Maintenance and bug fix patch

This update is a minor maintenance update which only contains the following changes:

  • Bug fix for macOS players running Metal that caused the game to freeze when re-focusing the game window after switching to a window that covers the game window.
  • Updated the credits list.
Mini Metro now runs on Unity 2022.3. This unfortunately requires macOS Mojave, and no longer supports macOS High Sierra. We have preserved the previous version of the game for players on macOS 10.13 who are unable to upgrade. If you are in this position, follow these steps to switch to that version:
  • Right-click on Mini Metro in your Steam library
  • Select Betas
  • Open the drop-down in the top left, and select highsierra - macOS 10.13 compatibility branch
  • Close the window and wait for Mini Metro to update. In your Steam library, it should show up as Mini Metro [highsierra]
Thank you to the community members who reported the issue.

Expand your minimalist strategy horizons - bundle with shapez now!

We know that it can be tough to find games that scratch the Mini Metro itch, so we wanted to introduce you to our friend Tobias Springer and his game, shapez! For a limited time, we're partnering up for the Subways and shapez' bundle, which will give you a discount on both our titles. In shapez, the name of the game is speed just as much as efficiency. You must build increasingly complex production lines that slice, rotate, and colour a variety of shapes as your factories expand, just like the maps in Mini Metro. While things start out at a relaxed pace, you'll soon find that as your factories scale, you'll have to build increasingly well designed assembly lines to keep up! Dive into this bundle to put your strategy skills to the test. If you already own Mini Metro, you can still purchase the bundle to get a discount of 10% on shapez. And if you don't own Mini Metro yet, now you can pick up both games at a 10% discount through 13 August. Happy planning!

Your Labour of Love pick for the Steam Awards?

Its been a big year for Mini Metro. Ten years is a long lifespan for an indie game, and weve enjoyed every year of it, bringing you over two dozen exciting maps from around the world, brand new game modes, Steam Workshop integration, and more! If youve enjoyed the many free updates weve rolled out over the last decade, wed be honoured if you would consider nominating us for the Labour of Love award this year at the Steam Awards. Mini Metro has always been a labour of love for our studio in that we never had any plans to charge for DLC from the beginning. And our wonderful players have been part of that work, too, giving feedback in the early days of the game all the way through to designing so many incredible maps for Mini Metro Workshop! Weve loved the opportunities that our updates have given our game, our team, and our players. If youve loved em too, consider heading up to the top of our product page and clicking on the button to nominate us. :) Thanks for everything - from supporting us all the way back in Steam Green Light through to our big ten-year party! Wed be honoured to have your nomination.

With three new crossover maps coming to Mini Motorways, direct from Mini Metro, you can reimagine the experience of creating the Metro lines of London, Mumbai and our player-voted map winner New York City. And to make things even more fun, these new maps will also require you to build around an existing railroad network with train stations! It has been an honour and a joy to celebrate the last 10 years of Mini with such an amazing community of players. No matter where you jumped on board, we hope youve enjoyed this decade long-journey with us! Who knows where our next destination might take us, but with you there, its made the trip well worth it! Mini Metro now stopping in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia!

Its hard to believe that Mini Metro has been around for so long that were adding maps for metro systems that opened after our game debuted! For our December update, we invite players to explore Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The Addis Ababa Light Rail opened in 2015, servicing ten sub-city boroughs. Take control of the first light rail and rapid transit network in sub-Saharan Africa! Addis Ababa is nestled in the shade of Mount Entoto, with tricky terrain for players as they must design a metro that serves the citys five million residents while weaving around and over the Akaki and Bulbula rivers, as well as their tributaries! This update features:

  • A brand new map! Connect the five million commuters of Addis Ababa who call Ethiopias capital home.
  • New achievements and challenges!
  • Fixes to outstanding issues, including:
    • Fixed a looping audio bug that was affecting some players.
    • Added a warning every time you replay the Daily Challenge that only the first score is counted.
    • Fixed some bugs where buttons and UI elements occasionally behaved unusually.
Thanks so much for continuing to enjoy Mini Metro after so many years. It's pretty wild that we're now releasing maps for cities whose rail networks were released after Mini Metro was! :D We're grateful to all of you for your support and we can't wait to see you again in 2022!

