Version 1.22 uploaded and other news!

Hi Everyone,
Version 1.22 has been uploaded.
This update may not seem different on the surface however, due to the porting to console, there is a lot of fixes in regards to controller support, stability, and efficiency.

-The game should now be fully playable with a controller with no need to touch a mouse or keyboard.
-The game should use far fewer system resources at various times (not that it used much before).
-Various small rare bugs that caused a freeze or crash have been fixed.
-Windows and Linux are now 64bit only. If this is a problem for you please reach out to me and I can give you the old version. http://zotnip.com/contact/

In addition, the game is also NOW available on Nintendo Switch!

Whats next for Hyperspace Delivery Service?
-Mobile releases will be coming soonish. They are ready but since I'm one person, the amount of admin work each platform requires is more than I can handle with my "day" job. So Switch release now, then I'll do the others as I get time.

Patch 1.15 uploaded

This update is to fix the sound/music cutting out issue that can randomly happen.

In addition there are a lot of behind the scenes engine updates that are included due to my work prepping the game for ports.

Hopefully I'll be able to announce somewhat soon which platform the game will come to next and what the plans and features for that release are.

Patch 1.14 uploaded

Hi Everyone,
This is just a quick patch to fix a bug that resulted in many repeated random encounters. Even though there are random encounters in the game, the encounters aren't purely random. If they were, you may get a random occurrence where every encounter is the same. This gives the game a feel of more variety.

What have I been up to since launch?
I've mainly been preparing the game for launch on other platforms. I can't quite say which yet as I'm still in talks with some platforms. But while I'm figuring that out I'm moving ahead with the programming to get the game ready for various platforms. Hopefully I'll know soon enough!

Patch 1.13 Uploaded

A few quick fixes and modifications this week!

-Fix space controls getting glitchy where if using both mouse and keyboard to try and aim the ship at the same time.
-Fix intel being given despite not having enough credits.

Patch 1.12 Uploaded

Here is a quick patch to fix a couple issues in the FPS mini game.

-Fix game sending you back to ship if have no ammo but have a melee weapon (security).
-Fix blaster ammo not increasing if melee weapon is selected
-Fix bug if returning to ship with enemies still around, you can get damaged while the screen displays the loot you are taking back to the ship.

Officially Released!

After 7 months in Early Access and so many fixes, adjustments, and new features, Hyperspace Delivery Service has reached version 1.0 and is now officially available.

I cant thank enough all the of the Early Access players who helped shape the game and make it the best it could be. Your feedback and support have made this game far better than it could have been without you.

To celebrate the release of the game, the soundtrack is also now available on bandcamp
It will also be available as DLC on STEAM as soon as it makes its way through valves approval process (it could be 2 weeks).

What's next for Hyperspace Delivery Service?
Beyond fixing any bugs that popup upon this release, first up is a mobile port of the game. I'm also attempting to see if I can find a console maker willing to accept the game. As for new content, I'm going to see how the game does and what kind of community there may be and desire for more. I feel as though the game has reached a good balance of complex decisions with a simplistic gameplay loop. It's not intimidating yet provides flexibility and requires strategy to win.

Official Release Date Announcement!

Hi Everyone,
I've chosen an official date to exit early access and officially launch the game. The date is June 5th 2019! Just right around the corner!

There is still time for a few more bug fixes between now and then but that is the date. Now is the time I'm going to start sending out review codes for any press who needs time to play the game and write a review for the release.

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .95

The latest update is ready and uploaded! Lots of changes and fixes are in this update. Some visual elements you may have gotten used to are now changed but I think for the better in the long run. Lets see how everyone reacts to the changes and then I'll announce an official release date!

-Fix radar in bridge view
-Limit max amount of intel can get
-FPS return to ship message shows key
-Fix death by sickness showing wrong sickness name
-Fix med kit name miss match
-Spelling fixes
-Legibility changes to map
-Remove medbay screen and combine with crew screen. Crew screen now has medkit buttons next to each crew member.
-Fix Mines being too far in blockade. Make blockade slightly easier
-Fix food use display on nav screen
-clear up pace screen (add help button)
-show ammo on FPS choice screen
-Fix bridge sprites not updating after player death in FPS rescue mission
-Escape (back) key now works to close various menus instead of always opening in game menu. Will open in game menu if not showing other menus.

