The Final? Update! + Simplified Chinese!

Hey everyone! We gathered some really good feedback over the past few months since Chronicle's 2.0 release and we're happy to bring a major update reworking and fixing a ton of bugs and content! Patch notes below!

ADDITIONS


  • New Translations! -> Simplified Chinese!
  • Nano and Nina have a new attack!
  • ---> Full barrage of indestructible bullets.
  • Added a "Laser Pickup Required" message if you fire your laser without the laser powerup.
  • Added a "Mouse Only" option in Game Settings where you can play the entire game with your mouse!
  • Added new achievements.
  • Language now can be chosen on the first time you load the game.
  • Added a 3 second countdown delay to picking traits so you do not pick the wrong one on accident.
  • You now receive a Trait Drop every 2 bosses killed in Boss Rush.
  • Added a visual slider to the Dodge Roll to better understand the length of the cooldown.
  • Added a wave number in Boss Rush's pause mode to see how far you are from the last wave.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Nina's launch off speed to initiate her bomb drop attack is 30% faster.
  • All minibosses now fly offscreen and de-spawn when you move to a side lane.
  • Updated Russian font to fit the game better.
  • Challenges now scale in XP (+25 XP per Ship Level).
  • Boss Rush wave level scaling now increased by 3 per boss down from 5.
  • Bob's Drones no longer drop powerups or health packs in Boss Rush.

FIXES


  • Fixed Russian translation errors.
  • Fixed an issue where "Helping Hand" turrets do not rotate around you after trait level 1.
  • Fixed a bug where Nano becomes untargetable if he joins together with Nina while Nina dies.
  • Fixed a bug where Side Flying Drones would sometimes have transparent bodies.
  • Fixed an issue where Traits that were Lvl 2 and higher were not displaying information correctly.
  • Fixed an issue in the math algorithms for Traits Lvl 2 and higher.
  • Fixed an issue where "Reinforced Forge" had an incorrect description.
  • Fixed a bug where starting a new run from The Grid opens the options menu instead of the Start Run menu on default.
  • Fixed a bug where all Bomb Drones had their missile targeter always on.
  • Fixed sprite sorting and drawing issues for the Base Defense System.
  • Fixed bug where Killchain counter in Arcade mode was breaking the entire level.
  • Fixed a silly bug where none of the Dialog Voices were using the Dialog Volume Control.
  • Fixed a bug where dialog was not playing for the Base Approach cutscene.
  • Fixed a bug where picking the "Bomb and Take" trait was breaking the game on the next trait drop.

Chronicle 2.0! Major Update / Re-Release!

Hey everyone! It's been a hot minute since we've said anything on here. Chronicle just launched a massive update changing a lot of the base game and we also added a ton of new content. Check out the patch notes below for ALL of the changes!

Additions


  • Dead co-op players now respawn before the final stage.
  • Controller D-Pad now works.
  • All controllers now have support.
  • Menus can now be navigated via the D-Pad on controllers.
  • White flash added to the laser recharger for a visual cue when the laser is ready to be used.
  • Sound added to the laser recharger on ready use.
  • Weapon drop odds reduced 8% -> 1% + 0.5% per missed drop.
  • All bosses and midbosses now strafe.
  • Some enemies can have armor and will flash blue instead of white.
  • B button now allows for back to grid from the menus.
  • All damage sources now show damage numbers.
  • New start run screen in The Grid.
  • The Grid's menu dots now flash red when something new exists in that section.
  • Asteroids have been reworked and re-animated.
  • Load game screen now shows your current ship level and highest completed difficulty.
  • Pause menu shows current game mode.
  • Added tutorial to challenges section for clarity.
  • New mid-game cutscene added.
  • New Voice Over for Operator 27.
  • New Voice Over for Unit Eight's computer.
  • Arcade mode now has multiple different voice lines.
  • New achievements have been added.
  • Death defy now shows as a notification when it triggers.

Powerups!


We've added a handful of powerups that drop more often than weapons to assist you against the constant barrage of enemies and bullets. Powerups expire after set amounts of time.
  • 2x Damage - Increase all damage output by 2x.
  • 3x Damage - Increase all damage output by 3x.
  • Auto Fire - Constant fire without holding down the fire buttons.
  • Max Fire Rate - Increased your fire rate to the max perk level.
  • Ammo Crate - Gives a free pickup of all current ammo-containing weapons.
  • Shield - Adds a player shield that blocks the first instance of damage.
  • Bullet Reflector - Enables your reflector that ricochets bullets back at enemies using their damage.
  • Homing Bullets - Turns your bullets into precision death bullet machines.

