Update 1.3.3 is out!

Hi all, dear fans of the game! You may have noticed that since January 16, the game at the launching gave an error and crashed. I deeply apologize for this problem! I'm fixed it and a few more in the new 1.3.3 update, which is already available for download on the site, on Steam, itch, Kartridge, Microsoft Store, SlideME and Amazon App Store! Basically, the new patch fixed a lot of bugs, critical and not so much. Of the particularly unpleasant ones, the controls didn't work in the Xbox One version and cloud saves in BJtH-Online didn't work correctly. In addition, the dialogs on macOS were reworked (now they don't require SDL2), and extension, which involves services BJtH-Online, was rebuilt for Apple Silicon. As a nice little bonus, the level completion screens have been slightly improved and a boss life bar has been added. This is actually the main changes of this update. New 1.3.2 update! (Apple Silicon included)

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since release of The Light Sword Team games. Big Journey to Home has a decade of history, Spectrubes was created as an experiment, ported to Xbox One, and grew into big project Spectrubes Infinity with Steam Workshop support. I remember times of development and releases with great warmth, it was awesome! Thanks to everyone for bringing these games into the world and having you play them (though not as often as I'd like)! Thank you all those who helped with development and supported me! Thank you for your votes on Steam Greenlight when they were so important to release of games on Steam platform! As you know, Apple recently introduced their computers with own processor. I was greatly inspired by this and decided to port games to this wonderful platform. So, new updates are already coming out! Of course, apart from just porting I did some more innovations. Original Spectrubes game remained unchanged and hasn't been ported, but I made a little surprise for the owners of this game too! Now directly to the Big Journey to Home update. The game now supports Apple Silicon processors on macOS and ARM processors on Linux! Unfortunately, there may be problems because other libraries were not recompiled. Hopefully, the game will run stably overall. Next, I finally implemented function to skip any room in the single player game. All you have to do is press F4 while playing the game. Of course, you can't do this without consequences. Skipping adds 2500 moves, and if you choose to skip more than 2 rooms per level, you won't be able to post a highscore and get achievements during it. Try the new feature (just try not to abuse it :P)! I've also optimized saves within a single room. They work faster because they are now written to RAM instead of hard drive. Especially this is noticeable on computers with HDDs and with not powerful smartphones. The game has been added a few small things and some bugs have been fixed. I want to mention separately the removal of BJtH Updater. In the regular version update through the game has been removed, because the game is updated rarely, and mainly update is going through store launchers. Overall, not bad update came out, I think. As usual, a list of all changes is listed at the very end. By the way, version for Xbox One, Linux ARM and update for Android in Amazon App Store may be delayed for a few days. Thanks to everyone who is still playing games from The Light Sword Team! I may surprise you with something new soon, stay tuned! ;) Full changelog:

1.3.1 update is out!

Hi all, dear fans of the game! Today new patch 1.3.1 has been released! Unexpectedly, isn't it? In new update has been added Discord support. Now your friends can see, which level you're exploring on current moment. Also, save system in room has been changed. Now you can save on the scrolls infinite number of times, R button rolls back on one save before. If you press R multiple times, you can return in start of current room. E button is not using for roll back now. Try to use this saves. They're more usable than previous one! In this update also has been fixed a some bugs and added other little improvements. Big update 1.3!

Hi all, dear Big Journey to Home fans! I'm thought a lot after the Xbox One release and decided to make the last update. Last update was released about 3 years ago. And as result, I was worked 20 days with a few new functionality and bug fixing. I'm thought about increasing Xbox One version, and other versions too. I knew that cooperative game mode is not popular and I was added this levels for playing alone. Now you can complete it. New 40 rooms for single player! I named it "Side story", you can change stories from main menu in top right corner. But how it can be played, if you must play with 2 characters? Switching through Tab button, it's simple! By the way, cooperative game is now fully fixed, earlier few rooms causes crashes. Next, I wanted to redesign dialog system. Earlier they are appeared above speaking character and was pretty small. Now they're big and appearing below screen, character name is write before a dialog. It's good choice for small screens! If you don't like this appearance, you can change dialog system in settings. According to your wishes BJtH-Online linking is now optional. In main menu registration window isn't appeared every time, achievements and leaderboards are now working without BJtH-Online registration. Unfortunately, for technical reasons achievements are still requires Internet connection, and if registration in BJtH-Online had complete after getting Steam achievements, they can't be transferred. Last thing that I wanted to make was modify macOS version until fully working state. Now it's fully working! Also, iOS version is built, and the game changed game engine. Now it's GMS2. Unfortunately, game is not working on 32-bit OS Linux and Windows XP. Saves from older versions also may be not work. Game has more new useful functions, but this post is too big, so, as usual, I will show full changelog below. And check this new update trailer. Xbox One release!