-NEW control system. This means any previous customization's will be gone. I also reset the speed control for the ship to +,- instead of q,e. The reason for the change is to be able to support more controllers without issues.

-fix warp sound not obeying volume control
-Fix FPS enemy pushing player out of bounds
-New achievement for 1000 days
-Easy mode now harder
-Show damage to ship visually on bridge.
-New FPS framing. Show portraits of chosen crew with 3 levels of damage.
-Space combat will now always take place from the bridge view. This gives a better connection to the crew and what their doing while in combat. It makes it more obvious that your fighting from your ship and not in a shuttle.
-Better support for ultra-wide monitors.
-Fix star spacing on map screen
-Other bug fixes.

Few, lots of stuff there. I plan on announcing a release date soon. At this point I need to be careful because if I release too close to the steam summer sale, I think that could be an issue. But if I release too soon, it won't give reviewers enough time to review the game. I could see saying 2nd week of June. Otherwise it'd be mid July. Anyone have any thoughts there?

Update Delayed

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately the current update is delayed due to sickness. I had to take a few days off and because of that I got behind on "day job" stuff which pushed the dev time of the game to next week. At this stage, I need to complete testing of the new update, and I have a little more art coming in that I'll now just wait for at the end of this coming week to incorporate. So now we're basically 2 weeks behind on this update.

The new update will be worth the wait though and with it the game should be complete!

While we wait, here's a sneak peak at 2 more portraits of bridge crew.

Next update almost ready.

We almost have all the new crew portraits done! After those, there will be some adjustments to the bridge view and then the update will be ready. I'm aiming to have this complete by the end of next week.

Here is a preview of some crew portraits. They will be used both in bridge views and in FPS levels.


I'm excited for this next update. There are a lot of fixes and usability improvements in it that I think should make the game ready for launch!

Upcoming Update

Just wanted to give an update on where the game is at.

I have some art work that is being created and it may be 1 - 2 weeks or so to get it in. After I get that I'll incorporate it and upload this current update. There are approximately 18 bug fixes/changes incoming!

Some of the art is a new framing graphic and portraits for FPS levels. Another is some alterations to the bridge so that space combat can take place entirely from the bridge view but not feel too constrained by the smaller view screen window. I'll keep the option to go full screen, but the default will be bridge view as this view gives a better sense of the ship you are controlling and your crew.

That should be the last update before announcing an official release date and sending out publicity emails and review codes.

Pax East Report!

This past weekend I showed the game at the Pax East convention in the Pax Rising area. It was a great time and I was able to observer many players go through the game. All the feedback was very encouraging!

As a result of some things I observed I'm going to take a little time to work on some tweaks to the game. These tweaks are mainly visual and text based and primarily will not affect game play. They will help give it that bit of polish I think is needed to get the game over the last edge to completion. I'll keep you updated. I'd still like to aim for a mid to late May release!

Another week another update! Really getting close to simply locking this down!

-Balance changes for Hard Difficulty level to make more difficult.
-Reward amounts balancing for all difficulty levels
-Stores now have credits which means you can't sell unlimited amounts of goods for an unlimited amount of credits.
-High score leader boards are now only reported and saved for Medium and Hard difficulty.
-Blockades will no longer show up on 2 planets in a row.

Another week, another release! This week we have some bug fixes as well as balancing of some stats to (fairly) increase the difficulty level of the game and also make hard difficulty a little more of a challenge.

