Sheltered Update v1.8 - New Game Mode: Stasis

New Game Mode – Stasis

Survivors, Earth is dying. There will be no recovering from the apocalypse that man has unleashed onto the world. The land is swarming with mutated people and animals, the weather conditions become more extreme week by week and resources have become all but non-existent. Earth is no longer a home, you must reach out to the stars and find a new one…

Sheltered: Stasis - Objectives

In Stasis, our second scenario for Sheltered, you’ll be tasked with building and launching a rocket to leave Earth. The game will be complete if you successfully find all the rocket parts and launch the rocket, or, if your family dies/become unconscious. There are eight different endings for Stasis, depending on the success, or failure, of your mission. You’ll have 75 days to complete your mission before your shelter can no longer protect your family.

New Features

Wardrobe This allows the player to change the outfits/colours of their characters during the game. It must first be crafted by the player using the crafting bench. New planter functionality (With new fertilizer item)
  • The planter now has a new added state - ‘Wilting’, before it dies.
  • The planter can now use fertiliser to increase the yield of harvest.
  • The planter can now be harvested at any time (so long as there is something to harvest)
New UI label is displayed on the map for visited locations showing what items the location can contain (survival mode only).
  • This also tells the player which equipment they’ll need to unlock a hidden item (Stasis AND Survival).
Changing a party members loadout (weapon, equipped items and load carrying items) is now possible during an expedition (Using view map). Clipboard now shows more information.
  • There is a second tab on the clipboard panel. It shows the family stats and needs.
Unlockable, hidden items at locations (Require lockpick set, prospectors kit etc)
Locations with hidden items now show a question mark icon, which tells the player what they need to do to unlock the hidden items. The player can come back with appropriate equipment to unlock it.
Radio auto resolves now give the player more information (If someone was lost in the wasteland etc) Characters lost in the wasteland now spawn a quest in which you can release them from a prison. The character will then return to the shelter. Characters can now eat meat from animal traps without having to first create a freezer.
  • Other items harvested (leather) at that time will go into storage like normal
New Icon & text for damage taken from bleeding, suffocation and radiation will display when a character is in the shelter.
  • -1 health will appear above their head as floating text
Players can now reload their gun during combat (wasteland only). Ammunition is now present on the UI during combat, as is equipped armour.
  • We display ammo in the clip and ammo in party storage
Item Bin
  • The item bin is a new addition to the main survival mode. It is a solution to a problem we’ve had with player’s having to lose items when they return, and their storage is full. Now, any excess items not added to the main storage are added to the item bin on the surface. When it contains items, the lid appears off. When it’s empty the lid is on. Items contained are essentially an extended storage for the player, but items are regularly taken by passing people on the surface. The more items in the bin, when the bin men arrive, the more items they take.

Bug Fixes

Survival
  • Fix for missing child quest locking the game up when finding the child.
  • Fix for gas masks not showing up on character sprites during encounters (if equipped).
  • Fix for items going missing when an expedition returns if their inventory was full and they equipped a gas mask.
  • Fix for crash sites re-spawning at the same location when completed.
  • Characters permanently becoming sideways when deconstructing a bed that is being slept in.
  • Glitch where a single frame of the climbing out of the hatch animation would disappear.
  • Fix for weapons going missing when equipping them mid-expedition (using the map screen) if the player has full inventory and already has a weapon equipped.
  • Fix for NPC's weapons not appearing at the feet of the character who dropped them when disarmed in combat.
  • Hidden items should now work as expected when using a controller.
  • Journal/ Family status panel full controller support added.
  • Updated the planter’s hover-over text to have “plant condition” & “soil condition”
  • Fixed an issue with the planter where un-fertilised seeds would give less food/seeds/plants on stage 3 than stage 2
  • Fixed a bug where you wouldn’t be able to search a location which only had hidden items in it
  • Other minor bug fixes and improvements

One Last Thing…

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our players who took part in the Stasis beta and shared their feedback with us. You rock! To those survivors looking to escape Earth for the first time… Good luck, the wasteland just got a lot more dangerous.

Sheltered Update v1.7 – New Game Mode: Surrounded

    Surrounded – New Mode!

A new scenario has arrived as a free update for all Sheltered players!

