v1.030 of Villagers available!

Dear friends and players of Villagers.

We are so incredibly thrilled by the beautiful villages you have created in the game. Some of the towns we have seen in the savegames youve sent us and also in the screenshots on Steam, go way beyond our imagination! City-planning genius and beautifully laid out villages, all lovingly designed - they have been a pleasure to see.
The growing number of town inhabitants has unveiled performance issues for some of you though. Luckily, we have been able to address this problem with todays patch.
There's tons of other improvements coming along and our testing group has already reported that all is running smoothly.

So, here comes the change log:

Optimisations


  • Removed clouds for performance
  • Camera will no longer fly out of bounds while having a dead villager selected.
  • Removed nasty dots in Dialogue-Parchment.
  • Map now always correctly positioned on table
  • Reduced bird count.
  • Merchants will now trade more and with different items.
  • Merchants will now appear more consistently, depending on your Village's overall happiness.
  • Missing stonepit and mine markers were added to some freeplay maps.
  • Resources now have different gold values. Certain resources have a higher value than others.
  • Added new notification under mini-map, that shows current event (acid rain etc).
  • Wells will now fill up gradually 4 times a day instead of once completely on a new day.
  • Capacity of wells has been increased slightly.
  • Growing speed of all crops has been slightly reduced.
  • General performance improvements that should give you a minimum of 5 fps more.
  • Villagers will now only be unhappy about not getting any water once a day (was triggering every frame).
  • Starvation and thirst of villagers will now be saved (was reset on every load).
  • Added a new notification message once a villager becomes weak, showing his last profession. Also: Death notification will now only be shown, if the Villager died before becoming weak.
  • Barn disease will now only kill half of the animals in the barn (was killing all animals in the barn).
  • Some localisation updates (especially in barn)
  • Weak villagers & babies will now also be listed in the townhall window.
  • Maximum age of villagers is now shown in their window.
  • "Fulfilling duties" message in Villagers windows will no longer show for idle villagers.
  • Fixed performance issue occurring in games without natural water source (chapter 3 map or Big Boy map)
  • Optimized showing of scrollbar in windows - also positioning of content should now be better.
  • Added scrollbar to barn window's outside animals list.


Bugfixes

  • Fixed bug that prevented any work of Villagers who needed to get food/water but can't get any.
  • Fixed bug in farmers that led to unharvestable crops.
  • Villagers professions before dying or becoming weak will now correctly be shown after loading a save-game.
  • A bug with sea merchants has been fixed - they should appear consistently now.
  • Fixed performance issues and several small bugs in the sound system.
  • Fixed a bug that was leading to several issues with weak villagers.
  • Chapter 2: Fixed the day count in "prepare for winter" quest that was glitchy at the beginning.
  • Balanced crop growing speed; they will now grow slightly slower.
  • Fixed a bug that was leading to false marriages on game load
  • Fixed bug that was leading to errors when trading with merchants that were already gone (trade window was not updated).
  • While placing a building, neither outlines nor influence area of buildings below will be shown
  • Removed unreachable resources in map 3 and map 5.
  • Fixed pathfinding bug leading to all villagers just standing around until reload.
  • V-Sync option has been fixed.

It's such a pleasure to see you guys enjoy Villagers. We want to say thank you for all the friendly feedback we have received in the last weeks since its launch. You have brought up some wonderful ideas for upcoming freeplay maps and great input regarding the overall game.

As it seems, about 30 players have already managed to get a population of more than 100 - that is incredible! Don't forget to participate in our sweepstake to win a personalised beer tankard!

Thanks to your feedback and support, we are now able to hand you another update, named v1.020. While coming with some neat improvements, it should also fix the last bugs reported.