-Fix FPS health going over 100
-Fix reviving crew from stasis not subtracting credits cost
-Fix 2 achievements not firing: First Contract and Intergalactic Bureaucratic
-Fix rescue mission not applying ship damage
-Fix FPS Ui when have multiple weapons, the weapon switch indicator overlays the key indicators.
-Fix lighting glitch after some space missions.
-balancing changes for total days for delivery as well as various supply rewards and costs.
-Balancing change to oxygen extraction
-Slight change to fuel extraction timing.
-New Achievement added for perfect repair.

Please note the High Score leaderboard will reset upon official release.

Question for the community:
If an update comes out and the balance changes so that new players have less ability to generate higher scores than old high scores, should we create a new leaderboard for that version of the game?

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .87

With this version I've added steam leader board support.
Because of this, save files will now be encrypted. If there are any issues related to the new encryption of saved games please report this on the forums. I'm especially interested in non - US language based computers and if there are any bugs related to that.

New Version Uploaded + Mac version + Linux tests!: Early Access .85

Yesterday an update was pushed out that that has 2 small fixes as well as adds support for Mac computers!

Changes:
-Remove fade transitions between rooms.
-Altered various text displayed in game.
-Add Mac support

In addition, early Linux support is in the works. If you have Linux you should be able to download a version through steam. I've had some issues getting this to work properly on Ubuntu. If you have Linux and want to give it a test, please let me know your results.

Hi Everyone,

Here is a new patch uploaded that fixes a few bugs.
-Fix space mines not obeying game volume
-Fix space mines remaining alive after mini game ends
-Intel can now be found as a reward for certain missions
-Fix fuel extraction achievement
-Fix end game achievement

At this point I'm still collecting feedback and bug reports but ultimately I'd like to start wrapping the 1.0 version up and get ready for a release. I think we'd be looking at April or early May for an official release.

Up until now I have not been making mac or linux builds as they take time to make and it felt better to spend time on the game. So, I think soon I'll start posting builds for mac and linux!

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .8

Hi Everyone,
As we inch toward a final release, I've added a bunch of changes that are aimed at balance, refinement, and polish. One of the bigger points is to bring focus away from the mini games and more into the management side of things.

In all honesty I find that this release is a bit easy for myself to play through (on medium) but since I am so intimate with the game, I dont think thats a bad thing. I would like to hear feedback from others on how difficult the game is for them, especially those that havent played much or at all.

Modifications/Additions:
-Increase wormhole study reward
-Add confirmations to passenger event choices
-fix being able to order soup without having enough credits
-fix travel times during hyperspace
-New UI for purchasing intel.
-Add UI for viewing intel in various places such as store screen, trading, nav, etc..
-SPACE: projectiles colliding will now always destroy each other.
-New Event find robot floating in space.
-fix pirate blockades appearing on planets with no stores.
-fix repeating FPS mini game types
-NEW Background art for various sections of the ship.
-Fix FPS robots not having correct health causing them all to be destroyed with 2 shots. Now different robots will correctly survive different amounts of hits.
-Add melee weapon for the security officer in FPS
-SPACE, increase enemy count during mini games.
-Various small UI fixes.

Whats next?
Id like to keep adjusting the balance based on feedback and polishing the game up. At this point Im looking at an April launch, I think. No promises.

There are some art alterations/additions that are included since they were in progress. There are new backgrounds for certain bridge views. I do not have the art for all views yet, but that should be done soon.

Early Access Report

Greetings all!

Last week was extremely busy at my "day job" and so I barely worked on the game. This week is also proving to be more busy than usual. My goal is to have a new patch ready with new balancing and bug fixes by sometime next week.

At that point I'll take another look at how things feel and decide on if a launch in March is likely. I think at this point it is more looking like April for a possible official launch.

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .77

This is a bit rushed release to fix some game breaking bugs that popped up.

-fix bug causing low probability game is beatable in given time (increased available time by 100 days)
-fix blockade negotiated discount not being applied
-lower amount of items passengers can steal or win from crew in card games
-fix out of time text error message for some instances
-add medkits have small chance to heal sickness
-passengers much less likely to be infected by crew illness. (Still plan to integrate some more modifications to infections spreading to be more fair).

