Merry Christmas everyone! We have just pushed the Christmas update, so it should hit Steam soon! This update brings some fixes and a lot of new models! So let's jump right into it!
Gameplay
Storage

Hello Duckerrinos! We haven't posted anything in a while, but we've been hard at work creating new features and enhancing some old ones. Which we will share in this first update of 2021! So first some house-keeping things: Where have you guys been? We have been busy with exams, and battling Covid. Will there be this long gap again? Hopefully not! The next few updates should just stabilize the game, and add a few new features. So with that out of the way let's get into the new things!
Gameplay
Crime and Police
If you let your ducks get too mad for too long they will resort to crime. This means they may go to the town hall and steal your duckeronies or they may even riot and shut down a workplace for some time. Police ducks can help get the perpetrators put in prison and might even stop them in their tracks before they get to steal your money or shut down a workplace. Police ducks can be hired at a police station.
Sickness and Hospital
Sicknesses have been updated. Some sicknesses will make your duck feel so bad they need to go home while other sicknesses will be mild enough to keep your duck walking around and working. Some sicknesses are more contagious than others and some may even have a risk of killing the duck! We would not want the ducks to die, so build a hospital to help mitigate the risk of this happening and help the ducks keep a healthy life!
Friends
Ducks can now become friends with each other if they have good interactions with each other. This means they will want to talk to each other more than they otherwise would and get happier when they talk to their friends! You can see who the ducks are friends with and who they might not like that much if you right-click on them.
User Interface
As a way to make text and icons a little bit bigger, the basic UI has been updated. Starting at the build menu, the resource buildings - food, water, and research - have been placed into the same category. Happiness now shows the average happiness for the city, and when hovering the box a popup shows how the happiness is spread over the ducks.
Graphics
New Roads With the plan to bring cars to Ducktopia the road models have been updated. They now have a nicer look and are ready for when cars will roam the world.
Updated Models All the models have now been updated.
Modding
Duck Replacement We have reworked how duck replacements work and use a system similar to the one we use for buildings.
Other
Console We have added a console with a bunch of commands to help test the game, some of these commands include giving resources, changing resource cap among other things. Use it at your own risk. Live Season Updates We have also added the ability for the game to update to the currently supported seasons (Halloween and Christmas) without having to update the game. Reset Camera to Centre We found ourselves getting lost in the void, by scrolling too far out. But no more! We have added a key (F) to center your camera back to the center of the map. Lock Camera to Board To further help with this we also locked the camera to the board and added a show board bounds option, to visually show where the map ends.
Bug fixes
- Fixes a bug where the player could exit the map bounds.
- Fixes a bug where the player couldn't build near the edge of the map.
- Fixes some camera clipping when zooming (Still more work to be done).
- Fixes a bug where the player wouldn't be told about map bounds unless holding shift.
- Fixes a bug that prevented the UI from updating when loading or tabbing out.
- Fixes a bug when loading the Kasper trait.
- Fixes a bug keeping the version UI above the gameplay UI.
- Fixes a bug that could sometimes break time controls buttons.
- Fixes a bug that would color the notifications a wrong color.
- Fixes a bug preventing the player from properly closing the info UIs (Duck UI, BuildingUI, Etc.).
- Fixes a bug related to placing bigger buildings.
Known bugs
- There are still some problems with bigger buildings not being placed correctly.
- Sometimes ducks who work 24/7 don't go to work.
- When a duck is in prison, it is sometimes stuck outside it (This is only a visual bug).
- Friendship UI scales weirdly.
- There are sometimes problems with firefighters not getting to the fire in time.
- BuildingInRadiusMission does not check if it's a new building within the radius or just somewhere in the city.
- Sometimes ducks stand still for a long time.
- Camera clips when looking at parts of the map.
- W/Up arrow breaks and no longer works.

