Merry Christmas everyone! We hope you are all staying safe.
Time to stop stalling and getting into what we have been working on!
Gameplay
More Requirements As was foretold we have been added more requirements for upgrading houses or building new buildings. Some buildings now require other buildings near them, before they can be placed or upgraded. A full list of these changes can be seen at the bottom of the page. Building Descriptions We have changed how we handle descriptions. It now gives more information along with always being up to date. Storage Limits We also did some work on adding and balancing storage, while trying to keep it fun you can see the changes at the bottom of the page. Missions Ducks have now become more demanding, and now want you to fulfill their wants! By building certain buildings or keeping the city happy. Accepting and completing the missions will give your ducks a happiness boost. However, if you are unable to complete the mission in time or choose to decline the mission, the ducks are going to dislike you a little bit gaining an unhappiness boost. We have added a preview of the missions UI, showing the notification for a mission, and the UI showing all accepted missions.
User Interface
New Notification system Notifications are now sorted into categories.
Graphics
Christmas Models Just as with the Halloween models, the models have been updated, to have a more Christmassy and wintery vibe. - However, this time is it not the ducks themselves, but all the buildings! These changes do nothing for the gameplay and are purely cosmetic. If you like the regular models more, the Christmas skin can be disabled in Mods. Water Blocks As mentioned before water blocks have been added to Ducktopia. These blocks are nothing more than cosmetic, and you cannot build on them. Ducks have, of course, no problem with swimming over the water to reach their destination.
Modding
The modding API is coming along, but far from stable so won't create guides or documentation for this until it is a bit more stable. Support for changing buildings models To make it easier for ourselves we have created a way to only replace a building's model. Which can also be used by modders to load their own models in replacing the normal models. Mod Configuartions We also created a new way of handling loading mods and remembering which mods were enabled.
Other
Light for Mouse At night, there is now a light at the mouse, slightly lighting up the area around the mouse.
Bug fixes

Coming Up
We are currently taking it a bit slower due to exams coming up soon and Christmas, but we already have planned some of the new things coming up! So we wanted to share some of it with you.
That's all we can share right now, we won't promise these features ever make it in. But we hope they will!

We hope you like the update! And from everyone at the Ducktopia team, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and thank you for staying around with us!
Welcome welcome, everyone!
Besides these mentioned ideas, we are also in the process of implementing new and exciting things! Which we hope to be able to deliver around the start of December! Let's dive into the cool updates we hope to bring to you in the next update!
More buildings with building requirements
The last update introduced building requirements in the form of the need to have either a building within a certain radius or just in the city. To upgrade or place a building. However, that was just a first pass containing only a few buildings supporting it. In the next update, we expect to expand this to more buildings! In short: More buildings will require specific things before they can be built or upgraded.
More buildings with storage
Just as with the building requirements, the latest update introduced storage limits into the game. So that you cannot just hoard all of the resources and be set for life. This will also get some touch-ups bringing more content and will become more balanced.
Missions
We wanted to give you some more to do while your city grows, so in the next update, we introduce missions. Households will request that you e.g. build a building close by or you maintain a happiness level for a certain period of time. If you accept and complete these missions they will reward you. This could be a boost to the happiness of the household or a monetary reward. However, declining or failing them will make them unhappy. Missions are still a work in progress, but we wanted to share a little peek of it! (This is not the final design)
New notification system
With new things come new notifications, currently there are a lot of notifications in the game which can feel spammy and can be rather confusing, even for us. So we are creating a new notifications system! So to achieve this we plan to categorize the notifications. We even brought a small sneak peek!
Waterblocks
We also wanted to bring some more variation into the map, so we have created water blocks! Which functions as ground blocks, but with water! These are blocks your ducks can swim through but you can't place anything on top of them as it would sink. So for now they don't have a use outside of cosmetics but hopefully, in the next update we'll expand on these! OH! I almost forgot! Look at these sneak-peaks of how they look, but it's our secret!
Christmas models
Of course, we haven't forgotten about Christmas! Therefore, we are currently working on updating all models (hopefully) making them more Christmassy. If you aren't into the Christmas vibes you can, just like with the Halloween models, disable/enable them in the Mods menu. Now, have a look at these glorious Christmas models! And of course a host of bug fixes! Is there anything we have forgotten? Anything you would like to see? Or just want to hang out and chill? The time has come! Ducktopia is ready for launch. We could not be more excited about being able to share with you what we have been working on!
There are a few bugs we already know of and are working hard on trying to fix, they are as follows:
It is crazy to think that we have gotten this far and created a game you will hopefully enjoy. One of the things we recently did was look back on some of the first playable version of the game and seeing the progress and changes we have made. One of the things that we have iterated over a lot is UI, as you will be able to see in the following screenshots. In this first image, which you can see above, is one of the first playable versions of Ducktopia (then called DuckCity). As you can see the UI was very crude, with awful sprites and little information. Besides that, there were only a few buildings to choose between and therefore not much gameplay. In this second iteration, we took inspiration from games like "Cities: Skylines" and SimCity. In this iteration, there was more information in the UI, however, the bars in the right corner were never implemented to do anything but look pretty. At this time, more buildings also started to be added to the game, giving it more variation. You can also see we started to label the game build dates, so in this instance, the build is from 12/13/2019. In this third iteration, the UI started to look a lot cleaner and satisfying. However, we were still not completely happy with it. We also started playing around with the lighting. Soon after, the UI started looking more like how it is currently. In the 4th iteration, the UI still looked a little chunky. We felt like the UI was too big, and still lacking a lot of information. Also, the colors were dull and boring. And here we are on the 5th and so far the final iteration. We are quite happy with this design and is the current design you will be using when playing the game. To make the UI even better, we added the option to choose between different color schemes so you can match the color that fits you the most! At this point, the building models have been updated with more details. Furthermore, more buildings have been added to give you even more variety! Remember to check out our Discord, where you are welcome to come and hang out and talk about the game. Also, check out our Twitter. So stay tuned for more updates and more quackery!