In addition since I was already working on some balance changes these will be included. The biggest one being a drastic reduction in the use of FPS/Space jobs at planets. This should help focus the game on keeping moving and analyzing the numbers and mechanics vs trying to play a lot of mini games.

This update focuses on a few minor balancing changes as well as adding achievements.

-Passengers apprehended will now have a chance at getting reward when turned in.

-Lowered crew damage during hyperspace travel

-Alt-Tabbing should now work and relinquish the mouse

-Allow more comms if you wait a certain amount of days up to 2 FPS or Space missions per planet visit. Waiting is a last resort as typically you'd best be served moving on instead of wasting days.

-Adjustments to home screen menu

-Added Achievements

-Note that I am still trying to fix the steam overlay bug.

The next update will address any bugs related to these changes and also I'll be doing more general game balancing based on some feedback and my own play through that I didn't get to in this update.

Early Access Report

Happy New Year Everyone!

Thought I'd give a little heads up on what I'm working on now that the holiday is over. Mainly it is some stat balancing based on feedback as well as some bug fixes. No new events or content additions.

One other big thing is the integration with the Steam API to set the stage for Achievements as well as fix the newly reported Steam Overlay Bug. In addition I'll be working on polishing the home menu screen by giving it some background sound and a little animation with the logo at the suggestion of Olowokandi.

My current goal is to move toward an early March 1.0 release. But that could change based on further feedback and final testing.

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .7

Hello everyone,
Here is another update for you which changes some things players may have gotten used to as well as a few new features! Some changes include how crew health is handled and sickness. Sickness wasnt much of an issue before and so now it because something that the player must proactively deal with.

In my tests some of my changes seemed a little too difficult and so Ive dialed them down. Please leave your feedback on this update so that I can appropriately balance the changes based on a larger player base.

Another change is balancing so that players can more easily play the game and avoid the FPS/Space mini games if they want. This helps create more choice of play style.

Please also note that the branding cover image and icon of the game has now changed to a graphic that more appropriately represents the game play.

-FPS health kit heals less
-FPS health kit shows actual amount healed
-Allow high scores for failed run. Includes note and marking of failed run.
-Fix bug with Artifact collector not giving upgrade for 2 artifacts
-Kidnapped crew receives less damage
-New feature. Intel can be purchased from alien communications. This will reveal store prices at future planets. The intel can be then viewed from the nav planet info screen.
-New Event. Space debris collecting. You are hired to collect floating debris in space. There is a time limit on claims and so you need to do it quickly to get your reward.
-New Event. Planet 21 cloud diving.
-New Event. Rescue disabled ship caught in planets gravity.

Early Access Status Report

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all so much for your responses and suggestions. It has really helped shape the game we have now!

The last update was rather large but this next update is shaping up to be even larger in the sense of how it alters certain aspects of the game. The idea of this coming update is to make the game have higher stakes. One of the things that is memorable about games like Oregon Trail or the original Wasteland is that it is easy and painful to lose a party member. In Hyperspace Delivery Service, it has become a bit too easy to never lose a crew member. So, I am re-balancing a bit on how the crew health is managed. It won't be unfair but it will take some consideration to keep everyone alive and well!

Another aspect of the game getting a little re-balancing is the economy. Currently you end up doing a lot of mini game jobs to bring in income. And the issue there is that the mini games become too much at the forefront of game-play. So I am re-balancing a bit so that there is more opportunity and ability to shape your income based on strategy instead of mini games. For instance there will be a new feature allowing you to purchase intel which shows you the prices of supplies at different planets. This allows you to plan ahead and take advantage of price differences.

All of these changes will really make it so you have choices on your play style.

I hope to have this update ready before the weekend. No promises though.

New Version Uploaded: Early Access .5

Thank you to all the amazing feedback. I've incorporated much of it but there is still some that did not make it into this patch. That doesn't mean I'm not working on those requests/submissions though!

-fix shield graphic not turning off if you end a level right when you get hit and the shield turns on.

