Introducing a big shakeup on the streets of White Spire as new heroes and old friends/enemies/frenemies join the fray. We've got a lot in store for you this update, everything from a big roster shakeup to new alliances, items, and even a new way to play Standard matches. We've also compressed ranks downward, it's time to show off what you can do with the new lineup! And don't worry Lords, though you may be (temporarily?) Dethroned, we've given you a little keepsake (it will unlock soon after the rank reset).
Note that this is a compatibility-breaking update, so until you download the new client on your mobile device you'll only be matched with other users running the old version too.
Hey everyone,
As you may have noticed, Underlords updates have been coming slower as of late. There are a bunch of reasons for this. Some of them are internal (many of us have been helping other recent Valve projects ship), some of them are external (2020 everybody).
So what will you be seeing soon? In the next few weeks you can expect a hero rotation bringing with it 8 new heroes, old friends, new alliances, and new items as well as a rank reset. See below for a sneak peek!
See you in White Spire!
This update is available now on PC and Android; iOS devices can take advantage of the new gameplay by playing multiplayer games until the iOS update deploys.
Good evening! (or morning, or... whatever)
In addition to our regular bug fixes, balance patches, and more three star unit updates, today we are introducing The Early Bird weekly newspaper.
The Early Bird is a weekly paper that contains the latest news from White Spire, new challenges to complete, and more. Complete the weekly Puzzle, Streetfight, and Objective to unlock the weekly reward! The Early Bird feature is available to players who have unlocked the Battle Pass. Enjoy this week's issue, and see you in White Spire!
This update will roll out to mobile devices as it is approved.
NOTE: Some of these changes have already rolled out over the previous few days.
Hello! In 5 days, Dota Underlords is coming out of Early Access and shipping Season 1. Ahead of the big release we wanted to share a few things about whats coming.
Hello White Spire! We have someone to introduce - but before we get to that, a couple words.
As mentioned a few weeks ago, this will be our last major update before we come out of Early Access and ship Season 1. The team is now heads down adding features, creating content, and polishing UI. With Season 1, Underlords will introduce new content with City Crawl, new rewards with a full Battlepass, and a new meta with a Hero / Item rotation.
Oh, and we have a date - Dota Underlords Season 1 is shipping February 25th. Also, keep an eye out for February's PC Gamer. They're running a cover story on the upcoming Underlords release and will have more information about Season 1 (as well as some behind the scenes info about the game's development).
Apart from that, things will be pretty quiet on the update front until we ship. We'll be sharing more about Season 1 in the coming weeks though, so stay tuned.
And now, we'd like you to meet our little friend:
Hello Underlords, happy new year! Before we get to today's Update, some words: New year, new you, and coming soon new season. Thats right, the Beta Season is nearing its end, and Underlords Season 1 will ship by the end of February. In addition to our standard bug / balance patches, well probably have one more update before the big ship date - one more Underlord to round the game out. Otherwise the team will be heads down working on Season 1. This includes work on the Battlepass, City Crawl, Hero / Item rotation, and UI updates. Weve said it before, but we want to thank you all again for playing with us during this beta / early access period. The communitys support and feedback has been invaluable to getting the game to where it is. Were in the home stretch and are excited to ship Underlords 1.0 soon - and get the word out to a wider audience. And now, this week's update:
NOTE: Please quit (force-close on mobile) your clients and restart them to receive this update.
NOTE: This patch is live on PC and on servers now, but will roll out to Android and iOS clients once approved. If you're playing multiplayer games, or proto-pass bot games, you'll get the new balance changes even with an old client.
Happy Holidays Underlords! Some big changes and updates for you all today - we're introducing a new Underlord, bringing in a new rotation of items, and making some significant gameplay changes. There is a bunch to cover, so let's get into it. As always, if you prefer your updates in bullet point form, go check out the patch notes.
We are updating Underlords today with the Outlanders, a new Alliance, a speedy game mode, a new new player experience, and a partridge in a pear tree. If you'd like to see the pretty version of these update notes, check out our sparkly Outlanders website. Lets get started, shall we?
Hello! The day has finally arrived and The Big Update is here. Theres a bunch of stuff to get through and this post will just be covering the highlights. If youre the type of person who likes to know all the nitty gritty details, you can check out the patch notes here. Without further ado, heres whats new in The Big Update.
With The Big Update, Underlords takes a large step forward as we move closer to the end of the Beta Season and the beginning of Season 1. So what is included in the appropriately named Big Update? We're so glad you asked...
Hello friends, we are back again for one more installment of The Big Update Preview Series. Today we will be introducing Anessix, the Mistress of Secrets the other Underlord who will be joining us as part of the Big Update.
Anessix summons a demon companion to attack her enemies on her behalf. After all, why do the dirty work yourself when you can just command a sidekick to do it for you? That said, shes no mere bystander Anessix also casts healing buffs for her crew and curses her opponents.
Like Hobgen, Anessix comes with her own set of unique talents. They can make her companion beefier, buffs buffier, and curses cursier.
And thats it for today.
But no more updates though.
Because were shipping as soon as we get the green light on all platforms.
See you in White Spire!
Were in the home stretch now. Today were covering Underlords and revealing one of the first Underlords to hit the streets of White Spire.
After months of watching the beta season from the sidelines, the Underlords are finally ready to join the battle. They fight alongside their crew, and each Underlord brings their own unique set of perks and abilities to support the team.