Mini Motorways out now + we're today's Steam daily deal!

We try not to toot our own horns too much here at Dino HQ, but in case you missed it, Mini Motorways is out now! More of a spiritual successor to Mini Metro than a direct sequel, it asks a question which puts a brand new spin on familiar game mechanics: what if you had to design roads for a city with no public transit? Keen on taking Mini Motorways for a spin? Pick it up here. And to celebrate our sophomore game's Steam release, we're giving Steam players 75% off Mini Metro! If you've always wanted to check it out or wanted to share a copy with a friend, now's your chance. :) Last but not least, we'll be updating Mini Metro with a shiny new map in late August! This city's first metro line is listed with UNESCO World Heritage and is over 130 years old! Any guesses? Thanks so much for still loving Mini Metro all this time and for the warm welcome to Mini Motorways. We'll see you in August!

Save 50% on Mini Metro until 12th May!

Hey everyone! We're dropping Mini Metro by 50% on Steam as part of the Indie MEGABOOTH Going Away sale, to help raise money for an organization that gave us a lot of encouragement back when our studio was very new and had no idea how to bring Mini Metro to the wider gaming world. Kelly from IMB helped us organize our first PAX appearance, gave so much encouragement and advice, and has been an incredible presence in the indie gaming community for nine years now. Over 150 IMB alumni are discounting our games this week to help raise money to keep IMB's bills paid while they have to temporarily close their doors due to the current state of the events industry. We were looking forward to exhibiting Mini Motorways at IMB this year at PAX West, and we're so gutted for all our friends, fans, and fellow devs who aren't going to get to experience what a fun event this was for the indie games community. Some of you on this very page may have even encountered Mini Metro back at PAX in 2015, when the IMB team helped us sort out our very first big, pre-planned convention exhibition back when we weren't sure our silly little game was ready for the big time alongside all those "real" studios. Kelly and Mike believed in us from day 1 and their encouragement is part of how we've gotten to where we are today as a studio. If you love Mini Metro or just want to support an incredible gaming community that encourages developers who otherwise might not have access to information, promotion, and community building, you now have the opportunity to buy some awesome games for an amazing cause. Check out the full lineup of all the great games on offer here! For more info on Dinosaur Polo Club discounts, upcoming releases, and sweet memes, you can always follow us on Twitter and the page for Mini Motorways also!

Mini Motorways!

Were thrilled to announce our new title: Mini Motorways! The team has been hard at work on this game since early 2018 and were so happy that we can share the news with you all after so many months.
The success of our debut title, Mini Metro, took us all by surprise. As you know, we have spent time since its inception supporting it by adding more content, bringing it to new platforms, and improving the core systems (a fancy way of saying fixing bugs). Its also been a hard title to follow up. We have spent a lot of time deciding what to base our next game on, and we decided on something else that a lot of people use every day road maps.
We did a lot of work on Mini Metro in 2018, such as adding Creative Mode, the interactive game guide, and new maps. In between these updates we set aside time for members of the team to prototype ideas for how an interactive road map would work. In some concepts the roads drew themselves automatically and you carved arterial routes through them, in others you painted roads across the city and they sprouted small streets. We experimented with systems such as modelling the waves of commuters throughout the day, intelligent spline editing, and threading together interchanges. In the end we kept coming back to one of the concepts, Tiny Tileways, that our programmers Tana and Tom had put together. It was a neat and minimal design, fun to watch and interact with, and had a lot of potential for expansion.
We want Mini Motorways to be as good as it can be by the time we launch on Steam, and instead of rushing the integration, were taking the time to do it right and deliver a great game first time to you all. This time around, there will be no Early Access period as it should be pretty rounded out by then. You can check out our Coming Soon page and if you like the look of it, please add Mini Motorways to your Wishlist!

