Teaser: Prof. Heinrich Dresher

Prof. Heinrich Dresher is a former council member of the Coalition for intergalactic Travel (CIT) and is thus regarded as one of their great pioneers. He is driven by his thirst for knowledge which eventually led him to a feud with the Yggdrasil Foundation. When CIT refused to back him up, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
Dresher betrayed CIT and stole their sensitive research data to provide it to his new organization the Circle of Omniscience. He knows exactly that CIT would never dare to make a move against him. The Circles current goal is a mystery, but they are rumored to have struck a deal with the Crimson Wolves. Something big is about to happen. We hope that you liked this little teaser as well! We are planning to share some more substantial information about the DLC next week, so keep an eye out for that! Enjoy! Glimmerlight Games

Teaser: Crimson Wolves

The Crimson Wolves are regarded as one of the most dangerous groups of mercenaries in the entire galaxy. It is said that their forces could even rival official military alliances. Despite that they follow a simple philosophy: They dont pick fights they arent paid for.
Their leaders name is Kroger. While hes often portrayed as a fierce maniac, in reality he always keeps a calm mind. As long as theres enough money on the table, hes willing to take any contract be it the extermination of relentless pirates or the besiegement of a highly militarized planet. Usually he acts as the Commander himself. And soon he will meet his match. We hope you enjoyed our next little teaser! Glimmerlight Games

Teaser: Coalition for Intergalactic Travel

The Coalition for intergalactic Travel (CIT) emerged from a collaboration between some illustrious pioneers who all shared the same goal: To expand the reach of humanity beyond a single galaxy. Their greatest invention to date is the Exo spaceship, which has already revolutionized travels between solar systems far apart from one another. If they manage to refine it even further, who knows where it might lead them? CIT is governed by a council of dedicated scientists while their research missions are conducted by their Commanders.
Lucas works as an assistant for CITs Commanders, serving as the link between them and the inhabitants of their colonies. Hes rather excitable and tends to get along with everyone. Usually he tries to steer away from conflicts, but he will soon realize that CITs newest Commander is not as hesitant. We hope you enjoyed this little teaser! The topic resulted from a poll on our Discord. We are planning to provide you with more teasers like this in the coming weeks. So you might want to keep an eye out for more polls and stay tuned for more! Enjoy! Glimmerlight Games

The Next Major Update

Hey everyone, for the last few months we have been hard at work on the next big update for Planet S and we are happy to finally talk about it! As you might have already guessed from our teaser article two weeks ago, it will be a bit different from previous updates. We won't go into every detail yet but the next big update will mainly focus on new end game content (both multiplayer and singleplayer) as well as scenario modding for singleplayer. Building on that we are also going to release a DLC for Planet S. Over the last two years there were many of you who asked for ways to support and this will be a way to do that while getting something back in return. The DLC will add a campagne with a story and different missions to play. We are aiming for a release within the next two months so expect more infos soon!
In other news as you might have already noticed we changed our name from TeamJA to Glimmerlight Games! We feel better about that name moving forward and it should also be easier to pronounce internationally. That's all for now! [strike]TeamJA[/strike] Glimmerlight Games :)

Planet S Version 1.1.0 - Modding Update

Hey everyone! The Modding Update is here adding the modding API and support for the Steam Workshop!

NEW Steam Workshop support:

You can create mods using the now available editor "Planet S Tools". It enables you to create assets for Planet S including:

  • Planet types
  • Items
  • Population types
  • Resources
  • Ambient objects (such as trees & rocks)
  • Rockets
  • Buildings
  • Spaceships
  • Technologies
  • and some other things like building menu entries or tile types
This guide explains the basics to get into modding Planet S: [Creating mods for Planet S] For now there is one example mod available in the Workshop. It primary serves as an example for people creating mods but it also adds a bit of content to explore, as this update doesn't add content to the base game. We will expand the documentation and add more examples in the future but if you have any questions or if you need help with mods or modding then check out our new Discord section!

DirectX 12:

The game now supports DirectX 12 which should improve compatibility across the board. You can now choose between DirectX 12 and Vulkan on Windows when starting the game.

Linux:

The game now also ships with a native linux version for both the game and the new tools. This has been a long time in the making and should provide a better experience and performance on Linux devices and the Steam Deck. There might be some bugs that slipped through testing so please let us know if you find any!

Planet S Modding Update Announcement

Hey everyone! We are back with good news regarding the next big update for Planet S! The Modding Update will release next week on the 31st of May. The update won't bring any new content additions but a hand full of small changes, technical upgrades and of course modding support with Steam Workshop integration! Here is a quick overview:

  • Modding Support: You will be able to add your own new content to the game or easily download mods that other players created via the Steam Workshop! The following types of content will be officially supported by our modding API: [olist]
  • World types
  • Planet types
  • Buildings
  • Spaceships
  • Population types
  • Resources
  • Items
  • "Ambient objects" (like trees, rocks...)
  • Rocket types
  • Technologies
  • Turret types
  • Tile types
  • Building menu entries [/olist] We will also start shipping a basic editor to create things like buildings or spaceships which will also help you to easily upload your mod to the Workshop. We will also increase the limits for building types and planets per world to make room for more player content. There are still a couple of limitations by the nature of the game like polygon limitations for models but we are open to increase these in the future as needed. Oh and Workshop mods that only use the official API should also work no problem in multiplayer matches! We will release an example mod and some guidance on how to get started on release day and then go from there!
  • DirectX 12: Another huge technical addition will be support for DirectX 12. After the update you will be able to choose if you want to use DX12 or Vulkan on Windows. Our hopes is that this will improve compatibility, especially with older drivers and Intel iGPUs.
  • Native Linux Support: This has also been in the works for quite a while now and our plans is to have a fully native Linux port ready when the update releases. This should bring better performance and stability for anyone who is using Linux or their Steam Deck to play Planet S, no more translation layer required!
  • Multiple performance and QoL improvements
Release time zones: Central European Time (CET): 8 pm Eastern Time (ET): 2 pm Pacific Time (PT): 11 am

Planet S Version 1.0

Hey everyone! The time has finally come! After over 1 year of Early Access and even more years in development its finally time for Planet S to leave Early Access. Its been a wild journey and we are extremly thankful for everyone who followed us on this journey until now. As we previously mentioned, this update doesn't contain anything new. Its almost the same as version 0.6.9 as we wanted to release with a stable version instead of a feature packed but also buggy version.

What's next?

We will continue to address any remaining issues in the coming weeks and months with additional patches and a few more QoL improvements. We are also still working on an option to start a more fast pace round so that will come very soon as well. The next thing to look out for after that will be the Modding Update that will hopefully be ready sometime next spring. So its not all over just yet. [previewyoutube=vnvPt6bdsk8;full][/previewyoutube] Again we are super thankful for this interesting experience and all the things we learned as well as for all the great feedback and support we have received over the last year! Planet S - State of the game #14

Hey everyone! Welcome back to this months (belated) state of the game! We didn't really have time to write one in time at the beginning of September as we prioritized bug fixing after the Victory Update. On that note: Thanks for the great feedback and patience after the update as a lot of problems showed up really quickly. We tried our best to test as much as possible before release but a dynamic system like the bot is very hard to test. But we are happy to report (and you probably noticed that as well) that the stability is pretty much back to the level it was at before the update.

Roadmap:

The Victory Update was the last big update that we had planned for the Early Access period. The next step will then be to release the game with version 1.0.0! We already talked about this in a previous post but this will be our plan for the road to the full release: [olist]
  • We are currently working on a "bigger" patch which will release with version 0.6.7 or 0.6.8 which will bring a bunch of requested QoL improvements as well as some balancing improvements plus some additional bug fixes.
  • We will then monitor the games state (bugs and other problems) and patch any issues that come up.
  • Update 1.0.0 will then release as soon as we find the game to be really stable. Update 1.0.0 will not contain any new features or changes but will instead be the latest version promoted to 1.0.0 so that the release version is as stable as prossible. [/olist]

    Future:

So whats the plan after the full release? We will continue to fix issues and bring small improvements from time to time but we will take a break from developing any big features for some time. But there will be at least one more major update in the future: The Modding / Workshop Update! We can finally start planning for proper modding support now that most systems in the game are stable. We don't have an ETA for this update yet but it will probably take some time so our guess is that it will release in spring 2024.

    Current state:

    Big TODOs:

    • Modding support - Coming with the Workshop Update in the future
    • "Large planets" world type - We are currently investigating if that technically possible or if it will cause any problems / negatively impact the game in any way
    • An option to speed up the game through a world option for faster paced more competetive multiplayer rounds (The game speed itself will be the same but buildings and other stuff will work faster or consume less resources)

    Quality of life:

Here is a list of QoL changes that are in the works or on our TODO list:
    • Auto upgrade mode for the city center
    • Double click spaceship groups to jump to the group
    • Idle spaceships selection key
    • Ability to save and load flag presets
    • A world option to increase or decrease the amount of resources generated in if limited resources are enabled

    Bugs:

As we have already mentioned before: The Victory Update had quite a few bugs but we managed to squasch most of them but not all. Here is a current list of bugs that we are working on at the moment.
    • There is a rare but annoying bug that can cause items and credits to desync in multiplayer. If you have a savegame in which that happens reliably then please send it to us via Discord or to support@teamja.dev!
    • Some people seem to experience a savegame loading issue but we haven't been able to reproduce it. If you have a savegame in which that happens reliably then please send it to us via Discord or to support@teamja.dev!
    • Easy bots can currently crash the game if they try to colonize a gas planet
    • There is another rare crash caused by bots in general that can occure during combat
    • There is a rare bug that can cause a crash when entering the loading screen
Thats it for this months SotG! This might also be the last SotG for now as we want to focus on the full release! Thank you all again for the crazy journey from the beginning of the Early Access phase until now! TeamJA

Planet S is a real-time strategy game where your goal is to colonize multiple planets in a solar system to advance your civilization, build a city and supply it to grow your faction.

    Procedural planets

The world consists of up to 16 procedurally generated planets which you can colonize. A planets type affects things like the appearance, the farm productivity and the kind of resources you can find on it. Every player starts the game with a spaceship and enough materials to colonize their first planet. Uncolonized planets can be claimed by building a spaceport on it. Once you claimed a planet, you can integrate it into your economy!

    Build your civilization

To advance your faction and unlock new buildings you need to attract residents and provide them the goods they require. By gaining more and more residents, you will unlock new production chains which will increase in complexity. At some point, your first planet won't be able to supply you with the resources you need, so you need to expand to other planets.

    Choose your path

While you start your population with workers, you need to make a decision when you advance to the second tier. You can upgrade your residents to the science or military civilization type. You can adjust the direction in an adjacent city center. Your decision will determine your path for the game and set a focus on either a more peacefully or a violent way of playing and winning the game. It may be rational to carefully consider your decision and adapt to the situation you are in.

Residents of a civilization type generate either science or military research points, which you can invest into research. The two research trees unlock bonuses and unique buildings for the corresponding civilization type. Through that, the game experience will rely heavily on the path you select.

    Multiplayer

You can play alone or with up to three friends. You can either practice diplomacy and negotiate agreements, or act militarily against each other. Coupled with the fact that each player can build his civilization differently, every game remains exciting.