Merry Christmas everyone! We hope you are all staying safe. We have just pushed the Christmas update, so it should hit your Steam soon! If you want a TLDR, look below, we would recommend looking at all the pictures:
- We added a new missions system, where the ducks ask you to do something for them.
- New requirements for upgrading and building.
- New Notification system.
- Water Blocks.
- Christmas Models.
- Light for Mouse at night making it easier to see and build.
- And a whole load of fixes!
Gameplay
More Requirements As was foretold we have been added more requirements for upgrading houses or building new buildings. Some buildings now require other buildings near them, before they can be placed or upgraded. A full list of these changes can be seen at the bottom of the page. Building Descriptions We have changed how we handle descriptions. It now gives more information along with always being up to date. Storage Limits We also did some work on adding and balancing storage, while trying to keep it fun you can see the changes at the bottom of the page. Missions Ducks have now become more demanding, and now want you to fulfill their wants! By building certain buildings or keeping the city happy. Accepting and completing the missions will give your ducks a happiness boost. However, if you are unable to complete the mission in time or choose to decline the mission, the ducks are going to dislike you a little bit gaining an unhappiness boost. We have added a preview of the missions UI, showing the notification for a mission, and the UI showing all accepted missions.
User Interface
New Notification system Notifications are now sorted into categories.
Graphics
Christmas Models Just as with the Halloween models, the models have been updated, to have a more Christmassy and wintery vibe. - However, this time is it not the ducks themselves, but all the buildings! These changes do nothing for the gameplay and are purely cosmetic. If you like the regular models more, the Christmas skin can be disabled in Mods. Water Blocks As mentioned before water blocks have been added to Ducktopia. These blocks are nothing more than cosmetic, and you cannot build on them. Ducks have, of course, no problem with swimming over the water to reach their destination.
Modding
The modding API is coming along, but far from stable so won't create guides or documentation for this until it is a bit more stable. Support for changing buildings models To make it easier for ourselves we have created a way to only replace a building's model. Which can also be used by modders to load their own models in replacing the normal models. Mod Configuartions We also created a new way of handling loading mods and remembering which mods were enabled.
Other
Light for Mouse At night, there is now a light at the mouse, slightly lighting up the area around the mouse.
Bug fixes
- Fixed a bug where it didn't show what was currently being researched.
- Fixed a bug where when starting a new game you would retain your unlocked buildings from the last game.
- Fixed a bug regarding research dependencies not needing to be fulfilled.
- Fixed a bug where lamps wouldn't turn on if placed at night.
- Fixed a bug causing the milestone UI to be in front of the basic UI.
- Fixed a bug with the slide-in UI.
- Fixed a bug forcing more ducks into the workplace than they could fit, so no more overcrowding!
- Fixed a bug where loading a game could sometimes break the game requiring a restart to fix.
- Fixed a bug where you could store more than your storage limit when loading a game.
- Fixed a bug where the telescope on the Research Center would flip out and breakdance.
- Fixed scaling of some models.
Known bugs
- Ducks generally have trouble with pathfinding, and get stuck or just stand outside all night.
- Camera clips if zoom all the way out, and the city is a certain size.
Coming Up
We are currently taking it a bit slower due to exams coming up soon and Christmas, but we already have planned some of the new things coming up! So we wanted to share some of it with you.
- Hospitals and sickness for your ducks to give you more things to look out for.
- A way to move buildings.
- Upgrading buildings become cheaper since you already invested resources in building the lower tier one.

Set Town Hall money capacity to 5000
Set Bank money capacity to 2000

Welcome welcome, everyone!
We hope you enjoyed your Halloween, even though it was different this year. We just wanted to make a quick update of what we have planned and been doing lately. So let's jump right in! Currently, we have a lot on the drawing board for Ducktopia. Some things are still just ideas, while other things are in the process of being fleshed out or implemented. To name a few ideas currently at the planning stage(all still in early stages, we won't promise all of these things will see the light of day):
- Biomes Biomes would affect the production of resources so that a given resource might be better to produce in one biome over another one.
- More consequences for ducks without a job Currently, we are discussing making ducks turn to a life of crime to support themselves if they don't get paid enough welfare and have been without a job for a long time. Where you then would require police ducks to apprehend these criminal ducks and rehabilitate them.
- Natural disasters This hasn't been discussed much yet but would add a chance of disasters like floods or meteors, which would create an extra challenge.
More buildings with building requirements
The last update introduced building requirements in the form of the need to have either a building within a certain radius or just in the city. To upgrade or place a building. However, that was just a first pass containing only a few buildings supporting it. In the next update, we expect to expand this to more buildings! In short: More buildings will require specific things before they can be built or upgraded.
More buildings with storage
Just as with the building requirements, the latest update introduced storage limits into the game. So that you cannot just hoard all of the resources and be set for life. This will also get some touch-ups bringing more content and will become more balanced.
Missions
We wanted to give you some more to do while your city grows, so in the next update, we introduce missions. Households will request that you e.g. build a building close by or you maintain a happiness level for a certain period of time. If you accept and complete these missions they will reward you. This could be a boost to the happiness of the household or a monetary reward. However, declining or failing them will make them unhappy. Missions are still a work in progress, but we wanted to share a little peek of it! (This is not the final design)
New notification system
With new things come new notifications, currently there are a lot of notifications in the game which can feel spammy and can be rather confusing, even for us. So we are creating a new notifications system! So to achieve this we plan to categorize the notifications. We even brought a small sneak peek!
Waterblocks
We also wanted to bring some more variation into the map, so we have created water blocks! Which functions as ground blocks, but with water! These are blocks your ducks can swim through but you can't place anything on top of them as it would sink. So for now they don't have a use outside of cosmetics but hopefully, in the next update we'll expand on these! OH! I almost forgot! Look at these sneak-peaks of how they look, but it's our secret!
Christmas models
Of course, we haven't forgotten about Christmas! Therefore, we are currently working on updating all models (hopefully) making them more Christmassy. If you aren't into the Christmas vibes you can, just like with the Halloween models, disable/enable them in the Mods menu. Now, have a look at these glorious Christmas models!
And of course a host of bug fixes! Is there anything we have forgotten? Anything you would like to see? Or just want to hang out and chill? Feel free to join our discord at: https://discord.gg/J7eCHGA Quack quack Llama Softworks

Happy Halloween! The Development version of Ducktopia is now going live, with some spooky additions as an extension of Halloween! This means some changes in UI, addition to gameplay consisting of upgrade requirements and storage limits.
Gameplay
Building requirements There have been added upgrades and build requirements. This means they can have requirements such as having other buildings within a certain radius or in the same city.
Storage limits A limit to food, water, and duckeronies storage has been added. This means you can not store an infinite amount of supplies and need to be more strategic with buildings compared to previously. Happiness Happiness is now more clearly get affected by different factors. This can also be seen more clearly in each ducks' information.
User Interface
New UI for Information boxes There is a new layout for information regarding buildings and ducks which makes it possible to show more information to the player. Locking for Notification The notification bar can be locked so it does not go up automatically by pressing the lock button on the notification bar.
Graphics
Scenic mode The scenic mode has been reworked so it is easier to control and give better information. Try it out by pressing tab. Bank A Bank has been added to increase the storage limit on duckeronies.
Modding
Halloween Halloween models for the ducks have been added. These can be toggled in the mods menu on the title screen.
Other
Research Research now takes the efficiency of research buildings, as well as how many research buildings exist when researching. Firestation Firestations are more reliable and are better at getting rid of fires they are targeting. Mass sell You can now mass sell by holding Shift with the Bulldozer active.
Bug fixes
- Fire is handled better.
- Research does not instantly finish overnight anymore.
- Research progress is now saved.
- Ducks can more easily be clicked on.
- Only the highest refresh rate available is now in the settings menu.
- Camera can no longer be moved while you are typing a name for your city.
- Fire hazard overlay values have been decreased to better fit with the current fire hazard risks.
- Some buildings could not be sold, this has been fixed.