Multi-Lane Room System!


To give the game more of a roguelike feel, Chronicle now has 3 separate lanes that exist. The side lanes can be switched to at various times through the level and have different bonuses attached to completing those rooms. The enemies in this side rooms have increased health and damage.
  • Health - Increases max health by 20%.
  • Weapon - Grants a weapon and increased damage output by 10%.
  • Scraps - Grants a whole mess of scraps.
  • Bombs - Grants extra bombs and increases bomb damage output.
  • Trait Star - Grants an increased rarity trait.

Traits!


Roguelikes typically have ways to modify the gameplay to make each run unique. Chronicle has 31 different traits that can spawn after a side lane and after a boss. Your current Traits are always visible from the Pause Menu and you can not have more than 9 different traits.

New Perk Nodes


  • Starting Shield - Starts each run with the shield powerup.
  • Starting Trait - Adds a % chance to start a run with a trait drop selection.
  • Unlock Double Fire - Adds the double fire weapon into the drop system.
  • Unlock Double Angled Fire - Adds the double angled weapon into the drop system.
  • Unlock Upgraded Sideshot - Adds the upgraded sideshot weapon into the drop system.

Ascensions!


  • After completing the Standard game mode, you can now unlock ascension levels.
  • Ascensions are the standard game mode with more factors / rules added in to increase the difficulty drastically.

New Boss Abiltiies and Changes


  • Bob
  • ---> Burst Fire when shield get broken or shield returns to normal after healing.
  • ---> Bob Drones now spawn with every attack starting at 50% HP.
  • ---> Total bob drones on screen increased from 4 -> 5
  • ---> Decreased Bob's cooldown between attacks from 3.5 sec -> 3 sec
  • Logan
  • ---> Bomb that confused player movement controls.
  • Fionne
  • ---> Bomb that explodes into shrapnel in 360 degrees.
  • ---> Fionne's buzzsaws move 20% faster
  • Nano & Nina
  • ---> Attached now track player and fire a massive laser.

Changes


Chronicle was initially was too slow to be classified as a bullet hell, so we've made some changes to the player's stats and systems to make it feel like it's settled into it's niche.
  • Initial Bullet Attack Cooldown reduced from 0.3 sec -> 0.15 sec (faster initial fire rate)
  • Fire Rate per level perk reduced from 2.5% -> 2%
  • Initial Bullet Speed increased from 6.5 units/sec -> 8.75
  • Initial Missile Fire Rate reduced from 0.58 sec -> 0.445 sec
  • Initial Player Movement Speed increased from 5.5 units/sec -> 6.15
  • Players now start with 3 weapons, basic shot, single angled shot, sideshot. Can pickup empowered version of each of these weapons which have an ammo count.
To compensate for the player buffs, we've also buffed stats across the board for enemies.
  • Basic enemy drones now attack faster from 0.75 sec -> 0.6 sec
  • All enemy default bullet speeds increased from 5.85 units/sec -> 7.85 units/sec
  • Turret bullet speed increased from 5.95 units/sec -> 7.85 units/sec
  • Bob's drones bullet speed increased from 3 units/sec -> 4 units/sec
  • Bob's elites bullet speed increased from 4 units/sec -> 6.25 units/sec
  • Zelos - all forms - bullet speed increased from 5 units/sec -> 6.75 units/sec
  • Base Defense System bullet speed increased from 5 units/sec -> 6.25 units/sec
  • Fionne, Logan, Nano & Nina, and Tetraknights bullet speed increased from 4 units/sec -> 6 units/sec
  • Ground Mech bullet speed increased from 6 units/sec -> 7 units/sec
  • Enemy health calculations reworked to be less exponential and feel more fair.
  • On a new run, enemies now start spawning 1 second faster from 3.5 sec -> 2.5 sec after player flies in.
  • Reduced enemy spawn interval speed from 1.75 sec -> 1.05 sec
  • Reduced time waiting between waves from 5.5 sec -> 0.25 sec
  • Increased chance of two enemies spawning at the same time from 10% -> 25%
  • Increased chance of three enemies spawning at the same time from 3% -> 6.5%
  • Tweaked the color of the back button in the New and Load Game menus to better show when it is selected.
  • Pausing in story mode is now instant and does not have a wait buffer.
  • Removed moving around The Grid during zoom out.
  • Missiles have been reworked.
  • ---> Missile weapon is now the Missile Barrage.
  • ---> Missiles now auto target enemies.
  • ---> The missile fire rate perk is now Total Missile Targets (up to 16 missiles can be fired at once)
  • ---> Turning speed improved.
  • Nina now targets and tracks the player faster during her laser attack.
  • Increased loading screen bullet speed.
  • Modified asteroid explosion sound.
  • Added sounds in selection screens.

