Gauntlet of Power Patch 4: The Temple and the Rogue

The new update for Heroes of Loot: Gauntlet of Power is now live!

New Content:

Hidden realm: The Temple New unlockable character: The Rogue New friendlies New enemies Grab the update now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2374320/Heroes_Of__Loot_Gauntlet_Of_Power/

More info:

Besides adding the new realm and characters, I made some small changes to balancing things out (especially for the easy mode). I also made the realms more of a choice to go into or not, as it will mean you now skip one or two levels. So if you are in a hurry and want to speedrun the game, knowing where to find the entries to these realms is certainly key.. but I can imagine it might sometimes be more interesting to NOT take the realm-route and grab some extra loot in the levels you would otherwise skip. If you need a little spoiler on how/where to find the Rogue unlock tokens, make sure to check the Orangepixel website for the Games Wiki.

Regulator City gets a new public demo

Hi! Just a short update to let you know that there is NOW a new Regulator City DEMO available ! Still in heavy development, but I'm very pleased with where the game currently is. There's a smoother game-flow experience (mission structure, city progress, all make more sense as you play) and there is even some on-boarding for new players in a short little "tutorial" level. You'll also experience a much better stealthy and sneaking-around experience to complete your missions!
This demo also brings you a new playable character: Wrecking-ball ! His dash is VERY nice to use, and his Special ability certainly packs a punch ;) So please come and check it out, and if you haven't yet, wishlist the game! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1892750/Regulator_City/

Come play: Sir Questionnaire

Hi guys! Just wanted to let you know that I just pushed the release button on a new Orangepixel Steam release: Sir Questionnaire! It's a quirky game at a bargain price, it provides hours of gameplay in a VERY small package: The game is played in single dungeon rooms, where you are given the choice to either "interact" or "get outta there!".
Do you attack the skulls? got enough health? got the right weapon for the lobsters? Got some magic left to hit the huge Wolf on his head? Dare to drink the milk before the next encounter? A game of choices - how far can you venture into the dungeon? Come play Sir Questionnaire, and make sure to drop by on discord if you need tips & tricks! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2124790/Sir_Questionnaire

v1.6.0 - the big level 12 fix

Version 1.6.0 is here! and this one hopefully fixes the level-generation bugs that have been haunting level 12 for so long. Please test out the new version, and if you still run into the problem where levels are not completable because of walls blocking your movements or doors not being there or even monsters walking through/on-top of walls, then let me know! IF you run into those problems, try to include a screenshot, and if it's on any other level then level 12, it's even more important to know that smile (right now I believe those issues are all limited to level 12 only) happy shooting!

version 1.4.1 - the dreaded end boss problems

A quick little fix, that hopefully ends all the end-boss problems people have been getting (a.k.a: the missing-switch). Let me know if you still run into the missing-switch problem in the end boss level. I'm 90% sure this fix does away with it, but I've been sure before ;) I also added a setting to the options menu to toggle between the old resolution and the new resolution as was introduced in the previous update. I can understand not everybody likes the higher-resolution (and the added view-distance it brings) so this is a way for you to change back to the original one. So.. go update!

version 1.4.0 - more screen space

Some minor, much overdue, fixes in this version and a big update to the graphics. The internal game resolution is increased about 5%-10% depending on your display settings. Meaning the graphics are now a bit smaller on the eyes but also come up more detailed and less pixelated without losing their pixel-art nature. It also means I could increase the amount of scores shown from 10-20 and combined the statistics screen into one big one. I'm looking at adding a "new" leaderboard splitting up the Survivors into their own board, making the global board more interesting. This will be done in a future update as soon as I'm done with Heroes of Loot 2 (4-8 weeks I hope). I'll also hopefully be able to wrap up the level-editor and get that fully released later this year (haven't forgotten about it)

  • fix: Techjunky b-skin voice now female
  • add: max-level to character screen (eg: level 2/4)
  • add: datacard for “Sluggish”
  • fixed bug with fullscreen switching
  • improved graphics (slightly higher resolution)
  • increase scoreboard to show 20 scores (previously 10)

Version 1.2.0 - aka update 37: Tricorder (monster health)

