Patch 0.18: German Civilization

First of all, in this patch, "city" is renamed "civilization" and all existing cities are renamed to its corresponding civilizations (Memphis -> Egyptian). Apart from the wording change, everything else should still work as is. And we have a new civilization in this patch: German.

  • Cologne Cathedral: When constructed, generate one-time science equivalent to the cost of the most expensive technology in the current age. All buildings that produce science (excluding Clone Lab) get +1 Production Multiplier. This wonder can be upgraded and each additional upgrade provides +1 Production Multiplier to all buildings that produce science (excluding Clone Lab)
  • Elbphilharmonie: All buildings within 3 tile range get +1 Production Multiplier for each adjacent building that has different tier

Natural Wonders


  • Zugspitze: For each unlocked age, get one point that can be used to provide one extra level to your chosen Great Person this run
  • Rhine Gorge: +2 Happiness for each wonder within 2 tile range
  • Black Forest: When discovered, reveals all wood tiles on the map, spawn water on all adjacent tiles that do not have deposits. All buildings that consume Wood or Lumber get +5 Production Multiplier

Patch 0.17.0: Festival + Age Wisdom

Festival


Positive Happiness (max. 50) is converted into festival points. For every 100 festival points, your empire enters a festival cycle, granting a significant map-specific boost.
  • Saturnalia (Rome): Alps no longer increases Consumption Multiplier
  • Panathenaea (Athens): Poseidon provides +1 Production Multiplier to all buildings
  • Opet (Memphis): Great Sphinx no longer increases Consumption Multiplier
  • Lunar New Year (Beijing): Great Wall provides double the boost to buildings. Porcelain Tower provides +1 level to all great people from this run
  • Thanksgiving (New York): Wall Street provides double the boost to buildings and applies to Mutual Fund, Hedge Fund and Bitcoin Miner. Research Funds get +5 Production Multiplier
  • Akitu (Babylon): Ziggurat Of Ur and Euphrates River apply to buildings unlocked in the current age
  • Aoi Matsuri (Kyoto): Mount Fuji generates double the warp

Age Wisdom


Age Wisdom provides +1 equivalent level of eligible great people of that age. It can be upgraded with permanent great people shards of eligible great people:
  • Level 1 costs shards that are equivalent to upgrading great people to level 1 (1)
  • Level 2 costs shards that are equivalent to upgrading great people to level 2 (3)
  • Level 3 costs shards that are equivalent to upgrading great people to level 3 (7)
  • Level 4 costs shards that are equivalent to upgrading great people to level 4 (15)
  • ...
Please note that when upgrading account rank from Tribune to Quaestor, Age Wisdom cannot be carried over

  • To celebrate Industry Idle 1.0 release, from now until Oct. 15, All Industrial Age buildings get +1 Production Multiplier
  • Research Lab's base consumption and production are increased by 50%

Patch 0.16.0: Balancing & QoL

0.16.0 mostly focuses on bugfixes and QoLs. However, the earliest two maps (Rome and Athens) deserve some love - they are buffed a bit to bring them more in line with newer maps.

Rome


  • Colosseum: Chariot Workshops are exempt from -1 happiness. Consumes 10 chariots and produce 10 happiness. Each unlocked age gives 2 extra happiness
  • Grotta Azzurra: When discovered, all your Tier I buildings get +5 Level and +1 Production, Worker Capacity and Storage Multiplier
  • Julius Caesar: +2 Production Multiplier, Storage Multiplier for Gold Mining Camp (Rome Exclusive)

Athens


  • Aphrodite: +2 Builder Capacity Multiplier for each level when upgrading buildings over Level 20. All unlocked Classical Age permanent great people get +1 level this run
  • Poseidon: All adjacent buildings get free upgrades to Level 25 and +N Production, Worker Capacity and Storage Multiplier. N = Tier of the building

Patch 0.15.0: Kyoto

New Map: Kyoto



Wonders


  • Itsukushima Shrine: When all technologies within an age are unlocked, generate one-time science equivalent to the cost of the cheapest technology in the next age
  • Osaka Castle: Provide power to all tiles within 2 tile range. Allow electrification of science producing buildings (including Clone Lab)
  • Golden Pavilion: All buildings within 3 tile range get +1 Production Multiplier for each adjacent building that produces any of its consumed resources

