Missing tutorial text bug fix

Sometimes the tutorial wouldn't load in properly, showing no text to the players. This bug was very tricky to find since it doesn't show up in the engine. We hope we got it though. Apologies for the issue.

Reworked card frames and card text. Readability of cards should be drastically improved.

Improved main menu buttons. Still WIP.

Performance optimization.

Balance
Stolen From The Dark changed to: Void a non-Avatar Companion from either Ashes. Restore health to yourself equal to their attack. Once a turn, if Stolen From The Dark is in your Ashes, after an allied Avatar enters the Story give the Avatar +2/+1. Then, at the end of your turn, return Stolen From The Dark to your Hand.

Null dreams first ability to 3N.

Null Dreams second ability requires 3 cards to be voided.

Forgotten mana cost changed to 2V.

The Headsmans Axe mana cost increased to 1N1V.

Just A Small Favor mana cost increased to 3N2I.

Just A Small Favor text changed to: Choose one. If you played a Bag of Crowns this turn, choose two instead: Develop; disarm all opposing Companions; deal 3 damage to all opposing Companions; or deal 5 damage to any target.

Planar Skew mana cost increased to 3N3I3V.

Gratitude mana cost increased to 2N1I2D. Span decreased to 4.

This means Maul enter and Maul retreat now cool down independently. Example: Maul enters. Maul enter is now on cooldown for 2 turns. Next turn. Maul enter CD is now 1. Maul retreats. End turn. Maul enter CD is now 0. Maul can enter again.

This also means Maul can now retreat and enter again in the same turn if its been 2 turns since Maul entered.

This has no effect on how Maul being removed from the Story currently works.

Make Maul not targetable by copy effects.

Removed Preparing Primordiums Dusk.

Garden of Thunder to 4 and 6 damage. Mana cost to 3N5I.

Epigone no longer develops.

Siege Baron secondary now deals 1 damage per 6 cards.

For Hire, For Sale mana cost increased to 1N1I.

Omnibroker mana cost increased to 3N2I2D.

Eir primary mana cost increased to 3N.

Chromas Interactive Tutorial is Now Live!

It was only yesterday when we shared the information about the overhaul coming to Chromas new player experience. It was in that update that we also shared the information that Chroma would not be receiving an in-game tutorial.

So, you may be surprised to hear that an in-game interactive tutorial is now live in Chroma: Bloom & Blight!

What changed?

To be clear, an in-game tutorial is something we always wanted to bring to the game. We are a very small team and balancing what Chroma needed to launch didnt bring about any easy decisions. Clearly, the play to learn approach we took was not what some players enjoy when starting their Chroma journey.

Since the games release, we have been working around the clock to build a tutorial. This wasnt an easy task, but we realised it was an important one based on your feedback. Were incredibly proud of what the team has been able to achieve in only a matter of days, and we hope the tutorial helps you find your feet when stepping into the world of Chroma for the first time.

The tutorial can be found under the play tab on the main screen. The tailored match will take you through a full game of Chroma, breaking down key interactions and gameplay mechanics, equipping you with everything you need to become an experienced adventurer in the world of Arholt.

Development on UI adjustments and some quality of life requests will now continue, as well as work on Chromas draft mode, which well have more information on soon.

If you didnt enjoy your initial experience as a new player in Chroma, then we hope the tutorial can help to ease you into the game.

Once again, thank you for your support.

The Chroma Team

Improved the optimization.
Immediate plans
Add tutorial 2.

Add Chinese translation.

Improve feedback and responsiveness of main menu UI.

Chroma's New Player Experiences is Being Reworked

As you know, Chroma: Bloom and Blight released yesterday and weve been blown away by your support for the game. As of writing this, over 7000 of you have downloaded Chroma, a number we dreamed of hitting in the opening month, not the opening 20 hours!

One of the most important parts of any game release is the feedback from the community, and trust us when we say weve been listening.

There has been a lot of feedback towards the new player experience, more specifically the lack of a tutorial. Before we go into the rework of the new player experience, we wanted to answer the question weve been asked a lot, whys there no tutorial?

The short answer here is lack of time. We are a very small development team, and with development resources running tight we had to release the game. A tutorial was something we spoke a lot about, but committing development to a tutorial would have put the games development behind in other areas. We opted to go for a play to learn approach with the learn tab, which wasnt well-received by many players, so were re-adjusting it.

You deserve to understand Chroma...so were going to teach you!

Let us start by saying this is not going to be a fully interactive tutorial, currently there are no plans to bring an interactive tutorial to the game. However, we agree with your feedback and the learn tab is a little underwhelming and deserves to be a lot more.