Enhancements:


  • added birds to the scenery
  • Stonepit- and Minemarkers are now clickable and show the resources available
  • Right clicking a building icon now takes you to the building
  • increased pregnancy chances
  • increased maximum age to ~43
  • improved display and selection of consumed goods in townhall
  • optimized display of job-assignment in townhall
  • priest will now always prioritize doing a mass in the church before praying for a dead villager (should prevent faulty behaviour of always praying for a dead villager and never doing a mass again)
  • graphical setting now default "Recommended"
  • Shortened the introtexts a little
  • Some text-improvements in german chapter 1
  • added a loadinghint for "right-clicking a building"
  • implemented a fallback to check whether the GameData still exists. Shows popup now on startup, when the GameData was removed but the rest (config etc) not


Bugfixes:


  • fixed issues with the merchant: will no longer not disappear in rare cases; will now always remove the booth graphic once left
  • fixed mix up of ambient sound in freeplay for coast and forest
  • fixed environment ID of new island map -> coast textures will now be shown
  • fixed some issues with dead villagers never disappearing. Also improved the behaviour of villagers going to their graves (will no longer move while still lying on the ground)
  • fixed issue with the load game button not opening the load game window
  • fixed: pregnant womens will now always give birth, even if it is not night anymore (should prevent "preganant, day until birth: - 20" message)
  • fixed: soldier assignment through townhall while having an extended townhall and a guardhouse was not working properly
  • fixed: getting tools or medicine was sometimes crashing the game after the medicine overhaul
  • fixed: freeplay map 4 and 5 will now have the correct textures shown (changed their environment ids in config.ini and re-build the .vmp)
  • when skipping dialogues in campaign, speed will now reset properly (was only happening when not skipping, but normally going through the dialogues)
  • fixed bug in priest leading to game breaking bug
  • trees marked as unreachable are now correctly marked as reachable if being reachable.
  • Illness of Villagers is now correctly saved
  • Bridge helpbox now showing during build instead of afterwards
  • Children without parents and home will idle now
  • Villagers will not get unhappy instantly if without food

Thank you for all your supportive reviews and personal emails stating your love for the game, a huge motivation for the whole team!
As some of your feedback included a request for more freeplay maps, we are extremely happy to announce an update today that includes 2 great new maps along with some other enhancements of the Villagers game:

CONTENT:


  • Added 2 new big Freeplay maps: The mountain map "Big Boy" and "Islandhopping".


IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Added an animated indicator to show consumed resources and created resources.
  • Buildings can now be removed if you want to. You can find the button in the building's window. The windows for raincatchers and wells have also been updated.
  • Villagers will now fall in love more randomly, not just when they find space in a house.
  • If houses with free capacity are available, Villagers will sleep in those and not in front of the townhall. However, Villagers without a partner will still be sad every night and want to find one!
  • Tree stumps will now disappear after a while.
  • New names have been added. Have a look out for Wayne!
  • Villagers will now be unhappy if they don't have a chapel or church to visit.
  • A notice has been added to inform about 'SHIFT + scroll' to zoom while placing a building.
  • Notification bar at bottom right is now smaller when opened.
  • The zoom-out when placing a building has been reduced.
  • Multiple fields can now be SHIFT placed (holding SHIFT, while placing).
  • When placing or upgrading a building, near resources or stored resources will now be added instantly to the building.


BUGFIXES:

  • We fixed a bunch of issues with the campaign. If you were stuck in a chapter, please retry your savegame. If you still experience problems and can't progress in the campaign, don't hesitate to contact us!
  • Villagers will no longer just stand beside an attacking animal and wait to be killed by it.
  • The statistic about villagers without tools will now only contain adult villagers that actually work.
  • Further improvements to keep Villagers from getting stuck and children from starving to death have been made.
  • Fixed the occurrence of infinite loading screens on rare occasions when "reloading" a map.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing issues when cancelling a building.
  • Pathfinding has been improved, fixing several small issues including not working/lazy Villagers.
  • Houses will now save their stored food when extending or removing.
  • Unfinished buildings will now show their correct building progress after the load of a save-game.
  • Tool-tips would not disappear on rare occasions. This is now fixed.
  • Farmers will no longer move around the field, but actually work and walk on the fields.
  • Pharmacies will now save their stored medicine count.
  • Fixed an issue where buildings would be highlighted, when SHIFT placing multiple buildings.
  • In some occasions, the campaign progress was not saved between game sessions. This should be fixed now.