First a little news bit: Space Grunts is now also available to take with you on the road! Available on the App store and Google Play - www.spacegrunts.com for the links. Now to the important stuff: So it seems there is a big divide in the players between wanting the monsters showing their status/health in some way, and those that like it the way it is. Originally I had this code in the early versions of the game, but I actually removed it many months ago simply because I didn't want it in my game. This is not a generic turn-based game, I'm trying to create something different (and I think I did that) by adding an arcade/action feeling to it. Statistics and numbers in a game turn me off, so why would I want them in my game. This is the turn-based game that I, as arcade action lover, want (and still fanatically) play. BUT I can see the advantage it gives in some situations during the game, so my solution is: The Tricorder! It's an item that give you those stats for an X amount of turns, and yes in some situations that can be a pretty good thing to have. It adds another layer of tactics about when to use the item and all that without turning the complete game into a numbers-game (play one of the thousands of other TBS games if you really need that to make a game fun). So a small but interesting update this time :) Full update list: interface:

  • moved “Credits” to options menu
  • changed versioning to 1.2.0 from “update x”
game:
  • added new item: Tricorder; detects life and energy forms (showing health of enemies for X turns)
  • fixed issues with many explosion sounds triggering
  • rewrote audio handling
  • added “loading” message to the initialization state
  • fixed small framerate issue

update 36: small cleanups + important question / poll

A little maintenance update here, fixing some minor bugs and issues. So some remarks have been made about adding a health-bar to the monsters for tactical reasons. On one side I understand why, as I originally had that in the early builds, but I also think it's not required for this game. My idea is that first the datacards are part of that information, they have the info on what average health/danger specific monsters have. And second, again in my opinion, it's also a skill that grows the more you play. You learn how many damage a monster takes, and if you should run or fight. So, what is your idea on this, leave a comment below! Do you think health-stats on monsters should be added, or not? game:

  • fix: recycle device sometimes spawned on player spot
  • fix: “special door” now loads correct world-graphics when going through
  • fix: tried to make sure the worm cave doesn’t spawn in-front of hallways
  • fix: correctly save game level to save-game
  • added: shiny floor effect to lab levels

Update 34: recycle your items into ammo!

I can't help but keep updating the game, even tho I'm releasing the game officially on Tuesday (leaving early access) I do plan to push some more updates like this one! Many people complained about sometimes running out of ammo in later levels.. and a few people actually came with a great solution! Which I also liked so here it is, "the recycler"! These devices are randomly found around the moon-base, and you can recycle your items in return for an ammo-pack. The ammo you get is a bit randomized, but you always get at least 4 of every ammo type. I might change it in future updates so that some items give more ammo or ammo of a specific type, but for now this is a nice solution to the ammo vs item problem ;) There are also some fixes pushed in this update, and as always let me know if I accidentally broke other stuff ;) interface:

  • fix: small issues with the mouse-cursor
game:
  • fix: removed cabinets from ancient and cave worlds
  • fix: improved looks on the interaction arrow (exit, cpu, etc)
  • fix: turned down the amount of red-blinking when taking big damage
  • fix: improved strength on tech-mine, and delay before it explodes
  • fix: improved detectors (more accurate, less annoying)
  • added: Ammo recycle dispensers - recycle your items for ammo

update 33: input delay and editor improvements

Welcome in 2016! and more importantly, welcome to the last update pre-release.. Next week (12th of January) the game will see an official release on Steam, hopefully bringing a lot of new players to the game. I do need to fix a few things, so that's what this update hopes to do.. please let me know if you run into anything! Most of the new stuff is in the editor (see previous announcement) which now comes with loading and saving (including pushing it to Steam workshop which is hidden for now). All feedback on the editor is also welcome to help me improve that one and get it ready for real world stuff.. interface:

  • fix: engine fixes, slight speed increase
  • fix: various small interface glitches
  • added: datacard for alien-goo barrel
game:
  • fix: minor delay between input-registering, should mean less “accidental moves”
  • fix: player sometimes keeping keycard from previous game
  • fix: various lights didn’t work as they should
  • added: small glow effect to the worms (makes them easier to spot)
  • added: pop-up hint (tutorial) on auto-saving
editor:
  • fix: door placement not working correctly
  • fix: swapping between edit and test
  • fix: removed some “unusable” monsters from monster picker
  • added: loading + saving + steam cloud publishing
  • added: setting title+description
  • added: deleting level
  • added: correct light and ambience based on tileset