Singapore and tutorial changes

Hello everyone! We've recently expanded the Mini Metro team and have been getting through the backlog much faster now. We've got a new map for you and some long-awaited changes to the tutorial. Plus a small quality-of-life fix that we could sneak in: Journey to the island city-state of Singapore and lay some tracks. More explicit tutorial text to more fully explain some aspects of the game. The direction of trains is shown when paused! Happy commuting!

Performance (and plurals)

Plurals are back!
We've pushed a minor update to the default branch this morning. There are numerous minor performance changes including pathfinding optimisations and a complete refactor of the passenger rendering. Most importantly though we fixed the translation cock-up with gamma28, so non-English plural forms are back.

AI update now live

gamma26 build is now live for all players.
We've made just a few tweaks since the test build went up, and have now pushed gamma26 from the test branch to the live branch. So now everyone can enjoy smarter passengers and an extra bridge in Mumbai. ːsteamhappyː If you'd like to read more about the decision-making improvements, I went into some detail in the previous announcement. Keep fighting the good fight.

Passenger AI improvements!

gamma26 build with AI improvements is available on the test branch.
Hey all, We were hoping to have the gamma26 build tested and live before the Daily Deal today, but unfortunately what I thought was going to be just a few days improving the passenger AI turned into a couple of weeks. So business as usual. :) We've worked our way through every bit of the decision-making code and found and fixed numerous small errors that would result in railcars leaving stations partially full or overfull, passengers making dubious decisions about which trains to board, passengers of the same shape making different decisions at the same station, and all sorts of other odd behaviour. It's gone through testing here, but I don't feel comfortable pushing it live just yet given it hasn't had any public testing. So if you're game, please switch to the test branch and give it go. If you think you've can see anything dodgy, please take a screenshot and send that and as detailed a description as possible to peter@dinopoloclub.com. There are a couple of AI issues that I'd like to go over. The first is that in order to make the passenger decisions more consistent, we've had to remove the old hack that would encourage passengers to leave overcrowded stations immediately if a train was available, even if that train took a much slower route to their destination. The way we got those passengers to prioritise the longer route then had to have another hack to avoid them flip-flopping routes, so the whole system is much more robust with both those hacks gone. We're working on a replacement system to discourage passengers taking routes that involve waiting at overcrowded stations instead; this will have the same result as the old code, but it'll work much more elegantly with the AI's search algorithm. The second issue is that we've found that high-risk connections can pose a real problem with the way passengers make decisions about which route to take. By high-risk I mean passengers deciding to take a route involving a tight transfer onto a different line to get to their ultimate destination. If they miss that transfer due to either an optimistic estimate of their original train's arrival time at the transfer station, or a pessimistic estimate of the connecting train's arrival time, then the cost is potentially very high. If the connecting train is the only train on its line, or if the line is very long, then the passenger will likely flip to a completely different path once it realises it won't make the connection. This can lead to passengers going back-and-forth as they try to catch different trains. We've done what we can to address this issue by building in a threshold for tight connections that goes up and up as the search algorithm tries to predict further and further into the future. For example, if we're predicting a transfer 30 seconds in the future, then the passenger has to predict it'll get to the station at least 3 seconds before the connecting train, otherwise it assumes it'll miss the train and cost that particular route accordingly. This is as much as we feel comfortable doing without either adding state to the passenger AI (at a cost of robustness), or improving the train location prediction (at a significant cost of development time, and no doubt introducing a litany of new bugs). Ultimately this is a problem given the odd timescale the game runs at, with few railcars hitting stations infrequently, compared to actual metros that have many more cars with far greater frequency of station visits. Anyway, I know this has been a little long-winded, so thanks for reading through! I figured some players would appreciate a peek behind the scenes of what is by-far the most complicated algorithm in Mini Metro. Slight non-sequitur back to gamma26; we're aware of some rendering issues on the Linux build, (the in-game UI elements are flickering on our Ubuntu machine) so we have to at least get those resolved before pushing this build out to the default branch. Keep those cities moving! Peter

Introducing Mumbai, Istanbul, and D.C.