    You’re Surrounded…

A family of three, desperately low on supplies, makes the tough decision to split-up. The father heads out into the wilderness to look for the vital supplies that will keep his family alive, telling them he’ll be back in 50 days with the resources to save them from starvation. The remaining family members, a mother and son, barricade themselves into their shelter, desperate to keep the horrors of the apocalypse at bay...but it’s not just the mutated and starving beasts they should fear. Seeing the family temporarily separated and weakened, gangs of bandits and marauders put their plans into action to try and evict the family from their shelter, by any means necessary. The family have faced bandits in the past, but something is different this time. These groups have found themselves bosses, powerful individuals that won’t go down easily… 50 Days Limited supplies No way to replenish your water You are alone You are surrounded...

Gameplay Changes for Surrounded – From Beta to Release

We just want to say a huge thank you to all the players who took the time to play and share their feedback during the beta for Surrounded. Your feedback has helped us craft the new Surrounded game mode into what it is today.
    • Toybox and bookshelf are now deconstructable from the start for the scenario.
    • Bosses now breach the shelter alone.
    • Bosses do significantly more damage to the shelter doors.
    • Bosses now take significantly less damage in combat - Each boss has separate resistance during combat.
    • Bosses will no longer fire a full clip during combat.
    • Animals will only spawn every 3 days.
    • Secret locations will no longer disappear when the player reloads the game.
    • Food and petrol now award 10 score for every unit the player has remaining at the end of the game.
    • Added controller support.
    • It no longer rains in the game. The player must make do with their starting amount of water for the duration of the game.

    Stasis: A Reworked World (Preview)

Survivors, When Stasis arrives in a future update you'll emerge in a world you won't recognise, a world of even greater decay and ruin than you would of ever experienced in an original Sheltered play through. Nothing rebuilt - it just got worse. The Unicube team have had some fun reworking some of the distinct locations that you've encountered so far. The main design point around the reworks being "how would they appear years after the original game". Below you'll be able to see a few examples of some of the backgrounds you'll be encountering in Stasis, with plenty more to come...

    Defibrillator

The next update will now include shelter inhabitants entering a brief period of unconsciousness before they die. This state is reached when the character takes damage that would normally kill them, either from combat or illnesses. In order to revive the unconscious member before they slip away into the eternal abyss you will need a fully charged defibrillator ready to zap them back to life. The defibrillator can be unlocked by playing through the new surrounded game mode, so giving it a play through will be extremely beneficial as you can now avoid the death of your characters. Also there’s no need to worry about power being out as the defibrillator will hold its charge for a brief period, this is handy when you are in a sticky situation. Recipe and Upgrade Pinning System

Hey Survivors, As you are aware Sheltered has a large array of items for you to scavenge and craft, which can lead to players having to memorise what specific items they should look for an expedition. This adds another unintentional layer of challenge when you know, you’re trying to keep everyone in your shelter alive. To address this the team have started working on a pinning system to both the crafting and upgrade panels, thus allowing you to pin a recipe or upgrade that will display a marker on the items you require to craft it. If/when you’ve acquired the correct number of items the market will disappear. If you have two recipes or upgrades that both require the same item, the marker on the specific item will not disappear until you have enough of it to satisfy for requirements for both. All going well this feature should be added into Sheltered when update 1.7 launches and will work on Surrounded, Stasis and the original Survival game mode. As always, thank you for your continued feedback and support, we look forward to hearing what you think of this feature when it goes live.

Sheltered - Update 4: Public Beta!

Hey Survivors, You’ve been enduring the apocalyptic wasteland for quite some time now. Some of you have flourished and created a future for your family. Many however, have perished and been claimed by the apocalypse. Now, the next stage of Sheltered is nearly upon you! Whether you’re a diehard player looking for even greater challenges or someone who wants a less harsh experience this update is for you! Now ask yourselves this...dare you take on the new Hardcore mode? Due to the size and scope of this update we’ll be launching it as a BETA today to ensure everything added runs smoothly. We plan to run this BETA for 10 days, starting today. This is subject to change. The Beta is open to everyone who owns Sheltered and you can access it by following these instructions:

    • Right click on Sheltered in Steam > Properties.
    • Head to Betas > input password “BetaForUpdate4” > select check code.
    • Select the “beta” branch from the drop-down box in the Betas tab.
    • Allow the title to update. You may need to verify the game cache by heading to Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache…
    • Launch the game!
Your feedback will be critical for letting us know of any bugs that slipped through the net so if you encounter any please let us know HERE. (You’ll need to sign up for a free Mantis account to do this.) If you don’t want to start fresh and want to bring your existing Shelter/Family into the BETA you can do it by following the instructions below. Please note if you carry over your save settings you will be locked into Normal difficulty and won’t be able to change it. Right click on Sheltered in Steam > Properties.
    • Head to Local Files > Browse Local Files.
    • Copy contents of folder “saves” to a secure location.
    • Once you’ve finished playing the beta, you can replace the newer “saves” folder with the older one.
Now let’s take a look at what you’ll be getting stuck into!
    • 3 brand new difficulty settings: Easy, Hard and Hardcore. The difficulty settings allow users to change the frequency of rain, resources, breaches, factions. It also defines how aggressive or docile expedition encounters are, the size of the map and whether fog of war is enabled or not. Players also have the option to create their own custom difficulty settings. This brings the total amount of difficulty settings to four, two of which have their own leaderboards. (Easy & Custom does not have leaderboards)
    • Updated the menu system to incorporate difficulty settings.
    • Fixed bug where the dog (and party) may not return from expeditions (this may not fix pre-existing issues in old saves)
    • Fixed bed covers layering issue
    • Fixed an issue where objects could be crafted on top of one another, or in places they should not be allowed (by the front doors)
    • Stopped paint eroding on walls
    • Removed some rogue pixels from a shelter door sprite
    • Updated breach tutorial popup text
    • Fixed bookshelf bug where it wouldn’t decrease the amount of books when deconstructed
    • Updated Horse Stable sprite
    • Stopped the family stating “the pet is hungry” hints when they are away from the shelter (Dog/Horse)
    • Stopped automated characters from repeatedly trying to use a bed which is at 0% integrity Stopped pets getting stuck in partially constructed rooms
    • Fixed a bug where two deconstruction panels opening at the same time would cause the game to pause until ESC/B is pressed
    • Fixed bug where breachers would not enter if there was a dead body blocking the door
    • Updated encounter summary “victory” panel artwork
    • Unity updated to fix input issues
Once the BETA comes to a close we’ll be rolling it out ASAP, pending any required bug fixes. We’re excited to hear what you think of this update so head over to the official discussion thread here and share your thoughts, experiences and custom difficulty schemes. As always, thank you for your support, you rock!

    Sheltered Hotfix

Survivors, We’ve been supporting Sheltered with updates since launch and we’ve been monitoring the feedback after each update to find out what the Sheltered community thinks. We discovered our latest update introduced a bug that affected a small percentage of Sheltered players, causing issues with the map and crafting bench. Here’s a list of changes: • Fixed an issue with map icons disappearing on both new and existing saves. • Fixed an issue with expedition members not returning to the Shelter when affected by the map issue. • Fixed an issue where the crafting bench panel would not scroll down for tier 2. Sheltered Raids Update V1.1

[img=http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/1477531776572697443/10A245DAC2D6970EA0EA39C83E0A472B45757BFA/] Sheltered’s now been out just over a month and we’ve been blown away by the response from both the Early Access veteran survivors and those that have just joined the wasteland.

We’re excited to announce that we’re releasing an update today that adds exciting new elements to the raids system.

We’ve been sifting through community feedback since launch and we’ve been hard at work on this update that we hope you’ll be excited about! So without further ado, here’s the changes in this update:

    Main changes:

    • 1v1 combat now initiates between an inhabitant and a raider when they get close to each other within the shelter. • New combat location “The Shelter”. • Close quarters weapons can be taken into combat within the shelter if the item is in the shelter inventory when the raid begins. (Weapons are automatically assigned based on strength and damage dealt.) • Traps now deal damage instead of killing NPC characters outright. • Inhabitants can wear Good and Excellent body armour during shelter combat, if the item is in the shelter inventory when the raid begins.

    Balancing tweaks and changes:

    • Inhabitants in the shelter can be controlled during a shelter breach. o Inhabitants with the cowardice trait still cannot be controlled during a shelter breach. • The murder action has been removed from the NPC raiders. • NPC raiders can still steal and break items whilst raiding the shelter. • Breach frequency has been tweaked to occur more often. • Characters are no longer automated or perform idle walking when a breach occurs. • Breachers face the door when breaking into the shelter. • Damage text appears next to traps that successfully hit breachers. • The amount of items NPCs can steal has been tweaked. So you’ll now have the ability to take the raiders on but you still have the opportunity to take advantage of hiding spots or running away from raiders.