The first Underlord were introducing is Hobgen, a fairy who also happens to be an arsonist. He likes to get in the thick of it with his crew lobbing firebombs at his enemies and lighting his teammates on fire (its a good thing, in this case).
Thats it for today, see you tomorrow!
Today we'll be taking a look at 2 new modes that are part of The Big Update.
First off, Duos. Find a partner, party up and battle against 7 other gangs.
Also part of The Big Update is Freestyle Mode.
In this mode you have full control of the board, and can create any scenario you can think of. Use it to explore army compositions, or test new hypotheses. You can then share your design with friends and the community.
We still have a few more days of previews, so come back tomorrow for more!
Today we'd like to wrap up the Hero previews by showing you the faces of the last 2 Heroes that are part of The Big Update.

The Big Update is shipping soon, and we cant help but start to talk about it. There are many pieces to this update (hence the name) and well be sharing new details daily until release.
At a high level, The Big Update marks the beginning of the end of the Underlords Beta. Weve been constantly learning and experimenting over the last few months, and with this update we are polishing away a big chunk of Beta, getting us even closer to Version 1.0.
We'd like to start our previews by showcasing Heroes and Alliances that make part of the new roster. Let's get started!
Introducing the Healer Alliance and Dazzle:
The Insects Alliance is also here ready to bug your opponents, with 3 new heroes Weaver, Nyx Assassin and Broodmother:
We'll continue our showcase of new heroes and alliances tomorrow with Part Two, see ya then.
NOTE: This is our last update before the Big Update. Next week you won't get a new update, but in exchange--if all goes well--we'll start showcasing each of the new features you'll find in the Big Update as we approach release day. See you then!
We have updated our servers with the following changes. NOTE: Tooltips on mobile platforms will not reflect the changes until the build is updated.
As you've probably noticed, today's update is pretty small. Let's chat about why this is and what's coming.
Last time we talked about our plans, we detailed the features we are working on for our next big update.
Internally, we are calling that update The Big Update (surprise), and it's one of the last milestones on our road to Season One. This update will include 2 playable Underlords, the Duos team mode, 6 new Heroes, 3 new Alliances, and an updated user interface. We're currently shooting to release this update in the first half of October.
The final stop will come not long after, with the official launch of the complete game in 1.0. This will come with 2 more Underlords, the Battle Pass, the City Crawl, and will be the official beginning of Underlords Season One.
To give you an idea of how far apart the internal and external builds are, here's our current Dashboard:
These differences extend to other areas as well and are fully intertwined, making it difficult to ship them separately. This is why we've decided to spend all our efforts on finishing and shipping everything together.
You can expect any updates in the next few weeks to be more in the "bugs & balance" category as we prepare for the release of The Big Update.
We cannot wait to talk more about Season One with you, so expect to hear more about it soon.
We have just released a hotfix to further adjust the odds of getting Tier 4 and Tier 5 units at higher levels.
Here's the new table:
It was worthwhile to test those odds and see how those changes mixed in with the Tier 3 - 3 Star meta we have been playing for the last few weeks.
In this update, we toned down Tier 5 units and moved them to Level 9 and 10. We have some ideas internally on what we want to do with Tier 5 units now, and the community's chatter has helped us refine how we think about these pieces.
Hopefully we can have another iteration on them very soon.
We are really thankful for all your input on this as we continue to try a bunch of experimental things while under the BETA tag. Remember these times fondly!
See you guys for next week's update.
A few weeks ago we talked about the upcoming updates being a bit leaner (balance and bugs) while we worked on bigger updates. After chewing on things for a bit, we're ready to chat about what's coming in the next few weeks.
One quick note before we dive in: When making games alongside a live audience, there's a lot of pivoting that occurs based on feedback. Any update we ship may not have been 100% planned ahead of time. Sometimes they are mostly composed of ideas generated by the community that we thought would be worthwhile to fast track and ship sooner. So with this blog post we'll let you take a peek at our upcoming scheduled updates, but keep in mind their order or even the content might change.
Our main focus currently is on Season 1 and its features. Some features (like the ones below) will be shipping early in Season 0, while others will only make sense with the whole package at the beginning of Season 1.
A few weeks ago we made some changes to ranked matchmaking, to make the Rank Score and update rules more transparent. As we noted at that time, we approach the design of the ranked mode from the perspective of balancing two goals that are in tension: giving players a sense of progress, and providing an accurate measurement of skill. We like the balance we have struck between those two goals for Upstart through Big Boss. Unfortunately, in the current design, the Lords of White Spire leaderboard has a tendency to devolve into a list of players who play Underlords the most, and we've heard from many of you that it should be a list of who plays the best. In other words, for Lords of White Spire, the dial needs to be turned all the way to the "accurate measurement of skill" setting. So we're making two changes to Lords of White Spire that will go live with the next update.
Heads up. Some big changes are coming to ranked matchmaking in the next update. We heard from many of you that you wanted a place where you could experiment with different strategies or just play more casually in general without worrying about risking your hard-earned rank. So we've made the ground-breaking design decision to have two ways of playing; Casual and Ranked. Let's break them down:
These fixes are server side so nothing is required on your end.
These are the update notes for the soon to be released Mid-Season Gameplay Update. We are posting them now instead of our usual time since we figured you all would like to read and parse them before the update hits.
Enjoy!
Bug Fixes:
This week's update will arrive on Thursday. We're currently wrapping up a few experimental features we'd like to get your feedback on, and they require a bit more testing before we put them in front of you. Features to look forward to on this Thursday's update:
