CreatorCrate PREPARING FOR LAUNCH Update 1.1.1

We're almost ready for the Steam launch on August 11! Here's the Companion Human Update to celebrate.

Companion Human Game Mode


To celebrate the Steam launch, I've added the Companion Human Challenge. This game mode is the TOTALLY CANON CreatorCrate / Human fan fiction where you must follow the 3 laws: * Protect Companion * No Abandon * No Devour (unless very hungry) [previewyoutube=EE3Q0DYDVEI;full][/previewyoutube]

Demo Converter


If you've played the CreatorCrate Demo, progress up to the first boss fight will be converted when you play the full game. Progress from the Zero G preview and a few items are not converted since these are shown out of order to give Demo players a taste of what's to come. This update also adds Steam Cloud saves, and a bunch of other improvements.

CreatorCrate enters 1.0!

I made the decision to move the versioning up to 1.0 in preparation for the game's release this fall. No more beta disclaimer, and the debug info is off by default now. Thank you so much to everyone who's playtested and been excited for the game's development. We're in the final stretch now! Update 1.0.2

This update restocks items and enemies in certain sections to make permadeath runs more exciting. It also helps to make sure that you have enough matter to complete the Hongry challenge. Have fun!

In this update, I added aim assist for using firearms with a controller. Using a controller for game play and menus should also feel much more solid.

  • Added challenge Crate Mode, where you can't run, jump, or climb ladders. It's technically winnable.

Humans are Made of Matter: Update 0.29.0

Update with some big changes to help players terrorize the space station crew. This update also adds unlockable challenge modes and a stats screen!

  • Made knockouts permanent to encourage hitting people with tables.

Camera Improvements: Update 0.24.0

In this update, I fine tuned the camera movement to be smoother. I also added a reduced camera motion setting for motion sensitive players. This turns off the usual way that the camera tilts in the direction of movement and prevents the camera from following the mouse.

  • Fine tuned the way that decompression interacts with physics objects.

  • Made snipers aim slower to give the player a chance.
  • Decreased the trap density in the new sniper section.

Steam Playtest Update

We're blown away by the amount of interest in the Steam Playtest for CreatorCrate. After 1 day, we have close to 200 playtesters! We're closing open Playtest applications for now to give us a chance to slow down and talk with the current playtesters. However, there may be another round of open applications in the future. Difficulty Setting! CreatorCrate Update 0.19.0

New update with a difficulty setting and the ability to hide in smoke from humans. The game still comes with an intended difficulty that is balanced to be a fast and challenging experience, while still being fair. However, we decided to add the setting because we recognize that the intended level of challenge can be a barrier to enjoying the game for some players, while other players crave even more challenge.   • Added a difficulty setting that changes how much damage you take.
  • Made smoke hide you from humans.
  • Added the ability to select a user name with a controller
  • Players can have little a crushing without being killed.

Changes for Zero Gravity Demo and Closed Alpha:

  • Pinger and Clacker enemies can be distracted with thrown items now.
  • Redesigned the starting area to give a more interesting intro sequence.
  • Major improvements to Clacker robot enemies to keep them from blocking the way.
  • Changed the Pinger Robot target found effect to be more interesting and clear.
  • Electrical traps are less deadly (they are still very deadly)
  • Added any key to skip messages for some transitions.

  • Adjusted sound effect levels to be more consistent.

Parallax Backgrounds Update

Update to the CreatorCrate Demo and Closed Alpha, with major improvements to the look of the game, including Parallax Backgrounds and signs in Line-Arc, the language of the world of CreatorCrate. Change log:

  • Parallax backgrounds have been added.
  • Signs with Linearc writing are now in the game.
  • Mouse is now constrained to screen space
  • Box mode while swinging is no longer possible
  • Fixes have been made to swinging to prevent locking
  • Fixed an issue with resolution menu not indicating the current resolution properly
  • Fixed an issue with pigeons standing on retracted platforms.

CreatorCrate is a roguelike 2D platformer about an escaped appliance that can eat and reproduce items.

In the game, you make, throw, and manipulate physics objects to overcome challenges and survive.

You must fight or evade intelligent humans and robots that are trying to track you down.

A procedurally generated, hard sci-fi setting.


The game takes place on a space station that spins to generate gravity. The levels take the shape of a gigantic circle. The station map is procedurally generated on each playthrough, with floors that are actually curved. Because of its circular shape, if you run far enough in one direction, you will end up back where you started.

Because the station spins to generate gravity, the closer you get to the center, the less the gravity affects you. The station also has an inner ring that doesn't spin, where you have to navigate by jumping from wall to wall.

A control scheme for emergent physical interactions


Because the setting of the game has varying gravity, we leaned into the physical nature of all the interactions

All objects in the game are physics objects. You can pick them up and throw them, so that they tumble along the ground and smash into enemies. You can release a knife in mid-air, it will fly across the room, and slash the wires that power security systems. You can hold a table in front of you to block incoming bullets.

You'll need a new control scheme to do all this, which is why you have the Grabber Arm!

We've given you an arm that lets you pick up items, and wave them above your head in the physical game-space. The arm follows your mouse, and lets you do things not possible in most platformers.

You'll find toys that interact in interesting physical ways. Fans that let you hover in place, bunsen burners to start fires, or acid to melt through walls.

What's the matter?


You're an escaped 3D printer with legs. Why did they give you legs? I don't know, we'll have to ask corporate.

Being an appliance comes with some benefits. Consume any object to learn its blueprint, and break down its matter to recharge your matter bar. For instance: what if you need lots of guns, but all you have lying around is a few humans? EASY! Just use that useless biological matter to print out some handy-dandy firearms.

A word of warning: be careful when printing out some of the more complex biological blueprints. CreatorCrate gets them... mostly right.