update 32: fixing and editing

This update is really more a maintenance update as I don't want to do a lot of changes just two weeks before the full release (leaving early access: woohoo!) So as for the game stuff, just some minor fixes nothing big. Few visual bugs with your "Best score" stuff in the leaderboards, and a possible crash at startup caused by mouse movements. BUT this version does come with a little extra fun: a very early alpha version of the level editor. To activate the editor do the following: 1. From within steam, right click on the game and select Properties 2. at the "startup options" add: edit 3. run the game. If done correctly it gives you a "create" menu item under the quit item in the main menu. Right now you can create a level, and test the level. but there is no saving/loading implemented yet.. it can also bug out at any time, so don't go crazy on making awesome levels just yet! The plan is to add steam workshop later so that we can play stand-alone missions created by the community (hopefully). Feedback on the editor is appreciated! interface

  • fix: last 2 datacard names got messed up
  • fix: problem with your personal “Best score” in leaderboards
  • fix: daily “personal best score” (bugged out due to cloud saving)
  • fix: random crashes at startup (caused by mouse movement)

Work in progress: Level editor

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=585288160 It needs a lot of work, but people asked for a level editor and I figured it could be interesting to keep the community entertained for a bit longer. Also there is a limitation at what the generated levels can throw at you, and I'm hoping we'll see some very cunning and challenging levels from the community. The idea is that you'll be able to build a single level/mission, set a difficulty level for it, and then make it available to others on Steam Workshop. The editor runs in the game itself, which is pretty sweet, and I've been working on it for just a day or so, and it's already comes with most of the stuff you'd want to place in a level available to you! I plan to keep the editor as easy to use as possible, so that everybody can generate at least some form of level with it. It's probably not gonna make the deadline of the game's release (January 12th) but it shouldn't take a lot longer after that (I hope)

Pushing a small update to fix an issue with the prize-giving (only the first 2 players received their prize) Also made the contest-popup only show once.. will refine that in a future update to make it pop-up possibly 3 times or something. Update 31: Cloud saving and contests!

Somebody mentioned Cloud saving? Actually, a few people did, and lucky for you guys I recently got a new PC so I also needed a way to take my progress with me: enter Steam cloud-saving. It's a best-case implementation, so if you have the game on 2 pc's, it will only take your cloud-progress if your local progress is "less". Another cool thing added in this update is the Moonbase-logs, you can find them in the stats menu near the datacards. Basically these logs unlock with every NPC you find per level. Finding all of them will be hard, but it will open up some nice lore on the happenings in the base. I'm also trying something new in this update, I added code which, in theory, should allow for contests! The prizes for these contests are in-game awards for now, so you might be able to win a battle-suit, or a gaia statue for your next run, etc. It will also be possible to win a b-skin! so let's see how that all works out. I'll come up with a contest soon, it should all auto-trigger on your game, and we'll take it from there, see where it takes us ;) And finally I updated the HUD, to a more space-marine style look. Think that removes the last few bits of the game that still reminded me of Heroes of Loot which it originally would be a sequel to ;) interface:

  • added: Steam cloud-saving (datacards, unlocks, stats)
  • added: contest-handling code! (I really love this, you’ll see!)
  • added: one new datacard to collect
  • added: story-logs (see stats menu, find NPC’s to unlock them)
  • change: a new game hud, a more space-marine-type-style-thingie
  • fix: changed text “destroy’s” into “destroys”
game:
  • added: finding NPC now unlocks story logs
  • fix: Moonbase 30 achievement not unlocking fully

The year 2476, Earth's space-federation has been building moon-bases across the galaxy. One of those moon-bases has been sending a distress signal. Space Grunts are a group of intergalactic "problem" solvers, sent to investigate..

You play one, out of a team, of Space Grunts, and your mission is simple: find your way into the moon-base, and figure out what has happened. You'll have to fight your way through aliens, robots, security drones and base-systems. Find the lower levels of the moon-base, and get to the core of the problems.

Consumables - A large collection of consumables can be found all over the moon base from weapon enhancers, to destructive toys, armor, explosives, system-hacks, and more. Use the items wisely to advance deeper into the moon-base.

Weapons - Starting with three standard Grunt weapons, you will be able to enhance them for more fire-power and range. On your way you'll also find alternate weapons, and melee weapons.

Secrets - There are various ways to complete the game, anomalies leading to weird places, underground routes, and mysterious items to transport you to other area's of the moon-base. On top of these there are secret rooms and area's located all over the base, so never a dull moment!

Can you find the core of the problems?