Fixes


  • "Defy Death" perk could activate when you choose to End Run from the Pause Menu, which would not end your run.
  • Fixed a bug where you could scroll between menu screens when the stats screens were open.
  • Fixed a bug where Pulse Blast ammo was consumed as fast as regular weapons.
  • Fixed an issue where The Tetraknights would fire missiles from empty voids.
  • Fixed a co-op issue where reaching Zelos with a dead second player stops you from advancing to the final level.
  • Fixed a bug where hitbox was larger than intended for player collisions.
  • Fixed a bug where Tetraknight Gren's vines would persist after he exploded.
  • Fixed a sorting issue where Weapons and Scraps were not sitting above all objects for easy visibility.
  • Fixed a sorting issue where Players were not sitting above all objects for easy visibility.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would not progress is Nano died too fast before Nina.
  • Fixed localization issues in The Grid.
  • Fixed an issue where Vine attacks would not update when the boss strafes.

  • Fixed a bug where Nina would spawn in the wrong animation state in Boss Rush.
  • Bosses no longer bounce backward when taking damage.
  • Fixed a bug where skipping too quickly through cutscenes would break them.
  • Fixed a bug where The Grid would say you were about to play a Boss Rush mode but ended up in Standard.
  • Bosses no longer move horizontally off camera.
  • Fixed a bug where Drill Drones sometimes would not attack.
  • Removed challenge rewards line from Boss Rush end screen.
  • Fixed a bug where Fionne's buzzsaws would disappear if only one left the top of the screen.
  • Fixed Background in main menu for controls screen.
  • Added loading screen after company logos to fix the black screen issue.
  • Fixed a bug where tutorials would break boss cutscenes.
  • Fixed controller navigation in load game screen.
  • Fixed a bug where beating the game would grant you 5 ship levels.
  • Fixed a bug where players would sit above blast doors inside the ship.
  • Fixed Gren's warning vines to update with his movement.
  • Fixed a bug where you could not re-select the pause menu after alt-tabbing.

1.2.0 - The Survivability Update - This Gon' Be Good

Hey everyone! Remember when these were every week? It's starting to feel like that. The game in it's current state is not forgiving and really makes you hate playing it. We're here to fix that in this update.

ADDITIONS


  • Speedboost powerups now grant invincibility for 1 second (roughly 30% of the full duration of the boost) on pickup!
  • Scraps now auto-collect if on screen when you reach a boss.
  • Added controller configurations for Nintendo Switch Pro and Sony Dualshock 4 controllers.
  • Arcade is now locked until you play one run in Story mode.
  • All bosses in Boss Rush now have health bars!
  • Your weapons and ammo now transfers into the final level.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Bob's turrets scale too hard, so we're making them easier.
  • --> Health per wave level reduced from 1 -> 0.2
  • --> Attack speed per level reduced from 0.01 -> 0.
  • Max Health perk nodes amount gained increased 3 -> 4.
  • Hitbox reduced on the player by roughly 50%. Hitbox now reaches across cockpit to each gun, leaving each wing not damageable.
  • Crashing into enemy ships damage reduced from Half of total HP -> 10 HP
  • Scrap Tank spawn rate increases a small amount every time it tries to spawn and doesn't spawn.
  • Player launched Missiles really feel weak and suboptimal.
  • --> Damage increased from Perk Level Damage -> Perk Level Damage + Half of Primary Weapon Damage
  • --> Damage increased per Perk Level gained from 2 damage -> 3 damage.
  • --> Homing Missile Turn Speed increased from 2 units/sec -> 3 units/sec
  • Laser damage perk upgrades increased per level from 3 -> 5.
  • Time it takes to travel the final run to Zelos' ship reduced by half.
  • You can no longer collect a speedboost mid dodge roll.
  • Enemies no longer bounce back after the player reaches a fast enough attack speed.
  • Missile Drones in the final level no longer strafe sideways while firing.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a bug where Scrap Tank would appear in Arcade.
  • Fixed a bug where turrets would fire during cutscenes.
  • Fixed a bug where Nova's arm in the Tetraknights would fire if he was dead.
  • Fixed a bug where Aqua's arm in the Tetraknights would fire if she was dead.
  • Fixed a bug where the Scrap Tractor Beam would not pull at an increasing speed to be collected.
  • Fixed a bug where some of the Tetraknights would talk in the cutscene even if they were dead.
  • Fixed a bug where the final level would have unoptimized level chunks, cutting off the player from finishing the game.
  • Fixed a bug where ground units would "bounce back" when being hit by bullets.
  • Fixed a bug where Tether Drones would have sorting issues.
  • Fixed a bug where ammo count would sometimes be hidden behind game elements.
  • Fixed a bug where some bosses would have glitched out health bars (we're looking at you, Nina).

Hey everyone! Time for the some good ol' patch notes! We've received an unbelievable amount of feedback.

ADDITIONS

  • Enemy level now takes 20% longer to increase.
  • All damage inside ship reduced by 50%.
  • To increase clarity between ammo types, the single angled shots are now a pink powerup instead of orange.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a bug where a tether drone would break if one part of it was spawned offscreen.
  • Fixed a bug where you could fire and cheese bosses during cutscenes.
  • Fixed a bug where mechs would float during boss cutscenes.

Hey guys! The feedback and support has been amazing! We're so excited to share with you what content we have planned in the near future. Patch Notes:

ADDITIONS


  • Zoom out buttons in The Grid now toggle between menus while the menu is active.
  • Added different rarity levels for nodes.
  • --> Common (Gray), Rare (Gold), and Super Rare(Platinum)
  • --> Rarity levels are now noted in the Perk info panel as well.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Added 0.5 units of flying space on the left and right sides of the screen.
  • Reduced the amount of time it takes for Scraps to reach their final floating destination by 50%.
  • Removed the vine lash sound from The Tetraknights warning markers for the vine lash.

  • Nano and Nina are now invulnerable for the brief time that they join ships.

  • Interior Missile Drone attack interval increased from 1.25 -> 2.25 seconds between missiles.
  • Player now sits center when Captain Zelos' ship spawns.

  • Fixed a bug that caused black edging to appear during screen shake in game.
  • Fixed a bug where if you switch to Boss Rush, the game will always play Boss Rush until you restart the game.
  • Fixed a bug where the The Grid's menu would say Boss Rush and you would load into a Standard run.

1.0.1 - Quick Patch!

Hey guys! We're so appreciative with how this game has been received! The feedback has been awesome and we want to make the game even better for all of you to enjoy. Patch Notes:

ADDITIONS


  • Added some piping on The Grid near the Pulse Blast powerup for pathing clarity.
  • The Enemy Difficulty Level perk now also increases your progression speed throughout the level by 0.4% for each perk level (up to 4% faster at enemy difficulty perk level 10).
  • ---> This should make the time it takes to reach the beginning boss about 30% faster.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Reduced the progress reduction speed after killing a boss from 20% -> 10% resulting in slightly shorter runs between bosses.
  • Increased the Player's speed in the Interior Ship level from 4 -> 5.5.

FIXES


  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to unpause if you alt-tabbed while having the game be paused.
  • Fixed some text spacing between Challenge information.
  • Fixed an issue that caused challenge progress to always show as 0.
  • Fixed an alignment issue between some of the piping on the grid.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Nina to shoot you with her laser even if her ship is destroyed and flying off screen.
  • Fixed a bug that stopped Tetraknight Gren's vine attack from having a warning after being used the first time.

  • Fixed a bug where the laser recharge meter would get stuck and unusable after you pick up another laser powerup while firing your laser.

  • Fixed a bug where you would receive 25 XP in Boss Rush mode even if you didn't kill a boss.
  • Fixed a bug where explosions were stacking on top of each other and causing a very loud noise.

1.0 - Out of Early Access - Full Release!

Hey everyone! We've been looking forward to this day for a very long time! It's been an amazing 8 months, and we cannot thank you all enough for the generosity, the support, and the feedback that we've received! Launching out of Early Access does not mean the content is stopping, we have some New Game+ ideas and possible DLC in the future for even more content! Without further ado, here are the Release v1.0 Patch Notes!