-5 new alien talking heads

-Fix FPS possible level generation glitch where key is unreachable or extra room is unreachable

-Extra buttons added to bridge to show names over characters along with limited stats.

-permadeath option added

-Space bars added. Certain planets now have bars you can visit for full stamina regeneration. Bars are accessed through the crew rest screen. The navigation screen will reveal planets that have bars.

-FPS health pickup number fixed. Now will account for crew mods. However, I realized it is still showing the max possible amount that health pack will heal instead of the amount it actually healed. Will fix in next update!

-balance crew health lost from hyperspace radiation while in hyperspace.

-Added new art to certain events

-9 NEW EVENTS! I wont go into detail on each as Ill let the player discover them but here is a listsome are elaborate while some are small. Some show up randomly while others are specific to certain planets. Here they are:
kleltak match event, parts delivery event, FPS crew abduction event, Artifact collector event, void space event, planetary tours event, galactic games event, worm hole study event, phased ship event

Whats coming next? At this point I want to start tightening up what is here instead of continually expanding. However, there are a few events on my list that could probably be good to add. The other thing Id really like to see is 1 more game variant for space missions and FPS each. Beyond that, I want to add Achievements.

Weekly Early Access Report

I wanted to give a quick update on the status of the next update.

There will be no update this week as I feel like it would be a much better update if it came out with all the events/additions from the current group I'm working on instead of just a few of them.

Hopefully I'll have this ready for later next week though. There are a bunch of events and tweaks that I hope you'll enjoy!

Early Access Report

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to give a quick update on the status of the game!

I was still trying to keep to the weekly updates but due to the American holiday this week I don't believe I'll get an update out. So i'll aim to get one out by the end of next week.

What is in store for the next update?

-MORE talking alien talking heads!

-5 new unique events. One of them is a crew abduction event where you must go in FPS mode to rescue your crew member. Or just leave them! Another involves searching a mysterious area of space with a unique music track! I'll reveal others in the patch notes.

-Crew info while on bridge view

-alien bars (used for resting)

-other small bug fixes

-Hopefully some more event art will come in and I can implement that.

-possibly more depending on time.

New Version Uploaded: Early Acces .42

Here is a very small update that fixes a few bugs! I wasn't expecting to get this update out as I'm working on some content that was tricky to put aside. But I figured it out and was able to get the bug fixes out and not have the unfinished content make it into the patch.

-Potential fix for FPS robots reverting to the wrong animation after being destroyed.

-Fix for soup event not working if you haven't visited the regular store yet

-Add 5 new alien talking heads

-Add crew positions to med bay buttons.

New Version Uploaded: Early Acces .4

Thanks to amazing feedback by users GameDragonZero and Olowokandi I decided to concentrate on addressing some of their concerns/requests.

I didn't get to ALL of them, but I was able to get to a portion of them and also a bunch of other additions/fixes from my own list. This means there is not as many new events as I was hoping to add to this patch and so those new events will be pushed into the next patch. If your looking for new events content, you should wait until the next patch to play!

Patch Notes:

-12 new bridge character sprites! This means I had to change the character system and so your sprites chosen for previous saves will be reset to defaults.

-Soup vendor on planet 15. Please note this is missing artwork and will have that in the next patch or patch after depending on when I get the art in.

-New FPS Ai character. Spiderbot.

-New FPS Ai character. Probebot.

-Fix crew members getting sick if already sick from passengers.

-6 new alien talking heads

-Fix to force stats to come back on after events during hyperspace travel.

-Fix communication rewards different on loading. (Was not saving game after rewards set, now save after rewards are set).

-Remove decimals on some stats. Still a lot have decimals but will slowly remove some as time allows.

-FPS fix for possibility of red key card being behind locked door.

-When selecting crew for ground mission, now auto select the "next" button for joystick/keyboard control.

-FPS add percentage readout to health

-Fix for repeated beacons.

-Fix store title alignment on some resolutions forcing the word Max to move down to next line.

-Missile lock will now work on farther out objects.