- Fixed weird placement of details, now they can't be placed in front of entrances.
- Fixed a bug where you could select nonpresent ducks.
- Fixed bugs where ducks were stuck when loading.

The time has come! Ducktopia is ready for launch. We could not be more excited about being able to share with you what we have been working on! In this first release version, we have some of the features we wanted, but there is more to come! As we continue to build and expand upon the game, we will need your help so we can make the game even better. We would love to get your help with new ideas for features, bug fixes, and balance changes. We hope you enjoy the game and let us know if you have any ideas or feedback to make the game even better! We are already working on new features and changes to the game. We plan to create a "develop" branch so you can check out the new and exciting things we are working on, and we are excited to show it off and get your feedback and your thoughts. Some of the things we have our eye on developing further are:
- Change the way we display total production.
- Create new buildings and needs such as prisons and hospitals.
- Create biomes so different parts of the world handle production differently.
- Add more resources so there will be more to gather before being able to get everything.
- A creative mode where you can build to your heart's content.
- Modding support is also something we are looking into, so the community can bring their creativity to the game.
- There are a very large amount of resolution options, this is caused by the different refresh rate options. We are implementing a separate option for this in the future so it won't be as cluttered.
- If you save/load in the middle of researching something, your research will get cancelled and you will not get any research points back.
- After loading a save: When a building begins burning and you have a firestation, it often incorrectly states that no duck is available to fight this fire.
In this first image, which you can see above, is one of the first playable versions of Ducktopia (then called DuckCity). As you can see the UI was very crude, with awful sprites and little information. Besides that, there were only a few buildings to choose between and therefore not much gameplay.
In this second iteration, we took inspiration from games like "Cities: Skylines" and SimCity. In this iteration, there was more information in the UI, however, the bars in the right corner were never implemented to do anything but look pretty. At this time, more buildings also started to be added to the game, giving it more variation. You can also see we started to label the game build dates, so in this instance, the build is from 12/13/2019.
In this third iteration, the UI started to look a lot cleaner and satisfying. However, we were still not completely happy with it. We also started playing around with the lighting.
Soon after, the UI started looking more like how it is currently. In the 4th iteration, the UI still looked a little chunky. We felt like the UI was too big, and still lacking a lot of information. Also, the colors were dull and boring.
And here we are on the 5th and so far the final iteration. We are quite happy with this design and is the current design you will be using when playing the game. To make the UI even better, we added the option to choose between different color schemes so you can match the color that fits you the most! At this point, the building models have been updated with more details. Furthermore, more buildings have been added to give you even more variety! Remember to check out our Discord, where you are welcome to come and hang out and talk about the game. Also, check out our Twitter. So stay tuned for more updates and more quackery! - Ducktopia Linux Depot [145.29 M]
In Ducktopia you can:
- Shape the world just the way you want!
- Build up a city, that will keep your ducks happy (or angry, who knows?)
- Watch your unhappy ducks steal your duckeronies!
- Name every duck and building to whatever you would like!
- Help your ducks work at their preferable job and watch them walk around with worker outfits on.
Ducktopia is a game where you start out with an empty world. You are the creator, the artist, the mayor. You then lay out the ground, starting to create the world. With a Townhall placed you have started your very own city, that of course needs houses and workplaces to be able to flourish.
As your city grows bigger you'll reach milestones that unlocks new features and buildings to your city, which will help you grow the city big and self sustainable. While playing, you have to look out for the ducks happiness, and to maximize your production you'll have to make sure the right ducks work the proper places.
Name your buildings and ducks and zoom in to see them walk around with their small hats. Follow along as the ducks have conversations with each other. And take note of their traits and personalities.