ADDITIONS


  • Achievements are now live! You can login to the game to auto receive some of them based on your current save files. Good luck unlocking all 69!
  • New Biome - "Zelos Ship Interior" - Traverse down the corridor without your ship and take out new enemies, turrets, obstacles and more!
  • Captain Zelos now has voice / lip syncing.
  • Tetraknight Gren and The Tetraknights both have a red warning before firing their vine attacks.
  • Sound revamp for a lot of stuff in the game.
  • Dialog now has a separate volume control [defaults at 100%].

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Base Defense System guns' Health Per Level ratio reduced from 3 -> 2.1.
  • Enemies have 10% less health after killing two bosses in a run.
  • Enemy damage is now reduced by 32.5% after killing one boss in a run. 100% -> 67.5%
  • Splitter Drones' spawns can now be destroyed.
  • Captain Zelos' voice over volume reduced by 20%.
  • Some challenges will now only show after you've unlocked the content to be able to complete that challenge.
  • Challenge - Kill Bob without Healing Him changed from Gold to Platinum. XP/Scraps increased to 350/200.
  • UI sound effects no longer move between ears.
  • UI sound effects no longer sound slightly different every time they're played.
  • The Tetraknights laser eye attack now fits the eyes better.
  • The Tetraknights arm attacks are now in unison if Nova and Aqua haven't died that run.
  • The Tetraknights missile burst attack is now more bursty.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a large gamebreaking bug where the Static City logo would not load at the beginning of the game for AMD graphics cards, causing unknown crash to desktops.
  • Fixed a bug whether the Tethered Drone were on the wrong sorting layer.
  • Fixed a bug where the Splitter Drone shadows were on the wrong sorting layer after it split.
  • Fixed a bug where missiles would be on the wrong sorting layer.
  • Fixed a bug where the Space Base biome would disappear after killing 3 bosses.
  • Fixed a bug where some boss ships were exploding too much.
  • Fixed a bug where Driller Drones were sometimes not launching at the player when in range.
  • Fixed a bug where Exploder Drones were sometimes not detonating when the player was in range.
  • Fixed a bug where Captain Zelos' ship was not flashing on damage.

  • Fixed a bug where if you eliminate Nina before The Siblings join together, Nano no longer wants to fight and goes AFK.

  • Added The Tetraknights into the Boss Rush!

  • Added new music track for the Base Defense System!

  • ---> This drone emits an explosion within range of the player.
  • Powerups now have better drop rates.
  • ---> Initial drop rate decreased from 12% -> 8%

  • New ending sequence after the fight with Zelos.

  • Background optimizations for performance.
  • Laser barricades no longer provide screenshake when hit with bullets.
  • Perk - KEEP SCRAPS - Level 1 cost reduced from 250 -> 200 (and the higher levels are also 50 scrap less).

  • Fixed a bug where ground unit enemies would attempt to hide their shadow on explosion, breaking the game. Why did they even have shadows?
  • Fixed a visual bug during the Tetraknights boss fight where they would not flash upon taking damage.
  • Fixed a visual bug where Scraps now always sit above everything else on screen.
  • Fixed a visual bug where explosions now always sit above everything else on screen (except scraps).
  • Fixed a bug where Ground Turret's Scraps would fly off screen or really far away on explosion.

  • NEW OBSTACLE! - Space Laser Barricade
  • ---> This laser defense grid module has been installed all over Zelos' base to try to stop you in your tracks (they do 50% max health damage on collision)!
  • NEW ENEMY! - Splitter Drone
  • ---> This enemy is killable until it splits, which then the enemies can only be dodged or [spoiler]shot with a Pulse Blast[/spoiler].
  • Space Base now has larger cosmetic buildings.

ADDITIONS


  • Co-Op Mode has been added!
  • --> Toggle Co-Op in the Story Mode Loading Screen by pressing the Y button or Tab
  • --> Co-Op Mode is right now limited to having two controllers plugged in.
  • --> Co-Op Mode works in Steam Remote Play!
  • Co-Op Mode has a couple of tweaks to the main game:
  • --> All ammo pickups give +50% more ammo.
  • --> All enemies spawn with 25% more health.
  • --> Enemies spawn 25% more frequently.

Hey everyone! Time for the weekly patch notes!