We’d love to get your feedback on the update and everything Sheltered, so make sure you stop by the discussion forum! And if you like the update please give the announcement a thumbs up!

Love Dean, Sonny & Team17 *Thanks to survivor Veryinky for the image!

We still have plans for potential ways of improving the mechanics, but we think this is a step in the right direction. We’ve also made a couple bug fixes to fix issues that were affecting some Sheltered players.

Here’s the full list of changes:

    • Breaches will no longer occur before day 50. • Increased the length of time between breaches. • Fixed an issue causing the game to crash on Linux 32 bit operating systems. • Fixed an issue where characters would not complete crafting a shelter room on a new floor if ladder was placed in the centre of the room.

Your feedback continues to shape the direction of Sheltered so please keep it coming and if you liked the update please give the post a thumbs up!

    Survivors! We need your help!

    Hey there, survivors!

Come in and warm yourself up by the fire. I have a little food to spare so grab what you need, take a seat on the comfy chairs, and make yourselves comfortable. Anyway, now that you’re here we would like to talk to you about something really exciting. There will be new content available soon for Sheltered. We can’t say much about it at the moment. However, what we are looking for are a few willing participants who can help us out with some quick-turnaround feedback.

    Who are we looking for?

Ideally, we need players who • Are playing, or have played Sheltered with no less than 99 days in-game time, and still have this save file. • Possess a good all-round knowledge of Sheltered game play and features. • Will complete an in-depth open-ended survey about the content • After signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement, will not discuss the content, share screenshots, game play videos etc.

    Additionally ….

If you live in or around the Yorkshire (UK) area, we’d love to invite you to the Team17 shelter to play the game, and give us feedback. You would need to bring your Sheltered save file with you.

    Please note

We realise that you, the players, have bought Early Access to the game and we want to assure you that the content update will be coming to everyone eventually. This initial process is for refining the new game play content and we need select feedback for remote usability testing before rolling the update wider.

I want to help! What should I do now?

If you want to help out with this update, email usability@team17.com – with your name, and a link to your Steam account. If you’re interested in helping us out with any future remote testing opportunities, then you can register your interest on the Team17 usability webpage - http://www.team17.com/usability/ Unfortunately we can’t reply to everyone who wants to help out. If you don’t hear from us, we’d like to thank you in advance for your help. Many thanks, survivors! Janey_Team17

    Sheltered Hotfix

Survivors, You may notice a small update to Sheltered. We managed to fix an issue with save data not loading correctly if the game was saved whilst a character was crafting at the Laboratory or Ammunition Press. As this was an important fix we didn’t want to wait for the next big update. And while we were at it we made a change to the way you craft flashbangs, which are now constructed at the Ammunition Press instead of the Work Bench. If you missed the last update to Sheltered you should check out the Hatch Notes video to find more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eUy0SQQiN0 That’s all for now! Love Sonny, Dean & Team17

We’re also releasing a hotfix patch today for the infamous Sam Smith bug. Unfortunately those that experienced it will have all their characters remain as Sam Smith and their characters will be white, but that should be the only lasting effect. Everything else can be upgraded again, stats can be increased and objects can be moved. Thanks for your patience with this one! Keep the feedback coming and we’ll continue to do our best to make Sheltered even better. And if you like the update then please give it a thumbs up! Love Dean, Sonny & Team17

It’s time for Hatch Notes #2!