This is our primary focus right now. The current learn tab will be replaced with a much more in-depth tutorial, acting like a more traditional rule book. This will work on a three-tier system; a completely new player section, advanced mechanics section, and expert tips section. There will also be a video accompanying the new tutorial tab, this will bring some visual clarification to the in-depth tutorial text.

What else were working on

As we mentioned above, the launch of Chroma brought about a lot of community feedback. Another area that was highlighted was the overall UI.

We are not completely overhauling the in-game UI, but there have been some excellent suggestions which we are working on. The development of the in-game UI isnt something that can or will change overnight, but its something we will be looking at over time to ensure the best player experience, for both new and experienced players.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us for an adventure in Arholt. Whether you just dipped your toes in or havent stopped playing since launch, we cant thank you enough for your support.

Many thanks,

Clarity Games

Chroma: Bloom and Blight is now available

Chroma has officially been released!

Since starting development on Chroma: Bloom and Blight 18 months ago I think all of us (developers) have been through just about every emotion possible. So, its with great delight that I can finally say these words...you can play Chroma now!

Where to start?

As you know, all cards in Chroma are free and available to you the moment the game opens. This can make learning Chroma a little overwhelming, so, where do you start?

There's a learn tab at the top of the home screen. This tab is not a strict tutorial (we couldnt bring it upon ourselves to force you through another card game tutorial), instead, it will explain the basics of the games mechanics and in-game UI.

Once youve read through the learn tab we recommend you jump into some bot matches or casual matches with the starter decks. The mono-color starters are slightly easier to pilot over the duo-color decks. The starter decks in Chroma are built with full synergy in-mind, with none of the cards being locked behind a paywall, we had free reign on how to build the starter experience.

So, you like a good story do you!

Were really happy to let you know the lore section of Chroma is now live. This high-res interactive map of Arholt offers immersive details about the story-rich world of Chroma. From individual cards to powerful heroes, you can even read about the cultures of each location within the lore map.

If you love losing yourself in a fantasy land then the lore tab is something you do not want to miss.

Whats next for Chroma?

It goes without saying, the launch of Chroma is just the beginning.

When finding a match youll notice a draft tab. Unfortunately, this mode wasnt ready for launch, but we hope to have it in the game soon. This will be an arena-style game mode where you can build a deck from a limited selection of cards.

Were also very keen to keep the Chroma competitive scene fed with more competitive tournaments. Weve already hosted a pre-release tournament, which saw over 100 players competing for a stake of the $700 cash prize pool.

We will have more information on competitive events soon. The best place to keep up-to-date with these competitive events is in the Chroma: Bloom and Blight Discord.

One last thing...Thank you

Finally, it goes without saying that we owe all of you a huge thank you. The support we have received throughout the development of Chroma has been incredible. Connecting with the growing community on social media and Discord has been one of the pleasures of the past 18 months, and we cant wait for our relationship with the Chroma community to grow over time.

It makes us so happy that you can now experience Chroma for yourselves, we hope you enjoy your time exploring Arholt and its many mysteries.

Many thanks,

Clarity Games

Chroma: Bloom and Blight is releasing on the 28th January

The past 18 months have been a true rollercoaster ride for Chroma, from penciled ideas to an overwhelming Kickstarter campaign. So, it's with great excitement that we can confirm Chroma will release on Steam on Thursday 28th January.

As you'll know, Chroma will release with all cards unlocked and available to all players. This 'truly free-to-play' approach isn't just for the launch of the game, but is the case for all future expansions - not a single card pack can be found in Chroma.

We are currently working hard to ensure you are offered a deep and diverse experience at launch, here's what you can expect on day one:

-Casual and Ranked matchmaking (Bo1 & Bo3 (with sideboard))
-In-depth tutorial to understand the core mechanics of Chroma
-240 cards representing 4 diverse factions
-22 Heroes, all bringing their own powerful abilities to the story
-Private matchmaking
-In-game spectate mode

The launch is only the beginning of Chroma's story. We are already working on post-launch content for the game, including in-game events, expansions, and extended lore.

We are so excited for you to explore the lands on Arholt on the 28th of January. The development of Chroma has been a true team effort, not just with the developers but with our community. The dream of making Chroma a reality wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the incredible support shown towards the game over the past 18 months. So from everyone at Clarity Games, thank you.

To keep up to date with all events and news leading up to the launch of Chroma make sure you wishlist Chroma.

Many thanks,

Clarity Games