ADDITIONS


  • NEW ENEMY - 1 new enemy added to the fight!
  • Tethered Enemy - This enemy has a energy tethered between it's two sides.

  • Buying the Enemy Difficulty Level Perk now gives you an extra 10xp per run per perk gained!
  • New Boss! -> The Devious Twins, Nano and Nina!
  • -> Nano and Nina have been added to the Story Mode boss selector only.
  • -> Nano is more aggressive and uses a basic laser while Nina uses her wit to take you down with bombs and lasers.
  • -> They also have corresponding minibosses as well.
  • -> Dialogue has been added for their interaction as well but no voice overs yet!

ADJUSTMENTS


  • The Grid now shows the perk that you are selecting's details even if it isn't unlocked yet. Hooray for strategic pathing!
  • Minimum time before you can activate the correct button to get past the tutorial increased (0.5 sec -> 1.5 sec).
  • Bob's healing orbs now float to his health bar to have more clarity on when you're healing him.
  • The "Attack Speed"perk has been renamed to "Fire Rate" for more clarity.
  • The Fire Rate node's art has been replaced to better show the perk's ability.
  • Player's side bounding boxes extended to give more flying space and be able to pick up those pesky side scraps.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a bug where picking up two laser powerups at the same time would make the orb effect persist as if someone stuck a sticker on your screen. Don't worry, we've tried to peel the sticker off, too.
  • Fixed a bug where the save files were not properly displaying their time played.
  • Fixed a bug where you could fire / queue up bombs / queue up a roll in the pause menu.
  • Fixed a super annoying bug where you could not regain control of the continue button in the end screen panel after alt-tabbing out.
  • Fixed a bug where XP from killing bosses was not getting added to your ship level xp total at the end of each round!

Hey everyone! Time for the weekly patch notes!

ADDITIONS


  • Multiple save files are now in the game! Play on the same account as your friends without deleting your friends' saves! (unless you still want to)
  • Rumble support now in for controllers (default on).
  • Added rumble and screenshake toggle support in Options.
  • Added an explode sound when the player blows up.
  • Added a new sound for when you switch weapons.
  • Added a new sound for when you break your current weapon.
  • Added a voice line when Bob gains his shield back in his phases.
  • Reworked the explosion system! Bosses can now explode multiple times.
  • Added a ship level indicator to The Grid.
  • Added an XP bar under the ship level indicator in The Grid.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Increased base missile damage from 2 -> 4.
  • Decreased Grabber (orange enemy) enemy's movement speed per difficulty level from 5% -> 2%.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a visual bug where black lines were appearing in the background.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the Laser Damage node was showing the wrong node after being purchased.
  • Fixed a bug where units that could phase out would still show ship cracks while invisible.

0.2.2 Weekly Update

Hey everyone! Time for the weekly patch notes!

ADDITIONS


  • New Weapon - Pulse Blast - Decimates all foes and projectiles with a close range shotgun-like pulse! (Attacks 50% slower than your current attack speed, does damage equal to current damage x2 (scales down to damage x 0.8 at the edges of the pulse)
  • Added node on grid to unlock the Pulse Blast.
  • Captain Zelos now has a new second phase with lots of destruction and it's not easy.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • The text object that shows your current scraps in The Grid and during the story mode runs has been extended and no longer acts weird when you reach 4 digits.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed some piping in the grid, its alignment was off and didn't light up. - Ongoing improvements over time.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the player's stats would be reset when you explode.
  • Fixed an audio bug where the music would sometimes not change after reaching a boss.
  • Fixed a bug where a new of the perks would not save or persist between runs.
  • Fixed a bug where you would sometimes not receive the scraps that you collected after finishing a run when you reached The Grid.
  • Fixed a bug where the Laser powerup would not recharge randomly.
  • Fixed a bug where the Laser would not recharge after having the current laser expire.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the boss' health bars were not overlayed correctly and appeared offset.

Hey everyone! Time for the weekly patch notes!

