is earlier and smaller than usual. Reason is I’m going out of town tomorrow to do a talk, so I have only half a weekend :O Big changes if you like Pinkyy and Biu, though. I’m currently focusing on build variety and viability in Endless mode, so these two characters needed a few tweaks to get up to the required level of quality. Also, thanks to your feedback, we have tuned enemy grenade and rocket damage. They are still very dangerous, but will no longer one-hit-kill you at full health if you have shields up. Even damaged shields will absorb a big chunk of the explosion’s total damage. Endless is so close I can almost taste it! I hope you are all as excited as we are - it will change this game completely. We are also working on new characters, new weapons, new zones, new enemies… Relic Hunters has just begun! Modders: the often-requested “class_melee” is available. It is a bit rudimentary, with support for ammo use and special effects still on the way, but it should make your lives easier already. There’s also “class_summon” and a new faction for “player objects” that enemy AI will recognize and react accordingly - you can now create pets, summoned creatures, sentry guns, etc. Customizing Grenades per character is now as simple as changing a single variable. Hey hunters, It is weekend 3, Update 3 and you are 300,000 hunters around the world! See the pattern there? It is a VERY GOOD one, very good indeed. You have been making really cool mods, and you have inspired Betu and I to work very hard on the next big things. Endless mode is almost complete! We still need to implement Digging, Chests and Hacking, which should all be done next weekend. If everything works fine, we should all be sharing our high scores before October. I also completely rebalanced the base gameplay and Adventure mode to make space for all the cool stuff coming from Endless. The game will be a bit easier on Adventure mode now, and the grinding a bit faster. We want everyone to learn how to beat the Ducan Commander in Adventure before he’s ready to completely destroy you all again in Endless. Also, I would like to thank the new Open Source contributors that have added their code to the game. If you are waiting for me to approve a Pull Request, please be patient. I have very little free time to work on the game, so I prioritized the new Endless features over integrating and testing your code. I am sorry, and promise to stop procrastinating as soon as you’re reading this. Finally, some of you may have noticed our Localization spreadsheet has been locked. This is due to heavy changes from Endless development. Since I don’t want you to lose translation work, or end up creating bugs while the new mode is being made, it will stay locked until Endless is content-complete (which should happen next weekend).