-Show distance to locked target indicator

-Seek assistance (from supply screen) is now more generous and costs fewer total days.

-Fuel extraction added to supplies. Will allow you to extract fuel from the local star. This is fairly dangerous. Having an engineer will help. Takes 2 days. Uses standard oxy/food. Decreases stamina more due to stress.

-Slight increase in chance at finding artifacts

-Added come back mechanic. If low enough on supplies will get a communication from a hyperspace barrier surfer. It's extremely dangerous but will give you a lot of supplies. (NOTE This is work in progress. For now includes space fight at end but would like to include an FPS fight as well).

-Added one additional crew member. This crew member doesn't have any special abilities.

-Show crew sprite when selecting crew for FPS missions.

-New 3D model for mines.

-Increase possible reward for Comm officer in FPS games.

-Lower damage taken by non-security officers in FPS.

-1 new music track for FPS segments

-1 new planet arrival scene with music. Planet 6.

Please note that most planets with arrival scenes will be getting unique events.

Weekly Early Access Report

I want to thank everyone so much for their support and reporting bugs and suggestions. It's really great and is helping out the game a ton!

There won't be any patches this week unless I find a quick fix to certain bugs but it's looking like late next week will be the next patch.

Beyond fixing new bugs and still working on unfixed bugs I'm also adding:
-one more arrival scene with music,
-at least 2 unique planet events. An example of one is being able to purchase a special soup from a certain planet that heals health and stamina.
-1 new FPS enemy type.


That is what's in store for the next patch but beyond that here is a preview of what's coming:

-6 planned unique planet events
-more CYOA events during travel
-2 new FPS game types
-2 more FPS enemy types
-at least 2 more music tracks (1 for FPS and 1 for space combat).
-2 new space enemy types
-more balancing
-more bug fixing
-and more!

I'm hoping that as the new patches come out the bugs will become less and less and I can fully concentrate on finishing balancing the game and adding the remaining content.

Questions for the community:
-How important are achievements to you?
-Would you be interested in perma-death for hard mode?

New Version Uploaded: Early Acces 038

A lot of bug fixes. Some new events. A new arrival scene with music. A lot more than I anticipated!

-Add clarification text for ship radiation damage that is atomically taken during hyperspace. This damage is more when pace and coolant ratio are set to higher levels.

-fix power distribution button if pressed rapidly during approaching ship cut scene causes freeze.

-if ram into other ships will now cause damage

-Supply ship is balanced so that you cannot sell to it to make large profits and the cost of items is lowered.

-Fix special missions triggering a second time if going backwards to previous planet.

-NEW FPS mode. Radiation containment.

-Fix ramming space tears now will properly take you directly to next planet

-Lower cost of missiles

-Remove random insta-deaths. If health is high enough, will take extreme injury otherwise will go into a medical stasis chamber and can only be revived by a robot doctor at space stations for a cost.

-Add % readout to health stats during hyperspace

-Minefield trap event now shows density level on help screen

-Passenger causes damage causing ship to gain health...possibly fixed by more frequent display updates. Before it was possible that it looked like health was gained but it was just the timing of the status update. I THINK.

-Fix for seeing same beacons over and over.

-NEW CYOA event encounter alien ship event.

-Add text showing personal shield is recharging in FPS if science officer chosen

-Fix bug that caused stamina and health to increase during jobs, scanning, oxygen extraction, etc. Stamina and Health should now be more difficult to maintain.

-Balance ground bonus rewards.

-Fix for blockade not lifting.

-Fix for crew member injured during oxygen extraction not being injured

-Increase ship damage from CYOA bombs and other CYOA events.

-Health rewards balancing. Health kit heal amount lowered. Health kit cost increased.

-Disease should be more frequent and more dangerous now.

-Balance CYOA science vessel rewards.

-Updated asteroid 3D models to new models.

-Show % readout of health/stamina in crew screen and med bay screen.

-NEW planet arrival scene with music. Planet Phion

-Remove additional bonus rewards in FPS mode since the new crew member choices give bonuses.