BALANCING:

  • Shepherds will now bring more food to the barn.
  • Barn animals will now reproduce as quickly as described in the window.
  • Warehousers will now balance correctly between dedicated storage facilities and the townhall storage, when assigning through the townhall or loading a savegame.
  • Animal population in freeplay has been increased.
  • Villagers will live a little longer (~40), be less weak and reproduce faster.

  • Villagers will no longer just stand beside an attacking animal and wait to be killed by it.
  • The statistic about villagers without tools will now only contain adult villagers that actually work.
  • Further improvements to keep Villagers from getting stuck and children from starving to death have been made.
  • Fixed the occurrence of infinite loading screens on rare occasions when "reloading" a map.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing issues when cancelling a building.
  • Pathfinding has been improved, fixing several small issues including not working/lazy Villagers.
  • Houses will now save their stored food when extending or removing.
  • Unfinished buildings will now show their correct building progress after the load of a save-game.
  • Tool-tips would not disappear on rare occasions. This is now fixed.
  • Farmers will no longer move around the field, but actually work and walk on the fields.
  • Pharmacies will now save their stored medicine count.
  • Fixed an issue where buildings would be highlighted, when SHIFT placing multiple buildings.
  • In some occasions, the campaign progress was not saved between game sessions. This should be fixed now.


BALANCING:

  • Shepherds will now bring more food to the barn.
  • Barn animals will now reproduce as quickly as described in the window.
  • Warehousers will now balance correctly between dedicated storage facilities and the townhall storage, when assigning through the townhall or loading a savegame.
  • Animal population in freeplay has been increased.
  • Villagers will live a little longer (~40), be less weak and reproduce faster.

v1.005 of Villagers available

Dear friends and players of Villagers.

Thank you for making the launch of our new game so successful! With 2 years of passionate work developing Villagers, it's a delight to see such a strong and positive interest in the game.

Unfortunately, some of you have experienced bugs in the release version (v1.004) that we were not able to find prior to launch. Thank you for sending in your savegames and log files - as a result of your friendly support we have managed to track and fix some important bugs. We are working through the latest reports to include more fixes, along with feature and content updates. We will continue to release these over the coming weeks and months and want to assure all players that this is not the end of the development process. Villagers is very much an evolving project and we plan to enhance and expand it continuously in the future.

Changelog of v1.005

BUGFIXES:
- Millers will now find grain from storages.
- Profession of dead and aged Villagers will now be shown after the name in parenthesis.
- Raincatchers can now be built at the very beginning of chapter 4 without affecting the completion of the tasks.
- Some problems with the warehouser have been fixed.
- The farm, fields and farmers will now work as they should. Those lazy bastards!
- Farmers will no longer plant crops outside of the field bounds.
- Villagers will no longer be in fear of moving in certain houses. But Villagers without partners will still only move into houses once they find a partner.
- Pregnant Villagers will no longer have late deliveries, ergo no "Pregnancy! -3 days" messages will be shown anymore.
- Villagers have more fun in the bedroom now. Reproduction should be increased.

- Babies will no longer die of mysterious reasons.
- In rare cases, old Villagers died when loading a savegame. This is now fixed.

- In rare cases, the warehousers were stealing items right out of the hands of other Villagers. We stopped this trickery!
- Barn animals will now start reproducing with the first animal. This should be less confusing.
- Chapter 4: Raincatcher problems and soldier problems should be fixed.
- Chapter 2: Bugs keeping some players from progressing should be fixed.
- Merchants will now keep coming. The big ogre keeping the merchants from visiting your town has been removed.
- Achievements will now trigger when playing on the same machine with multiple accounts.
- The barn balancing has been improved. You'll love the chickens again!
- Added V-Sync toggle to the graphics options.
- Children following their parents should no longer starve to death.
- Removing fields will now work as intended and existing crops will now be removed as well.
- Changed the field's "harvest prematurely" button to a progression indicator. The button had no meaning in the current version of the game.
- Fixed localization of some texts in the barn window.