Natural Wonders


  • Kanagawa: All great people of the current age get an additional level for this run (excluding Zenobia)
  • Mount Fuji: When Petra is built next to it, Petra gets +8h Warp storage. When the game is running, generate 20 warp every minute in Petra (not accelerated by Petra itself, not generating when the game is offline)

Achievement


  • Heian-ky: Rebirth with at least 1 Extra Great Person in Kyoto (Reach 64M Empire Value when rebirth)

Balancing Changes


  • Socialism Level 4/5 changes from the most expensive to the cheapest technology in World Wars/Cold War era
  • Ziggurat of Ur: the effect no longer applies to buildings that produce workers. The effect only applies to buildings unlocked in the previous ages (Stone Age ~ Current Age - 1)
  • Euphrates River: the effect only applies to buildings unlocked in the previous ages (Stone Age ~ Current Age - 1)
  • Petra: now allows up to 16x speed up (if your CPU can run the simulation at that speed)

Performance Optimizations


  • Smooth Ticking: the game does logic calculations of each cycle in one frame before - it is quite fast for a small empire but as the empire grows, the calculation takes longer, resulting in frame rate drops. This optimization will instead spread the calculation among all frames within a cycle, which can help eliminate the frame rate drops. However, it will not reduce the total computation time (in fact it might even increase a bit due to overhead)
  • Transport Plan Cache: Every cycle, each building calculates the best transport plan based on its settings - this process requires high CPU power. Enabling Transport Plan Cache will attempt to cache the result of the transport plan if it is still valid and therefore reduce CPU usage and frame rate drop. This would significantly speed up the logic computations. It needs to be turned on manually in Options -> Gameplay -> Performance

Contextual Tutorials


In this version, tutorials have been revamped - instead of a wall of text when you first start the game, now the tutorial will pop up when certain mechanisms become available. The "contextual tutorial" covers the following topic: Happiness / Wonder / Great People / Science / Worker / Storage / Tradition / Electricity. You can always go through them in Help -> Tutorial

Other Changes


  • Warehouse/Caravansary should not reset import settings when production multiplier changes - instead each transport will only transport partially. There is also a warning in the UI if this happens

You can unlock Ideology by building Big Ben (Unlocked by Capitalism). Big Ben also provides +2 Science From Busy Workers.

New Buildings


There are some breaking changes regarding Livestock Farm - it is split into two buildings: Poultry Farm which only produces meat and Dairy Farm which only produces milk. To help with this transition, existing livestock farms will continue to work but can no longer be built. Dido still provides boost to Livestock Farm in 0.14 but will be removed in 0.15.
  • Add "Poultry Farm": 2x Wheat -> 2 Meat
  • Add "Dairy Farm": 2x Wheat -> 2 Milk
  • Add "Poetry School": 2x Paper + 1x Alcohol -> 2 x Poem
  • Deprecate "Livestock Farm": existing livestock farms will continue to work but you cannot build new livestock farms
  • Dido now boosts Dairy Farm and Poultry Farm

New Wonder


  • Large Hadron Collider: All Information Age great people get +2 level for this run. This wonder can be upgraded and each additional upgrade provides +1 level to all Information Age great people for this run (Unlocked by Virtual Reality)

Other Changes


  • Clone Factory will no longer sustain itself - it is required to transport resources from a building that produces the resource to be cloned (e.g. If you want to clone Super Computers, the clone factory can only use Super Computers directly transported from Super Computer Labs. Super Computers stored in Warehouse/Caranvansary/Clone Factory cannot be used)
  • Transports to buildings that produce workers no longer require workers. This will help with worker domino collapse issue
  • When upgrading wonders (Internation Space Station, Marina Bay Sands, Palm Jumeirah, Alderson Disk, Dyson Sphere, Matrioshka's Brain, Luxor Temple Chogha Zanbil), the builder capacity will increase linearly with the level
  • Matrioshka's Brain: each additional upgrade provides +1 Production Multiplier for buildings that produce Science
  • Geography research will increase the explorer's range to 2; Steam Engine research will increase the explorer's range to 3; Aviation will increase explorer's range to 4
  • Peacekeeper is unlocked by Financial Arbitrage (instead of Virtual Reality)
  • When an Information Age wonder is being upgraded, it will continue to provide boost