Mini Metro's latest update, gamma20, is now live with three new cities; Washington, D.C., Istanbul, and Mumbai. We hope you enjoy building their metros! Two new localisations have been added, for Arabic and Te Reo Māori. If you're a dedicated player you'll be pleased to know we figured out what was causing the late-game passenger surge. The difficulty should ramp up more gently now. ːsteamhappyː

Ubuntu fix

gamma19a went live this morning—it's just a small update resolving an incompatibility that gamma19 had with some Intel HD integrated GPUs on Ubuntu. The game now uses Unity's older OpenGL 2 renderer on Linux.

[ 2017-04-04 00:07:15 CET ] [ Original post ]

Endless fixes

The gamma19 build that went live today fixes the known issues with endless mode. The most prominent issue were the ghost passengers that would eventually crop up, causing carriages to lose capacity and not be able to be moved to another train. Additional milestones have been added as well, so you'll be able to squeeze a few more trains into your endless cities. In other changes, a Thai community translation has been added and all fonts now have kerning. Can't believe it took this long to add *kerning* ... ːsteamsadː

[ 2017-03-17 00:56:32 CET ] [ Original post ]

Endless tweaks

The gamma18 build is now live. The focus of this update was a slight reworking of how the endless mode worked—it's now much less shouty, and hopefully more relaxing. We managed to fix a whole heap of bugs as well, most importantly the last known pathfinding bug. Yay! Unity's been giving us some grief lately, so we've had to downgrade to Unity 5.4 for this build for stability reasons. In doing so we've lost support for Retina resolutions. Less than ideal. :| We're working to get the issues we have with Unity 5.5+ fixed so we can get Retina support back as soon as we can. We have a substantial update planned for release in a few months. Stay tuned!

17a hotfix

There's a quick update today to address a couple of small issues. If you lost your progress with the last update then this patch will bring everything back. If not, please send me the log! (peter@dinopoloclub.com) After some extensive help from our Linux players, the recent Linux instability has been nailed down to a conflict between Unity 5's multithreaded renderer and some old libraries that the Steam client ships with. We've reverted to the old renderer in this Linux build which *might* fix the issue; if not you can opt in to the beta Steam client or switch to the snowleopard branch until the client is updated.

Mini Metro's first guest composer, Mateo Lugo!

Cool news, the latest update (out today) has new scores for Seoul, San Francisco, and Shanghai. Mateo Lugo, the composer on Reigns, guest-authored these new scores. ːsteamhappyː gamma17 doesn't have many other changes. Multi-monitor support on macOS and Linux is still shonky, and on the list of things we're finding time for. Switching resolution on Linux is also nowhere near as robust as we'd like. If you're playing in a window you might need to restart the game once you've configured your resolution to get it to 'stick'. Linux windows can also be resized at runtime which the game doesn't like ... also on the list to address! We've had reports of the game locking up on some Linux machines since the game's changed to using the Unity 5 runtime. If that happens to you, please email the game's log to peter@dinopoloclub.com. While we're getting to the bottom of the issue, you can revert to the last Unity 4 build by switching to the snowleopard branch.

Gamma 15

All aboard for our new update! We’ve got two new maps, Seoul and Shanghai! We’ve also made some adjustments in the passenger’s decision making to help them take the best route. You can now switch between multi monitors option in the options menu on Windows. We are still working on this for Ubuntu and macOS. Happy Steam Sale, everyone!

