Disputed Space is now available for Mac and Linux in addition to Windows. Experience epic space battles while piloting a small, fast fighter ship as part of a fleet that lashes out against enemy factions.
I posted Build 20190130 of Disputed Space. This build improves the main menu by fixing a bug where multiple items would get highlighted simultaneously by the mouse.
First, I want to thank everybody who supported Disputed Space and provided excellent feedback to help me improve Disputed Space. Thank you everybody! I have been busy working on a new space game, called Allspace, which is available for free on Steam. Allspace is a 100 player networked multiplayer game. Allspace is built on top of the tech I developed for Disputed Space, so it scales well and runs smooth. The gameplay is different, though. While Disputed Space was designed to feel like Descent, Allspace is designed to feel more like Freespace. And while Disputed Space was single player with optional 4 player local co-op mode, Allspace is purely online multiplayer. Allspace supports 100 players per game server instance. I developed a very light weight and highly performant networking solution from scratch specifically for Allspace to support 100 players and thousands of lasers. Here is a YouTube video of Allspace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g32NtGQupM Steam page for Allspace: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1000860/Allspace/ Right now, Allspace is a solo deathmatch experience with 100 players dogfighting. Eventually, Allspace will include a team-based game mode that combines ideas from Unreal Tournament 2004s Onslaught game mode with some capture the flag elements. Frigates, Destroyers, and Capital ships would be spawned instead of trucks and tanks when a team secures a node. The main goal is to design a team game mode that encourages an intense epic space battle. Instead of using AI to automatically operate the large ships, players will take command of the large ships in Allspace. Details of the team-based game mode I have planned for Allspace: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1000860/discussions/0/1743357605565898040/ Roadmap for the Allspace project: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1000860/discussions/0/1743357605565930517/ My main goal right now is to get feedback from people playing Allspace, and then use that feedback to improve Allspace. I hope you enjoy Allspace, and I look forward to seeing everybody in game. Thanks, Shiloh
The DX12 support in Build 20180619 of Disputed Space was causing some strange new bugs for users when launching from Steam, so I temporarily removed DX12 support. This appears to have fixed the new bugs introduced in Build 20180619.
I posted Build 20180619 of Disputed Space. This build includes the following improvements: 1) Improved joystick support for certain Microsoft Sidewinder joysticks. 2) Added DirectX12 support. 3) Added some minor performance improvements and other bug fixes.
I posted Build 20180329 of Disputed Space. This build includes the following improvements: 1) Improved the way all of the player sounds (like lasers and other weapons) are handled. Previously, the player sounds would sometimes interrupt themselves, especially at high rates of fire. Now the player sounds are pooled to avoid that previous issue. Overall, player weapons sound a lot better now. 2) Added more dust particles to make it easier for players to see that they are moving.

I posted Build 20180204 of Disputed Space. This build increases the performance of the game, especially on older PC hardware. This should address the issue some users had reported on Level 6. Enjoy.

I posted Build 20171222 of Disputed Space. This build increases the number of simultaneous joysticks supported. Previously, each player could have up to 12 joysticks. Now that limit is 100 joysticks per player. Enjoy.

I posted Build 20171213 of Disputed Space. This build includes an all new Control Customization screen, which can be access from both the Main Menu and the Pause Menu. Players can now customize keyboard, mouse, game controller, and joystick configurations. Players can also manually manage device assignments on a per player basis (such as selecting which local player gets each joystick). I removed the previous options for "Assign Joysticks" and "Control Scheme", because those are all controlled now in the Control Customization screen. Similarly, the mouse sensitivity setting has been moved into the Control Customization screen. In addition to that, I also tweaked the power-ups to make them easier for players to pick up and made a few minor performance tweaks.

After nearly four years in development, Disputed Space is now officially moving from Early Access to Full Release on Steam! Disputed Space is a fast-paced arcade action game that plays like Descent or Overload, but in outer space instead of inside a mine. Players pilot a small fighter ship that can fly in any direction (including backwards) while blasting enemy ships with lasers and missiles.