ADDITIONS


  • Swedish translations are now available in game!
  • Added missiles overlay and missile weapon quick swap icon.
  • Added a new node - Missiles: Homing Mod. (Activates the homing chip in your missiles)
  • Added the credits!
  • Buzzsaws now have a release and collision sound!
  • Added alert sound for when player is at 25% ship health.
  • Added impact sound for when player takes damage.
  • Elites and bosses now start to crack and then also spark as they take damage for visual clarity.
  • Lasers now have new animations.
  • Fionne now laughs when she releases her buzzsaws.
  • Captain Zelos' base damage increased from 3 -> 10.
  • Added a homing missiles attack for Captain Zelos.
  • Added a new side lasers attack for Captain Zelos.
  • Captain Zelos now has 3 phases with each phase getting progressively more difficult.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • The text that appears when you have scraps remaining and want to start a new run has been modified for clarity.
  • Some translations have been updated.
  • When revisiting perks that you have unlocked, it will no longer show a price in the info box.
  • The Grid now fades in on scene start.
  • Captain Zelos' movement bounds are now 1 unit closer to the center of the screen.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a bug where Player would go invisible upon taking damage.
  • Fixed a bug where dialog would attempt to appear and then break in arcade mode upon reaching a boss.
  • Dialog text borders have been adjusted to compensate for the size of the text.
  • Fixed a bug where menus would overlap if the back button was pressed too many times.
  • Fixed a bug where some perks would be grayed out on first time the game is loaded each session.

0.2.0 - The Voice Over Update!

Hey party people! Hope you've been enjoying this week more than we have (and we've been having some super fun working from home - no sarcasm, it's really actually been fun)! Here are the weekly patch notes!

ADDITIONS


Voice Overs!
  • Logan, Fionne, and Bob now have voice overs and their first pass of lip syncing.
  • A fancy new cutscene system is added when a boss shows up!
  • The Early Access warning screen now has an animated background and feels less....boring?

CLARITY


- Clarity is added to make the game more clear in it's intentions.
  • There is now a dialog popup when you choose New Game but already have a saved file.
  • There is now a prompt to advance dialog with button press.
  • There is now a prompt to open The Grid's menu with button press.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Your total scraps in The Grid now turns red on a lock gate if you are not the right ship level.

BUG FIXES


  • Fixed a persistent bug where the lock gates were still purchasable without being a high enough ship level.
  • Fixed an issue where the background would sometimes have trouble wrapping edges in the main menu and loading screen.
  • Possibly fixed an issue where Linux users would have a black screen after loading the game for the second and subsequent times.
  • Fixed a bug where the missiles powerup would have an ammo pack containing 0 missiles when picked up, never allowing you to select it in weapon swap.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to use their story mode stats in arcade mode to get an advantage.
  • Fixed a bug that stopped all audio settings from saving between scenes (or at all).
  • Fixed a bug in The Grid that caused pre-purchased perks to seem as if they were not purchased and grayed out.
  • Fixed a graphical bug that showed perks slightly grayer than they were intended to be.

Hey there everyone! Thanks so much for the amazing support, reviews, and feedback during launch week! This has been so fun and watching you all play Chronicle has been quite a humbling experience. Here are the first ever patch notes! From here on, Chronicle's patch notes will always be on Fridays.

ADDITIONS


  • Added selection sounds to in game menus.
  • Added a "Press Start/Escape to Exit" notification in the grid for clarity.
  • Added a quick tutorial in Story Mode for which button shoots your primary weapon for clarity.
  • Added an error sound to The Grid when you are unable to buy something.
  • The total scraps amount number now turns red when you cannot buy a selected node.
  • Added a Missile Powerup for the player. ----> Requires the Missiles: Unlock node. ----> Missiles can also be upgraded to be Homing Missiles.

ADJUSTMENTS


  • Localization updated for two text entries.
  • Removed pointer arrows from any center aligned menu buttons because it looked horrible.
  • Scraps descent speed reduced from 1.35 units/sec -> 1.15 units/sec
  • Reduced scaling movement speed for all enemies after killing a boss from 100% -> 5%.
  • Reduced scaling attack speed for all enemies after killing a boss from 100% -> 10%.

FIXES


  • Fixed a bug where Operator 27 was too small in Story Mode.
  • Fixed a bug where Alt-Tabbing out of the game and then coming back to it doesn't allow you to select anything.
  • Fixed a bug where you were able to unlock nodes without being a high enough ship level.
  • Fixed a bug where some locked nodes would not be unlockable after reaching them.
  • Fixed a visual issue where some text would change font when they totally don't need to be different.
  • Fixed a bug where the arcade upgrade screen would show if you died when killing the boss.

Chronicle: Unit Eight is an arcade bullethell roguelike with a sliver of RPG thrown into the mix.