This tasty new update shakes things up in the food department. Canned rations are now different from ‘meat’, which must be cooked to prevent food poisoning. A brand new 3 tier craft able Freezer will keep that meat cold, preventing it from spoiling… because nobody needs a shelter filled with vomit. We’ve also added 2 new scenarios, a craftable water condenser and a host of bug fixes. Check out the Hatch Notes #2 video to see more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVaIS5fCLWk Here's the full list of changes: Scenarios · 2 new scenarios Objects •Water Condenser - Gathers moisture from the air to convert into usable water. •Meat Storage - Meat is now a different resource from canned rations. Meat must be stored in a freezer to prevent spoilage. Unlike canned rations, meat must be cooked to prevent food poisoning. •Freezers - Three new tiers of a craftable object that allow the player to store meat. Visual and UI Improvements •Updated moon sprite. •Added more scenery to the ground above the shelter. •Added new highlight to shelter room placement. •Changed the highlight when moving objects in the shelter. •Added an icon to the Work Bench table indicating if player has available resources to craft item. •Indicator added to the intercom to show when someone is at the door. Bug Fixes •NPC’s with guns now have a chance of having bullets to use in combat. •Added text to the quest section of the journal for when the player has no active quests. •Changed the way trade values are assigned, no more uneven trades. •Protection Racket NPC now damage filters when they leave the shelter if the intercom was ignored. •Exiting the game when the recycling plant is in use will no longer cause you to lose your items. •Airport icon re-added to the map. •Updated description of the Laboratory to include the intelligence level needed to craft homemade medicine. •Updated the description of flashbang, grenade and pipe bombs to explain how to use them on expeditions. •Luxury Toilet sprite changed so less space is taken up in the shelter. •Audio now correctly plays when disarm attempt is blocked. •Fixed an issue where using bombs in scenario boss encounter would occasionally soft lock the game. •Luxury Shower description changed to say it reduces trauma when used. •Increased the time between character hints being displayed. •Changed some of the quest text for The Super Irritating Guy. •Characters now mention when the shelter is out of power and the generator needs fuel. If you missed it, make sure you check out our ‘Beneath the Surface’ update to hear more about the changes to combat and the addition of quests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m0CmBIQeKs You survivors continue to be an amazing community and your support and feedback is really appreciated, so keep it coming! Combat and Quests Update!

Survivors! As we explained in the last announcement, we’ve changed the way that we deliver you updates. We’ve now got to a stage where Steam and Xbox One updates will hit at the same time, with the same content. We’re also splitting our updates into two types, ‘Hatch notes’ and bigger themed updates like this one! The Combat and Quest update shakes things up in a number of ways. We’ve changed the way the combat looks, with a new interface and new options. You can now steal from enemies, disarm them or even inflict a bleeding status effect on them. There are now quests where NPC’s in the wasteland will give you tasks, so look out for yellow markers on your map. And if you hear a knock on your door, it may be the beginning of a new scenario, a different form of quests with new tasks and challenges. Leaderboard Update!

    Survivors,

[img=http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/423691296964709797/DCE2A4E1E8178504010C0DB69371C862FD54D6E7/] It’s been a little while since our last update, we’ve been busy working on the game and getting the development process in line so that we can release regular updates. We really appreciate your patience and feedback and we’re super excited about todays update and the ones to follow. One of the top requested features that we’ve seen since Sheltered entered Early Access is the introduction of leaderboards, so you have something to make all the cannibalism, murdering, or peaceful pillaging of the nuclear wasteland worth it. As well as the introduction of the leaderboards in this update, there’s also some fixes: -Fixed an issue with expedition characters becoming stuck if shelter doors are left closed. -Fixed an issue with items vanishing when transferred between storage areas. -Added a localisation string for the infection status. -Fixed an issue where recruited characters with food poisoning did not vomit. We’re really looking forward to seeing a bit of competition in the leaderboards, and seeing just how long you guys manage to survive. And as usual keep the feedback coming! Love Sonny, Dean & Team 17

Panting, scared, the shelter airlock smashes down behind you. You wish you did not have to go outside, but you do. It would be easier to give up. But you don’t. The hardship, the hunger, the thirst. The fear. You keep reminding yourself why you stay alive. Why you do this. Then you hear it. “Daddy you’re back.” You wife’s face lights up and you open a bag full of medical supplies. You need not tell her how you got them. You simply enjoy your small victory in this, the harshest of times. In the post-apocalyptic world, you must keep your family alive in your underground bunker in this deep strategy game from Unicube...

Sheltered is a post-apocalyptic disaster management game that gives a whole new meaning to the term “nuclear family”. Given a head-start over the billions lost in a nuclear holocaust, you must gather as many supplies as possible en route to the concrete underground shelter that will soon become your family home for the foreseeable dreary future.

With all hope lost, how will you cope in this bleak new world? How you handle the many moral choices you'll encounter on a daily basis could be the difference between your family surviving or dying. Combat claustrophobia, radiation and mental exhaustion as you cling desperately to life in the cramp, cold and scary underground shelter. You’ll have to leave the scant protection the shelter offers behind as you’re forced to venture outside into the dangerous desolate wasteland to scavenge for vital supplies which could ensure your families survival for just one more day.