Bugfix


  • Fix a bug where Future achievement is not correctly awarded

New Map: Babylon


Babylon is a supporter pack map. Every week, one of the supporter map is available for all players (including free to play players)

Unique Wonders


  • Ziggurat of Ur: Every 10 happiness (capped) provides +1 Production Multiplier to all buildings (max = number of unlocked ages / 2). Wonders (incl. Natural) no longer provide +1 Happiness. The effect can be turned off.
  • Tower of Babel: Provides +2 Production Multiplier to all buildings that has at least one working building located adjacent to the wonder
  • Wall of Babylon: All buildings get +N Storage Multiplier. N = number of unlocked ages / 2

Natural Wonders


  • Zagros Mountains: All adjacent buildings that have less than 5 Production Multiplier get +2 Production Multiplier. Double the effect of Nebuchadnezzar II (Great Person)
  • Euphrates River: Every 10% of busy workers that in production (not transporting) provides +1 Production Multiplier to all buildings that do not produce workers (max = number of unlocked ages / 2). When the Hanging Garden is built next to it, the Hanging Garden gets +1 effect for each age after the Hanging Garden is unlocked. Patch 0.11.0: Religion & QoL

Patch 0.11.0 introduces a new Religion system, plus two important QoL changes. Before going into the details, I am very happy to announce that more than 500 players have purchased the supporter pack! As mentioned before, one copy of the supporter pack is roughly equivalent to one day's server cost - this help fund the game's server for 500 days, until 1 July 2025!

An Update on Monetization


First of all, a big thank-you to all of you who've purchased the supporter pack: we have more than 300 people who've supported the game. One copy of the support pack (after Steam's share and tax) covers about a day's server cost, which means that we've secured about a year's server cost! Currently, the supporter pack does not contain additional content. But as I previously mentioned, I will start to add content to the supporter pack once the base game is in a good state. Here's my plan:
  • The whole tech tree will be available in the base game (free)
  • The supporter pack will include additional maps (which will add new content & mechanisms)
  • Just like in Industry Idle, each week, one of the premium maps will be available for free-to-play as well
I feel this strikes the best balance of "providing value for the supporter pack" and "not making the game pay to win". If you have already purchased the supporter pack, there's no need to do anything: all the new content will be available for you when they are released. Patch 0.8.0: Cold War

Cold War Tech Tree


The Cold War tech tree has been greatly expanded compared to the original plan. It was planned to be a relatively short era with around 8 tech. Now it features 12 tech! Not only that, The Cold War also features a large collection of great people. Normally, the production buildings are boosted by great people from the next era. But since we are reaching the end of the tech tree, most of the production buildings in the Cold War are boosted by the great people from the same era. Also, if you are using a high DPI screen, now the game will show HD textures! This should have been done versions ago, but I don't have a high DPI screen, so it's a bit hard for me to test this. Also a rare bug that causes offline time warp compensation not being correctly issued has been fixed.

  • Atomium: All buildings that produce science within 2 tile range get +5 Production Multiplier. Generate science based on science production within 2 tile range

Patch 0.5.0: The World Wars Era!

This is the biggest patch since the early access launch: it took me hours to collect all the changes and I am sure I have missed a lot. Gameplay


  • Buildings that produce science will continue to produce science even if its storage is full (if there's another output, the other output will not be produced)
  • Each level of permanent Great People provides 5 workers in your Home Building
  • The number of workers required for production has been changed to the sum of all resources consumed and produced after multipliers (except electrification). Resources that do not take storage (e.g. Science or Power) do not count
  • All buildings that produce science get ~2.5x more science output
  • Electricity has been reworked: now power plants will provide power to adjacent tiles. Certain buildings will require power to function and need to be built on top of a tile with power - they also extend the power grid to its adjacent tiles. Electrification is more efficient for buildings that require power.
  • Offline time should now be more reliable. Thanks to all players providing logs and reports, I have located the main reason why sometimes offline production is missing. This usually happens when the initial connection to the server is timed out (either due to a network hiccup or Steam authentication API timeout). Eventually, when the connection is established, the game has already been running for a while and the server will refuse to grant offline time due to the mismatch. I have added a special handling of this case. If this happens, the whole offline time will be converted to warp in Petra (because offline production is no longer possible). You will get an in-game notification about this.