As we are currently working on several additional freeplay maps, we'd like to offer you the chance to add your personal touch to the game. I have just opened up a "Freeplay-Maps" sub board in which you can submit your personal ideas, suggestions and challenges for more maps to come.
We'll browse through that board and will pick up your ideas for use in the game.

Villagers released on Steam!

Today, after two years of dedicated and passionate development by our team, we are finally able to release our baby, Villagers, into the wild. Thanks to the feedback of our closed-beta-players and Let's Players, we have been able to upgrade the game to a v1.004, including some fixes and improvements.
If you enjoyed playing it, please feel very invited to leave a review - if you didn't, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us here on the boards and let us know what we could do to improve your playing experience.
We are currently working on some additional freeplay maps and even some neat new features that we will be adding to the game within the next weeks in several free updates, so stay tuned for more fun to come along.

Beta Patch #2

As you may have already seen, there has been an update to the game. Some of you have reported crashes and empty houses. We fixed these two major bugs and further improved the game.

Villagers is coming to PC, Mac & Linux on the 25th of March. Don't miss out, put Villagers on your wishlist now!

Read the full list of fixes and improvements:


  • Fixed several issues that lead to the game freezing/crashing.
  • Villagers will no longer be in fear of moving into empty houses.
  • Fixed an issue where raiders that successfully stole resources led to corrupted save-games.
  • Beer bought from merchants was not used in taverns, this is now fixed.
  • Merchants who are leaving your village can no longer be traded with.
  • Villagers that die because of their age will no longer break the game.
  • Moving forwards and backwards are now re-bindable in the options menu.
  • Fixed focusing of the game window in Windows.
  • Time speed-up now has steps of 1x, 2x, 5x & 10x.
  • The proud owners of Logitech G-Series keyboards will see magic on their LCD screens now.
  • Upgrading a building will no longer freeze the camera zoom.
  • Added first German spoken dialogue. Later, all dialogues will have German voice over.
  • Fixed an issue with the rain sound.

The very first patch notes

We have just released the first patch for all participants of the Villagers Beta. This patch focuses on fixing the Barn and its profession, the Shepherd.

Villagers is coming to PC, Mac & Linux on the 25th of March. Don't miss out, put Villagers on your wishlist now!

Read the full list of fixes and improvements:


  • Fixed an issue where villagers would not move into houses, if the preceding inhabitants died.
  • Fixed re-spawning of starting villagers, when canceling and re-placing the townhall.
  • Added a "No Workers Assigned" message to the window of building sites, to alert players that they need to have at least one villager in the "Worker" profession.
  • Fixed an issue where the outline of clickable objects would not disappear.
  • Added new music tracks to freeplay. Also: Improved sound environment in the main menu; soundtrack will now shuffle-play in main menu.
  • Generally improved balancing of sound levels.
  • Fixed unreachable resources (trees, stones), especially on the mountain map (chapter 3).
  • Fixed several issues with the stork. It should reliably fly in the babies now.
  • Fixed several issues while loading a level: Music won't restart anymore and loading hints won't change so quickly anymore.
  • Improved the falling animation of trees when gathering for wood.
  • Added snow and rain particle effects.
  • Fixed several issues with the barn. Also: Animals will now actually be visible at their assigned spots in the barn.
  • Fixed a bug that led to crashes or skipping of seasons.
  • Fixed raiders in savegames: they were not able to pick up resources.
  • Villagers will now only be unhappy about a raider attack, if they actually steal resources.
  • Fixed an issue, where villagers would not be able to get sick in any savegame.