I posted Early Access Build 20171201 of Disputed Space. This build includes a minor tweak to the Main Menu for mouse users. The mouse now hides after 15 seconds instead of 2 seconds.

I posted Early Access Build 20171128 of Disputed Space. This build includes a minor fix for the Powerup and Drop system. Player powerups are now properly reset to default when the player returns to the Main Menu.

I posted Early Access Build 20171121 of Disputed Space. This build includes a Powerup and Drop system. Players can now pick up powerups to unlock weapons, increase weapon firing rate, charge shields, and dramatically increase the speed of the ship. The Powerups have colored shields around them for easy identification. Green - Engine Boost Red - Primary Weapon Unlock and Weapon Boost Blue - Shield Orange - Secondary Weapon Ammo (such as homing missiles and torpedos) I did not implement an ammo limit yet for the secondary weapons, so the orange powerups are not useful yet. The Engine and Primary Weapons each have 10 power levels. When the player's ship is destroyed, all of the collected powerups are dropped back into the scene. In addition to the new Powerup system, this build also includes showing the level number on the warp screen between levels and it includes improvements to reduce the time needed at the beginning of levels so the player can get back into the action quicker.

I posted Early Access Build 20171024 of Disputed Space. This build includes improved HOTAS joystick support. I added a new menu at Menu->Options->Controls->Advanced->AssignJoysticks. The "Assign Joysticks" option lets players distribute joysticks to four local players (default setting for split screen multiplayer support) or to give all of the joysticks to a single player. The new option to give all joysticks to a single player disables the local multiplayer support and gives every joystick to a single player. This option is useful if you have a HOTAS joystick that uses multiple USB plugs (such as one of the joystick and one for the throttle). In addition to that, this build includes a fix to a bug that was preventing some HOTAS joysticks from working in the most recent builds. If you have a HOTAS joystick, try using it with Disputed Space and let me know in the Steam Discussion section how well it works for you. Also, try running your HOTAS joystick with the "Flight Simulator" Control Scheme for best results.
I posted Early Access Build 2017102 of Disputed Space. This build includes a Mouse Sensitivity slider on Menu->Options->Controls->Mouse.
I posted Early Access Build 20171019 of Disputed Space. This build includes the following improvements: 1) Tweaked the projectile speeds in Arcade Hard mode. 2) Improved Target Lead Indicator to be more precise for all primary weapons instead of just an estimate. The exact amount of target leading will now change when you cycle your primary weapon based on the exact speed of that weapon. 3) Fixed a bug in the Target Lead Indicator in Arcade Hard mode. Previously, the target lead in Arcade Hard mode was suggesting too much leading.
I posted Early Access Build 20171018 of Disputed Space. This build includes the following improvements in the menu: 1) Added Advanced Video page with option to let players set their max framerate. This is helpful for players with high end systems (Intel i7 with GTX 1080), because now they can limit the framerate to reduce load on graphics card. Default Max FPS is 300. 2) Added Advanced Control page and relocated "Control Scheme" to a submenu under that. Control Schemes have been renamed and details are included on the Control Schemes page to make the differences more clear for players. The Control Schemes are now called "Action" and "Flight Simulator" instead of "Arcade" and "Simulator".
I posted Early Access Build 20170924 of Disputed Space. This build includes an improved game controller default configuration. Now the left trigger is for moving forward, left bumper for moving backwards, right trigger for firing primary weapons, and right bumper for launching secondary weapon.
I posted Early Access Build 20170924 of Disputed Space. This build includes the following improvements: 1) More missile and torpedo launchers for fighters, bombers, and capital ships in each faction. 2) Increased the delay between torpedo shots from player to reduce torpedo spamming.
I posted Early Access Build 20170911 of Disputed Space. This build includes improved explosions for the friendly capital ships.
I posted Early Access Build 20170908 of Disputed Space. This build includes two improvements: 1) Fixed an audio problem where sometimes the music would cutout during heavy battles on certain computer hardware. Now music should continue to play normally on all audio hardware during heavy battles. 2) Added damage visualizations to the friendly capital ships. This includes smoke, sparks, and fires similar to the visualizations on the enemy capital ships as they take damage.