Hi all, dear fans of the game! More than three years was passed since release. It's pretty big period, isn't it? Thanks you all, who supported and followed this game! I'm really appreciated this! Recently I've got an idea, how to refresh Big Journey to Home. And now, this version of game has been appeared. Now you can play on game console Xbox One! This version of the game includes only single mode, represented by 12 levels. Level editor, cooperative game and BJtH-Online functions has been removed. But this version has new functionality. Achievement system doesn't removed. Achievements and process are saving inside the game, you can look it in main menu. Gamepad controls has been improved and fixed, Settings menu - fully rewritten, now it's look like this from game Spectrubes. Version of the game is 1.2. If you don't have Xbox One, this version is also working on computer with installed Windows 10. Keyboard and mouse are supporting with "Laptop" configuration. You can buy it only for 2.49$! Try it now! Also, from now you can buy Spectrubes for Xbox One with 50% discount only until 21 December. Hurry up!

Spectrubes Infinity announcement

Hello, dear fans! Today, the 25th of March, Spectrubes turns 2 years old! Thank you for your support! Thanks to you, the game was released on a variety of different platforms, including the XBox One. To celebrate, I have a new announcement to make. I have been away from game development for a while, but decided to return to Spectrubes. I am pleased to introduce you to a new, improved, extended and endless Spectrubes Infinity! This new game moves away from a classic ZX Spectrum look in favour of a modern 1080p Full HD visual style. It includes 50 new levels with new game mechanics, including cubes with even more complex movement patterns. Why is this game called "Infinity"? This is due to the introduction of Steam Workshop support, providing user-made content such as new levels and themes which can change any visual or auditory aspect of the game. If you already have Spectrubes in your Steam library, you will be able to play the original 100 levels and/or use the original visual style in the new engine. Hello, dear fans of the game! A new, unplanned patch (v1.1.1) was released today. We originally intended to release it later, but we found a critical bug in the game that wouldn't allow to pass level 6, room 5. This bug was fixed, along with a few other minor bugs. The full changelog is available below, as usual. I also regret to inform you that the OS X engine issues are still present, so await further updates to fix those. I also would like to inform you that we no longer work with the Desura game distribution system. If you would like to update to 1.1.1, you need to download the older 1.1 version from Desura, and then run the upgrade from the game itself. Besides that, support has ended for all betas that never got a final release, to be specific, on iOS and Windows Phone 8, as well as the Modern Windows 8 app. Also don't forget that the Collection of Builds DLC is coming on March 18th. The games future

Hello, dear fans of the game! The 1.1 update is out, and the games released on Android. On a related note, the Android version of the game is available in a few app stores, including IndieGameStand and Itch.io (which also sell the PC version of the game and Steam/Desura keys, for $4.99), SlideMe and Amazon App Store (for $2.99). What happens next? The plan isnt very bright, due to the games low popularity. The Steam community is very small, there are very few BJtH-Online accounts registered. Therefore, I have no interest to further continue developing the game, or any add-ons and patches for it. The plan for supporting the game is therefore as follows: [olist]

  • After the game engine is updated to resolve the current bugs present on OS X, an update (1.1.1) will be released. It will also fix several minor bugs that we have found after the games release.
  • If any players will submit bug reports, those bugs will be fixed and versions will be bumped in the 1.1.X branch.
  • If the games community will remain small as it is, no future updates will be made. However, in case of notable fan activity, the game may be updated further (including possible DLCs). In this case, we may also add support for Steam Workshop, better dialogue output and finalize the level editor component set.   • After the game engine is updated to resolve the current bugs present on OS X, an update (1.1.1) will be released. It will also fix several minor bugs that we have found after the game’s release.
  • If any players will submit bug reports, those bugs will be fixed and versions will be bumped in the 1.1.X branch.
  • If the game’s community will remain small as it is, no future updates will be made. However, in case of notable fan activity, the game may be updated further (including possible DLCs). In this case, we may also add support for Steam Workshop, better dialogue output and finalize the level editor component set.     1.1 update is out!