Gamma 15 on test branch

Heyo commuters, We've just finished (hopefully!) upgrading both the PC and mobile builds of Mini Metro to Unity 5.5. The current desktop build was built with Unity 4.7, and mobile with 5.3, so this is the first time in a long long while they're on a unified branch. This will be a huge productivity gain for us as we can now develop core features without having to faff about keeping both builds in sync. However while the new gamma15 build has worked fine in our tests, as the engine upgrade is a significant change we haven't pushed it to the default branch yet. It's available on the test branch, so if you're game please try it out and let us know how it goes. The main additions are the new maps of Seoul and Shanghai, long-awaited fixes to the pathfinding (thank you for your patience!), proper multi-monitor support on Windows and Linux, and support for Retina resolutions on macOS. The multi-monitor support is what we're eager to see tested the most. We've done what we can in the office but we don't have a huge array of hardware, and no multi-monitor Linux setup at all. You can find the Display option in the options menu, and can change it at run-time. Unfortunately this is only an option on Windows and Linux; we tried looking at options for monitor-switching on macOS but as far as we can tell Unity doesn't support it at all. :| One unfortunate side-effect of upgrading to Unity 5 is the lack of support for 32-bit versions of Mac OS X (this is the primary reason we stuck with 4.7 for so long). We will archive the current build to a snowleopard branch so it will continue to be available. We can't continue to support this branch though, so I'm really sorry if you're on 10.6 and this affects you. If this is unacceptable please request a refund stating that as the reason. The refund process is out of our hands, but we'll do what we can to support your request. Oh and Mini Metro got a nomination in the Steam Awards! Thanks a ton if you nominated us. It was totally unexpected. We'll no doubt badger you all for a vote soon. ːsteamhappyː Keep the city moving! Peter

Gamma 14

Just a little update to tidy up a few issues—the interface no longer vanishes if you continue a scored game into Endless mode, and the Greek, Catalan, and Hungarian localisations have been restored. A huge thanks to our community for completing those translations!

Gamma13, no really this time

Hello everyone! The latest update, gamma13, is now live, for the second time. This time we decided to ship without the crash so you'll actually get to play it for longer than two seconds. On a more serious note, we've looked at our build processes and made a few changes so things like this don't slip through again. Thank you for your patience. The update includes the following major changes:

  • A new map, San Francisco! Bridge over the two estuaries as you link up the cities of the Bay Area.
  • Major overhaul of the line-building code. This has cleared up a lot of the niggling issues when building and editing routes, and also made middle-edits feel a lot nicer.
  • Lines can now cross. It's still best to avoid it as your trains move slower when they have to cross other lines.
Enjoy!

Gamma13 rollback

Hi everyone, I'm very sorry, but we've had to rollback to gamma12. Soon after the update we got reports from a number of players about crashes. We've had a look and it's something we need to look more into. If you were playing gamma13 without any problems then you can still get to it on the test branch. To do so, from the Library tab: right click on Mini Metro, click on the Betas tab, select "test" from the dropdown, then click on Close. Sorry again for the issues, we hope to have it back up and running soon!

Minor update

The gamma12 build is live on Steam now. This is a fairly minor update with the following changes and fixes:

  • -novignette and -notint can now be specified on the command line to hide the vignette and tint.
  • Added European Portuguese translation.
  • Fixed the crash when starting the game from within a directory named with non-ANSI characters.
  • Resuming an archived game now correctly restores the score.
  • Logging's been added around the Daily Challenge to track down the update loop it can get stuck in.

[ 2016-07-15 01:15:00 CET ] [ Original post ]

Bug fixes and enhancements

The gamma9 build has been deployed, this includes the following changes:

  • Tidied up service calls for fetching leaderboards and the daily challenge, which means a slightly quicker UI.
  • Fixed uncommon case where the transition or engine sound would loop continuously.
  • Tapping the control key will play a quick red burst animation on top of the mouse cursor. Handy if you've lost it!
  • Fixed inconsistencies in the German translation.
  • Removed one-frame snap when continuing a scored game.
  • Screenshot and GIF save notification messages no longer persist past their useful lifetime.