Balancing


  • Increase the empire value of deposits that are discovered in later ages. This will trickle down to all the downstream resources

Permanent Great People Carry Over Change for Tribune Rank Up (Rank 1 -> 2)


You can play the full game as Tribune if you do not plan to participate in the optional online features. To acquire unrestricted access to the online features, you will need to upgrade to Quaestor. This is an anti-bot measure to keep the game free for everyone. Previously permanent great people up to level 2 can be carried over, this has been relaxed as follows:
  • Up to Level 3 for Bronze, Iron and Classical Age
  • Up to Level 2 for Middle Age, Renaissance and Industrial Age
  • Up to Level 1 for World Wars, Cold War and Information Age

  • Wonder: Grand Bazaar: Manage all your markets. Adjacent caravansaries get +5 Production and Storage Multiplier. Adjacent markets get different trades (Education)

Warehouse Enhancement


  • Export Below Max Amount: Allow other buildings to transport a resource from this building even when its amount is below the max amount
  • Export to the Same Type: allow other buildings of the same type to transport a resource from this building
  • Autopilot Setting: Require Storage < Cap - autopilot will only transport resources whose amount in storage is below the cap

Player Trade Rework


  • You can fill a trade from multiple caravansaries at once
  • Show tiles with active trades on the world map
  • Sea Trades (unlocked by Geography with 1% Tariff. Optics reduces tariff to 0.5%. Capitalism reduces tariff to 0.1%)
  • Production multipliers will now apply to Caravansary and Warehouse - it will increase the resource transport capacity

Market Rework


  • All markets will have the same trades, different markets still have different price fluctuations
  • Market trade amount will be based on the value of the buy and sell resources
  • Markets will have less price fluctuation, which will be based on the tier difference between the buy and sell resources Selling a low-tier resource and buying a high-tier resource will result in positive price fluctuation and vice versa
  • Market trades will update immediately after a new resource has been unlocked

  • Oxford University: Each building upgrade in your empire provides +5 Science per cycle (from +1 Science per cycle)

Patch Notes: 0.2.0 - 10 New Great People, 3 New Wonders and 2 Gameplay Changes

It's been a week since the early access release! Since then, we have had 12 small patches: fixing bugs and improving QoL. In fact, lots of important QoLs like Transport Preference, Max Transport Distance, Favorite Buildings, and Parallel Construction Transports have been shipped in these daily patches. We have also reached more than 1,000 concurrent players! (SteamDB reports 1,060, and the game server reports 1,221). The server has been under stress but luckily there were only 2 crashes, both happened while I was awake so I was able to minimize the impact. Also, I am happy to see lots of players have reached Quaestor - I know the 48-hour playtime requirement is annoying, but it is the only viable way to keep the server running and keep the base game free. I am grateful for the support I get from our community: we have volunteer moderators helping with game chat, we have translators helping localize the game (Now CivIdle speaks 11 languages!), and I have received several donations from the players helping cover the server expense. If you want to support the game and keep it running, I will release a "Supporter Pack" on Steam in the future, with some extra perks. If you have donated, feel free to ping me (@FishPond on Discord) and I will give you a supporter pack key when it is available. We also have 100+ reviews on Steam at 75% positive (as of writing). For those of you who enjoyed this game, I hope you will enjoy this content patch!   • Great Mosque of Samarra: +1 building vision range. Reveal 5 random unexplored deposit tiles and build a level 10 resource extraction building on each (Road & Wheel)
  • Mogao Caves: +1 happiness for every 10% of busy workers. All adjacent shrines are exempt from -1 happiness (Theocracy)

Gameplay


  • Entering a new age will allow picking a new great person of each unlocked age (e.g. Entering the Classical Age will allow picking 1 Classical Age + 1 Iron Age + 1 Bronze Age great person). If you pick the same great person more than once, each additional great person will have a diminishing effect during this run. However, all of them will become permanent Great Person when you rebirth (e.g. If you have 3 Confucius from this run, pick the fourth Confucius will have 1/4 of the effect. When you rebirth, you will get 4 Confucius for permanent upgrade)
  • Extra Great Person from Total Empire Value will be chosen from Great People up to Current Age + 1

Misc


  • Version number format has been changed. The new format is 'X.Y.Z Build W'. Y will increase for the weekly content update. Z will increase for the daily QoL/hotfix update. W is a unique number that is produced by the build system. Patch notes will be written against X.Y.Z. If you want to report a bug, please include build number