    Hooray! This day is finally here! Hello, dear fans and everyone who follows the game! I have finally released the long-overdue game update with the version number of 1.1. Unfortunately, it took over half a year for this update, which, of course, is a long time for a first patch. This update isn’t as massive or global as was initially planned, however, it does include several new interesting functions, such as LAN-based co-op. Besides that, Big Journey to Home is no longer in “beta” status on Android, and will soon appear in various stores (stay tuned for that). It’s possible that this version won’t be the last, as there are other fixes to be made and other features that need to be added. One of the major problems was running the game on OS X, and version 1.1 works on Macs without any issues or necessary external fixes, so people can enjoy the game! You may read about possible problems on the Steam discussion thread. Thanks to everyone supporting the game! Full changelog:

    • The Android and OUYA versions are out of beta
    • The OS X version now launches without issue. Some other features may still be unusable, though.
    • Steam stats were removed, since they were unnecessary and didn’t work correctly.
    • LAN-based co-op was added (no internet connection required).
    • Faster routes were added for some rooms
    • BJtH-Online login has been simplified
    • The news ticker will now update only when the game is updated
    • Tutorial mode is enabled by default on the first start of the game, the question asking about it was removed.
    • Several problems with gamepad controls were fixed
    • Issues with BJtH-Online signup in-game were fixed
    • The issue which prevented the game from starting for some users was fixed
    • The visibility of lava in darker rooms was improved
    • Some critical bugs that prevented you from completing level 4 with special effects enabled were fixed.
    • Steam Cloud import/export was fixed.
    • Glitches with the level start/end screen were fixed.
    • Some cosmetic issues and translation inaccuracies were resolved.

    What happened to the game?

    Hello, dear fans of the game! The game development has stalled for about 4 months, without any updates and news. The problem is basically the lack of interest to keep the development going, as the game hasn't sold well and the community is basically non-existent. I am aware that the problem is, of course, the game itself, but it has disappointed me. After a while I have started developing a new version of the game, 1.1, which solves certain issues with the game and introduces certain new features, such as:

    • Multiplayer via IP-address
    • New fast paths in the most difficult rooms
    • Removal of limits in co-op levels
    • Fixes for certain critical bugs
    Furthermore, the Android verion is no longer considered to be Beta. No further support or updates for the game are planned, apart from critical bugfixes. Since I feel guilty for abandoning the game, I have set a 50% discount for the Steam holiday sale.     Month after release! News!

    Hello, dear fans of the game. After the release I have relaxed somewhat and mostly abandoned the game, however, there is no need for concern. The 1.1 patch will be released soon, and it will include fixes for several bugs, including the problem with starting the game on OS X. Besides that, this update will include:

    • Removal of Steam leaderboards (which never worked anyway)
    • Steam Workshop support
    • Support for co-op over direct IP connection
    I may also remove the mandatory link between a Steam account and a BJtH-account, if it is possible. Unfortunately, I will not support the game a whole lot after the patch is released, because the game is not very popular. However, everything depends on you! Apart from the patch, we will be also releasing an Android version of the game, which will most likely be available from Google Play. The patch will be released around October 10. One more thing: the game price has decreased to $8, and it will cost $4 during the upcoming sale on October 20. Thank you for staying with us, dear fans!     You play as Jake, a simple guy who accidently got into trouble. What will happen to him, how he will behave, will he get home or not, all that depends on you. You will encounter a variety of creatures along your way, from roaches to huge scorpions, lizards and even small hamsters! Apart from living beings, you will see a variety of complex mechanisms. To overcome snow, forests, deserts and underground areas, you will require a good weapon. Though you already have that - a well-sharpened blade that will slice (almost) every monster.
    The game requires you to plan every step, so that monsters won't have you for dinner. However, if you stand still, the monsters won't touch you. The "Hardcore" mode won't let you sleep, though, it will require your full attention.
    If a friend of yours keeps bothering you, you can play a separate story about Jake and his brother together. You can walk through the same far-away places and see the same monsters, however, they will behave differently. If your friend gets lost, you will be able to show him where to go using the built-in chat and marker.
    The game has an achievement system - try to unlock them all! If you want to stay in this unusual world, you can extend the fun with usermade levels that people just like you can build. Thanks to the convenient level download system, you won't be leaving the game for a long time.

    The game was developed for the duration of five years, gradually improving. Different people contributed to the game and the development team changed over time. Some people worked on level design, some others did art. As of right now, the game has only one developer left: Vyacheslav "Silver Sword" Mironov. I have started this game and I have led it to its release.