[ 2016-05-27 21:28:28 CET ] [ Original post ]

Multi-monitor support

Quick release today. We've just pushed the gamma8 build from test to the default branch; the most significant change is the reintroduction of the Unity configuration dialog. On Windows you can use this to select which monitor to run Mini Metro on. To bring up the dialog, hold down the shift key when you start the game. Please note all the other settings are ignored, so you still have to change resolution in-game!

[ 2016-04-26 00:33:05 CET ] [ Original post ]

FLAC audio

We've just pushed the gamma6 update to the default branch on Steam. The major change is that the audio is now compressed with FLAC instead of Vorbis—as a result, the download is a little bigger, but the audio is slightly higher quality and decompresses much more quickly. This is one of the first changes we've made for the mobile release that's been rolled back to the desktop build.

[ 2016-02-09 21:21:10 CET ] [ Original post ]

Now in Swedish!

Thanks to a community translation, as of the latest build (gamma5) Mini Metro has full Swedish localisation. Yay! Also in gamma5, we've removed the check that was causing the game to explode if it was started by running the game's executable directly, instead of through Steam. As long as the Steam client is running, you'll still have full Steam integration if you run it externally (with the exception of the Steam overlay).

[ 2016-01-05 23:24:09 CET ] [ Original post ]

Gamma 4

We've made a number of small changes and fixes in the build that's just gone live. The most noticeable changes are reduced load times as the game now caches the decompressed audio, and a fix for a long-standing bug in the passenger pathfinding.

Gamma 3 build

Hi all! We've just pushed a bunch of minor fixes out with the gamma3 build, including the following:

  • New audio arrangement for Melbourne.
  • Bridges are now used to cross the Yarra instead of tunnels.
  • Fix for Melbourne's Extreme achievement check.
  • Portrait resolutions are no longer broken.
  • The colour for Cairo's grey line is more distinctive from the unused line's colour.
If you want to know what we're up to, you can always find the list of issues and tasks on our Trello board.

Leaderboard sync hotfix

A tiny update has been pushed up to Steam to prevent old high scores from syncing with the online leaderboards. We completely forgot that we had that code in there, which unfortunately messed up with the leaderboard wipe this morning. D'oh! We'll be pruning out the old scores from the leaderboards over the next few days.

Welcome to Mini Metro!

Mini Metro is now released out of Early Access! Thanks to everyone for all your support, testing, suggestions, and enthusiasm. It's helped carry us over the line. Also a big thanks to our community translators who have allowed us to ship in a massive amount of languages. So right now we can officially announce the Daily Challenge mode! This is available straight from the main menu and lets you get one shot at a new map every day—along with everyone else in the world! So get as high a score as you can and see how well you do. Then come back tomorrow to find out tomorrow's challenge! Also we've got a brand new map for you, Melbourne! It's got a cool art style as well as featuring trams instead of trains. This is far, far from the end of the road for Mini Metro though. We've been talking about where to take it from here and have some exciting ideas bubbling away for the future. So, stay tuned! And keep the city moving.

Imminent score wipe!

We're nearing Mini Metro's release out of Early Access—it's scheduled for 10AM Pacific Time on Friday. We are going to wipe all the leaderboards (except the daily challenge boards) on launch. You'll still have the local record of your high scores, but if you want to boast to the world about it you'll have to earn it all over again. ːsteamsadː There will be a new map coming though! ːsteamhappyː

Beta 37

Hi everyone, A big (in file size) update today—we've re-encoded the audio in a format that will allow it to load faster when you start Mini Metro. This meant that all the audio had to be downloaded again. Also the testing of the daily challenge on the test branch went very well so we've pushed it out to everyone for a couple of days before we release out of Early Access on Friday.

Daily Challenge

We've got a beta of Mini Metro's new feature, the Daily Challenge, live on the test branch. Every day you get one shot at a city that plays out identically for everyone. Complete with daily leaderboards and all that stuff. If that sounds like your cup of tea, switch to the test branch and check it out!

Beta 36, and a release date!

Beta 36 is live! The major changes are:

  • Some small (but important!) fixes to the pathfinding. Trains now shouldn't skip past full stations at inopportune moments.
  • Re-enabled Turkish and Danish languages as their translations near completion.
We're making a lot of progress in tracking down the last known crash bug that sometimes occurs when dragging trains. We'll make another release when this has been fixed. Also, we have a release date! Mini Metro will be leaving Early Access on November the 6th. We're working on one new feature to launch with, we're pretty sure you'll like it! Stop Press The dragging-train crash has been found and fixed! A new beta36 with that fix (a well as a change to the OS X fullscreen mode) has been pushed live.

[ 2015-10-08 00:38:11 CET ] [ Original post ]

Upcoming price increase!

We've just pushed beta33 with a few tweaks to the audio and a number of stability fixes. As of beta31 we've been getting automatic exception reports through Unity Cloud Services, which is making it much simpler to find and fix all sorts of issues—wish I'd known about it months ago! :) Now that the audio is in and a release date is looking closer, we'll soon be increasing the price of Mini Metro. The original intention, back in August 2014, was to steadily increase the price until launch as the planned features were added. The first increase was always going to be happen when audio went in ... seemed like a good idea back when we expected it in after only a few months. So, if you're waiting to pick up Mini Metro, now's your chance! If you already do (thanks!), tell your friends to get in while the going's good. Preferably all of them, repeatedly. Just keep at it until they cave.

Beta31: Audio!

After more than a year in Early Access (how did that happen!?), audio is now in on the main branch. We hope you enjoy it! We're working on a few issues, and Disasterpeace is busy perfecting it, so there may be some changes over the next couple of weeks. In other news, we've redesigned the city selection screen to show a city preview again, as well as a short description of what to expect from each city.

Audio on test branch

The first public release of Mini Metro's audio can be found on the test branch. We'll be pushing it to the main branch once it's had a bit of a thrash and any kinks have been ironed out. If you do check it out, please let us know if you encounter any problems! I think there may be some issues when playing with low frame rates. Oh, and remember to enable audio in the options if it's disabled! :)

  • Mini Metro (Linux) [267.87 M]
In Mini Metro, you take on the task of designing the subway layout for a rapidly expanding city. Your city starts with three stations. Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. Commuters travel along your lines to get around the city as fast as they can. Each station can only hold a handful of waiting commuters so your subway network will need to be well-designed to avoid delays.

The city is growing. More stations are opening, and commuters are appearing faster. The demands on your network are ever-increasing. You'll be constantly redesigning your lines to maximise efficiency. The new assets you earn every week will help immensely — as long as they're used wisely.

Eventually your network will fail. Stations will open too quickly. Commuters will crowd the platforms. How long the city keeps moving is up to you.

Key Features

  • Compelling, constructive, hectic, relaxed gameplay. If that makes sense. It doesn't though, aye? You just gotta play it.
  • Three game modes: Normal for quick scored games, Endless for stress-free sandbox play, and Extreme for the ultimate challenge.
  • Eleven real-world cities to design subways for (London, New York City, Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong, Osaka, Saint Petersburg, Montreal, São Paulo, Cairo, and Auckland). Each has a unique colour theme, set of obstacles, and pace.
  • Random city growth, so each game plays out differently. A strategy that proved successful last game may not help you in the next.
  • Each game's map is a work of art, built by you in the classic abstract subway style of Harry Beck. If you think it's a keeper, save it, tweet it, show it off or make it your desktop background!
  • Soundtrack by Disasterpeace
  • Colorblind and night modes.
  • Trains! Did we mention them yet?

Demo

You can check out Mini Metro for yourself and play a game on the London map in the demo. The demo uses the Unity webplayer, so you'll need the Unity plugin (Windows and OS X only unfortunately).
